The Daedalus Expedition I [Mars/Elliot/Cion]

Marshal opened his eyes. At least, he thought he did. Everything around him was pitch-black, it was almost like he had gone blind. As he tried to stand up, he found that every movement he made felt forced, almost pained somehow. To him, it felt like there was a much longer delay between his brain and his body than what was considered normal. He tried to speak, but no sound escaped his throat. He wanted so badly to reach out to Coronamon—to anyone that would help him—but in this moment he felt more powerless than ever before. What had become of him?
Outwardly, Apollomon was annoyed to find that his fist merely passed through Barbamon. If the enemy was not within striking range, what was he to do? Clearly still enraged, the dark Biomerge whipped around the area, not even noticing his comrades' presence. However, he would notice the healing power of BlackJupitermon and Arniomon's combined efforts. The Light of Europa washed over him with a wave of divine energy, but the effect it had on Apollomon was absolutely not as intended.
Apollomon roared in agony as the holy light attempted to heal him, but instead it caused him to convulse and writhe in pain. Without warning, an inferno of black flames exploded out of the beast and around the battlefield. This had the potential to harm his comrades if they were not careful!
Apollomon (?) uses Corrosive Firestorm: Sets the battlefield alight with black flames that damage all digimon that are not Dragon's Roar or Nightmare Soldier. Also increases the power of fire and dark elemental attacks by 30%. Lasts for 3 turns. 3 post cooldown.

Any relief that came from the healing directed at Coronamon was quashed by how violently Coronamon reacted to it. He let out a pained roar, and immediately Elliot felt his expression droop from worry. He moved to take a step forward, reaching out to his tormented ally. "I am sorry," he said, trying to approach to the poor, writhing thing. "We did not mean to harm. Please, let us help y-"
It was too late, and in the worst possible way. A raging inferno burst forth from Coronamon's back, which presented several problems for Elliot.
The first was that he had been brought back to the Tundra, on a day that felt like it was forever ago. The Myotismon that had been questing to make Shi's life miserable had exploded into a furious burst of dark energy, and Elliot had taken the full force of the blow while trying to intervene. He could feel his chest burn from the grievous wound, as if it hadn't been healed during those many months. He looked down at his chest, and while he saw no purple mark he could still feel his chest tighten in agony. As he looked up again he saw the flames rush towards him, Myotismon glaring daggers from their epicenter. He tried to run, but his feet felt like they were concrete. He tried to block them, but his arms were almost glued to his sides. All he could do was stand there in horror as whatever happened, happened.
That lead to the second problem. Namely, that Elliot was an unarmored champion, and Coronamon was currently a Super Mega lashing out with all of its might. While the attack would be unpleasant yet manageable for the others on the battlefield, for Elliot it would be overwhelming. He could feel the heat singe his feathers as soon as Coronamon even started sparking, and as the flames shot out the force of their approach almost sent him sprawling before they could reach him. The peaceful barrier that perpetually surrounded MagnaAngemon, normally a thin matrix of light, exploded into luminous shards as the flames came rushing in, and Elliot couldn't even process how much pain he was in before his body forced him to black out.
It was likely intervention would arrive. Colin, Luke, Bellamy, and Cion were stalwart allies. However, with how little warning there was before Coronamon's assault, it was likely they would find Elliot left in very bad shape. Peals of shadowflame still danced across his robe, their black embers mixed in with red pixels of data as they drifted into the air.

Colin, Luke and Bellamy watched from their combined form as BlackJupitermon as their attempt at healing closed in on Apollomon. Their efforts were joined by Cion, who added her own healing technique in the attempt. Surely this would be able to heal the damage done from this virus? That the sickness and madness that had overcome Coronamon would be healed? Unfortunately, it had not. If anything, it seemed their attempts at healing were actually damaging him. How could this be?! Their Light of Europa technique was meant to heal wounds, not harm. But... did this mean... Apollomon was truly lost? "No..." the part of BlackJupitermon that was Bellamy whimpered. If this failed... was everything truly lost? The sight of Barbamon sneering with delight was too much. He struggled to keep his part in the biomerge, but all attention was immediately drawn to Apollomon's next move, which was to send forth a wave of black flames all over the battlefield. At once their thoughts were drawn toward the most vulnerable of their party. Elliot surely couldn't stand much of this onslaught. BlackJupitermon flew to him at once. He had at least survived the initial wave of the attack, but this technique seemed to have lasting effects. Knowing their options were few, BlackJupitermon turned to Cion while he flew at Elliot. "Cion! We have to retreat for now!" he advised. Thankfully, it seemed the attack had somehow destroyed the illusion emitter, meaning Barbamon's image had momentarily disappeared. As he said that, the obsidian armored angel digimon offered Elliot his protection, shielding him from further effects as he flew away from Apollomon's area of effect. After they had done this, what would they do? Neither of Colin, Luke or Bellamy knew what to do. What would Apollomon do next? Was... there truly nothing they could do? Even under their armor and power, they could feel the burning, stinging sensation of Apollomon's attack. Was... was he truly lost to them?
"What... can we do?" he asked, in a scared, quiet voice. And where was Marshal? Was... he in Apollomon too?
Apollomon's Corrosive Firestorm has destroyed Barbamon's illusion emitter, making his illusion disappear from the battle.

Agony? But how - and why? Their radiant energy was meant to heal the Appollomon of his physical and mental ills, not accentuate them. Narrowing her eyes and slightly gritting her canines, great yet hidden dismay overcame her as their temporary enemy reacted with hostility towards her and the trio's attempt to grant him salvation. Not because she was afraid of its power driven by mindless fury, but due to concerns for Bellamy. Though not knowing much of their love and relationship, she understood what a broken heart felt like. Did they have to vanquish what was left of Coronamon and Martian?
Easily avoiding the blackened, burning ground by taking flight through self-levitation, Cion kept her composure as always. As did the BlackJupitermon, but unfortunately Elliot did not managed to react properly in time, caught and singed by the dark flames. Noticing that the illusion of Barbamon had vanished, her focus was on the unarmored Champion who got saved by the fusion of Colin and the twins. Badly harried, but clearly alive, impressing the restrained Arniomon by his constitution and tolerance to damage. Most others of its kin would have been obliterated, but it appeared the poor fella was quite a special case.
"But why? We can incapacitate him!" She advised back, still not hesitating to follow her partners movements as to escape the zone of smolder and cinder. Reaching their destination, the tiny fennec continued to hover between her allies and friends, gravely beholding the weakened form of the injured warrior. To undo the harm, a few moments of respite had to be taken as to regain their ability to cure Elliot. However, answering the BlackJupitermon's question was easy for Cion. "We have to fight and defeat the darkness - simple as that."
Uttering these words with professional neutrality in contrast to her companions' trepidation, she considered that the only viable option with their mission in mind. Who knows if the vitiating transformation ceases automatically after a while! For now, he was a manifold threat to practically everyone - blind rage fueling a frenzied beast. An unreliable fellow and potential hazard... not intervening would be irresponsible on every conceivable layer. Besides, did they not want to liberate him... and Martian apparently as well?
Uncertainty and hesitation must not halt their righteous undertaking

As the black flames raged around the battlefield, it was eerily silent somehow. Whereas a normal flame would crackle and roar, these flames of darkness seemed to soak up nearby sounds. One could even hear the blood (or data) rushing in their ears.
As the horrid imitation of Marshal and Coronamon's crowning achievement searched the wasteland for his target, he would find that Barbamon was nowhere to be seen, as if he had just disappeared. Had he truly been that simple to defeat?
With the object of his vexation missing, it didn't take Apollomon long to turn his attention toward the other members of the party. The imposing aura he exuded was very clearly hostile, yet the beast stood still.
Finally realizing what was happening, Marshal managed to get a glimpse of what was going on in this strange new form he was inhabiting. Had the two of them really caused all this destruction? At the moment, it seemed like they were about to attack Colin and the others. Why were they doing this? This wasn't something either of them would do, so why...?
"STOP!" Marshal screamed, his voice finally cutting through the darkness. "Get away from them...before we do something unforgivable!"
The outward silence from the flames was harshly broken by a deafening roar from Apollomon. Before anyone else knew what was going on, he had disappeared into the Dark Area, leaving behind only embers of black flames and a feeling of dread.

Cion mentioned that they could incapacitate him, but Colin didn't know how. They were fighting against a super mega... and Elliot was already hurt. The two of them might be able to wear down Apollomon, but... before BlackJupitermon could act, Apollomon retreated deep into the dark area, seemingly vanishing before their eyes. No matter how fast they would go, they would not be able to find him.
When it was all over and there was nothing but the silence of the wastes around them, BlackJupitermon de-digivolved, re-forming as Colin, Luke and Bellamy, the digimon down to their rookie forms.
"...Coronamon?" Bellamy whimpered, staring in the direction where they disappeared. Tears began to roll out of his green eyes, down his white furred face. What had he done? He could have helped his fiance here, but he hadn't, he had only fled, and now he was gone.
As Luke stepped forward and patted his back, Bellamy fell to his knees as he cried, as the horrific realizations seemed to pile on each other. Coronamon was going to be his family... what could he say to Finn and Gaz if they returned without him? And Marshal! He was Coronamon's partner and he... disappeared! What had happened to the human? Humans don't come back if they die in the digital world. Bellamy's tears turned to sobs as he realized just how complete his failure had been.
And the memory of seeing the final moments of Impy and Leky raw in their minds, Bellamy's resolve was already stretched to breaking point, and this... it had just completely shattered him.
Colin didn't know what to say to him. He had brought them here. For what? Revenge... was that worth risking this happening? Elliot almost killed, now Coronamon gone wild and Marshal gone missing? In one catastrophic blunder, Zanbamon had landed them a grievous defeat, and all done from illusions. Thus, it was his responsibility to fix this.
"Cion, please, take Elliot to safety" Colin asked of their friend. "It's too dangerous for him here". 'I should never have asked him to come in the first place' he thought. "Ourselves, we owe it to Marshal and Coronamon to find out what happened, and help them".
Colin would then gently walk over to Bellamy, help him back to his feet, then the trio would go deeper into the dark area to look for them.

It was... a strange feeling that overcame Cion as she beheld the broken Impmon that was her dearly treasured friend Bellamy. It was quite simple for her to sympathize with his loss, knowing full well what it meant to lose those closest to one's heart to the sands of time. But as she allowed his twin to take care of him, she shifted her restrained glare towards the horizon; aureate eyes piercing the eternal gloom of this wasteland. She felt a maelstrom of negative notions stir up within her core. Odium, contempt, shame, intense indignation. However, these sentiments were not only directed at the fiends residing in this literal pandemonium.
In a sense, she too considered the thoughts the purple virus had about himself. Unable to control his emotions, like his special someone, he had played their adversaries right into their hands. If he and Coronamon had the ability to think clearly for a second this disaster would not have occurred and a mighty warlord would have already been close to dethronement. Blame her for supposed apathy, but was she not correct in her assessment? Yet... the trio were among her most cherished companions. What kind of monster would she be if she actually voiced her impressions. Besides, her ideas were likely fueled by the current moment of setback. She had no intention of imposing regret upon herself.
Still, her destiny was bound to remind her of this day for the remainder of her existence - a lesson of utmost value she, if nobody else, understood perfectly.
Cion stared at Colin, listening to his unpleasing words. After this failure, they had the impetus to deal with this endeavor by themselves? Were they completely out of their mind? Her disapproval was carved into her muzzle, narrowed eyelids expressing both doubts and great concern. Alas... she owed them her life. Of course she had not forgotten them saving her from the D-Reaper's harm and her prior anguish born out of loss. Nodding with a frown, the Arniomon complied, guaranteeing as always that her task would be accomplished faultlessly. "Very well... but don't believe for a second that I'll abandon you." That was a friend's unhesitating vow.
