MPC Name: Before there was data MPC Number: 45B Reward Requested: Bits (For Pakumen and Alexa)
Going into the digital world was old hat by now. After all, they’d explored most of the digital world together, and they were going in for another client’s case - looking for a lost little gatomon. It was therefore, very strange when the duo felt themselves twisting and turning before being placed on the ground of the digital world. But was it? Data and Alexa looked around. This definitely was not Terminus city. They were in the middle of the forest, on a dirt path. They heard the chirping of birds. But nothing looked familiar.
“This looks a bit more like the human world,” Data observed. “Think the portal malfunctioned?” Alexa looked around. That was possible. Then they heard the sounds of pounding hooves. Alexa and Data jumped out of the way just in time to avoid a Unimon-drawn carriage bounding down the path. It looked out of control. The two noticed quickly what the matter was - a hookmon riding a shimaunimon along with a few more creatures were chasing it.
“Looks like a job for… me.” Data said. He took a breath and then evolved into Wizardmon. With a flick of his wrist, he summoned thunder down close to the ruffians. The Shimaunimon reared up and ran back. The carriage stopped, with the unimon seemingly exhausted from the chase.
The door of the carriage opened, and a Prince Mamemon came out. He looked over to Alexa and Data, then went right to Data, ignoring the human entirely.
“Oh, my savior! My hero!” He grasped Data’s hands as Data looked on, confused. “Why, you must come to my castle, heck, would you consider being my court magician? I can offer you wealth and riches beyond your dreams. I am the prince of this realm, after all.”
Data looked at Alexa, and Alexa looked back at him. They were thinking the same thing - maybe if they agreed, they’d find out what the heck was going on.
“Alright. As long as I can bring my apprentice with me,” Data said, pointing to Alexa. Prince Mamemon looked over and scoffed.
“I supose. But I really must get her better robes. She looks like an eye sore. No bother, there’s plenty of good robes back in the castle!”
Alexa looked down at her clothes. They weren’t that bad, were they? Well, better to fit in, after all. She and Data went in the Carriage after Prince Mamemon. It was a bit cramped with the huge mamemon, but it was still relatively comfortable. The perks of royalty, they supposed.
The ride was uneventful. Alexa was looking out the window, and then she saw it - she poked Data, who looked over. There was huge medieval castle out the window, presumably the very castle Prince Mamemon was talking about. The huge gate opened, and they went over the moat into the courtyard.
Awaiting them was a QueenChessmon and a King Etemon.
“Son! Welcome back,” King Etemon said.
“Hello father. I’ve brought a new magician. He saved me from the hookmon hooligans,” Prince Mamemon said, slowly leaving the Carriage. He seemed to have some trouble due to his bulk. Alexa and Data helped pull him out.
“We don’t need a magician, we need a knight!” Queenchessmon said. “That damn dragon keeps wreaking havoc on our lands. Well, maybe a magician can do it.” She turned to Data. “Would you please help us?”
“Um, let me talk to my assistant,” Data said, hoping to get some time to talk to Alexa and figure out what they could.
“Yes, good idea. But first, please go to the guest room and get in proper vestments!” Prince Mamemon called out, right before he sat down on the grass. He called out to a servant to fetch him some mead and meat.
“Right. Good idea,” Data said. The two were shown the guest quarters by some pawn chessmon servants. There, Alexa changed to a more period green dress. Apparently, Data was fine as he was. HE had his staff, he had his magic. All he needed was some armor and a sword.
“Well, I guess we’re dragon slayers now,” Alexa said.
“Right, but I want to find out more about this place. Let’s go down into the main hall of the castle. I bet there’s some digimon there were can talk to.”
Alexa nodded, and without more fuss, the two went down to see what faced them in the main hall of the castle.

Slowly getting back up Edgar shook his head rubbing his eyes as he got up, sitting on his bum he looked around the area for a few moments before shooting upright glancing around in every direction. "Wait, what's going on, where am I?" He questioned to no one before seeing Artemis awake and looking around. "Oh General, finally you're awake." Relief was obvious in his voice. "Yeah I'm up now, where are we?" He pondered taking out his Xros Loader for a moment looking at it, the digivice didn't seem to be working right about now, which was probably ok for now considering he couldn't even use it to evolve.
They were in the middle of a field with a large city nearby, sitting upright Edgar shot to his feet before looking around again. "Where's Terminus, better yet where's Shibuya?" He asked Artemis, the little digimon simply shook his head not sure where they were exactly. "Wherever we are we'd best be careful, after all, who knows what could have brought us here." Edgar just nodded, he was thinking the same but it was concerning.
While standing they the duo managed to be found by some wandering Pawnchessmon. "Oh travelers, what are you doing near the cas-" He stopped looking at the back of Artemis, he was floating and the wings were a dead giveaway. "Oh, an Angel, could this be a sign?" He asked completely ignoring Edgar standing near Artemis. "Huh, oh yeah, and a sign of what?" Artemis asked confused. "Perhaps you were sent to help, please Angel you must assist us, come with me to the castle." He asked kneeling before Artemis. "Uhh, only if the General can come also." The Pawnchessmon looked at him, before looking back at Edgar. "Him, he is a General? Then you can be of assistance as well." He said nearly sparkling. "Uhh, sure. Help with what though?" The Pawnchessmon simply pointed at the castle. "I'll explain when we get there, please follow me."
The duo simply shrugged hoping to get some answers they followed the chess piece, the trek wasn't that exciting and the chessmon managed to get through once he told them who they were. "Please excuse me, stay here if you would." He told the two of them running off upstairs, presumably to tell some higher up that an Angel and his General had arrived to help. Edgar threw his hood up standing in the main hall getting different types of stares from the others around here, most of them were looking at Artemis rather then Edgar though so he was at least a bit safe from some of them. "Hopefully we can get some answers, come on lets try talking to some people around here." Artemis nodded and the two of them started walking around the hall, Edgar stood out in the hall though despite being quite short.

So, the main hall was nice. Very main hall-y, Alexa assumed. She'd been in castles before, but not ones that actually had people living in them. Just ones that were touristy. It was kind of like a weird history lesson, being here now. Well, she supposed medieval digimon were a bit different from their human counterparts, but only just slightly.
The two saw a couple of Gekomon lounging around. Alright, that seemed like as good a place to start as any. They looked like they were in a band or something - besides the horns usually wrapped around the species's heads, they had drums and some other play things scattered nearby.
"Excuse me, can you inform us about this 'dragon' problem?" Data asked, getting their attention with a wave. They lazily looked over to him, going slowly, as though they'd rather be doing anything else.
"Oh yeah. This dragon digimon's been eating crops and live stock and doing all this bad stuff."
"Real bad stuff," a second added.
"Even kidnapped the princess," a third said. Wait, what?
"The princess of the castle?" Data asked.
"Oh no, the princess was in a different castle. Still sucks for her. She'd probably gonna get eaten," one of them said. "Right, anything else? We got to practice." The group looked like they were going to do anything but that. It was likely they just wanted Data out of their hair, or lack of.
"That's fine. Thanks," Data said. He and Alexa turned to each other. Okay, this was a bit more serious than they thought earlier.
"Hey, wait a minute. I recognize that boy," Alexa said, squinting at someone at the other side of the room. "Hey, that's Edgar. How about that. Hey! Edgar!" She yelled as she and Data rushed over to their friends. Weird how they all managed to get trapped together in this strange land lost in time.
"Hey there. Guess you got trapped here too. So, uh, apparently we have to kill a dragon. You up for that, you guys?" Data asked as they got closer.

Well they were here now, it was a giant main hall, Edgar was a bit giddy if he was honest, while that feeling was far below the feeling of shock and fear of everything going on right now, with the Digimon acting like it was medieval times and having to be inside a random castle, the giddy part came from the fact that HE WAS IN A FREAKEN CASTLE. So while he might be worried about everything else going on he still had a soft smile on his face, the entire area was just like out of a picture book, though with Digimon instead of humans, that was a small thing that Edgar elected to ignore for now.
Artemis though simply floated over to some Digimon sitting around, another chessmon though this one was white while the other was black. "Excuse me, what's going on?" This shocked the Digimon for a moment looking around for a few moments before looking down at Artemis. "Hi." He said the Digimon shook his head surprised for a moment at Artemis talking in his head. "The prince has been saved by a Wizard, apparently he has agreed to help slay the dragon that has been causing problems." He said, though his tone seemed to just scream for Artemis not to ask any more questions. So Artemis just left it at that.
Edgar was still looking around before he heard someone familiar. "huh?" Edgar turned around seeing his friends coming over, Artemis had floated over next to Edgar once again. "Hey Alexa, Data," Edgar said waving at his friends. Artemis though looked at the new Data up and down for a few seconds. "Oh, he's the Wizard that saved the prince." Edgar looked at Artemis, though he only said it to Edgar no one else. "A dragon? I mean, me and Artemis are always willing to help, what are friends for." The kid said with a smile.
"Though it is weird, I wonder what happened to the digital world, one second we're in Terminus next we're here." Edgar pointed out glancing around. "Me and the General ran into a Chessmon, apparently Angels mean something here and I told him about the General, he brought us here to help out I think." Artemis states, after all, he knew why they were here so, might as well tell them.
"Still wonder if this Dragon has something to do with why we're here." Edgar pointed out, after all, it seemed important, maybe they were pulled here to help with that.

Friends. That word now made Alexa smile instead of shy away. They were friends, really friends. She'd looked up the meaning of friendship after their last encounter, and all the lists she'd looked up seemed to agree that Edgar and Artemis were friends with Data and her. And now they were going to maybe fight a dragon together. That wasn't on any of the friends list, but it still seemed like something friends would do together.
"Something similar happened to us, actually. We were trying to go to the digital world for a client, but we just ended up here. We think maybe the portal malfunctioned," Data explained.
"And yeah, you do kind of look like an angel, Artemis. Angels were kind of a big deal back in the human middle ages. I guess that's why it's a big deal here," Alexa said.
"You've got a point there. We may as well defeat the dragon. It could be that we're here to help out. That may send us back home," Data suggested. Alexa gave him a look. "Well, anything's possible."
"Oh, there you are, mister wizard, mister angel," An elecmon hopped over to the party, once again completely ignoring the humans present. "I'm here to bring you over to the armory. The king and queen requested that we suit you up for your fight with the dragon."
Alexa looked over to Data, who nodded. "That's a good idea. You and Edgar at the very least should get some armor on to make sure you don't get burned or scratched up by the dragon."
"Alright," Alexa said. Elecmon nodded then hopped through the great hall, leading the party to the armory, which was tucked in the corner of the castle. It was a huge room full or suits of armor, shields, and a whole bunch of weapons. Swords, maces, lances, anything you could imagine.
"This is cool, but I think I'm okay with my staff. Plus I can disappear if the dragon breathes fire at my. Why don't you go ahead, Alexa and - oh, you did," Data said. As he was talking, Alexa was already looking through the armor and weapons greedily.

Edgar looked confused on that whole malfunctioning thing, though now that he gave it some more thought they were literally traveling between two worlds so maybe time travel wasn't that too far off for the course? But thinking about it made his head hurt a little more so he quickly dismissed that line of thinking. "Hope that client can wait, gonna have to." Edgar pointed out, must suck to have the detective you sent out get whisked away to a mysterious world, but all the more reason to head back faster.
Artemis looked back at his wings for a moment, as did Edgar. "Yeah I suppose so, that and Artemis always flies everywhere." Edgar didn't give it much thought, to begin with, but looks like that little fact proves to be useful. "They were? Well then glad me and the General are big deals."
Though the Elecmon proved to point out that Edgar and Alexa weren't that big of deals around here, probably because they're humans. "And Alexa and the General." Artemis annoyed pointed out to the Elecmon, he didn't seem to take well to his friend and General getting ignored. Edgar simply waved it off. "It's fine Artemis, not like they'd think I'm a General anyway."
"But the General's the General, no matter what he feels about it," Artemis complained but seemed to drop it there. "I should be fine, I mean I kinda can't wear armor really. I'm not strong physically." Artemis pointed out with his stubby hands and feet, he couldn't move much less fly if he was wearing something heavy on. "Plus I can repel attacks pretty easily. I should be fine." Artemis assured the group.
Edgar though like Alexa did take to looking at the equipment very carefully, though when he tried to pick up a sword he found that he was pretty weak and barely managed to get it off the ground before toppling over. Embarrassed he simply scratched the side of his head face a bit red. "It's uhh, heavier then I thought." He muttered out. He and Artemis did manage to find a chest piece and helmet that even he could wear, though he ended up looking more like a dork than a soldier with armor on over his normal hoodie. A dork with a shortsword and a lightweight shield though so watch out.

"Yeah. Though wouldn't it be wild if when we returned, it stays the same time? Like how digital world time passes quicker than the real world? Might just be wishful thinking," Data admitted. He didn't want an upset client to leave bad reviews for him. That would be bad for business.
"Maybe you should get a smaller sword. Don't worry - even most knights had trouble with them. They had to spend a long time training before being able to wield a sword," Alexa explained, happy to have an excuse to use some of her history knowledge. "Still, looking good." She herself suited up with some lightweight armor and picked up a small mace and shield. There. She was ready.
The elecmon waited for them. He seemed to not hear Artemis's complaints, or at least ignored them. "When you're done, there's a carriage outside waiting for you, it'll bring you most of the way to the dragon."
Alexa and Data followed the elecmon outside to the carriages. There was a big one waiting for the brave dragon slayers which was surrounded by gawking spectators. Alexa looked down, trying not to look. It was a little intimidating. Data just waved a bit before getting into the carriage.

Edgar gave that some thought, technically this was the digital world so was time still going slowly or would it keep going the same alongside the time. "Well, whatever the case here's hoping it's fine," Artemis reassured after all the client would probably by that they had to fight a dragon to get back home in order to get back and assist, Artemis was sure of it.
Edgar simply nodded looking at the shortsword he picked up. "Eh, I at least hope I won't have to use this, I'm not exactly the strongest kid around." Edgar pointed out, but he still had something and that was enough. "Same to you, look like a real warrior." Edgar was finally ready to, probably run away from a dragon.
Artemis seemed more annoyed that the Elecmon simply ignored him, it had to be that considering Artemis talks in their heads, but as the General said it probably wasn't worth the time put into it. They were gonna leave anyway.
Edgar and Artemis followed suit looking around at all the gawking spectators, like Alexa Edgar looked at the ground instead of towards the carriage shyly pulling the helmet down over his face, no matter the area or time he would still be embarrassed by others. Even if they were here for mostly Data and Artemis. The latter who raised a stub to wave like Data before the two of them got in the carriage.

"Thanks," Alexa managed to say before the mouthpiece on the helmet came down and made it hard to talk. she re-adjusted it so so she could see again. "We're going to bring this dragon down," she said, once more sounding more confidence than she actually felt.
"This really does look different," Data mused as the carriage went through the forest.
"Looks like some of the forest I've seen in Europe. But nothing like the ones in the digitial world. Or the digital world we've seen," Alexa noted. The trees in the digital world did tend to have more vivid colors than that in the real world and wherever they were too.
They only has so long to muse over trees however, as the carriage soon stopped. They were on the edge of the forest and surrounded by abandoned farmland. About 300 meters away was a cave in the middle of the farmland. A plume of smoke rose up from it.
"Going to guess that's our spot," Data said as he got out of the carriage. He helped Alexa get out, as the armor made it pretty hard to move, being so stiff. "Alright. Let's head out, team."

Edgar looked out at the forest also, looking around it really did feel like it was a whole different world with how everything looked. "Yeah, though that was a thought that concerned me. If everyone here is a Digimon does that mean we're gonna go fight a digital dragon, or a real one." Edgar pointed out, after all, wouldn't they call the dragon by name rather than just dragon.
"Wait there are dragons in the real world? General why didn't you tell me that sounds much more dangerous." Artemis said alarmed at this new fact. "Eh well mostly just mythos and books, I suppose there are some real-life ones in name but nothing that, bad." Edgar pointed out, usually, people don't get sent to deal with what passes for a dragon in the real world.
And now they were near the edge of the forest, an abandoned farmland is what they came across and up near it was a cave, that already had some smoke coming out of it. "Is it too late to call it quits?" Edgar semi joked before he felt himself being pushed by Artemis. "No backing out General, this is the time you'll prove how good of one you can be," Artemis seemed adamant about his General fighting a dragon. "I know, I was just kidding Artemis." He said with a shaky laugh.
Edgar and Artemis quickly followed suit ready to take on a dragon, or at least as ready as they'd ever been.

"Beats me. But one thing is for sure - it breathes fire," Data responded, rather unhelpfully.
"No, Artemis, there are no real dragons. Then again, a few days ago I didn't know digimon existed, so maybe I'm wrong," Alexa added. "I mean, you can if you want. But I think this dragon is the key to use going home. So I'm going to see what's up with it. Even if you are kidding," Alexa said, before heading straight to the cave like some kind of brave idiot. Data followed.
There was a small dragon there. A human-sized green dragon. A Coredramon Green. It was sitting lazily, chewing on some unidentifiable bones. It was surronded by burnt suits of armor and a few more bones.
"Oh. More dumb knights here to 'kill me'. I'm sure you'll all make a great meal. Been awhile since I had angel and wizard. And... what the heck are you supposed to be?" It asked, waving a lazy claw at Alexa and Edgar.
"Humans," Alexa said, taking a shaky step forward. The dragon perked up upon hearing that.
"Humans? I thought you were only legend. Um, let's talk this out, no need for violence," it said. Well, that was a quick change in personality.

Well if anything that Alexa said made Edgar feel like she was a lot braver then him if a lot more willing to face a dragon could be considered brave. "I was just joking, I have to get home," Edgar said with renewed vigor, after all, if she was willing to rush straight into the cave of a dragon then why should he be willing to do the same. Artemis followed his General suit seemingly happy he decided to rush face first into danger, he supports a dangerous lifestyle that Artemis.
Edgar paused looking at the Digimon, would appear his hunch was wrong this was, in fact, a Digimon. Though the bones seemed like a bit much, did Digimon have bones? He couldn't tell ya. Edgar and Artemis simply shook the threat of being a meal off, both getting ready to, do something. What that something was Edgar didn't know but by god was he going to do it.
"Yeah, we're humans," Edgar said confused as to why this dragon cared when the prince and literally no one else cared. "Talking's good, then again we're led to believe you ate a lot of others," Artemis said, Edgar and him didn't exactly trust the human-sized dragon right off the bat, but neither really made a motion to attack the dragon. Opting to wait for either the Dragon to talk or Alexa and Data to make a move.

Alexa grabbed her mace, just in case. Sure, the dragon was talking all sweet now, but things could turn bad any moment, right? Data seemed to have the same idea, as he gripped his staff tighter as he got closer to the dragon.
"You're talking about the castle? I didn't eat anyone! Well, I ate the digimon they sent after me, but that was self defense," it said, as it's tail swept aside some of the bones on the ground. "I hear that humans have killed all the dragons in their world. Don't do that to me, okay? Please."
"Well, we don't have to. But it seems you're causing a lot of trouble here. Have you thought of going to greener pastures? Or maybe more volcanic pastures," Data suggested. Coredramon put a claw up to its face, as though considering this.
"I guess I could. There would be less food... but I don't want to find out what humans did to their dragons...." It said, keeping a steady eye on Alexa and Edgar.

Edgar had his sword up, not that high though but it was enough to look at least a tad bit more threatening, cause what's more threatening than an 11-year-old with a sword? Artemis already had a bow of light drawn behind him ready to fire just in case.
The humans have killed all their dragons, Edgar tried his hardest not to look dumbfounded, luckily with his helmet, he managed to look straight-faced. Edgar didn't want to say anything about that, best to just leave the dragon to his delusions of what humans can do.
"Yeah you don't, you should see the General's people, they can get nuts," Artemis added. Edgar simply gave a sigh at this but deciding to play along. "He's right, even if there's less food you don't want meet the same fate our worlds dragons had," Edgar said keeping his tone as level as possible, sounded pretty threatening.

Coredramon almost laughed at the sight of the young boy with the sword, but it thought better of it. Best not to agitate the humans, after all. It looked over all the digimon and humans assigned to best it. They all had their weapons at the ready. That didn't bode well.
"I've heard tell of even more dangerous humans. Destroying their environment and other animals. Scary stuff," Data said, laying it on thick. Alexa just nodded. Coredramon looked terrified. It looked from Edgar to Alexa before bringing it's wings up.
"You've convinced me. I'm out of here. Thanks for not killing me." And with that, it flew up into the air, flying out of the area, presumably forever.
"Alright, that's settled. Now, maybe we can get home," Alexa said hopefully. But a few minutes passed, and nothing happened. No portal or anything.
"Maybe we should return to the castle. Get a reward, at the very least," Data suggested. Alexa sighed and nodded. Apparently things wouldn't be as easy as she'd hoped. The two trudged along back to the carriage.
