This Might Have Been a Mistake [Cion]

What in the world was he thinking? Toki, spirit evolved into Turuiemon, trudged through the desert at a snail's pace. In an attempt to further connect with his spirit and train himself to withstand the evolution for longer periods of time, Toki decided on a bit of a pilgrimage throughout the Digital World. Even Turuiemon was approving of the idea...now they were both regretting it.
"This was a terrible idea, I'm sorry..." he said to himself. The spirit did not hold any resentment towards him for this. It just wanted them to find some place to rest and soon. With any luck he would reach Rustport before he ran out of supplies. To distract himself from the heat, he began to speak to his spirit "So are all of the totems separate spirits...? Or are they all a part of you?" he asked. The spirit replied that it seems to vary from person to person, but in Toki's case they all seem to be fragments of a whole, so the more totems he obtains, the more complete the spirit will be.
He continued to speak with the spirit and asked it how long it waited for someone to choose or what they were like beforehand. Anyone who happened to bump into him now would have it be very clear that he is either a Spirit User, or a poor Digimon whose data has been completely scrambled by the heat. Either one is a valid belief at this point.
The spirit's memories seemed to be in a bit of a haze. A result of the fragmentation no doubt. "Well, whatever the case...we'll find them...and you'll be all together again..." Toki said as he smiled to himself, still trying to power through the desert heat. He was exhausted, especially with the strain of spirit evolution. He kept his fingers crossed that he would find shelter soon, or someone who could take him to shelter.

Recently, in spite of her broken heart taking long to recover, Cion was attempting to look towards the future and, as always, work hard for it. As the newest member of P.R.O.F.I.T. without a duty to attend to thus far, she decided to get more in tune with her newest acquaintance. Vertigo the AceJetmon Mach Mode, a unique digimon with unrivaled speed, radicalness and zest for air combat video games installed onto his state of the art hardware. He was without a doubt a daredevil, but he also had a big heart and strong sense of loyalty and ethics. The vulpine digimon had carefully chosen her sidekick after all, despite the cost.
Casually cruising over the Folder Desert at mach 5, approximately 3800 miles per hour, without any real destination they looked forward to, Cion calmly sat inside the big digimon's cockpit, sipping black tea and bantering with Vertigo. Although sizable with his 22.000 pounds in weight and 49 feet in length, the living machine was easily capable of moving autonomously, allowing the versed huntress to lean back and relax. They shared stories of their current lives, mostly the positive and humorous ones, and at times drifted to how they would approach things when working together in the near future.
However, this got interrupted when the holo-screens inside the cockpit identified a single being in the desert beneath them, moving at a rather slow pace. Though covered behind a helmet of chromatic digizoid that only revealed her golden, cyborg-esque eyes, there was indeed surprise on her muzzle. "Shall we investigate, Cion?" He asked, voice deep and synthetic as seen so often in second rate action blockbusters. As response, the fully armored silver digimon nodded. "Yes. Might be dehydrated or delirious, or both." She answered, her voice that of a sophisticated, adult woman with similar synthetic aspects to it as Vertigo.
From the ground, an itty-bitty, dark gray speck in the sky could be seen moving in a strange pattern before halting. But it was in fact not stopping, but steadily becoming bigger, which of course meant that it approached the isolated, earthbound being. It did not take long before a vague shape was visible, a massive shadow drawing itself over the desert until it turned smaller again. The massive entity moved many dozen feet away from Toki, and eventually came to a smooth halt. Roaring fusion engines quietened when Vertigo only hovered inches over the sand, dispersing sand in all directions.
Red eyes shifted to the Turuiemon before the cockpit of the empowered AceJetmon opened. The CyberSagitamon Huntress Mode leaped outside and into the sand, her mantle of blue binary code waving violently in the wind created by the digimon she utilized as a vehicle. Fully covered in armor, except the white pelt around her neck and the white long tail on her hip, her golden eyes briefly swayed to the massive, futuristic anti-material rifle on her back. While she did not believe this digimon to be hostile, much less a threat, one could never be too sure.
Nodding, she slowly approached the Turuiemon, gently waving her hand at it. "Excuse me!" She called out for it, hoping it would not think of her an illusion created by the desert's heat. "Are you alright?" She showed concern in a composed way, carrying herself with grace and strength. How naive this poor guy must have been to walk through this hazardous environment by himself without proper protection.

Toki had paused when he saw the massive shadow overhead and looked up to see the jet-like figure swoop down towards him. At first he was convinced this was just a trick of the mind, but the surge of winds that erupted around the jet as it lowered closer to the ground seemed to prove him otherwise. He shielded his eyes from the sand with an arm as someone jumped out of the jet and approached him. Toki's body flickered slightly. He was about to reach his limit on his evolution, but he needed to push himself a little further. At least that's the excuse he gave himself.
Whoever approached him certainly didn't seem hostile. Far from it. They seemed more concerned than anything else "Huh...what? I-I'm okay, really. Just taking in the sights is all..." he chuckled nervously before he fell back and sat down with a thud in the sand. He frowned "Who am I kidding...I'm lost...thirsty...hungry. I thought I had this. I wasn't aware how big this place was. I heard there was a town out here and though I would be able to make it there with what I had." he sighed. He seemed so defeated, like he let himself down in a big way.
Toki tried to stand up again, but the desert heat began to get to him as he staggered towards the stranger. Shame filled every part of his mind. What kind of person who wanted to defend the Digital World couldn't even fend himself? He felt so weak. "I'm...sorry. I...I need help. Help me get out of this desert...please. I don't care where." he said. This is what he should be doing. He should be the one that can help get people safely out of bad situations, but here he was being rescued.

As Cion paused in front of the Turuiemon, The AceJetmon keeping tabs on both of them, she could not help herself but fold her arms, expressing clear doubt and some concern. Naturally, her facial expression was hidden beneath her helmet, although her golden, synthetic eyes likely gave some insight on how she felt about all of this. She had found herself in many bizarre situations before, like inside a virtual reality playing the digimon-equivalent of LoL, but there was just something so peculiar about this stranger that caught her attention. Maybe it was because he reminded her of herself a little; all headstrong and determined.
Though why did he flicker in that single instance? Before she could even contemplate that question, she beheld the hare-like digimon fall backwards onto his bottom. As to be expected, the stranger pretended that everything was fine, but even without showing any body language, it was clear as day that the ascended CyberSagitamon did not believe him. Listening to his brief story, she let out a sympathetic sigh and nodded. "Training is a long, steady process, my dear. Trying to push yourself too far only hurts you and your progress. I know patience is tiresome... but it's also a worthwhile necessity."
She had spoken these words almost like a caring mother, benevolence slightly enshrouded in her mature, partially synthetic voice; a typical aspect for cyborgs. Cion was not the most faithful adherer of virtue either, although only when it came to the state of the world. Seeing things change so slowly, even in the scope of decades and centuries, was more than a little weary. But, as always, she kept on fighting, hoping that she would make a difference, even if it only was in individual people like this stranger. Maybe her words alone had a positive effect, although she definitely would not leave him behind.
After all, he requested her help and seemed incapable of moving any further by himself. Reaching out for his hand without asking, she assured that he'd have a steady stance. "Sure, I'm glad to help. Just tell me which city you were heading for, and Vertigo will get us there." The vulpine digimon assured him, slowly moving herself and the Turuiemon over to the AceJetmon who was happy to fly to whatever location they wanted for as long as he could savor the sensation of soaring through the air at top speed.
"I'm Cion, newest member of P.R.O.F.I.T. What's your name, if I may ask?" She asked kindly, her armored hand briefly glowing in a gentle blue aura of binary code which soon engulfed the stranger in need for a second. It was her 'Data Recreation'-ability, which was usually utilized for injuries of any sorts, although it should also be capable of giving poor, young and naive digimon a boost in stamina and numb some of the exhaustion for a few moments. "Don't worry, darling. Something to drink and eat is inside the cockpit." She added, holding a bit tighter to the Turuiemon since she would have to make a strong leap to jump up onto Vertigo's wing. At least most of the loose sand hand been blown away by now.

When she began to tell him about how training was a long and steady process all he could do was nod. He knew that. He spent his entire life knowing that. Her voice soothed him, however, and he smiled at her "I've lived my whole life training...so I understand. I just thought that for once I can push forward on my own without someone else...I didn't want to be a burden to people."
He thought about his destination for a moment "I thought about going to Rustport, but now...I don't know. I don't know how I'd even get back if I went there now. I should probably go back to Terminus. It's probably safer for someone like me to learn and adjust there." he admitted.
Suddenly, he felt rejuvenated if only for a few moments. "O-oh...I'm Toki Akiyama...if that name sounds...strange, it's because-" he was cut off for a moment when they jumped onto the wing of Vertigo. "Whoa, okay." he said as he tried to remain balanced with Cion's help as they climbed into the cockpit. He settled into a seat behind Cion's and sighed that he finally has a chance to actually rest. "Oh, right. I was going to say that I'm not really a digimon. Fully, anyway. I'm a Spirit User, and Turuiemon is my spirit." he explained. "We both thought that exploring the Digital World would help us find our next totem when the time came, but I should have been more patient. I've also been trying to stay like this for longer periods of time so I don't change back at the worst moments."
With that, he reverted back to normal, being much taller than his spirit counterpart. Better to revert now then revert while buckled in and flying at impossible speeds. He looked at the scanner that was now back in his hand and whispered an apology to his friend "I'm sorry for pushing us so hard...I'll be mindful of my limits next time..." he looked at Cion "Um...thank you. If you didn't show up I probably wouldn't have...made it."

"I'm sure you are just being silly, my dear. Hardly could a swell young man like you be a burden. Besides, training is often best done with a partner." Cion assured him that he was not bothersome to her at all as she helped him walk over to Vertigo. Letting out a brief chuckle as they reached the wing, she could not help herself but to nod however. "But I understand where you are coming from. Pride in independence and success. Nothing wrong with that, but it can be dangerous." She added calmly, speaking from first hand experience, even if it was a memory thousands of years old.
"The port of Terminus it is then, Toki." She responded, utilizing the jetpacks at the bottom of her shoes to give them a little boost to get up the AceJetmon's wing. Already having an idea what Mr. Akiyama's true identity was since she was well versed in the manifoldness of the digital world, she quietly led him to his black leather seat. Unfortunately there was only room for one in the front and two behind the 'pilot', although that was hardly a problem. The AceJetmon complied without saying a word, automatically folding one of the back seats as to give both Toki and Cion more space.
"I will turn on the G-Force Diffuser so our guest can recover without strain." Vertigo spoke with his deep, mechanical voice that seemed to come from everywhere as the cockpit fully closed again. "Thank you, Vertigo." Cion expressed her gratitude with an unusually cute tone to her voice. She was truly delighted by the presence and attitude of her new partner in crime and looked forward to a future of prosperity and extermination of all that was evil. But for now, it was simply time to relax and attend to the spirit user.
Inside the mechanical digimon, everything was pleasantly quiet and cozy, and even when it started to dash through the sky again, almost immediately reaching top speed of mach 5, they would not feel any effect on their bodies due to the AceJetmon's unique internal systems. As terrain beneath them shifted in color and appearance at a rapid pace, it became clear that there was no need for the armored, vulpine digimon to utilize the solid-hologram control console. Her partner was perfectly capable of autonomy... not that she really knew how to fly a plain. But that was just fine for her.
Turning 180° backwards with her black seat to face Toki, she leaned forward, briefly pointing at the small yet modern refrigerator revealed from the removal of the third seat. It would contain plenty of bottled water and fruit juices, and a variety of top quality junk food. "Take what you need to recover your strength." She offered him, remembering that he said that he was both hungry and thirsty. She was wealthy and generous enough to happily share whatever was inside with him. After all, she was wearing the golden badge of P.R.O.F.I.T on her chest plate with pride.
"I see." She commented calmly when Toki explained his true nature and impetus, something she had already expected. Nodding, the helmet on her head and the cape of blue binary code around her body vanished into white particles, revealing her pretty, furry silver face. "Learning from mistakes is one of the most valuable experiences, even if they hurt. Keep on pushing forward with the wisdom attained today, and I am confident you'll accomplish your goals." She spoke, her voice audibly younger and with much less of an synthetic aspect to it. That was because she had de-digivolved into her Ultimate form.
As the spirit wielder too changed his form, now looking like a fine young man, she reached out for the refrigerator and got herself an ice-cold can of C0la Z3r0 out of it. Leaning back into her chair as she put one leg over the other, she took an inaudible sip and let out a pleased sigh. If anything, it was much better to be on the same e<e-level now that Mr. Akiyama showed his human self. "Don't mention it. Everyone needs a helping hand from time to time." She almost played down her act of kindness, humble as she so often was. Though ultimately, she was simply happy that she could help a kind being in need.
"Besides..:" Cion added, giving the control console of the AceJetmon a gentle nudge. "Without Vertigo, I wouldn't have been here." She implicitly credited the mechanical digimon for the good deed of the day, causing him to chuckle ever so quietly with a hint of pride.

Toki reclined, happy to be somewhere so comfortable after that poorly thought out adventure. When Cion revealed where the refrigerator was, he reached for a bottle of water immediately. He took off the cap and took a slow, long drink from it, after which he sighed in relief "That's so much better..." he said as he put the cap back on. He curiously looked at the various different junk foods, not entirely sure what he would like to try, so he picked something at random. It was a pastry since bread was filling and the idea that it had red bean paste filling sounded pretty good. He unwrapped the bread and stuffed the wrapping in his coat pocket, not wanting to throw trash all over the interior.
As he ate his snack of choice, he watched as Cion de-digivolved into her Ultimate state, a little surprised by her features, but not in a bad way. She was definitely pretty and her kindness towards him was welcome after the rough day he had. "It always...surprises me just how many kinds of Digimon there are. I've met living trees, talking bears, and unfortunately a very big very angry lion that almost...well, killed me and someone I was trying to help." he said, reminiscing about him and Gryz's battle with the MadLeomon "But now I'm in a Digimon that's a jet and meeting you, a fox wearing gear out of a science fiction story. At least...what I assume to be something out of a science fiction story...I never really had a chance to read or watch a lot, but I've seen posters." he blushed as he rambled on.
Her humble and supportive nature brought a smile to his face "It's these acts of kindness that can make a big difference. Again, thank you. And thank you, Vertigo." he said as he took another bite out of his snack. "You said you were part of...P.R.O.F.I.T? I've never heard of it. What do you do as part of it?"

Seeing the young adult drink up one of her water bottles with utmost pleasure in his eyes, the CyberSagitamon could not help herself but smile and chuckle. Sometimes, it were the most trivial of things that caused the purest of joys to emerge; like some water after a trip through the desert. Cion found joy in having helped out with the new acquaintance's repose, always happy to help out a kind soul in need. Certainly, if the time ever came that she needed help, she could count on those that were good in her opinion, and Mr. Akiyama clearly was.
Not requiring anything to eat unlike him, she simply continued to lean back into her black leather seat, relishing the wonderful sensation on her fur and skin. Sturdy yet soft like a mattress, that was the way she liked it. Listening to her guest's tales, she often nodded quietly, waiting for him to finish. "Mechanical or semi-mechanical digimons often attain more fictional features in the eyes of humans upon reaching higher levels. But I get your point. Indeed, the digital world is quite a colorful hotchpotch, ain't it? Personally wish some ingredients were not so foul... but I'm working on fixing that." She calmly explained herself, her golden synthetic eyes slowly scanning the human in front of her as she savored her canned beverage.
"True..." She commented under her breath, recognizing that the adolescent boy was already pretty wise for his young age. Some people truly were early bloomers, were they not? In any case, his kind words once again made Vertigo chuckle, though this time much more audible than before. "Don't mention it, young sir. It's always a pleasure." He assured him, continuing his journey at ridiculous speeds.
A cocky smirk formed itself upon the vulpine digimon's lips and with her elbow she nudged a random spot on the cockpit's interior wall. "It's totally not like you don't care about the destination as long as you get to flight, isn't it darling?" She asked rhetorically, her smirk fading for a teasing grin. The AceJetmon only coughed in an attempt to clear his non-existent throat. "But madame Cion. How could you possibly accuse me of something like that?" He denied any allegations with nervous laughter in between words. The silver digimon sitting inside the cockpit only laughed briefly, stroking the same spot she had just nudged. "Don't worry; I did not say anything."
After this brief chaffing, Cion calmed down again and focused her attention back to the human sitting in front of her. "We're an organization that provides services when hired; and since we are excellent at what we are doing we expect an adequate pay. While some members are mostly working in self-interest, nothing wrong with that, I and others are trying to unify both benefiting the people of the world, and living with an excellent profit as so benefit ourselves or those we care about. Some are businessmen, some are mercenaries like me. I found it to be the best way to take care for my family and have fun and fulfillment at work." She took her time to explain, hopefully now making Toki truly understand everything he currently saw and experienced.
By now, they were miles and miles above the clouds in this Autumn afternoon, the stars above them almost visible through the blue haze that was the outer edge of the atmosphere.

Toki took another drink as he listened to Cion explain mechanical digimon and how varied the digital world could be for better or for worse "I've definitely seen a lot of interesting digimon during my stay here. It's exciting to see what kind I'll meet next." he said, a genuine, excited smile on his face, though it dropped when she mentioned some 'ingredients' that were foul. "I guess it's like that everywhere, huh? Human world or digital there are still bad people who hurt others for one reason or another. That's something I want to help with too. I want to protect innocents from those who would harm them or otherwise take advantage of them."
He seemed a little embarrassed when she agreed with him in regards to the acts of kindness. As he nervously sipped at his water, he heard Vertigo speak to him "You're both so humble. It's really nice to see." he said as he leaned back in his seat. While the two of them bantered, he took another bite out of the bread and chuckled lightly to himself "The two of you seem to get along very well. How long have you known each other?" he asked.
When Cion explained what the organization was, he nodded in understanding "So you go around wherever you can and do jobs for people for a reward? That's respectable." he said with a smile. "I know there are some who would say something like...how a truly good person helps people without any expectation of being compensated for their work...but that's an almost unrealistic ideal. Good person or not, everyone has to make a living. Making it from helping others is certainly not the worst thing in the world. Besides, you've proven to me that you're not just in this for the money."
Eventually he registered the fact that she said she taking care of her family "You have a family? What can you tell me about them?" he asked, very curious about what digimon consider to be their family, though he was insecure about asking that question, worried it was too personal for someone he had just met "Sorry if I'm asking something I shouldn't..."
As he waited for a response, Toki looked out the mirror and finally realized just how fast and high up they were in the sky. He leaned close to the glass and the wonder in his eyes was very apparent. Far, far down below was the desert he had struggled to pass through and to his amazement he could see the curvature of the world and what were miles previously looked so much smaller from up here. The speed Vertigo was going was incredible. The clouds below flicked by and the stars shined in their places above. It was humbling to him, almost meditative as he contemplated his place in the world.

So, the young man truly was an inquisitive fellow, was he not? The thirst for knowledge was one of the most admirable traits, so for Cion, it was simply another aspect about him that she liked. If she had not already seen so much over centuries of existence, then perhaps she'd share that curiosity. Alas, surprises were rare these days, unless she fought an opponent with an impetus that was not based on xenophobia against humans. That and perhaps the new types of ice cream, like energy drink and hamburger. She definitely wanted to try those, even if they sounded disgusting.
"A noble cause, one I share. Living as a blade; shielding those in need and cutting down those that impose their dark will upon others. It'd be better if it was not required at all, but... it's a fine way of living I'd say." She replied, suddenly having a better understanding of why Toki had undergone such a dangerous undertaking like crossing the desert by himself. He wanted to get strong and effectively help out others as fast as possible, which was why he pushed himself so far beyond his own limits. It was a sentiment she could relate to, but as she had said before, patience was a necessity for future success to occur at all.
The way young Mister Akiyama credited them for their humbleness put a visible, genuine smile on her lips. However... it was yet again another opening for her to tease the AceJetmon they were sitting in. "Vertigo is not humble; he cost me 24.000 bits." She commented, chuckling as she yet again nudged a spot of the interior of the cockpit. The mechanical digimon in return could only clear his throat, chuckling ever so nervously.
"I need to pay for the ace combat video games on Steam somehow; don't always wanna wait for sales. Besides, it's a lifelong contract as long as you want me in your service, and I happily follow wherever you need me to take out some baddies, or just for fun in case you need to get somewhere. Adding that to how convenient I am, I say I was sale of the century." He defended himself, carrying a playful tone to his synthetic voice. This of course made Cion chuckle and gently caress the console panel behind her. "You definetly were." The vulpine digimon replied with utmost sincerity, making Vertigo chuckle weakly.
As for Toki's question, Cion didn't actually have a straight answer. "We have signed contracts about a week ago..." She whispered as she suddenly got interrupted by the AceJetmon. "Since we first laid eyes upon each other, 2 hours, 47 minutes and 34 seconds had passed in which we were together and interacted." He informed them, making the CyberSagitamon nod in agreement, knowing that sounded about right. Then again, her being did not contain a quantum-computer, so he was probably right and not just bragging with supposed intelligence. "There ya go." She finished as she turned to the young man in front of her, hoping that this answer sufficed.
Listening to Toki's response to her tales of P.R.O.F.I.T., she was happy to see that he was not fanatically obsessed with altruism like she at times had been. "Absolute self-sacrifice is an absolute way to an early collapse. Working the way I do, with plenty of rest and looking out for my health, I can do a lot more good over an extended period of time, and also take care of myself, my family and my friends. I'd do it for free if I and those I care about could live from it, but... that's not reality. Besides... I don't expect you to compensate me, darling."
Her long speech ended on a positive note, the tone in her voice audibly benign. As she saw it, her guest was both someone in need and someone who had the potential to do so much good in the future. This knowledge alone was far more of a reward than she had ever expected; not to mention the friendship that appeared to blossom between them. "Thank you." The armored digimon expressed her appreciation with a relaxed stance of pride. Often, words of sincere kindness were the greatest balm for soul and mind, at least in her point of view.
In a humble way, her guest asked her about her family, and her laid-back attitude alone was telling everyone that she did not mind talking about them. Folding her hands together, she began. "Everything's fine dear. Ex-love and now brother Owen the Gaomon, his beloved Koharu the Dorumon who I still gotta meet, and their lovely kid who is my nephew Logan the Offmon. That's my family, not counting my dearest of friends. There are still many things that have to be done so establish ourselves as a real family, buying a house for example... but that still got some time." She told him calmly, figuring that this was a sufficient summary of everything.
Taking a moment of respite, she too looked out of the windows, a dreamy smile forming itself on her face. This view of the stars above them and entire countries beneath them; she was almost sad about the fact that it would become an ordinary sight in due time. But as her golden eyes shifted to Toki, she was content to see him so delighted by the view. She'd give him all the time he wanted to relish this moment.
And it would not take long before the desert beneath them faded into a steppe, and then into common grassland.

It took him a while to finally pry himself from that view to continue the conversation. "It's the kind of life I wouldn't mind living...but I still need time to find myself before I think about taking that step. Still I find myself overestimating what I'm capable of and right now I don't think I'm ready. But it's a journey I promised myself and Turuiemon that I would take. They want to find their totems...and feel complete again. It's exhilarating knowing that I can help them recover something so important. I'm excited to see the rest of their forms, but that's less important to me than their happiness." he glanced down at his D-Scanner and smiled.
He was visibly shocked at the cost she listed for Vertigo "That's...that sounds like a lot. I'm going to have to find a way to make some bits while I'm here..." he bit his lip, nervous at the idea of having to make money somehow. He muttered to himself and mused about how he could start here. Maybe Terminus had some odd jobs he could take. It wasn't anything he had any real experience in, after all.
Once again the banter between Vertigo and Cion was delightful to see "If it's any consolation, I think your contract together couldn't have been better. You two just work off each other so well, it's fun listening to you two talk." he said with a light-hearted chuckle. He scratched his chin slightly when Vertigo mentioned games and Steam "I can't say I'm very familiar with any of that...b-but I want to be. I never really had a chance to experience a lot of free time activities even though I've always wanted to. My karate practice always came first." he admitted, though there was a hint of hesitation when he mentions his martial upbringing.
"It seems like such a short time but you two seem so close already. You could have told me you were lifelong friends and I would have believed you." Toki always seemed to speak with a genuine, almost innocent sincerity. He did not seem like the kind of person to lie about his feelings towards other people.
"I'm glad because I honestly don't have much to offer you in return for your help." he said with a sigh "Taking care of yourself and those around you and doing good by the world is one of the best ways to make a living if you ask me. I'd rather it not be necessary to fight at all, but I know the pain and suffering people go through if good people don't do anything..." he touched the scar along the left side of his lip "Though it's sometimes hard to see the good. No one ever really came to my help when I was being harassed by this thug at school a couple of years ago. They all saw me as the tall scary guy who knew how to fight."
He decided to stop talking about that for now and focused on her gratitude. He smiled at her and visibly seemed excited when she mentioned Owen and Logan "Oh, I know them! They were some of the first I met here. Owen crashed into a tree in the Village of Beginnings not long after I met Logan and his partner, Tadao. They're all very nice. We all met when we were helping a young boy named Tetsu find his lost partner. You're very lucky to have them be so important to you, and they're in turn lucky to have you." he said, happy to think about them again.
Toki's spirits were certainly high now. This conversation was soothing and the view slowly changing beneath them was breathtaking. They had come so far in just a few short minutes. "I hope one day I'll have people who value my friendship and support the same way. That would be a dream come true for me."

Huh, it appeared she inspired the young man to continue aspire to be a paragon of sorts without being once again reckless in regards to his own health. In Cion's point of view, she could not fathom a better outcome, and it filled her with glee and contentment. And in his path, he'd help out the spirit that had joined forces with him, and in return it would help him do as much good as possible. There was no doubt in her eyes that her guests motivations were pure, and she wished them all the success in the world.
With her winning smile being the only response to his speech, she once again leaned into her chair when the subject at hand shifted to one of the greatest evils in the world; money. "There are always public service missions on city billboards. Just visit Terminus' central plaza for example if you are interested. It's what I did before P.R.O.F.I.T." Was the vulpine digimon's recommendation, certain it was an optimal start. The payment was sufficient enough to afford an apartment if a couple of tasks were completed, and one would do fine community work, like delivering goods to distant towns or removing war waste from the plains. Ultimately however, it was up to the young man.
As for Toki's compliment in regards to how well Cion and Vertigo were cooperating, both could not help themselves but chuckle with a sense of pride in their tone. "Oh you... thanks." They responded at the same time. A brief moment of awkwardness occurred before they shared a short yet genuine moment of laughter. That was why it was all the better that sir Akiyama could adapt to the light-hearted parts of their interactions. "Nothing we couldn't catch up on. Just gotta figure out how... later." The AceJetmon commented, actually looking forward to the idea of teaching an apprentice the way of gaming.
Getting an outside perspective of the relationship she and Vertigo shared was actually quite valuable in her eyes. And, as she so often was, the armored digimon was relieved to know that they appeared to truly do well together. It was not only the cost that she had in mind, but also the consequences of separating. Her partner was unique just like her, and it was absolutely true that he was at least as convenient as Daedalus, who was Colin and the twin's air-craft-digimon. It seemed... things were truly getting better, were they not?
Her spirit calming down again, he listened to Toki's tale about his past, one she was happy about to know him having surpassed. "Don't worry. I promise, I'm glad to help. And though I won't pass judgement on your experiences... often, personal experience is a great catalyst to strive for better." She argued, certain that her new acquaintance felt similarly. They both had hearts and minds guided by experience, and they would not let go to waste everything they had endured and accomplished. Neither would they sacrifice their well-being, but find an optimal compromise to attain happiness as well.
And there was one thing that certainly put a grin on her silver muzzle. "What are the odds?" She asked rhetorically, honestly astonished to realize that the human already knew Owen and Logan. There were many fantastic information she received from his insight, though it saddened her slightly that she had not know before. "That's sounds like Owy... though I did not know my nephew was bound to a digi-destined. Hmm..." Cion spoke a bit under her breath, clearly wondering what that would mean for their future plans. Would they just... leave her behind again? Well... she'd see if there was any point in the efforts of her personal life.
Still, she definitely needed to meet this Tadao, who was hopefully good to her nephew. Anyone who would waste the time and energy she put into him... she'd hurt them badly. However, Toki's next words put aside those gloomy thoughts and replaced them with cheerful wonder. "Oh, did they say that to you about me? Or... was that just your opinion? Did they even mention me?" Were the question that came to her mind, hoping for conclusive answers.
"I'm confident you will. And if you want... the two of us can be your first." She offered with a coltish smirk of delight, gently putting a gloved paw on his shoulder as she leaned forward. The three of them together at the edge of space, bantering like they had always been close friends. It was... pleasant, there was no doubt to that.

"Public service missions...okay, I'll have to keep my eye out for them then..." he said to himself and wondered what kind of job he would even be suited for. If it worked for Cion, then maybe it would work for him as well, though he would eventually have to move on to bigger jobs like she clearly had with P.R.O.F.I.T. However, that would come with experience, something that he didn't quite have yet. Even the smallest amount of help could make a difference.
He laughed heartily at the two of them speaking in unison, trying to stifle it when he realized the slight awkwardness of the moment. He beamed at Vertigo's offer to help him catch up on the world of gaming. Now he'd money for that too...but goals were good! He didn't feel as overwhelmed as he would have been a while back. "That sounds like fun, Vertigo. I hope you're okay with a complete beginner..." he said, a little nervous.
Cion's assurance that she was genuinely glad to help calmed him down a little "My personal experiences made talking with people...hard. I went through school without a single consistent friend because I either didn't have time or I was scared to approach anyone. Sure I'm getting better at it but sometimes I feel like I wasted a lot of my life..." this was definitely a topic he had a hard time talking about.
He listened to her talk about Owen and Logan and smiled at her when she questioned the odds "I suppose I just got really lucky." he said. He chuckled softly when she implied such incidents were common with Owen and her affectionate nickname for him, though noted her worry about Logan "Oh, Tadao is a great person and looked like he got along really well with Logan, though I understand if you'd like to see that yourself." there was a sadness about Cion right now that he didn't like to see, but he wouldn't pry. That would be rude.
When she asked him if they mentioned her, he shook his head "Oh, it was my opinion...b-but please don't blame them for that! There was a lot going on and we were helping someone find their lost partner like I said...a-a lot of stuff happened at once before we went our separate ways." he really didn't want to inadvertently create a rift between Cion and the others. He'd feel terrible.
Hopefully with that settled, he seemed extremely happy to hear that the two of them would be friends with him "I'd...I'd be really happy if you did. More than happy, even. I just hope that I'll be able to one day reach a point where I can fight alongside you."

Cion nodded quietly to her guest's statement of intention to take on some missions from Terminus' billboard to gain experience as a moral mercenary. It was an excellent way to start in her opinion, since one could both do good and earn a fair amount of bits that could easily sustain a living. That was likely mostly because living in the digital world was much cheaper than on Earth, but it still counted for something.
The CyberSagitamon at least did not perceive their moment of laughter as awkward at all. No, she savored it, and the AceJetmon was quick to follow. Anything that brought joy was something to be appreciated and enjoyed. if it was silly or not did not matter in their points of view, though they realized that it actually mattered to many others. And since they were already enjoying themselves, why not continue? "No problem at all, young sir. I'll teach you the ways of gaming." Vertigo responded in a clearly casual tone. He did not mind that Mr. Akiyama was a noob; he'd show him the ropes and then they would binge-game until dawn.
Unfortunately, the serenity faded for a short moment when Toki began to reveal more about the past and how he felt about himself. "Yes... I know the feeling of having wasted my time." Cion commented quietly yet with a very serious tone to her voice as she folded her arms, clearly drawn into her thoughts. She took her time trying to think about something that might help him, but honestly she had barely managed to help herself or let herself be helped. "Well... one can't help it anymore. Now, there is a decision. Keep on or surrender to your sorrow. The former seems more preferable, no?" She asked rhetorically, her way of speaking very soothing and compassionate. She understood him... and how difficult it was.
Listening to the young man, she at the least found relief in knowing that this human called Tadao took good care of little Logan. "But I trust your words as well." She assured him that she believed what he told her, though the wish to meet this new stranger did not weaken from that. It seemed Koharu was not the only mystery that had to be solved, which caused worries about the future to creep back into her system. The true placidness she had experienced for a while, it was tainted by concerns yet again.
And of course they could not have been bothered to mention her, although her new friend's words of kindness flattered her a little. "It's okay. Everything's fine." She calmly tried to settle the topic at hand, not really wishing to think about the truth of things. Mayhaps just the illusion of them having been busy was enough to put her spirit to rest. Yeah... helping out someone finding their partner sounded like a stressful situation, and mentioning the one digimon that had been part of your existence for so many centuries indeed was tricky to integrate into any conversation, was it not Owen? Gosh... she was starting with this again, was she not?
But... if she could not rely on others to do that, she could at least be a dear friend for them, and kind individuals like Toki seemed just like people who had earned another person's ear, so why not hers? "Great." Cion spoke with a smile, content that they were friends now. Letting go off him again, she once more leaned back into her black leather seat as Vertigo began dashing downwards through thick clouds. "Oh... I'm sure opportunities are already plenty." She hinted at things with a cute chuckle, confident that he could be of good help in any situation as long as he put his heart into it.

"Thankfully everything back home is steadily paid for..." he said, mostly to himself "The fact that time in the Human World passes so slowly here makes a lot of things...better on me. I know quiet places to go here for studying and I can't take more time on my reading and what I have to do." he was nothing if not practical in this approach. The time differences here have been amazing for him so far.
Vertigo's acceptance of his lack of game experience was a relief. "Awesome, looking forward to it, Vertigo." he smiled and was eager to start learning. For now though, he would enjoy the rest of this relaxing trip with his new friends. It was so comfortable despite the insane speeds they were flying at. Vertigo was amazing indeed.
He smiled slightly when Cion once again offered her insight and perspective on their shared experience. "You're right..." he nodded "Yes, definitely, you're right. Nothing will ever be done if I just give up now. There's something I can do...it would be an insult to everyone if I didn't act upon that...and even more of an insult to myself." he said and his scanner lit up slightly, as if Turuiemon was cheering him on as well.
Toki sighed, happy that for the moment everything was okay with her and the others. Still, there was something that seemed to bother Cion a bit, though Toki would respect her and not pry any further. These were things that seemed like they needed to be resolved personally, not through a third party. He hoped that they would meet sooner rather than later, however, instead of waiting too long.
Her assurance that everything was fine did little to ease him, but he nodded and put on his best smile. His mind drifted to that time. It was when he first Spirit Evolved "That was when I became a Spirit User. Turuiemon appeared to me when some Fanbeemon attacked me and Tetsu, the boy we were helping. I don't remember much after that...I heard the first time using your spirit is mentally exhausting and amnesia is common...but I remember fighting alongside Tetsu's partner vaguely...against a MadLeomon."
He tilted his head at her when she said there were probably plenty of opportunities to help already "Well, if you had anything in mind, please let me know and I'll keep them in mind." he said, wanting to know what he could possibly do at this point. It would make him feel better about himself at least.
