As cautious as Elliot's approach was, it probably had been... a mistake. But he had no way to know that, really. Not a second after the hat was thrown next to the machine, the sound of metallic bars descending abruptly and turning the whole basement into a cage of sorts, all while the smoke grew so dense it was pretty much impossible to see through it.
"I've been expecting you." A deep voice rumbled within the room, echoing pretty menacingly. "I know something was wrong my little plan, but didn't take me long enough to figure out you were the ones trying to play detective. There won't be a next time, but you should've been more subtle if you didn't want to be found out."
A heavy Foot resonated with the floor, probably the only warning the small group would get before the fight began. Was this strange being giving them a head start? That sounded like it was underestimating the group...
Amsel looked over at Elliot just as the Digimon took off his hat, he did look rather human-like but she wasn't at all surprised, she guesses that some Digimon looked more human-like then others. She listened to Elliots idea and nodded "alright, it would be smarter to make sure nothing too dangerous" she said agreeing with Elliots logic.
She and her partner watched as the hat was thrown and landed near the tank, then all hell broke loose, Ru-Rus fur fluffed as the sound of bars sliding down around them was heard. He immediately stuck close to Amsel his eyes darting everywhere, trying to peer through the smoke. Amsel tensed up, quick as a flash she took out her device and crouched, she stayed near her partner ready too jump away in case something attacked them from the smoke-filled room.
It was then that both human and Digimon heard a voice coming from somewhere in the smoke-filled room, Amsel narrowed her eyes, while Ru-Rus eyes turned to slits and he growled."show yourself you, coward! fight like a real mon!" she shouted. At this time she activated her partners digivalution, Ru-Ru was covered in data.
Dorumon Digivolve To
The data burst out word and Dorumons champion form stood in all his glory, the virus Digimon growled crouching low ready to attack or move. The champion was no bigger than a horse, Amsel quickly climbed on her partners back and kept her eyes peeled for any sign of the enemy. she was fighting beside her partner Digimon no matter what.
Katsura and Nyao looked at Elliott as he took off his hat, without that hat he looked quite human. This lead Katsura to address this elephant in the room. "Huh, you're a spirit wielder then. What's your element?" "Katsura, focus on the mission." Katsura taking Nyao's hint looked at Amsel who was staring at Elliott's hat nodding. In order to fit in Katsura copied Amsel's nodding and was now staring at the hat. But before any of them could see the results of this experiment, the sound of bars falling down could be heard, most likely the basement was a trap and now they were captured in a cage. Strangely neither Katsura or Nyao were very worried at this turn of events. Which might be rather ironic considering how big a deal the darkness was. While they listened to the voice, Nyao casually drew out her oversized sword keeping it ready for a fight. Katsura meanwhile more or less ignored the voice in favor of touching her kimono to locate her important belongings. Seems like everything were in the pockets she expected. "Sigh, so much for taking the indirect approach."

Crap. Was the hat throw a touch too much? Honestly, Elliot figured if they were being watched, them lingering close to the machine instead of just running away would've been a sign as is. However, they could've possibly conducted things a little bit more smoothly. Maybe if they had just subtly walked over to the machine instead, it wouldn't have gone into full lockdown. Or maybe it would have gone into full lockdown, but they would have been closer to a potentially dangerous machine. It was a tossup, and Elliot had no idea if he had made the right choice or not. Nevertheless, he whispered a quick "Sorry," as the bars to the basement went down.
Fortunately, the villain was too busy making threats to actually appear yet. Elliot quickly took the time to go over all the variables of this situation. They put the basement on lockdown, so either they had control of the house from the beginning or they wrested control of it after their activities were ousted. They were able to smuggle this smoke machine in here, either as a decoy to sniff out sleuths or as an actual weapon that would make destroying them much easier. That indicated either a lot of size, technical skill, or minions. Judging by those massive footsteps? Size was probably a factor. And, judging by the proximity of these footsteps? They were quite close.
Elliot focused on his core, feeling the data from the various cards he had purchased shuffling around in there. The D-MR program honestly felt really funny in his gut, but he couldn't lie that it was more useful than fumbling with his Digivice in the middle of combat. He'd just have to think of the right cards to use on the fly to turn the tides on this ambusher . . .
Another heavy foot stomped into the basement, all the smoke suddenly cleared as the figure of... Guardromon appeared.
This didn't look to be an ordinary Guardromon, however. He was easily twenty times bigger than a normal Guardromon, and the metal composing his body was shiny and silverish instead of the usual rusty reddish. "I see that you have come. Very well."
A pregnant moment of silence flooded the air for a second for a second as the eyes of newcomer focused on Nyao. "I'll be your opponent; get ready."
In a manner that was usual to all and every Guardromon, the robotic digimon lifted his arms; two compartments near its wrists opened, and the next moment, five bullet-like grenades in a cop's outfit with whistles and sirens came out.
"Destruction Grenade!" They literally were whistling and making police car sounds as they careened towards each of the beings present in the basement. Whether they hit their intended targets or the terrain near them, they'd release a fair bit of concussive force and a cloud of whitish smoke.Distraction Grenade: Effects unknown. For now.
Amsel and RuRu were not far from Nyao when their opponent decided to show himself, the virus Digimon growled and turned to face their opponent, his ankles were raised ready to attack, defend or get out of the way. Amsel glared at the Guradramon, shes faced bigger. However both Digimon and tamer tensed up when the Digimon declared that Nyao would be his opponent for the first round. Human and Digimon watched as the Gaurdramon sent rockets at Nyao.
Amsel wanted to help Nyao but she knew some Digimon took offense to help given, plus the battle was between the enemy and Nyao she had no right to interfere. As if her partner read her mind, the champion jumped out of the range of the missiles, he stood on standby in case Nyao asked for their help. Amsel watched the Gaurdramon making sure that the brute didn't target them next, she didn't want them to be caught off guard.
This happened to be at least the 3rd time Nyao had fought a gun wielding opponent and as of now Nyao was relatively adapt at dealing with these sorts of situations. A way to tell that Nyao had tried this before was the way she interacted with RuRu without taking her eyes off of the challenger. "Protect Katsura." Now having taken care of Katsura's safety, Nyao could give Gaurdramon her full attention, and just in time to see him pointing his arm at Nyao. Before Gaurdramon could open his arm to launch the grenades, a yellow spark briefly came in Nyao's eyes as she glared at Gaurdramon's eyes. "Stop" The yellow light has a strange hypnotic effect on Gaurdramon, he would now be sidelined by the need to obey that command. Was this power sufficient enough to cancel out Destruction Grenade before the attack could even be made? Nyao didn't have the patience to find out as she charged towards getting right next to Gaurdramon, once close enough she'd try slash Gaurdramon on his arms. Using 'Order of the Goddess' Nyao tried to subvert Distraction Grenade with the word "stop" (Pending the result of Nyao's counter) Nyao charged during the effect of Order of the Goddess If successful, Nyao would try attacking Gaurdramon's arms with her sword Order of the Goddess [RAM Upgrade]:
Nyao's eyes briefly flashes yellow, while doing so Nyao may say a one word command that must be obeyed by everyone who has seen these flashing eyes. While the technique technically cannot be blocked except by being blind it is limited in effect: If the order is nonsensical the attack is wasted (she can't order a wormmon to fly), if the order is suicidal or out of character the listener may resist through sheer force of will a super mega is almost guaranteed to resist in this situation, the listener is not obligated to follow the intention of the order, only the letter. (A WarGreymon forced to "fire" may shoot a missile or breath fire). As a rule of thumb the listener answers the question "(Order) what?" Independent of Nyao's intentions. Elliot's brow furrowed in frustration as he noticed the Guardromon appear. He was huge. He was flashy. And he didn't quite sound like the person in the room that Elliot had first heard. Something didn't quite feel right about the whole situation, and Elliot found himself peering into the darkness to try and see what was up. If only he could put his finger on what was wrong here . . .
Then the Guardromon announced the name of his move, and Elliot found himself nodding in agreement. That's right. This massive, flashy Digimon was a distraction, wasn't he? Elliot lowered himself into a fighting stance, waiting for the Distraction Grenade to approach as closely as possible. If he was going to out-distract the distraction, he'd need to take his shot very, very carefully.
Elliot leaped back from the grenade at the last minute, but his plan had cost him. The grenade exploded a little too close for comfort, the shockwave rippling Elliot's robes and a piece of shrapnel lodging into his shoulder. Nevertheless, he couldn't let his pain show now. Not when he still had a plan to execute. He clenched his teeth to avoid giving away his position as he focused on the D-MR program inside of his core, loading the Particle Decelerator program. The cloud of white smoke would be a blessing for him instead of a curse, hiding the fact that he had shrunk to the size of an action figure. He hoped that Guardromon would be too focused on the smoke to pay attention to the fact that he was slowly making his way to the bars of the basement. Maybe if he was lucky, the mysterious figure who set up this ambush would be waiting there.
Elliot knew he wouldn't have too much time to scout. He promised he'd make this moment count, lest he end up leaving his allies to a cruel fate instead.
Elliot takes a glancing blow from the Distraction Grenade, sucking up the hit to focus on enacting his plan instead.
Elliot uses the Particle Decelerator card to shrink down, aiming to slip past Guardromon and make his way to the bars at the other side of the basement.
JT-24 Card Name: Particle Decelerator Type: Modify Rank: Silver Duration: 3 Posts Effect: The target Digimon shrinks to a tenth of their size, allowing them to fit into smaller places.
Nyao's own order was partially effective; the animated bullets that were supposed to be launched at everyone in the end just found their way towards Elliot. As soon as they made contact with any surface, however; they'd immediately emanate a thick smoke screen, pretty much impeding any form of visibility to any digimon or human present.
Maybe it was because Nyao had lost visibility, or maybe the Guardromon was too fast, but her sword sliced into... thin air. Her enemy was crafty, if anything.
Amid the thick shroud of smoke, however, another cry pierced the apparent silence. "Destruction Grenade!". Soon enough, the whistling sound of more bullets flooded the air, this time, however... the two projectiles were aimed directly at Amsel.
Elliot, on the other hand, would find out that there wasn't an other side of the basement. Maybe it was a clever illusion, or maybe a trick of sorts, but instead, he found himself directly outside of Caritas. Could it be that the Guardromon just intended to... keep them away from Caritas? There was just one way to answer, was it?Destruction Grenade: Effects unknown. This time, targetting Amsel.
The champion level Digimon nodded at Nyaos request, the humans needed to be protected, RuRu stood near Kat one of his odd patchy wings over her in a protective manner. Amsel smiled and gave Nyao a thumbs up as she rushed to attack the Guardromon, both Digimon and tamer watched as Nyao using an odd attack caused the other Digimon to shoot rather messily. It was easy for RuRu to dodge those first rockets because they weren't aimed at them anymore. However, it seemed like the second round wasn't going to be as easy, this time the champion had aimed at none other then Amsel.
RuRus eyes turned to slits as he watched the Rockets come closer, his tamer wasn't going to get hurt on his watch. The virus type Digimon quickly but gently picked up Kat by the back of her clothing and put her on his back next to Amsel. The champion then puts a bit more distance between them and the attack, there was a hiss as the metal muzzle around DexDorugamons snout unhinged and opened allowing the Digimon to open his mouth. Taking a deep breath the Champion level Digimon shot out multiple spheres of metal at the rockets"CANNON BALL!!" a deep raspy voice came from RuRu as he sent the attack toward the rockets.
Battle Log RuRu avoids the first wave of rockets
not so lucky with the second, he puts Kat on his back and sends out his own attack to intercept the Rockets.
Cannon Ball: fires iron sphere from the mouth, stronger if the Digimon stands still to gather power(1 turn cooldown, raises attack only if he stands still)
Welp Nyao's strategy was a half in half deal, she had minimized the impact on the rest of the group and even getting someone to take care of Katsura in her place. On the other hand her offensive strategy has yet to work especially now that a large smoke was obscuring her sight. As result, Nyao slashed nothing but the thin air. "Sigh" Without sight Nyao couldn't tell that Elliott was currently struggling in the fight. "Is all well over there?" "I'm fine, Ru-ru takes care of me and Amsel." While waiting for Elliott to answer, Nyao was going over the problem. How do you fight an opponent that you can't see? Well Nyao was already able to fight through instinct so that lessens the need for thought input, Nyao closed her eyes and waited, then Nyao heard a voice. "Destruction Grenade!" the voice yelled. Now everything came together in Nyao's head, yes it was impossible to see and no this attack was not targeting Nyao. But while Gaurdramon was invisible he wasn't silent, Nyao swiftly ran towards the voice making as little noise as possible then by the time she was close enough, Nyao stabbed the largest obstacle in front of her with the large blade reasoning that only Gaurdramon would be big enough to disrupt the flow of gas. Katsura was meanwhile enjoying a ride on a DexDorugamons back from there she could see RuRu fighting the missiles. Katsura wanted to use her cards but right now there was a jarring flaw in that plan: How would you use a card if you can't see anything? No one has tried to attack Nyao this turn. Nyao is going for a sneak attack exploiting Guardromon's need to yell his attacks

Elliot gasped as he found himself tearing through the veil of darkness and back out towards Caritas. It was as if the entire hallway and stairway to the basement had been removed from time and space, and in its absence Elliot had been shunted right out to the start of this adventure. He blinked in disbelief, muttering to himself "Caritas?" as he looked the club up and down. He gave himself a sharp pinch to the side, but the pain was real. Clearly he wasn't dreaming, right?
Immediately he reached for the communicator that he had been assigned, trying to get as much information out to the others as possible. "I escaped!" he said, a bit of Elliot's natural enthusiasm starting to slip out of MagnaAngemon's typical stoicism. "I slipped past the bars. I do not know why or how, but the basement leads right back to Caritas. Not even the inside, but the outside. I think this machine was a trick, while they moved us all somewhere. They must want us away from Caritas for some reason. But why?
I am going back in. I need to."
Without further ado, Elliot started making his way towards the door. He knew this eviction most likely meant he was a persona non grata at the moment, so he didn't directly make his way inside. Instead he took advantage of his heavily-reduced size to try and peer through the crack in the door. Maybe if he was lucky, he'd be able to do some scouting before he ended up being forcibly restored to size.
ElliotSeemingly, Elliot's communicator was able to work properly; everyone in the basement would be able to hear him, and probably respond if they tried hard enough. Surprisingly, nothing came out from Yuu/Kyo's line, however.
But he'd find out soon enough. Soon enough, as he careened towards Caritas' entrance proper, he'd find something that didn't resemble the place where he had been moments before. The whole Nightclub seemed to be the stage of an epic fight between everyone who remained, almost as if they had all gone crazy or something of the sort.
And Yuu was nowhere to be seen. At least there...Amsel, Nyao, Katsura and Ru-RuThe Cannon Ball impacted against the Destruction Grenades, creating yet another smokescreen. Being able to see was pretty much an impossible task, even though the group seemed to be handling themselves quite well by using their other senses.
For now, the two humans and two digimons on the "good guys" side were pretty much unharmed, and a pretty decent hit was going to reach Guardramon, but...
Apparently, the plating on his arm had gotten unbelievably hard, and the enemy had used that quality to block Nyao's attack. The vibrations were so intense that they'd prove troublesome for Nyao, unless she had a pretty solid footing.
"Destruction Grenade!" This time, the attack was at point blank, and directed straight to Nyao's face. What would they do.
Just after the robot's deafening yell, Elliot's conversation began to reach the everyone in the basement...
Amsel whooped as RuRu successfully defended them using his attack, of course, the young girl had one arm on Kats shoulder and her other hand was holding onto her Digimon partner. There was to much smoke to properly see were the enemy was at, his concerned Amsel, they could easily be ambushed like this. Ru-Ru, on the other hand, could feel his strength slightly increase due to Metal Cannon, however, he dared not to charge into the smoky field in front of them, he had two humans on his back that he would rather like to keep safe and not to mention they couldn't find their enemy in all this smoke unless he attacked again.
The virus type Digimon hunkered down and listened closely, right now the best he could do is be on the defensive, his ears would be sharp enough to pick up the enemy's heavy footfalls if he decided to attack them. Amsel was looking around as well, she didn't have sharp sense like her partner but she was still going to have his back, it was then that she heard Elliot's voice come from the communication device in her ear. The tamer activated the device and decided to speak through it" that's great! how'd you managed to squeeze through the bars? huh, that's odd, the machine was a distraction, guess that makes sense, wonder what this mystery bad guy was really up to" she was happy to hear that one of her comrades has escaped without injury, however, his information raised more questions. if this had been a distraction what was the target really planning then?.
The attack didn't go exactly as Nyao had hoped, it seems like her mediocre battle luck was continuing. Once Nyao tried to stab Gaurdramon on the arm she heard a large clang. The vibrations meant that Nyao couldn't follow the attack up right away as she needed to focus her powers on fixing her posture to compensate. That however did not mean Nyao was planning to go down without a proper fight. She knew from the direction of her blade exactly what way Gaurdramon was standing and could make a rather qualified guess at where he was looking considering that he was currently trying to shoot Nyao. Nyao decided to interrupt Gaurdramon the second he said the word "De" not allowing him to finish yelling. Right at this special moment, Nyao turned her heard towards the sound and a red light came out from her helmet. Nyao then reached towards Gaurdramon's arm, she was trying to grapple him by the arm and move it up pointing towards the ceiling.
It was then that Elliott's message reached the basement, while riding RuRu Katsura listened closely to the voice. Once it was done Katsura spoke to RuRu. "I need to be able to see, can't you do something about the gas? Please." Nyao tries to counter Gaurdramon with Cobra stare before he can finish his sentence.
