The rundown appearance of this district didn't try to hide anything, this clearly was not the better side of town, if Cole was the type to worry about things maybe he'd have turned back, but as the hollow man was, he simply walked on. Run down housing, dirty sidewalks, flocks of folks who at a glance appeared to have ill intentions. But Cole kept walking through these streets, hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans--the chain from his pocket watch giving a subtle rattle every now and then with the odd step. Cole's head was hung a hint as he moved on, eyes half lidded and seemingly void of life...was he even in this reality anymore and just coasting? Probably, the man was known to get lost in thought at times. The young man would turn, taking an alleyway. It was about this time a group of two others glanced his way from down the sidewalk and watched him enter the alley--devilish smirks crossing their features as they moved in to spring their trap.
There was a high crime rate in this area and Cole was about to find out first hand. The echo of a bottle breaking cast down the alleyway would pull the jade hues of the young man back into this world, just in time to see a third appearing from around the corner in front of him--and with a glance over his shoulder he knew he had two behind him. An ambush...and Cole walked blindly into it. The two who approached from behind stopped about 5 feet away, same with the one in front, smirking at the tall man. "Make this easy on us and just hand over your valuables...." said the thug in front of Cole, flashing a knife from his pocket. A deep sigh passed Cole's lips...he was the fighter type but he was outnumbered and out-armed here. Reluctantly he pulled his pocket watch and what cash he had on him from his pocket and tossed it to the guy. "...Now let me go." "By all means dude...this is a nice watch." said the thug, observing the watch as he stepped aside to let Cole pass. Cole went to move, but as he got closer the thug spotted the chain about Cole's neck. "Hold up beanpole..." the thug said, cutting Cole off. He reached for the chain on Cole's neck but his hand was quickly swatted away by Cole. "Off limits...I gave you 100 yen and a watch worth twice that, now leave me alone." Cole said sternly, shoving his way past the smaller thug.
"The hell you think you are? That necklace is mine dude." said the guy, kicking the back of Cole's knee as he passed, bringing the tall man down for a moment. Cole caught himself and popped back up, turning and putting up his hands--ready to throw down. No one was going to touch that necklace...not until they pry it from his cold dead hands. The thug brought out the knife shown earlier and toyed with it as his boys backed him up. The unarmed ones rushed forward, one swinging on Cole but the young man ducked back enough to evade it--but not the tackle coming from the 2nd. This took Cole to the ground and he got socked once pretty good across the cheek, before throwing this guy off and standing up. Sadly the moment he was up the first aggressor grappled Cole from behind and locked his arms back--the thug wielding the knife coming up to Cole and with the blade he lifted the chain around Cole's neck, revealing the bright blue pendent. "Oh this will sell for a lot." "I told you its off limits..." Cole growled. He got punched again for this. Having enough Cole's anger welled within him and he literally flipped the guy holding him over forward,, slamming him and freeing himself from the thug's grasp. He kicked this grounded guy straight in the ribs, knocking the wind out of him. An elbow was thrown to knock back the 2nd unarmed man who was trying to blindside Cole, before Cole grabbed him by his shirt and threw him towards the knife wielding aggressor.
This was enough to make the unarmed man run once he got stable from being thrown, leaving only the knife wielder there--one run, the other left gasping on the ground. Cole put his hands back up, spitting out some blood from the punches he took. The thug charged, slashing wildly at Cole. Cole kept jumping back but found himself backed to a wall, as another slash came in he couldn't do anything but try to block it, throwing his arms up. The hot wet feeling of blood crossing his skin could be felt before any pain, as a good gash was left upon his arm. This time the thug was going for a stab--Cole caught his hand and using something his ex-military father showed him to disarm and break the hand of the attacker all in one movement. Dropping the knife and stepping back, just luckily enough dropping Cole's stuff in the scuffle, the attacker took off. Cole was breathing heavy and then winced, the pain from the cut on his arm finally hitting him. He stepped over and gathered his stuff from the ground, taking one glance at the grounded thug before running out of the alley the opposite direction of the thugs.
Cole got away from there and finally a few blocks away stopped running, out of breath he started to stumble...he was loosing a lot of blood, it now covering his entire arm under the wound...he kept trying to walk, push through it, but his vision was beginning to blur...and before he knew it, he fell to the ground--harnessing some looks by people passing by, but no one seeming to care enough to check on him. He rolled over as he begun blacking out, eyes slowly squinting as he was feeling the loss of blood hit him. He kept trying to fight it though...

"Hmm I see someone didn't pay attention in basic first aid." A voice murmured with a soft hum as a shadow fell over the man. Should he manage to pry open his eyes he'd see the figure of a rather petite woman silhouetted against the setting sun, the back lighting leaving her features in shadow even as she crouched and drew something from her pocket. In a moment Cole would feel a hand on his arm followed by some sort of cloth being pressed over the cut and steady pressure.
"Well I suppose this is what I get for ordering pickup instead of takeout for once." The woman griped playfully, her voice gentle despite it's teasing nature as he'd feel two fingers check his pulse.
"You alive there? You shouldn't have lost enough blood to be dead yet, but I'll understand if you're woozy." She asked prodding him lightly as she assessed the downed man. While he was indeed bleeding like a stuck pig the knife wound wasn't near anything vital that the Doctor could see, but if he'd been moving fast with adrenaline that could worsen the bleeding just as much.
"I'm Dr. Cross. I'm a paramedic. Mind telling me your name?" She coaxed hoping to get and keep the man talking so she could better keep tabs on his state. She'd far rather care for him back at her clinic then on the street, but if he wasn't up to moving she'd just have to make do.

He thought he may not be able to keep awake, the setting sun was burning down on his eyes until a figure came to cross the sunlight, leaving the figure just a shadow in the backlit sunlight. Cole's eyes opened a hint more but still seemed to struggle to remain open. His pulse was still strong, in fact his heart rate was still high from the fight then flight, likely not helping the situation with so much blood being pumped through him. He could hear her, at first the voice was distorted, he couldn't make out her first line, but once she was closer and spoke to him he could hear her. There was some sass behind her tone, but it had enough of a playful hint he knew even in a groggy state she wasn't trying to sound mean.
Cole could feel the cloth pressed to his arm and her fingers checking his pulse, his uninjured him slowly moving up to rub his eye and push his hair out of his face, trying to get a better look at this...'Dr. Cross'.He'd draw a bit of a labored breath before his groggy voice could be heard--"C-Cole...My name is Cole..." he grumbled. Seeming to catch a 2nd wind he'd try to sit up, his arm that wasn't covered in blood pushing him up into a sitting position--as he tried to regain himself. The bleeding was being slowed down at least now.
He turned away and spit on the sidewalk, a good bit of it blood--he was pretty roughed up. But through it all a small rare smirk crossed Cole's features. "...I think I got off easy compared to them." he said, hyping his own 'victory' up a peg...how funny bravado in the face of obvious defeat was, but that is a young man for you...even the hollow soul that was Cole had to have some pride, right? He started to wobble soon after, almost as if he was gonna fall out again, only to catch himself at the last second.

"Oh good sleeping beauty awakes." Cas joked reaching out her free arm to help the man sit up as she nodded along to his name allowing a chuckle to slip as he mentioned how roughed up he'd left the 'other' guys. Then again wasn't that what all men said in their assessment of their fighting skills, but still the comment drew a wry smile to her face. Once he was sitting up, with the light a little less bright against his eyes, Cole would be able to get a better look at 'Dr. Cross' as it were. Revealing a young woman in her mid to early twenties with short blonde hair that hung light about her chin in an almost mane like cut framing bright sky blue eyes and a delicate face. She wore a lab coat over a black longsleeved turtleneck with black cargo pants and boots seeming to having meshed practical with professional somewhere down the line in her work.
"I'm certain you gave your opponents quite the thrashing. Hopefully no clients of mine though." She added with a light laugh as she fished some electrical tape from her pocket. At this angle Cole would be able to see that she was holding a clean folded up washcloth against his injury to soak up the blood and tearing off a strip of tape she would circled it around his arm to hold it in place and help her keep up the pressure to slow and stop the bleeding
"All right. We're just a block from my clinic. How about I help you there so we can have a proper look at you if you feel up to walking?" Cas suggested her voice softening slightly in comfort and should Cole try to stand she would support him to ensure he was steady on his feet and didn't jostle his injury.

He seemed to have caught his breath somewhat by now and wasn't as bad off as he was after a multi-block sprint, her joke drew a small glare from his sharp jade hues but he let it go without a retort. She was helping him out afterall..heck if she didn't show up when she did, he may have just laid there and bled out for all anyone else seemed to care. He rubbed his eyes once more and finally got a clear look of her, Cole's eyes opening a hint wider as he took in her features...she was rather cute, it crossed his mind a moment. But now wasn't the time or place. Cole sighed quietly at the suggestion of standing up, enternally he didn't honestly know if he could, but as any man would try in front of a 'pretty lady' he'd do it anyways. Pushing himself up slowly, he stumbled the moment he got to his feet but then stabilized.
Jade hues peered from under long dark brown locks to Cas, as he tried to step off without her assistance. "Thank you Doctor...but I'll be fine..." he lied--to himself just as much as her--as he attempted to walk away, his hand crossing over to keep pressure on the cloth she had prepped around his wound as he walked. But it didn't take but a couple feet and he'd visibly start to wobble, and clearly was about to fall back to his knees...unless someone was nice enough to help the prideful man and keep his stubborn bum upright....

"Uh-huh. Yeah no I don't buy that for a second." Cas muttered with a roll of her eyes as she jogged forward having to take two steps to Cole's one as she reached out to snag the man back the back of his belt steadying him before he toppled forward. Doing her best to resist rolling her eyes once more at his comments the woman braced his side hoping that if he was strong enough to stand she could at least be his balance till she could get him patched up.
"Look I am not scraping you off the ground a second time so why don't you do us both a favor and let me treat you properly. Sides I'm already late to pickup my takeout as it is so I'll just call to have it delivered like usual and if you're so fussy over accepting my help you can just pay for the food." She added knowing all too well how easily wounded male pride was. More then a few of her customers had been brought to their knees by it not to mention the man she was currently working to keep upright.
"Besides the nearest hospital is a ways a way and ambulances won't come into Greater Shibuya beyond the first couple blocks. Unless you have a ride you'll be pretty bad off by the time you get far enough out of the area to get help. That is if you're not jumped for being an easy injured mark." Cas pointed out hoping Cole would see reason. He seemed like a decent enough sort and while she had no real attachment to the man the Doctor certainly didn't want to see him dead on some street somewhere.

He probably was just about to go down when he found himself partially supported by the woman. He wasn't fooling anyone, pride aside the man wasn't in the best shape. She was pretty quick to speak, giving a number of reasons for him to just let her do her job and aid him. Cole couldn't ignore the fact she was right. He sighed and just let it go, keeping upright with her aid he's lower his head a bit. The man was over a foot taller then her, good thing he had enough in him to support his own weight with her help balancing cause there was no way this woman could've gotten him anywhere if he couldn't do a lot of the work too. Still...Cole did appreciate the kindness he was being shown, frankly it'd been a long time sense someone was just generally nice to him...lack of human contact outside of business kinda does that to people.
"...Ok. Which way is your clinic Dr. Cross..." the young man said, his tone changed, no longer full of false pride but just as he was, the defeated sorry lump she found him as. Whenever she did give him a sort of answer he'd go ahead with walking that way--fairly slowly but never straining her much in aiding him...aside from a stumble or two. While walking he almost felt awkward with any sort of silence, odd considering he by far wasn't the social type..but deep down a suppressed wish for friends and some sort of contact with another human compelled the man...maybe he was still out of it. "You're pretty young to be in the medical field....paramedic you said?" he'd say to her, vibrant jade hues peering from under his long threads of hair. "Heh...guess paying for some food in payment for medical aid is a pretty good deal....can't pass that up can I?" he lightly kidded, trying to make light of the situation he was in.

"I figured out my passion pretty early on is life. I'm actually a veterinary doctor, but I picked up my paramedic license because injured people kept showing up at my doorstep." She explained leading him back towards her clinic. The clinic itself was a small two story brick building with wide bay windows on the first and second floor and a little vet sign hanging out front. Plastered to the inside of the entry window facing out was a set of numbers and contacts should the Doctor be out and about. Fishing her key out of her pocket Cas let the two of them into a small waiting room with a couch, a low table, and a coffee and water cooler nearby. The room had clearly once been a sitting room remodeled into it's current use and once she'd locked the door back behind them Cas lead Cole back through the door at the end of the room with the plaque reading "Veterinary Doctor Cassandra Cross."
"Come on let's get you sewed up." She quipped with a wry smile as she lead him into a small operating room motioning for him to take a seat on the metal table in the center as she set about grabbing what she would need to disinfect, numb, and stitch up his arm.
"So what did you do to end up getting slashed up like this?" She asked carefully removing the wash cloth and tape as she warned him "This might sting a bit," before spraying the wound with disinfectant watching it bubble and fizz itself out as she checked for any debris. Finding none she carefully numbed the area with a shot before clamping the edges together with suture clips to ease the process of the stitches.

"Heh, sounds like this isn't your first time dealing with something like this then." Cole would say to the woman as they approached her place of business--seeing the sign confirming the vet story. Not that he didn't believe her, her being a Vet instead of a human doctor made more sense, fitting such a beautiful girl. Cole's experience with doctors left him with images of dried up old hags and weird quirky old men that you may question just which team they are playing for. But that aside they was now at the building and she unlocked the door. Going inside Cole winced, just a small pulse of pain from the cut on his arm causing it.
Cole was too out of it still to really notice all the details of the waiting room, but as she lead him through a door the flash of her name. 'Cassandra huh...' he thought to himself after seeing the name on the door they passed through. Once inside he felt weird, that feeling you get when inside a hospital or doctors office. The table looked very...unwelcoming. Especially at the thought cats and dogs are the usual ones on said operating table. But he got over it and stepped over, using the wall to support himself once she had moved off to grab supplies--the man taking a seat and wincing once more before his features relaxed, eyes closed--trying to essentially mind over matter the pain.
"...I know its not been the best first impressions...but its nice to meet you Cassandra...and thank you. I hope you don't mind me calling you that...I don't really like how formal Dr. Cross sounds....But I do appreciate it...Not every day a guy gets hurt then treated by a beauty for the price of a meal...maybe I'll have to buy you another one sometime under better circumstances. " his eyes opened as he spoke, voice much more smooth now that he'd regained his breath. He looked over to see her approaching with what she needed. Her question at first caught him off guard...he glanced down and with his uninjured hand as she was removing the wash clothe from his injured arm--the man would use his thumb to hold up a bright azure crystal pendent from the necklace it hung from.
"...They was trying to steal this." he said--voice suddenly much more serious, even with a hint of pain and anger behind it, totally different then any tone he'd shown her yet. He quickly would tuck the necklace back under his white undershirt. "They'd have to kill me first..." he mumbled, more to himself but likely loud enough she could make out what he muttered. The previously empty jade hues of the man was now lit ablaze, clearly...the necklace meant a lot to the man. He let her disinfect and treat the wound, holding still for her, now looking off to the side and having gone quiet for the duration of her working on his wound.

"You may call me Cassandra if you like or Cas. I usually prefer Cas as it's a touch less cursed of a name." She joked keeping her tone light even as she carefully prodded at his wound waiting for the numbing agent to take effect. She doubted it would be long, but she didn't want to risk putting her patient in more pain then necessary if she could avoid doing so.
"Can you feel this?" She asked putting a bit of pressure on the skin around the wound. "And I mostly use Dr. Cross when at work like this or with colleagues." She added, but lets her gaze trail up from his injury to glance between the necklace and his solemn face. A soft sort of understanding coming into her eyes. The necklace itself didn't look like the sort that a man would wear likely meaning it had belonged to another. The bright sentimentality in Cole's gaze only further confirming the Doctor's guess.
"It must mean a great deal to you for you to defend it so fiercely." Cas murmured finding herself able to sympathize if not empathize unable to recall if she herself had a item she was willing to die for. Only to find that she did not. They were all just...things. At one point there had been her Mother's locket, but she had been six and weak when an older girl had ripped it from around her throat and taught her the cruel lesson not to get attached. Glancing away from the necklace the Doctor concentrated instead on carefully threading her needle and prepping Cole for stitches.

Cas...Cole would have to keep it in mind. The man could feel her prodding at him, but only just. He was pretty much numbed at this point, him simply answering with shaking his head to say he couldn't feel it so she'd continue on with the work. Could he feel it? Yeah, a little. Did he care? No. The man had a pretty high threshold for pain, some poking and prodding, even stitches going in, all minuscule compared to the original cut anyways.
Cole remained quiet for a while, obviously a nerve had been touched--even if Cas didn't intend for that to happen. There was actually an almost awkward amount of time between him telling her about how they was after his necklace, and the moment he finally would speak again. She'd likely be nearly done by then. It seemed to come off what she had said minutes earlier, her comment on how it must mean a lot to him. His head turned to finally look more towards Cas--having been looking away since he'd tucked the necklace back into his shirt. "It was my sisters..." he quietly said, finally breaking the multi-minute silence. His tone of voice was the same as before, still much more serious then it had been this entire time.
A small sigh passed his lips and he shut his eyes for a moment--finally bringing it back from the darkness that had begun taking over, the man smirked just barely--almost sadly. "Sorry to have threwn a wrench in your evening Cas..." he'd say, eyes focused down at the floor in front of him rather then at her now. "Guess I underestimated this country's people...I come from a rather ghetto area in the U.S., you'd think I wouldn't make the mistake of getting ambushed. That kinda stuff was normal back home...Guess 8 or 9 years away will do that to someone. What about you...you're not from around here...?" he said, finally bringing his eyes back to meet her's if she happened to look up at him after the question.

Cas allowed the silence to stretch out between them knowing all too well how sensitive such subjects could be. For the moment the only noise was the soft rustling of the Doctors coat as she bent over to work on Cole's arm carefully closing his wound with a neat and even row of tiny stitches. The needle if the area wasn't fully numb would likely sting a touch, but once the topical anesthesia set in he would just feel the slight push and pull of the thread.
"Ah...I never really had any siblings of my own." Cas would murmur softly once Cole and broken the silence. It had not taken her long to complete her work and carefully removing the claps she took a disinfectant wipe and gently wiped down the now closed wound.
"I'm going to apply medical tape to this to keep it clean and dry and put a pad over it in case it bleeds." She explained carefully layering the tape before neatly cutting and applying. The pad was a simple medical one though taped on expertly atop the stitches. With that done the Doctor stepped back to eye her completed work.
"I'd suggest lots of fluids and a good red meat heavy meal tonight. You're welcome to join me for takeout since you're paying for it and I can recommend something for you if you'd like?" She offered chuckling lightly as his observation. "And no I'm American like yourself, but I've been in the area for two years and most of the local thugs leave me be." She adds with a wry smile offering him and arm up if he needs it.

The young man would feel the sting as the first few stitches went in, the needle's sharp point piercing already tender skin, but by about the third or 4th it was dulling to a simply push and pull. Finally the numbness has set in. Not that Cole cared, the man had a pretty high threshold for pain and the stinging, pushing and pulling--it was nothing compared to the cut itself. He sat still and calmly for her, letting her do the best job she has the ability to do when fiing him up.
Cole's ears burned with her response, a slight nod as she responded about having no siblings. '...Guess neither do I anymore.' crossed the mind of the young man, him keeping his attention to the doctor as she begun talking more at length about what she was doing and suggested. The next part caught the young man a bit off guard but not too badly, and upon hearing her inquire if he'd hear out her recommendation. "What is it you recommend?" he'd ask, looking at her. He heard her mention having been here for a couple years--he'd probably been in Japan longer but she's probably had a lot more...people experience then he has since moving. "Yeah...I don't really come around this district, had a day off and figured I'd just get out and walk for a bit...I wasn't really paying attention like I usually would...been a bit..." he sighed between the words.
"Distracted--ya'know...." he said, glancing off away from the direction she stood. "Guess I'm just making excuses..." he'd say in a more...'defeated' tone. Sometimes one could almost get the idea there was two people in Cole...not a multi-personality thing but just...two sides to him, this hollow shell thats had no motivation to even really live life and enjoy it, and the real Cole trying to break out of that shell but stopped by these mental blocks. He slipped back to his feet, a hand on the table he had stood from to keep himself from toppling over...but he was mostly fine, he felt a good bit better--surely still woozy but not too bad, letting his hand drop and standing under his own ability fully. "...Can't say as good as new but better then a bit ago." he'd say, looking back over to her.

"Ah well distraction happens to the best of us." Cas murmured her tone soft and sympathetic as she nodded and worked on cleaning up tools and setting them aside to be sanitized later. She'd pause to watch him get to his feet eyeing him for a moment till she was certain he wouldn't topple over before she went back about her business.
"As for recommendations I've got a couple takeout menu's up in my flat. You can flip through the one I was ordering from and see if there's anything you like. I suggest the beef and broccoli though to get your iron count up." She added setting aside her tool as she turned to him and motioned with one hand for him to follow.
"Come on. Looks like you've had a rough day. You're welcome to borrow the hall shower to get some of the blood off of you once we place our orders. It wouldn't be the first time I've had someone need it and I doubt you want to sit around with that stuff sticking to your skin. I think I might have a shirt that will fit you laying around." Cas suggested leading him out of the operating room and down the hall to a set of stairs that lead up to the second floor. Leveling out at a large open room with walls lined with book cases except where a corner of it was sectioned off as the kitchen by an island. Two doors were situated on either side of the room one on the right which was closed and one of the left which was cracked open to show a small bathroom. Though the sun was dipping low a few slivers of natural light still poured through the two large front bay windows of the room illuminating the area enough for Cas to find a light switch as she tossed her Doctors coat on the rack and dug through one of her drawers for the takeout menu in question.
"Here." She spoke handing him the little pamphlet for a chinese takeout place that he might have remembered passing a ways down the street.

Cole would listen for what she had said, noticing the motion for him to follow. He would do so, thinking about what she said about getting his iron count back up after loosing so much blood...made sense. He tried to keep from spreadiing any of his blood and not touch anything on the way up the stairs, making him lag behind a little, each step seemed to come more slowly then the last, but the woozy man made it up to the 2nd floor and would find himself lead into a bookshelf lined room, only interrupted by a kitchen and some doors among other things. Cole paused at the door...this place was huge compared to his dinky apartment--guess thats the luxuries that comes with Cas's profession...Cole's apartment wasn't much larger then a closet it seemed, at least compared to this. Living space was scarce in Japan after all...
"Its a nice place..." he commented as he found himself being handed a takeout menu, although he was starting to realize the potential mess he could make...she mentioned the blood on him, maybe he should clean up at least a little before continuing--one arm was nearly covered, and his other hand had some too simply from holding the wound. He held the menu just by the corner and set it down somewhere for him to look at after he at least washed his hands. He'd slowly step passed Cas and towards the bathroom, nudging the cracked door open with his elbow to keep from getting blood on stuff, and after a moment of fiddling he got the water going without his hands. Minute or so later he'd come out--at least his hands cleaned. He'd look at Cas as he stepped back to where he left the menu. "So you suggest meat right?...Sorry 'Doc' but the broccoli is a no go." he said giving a weak smile and chuckle, looking the menu over.
"Guess being a vet is a pretty cushy career huh...this place must cost a fortune around here." he said, glancing out one of the large bay windows before back over to Cas. He'd sigh and flip out a cell phone, going ahead and placing his order--mentioning to just add it to 'Dr. Cross's' order and to have it delivered to the usual place...might as well since he was gonna pay for it all, and he had no idea where he was, he couldn't tell them where to bring it otherwise--luckily this worked. Cole spoke very little Japanese, so ordering took...a moment, possibly funny from an outsider's perspective watching him fumble with words over the phone. Finally that was over with and he put his cell back in his pocket--a slightly embarrassed sigh passing his lips. He lived there nearly a decade but had yet to fully grasp the language. "I ah...guess I should go fully clean up huh." he'd say.
It wouldn't take too long for him to do as she suggested, using the shower she offered to let him get to get all the blood off him--having to be careful not to get his stitches too wet in the process. Soon enough he'd return, hair all wet and swept to the side out of his face as he returned. He had gotten blood on one of his two shirts, it now just sat hung over his shoulder, leaving his white sleeveless undershirt to cover his torso. More of his arm and shoulder revealed would uncover a mural of ink wthin Cole's skin, normally hidden by the button up shirt. A black and white samurai on his upper arm, the colorful branches of a blooming Sakura treee framing it and curling up his arm, around his shoulder, disappearing under his shirt but clearly leading to something even more grand on his back.
