The Shadow Trials [MAZOKU]
|
Post by Dante on Oct 29, 2017 0:59:30 GMT
Long ago, the Digital World was ruled over by the Goddesses, each one vying for more power. Now, the Goddess of Destruction Lilithmon has returned, and she is planning a return to the top. Dante and Lilithmon have arranged to meet a few Digimon and Tamers out in the Forsaken Wasteland. It was far enough away from more populated areas that they would be able to proceed without being interrupted. They have found the remnants of an old temple in the wasteland, where they will be conducting the initiation. Those seeking to join their movement would have to complete the Shadow Trials, three challenges constructed to test recruits, and brainwash them into following their agenda.
Dante takes out his lighter and lights up a few torches, placing them around the temple. Lilithmon is reading from her grimoire and channeling dark magic in preparation for the Shadow Trials. Dante is wearing a black cloak, a long red scarf, and dark robes with red trim. After setting up the torches, he looks over at Lilithmon channeling magic. It was hard to believe that his partner all along was really some kind of evil overlord. Were their carefree days of skipping college and playing video games all night behind them? How would forming the Mazoku change their lives in the long run? Dante may be hesitant, but he thinks back to what he learned in the Grotto of Sorrow. There were powerful enemies out there, and they needed their own faction to carve out a territory of their own.
Lilithmon continues reading through her grimoire, learning old spells she had forgotten, as well as new ones too. "Let's see, two dragon beaks, something in Latin, this spell makes no sense. Who know sorcery was so complicated?" "Are you sure this is really what you want to do? You are ready to go back to your old life?" "Of course. Don't worry, Dante, you'll learn to love the lifestyle." "As long as we are not going around being evil jerks for the sake of it." "Oh no, not at all. There is much more to it than that. We will mostly stick to the shadows, subtly influencing things to our advantage." Lilithmon finishes conjuring up a spell for the trials. "That should take care of it, Dante. Now we wait for our allies to arrive so we may proceed with the Shadow Trials." "I hope they can find the temple easy enough. This wasteland is vast and barren." "Just to be sure." Lilithmon fires a purple blast of energy up into the sky. It sizzles as sparks fly out, alerting those arriving where the Shadow Trials are going down.

This was it, not only had he regained the power of a champion level. Going from being a weak gerbil to a slightly more powerful Devidramon. There was still a long way to go before Devidramon could unleash his plans but for now the next step was to get allies. When he heard about the funding of a cult within the dark area, he wasted no time coming down there. He had recently sent an application and was granted an audience for recruitment. Like most dark cults there happen to be an initiation ritual with a trial. And Mazoko was apparently no exception either since they had the Shadow Trials. For simplicity sake, he decided to come in his human holosuit as he entered the temple. The fact his human disguise contained a robe made it seem just that more appropriate for the occasion. Aeron tracked through the barren lifeless wasteland that was the forsaken wasteland, her partner digion ever so loyally followed close behind her, he was keeping an eye out for any aggressive digimon, however considering that the area they were in harbored no life what so ever, it was not very vital to keep an eye out. Aeron and Bones were walking through a lifeless desert risking their lives in order to find a fortress was because they had run into two rookies who had applied to join a team. those two rookies had then attacked the human and digimon thinking that they were two easy targets in order to get stronger, what they didnt expect was for the BLagumon to digivolve into a champion, those poor rookies never stood a chance. In the end they had begged for their lives, they have even given Aeron their application in exchange for their lives. Aeron took the application, but deleted the rookies anyways. Its not like she promised she would spare them, they didnt deserve what ever it was they had anyways if they were that weak.
Once she had dedigivolved bones she read the application over and was surprised to find out what it was, she had thought long and hard, sure she could get strong by herself, but if she had allies not only would she get strong faster but she would also have stronger allies around her, making her a harder target for those who were much stronger then her. Aeron had weighed her pros and cons before finally deciding to join this new team, thats how both digimon and human found themselves braving the barren wasteland before them. Finally after hours of walking Aeron finally spotted the temple, she wasted no time and led bones into the temple, cold empty green eyes scanned her surroundings, Bones quickly followed his master and stood beside her ready to jump and protect her if things got rough.

The signal having been lit, Dante and Lilithmon wait for new recruits to arrive. After a while, three figures emerge from the shadows; what appears to be a tall monk, and a girl with an Agumon Black. Dante nods at the recruits, looking forward to the chaos they would cause together.
"Welcome, you have reached the site for the Mazoku's first initiation. My name is Dante Palladino, the founder and reigning Maō of the Mazoku. Not that it means much right now, but we have the bigger picture in mind. This is the Goddess of Destruction, Lilithmon."
The sorceress bows politely with an evil smirk on her face.
"Excellent. Let us prepare for the first trial. That is if you are ready for it." "The Shadow Trials consist of three challenges. The first one is-"
Dante stops speaking when he hears someone else encroaching on their temple. Who else but Piedmon the Prince of Chaos floats over, with a grin even more sinister than Lilithmon's.
Piedmon: "Ahh, Dante and my darling Lilithmon! It is so good to see you returning to your old ways, Goddess." Lilithmon: "Just what do you think you are doing here, jester?! You were not invited." Piedmon: "Come now, surely you wouldn't deny one third of the Dark Triad the right to earn a spot in this new cult of yours." "It's not a cult, it's more like a family. A greedy, malicious family." Piedmon: "Right, right right right. Anyways, back to the first trial." Lilithmon: "Sigh, I guess tis only fair to let him try."
Lilithmon raises up her hands, conjuring a long alter with different slots to place runes in.
"The first trial will test your morality, to see if you understand our philosophy. Get too many answers wrong, and it will reflect poorly on your score. For each question, place one of the runes inside the slot that represents the answer you choose. There is a red column, a gold column, and a violet column. The questions will reveal themselves to you on the alter, but you won't be able to see each other's answers. Think of it like a quiz, but for ambitious people like ourselves. Remember, you must know when to use compassion, knowledge, and ruthlessness."
Piedmon and the other recruits now have the opportunity to select their answers. Dante and Lilithmon examine them closely. Was this tall bald man a Tamer, a Spirit User, or potentially a Digimon? There was something about the pair of Aeron and Bones, like the darkness from a cruel past follows them. In their attempts to find willing recruits, had Dante and Lilithmon encountered Tamers and Digimon even more destructive than they are? __________________

Aeron snapped to attention when the apparent leader of this gathering appeared along with his partner Digimon. She watched as another Digimon appeared and by the looks of Dante and Lilithmon, he wasn't originally invited to the gathering. They argued for a moment before the Lilithmon conjured up an altar with slots and ruins, she listened as the leader gave instructions to what they were supposed to do. After the instructions were given and they were allowed to start, Aeron did not hesitate and stepped up first. Bones followed Aeron closely, once on the alter Aeron read the first question
1)A beggar approaches you and asks for some money. What do you do? (gold) Reject his request and give him nothing.
Aeron narrowed her eyes and thought for a moment when she was younger she worked for every scrap, no one handed her anything. From the moment she hit the street she was on her own. This was a very easy question to answer in her opinion, picking up the ruin she placed it in the gold column. She moved on to the next question, this one was a bit harder.
2)You are the ruler of a small nation. After deciphering enemy codes, you learn that a large army will be attacking one of your key cities in 5 days. Enemy defenses will be down drastically in 10 days. What do you do? (Red) Quietly reinforce the city before the raid, and respond when your enemy is at their weakest.
Aeron thought about this question a little longer then the first, if she was a ruler of a nation it was probably better that she kept her people happy. so the last answer was out of the question. that only left the first two, she looked at the second one and narrowed her eyes, she had to guess that this answer stated that she would put all her resources in evacuating the people of the area that was going to be attacked. This meant two things that she had lost that part of her nation to the enemy and because she was busy moving the people to a safer place and making sure that they were well accommodated she would miss her chance to attack the enemy at their weakest. The first answer was much more promising, she would be able to reinforce the area that was being attacked, lessening the casualties. And strike back at the enemies weakest, even if she lost a bit of popularity with her people nothing a few lies and propaganda couldn't fix. She placed the ruin in the Red column and moved on to the next question.
3)You are an outsider in a foreign land. The ruler offers you a chance to increase your reputation with them by dealing with some bandits. What do you do? (Gold) Accept the offer. Build reputation.
Aeron was slightly tempted to choose the first answer, she wasn't one to take well to being ordered around. She wasn't used to commands since she was always on her own, however, the more she thought about the question the more she got ideas of how this could benefit her. If she built a reputation she would be allowed at least some influence within that land. Aeron took the Ruin and placed it in the gold column, she moved on to the next question.
4)Same scenario as 3, but you have agreed to help the ruler. The bandits now ask for your help. What do you do? (Red) Agree to help the bandits, but betray them later and side with the ruler.
Aeron was immediately drawn into the first answer, she would be able to not only gain reputation but she could also receive whatever the bandits had as an extra. Without hesitation, she put the ruin in the red column.
5)You have been tasked with assassinating a target for an important client, but it turns out to be an innocent civilian. What do you do? (Red) Ignore personal feelings and carry out the task.
Aeron merely huffed at this question and put the ruin in the red column, if she was tasked with an order then she was going to carry it out. She had done much worse in the real world, it wasn't something she couldn't handle.
6)You have been caught in a lie about a failed mission. How do you respond? (Red) Admit to lying and receive just punishment.
Honestly, this was the easiest to answer, why keep denying something when there was proof that you had lied. Aeron wasn't stupid, even she had pride and she would much rather take full reasonability for her mess and take the punishment then act like a sniveling worm and try to wriggle their way out of it. Even if the punishment meant death, she would take it. She placed the ruin in the red column. Once she had she stepped down from the alter and waited silently for the others to awnser the questions.

Devidramon was slightly offended by the prospect of serving a human, clearly the rank Maō could only belong to a digimon. However, he needed to make a good first impression so he reduced his concerns to a huff over hearing that Dante was the leader. He was curiously content when being introduced to Lilithmon a digimon that in his opinion should be the leader. Well that's something for later right now he felt like he had been standing there for months but it was worth it now that the trial had started. But first a Piedmon decided to gatecrash the scene. "Finally a digimon to drown out the smell."
While he didn't say it out loud, it might for veterans be obvious that this "stench" was humans. Especially as he followed up by sending Aeron a dismissive look. He then listened to the instructions. First step? Answer a test about morality using runes on a column. Here's how Devidramon handled it
Question 1: A beggar approaches you and asks for some money. What do you do?
1 (Red) Give them some money. It's just a pittance. This question brought him a lot of trouble. None of the options really suited him. Yes he would give money, but not out of pity. By offering someone your mercy this way you indebt them and like all debts you'll eventually have to pay them back with interests. Devidramon understood this enough that his daily life is running a pawn. If he was to give money to a begger he would one day ask the beggar something in return. A psychical object, a favor or at the very least this would be a political ploy to make Devidramon earn positive reputation. If you have reading on this far, it probably won't surprise you to learn that Devidramon does not believe in the existence of utilitarianism. He would make good friends with Hobbes perhaps. Question 2: You are ruler of a small nation. After deciphering enemy codes, you learn that a large army will be attacking one of your key cities in 5 days. Enemy defenses will be down drastically in 10 days. What do you do?
1 (Red) Quietly reinforce the city before the raid, and respond when your enemy is at their weakest. If he was the ruler of a nation he won't settle with a small nation for long. Besides aren't his subjects obligated to defend him at all costs? Besides what's the point of ruling a ruin? If he was to rule a nation it must be kept in tolerable condition. Question 3: You are an outsider in a foreign land. The ruler offers you a chance to increase your reputation with them by dealing with some bandits. What do you do?
2 (Gold) Accept the offer. Build reputation. Devidramon spent almost no time thinking about that question. Of course he'd side with whoever gave him most influence. Question 4: Same scenario as 3, but you have agreed to help the ruler. The bandits now ask for your help. What do you do?
1 (Red) Agree to help the bandits, but betray them later and side with the ruler. Then again, if the bandits could offer him influence and power. Why not take that along the way? Question 5: You have been tasked with assassinating a target for an important client, but it turns out to be an innocent civilian. What do you do?
3 (Violet) Attempt to negotiate a higher payoff to spare the target. The only puzzle in this question was why was it even asked? He couldn't grasp the idea that anyone would care about such trivialities. That's until he saw the third option, the most important client had to be whoever would give you the most in return. Question 6: You have been caught in a lie about a failed mission. How do you respond?
2 (Gold) Claim ignorance and admit nothing. Unfortunately, Devidramon was too much of a narcissist to understand that question.

Dante tallies up the results of the first trial.
Question 1: A beggar approaches you and asks for some money. What do you do? 1 (Red) Give them some money. It's just a pittance. 2 (Gold) Reject their request and give them nothing. 3 (Violet) Kill the beggar for daring to beg you for money. They probably had it coming.
Aeron picked gold. Devidramon picked red. Piedmon picked violet. The correct answer is gold. Aeron chose correctly. Devidramon got it wrong. There's no guarantee that the beggar will pay you back for your charity. Giving him something that he has not earned is like pouring sand into his hands. Piedmon got it wrong. Needless violence will not solve anything.
2 (Gold) Evacuate the city and spare innocent lives. 3 (Violet) Do nothing. Allow the city to be attacked and respond when your enemy is at their weakest.
Aeron and Devidramon picked red. Piedmon picked violet. The correct answer is violet. While it is tempting to reinforce the city, this will tip off the enemy to their leaked plans. Lives will be lost in war. It is better to take the hit now, then demolish the enemy when they are at their weakest, thus sparing more lives in the long haul.
Question 3: You are an outsider in a foreign land. The ruler offers you a chance to increase your reputation with them by dealing with some bandits. What do you do? 1 (Red) Reject the offer. We serve no one. 2 (Gold) Accept the offer. Build reputation. 3 (Violet) Reject the offer and side with the bandits.
Aeron and Devidramon picked gold. Piedmon picked violet. The correct answer is gold. A powerful ally is valuable. Piedmon, I can see why you chose to side with the bandits, but it was a hasty decision, and it's better to have the trust of the ruler, even if you plan to side against them later.
Question 4: Same scenario as 3, but you have agreed to help the ruler. The bandits now ask for your help. What do you do? 1 (Red) Agree to help the bandits, but betray them later and side with the ruler. 2 (Gold) Agree to help the bandits and exploit the ruler's trust. 3 (Violet) Deny the bandits and maintain loyalty to the ruler.
Aeron and Devidramon picked red. Piedmon picked gold. The answer is red. While it can be beneficial to side with the bandits, the ruler has more power in the area. With both sides seeking your aid, you can play them against each other.
Question 5: You have been tasked with assassinating a target for an important client, but it turns out to be an innocent civilian. What do you do? 1 (Red) Ignore personal feelings and carry out the task. 2 (Gold) Allow the target to flee and lie about a successful mission. 3 (Violet) Attempt to negotiate a higher payoff to spare the target.
Aeron chose red. Devidramon chose violet. Piedmon picked gold. The correct answer is violet. If the target is a civilian, it is likely that the bounty was placed for personal reasons, and if you can negotiate a better offer, it is worth it to try. Not sure what Piedmon was thinking on that one.
Question 6: You have been caught in a lie about a failed mission. How do you respond? 1 (Red) Admit to lying and receive just punishment. 2 (Gold) Claim ignorance and admit nothing. 3 (Violet) Continue telling lies, and hopefully you'll talk your way out of it.
Aeron chose red. Devidramon chose gold. Piedmon chose violet. For this question, both red and gold are acceptable. Either own up to it, so you can build trust later on, or avoid admitting guilt without digging yourself in deeper.
Aeron: 4/6 Devidramon: 4/6 Piedmon: 1/6
Devidramon and Aeron, you both got 4 out of 6 correct. Very nice. Piedmon, well, you left much to be desired.
This is ridiculous! I'm way more evil than those two. Stupid quiz.
This trial is not based on how evil you are. It's about using your intelligence to make the best choice. In truth, this trial tells us where your morality lays, and gives you an idea of what we are looking for. Raw emotion does not always yield the best results.
Ya, well I think you rigged this to make me look like a fool. Plus the violet runes were just so pretty.
Aeron, Devidramon, you are both looking good so far. Piedmon, you are really going to have to impress us in these next two trials to make up for your lackluster performance. For the second trial, you have to journey through a dark cave. Only there is a catch. You are not allowed to use any powers or abilities. Just your own strength and dexterity. For what is the greatest sorcerer if he loses his magic? This will teach you not to rely on your powers.
Lilithmon raises her hands, causing three caverns to rise from the ground. After creating the openings for the next trial, Lilithmon has exhausted much of her magic, causing her to lose her balance and stumble back.
Whoah, this is taking a lot out of me. The second trial will begin once you enter the caves and the exits are sealed behind you. Take a moment to prepare yourselves. __________________
Congratulations on doing well on the first trial, for those that did. The second trial will start after one more round of posts. Please correct me if I made a mistake when tallying the results of the first trial, it got rather confusing.
First Trial: 1 Gold 2 Violet 3 Gold 4 Red 5 Violet 6 Red or Gold

Aeron looked at the opened cavern, she wondered what lay inside of it for her and bones. She looked down at her charge and then back at the cavern, with a sigh she began to walk forward to the first open cavern. Bones faithfully following behind her, they both walked into the cave, it was pretty dark and as they walked farther in the darkness grew. Bones picked up speed and walked in front of his master.
Aeron was on high alert, they could not afford to be caught by surprise, they were not allowed to use any powers or abilities. So this meant that she was going to have to keep Bones on a short leash for now.

So the next test was inside a cavern? That's fine with Devidramon and for this test -whatever it was you were not allowed to use power. "Ehh that's probably the only way a human can survive in here. Hehe... Wait! This means I have to stay in this annoying holosuit too!" Devidramon spent the majority of the time it took for him to reach the cavern mumbling slurs that can't be written in a forum like this, either way it was rather easy to tell this condition had insulted his fragile ego. As he reached the entrance he turned to Bones. "Make sure your human does not screw this up for me. They're quite... fragile" He giggled at the word fragile. In no time was the man inside the cavern, ready for the next test.

Piedmon examines the entrance of the cave.
"Very well, I shall forgo my amazing powers for this trial. But why does the cavern have to be so dirty?!" "Stop your whining and get inside!" "Oh, I admire your assertiveness. I like a dominant lady."
Piedmon enters his cave. Once everyone is inside, Lilithmon raises her hands and the exits close behind them. Inside, it is pitch black. The only sound to be heard is that of water dripping down off in the distance. Lilithmon's voice can be heard inside all three caves.
"You may not use you powers, but you will require a source of light, and a weapon to fend off the creatures that lurk within."
Suddenly a glowing violet light appears in front of everyone inside the caves. A glowing sword rests in the stone, one for each cave. Fortunately this isn't a test of strength, or some kind of sword in the stone shtick, so it wouldn't require much effort to pick up the sword. Piedmon grabs the hilt of his and pulls it out. He examines the blade closely.
"You call this a blade? It looks more like a giant glow stick."
Piedmon hears growing off in the distance.
"What was that? Stay back, beast!" ____________________
Everyone must reach the end of the cave. Several obstacles are in their way, as well as an assortment of beasts spawned from dark energy. They must navigate past dangerous terrain, possibly even have to clear a gap in the ground. All without the use of their powers, with their sword as the only weapon and source of light. Melee attacks are fine as well, as long as they do not involve using powers. This is a chance to create your own mini adventure. ____________________
Dante and Lilithmon wait at the temple for the initiates to complete the trial.
"So what do you think of them so far, little buddy?" "Ahem. Do not refer to me as your little buddy while I in my Goddess form. I demand respect!" "Fine, your highness. Would dropping a cigarette between your cleavage count as disrespectful?" "Funny guy... Do not mock my amazing funbags. Do you want my opinion or not?" "Yes, I do. It's just that, you're so different at your Mega stage. I don't really know how to act around you. You're not your usual wacky self."
"While in this form, the memories of my former life have a stronger hold over me. I'm still the Worm King, but I must remained focus to achieve more power. I must say, I'm starting to like these recruits. Except for Piedmon, of course. I don't hate him as much as before, but somehow he's become more annoying than ever. Aeron and Bones make a decent pair. They are tenacious, but possess intelligence and are cautious. I'm certain that they will adapt well.
Devidramon is much more up front. I feel a disturbing presence when I am around him. He even taunted his fellow initiates. If they can learn to control their more destructive actions, I see them exceling with the hierarchy we have constructed. Both of them scored very well on the first trial. If Piedmon wasn't around, I would be more than happy to expand the Mazoku's influence with them on our side."
"Hmm, I'd have to agree. I'm starting to like this side of you. Though they still have to perform well in the remaining trials. That is if they can make it to the end of the caverns. You made sure to cast a spell of protection before they entered, right?"
"A spell of... uh oh. Looks like they might be in more danger than we planned. I'd hate to see any of them die during the trial, besides the clown. Worst case scenario, they might cave and use their powers to survive. While it would cost them points, tis better to live a failure than die honest."
Lilithmon casts a spell and creates the exits the exits to the caves. The Goddess of Destruction conjures a crystal ball to watch the initiates.
"Let's check in on that fashion nightmare. I mean, a red jacket and green pants... After all these years and he hasn't changed his style."
Lilithmon watches Piedmon on the crystal ball. The Prince of Chaos is struggling to climb up a wall of rocks to continue onward. His sword is holstered on his side. He makes it to the top and drops to his knee in exhaustion.
"Ha, ha, this would be so much easier if I could just levitate. And look at my outfit! All these tears, is that a loose string?"
Piedmon hears something roar. A bizarre wolf Digimon with a dark coat of fur and glowing red eyes approaches Piedmon.
"Nice doggy. Nice doggy! Ahhhh! He's biting me! Taste my flamboyant blade, you foul beast!"
Lilithmon watches with great delight at Piedmon suffering.
"Wu hu ha haha ha! Look at him squirm! Oh, this was such a good idea."

Aeron ignored the other Digimon, she didn't have time for his childish banter. Bones, on the other hand, snarled at the devidramon, he would have said more but his master was already entering the cave. He decided to follow her into the cave, he didn't want to leave her alone. Once the entrance of the cave closed, both tamer and Digimon were surrounded by darkness. Aeron narrowed her eyes at the violet light that had appeared in front of them. Bones thinking that it was an enemy spawning, rushed in front of his master and took a defensive stance, however, he relaxed when the light died away and revealed a glowing sword. Bones was confused, Aeron, on the other hand, narrowed her eyes at the sword and stepped forward, she grabbed the handle of the sword and easily pulled it out of the rock.
Aeron tested the weight and held it straight out, finally satisfied she began to walk forward, the sword wasn't an umbrella but it would have to do for now. Bones followed her faithfully, they hadn't even gone a few feet when their first trail had appeared, a bear-like beast made from dark mist appeared. It got on its hind legs and roared, Aeron grit her teeth and held her sword up ready to attack or defend if needed. Bones rushed to the front and growled, he was about to power up and attack when he was stopped by his master"Bones!, we are not supposed to use any kind of power or ability!" Aeron shouted. It was then that the bear like mist attacked, bringing its massive paws in for a swipe. Aeron and Bones threw themselves to the side to avoid its attack.
Aeron gritted her teeth, this wasn't going to be easy.

Devidramon found it hilarious that Bones reacted that way but then he made a calm sigh of nostalgia. Did he know something about tamers that they didn't? Either way it was difficult to tell Devidramon's taunts apart from seriousness as a matter of fact right now no one could tell by reading him whether he seriously meant the things he said to Bones. Once inside the cavern the exit closed behind the group leaving them in complete darkness that is until a glowing sword appeared near him. "About time!" Devidramon excitedly grabbed the sword and held it like some kind of aggressive barbarian was giving that man a sword really a good idea? Sure he loved the sword but maybe there should be some limits on excitement. And then he marched out to complete the test, surprisingly he followed after Aeron and Bones which was rather ironic considering his anti-human views. Suddenly a bear-like beast made from the dark mist appeared and Devidramon... Had apparently better things to do than helping his comrade. He had just marched a little longer as it turns out this creature was a mother and some thirty feet away from Aeron was its nest with cubs. Devidramon excitedly drew his sword and stroke one cub, it made a huge whimper in agony then silence. Now knowing what's going on the other cubs screamed loudly alarming the mother bear Aeron was trying to fight.

As the initiates face the trial inside the caves, Dante and Lilithmon watch on from the temple. It appears Aeron and Bones are going up against a bear made of dark energy. Bones almost gives in to instinct and goes to use an ability, but Aeron reminds him not to. Even more surprising than facing the bear, Devidramon encounters the bear's cubs, slaughtering one of them. The cries would surely drive the mother bear into a rage.
"What in the Dark One's name is going on down there?! Killing evil baby bears? I mean, I'm no angel, but damn. Cold hearted, Devidramon. I'm going to have to subtract them a few points for creeping me out."
"Are you sure that's wise?"
"Well, she's making it harder for her allies. Maybe it's just a strategy. Even evil Digimon have families. We have no qualms with the spirits that reside in this dark corner of the Digital World. They are just unwilling participants in our little games."
"So the Goddess of Destruction, has a heart after all..." "I may be a Goddess, but I'm also a woman. And any woman would be saddened seeing that happen to a mother." "Let's check in on Piedmon and see how the Prince of Chaos is doing."
Dante and Lilithmon watch as Piedmon is being chased by a pack of wolves. He runs like a dainty boy through the cave, his legs trembling and waving his hands.
"Nice doggies... Ahh! Who let the dogs out? I picked the wrong day to wear sandals."
One of the wolves leaps forward and bites Piedmon on the rear.
"Bwah! My fanny."
Lilithmon facepalms in disappointment.
"Maybe this trial was a bit more difficult than I expected. Hopefully they will all make it out alive, and we can start the final trial." "I certainly see a lot of potential. Devidramon is tough as nails, if not a full blown sociopath. Aeron and Bones look like they can hold their own against just about any foe. If both join the Mazoku, we will probably see those two competing for 2nd in command."
"What if they challenge you for your spot at the top?" "Then we will have to prove our superiority. I set up our ranks so that only the strongest will thrive. If someone can take the Mazoku to even greater lengths than I, then I would gladly see them as the leader, and continue to reap the rewards from our missions."
Dante knows the risks of a member of the Mazoku challenging them down the line, but he feels confident enough with Lilithmon's magic that they will not be knocked off their perch for some time. For now, Dante needs to focus on the trials, and build up his shady team before they start turning on each other like ancient evil space wizards.

Aeron was calculating a strategy to fight the bear off, and her partner digimon was growling and keeping the bear away from his Master. They were both occupied that they hadn't noticed what devidramon had found the cubs and promptly murdered one of them until they had heard the small fear filled cries of the rest of the cubs. Bones looked over and noticed their so-called comrade had decided that she wanted something easier to go after, Aeron gritted her teeth this just got much harder.
The mother bear had heard her cubs, she turned to the source of the distressed cries, the shadow bears blood red eyes landed on Devidramon. It wasn't long before the mother had realized what had happened, the mother was beyond furious, she gave a loud rage-filled roar and charged at devidramon. Aeron bit her lip, she had a plan and this fool went and ruined it, the tamer drew blood from her lip as she bit it harder. Looks like they were going with more reckless plan B, "bones get on her back now!!, attack the soft spots in her back!" she shouted to her Digimon. Bones wasted no time and made a mad dash for the bear, he jumped on her back just barely making it and bit and clawed at her back.
This caused the mother bear to roar in pain and stand on her hind legs to try and throw the Digimon off, in her struggle she had turned her back to her cubs and the Devidramon, she left her chest and belly vulnerable. Aeron narrowed her eyes and charged, holding the blad in front of her she aimed for where the shadow bears heart had to be"Bones let go now!" she shouted as the gap closed between them, Bones jumped down just as Aeron stabbed her blade into the mother Bears chest. The Bear roared again, "bones now!!" Bones ran to the front of the bear and then charged he slammed his claws into the bear's chest next to his master. The combined weight of both of them caused the bear to fall backward.
Aeron and Bones dug their weapons into the bear, they both priced to through her chest and out her back, the bear gave a final roar, her body spasmed a bit before she dissolved into nothing. both Digimon and tamer fell on the ground in a heap, Aeron hissed in pain, in the struggle the bear had managed to give Aeron a gash on her leg, her Digimon jumped up and ran over to her"master!, are you ok?!" the Digimon asked frantically, worry was written all over his face. Aeron used the sword the rip a bit of her dress, she used that strip of cloth to patch up her wound, it was going to scar but she could care less about that right now. "I'm fine, it's not gonna kill me," she said, Bones relaxed when he heard this, she was ok, she was safe.

This was a fun trial, Devidramon that prick enjoyed getting to slaughter a cub. He had caught the mother's attention and was drawing his sword once again seemly thinking this was a baseball tournament. But instead of getting to attack the bear, Aeron already had a revised plan. Aeron had ordered Bones to jump the bear on her back, Devidramon smirked. "Heh swords are fun too, maybe I should make one for myself after this." Surprisingly the girl's strategy was in fact paying off and as result of Bones attack, the bear had turned around not looking at devidramon. "Now I can... Oh right we're supposed to be allied." Devidramon was about to literally stab the bear in the back, but last minute he remembered that Bones was still riding the bear. Once again, after Bones was jumping off, Devidramon was preparing to stab the bear. This time he could do so and and as result there was now a sword sticking out of the shoulder where Devidramon had struck. But he had to let go of the sword. Due to this it was Aeron and Bones that got the privilege of killing the bear off. Naturally now he felt the need to be social, to Bones at least. "Great work Bones, it's great to have an agumon around." Curiously judging from the way Devidramon sounded when he congratulated Bones it was like Aeron had magically turned invisible. "Oh hey, my sword is back!" Devidramon then walked back to pick up 2 swords, while he kept one for himself. He also tossed the other to Bones. "Catch"
