Finn was shocked to see his powerful attack get cast aside as easily as it had. Bellamy was finally getting serious. But that lead itself to a different question. Had he been holding back before? Had he still not been taking this battle seriously? True or not, Finn's rage reached a boiling point. A dark red aura began to surround him as he roared with red-hot anger. In the same moment, mint-green blades of energy sprouted from the Growlmon's forearm. With another mighty howl, Finn began to nose dive into the flames, allowing the blades to cut through the flames. He dove straight for Bellamy, fully intending to strike him with all his strength.
"I'll show you...who's not strong enough!"
"Coronamon, what's going on?" Marshal asked.
"No clue," Coronamon admitted. "I've never seen anything like this before. It's like he's gone berserk!" This battle was really testing Finn's limits, and not only his physical ones. It seemed the kid had some pent-up aggression he needed to work out.

Bellamy immediately recognized the strength of Finn's aura. He was going to attack, and make it hurt. For a moment, Bellamy wondered if this kind of energy could possibly help against Zanbamon's forces, but the next moment he realized this energy was aimed at him. In front of him was his son, a 12 foot giant that probably weighed a ton. And if the force of his attack hit him as a measly squishy magician, well, that wouldn't be good.
All at once, Bellamy remembered the purpose of this lesson. To either dissuade or prepare his son for the horrors of the Dark Area. With that, he turned to his partner.
"Colin!" he yelled, and Colin at once understood. This was an attack that would seriously hurt Bellamy if he remained in this form. So he had no choice but to bring him to the next. And so, he drew the blue card from his pocket, then struck it through his digivice. Before Finn could strike, Bellamy glowed.
"Flawizarmon digivolve to... Astamon!"
The evolution was completed before Finn struck, and Bellamy used his newly acquired flight ability to evade the attack at the last moment.
"Not bad, Finn" he told his son. "But... you're going to have to reach an even higher level than that".
Gaz meanwhile, still holding Coronamon's paw, recognized that this was a new point of the battle. For a moment, she had seen fear in her father's eyes. Perhaps... Finn had the potential in him?

Finn hit the ground with a gigantic thud, leaving a crater where Bellamy once stood. He looked up to see his father's Ultimate form looking down at him. With a sigh, the red aura he had displayed disappeared. "I didn't want to have to do this," he said, calmer now than he was a moment ago. Coronamon immediately recognized Finn's tone, and it didn't bode well. He turned to Gaz and the others. "I think we should all back up a fair distance. Things are about to get a bit...messy." Coronamon lead the others a distance away from the fight, knowing that things were about to get truly serious. Finn exhaled slowly and focused for a moment. "I was saving this until it was absolutely necessary. After all the lengths I went to to hide this from everyone...here it is!" Finn began to yell louder than before, and everyone would watch as he began to become bigger and bigger. Finally, the light of Digivolution exploded from the Growlmon's chest, much to the surprise of everyone in attendance. Coronamon recalled less than an hour ago when Finn had specifically told him that he was only capable of reaching the Champion level. Had he truly been hiding his true power from everyone? Or was he just pushing himself too far past his limit? "Growlmon Super Digivolve to...WarGrowlmon!"
At this point, it was a wonder that Finn and Bellamy even had room to fight. The giant armored dragon was taller than a good share of the buildings on Kongou Island at this point. He looked down at Astamon, who he now completely dwarfed. "I'm ready to continue, Dad," Finn said, noticably less angry. In fact, one could detect a hint of confidence or even bravado in his voice. He was proud of himself, and rightly so!

Bellamy gave a smile at Finn as he suspected what was about to happen. "Well, too bad, you're gonna have to do it if you go to the Dark Area" he said. He needed to see it with his own eyes, for Finn to show that he was strong enough for the journey.
Colin, Luke and Gaz took Coronamon's warning seriously, the three of them backing off along with him. "Geez, Bells, hope you know what you're doing" Luke said, the Fulminomon starting to get a bit unsure of just how intense this battle would be. If they seriously hurt each other, well, he didn't think Bellamy would be up for celebrating his engagement with Coronamon tonight.
Then, before their eyes, Finn evolved to Wargrowlmon-X. Bellamy kept a nervous looking grin on his face, yes this was fantastic! But... well, Finn was really big now, and those were nasty looking weapons on his arms. But still, the Astamon had to be ready, worse awaited him in the Dark Area.
"I'm proud of you, son" he said, also calmly. "Now let's train you up a bit!" he raised his gloved left hand and clicked his fingers. With a cry of "Darklight!" a torrent of what appeared to be a rush of black flames erupted from his hand, converging on Finn's body.
The dynamics of the battle had changed a little. With his son at Perfect, Bellamy was by now seriously thinking that further resisting his request was the wrong thing to do. And so instead of getting Finn to prove himself, perhaps this was the opportunity to teach him what laid ahead?

As Finn watched his father prepare his next attack, he noticed that he felt so much more aware of his surroundings. It seemed that his machine additions earned him heightened senses. Before the fire had even erupted from Astamon's hand, Finn had run the numbers and devised several countermeasures. As the stream of fire rocketed towards him, the Assault Balancer cable on his back shot towards a nearby bulding. In a flash, Finn zipped over to the side, pulled towards the building by the cable.
Coronamon still wasn't sure what to make of Finn at this point. It couldn't be possible that he had simply misspoken earlier, could it? There was something nagging, screaming in the back of his skull trying to tell him something, but he couldn't figure out what. He used his free hand to clutch his forehead, seemingly in pain. He didn't make a big deal out of it, though, in order to not freak out Marshal or Gaz.

Bellamy was surprised just how fast Finn moved in this form. He completely outpaced the dark flames and zipped to safety in the buildings nearby. The Astamon raised an eyebrow, then grinned a little.
"Clever, Finn" he said. "Ya dodged an attack I gotta wait to recharge, that's somethin' that'll keep you alive in real combat". However, his next move would use the WarGrowlmon-X's size against him. He made a big target, and big targets were easy prey to his Oro Salmon, so he thought.
Bellamy then raised the submachinegun, half of him hoping his son wouldn't be too hurt by his attack, the other half excited by the thrill of battle. Then with a snap of "Hellfire!" he opened fire, sending a storm of dark bullets at Finn in a heavy burst of fire.
Gaz meanwhile noticed that Coronamon seemed to be clutching his forehead. That was an odd enough reaction for the Gazimon to glance at him and ask "You okay, dad?"

This battle was starting to get more intense than Finn had originally intended. There was barely even time for him to speak, if he felt that he could expend any energy to do so. He was starting to worry that he was going to burn himself out if he pushed too hard, since he had never truly achieved this form before. Still, he had to press on anyway to prove that he could!
Bellamy prepared to launch a burst of submachinegun fire at Finn, who was still reeling backwards toward the building. There didn't seem to be a way for him to get out of the way in time, but he knew he had to finish the job as soon as he could. His mind raced with strategies until one that seemed the least bit feasible popped into his mind. At best, he'd eat a little damage but get a great counter. At worst, he wouldn't be durable enough to stick it out through Bellamy's attack and the battle would end here.
In one swift motion, Finn's Assault Balancer quickly retracted itself and shot out again at a point far past Bellamy. The cable latched itself into the ground and stretched itself out tightly. Once it got tight enough, it quickly launched Finn off the ground, facing away from the Hellfire bullets. Finn's mechanized armor met the bullets head on, peppering the metal plating and injuring him a bit. However, he just gritted his teeth and fought through the pain. If he could just hold on...!
Finally, once his sensors indicated that he was close enough to Bellamy, he released the tension on the cable and began to spin around. As he did this, the blades on his forearms began to dance with electricity as he brought them down on Bellamy. This was it! His all-out strategy! "Galvanized Slash!"
Coronamon, meanwhile, was not handling himself well. The splitting pain in his head finally caused him to black out for a short moment as he relived a memory of an age long past. There was a great battle in a jungle, long before he had met Impy in his restaurant in Terminus. He felt as though he could only watch as an old friend of his gave his life to defeat a powerful foe. In the heat of the moment, he pushed himself so far past his limit that he damaged his own Digi-Core beyond repair. He'd never be able to Digivolve again past that day, and his life span was dramatically shortened.
Coronamon snapped back to reality in an instant, before anyone even had a chance to notice. It seemed that another memory of his past life had returned to him. This one, it seemed, had a clear message. Coronamon looked to Marshal with a concerned expression, and the young man looked back and nodded with understanding. What the two would do in the next moments was only known to them.

Bellamy's green eyes widened as the Assault Balancer came rushing toward him. But its aim was off. Had Finn guessed he would evade in that direction? Or was he doing something else? This was answered when all of a sudden there was a giant cybernetic-enhanced red and white dragon rushing straight at him, electrified blade outstretched. Bellamy had to move, right now! This attack could slice him clean in two! He lunged at the ground, but the edge of Finn's blade struck him in his upper right arm, tearing through his coat and causing some data to seep out in a wound on the skin below. Furthermore, the electricity made him burn all over, muscles twitching from its effect. "Gah!" Bellamy yelped, but that was all he said. This was combat, no time to cry over a hit just yet. It was then that he realized he couldn't stand. Yes, Finn had been hurt in the attack too, but, he was definitely getting the upper hand. Still, there was more Bellamy had to teach him. He had to prepare him for the true horrors of the digital world. That was his duty as a father. His eyes were fixed on Finn with a stubborn determination, then he raised his gun again. "Savage Nightmare!" he snarled, and shot large dark energy bullets at him. If Bellamy couldn't move to dodge Finn's next attack, then he'd simply be too dangerous to approach. "Bellamy, No!" Luke yelled. This was his brother's strongest attack in this form. What... what was he thinking?! Instantly, the Fulminomon used his immense speed to interpose himself between Bellamy and Finn, crossing his arms in front of his face. The blue digizoid armor managed to dissipate most of the dark bullets, but those that hit his unarmored stomach, legs and forearms nearly knocked the wind out of him.
Still, he was a level higher than his brother, and could afford to take the hit. His blue eyes glared down from under his helmet.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" he snapped. "He's your son, Bellamy, you're meant to hold back!"
Bellamy realized all too suddenly that he had messed up badly. He lowered his gaze in shame, the intensity gone as he realized what he was doing.
"I'm... sorry" he muttered.
Colin bit his lip. There was something he noticed about his partner, something... dangerous. As an Impmon it could hardly be noticed. Colin had heard things about Virus attribute digimon, how they could be wild and chaotic, but Bellamy wasn't like that at all as a rookie, he was as docile and gentle as any Data or Vaccine attribute. But when he evolved and was pushed... well... that tended to change.

The Galvanized Slash had just managed to hit its mark! Bellamy would presumably be immobilized and wide open for an all-out attack. However, as Finn whipped around to face the Astamon, he was met with a sight he wasn't expecting. Bellamy had managed to raise his gun, fighting through the electricity, and shot a powerful attack. At once, the cannons on Finn's arms and chest began to glow. At the same time, that dark red aura from before returned, making the glow of his weapons even brighter. His Digi-Core was screaming in pain, but he had to make this count! "ATOMIC BLASTER!"Just as the Savage Nightmare was making its approach, a giant wave of pure red destructive energy shot out of every weapon on Finn's body. However, before the attack had a chance to impact, Uncle Luke stepped in and stopped Bellamy's attack, but did so before the Atomic Blaster had been let loose! This was bad! At least, it looked that way, until a pillar of fire shot in from the nearby area and stopped Finn's attack with ease. As the dust settled and an orb of fire disappeared, a familiar shape could be seen. "That's enough, Finn. We need to talk."If anyone looked over at Marshal, they'd notice him clutching his D-Arc tightly, shaken but relieved that he and Coronamon had reacted in time to not only evolve into Aldamon, but stop Finn's attack before it could seriously injure Luke or Bellamy.

To Bellamy's surprise, Finn immediately countered his strongest attack with his own - the Atomic Blaster hurtling straight at him. And with Luke in the way, his brother would be struck by two powerful Ultimate level attacks! For a moment he feared for his brother, but his fiance intervened too, blocking the attack before it struck Luke's back.
As he panted, the effects of the paralysis and the adrenaline wearing off, Bellamy slowly returned to his feet. But with the shock of the past few seconds, his will to fight had been abruptly cut off.
"Listen to me, brother" Luke said, sternly. This was how Bellamy knew he was serious, he'd only refer to the formal 'brother' if something was very wrong. "What do you hope to achieve by pushing yourself and Finn this far?"
"I want us to get ready for the Dark Area!" Bellamy snapped back, instantly remembering his purpose. "If we hold back, how the hell are we gonna be ready for the mission ahead?! We... we just gotta keep training!"
"Training does not involve flinging your strongest attacks at each other until the other submits" Luke said, not moved by this argument. "It's about building up your skills and power gradually, it can't be rushed. You could've seriously hurt Finn here, not only in body, but his digicore too".
Bellamy hung his head in shame once more. He had no words to this. Luke sighed, the Fulminomon approaching his brother and kneeling down, patting his shoulder.
"I know you're scared, Bells" he said. "And I know you're frightened that Finn coming with us would be another way for us to get hurt, but... we don't have to go right now" he pointed out. "Majiramon gave us all the time in the world, and... seriously, Bells, your son just evolved to Ultimate, aren't you proud of him?"
Bellamy took a moment to absorb all this. Yes, he was scared. Yes, that was causing him to act irrationally. And Luke had a point, it wasn't like they were leaving tomorrow. It was a problem to be solved, sure, but, there was time. And indeed, Finn had evolved two levels beyond what he had thought his son could reach so far.
"Yeah, I am proud of him" he admitted soon after.
"And he was totally kicking your ass too" Luke added, a hint of cheekiness in his voice.
"Ey, watch it..." Bellamy growled. But he got the point. With that, he looked over Luke's shoulder to his son. "Hey, Finn, want a moment of timeout?" he asked, thinking they should probably have a break, just to figure out where they were at.

Now that he was closer up, Aldamon could get a good look at Finn. The transformation to Ultimate had clearly been tough, as it seemed he had been gritting his teeth the whole time. His entire body seemed tense, whether it was just from the strain of Digivolving or the intensity of the battle was unclear.
"Tell me something," Aldamon said as he examined his son. "Were you capable of reaching Ultimate before now?"
"Well, I-" Finn started, but Aldamon was quick to interject.
"Don't lie to me, Finn. Just now, did you push yourself too hard to reach this form just so you could impress your father?" Aldamon didn't sound angry or upset, which was a little disconcerting.
Finn hung his head low and sighed. "Yes, I forced myself to go Ultimate." He was a little upset that he had been figured out so quickly, and that he was being scolded for doing as well as he had.
"I see," Aldamon nodded. "And when you reached it, how did you feel?"
"It was...hard," Finn recalled. "I could feel my Digicore heating up far past anything I had ever felt before."
"How do you feel now?" Aldamon asked without missing a beat.
Finn hadn't realized it, but since the battle had been halted, the pain he had felt previously was completely gone. For the first time since Digivolving, he let his whole body relax, nearly going limp as he sighed with relief. "I feel just fine, now."
Aldamon was honestly surprised, but he had expected something like this. Finn had acclimated to his newfound form so quickly after pushing himself in the first place. "Finn, ever since we've known you you've grown at a breakneck pace. You probably don't realize it, but you've achieved in just a few short months what it took me nearly a year to do."
Finn was shocked to hear such news, but he realized that he hadn't been around to see how quickly his fathers had developed. He had always known them as these ultra powerful Digimon, and wondered why he wasn't immediately able to match them. As it turned out, he was on track to do so sooner than they had thought! "Dad, I-" Finn began, but choked up a bit.
"I'm so proud of you, son."
With those words, Finn burst into tears, sobbing as his Digivolution broke and he returned to his Rookie form. Aldamon did the same and the two embraced.
"Just promise me you won't do this again," Coronamon added. "I don't think my heart can handle the worry. Take your next steps at your own pace."
"I will!" Finn blubbered.
Marshal looked on and smiled. Coronamon really was turning out to be a good parent for Finn! Hopefully this new development in their lives meant something substantial for them all.
After a moment to collect himself, Finn turned to Bellamy. "I'm tired," he confirmed. "We can fight again later if you want, but you'd better be ready 'cuz I won't hold back!" He gave his father a goofy grin, but something in Finn's eyes told everyone that he was serious.

While Luke and Bellamy had been talking, it seemed Aldamon and Finn were discussing something too. Neither of them heard, given the amount of attention each twin was giving the other, so they missed most of what was said.
It seemed both of them de-digivolved to Rookie, and so Bellamy did the same, staggering a bit as he de-digivolved back to Impmon. Luke did the same, returning to his Elecmon form. The spar was over.
"Heh, alright. We'll see" Bellamy answered Finn, walking over to him. "But... seriously, Finn, you don't have to prove anything else to me now. You worked hard and you got strong. Plus... don't worry, we ain't goin' to the dark area for a while now. And when we fight again, let's just keep it at the trainin' level, okay?"
Luke cleared his throat, giving his brother a stern look. "Oh, and, yeah... let's just fight at Champion at the hardest" the Impmon added. "But... heh, wow, I'm really proud of you, son" he added, giving the bigger digimon a warm hug.
Colin smiled at the display, but then a glint of light in the tropical jungle outside of the boundaries of the mansion grounds caught his eye. What... was that? He was fairly sure that it was something metal, but there shouldn't be anything like that in this area.
"Hey, guys, do you see that?" the boy asked, pointing. Luke and Bellamy turned and tried to see what he has pointing at, then Luke's eyes widened, the beast digimon's senses picking up something he hadn't been paying attention to before.
"Is that... a digimon?" he asked, approaching. It seemed it was, because it suddenly began moving. "Hey, wait!" Luke shouted, running at it.
"Luke, wait!" Colin called, rushing after him, card and D-Arc in hand. But it was too late. All Luke saw from here was the flash of a smile on a shining metal face before it then glowed with light, swinging mirrors around. Colin thought they were being attacked, so he grabbed Luke and ducked to the ground, but, it seemed the figure had simply disappeared.
"What was that?!" Bellamy asked, catching up to them. Colin let Luke stand back up, the Elecmon a little shaken by all this, then Colin looked at his D-Arc. It had received enough information to register what that was.
"...A Mercurymon" Colin stated.
"Oh... crap! They have the ability to teleport!" Luke exclaimed. "But... why was he...?" he turned to Bellamy with horror. "Was he spying on us?!"
This made Bellamy be quite still, eyes widened. "They saw..." he said. "No... oh no... Finn, Gaz..."
"Bells?" Colin asked, carefully.
"What if that was a spy for Zanbamon?!" Bellamy half shouted in panic. "He'd know... he'd know I have family".
The ramifications of this was slowly becoming known to Luke and Colin. This was bad.

Marshal whipped around to see what the commotion was about, but didn't even get a chance to see the spy with his own two eyes before they disappeared. "What just happened?" he asked, unable to keep up.
Bellamy was panicking, so Coronamon rushed to his side. "Hey, hey, now's not the time to panic," he said gently, his voice doing everything in its power to soothe the Impmon. "Finn just got done showing you how capable he is of taking care of himself. There's no reason for us to worry. We're about to take the fight directly to Zanbamon, anyway."
"Dad's right," Finn assured Bellamy. "No matter what, I'll keep getting stronger and protect Gaz! And I'll help her train, too!"
Deep down, Coronamon was just as freaked out and worried as Bellamy. However, sharing in the panic was not the way to handle things. He had to have faith in himself and his family at all times, good or bad! "What do you say we just focus on enjoying our night?"

Bellamy was calmed fairly quickly as Coronamon rushed to his side, realizing it was just his heightened worries about the dark area that was making him panic. And that was true. Finn had indeed demonstrated just how powerful he was. And, maybe if it came down to it, Gaz would be too.
“Yeah... you’re right, babe” Bellamy said, calming down at Coronamon’s comfort. He even ventured forth to kiss him on the cheek as a means of affection, if only to calm himself and make him realize that it wasn’t all going to be terrible.
Bellamy then smiled up at Finn, giving a thumbs up. “I’m sure you will, son” he grinned.
“And what am I, chopped liver?” Gaz drawled, pouting. “I’m sure I can protect myself against one of their goons thank you very much, just ‘cause I’m the youngest doesn’t mean I don’t got the toughness!”
“Eheh, okay, Gaz” Bellamy smiled at his daughter. And then Coronamon brought him back to earth (or the digital world equivalent) by mentioning they should just enjoy their night.
Yeah, he was right. After all, in the heat of the argument and the battle that followed, Bellamy realized that he had just proposed to Coronamon a few hours ago, hell, why were they even still out here?!
“So, guys, uh, if ya don’t mind, I think I’d like to spend some time with my fiancé now, thanks” Bellamy said to the others, then smiled at the orange lion that he loved, holding his hand, inviting him inside the manor to somewhere more private.
It should be fine. Colin and Marshal were here. And so was Luke, and Finn and Gaz, yeah, they could afford this moment of luxury.

Coronamon grinned as Bellamy took his hand and lead him back into the manor so they could enjoy the rest of their night. "Don't mind if I do," he muttered, giggling as they disappeared from the rest of the group. Getting alone time with Bellamy seemed to be a fleeting occurrence lately. Marshal smiled as his partner went off to do...whatever he did when he was alone with Bellamy. Seeing the two of them together as they ran off into the manor gave him a splash of inspiration, so he sat down at the piano that had been left just for him at the foyer. He motioned for the rest of the family to gather around at the piano, and began to play. After a short introduction, the words of an old jazz tune escaped his lips."Stars shining bright above you Night breezes seem to whisper I love you Birds singing in the sycamore tree Dream a little dream of me
Say night-ie night and kiss me Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me While I'm alone and blue as can be Dream a little dream of me
Stars fading but I linger on, dear Still craving your kiss I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear Just saying this
Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you But in your dreams whatever they be Dream a little dream of me~"As he played the piano interlude, Marshal thought about everything that had been going on in the past few months. There was a lot he had to worry about, but when he had music, all his troubles seemed to float away. It had always been that way, even when he had nobody. Now that he had a whole family of both humans and Digimon, he felt truly happy. As he finished the song, he continued straight into a jazz interlude, and looked out at everyone else. "Let's really celebrate, guys! Two of our favorite Digimon in the whole world are getting married, and we have a new addition to the family! Call everyone you know, we're throwing a party!" It might have seemed overzealous, but letting loose like this felt so rare for Marshal that he just had to do it! Hopefully the others would follow suit.
