The forest closed in on them like a blanket of green leaving sunlight to pool through darkened branches and spill through the rare openings in the canopy like springs of gold. Though she had seen little of the Digital world thus far there was something comforting in knowing forests such as these existed. Cassandra felt at home in forests having grown up in them for a good deal of her life leaving the press of trees both comforting and worryingly strange as she reminded herself these were not the woods of her youth. Tucked in the crook of her arm Cloak kept a sharp-eyed look out on their surroundings or as sharp an eye as the slightly near-sighted Caprimon could while Dagger napped curled atop the backpack on Cas's back dozing lightly.
The trio had gone out in search of food while Cole and his partner made camp, but the Doctor was beginning to worry she might have strayed a little too far. Thus far nothing looked edible or remotely edible, but with strange flora and possibly fauna Cas was perhaps overly cautious.
"Does anything look familiar to you?" She asked looking down at Cloak who hazard a glance up at her with a frown.
"No. Sorry Hime." He murmured voice small with having failed her in this as she stroked the silky fur of his cheek lightly in comfort.
"It's fine. I'm sure things will start coming back to you and Dagger at some point." Cas assured him before sweeping her gaze over their surroundings.
"Maybe we can find a small pond or spring and fish. I swear if I discover someone selling a digital field guide of wild edibles I'm buying it so fast their heads will spin." She muttered as much to herself as the digimon tucked in her arms.

Of all my rotten luck...
For the third time, Dr. Mikemon found himself in this neck in the woods - and unfortunately, it was for the exact same reason as before. Just a few months back, some very 'economical' folk thought it would be alright to try and grow a particular breed of mushroom out here. On the surface, it seemed fine: the soil was nice and loamy, the mushrooms sold for a tidy profit, and they were even in high demand in the medical field. What wasn't to like?
Well. this wasn't to like. All the feline wanted to do was get a few samples and head back out to the lab for testing. But now, he was running, a visible nick in his left ear as he sprinted through the woods. In fact, the doctor wouldn't even notice Cassandra on his way by: breaking through the foliage on the way by, Dr. Cross would note the appearance of the rather strange-looking, two legged cat. In addition to his normal gloves, the cat wore a white band around his upper arm with the symbol of a green cross - the universal uniform of a 'field medic' in the Digital World. Across his shoulder was a strap, a brown bag tightly wrapped around his back. Shooting one glance over his shoulder, the feline swore audibly, and pounced off the other edge of the path.
Just why was he - oh.
Yeah, that would do it: the armored beetle buzzed through, each of the drills on its hands spinning ferociously - so much, that the 'joints' near its nose and hands were already burnt red, a similar tired color around its eyes. It stood in the path for a brief moment, giving a fierce hiss, as it drove its claw straight through the next brush, tearing through it - as well as a medium size tree - before continuing to pursue its target!

"What the!?" Cas began startling in surprise as the cat digimon crashed through the bush like hell was at his heels nearly causing the Doctor to leap out of her skin in shock. Glancing after the digimon she briefly considered going after them as Dagger roused by the noise blinked groggily awake from where he was half tucked in her pack.
"Huh? Wha?" The little Sakuttomon muttered blinking sleepily as it looked up. "Everything ok?" He asked even as Cas turned to examine from whence the panicked digimon had come a niggling sense of worry gnawing at her mind when she saw the glint of gold and heard the annoying buzzing of drills and wings alike.
"Oh $&*#!" She cussed earning a yipe of surprise from Cloak and Dagger alike as Cas turned on her heel and took off running after the cat like digimon. Both intent to catch them and to escape the clearly extremely pissed off creature that was proceeding to decimate a bush, a tree, and possibly Cassandra and her digimon if they weren't fast enough.
"Great first signs of life we run into in these woods and one is fleeing and the other is trying to kill us!" Cas griped keeping a firm grip on Cloak as she flat out bolted, Dagger ducking down into the pack to prevent being thrown from her back on accident.
"We can take him!" Dagger quipped all bravado and confidence as he peaked over the edge of the leather bag to glare at the Digmon.
"Not if we don't have to we're not!" Cas exclaimed. In the distance she could see the brown and white furred body of the previous cat digimon as she leaped over a fallen log in her attempt to gain on them.

Alright... alright, keep your cool, Doc. The Mikemon, sprinting on all fours at this point, tried to keep a level field to think. His ear twitched as those drills screeched from behind - sheesh, just how persistent was this thing going to be? It had been a good four or five minutes up to this point! He was starting to feel the burn in his muscles from this extended chase, but if he could just find something out here to work with, he could...
... He... could...
Looking once more over his shoulder, to make sure that he wasn't seeing things, the cat called back: "The heck? When did you even get dragged up in... gah, doesn't matter!" Clearly frustrated and out of patience, the cat turned away from the human and the gold-bladed Digimon scooped up in her arms. Suddenly, that medic symbol around his arm held a lot more weight, as that Digmon started once more to charge from behind!
"Quick version, that thing is rabid and is going to try and drill through anything that moves. Bug already got the jump on me and almost took my ear clean off!" That damaged ear gave a flick, just as that Digimon picked itself into the air, the grinding drill picking up in tempo.
"Split left!" The cat's words were on point, as the feline gave a wide pivot, splitting off to the right. The Digmon had picked up speed, and, airborne, twisted its body along with the turn of the drill, attempting to drive through the lot of them...
... But it seemed like he couldn't turn that well while he was doing it! Should they manage to give it enough distance, the Digmon's drill would stick itself into a thicker tree!
Digmon used 'Drill Dive!'

"Trust me I'm asking myself the same question!" Cas yelled out coming up beside the cat like digimon Dagger clinging to her back for dear life and Cloak tucked against her arms his tail wrapped tight about her wrist in an attempt to stabilize himself as he peaked over her shoulder.
"Hime! He's closing on us!" Cloak, the Caprimon warned as Cas listened to the run down of their situation from the digital cat. Rabid she could understand. Gritting her teeth she draw her digivice into her hand even as she juked left.
"Hold on!" She barked out to her pair having to throw herself bodily out of the way of the strike sending the trio tumbling into the bushes. The hair bristling on the back of her neck as the felt the wind and heat of the angry digimon's passing as it barreled into the tree. Crashing to the ground Cloak rolled from Cas's grip, Dagger likewise spilling from her pack as the Doctor tried to bounce to her feet fighting against the branches the clung to her clothes as she dipped her hands into her pockets fishing for a familiar card.
"Stick around." The Doctor snarled drawing the Wild Growth enviroment card as she threaded it through her Digivice's card reader in a shower of sparks. In second the woods and trees around them began to rapidly thicken closing in on the rabid digimon.

Thank goodness that tree was sturdier than the other ones the Digmon simply snapped in twain!
With both Mikemon and Cassandra safely out of the way, the crazed Digimon carried forward, smashing into the tree's trunk with a hefty slam! Something more aware of itself might have been dazed by the impact, but this beetle-like Digimon didn't even lose a beat. The back of its drill claws pressed against the bark, trying to pull his stuck drill free of the bark. They only had a few seconds to -
Oh, Cassandra had something handy! It was a starting card - one that the doctor would easily recognize - but one that proved effective nonetheless. The suddenly gnarled state of the woods dragged its vines around the Digmon's ankles, tangling it up further against the tree. The beetle didn't exactly know what was going on, but feeling itself further restricted from going back, it did the only other thing it could:
Try and burrow straight through the tree. Once more, all five of its drills were on, full power!
"... Take what I can get!" The Mikemon had one ranged attack up its sleeve: staring down the insect from the back, he parted his fangs, a glowing orange bullet of energy propelling forth, heavily hitting the insect's back! It left a scorch, even singing one of the Digimon's wings, but it seemed to proceed undisturbed! "Can't even feel pain anymore, can it?"
The cat growled, already charging a second blast. Who knew how long this bind was going to hold?
Mikemon used Blazing Fire!

"Quick see if you can't take it's wings out before it gets free! It'll have a harder time chasing us if it can't fly!" Cas ordered as Dagger leaped to his feet the Sakuttomon grinning brightly.
"'I've got it!" The little digimon called out as it rolled forward becoming a spinning dervish of knives as it launched itself forward tearing up the ground in front of it as it rammed into the beetle digimon's back. The attack wasn't nearly as effective as Cas would like, but she at least hoped it damaged the delicate membranes of the creatures wings.
Not to be out done by his twin Cloak launched himself forward electricity building up between his horns like a tazer as it tackled the digimon sending the current jolting into it's form hopefully slowly and stunning it. With it's rabid status however Cas wasn't certain it would do more then merely lock up the creature's muscles.
"Is there anyway to fix it? The environment card won't hold forever!" She called out to the cat like digimon as Cas aimed her digivice at the creature seeing if she couldn't scan it before it got loose.

Really?
I mean, Mikemon wasn't going to say 'no' to the help, but the feline looked slightly aghast when the two, mere, in-training Digimon stood at the tamer's attention, attempting to slow down the Digmon! Cassandra had a good sense of where to aim, but the exposed parts of Digmon's wings were just the tips. Unless it opened the beetle-like shell on its back, it was unlikely that those two would put even more than a scratch on him.
What they did do, however, was push Mikemon right into gear! Biting hard around that built-up energy, the feline changed gears, quickly sprinting forward himself to cut the distance. His right arm tensed, and with a small jump, he crashed a heavy claw down against the Digmon's back. Despite his smaller stature, it was enough to crack the back of that insect's metallic shell - one that reverberated even more with Cloak's sound-based blast. They seemed to have the upper hand!
... Well, they would, if the insect remained trapped! Its drills practically smoked at this point, but the insect had somehow managed to get its momentum back, and punched through the tree, a hole bored right through the trunk! The tree started to creak, just as the Digimon stared back from the other end!
"Trust me, miss, I'm looking to not get cut up just as much as you are." The cat swore under his breath, quickly thinking through his options. Thankfully, it didn't take long for Cassandra to get a read on the thing:
Digmon Champion Vaccine Nature Spirit Family Specializes in underground burrowing and combat. Generally docile herbivores, they will aggressively attack from burrows to defend their nests. That last part of the description really didn't fit the bill here!
Mikemon used 'Lightning Paw', damaging the Digmon's shell! Digmon is somewhat slowed by a metallic ring through its body. The tips of its wings are cut. Digmon has burrowed through the tree, and is righting its position on the other side!

"Cloak! Dagger! It's loose! Get out of there!" Cas yelled glancing between the rabid digimon and her digivice as she felt her blood run cold at the information. Perhaps with Cole the two in-training and his rookie might have been able to harry a champion digimon into running, but with just them and the unknown medic Cas doubted that would be the case this time around. Not to mention the Digmon didn't seem to have the facilities to even consider retreat. Her momentary split in attention though would cost the Doctor dearly as the tree gave way with a great crack causing the woman's head to snap up eyes going wide in horror as the shadow of the great hardwood fell over her. Even if she dashed left or right now while she might avoid the truck there was no feasible way she would escape the range of it's great branches without injury. "CAS!" "HIME!" The twins seemed to scream together their voices cracking in fear as they whirled. There was no time. No time. Then time itself seemed to stop caught in a split second moment where fate held it's breath as the digivice clutched in Cas's white knuckled grip exploded in blinding light. Only a single word could be made out flashing across it's screen... DIGIVOLUTION Light encompassed the two twin digimon even as they whirled towards the tamer. Their forms shifting in the aurora of evolution with only the gleam of their gold eyes able to be seen as they changed. Cas half turned lifting her arm to both shield her eyes and in a futile instinctive defense against the weighted death hurtling towards her. At least until the glow of their change seemed to explode off the pair of digimon in a hail of sparks as they struck out. "DAWN SLASH!" "RISING SUN!" The rookies roared out flinging their attacks forward as a blade of light sliced the tree in twain changing it's trajectory even as a second later an arching blade of fire rendered it to naught but ash. Leaving only the pale snow like flakes to rain down upon their tamer as the now Kotemon and Zubamon stood there panting. Even as Cas tentatively opened her eyes blinking in surprise to see not only their change, but the destruction they'd wrought in their defense of her. "You~" Cloak hissed, the Kotemon slowly turning towards the Digmon his glowing yellow eyes narrowing dangerously behind his helmet. "Are going to pay for that." The rookie spat out. His twin though could only manage a low rumbling snarl too mad for words. Cloak the Caprimon Digivolves to Kotemon! Dagger the Sakuttomon Digivolves to Zubamon! Damn it, just what was the Mikemon supposed to do now? With the addition of this wild brush, now free of the tree, the Digmon quickly became the most mobile Digimon in the fight! The feline grit his fangs - he was a Champion in his own right. He could fight the Digmon himself, and try and buy time for this tamer and her two young Digimon, but what if something else came out of the woodwork?
He didn't have time to think it all the way through, so he hedged his bets: "Get to cover, I'll try and handle this myself - ah!" Damn it, the tree of all things? Burrowed through by the Digmon, the Mikemon's eyes looked on in horror as it snapped, pivoting on the spot to try and divert it. He intended to simply try and slam it away with his shoulder, but could he even get there in time?
Thankfully, with that flash of light, he didn't need to: briefly blinded by the light, and halted halfway, the medic's eyes peeled open just a moment later, to see those two bladed rookies split that tree into two flaming halves! The fragments quickly started to dissipate into red data, and with the Kotemon stepping into line, the Mikemon simply fell into position, in front of the group.
He wasn't just about to let that noble act slip by: as the Digmon locked sights on them again, and started his dash forward, the Mikemon held his position. "It won't slow down just because you threaten it. That Digmon's pretty much a zombie as it is." The cat muttered, staring eye-to-eye with that crazed beast. Staring away from the other three, the cat's eyes gave a fierce yellow glow - causing the Digmon's eyes to instinctively snap shut! With a leap, the cat took to the air, a single kick given to the top of the armor beetle's head. With perhaps surprising strength, it was grounded, front drill spinning in the mud!
"Back of its head! Don't hold back!"
Digmon used 'Drill Dive!' Mikemon used 'Cat Eye Hypnotism!'

Regaining some of her composure Cas dug through her her cards pulling out a Berserker Protocol card as she readied it. Her wild growth card was already fading as the forest gradually returned to normal, but with the cat medic driving the Digmon's nose into the ground they wouldn't have the advantage for long. "While it goes against my nature to attack the sick if we're going to survive this we need to give it everything we've got." Cas spoke her words clipped and though she was curious what could cause a normally peaceful by most accounts digimon to lash out like this she couldn't assess it while it was trying to kill them. Not if they were going to survive. "Cloak! Dagger! Take it out." She ordered with narrowed eyes. "With pleasure~" Cloak snarled even as Dagger leaped in front of his sibling. "Then I won't feel bad about doing this!" The Zubamon growled out his form glowing as he changed shifting into a gleaming glittering sword it's edge razor sharp with the signature '20' emblazoned upon it's side as the Kotemon caught the hilt of the blade discarding it's own wooden sword in favor of it's twin as it raced towards the downed Digmon. "Now!" Cas called out as she slid the card sparking through the card reader as a red glow seemed to surrounded Cloak as he leaped high with a battlecry on his lips. "FIRES EDGE!" Cloak roared the gleaming longsword that was his twin becoming sheathed in flames, the normally small fire erupting like an inferno as the rookie digimon brought the weapon down with all his might on the Digmon's head. -Dagger uses: Twenty Sword: Transforms itself into a sword increasing the attack power of any weapon using digimon that wields it by twenty-five percent and allowing them to use the Dawn Slash ability -Cas Uses Beserker Protocol on Cloak -Cloak wielding the Twenty Sword uses Fire's Edge: Covers its weapon in flames and strikes at the enemy's head.

Even if Cassandra wanted to, the Digmon was likely beyond help as it was. Even with that medical symbol worn tight around the feline's arm, Mikemon didn't hesitate to show no mercy to the armored Digmon - one that would have normally been able to dig underground with ease, but instead floundered, frustratingly trying to dig itself free with its drills. They had to be quick and decisive - this larger Digimon definitely had the advantage in an extended fight.
Fortunately, it didn't take long for Cassandra to get the point! The feline stepped back, once more charing a 'blazing fire' between his fangs, just to disorient the Digmon should it manage to raise its head. Cloak and Dagger quickly proved it unnecessary, as Cloak found himself empowered by both his twin and his tamer. That one slash struck the back of the Digmon's head - and with the aid of both the flame and the 'Berserker' card, the pair would manage to swipe right through the metallic armor of the insect!
The Digmon blindly writhed in place for a second or two, before collapsing once more on its front side. A moment later, red dust began rising from its body, the fallen Digmon's data starting to strip away.
"... Oh thank Sovereign, its f---ing over..." Muttering, audibly enough for Cassandra to hear, the Mikemon bit down on that energy once more, the 'blazing fire' dissipating with a pop. The cat fell on his left knee, resting one paw on his right as he bent over, trying to catch his breath. Just how long had that insect been chasing him for?
"Sorry... about dragging... you into... that..." It looked like he needed a minute, but this probably worked out. After all, Cassandra probably had more than a few questions.
And some might be related to the Digmon!

The Twenty-Sword cleaved deep into the Digmon, the blade striking hard and striking true as the flames melted the armor and left the twin's enemies in it's death throes. Cloak landed lightly on his feet bringing the gleaming blade around to flick the little bit of data that clung to the razors edge of the weapon off before he smoothed his sleeved palm over the flat of the blade as a swordsman would before sheathing it. Turning to face his tamer the rookie nodded solemnly.
"It is done." The Kotemon spoke his word filled with a sort of regal pride having succeeded in the face of Cassandra's defense. However, the striking image the digimon cut was quickly ruined as the sword within his hands glowed as Dagger returned to his normal form sending the Zubamon crashing atop his twin with a cheer.
"We won!" He yelled lifting a clawed paw to the sky even as he tried to disentangle himself from his brother leaving Cloak in the dirt as he scrambled off his twin and bounced over to Cas.
"We won! We won! Did you see how epic we were Cas!" Dagger called out circling his tamer in excitement almost vibrating with pride as he danced around her. On the ground Cloak slowly sat up and tried to dust himself off looking more like a tree had fallen on him then almost on his tamer as he got to his feet, retrieved his sword, and shuffled over to Cas. Looping his sleeved arms about her knee he pressed his helmeted face against her outer thigh, closed his eyes, and breathed.
"Yes I saw Dagger. You both did amazing." Cas cooed a slow smile blooming across her face as the tension slowly bled from her shoulders. "Wow you two are getting tall." She muttered smoothing a hand over Cloak's helmeted head feeling the little digimon shaking slightly where he clung to her. The realization of how close she'd come to being injured or killed right in front of them had sunk in for him far faster then his excitable and scatterbrained twin.
"It's ok. I'm ok." She murmured softly as she felt him relax a touch, but the Kotemon made no move to release her anytime soon. Even as Cas half bent to scoop Dagger up under one arm with a soft laugh.
"Enough!" She laughed shaking her head. "You're making me dizzy with all that dancing around." Cas added with a chuckle before turning to look at the cat digimon and glancing between him and the dissolving Digmon with a frown.
"It's fine. With our luck we were bound to run into something hostile. Will it...will it be ok now? I know I was told digimon don't really die...but..." She spoke the question lingering between them in the air not fully spoken.

Right, right - let these new Rookies have their moment. As Kotemon struck a pose, and as Zubamon broke out in jubilation, Mikemon couldn't help but give a smile of his own. It took a little help, but the two had done well - both to defend their tamer, and to take down the rabid Digimon in front of them. Well, so long as those 'pointy' Digimon weren't bouncing over in his direction, he'd just take the moment to catch his breath.
"Heh. Energetic ones, aren't they?" The Mikemon couldn't help but quip that one remark, as Cassandra laughed alongside her Digimon. His good ear gave a twitch, though, as that particular question hit his ear: would the Digmon be okay?
"Hm... you haven't been in our world for long, have you?" The question was more rhetorical in tone, but the Mikemon was more than willing to answer: "Its not that we can't die, but our data returns to the world when we do. Those that turn back into data are born anew in Primary Village - sometimes as an entirely different Digimon. But that beetle was already on death's door as it was."
How did he mean? "I'll explain that once we get out of the open. Now are you three alright?" Just as he said that, the cat gave a wince, his paw quickly moving up to cover that newly-split ear. "I've set up camp a little east of here. Don't worry, over there, another one of those bugs isn't going to jump us."
He seemed confident enough in his tone, at least!

"You have no idea..." Cas sighed at Mikemon's comment over her excitable partners even as she bent to carefully scoop up Cloak as the Kotemon transferred his grip around her leg to her shoulders and proceeded to bury his face against her neck as he wrapped his legs around her waist clinging to her as Dagger ceased his excited wriggling she let him down. Using her now free hand to pat Cloak on the back as Dagger eyed his sibling worriedly.
"I see. That's....good I guess. I hope it has better luck now with a fresh start." Cas murmured looking upon the dissolving digimon with pity even if she felt a little better knowing they had put the poor creature out of it's misery. At the cat digimon's question of whether the three of them were all right the Doctor nodded. Dagger though seeming to suddenly realize that injury had been a possibility for his tamer let out a strangled squeek and patted Cas down with his clawed hands looking for any injuries.
"Are you sure you're ok Cas! It didn't hurt you any did it!?" The Zubamon exclaimed even as Cassandra caught his hand and shook her head.
"I'm fine." She spoke her tone firm as she gave Daggers hand a little squeeze. "I'm fine. No harm done." She adds a bit gentler as Dagger seems to deflate with a sigh.
"I'm sure you and Cloak would of ripped it to bits if anything other then at tree had come after me." Cas assures the two her words at least garnering some of Cloaks attention as he leans back somehow managing to look both haughty and affronted with it's helmet on at the mere idea that they'd let anything hurt her.
"Of course Hime." He stated, no room for argument in his mind when it came to her defense even as Dagger puffed himself up.
"Wouldn't have stood a chance." Dagger confirms as Cas turns her attention back to the cat digimon with a smile.
"Sorry we haven't introduced ourselves. I'm Doctor Cassandra Cross, but you can call me Cas. These two are my partners Cloak and Dagger." She explains nodding to each digimon in turn or trying to when it comes to Cloak who despite his pride is still clinging to her determinedly.
"We'd love to join you at your camp seeing as we err....seem to have lost ours." Cas murmurs glancing around as she realizes that she hasn't really any idea where she is. She could try to back track, but the sun would be setting soon and wandering in the woods in the dark with possible hostile digimon seems like a bad idea.
"I can stitch your ear up if you'd like when we get there. That can't be comfortable." She adds nodding to his injured appendage with a frown.
