On dreary a Wednesday late afternoon, the young ms Chie Takamoto walked through the slow rainfall. Chie walked briskly through the streets, cursing silently under her breath that her umbrella had broken earlier. Days off from working the bakery are rare now, since she's always the one working constantly, she enjoys the work, even when she gets one, odds are she still worked. Her father had been coming in hungover almost every day he promised to work the whole day, but ever since the funeral he comes in afternoons and when he does show up in the morning, Chie has to hear the sound of his head in a toilet. Chie was grateful at the very least he didn't work when he was incapacitated. This time was different, for her father wouldn't take no for an answer in a guilt trip he called in a cousin to help out for a few days so Chie could take time off.
Feeling the rain press against her skin through her long coat, she had a slight shiver as she started to regret leaving home, but she couldn't recall the last day she did so she figured the cloudy weather would hold up. She wanted to go to a nice Cafe an old friend of her works at, carrying a bag of home made cookies as a gift. Unfortunately, the route she chosen would take her over the Shibuya river. It had brought her great annoyance that a once great beauty had been reduced to a glorified dump. Approaching the bridge, Chie could smell the stench of rot and rubbish long before seeing it. Nervous to cross, she slowly made her way across, her hand gripping the rail with her right hand while her left clutched her purse. "I really should've just stayed home."
About halfway across the bridge, she began to notice that the railing was progressively getting looser. Realizing she was too far gone, she decided to go the rest of the way. At one point the rail shook, and came loose falling off. Gasping in shock, she didn't let go in time and fell over, off the bridge. Falling through the air, although it was a matter of seconds, it felt like an eternity for Chie as she saw her entire life replay. "Darn, it can't end like this!"
Landing into a pile of garbage bags, the one the majority of her body landed on a bag that popped open, sending cat litter flying everywhere. Her long coat and hair got covered along the backside from her shoulder blades to thighs. Looking up at the sky, groggily she moved her body one piece at a time to make sure nothing broke since shock limited her sense of touch, albeit feeling the pain in her back. Starting with hands, wrists, arms, torso, so on and so forth until she managed to roll over and sluggishly move onto her knees, trying to push herself up onto her feet with her left arm, she felt a great shock of pain, and almost fell back over but pushed herself back up with her right. Clutching her left elbow with her right, she stumble across the trash heap to the wall of the other side, still too high to be able to climb even if she didn't have an issue with her arm.
In a snap decision, she decided to walk along the wall, hoping to find a ladder or something that can assist her. However she stopped under the bridge when she saw something sparkle out of the corner of her eye. She looked down to see a hole in the wall near the bottom, covered by a piece of concrete that was starting to break off as she saw what appeared to be a fraction of a small, inactive screen. Curiosity peaked the best of her when she bent her knees down and using her right hand she pulled the loose block out of the way, but suddenly gasped in shock as she saw what was underneath. "Wh-what the, what the hell?"
Inside the hollowed out crevice, was the earlier device seen in full. A white bodied toy like device with a black grip, looking like some sort of GPS. Next to it was a note clutched in the bones of a right hand. The smell of rotted flesh soon flooded Chie's nose as she saw the dried blood beneath it, and some soaked in the folded note, however what was more disturbing was the condition of the bones. Chie could identify insect and rodent bites along the fingers and the small portion of the wrist. However what was more disturbing, was at the end of the wrist, was a taring of the bone pressed against the side, almost as if the body had been dragging by something powerful and the wrist got torn off. Turning around to face the river, Chie vomited onto a trash pile, breathing shakily, before vomiting again. Taking a deep breath, she fished through her purse for her cell phone, only to see there was no bars on signal. "Just my luck, I found a murder scene."
Turning around slowly, she took a picture of the scene, before she focused on the note. Curiosity got the best of her as she could tell the note was indeed as old as the hand, and no one would suspect a child of murder. Reaching her right index and middle fingers in, to slowly extract the note. Carefully unfolding it, she found the bottom piece was torn off, after a dash that normally follows a name. However the note said, in blood in a clear space "FIND HIM, SAVE HIM, --- AVENGE."
There was a blood spot between the last three words, blanking out the middle. Confused, she thought this was a serial case, she was about to stand up and run to the nearest place with signal, but was interrupted when the aforementioned device lit up, curiosity struck twice as she picked it up, the screen glowed as it blinded her, in response she pointed it downwards, what she didn't she was the light manifested a portal underneath her, causing her to fall into the unknown digital world.
