The following day rolled around quickly. The morning sunlight shone through the gap in the blinds, warming the room with a bright glow. Then quite suddenly, the blinds were ripped apart, releasing the full shimmer of sunlight. Rie jumped up from the depths of covers, throwing a pillow across the room, still half asleep. Her hair a wild untamed mess as it always was in the morning. It took a few minutes for Rie to remember the events of the evening previous. “That doggy creature. It came and picked me, said I was a Chosen Child? Was it real or not,” Rie said to herself, confused. Rie looked up expecting to see her mother opening the shade to wake her up but instead saw Veemon, glaring at her. The odd creature now known as Veemon that had chosen to not stay in Rie’s room. Choosing to sleep in an airing cupboard alongside the clean white blankets and sheets. “You sleep too much. Things to do,” it said just as coldly as before. “You should get up at dawn.” Veemon curled his hand into a fist and punched the air. “You have to be tough. Tough. Otherwise, you’re worthless. Understood?” Rie tilted her head again, confused. “Tough, why is that. Little Doggy?” Veemon ignored this, sighing loudly before turned on his heel to leave the room. Shrugging, Rie smiled brightly and stepped out of bed. She quickly changed from her PJs to her school uniform and then began the arduous task of sorting her hair. It seemed to have a mind of its own and whatever she did to it, it refused to be tamed. After a full half, an hour had passed, Rie emerged from her bedroom. Veemon was waiting on the other side, his arms crossed. “Humans… always so slow.” Rie smiled at him. “Good Morning, Vee-kun! I hope you slept well!” Veemon just gave her a glare of distaste and moved away. It took another half an hour for her to make toast, eat it and to gather up her homework, books and other things needed for the day to come. “Okay, Vee-kun. I have to go to school, okay?! I promise I’ll be back in a few hours and then we’ll go play fetch or something okay?” Without waiting for a reply, Rie skipped to the door, opened it and had left ready for the day to come! She literally skipped up the road, excited about being able to get home again to see her new best buddy, Veemon. She was usually excited about the prospect of being at school and seeing all her friends but this felt oddly different, somehow. Soon enough, the tall, black steel school gates appeared in the distance. SmokeMarch

Nelson jolted upright, his eyes now wide, but wrought with exhaustion, as he glanced around. What was that noise? A phrase he was tired of thinking, at this point, but happened every time he found himself taking his eyes off of the little creature, it got into trouble. He located the monster, staring intently at the human, while his fist was in the wall. It had already created a sizable dent against the wall, thankfully, he seemed to be punching the part of the wall with the wooden frame, resulting in minimum damage. "Wh-why are you doing that!?" He asked, clutching his head, in a state of panic due to the chance of someone hearing this boxing session. The creature simply stared at him, before replying, in it's ever-childlike voice, "It was kinda hard, I wanna break it." It stated, quite matter-of-factually, before drawing it's other arm back, and focusing it's attention back on the wall. Nelson lunged forward, grabbing the creature by it's small round body, and yanking it away from the wall. Fortunately, it's compact size made it easy to move it around, at least. "Listen, we're going to a school now, can you please not... Punch anyone? or anything?" the boy pleaded, holding the ball, out of punching range of himself or the wall. The creature stayed absolutely silent, staring blankly at Nelson.
Nelson then jumped, at the noise of one of the supervisors coming towards his room, and he stuffed the creature into his backpack, with a binder and some other choice necessities, his earphones, his music player, his weird toy thing that came with his ball creature, everything seemed to be in place, and there was no way he could leave the little guy unsupervised. It wasn't long before he was walking with his designated group, towards the school. Along the way, he thought of something, and spoke to his backpack, "Hey... we don't know each other's names, do we?" he glanced back, as he heard some shifting inside, indicating movement, "That doesn't really matter." Was the monotone response. Nelson continued, regardless, "Well, my name's Nelson Cedotal, and... I like listening to music." He said, replied by silence, before the creature inside of his bag seemed to feel obligated to talk. "I'm a small Mamemon, so I guess I'm Smamemon. I wanna be strong." "Hmm, Mame is japanese for bean, right? What if I call you small bean?" "Don't." "oh. okay." This was nice, the two were actually speaking to each other, now, absolutely more than they have previously, "Well, Smamemon, try to not get in too much trouble." Nelson asked, more formally, this time. Smamemon didn't respond, as it was busy peeking through the zipper of the bag, watching a girl enter the school.

As soon as Rie reached the cast iron gates. A gaggle of her classmate friends gathered around her, like a bunch of cats to milk. “Good morning everyone!” Rie called, a flash of excitement filling every patch of her bright smiled face. This was quickly followed by a cluck of other greetings, how are you and what did you do last night.
While Rie might be a ditsy airhead but she wasn’t about to reveal the fact that she obtained a ‘Digivice’ and later was found by her very own partner Digimon. Rie just smiled and replied that it had been nothing special. Just another day. At that moment, the girl who sits in front of Rie nudged her way into the circle, patting the other girl on the arm. “Didn’t we need to go up to the club room?”
“Oh right, yeah. Sorry, Rie-chan. We’ll see you later,” the girl said, quickly, leaving the circle before spinning back and opening Rie’s hand and then closing it again. “Bye!” They ran off together through the gates and into the entrance hall. Soon after the rest of Rie’s friends left too, leaving her alone with a hand full of brightly wrapped sweets. She smiled, quickly pocketing the candy before heading through the gates herself. Although, she couldn’t help but wonder how her new best pal, blue doggy was doing? Maybe he was at home brooding or whatever he did every day? Shrugging, she hiked up her scarf over her bright red nose and mouth, hiding the chilled breath that could be clearly seen in the cold morning air. Rie had stopped short to do this allowed a lot of the students to catch up to her or pass her on their way through.
Quite suddenly, however. Rie jumped, hearing a sound of heavy footsteps behind her. Turning, she found an unfamiliar student standing before her.“Oh! Good Morning!” She said brightly, bowing her head slightly in respect.

The boy was busy examining the school, before he realized a girl was speaking to him. He visibly started, jerking his head upright. His headphones fell loose, and he found himself scrambling to catch them, "Ah... Hey! Hi! Good morning!" He mumbled, before shouting his response, just a bit too loudly, before he stared at her, for some time, then realizing it was getting awkward, so he spun around, "Well, I've gotta get to... whatever my group's doing today."
As the boy started walking away, the briefest glimpse of a round, black eye could be spotted, in between the teeth of the zipper. Nelson knew absolutely no one here, and therefore did his best to do what he always did: Stay out of sight. A voice chirped from his bag: "That was rude." Smamemon stated, monotonous as ever. "She was a stranger, I don't do well with strangers." Nelson tried to justify himself, but still admitted, only to himself, that Smamemon had a point. "You don't do well with anyone." Smamemon stated, brutally honest as ever.
Nelson instinctively patted at his pocket, where this strange device, the "Crass Ladder", was located. He was still unsure on the details, but it could, for a fact, contain his creature for long periods of time, but Smamemon seemed to hate it, so regardless, he had little incentive to do so. He had also heard it could fuse things together, or something like that. He guessed it was some german invention, from the name, but he wasn't sure. Smamemon didn't seem to recognize the thing, either, so they both seemed to be in the same position.
Speaking of, his tiny friend was oddly quiet now, his scathing remarks seemed to stop. He glanced backwards, before freezing. Already!? He expected trouble, but this soon!? His backpack was open, with a suspicious lack of a bowling-ball-shaped and incredibly condescending boxing monster. Meanwhile, outside, close to the girl, a loud "Tump." could be heard, sounding like someone dropped something heavy and very hard onto the grass, from one of the windows.
The object was buried halfway into the dirt of the small field, and long appendages stuck out from either side, with red bulbous ends, and shorter parts sticking upwards. The long appendages retracted, placing it's bulbs on the ground, lifting itself out of the dirt. It rolled it's body, before landing on the top, shorter limbs, which revealed themselves to be tiny little feet. The thing's blank expression stared at her, it's tiny little grin completely reserved and taciturn. Hardly a moment later, the same boy from earlier burst out from the front doors of the school, scooping up the thing with almost impossible speed, and speaking at a similar rate. "Ah,don'tmindthistoy,it'sgotthisweirdWALKINGfunction,Ican'tseemtoturnitoff,it'sthewierdestthing, wellIgottago, seeya!" He said, hardly pausing to breath, despite visibly sweating from an effort, as he stuffed the ball-being into his bag, and turning around, taking his leave.

“Good Morning!!” Rie called excitedly as the boy drew closer. He seemed to start having not expected the girl to turn and to shout excitedly. The boy was perhaps a little older than her with a cut of short black hair. His face seemed to be as red as her own due to the cold weather or maybe just in general.
After a minute of awkward conversation and shuffling, the boy spun on the stop and away from Rie. After mumbling about needing to go, he began to walk away. Rie smiled and watched him away, a little bemused by this behavior. “Hope you have a really good day!” Rie called after him waving happily at what she might be able to call a new friend.
Stuffing her hands back into the pockets, hopefully, to keep warm – Rie walked back through the gates and up towards the school. She was again stopped by another group of familiar girls from one of her classes who again, doted on her like Rie was family, dropped a candy into her hand and then walked away towards the school. This happened two more times until Rie drew finally to the doors which led into the school. That was when it got a little… odd. Something dropped like a stone in water from an upstairs window into a field around the corner. The aftershock caused Rie to look up in confusion. Was the sky falling? Or was this a silly funny prank? Rie turned her head slowly around the corner to take a look. Catching sight of what had caused the boom. It was small and round, silver in color. Like a kind of ball used in a sport, she didn’t know the name of. “It was a prank, after all. That’s funny” she started, giggling to herself before looking up at an open window above. In the second she looked up, the ball rolled over all on its own accord. Looking back down, she saw it and her head began to tilt to the left.
“Woah!” That was the only thing she could say. At that very second, the same boy as before ran in at top speed, spinning Rie around and almost knocking her over with his haste. He said something at a similar rate, something about how his you wouldn’t turn off. He swung an arm out and catch the ball creature in one hand before stuffing it back into his bag. She watched him, very interested. Trying to decide on how best to ask her question. “Is that like a Veemon,” she asked, her head still tilted like a confused cat. Her finger pointing straight at the bag still clutched in the boy’s hand.

He stopped, glancing around, showing a genuinely confused eyebrow raise. "What's a Veemon? Some kind of toy?" he asked, stopping in his tracks, and looking back, at the girl. "I'm a Smamemon." a childlike voice emerged from his bag, as one of the sphere's limbs poked it's way through the bag, followed by one of it's eyes, "Veemon are pretty strong. I wanna fight one." it stated, obviously speaking in a self-aware way. The boy froze, his illusion shattered, before he realized something. "Wait, do you mean, like, a weird monster thing?" He risked asking, as he realized both the name Smamemon and Veemon ended the same way, indicating some form of similarity, as well as the fact that Smamemon recognized the word. "...Then... Sure, I guess, they might be similar." He realized, aloud. He had already forgotten how he wasn't the only person with some form of monster, as he had already met others with similar monsters. Could this be another?
As these thoughts swirled around in his head, he was maintaining an awkward stare directly at the girl. He shook himself out of it, after catching himself staring, before Smamemon spoke, again, "Do you know a Veemon? I wanna fight one." It repeated, now out of the bag and staring directly at the girl. "Hey! Stop that!" He yelled, going to grab the digimon, once again, before the rookie level turned around and punched him in the nose, sending him staggering backwards before he toppled on his back, clutching his nose and muttering "Ow!" consecutively.

“Vee-kun is my doggy!” She exclaimed, loud and clear. “Not a toy,” she let out a tiny titter at the idea of Veemon being nothing more than something to be played with. At that moment, a voice erupted from the confines of the bag. Rie tilted her head slightly and moved closer to take a better look at the bag. An arm, as well as an eye, appeared in the gap between the hood and the bag itself. It seemed for some reason to want to ‘fight’ with Veemon because he was ‘pretty strong’.“Your ‘bagmon’ sounds silly,” she giggled. “We don’t battle. We’re buddies, best pals...” Meanwhile many miles away, back at Rie’s apartment. Veemon, now alone was grumpily tracking backward and forwards on the carpet which lay from the front door all the way to the patio. “How could she just leave me here. What a rude little human. Why did I get such a...a...annoying partner.” He continued to grumble as he walked, his arms crossed behind his back and eyes closed.
“I, a Digimon. Stuck in the home of some miserable human. No more.” he walked over to the glass of the patio door and pulled an arm back. Just as he drew back, something beeped on the table to one side of the room. “Huh. The Xros Loader. It’s activated.” On the table, the small device had lit up. The once blank screen was showing a large green and blue globe. Veemon lifted it and took a closer look, on his touch alone, the globe began to zoom. Until a red dot focused over Shibuya and then the very apartment, he sat in. “Hmmm,” he said, a small grin appearing across his taut face. Another touch on the screen caused a second dot appeared in the distance. “There...she is.” Rie, unaware of all this, watched with a mix of confusion and joy. The ‘bagmon’ jumped up and then began to punch its own friend in the nose. The boy toppled, clutching his nose. “Are you okay?” Rie asked innocently, her eyes wide and interested. “Why do you want to battle with my doggy?”

Nelson sat up, rubbing his nose, "Please don't take it personally, he wants to punch everything." He explained, he was already standing up, surprising, considering his frame, but it seemed this was something he was used to by now, "Speaking of... Can you PLEASE stop punching me?" He asked Smamemon, already seeming to forget his pain, and just starting to become exasperated. "Make me." Smamemon replied, as bluntly as verbally possible in the English language.
Nelson just sighed, "Listen, he'll eventually leave you alone if nothing ends up happening, so let's just go about our day and pretend nothing's wrong. Smamemon will lose interest." He insisted, as Smamemon continued to stare at the girl, "You're wrong. Digimon fight to get strong." It stated, finally responding to virtually anything from Rie, "I'm strong. But I can be stronger. I wanna fight strong things." It explained, it's childlike voice completely unlike it's violent tendencies, "Bring Doggy here." It ordered, it's tone obviously trying to be reasonable, but it's actual words completely saying the opposite, assuming Doggy was the Veemon's name, and that she ended the names of digimon with "Kun" for some reason.
