Crystal Pioneering [Closed, 3/3]

The mystery of the crystal pillar and the strange evolution put to one side for now, the party would continue searching for signs of life here in the silent setting. Walking in his Teslamon form, Luke's hearing was slightly better than it was as a rookie, and an eerie feeling set the fur on the back of his neck up. He could hear the breeze howling across the strange crystals, but, could also swear he heard the sound of faint whispering. What was it? Was it real? Or was his mind just playing tricks on him?
Before long, they did find something curious. Almost invisible from being covered with the glistening white salty sand, there seemed to be something bronze fixed in the ground. Colin, Luke and Brad brushed the sand away until they could see that it seemed to be a marker of some kind.
"That's an arrow..." Colin said. "And it's pointing that way" he pointed to the mountains in the distance. "Maybe there'll be a hint of something there?".
Supposing that was their best lead, they would continue to walk through the cold, dry desert. Eventually as they neared the mountains, the sand seemed to form small hills and dunes, not too high, simply gentle slopes. The winds on the other side of the mountains could now be heard - the tall rocky faces protecting this area from the blizzards of the North and the desert winds of the West.
Eventually, as they crossed the peak of another dune, Colin gasped and stopped at the sight of what was on the other side.
"Whoa..." he breathed, as he saw what appeared to be a large, derelict village, half buried in the salty sand. It had a distinct faded rust color, as though it had been sitting here for many, many years. But, there didn't appear to be a single digimon here.
"Well... nothin' for it than to check it out I guess" Bellamy said, glad to have finally come across something. He would then walk down the dune and toward the derelict village.

The group would continue its journey through the desert, finding nothing but an endless expanse of sand and wind, plus... some pretty strange noises accompanied with it.
Mana didn't think about them all that much, especially she had to face Colin and the group's discovery soon enough! "Well, it seems that there's at least something somewhere! Maybe we're close? Let's find out!"
Ayaka and Suzuran exchanged glances, but said nothing at the discovery. It was... interesting, especially considering that the existence of this place was unheard of until very recently. Maybe they'd stumble into an ancient civilization or something of the like? That was definitely worth investigating.
And so they did. Eventually, as the group neared the mountains, the group would reach a village that seemed to be pretty much abandoned. Some gasp of awe coming from the redhead ensued as they gazed towards there, expressions that mixed surprise and curiosity
"This is a pretty interesting finding." Ayaka finally remarked, somewhat wary of this situation. Wasn't it just too convenient? "We are going to end up investigating this please, but I urge you to be careful about it. Who knows what we may find. And whether it will be safe for us or not."
Having said that, they had a new place to check out!

No... if Luke had voiced his concerns, Cion would have stated feeling similar omens. It was difficult to put into words, but it was akin to a 6th sense that foretold danger and mystery. In the end it was of no big concern however, for they eventually found a literal sign which directed them towards a particular direction. Folding her arms, the Arnamon wondered why exactly it was that a bronze arrow got stuck in this zinc white dessert, but unfortunately no conclusive theory came to mind - at least not until the entire group arrived to behold its purpose.
After traversing many dunes, hills and valleys alike, protected by eternal mountains lied ironically a ghost town, ancient and forgotten. Naturally, lots of questions of curiosity and wonder appeared within the silver fennec's thoughts, but again there were no definitive answers. Yet as Bellamy declared they would investigate these amber ruins for all that they worth. Nodding at Ayaka's suggestion to keep up their guard, Cion followed quietly, often tilting her head and ears as to locate sources of unusual noise.
"Gosh... If Owen and Randy could see this..." She uttered under her breath, certain the sight would restore fractions of their memory. After all, their first encounter in her previous life had been almost the same, if much more... overgrown.

As they approached the ruined town, the air seemed to get more and more thick. Whether that was due to them being closer to the mountains that bordered the shining sea or something more than that, it was not known. But soon they entered, and the sight in front of them was breathtaking. "Oh wow..." Luke remarked, his blue eyes scanning what was in front of him. It looked something like a small town in Japan, only lifeless, covered with white sand, and looking like all life had been ended one day with no warning. There were no digimon here, but he could smell the scent of those that had been here, decayed over possibly hundreds of years. "Dad... what... is this place?" Gaz asked, the bratty Gazimon rendered stunned by what she saw. "I dunno, Gaz" Bellamy replied. "But... looks like somewhere that's... had some real bad luck". That was all the Impmon could take of here. No life, no clues, just an empty shell of what once seemed to be a digimon village.
"I'll take a look around" Luke said, the Teslamon then poking his head into buildings on what seemed to be the village center. What he saw was nothing he didn't expect. Empty, decrepit buildings, crystalline white sand everywhere. Yet some of what he saw seemed to be as advanced as the technology of Terminus City. Even if it was worn and old. He returned to the group after looking into three buildings. "This place... I think something bad happened here" he concluded. "But at the same time, something significant. Should we investigate further do you think? Or should we mark this place down for a proper excursion later?"
Luke meanwhile overheard Cion's words. "Owen and... Randy?" he repeated. Yes, he knew Owen, but, that other person, Randy... that was a name he felt that he should know but didn't. He glanced down at Bellamy, who shared his confused expression. Either way, it probably wasn't important enough to delay them here.
"Well, should we press further?" Colin asked hesitantly.

Well, wasn't this an interesting place? Even Suzuran's usually reserved demeanor seemed to sparkle a bit in curiosity at the scene that began to unfold in front of them; it was truly amazing how, apparently, a whole civilization had been exposed.
She began to traverse the apparently deserted expanse, as if searching for signs of any living being, or at least of something that could give her more clues about what had been the grim fate that this place.
Funnily enough, the question that Mana was to ask at such an impressive sight had already been asked by Gaz, making her just stare ahead, equal parts in awe and confusion. "Wonder what happened in this place..."
However, the question posed by Colin had real significance. Both Mana and Ayaka turned, Suzuran already being somewhat far from them. "I'm not sure. This place probably needs a more specialized team in order to be properly analyzed, but that doesn't mean we can't give a preliminary look, don't we?" However, doubt was quite obvious in her voice. "Suzuran has already taken the lead, but I can probably convince her to come back if you all think it's for the best to withdraw for now and to come back later. What do you say?"

Real bad luck? Well... that was one way to put it. Cion, despite her grace and goodwill, was usually not someone who beat around the bush, but she also carried enough sympathy for the kid to comprehend whence Bellamy's choice of words came. Euphemism were often utilized to grant the juvenile insight into bleak concepts without overburdening them. Then again, an opinion not too many shared with the Arnamon, death in the digital world, unlike Earth (although opinions differ), is not a permanent state of nonexistence, hence not too grim of an idea. There was always another shot at life... with greatly varying cards dealt though.
In any case, the silver fennec too took a good look at the eastern-looking buildings, letting Luke have his brief investigation. As for the Elecmon's first question, all she could respond with was a simple shrug. She honestly was not experienced in the profession of explorer. Throughout her existences, she had served as a sentinel of various types, but seldom a researcher, She was scintillatingly witty, but not very erudite, which was bizarre considering her at times vocabulary-wise of expressing herself.
As for her treasured friend's second question, Cion was naturally not surprised to hear that Randy was unknown to him and the other members of the likable trio. There had been plenty of coincidences already, so expecting familiarity once more was a bit fatuitous. "Another companion from old times with memory lapse." She answered, however not with a tone discouragement in her voice. Far from it - the Arniomon seemed rather confident and determined in her stance. And why not? After all, she had already successfully broken the ice. The rest was merely chipping away at it one piece at a time. Still, her f... fated total recall remained... annoying sometimes.
With respect to Colin's suggestion, the tiny vulpine mercenary nodded with similar fervor. In her eyes, they were skilled and powerful enough to face any danger - if there was one in the first place - so why not get some enjoyment out of this adventure?

Mana made a valid observation, that they would probably need a more specialized team to properly examine this place. Colin glanced around at the group, yes, he was sure that he, Mana and Cion could be able to handle things, but, they had brought Gaz and Brad with them, and Colin definitely didn't want their lives to be put at risk here.
"For now, I reckon we should mark this place down, just make initial observations, then leave and come back later" Colin said. He nodded at Mana. "Yeah, I think you should call Suzuran back if that's okay" he turned to his own partner. "Luke! We're about to head back now".
Colin's decision was mainly from the fact that things were happening here beyond his understanding. Namely that Luke and Suzuran had digivolved without conscious use of their partners' digivices. To him, that was a real warning that they shouldn't go too far down the rabbit hole and should probably head back to Kongou Island in order to make a proper expedition of this area. But still... a village lost to time, here in a hidden area of the digital world, full of strange powered crystals. This was too important of a thing to forget about.
Luke and Bellamy meanwhile pondered a little on the significance of this 'Randy' individual. Would they encounter him? It was a little puzzling to consider lives of digimon that had been reconfigured.
Ultimately, for now, the group would probably be best to explore this place no further. "If it's okay with you guys, I'll call Daedalus to pick us up here" Colin said to the others, readying his digivice to communicate with his mercenary. Yes, it was unfortunate, but, perhaps they would return one day to explore the nature of this place properly.

It seemed that being cautious about it had won over the rush of adventure, at least for now. Mana had to say that exploring an unknown civilization was alluring in its own way, but that it also could be pretty dangerous for the unprepared. Besides, Mana knew for sure they didn't have the equipment to the adequate work in here without possibly damaging the history of the Digital World. And no one wanted that, right? Well, except maybe Suzuran.
"Okay, got it." The redhead nodded. "Ayaka, wanna pick your sis? I think you'll be able to convince her more easily."
After an affirmative gesture, the fairy disappeared into the distance. "That should take care of it." She finished with a smile. "They should be back by the time Daedalus arrives."
There wasn't much left to do, right? Besides just waiting for the airship/digimon to arrive; returning here would indeed be an interesting venture.

"Oh... okay then." Cion let out with a strong hint of surprise and letdown in her voice. She had truly been looking forward to explore this mysterious area together with the trio and Mana and her partners, but it appeared that Colin had a different approach in mind. All they would do would be a superficial examination of the ruins, and then they would mark the location for PROFIT to investigate with a bigger squad and appropriate tools. Of course it was a smart decision, but the delay it incurred was a bit disheartening. Yet as a team player she accepted this consensus, her fervor still lingering for the expedition in the future.
Naturally, if they were to leave, she appreciated being picked up by Daedalus to get out of here. Tapping thrice on the minuscule earphone, she informed her partner Vertigo to return as well, though it was likely he was simply going to fly circles around the large battleship that was Colin's hired support. Folding her arms, the Arniomon sighed, trying to spin their current situation in the most positive light as to motivate everyone to give it their all once more in the near future.
"Boi... we discovered a lost civilization. Quite a big deal, ain't it?" She asked rhetorically, showing excitement for the mysteries and potential treasures that awaited them. Riches, unknown technology, valuable information? The possibilities were endless, and similarly so was their pleasant anticipation supposed to be. Still... the only thing for them to do now was to wait for their rides to pick them up. Small talk time it was then! "So... shall I cook lunch or do we wine and dine somewhere fancy to celebrate our discovery?"

Bellamy and Gaz would have agreed with Cion's disappointment. A strange abandoned village, it would be such a great thing to explore. But Bellamy supposed his partner was right, going too far in to explore something, especially with his daughter nearby, well, he didn't want something to happen to her.
Brad meanwhile took a closer look at the weathered ruins. The Bearmon wondered if digimon alone had made this place. He touched a metal frame of a long broken structure. It looked very well made. Not pure Chrome Digizoid, but an alloy that seemed to hold true to the trials of time. Brad then closed his eyes for a moment and remembered something... a similar type of metal he had encountered once, but, not on a structure, but a machine. One designed for war.
The vision disappeared as quickly as it had come. He blinked for a moment, but showed no outward sign of what he had saw, other than spacing out for a little moment.
Colin meanwhile agreed with Cion that it was indeed a significant discovery. "Yeah. We should return here quickly though, you know, before anyone else can come and see this place" he said. There definitely shouldn't be a delay after all.
Should they cook here? "Hmm... well, I wouldn't say no to something quick" Brad said. "If not, I'm happy to wait until we go to Snowflake Village and have something at the inn there" he smiled.

There was an air of disappointment in the atmosphere, that was for sure; Cion seemed to have been almost giddy to explore this place, but cool heads and being cautious had prevailed over. That was something that Mana could agree upon, and something she was glad Colin agreed with.
"I mean, it's still a pretty great discovery, and not one that will go anywhere, right?" Mana said, trying to keep the atmosphere upbeat. It was a pretty meaningful thing to do, and the repercussions would probably carry on for a long while, considering that the implications the strange crystals they found had.
She was fine on whether to eat now or later at snowflake, and while she nodded at Cion's offer just because she knew the digimon's cooking was nothing short of amazing, it didn't make much difference for the girl.
Still, while they decided, two small figures could be seen at the distance, prompting the girl to smile. "Oh, it seems like there they are! Just in time, it seems. With any luck, Suzu won't be too annoyed at this development."
Least to say, they wouldn't know about that until a bit.
