Sunlight filtered through the trees as a light breeze pushed clouds along at a lazy pace. Occasionally the clouds eclipsed the sun and put an end to the dancing patterns of light and shadow that decorated the well-traveled path a certain trio were using. The very edges of the path were bumpy with roots from the grand old trees that lined the path, but the middle was smoothly beaten dirt, a sign that this particular trail saw a lot of traffic.
"This is dumb." Roger 's grumble broke the quiet as he followed along behind Hiroyo. The Kunemon was 'walking' beside her, his legs moving in waves as they dragged him along. The droop of his antenna and the way he carried himself screamed 'i don't want to be here' loud enough that only the most unobservant would miss it. Whatever Hiroyo had planned he sure didn't want to be a part of it. "They probably won't even let us in the village! Weren't we going to go see Andromon anyways?"
"That can wait. We need to repay the Village for taking care of you two!" Hiroyo said as she spared the electric caterpillar a glance. She was dressed in shorts and a floral pattern t-shirt today. The duffel bag hanging off her left shoulder implied she had probably visited the gym before her excursion to the Digital World. It would have been a correct assumption to make! She had a determined set to her jaw and her shoulders were tense beneath the light shirt. It wasn't surprising really, Roger was doing his best to get on her nerves and force her to give up the current path.
Too bad that only made her more determined!

"Falcomon," Iki said as he walked. "Give me more information on the Village of Beginnings."
"The Village of Beginnings is very important to the Digimon of the Digital World," Falcomon explained to Iki. "After a Digimon dies, it is reborn as a Digi-Egg and is sent to the village. After it hatches, it is raised and cared for until the Digimon digivolves into a form that's ready to head out of the village on its own free will. It is a very important place."
"Yeah, sounds so," Iki agreed with his spirit. "What would happen if a Digimon suddenly attacked the village? Is there anyone there who can protect it?"
"Well, I do not know..." Falcomon admits. "I'm sure someone is there to make sure no intruders try to break in."
"Like them?" Iki asks, pointing towards a girl, a Kunemon and a FanBeemon. He decided to walk up to the trio. "What do you think you're doing?"

Roger perked up immediately when he sensed the other human because someone who wasn't Hiroyo had an excellent chance of being not awful to be around! His antenna twitched excitedly at Iki's rather rude demand for information. The Kunemon had already put Hiroyo in a pissed off mood, he couldn't image her taking this well!
"You realize it's rude to point, right? And it isn't a good idea to go around treating people like criminals!" Hiroyo asked as she put her hands on her hips and stared back at him. Normally she probably wouldn't have minded such a direct question, but with the way her nerves were frayed that wasn't happening. She glanced up and down him with a frown and a look that said she was decidedly unimpressed. "It should be obvious we're going to the Village of Beginnings but if you don't know you must be new. Or stupid. Maybe both?" She flipped a hand dismissively, as if the question, and he, weren't worth her time.
Morgan sighed as he hovered off to the side, his antenna twitching as Roger's beak opened ever so slightly in a grin. Perhaps he should have reigned in his brother's behavior on the way over. Alas, it was too late to do anything about it now, especially since Hiroyo was proving that she could be just as good at pissing people off as Roger. This wasn't going to end well, was it?

Surprisingly, Iki backed down after Hiroyo explained (rather bluntly) that they weren't criminals. Not in a cowardish way but in a "oh I understand" way.
"I apologize," Iki says, holding his right gloved hand up.. "I was just wondering what you three were doing here, is all. This village is for the newborn Digimon after all, correct? I have some business here I need to attend myself, and I assume that they aren't really letting just anybody in."
"Good for the newborns, however," Falcomon commented.
Iki noticed the two individual bug Digimon's behavior. The one with the blue beak seemed headstrong, confident and brash, while the flying one seemed like it was annoyed. Probably afraid or something. "Don't worry, I'm not here to fight. Unless you're in my way somehow."
"Anyways, my name's Iki," Iki introduced himself. "I'm looking for something... interesting, that I was told I could potentially find in the Village of Beginnings. Are you familiar with the concept of Digimon Spirits?"

The red-haired woman took a deep breath as Iki apologized and closed her eyes for a moment. She listened quietly to his questions, suddenly feeling ashamed of herself because it sounded like he was new.
Which meant she was as terrible of a person as Roger liked to call her.
"I should not have answered rudely." She said as she opened her eyes and gave him a small smile. She looked contrite. She uncrossed her arms and let them drop to her sides. "It sounds like you have the basics down! It's full of newborn 'mons from what I've heard, and there's at least three caretakers as well."
Roger's entire demeanor would immediately deflate as Iki mentioned he wasn't there for a fight. He'd even go so far as to sigh dramatically and flop onto his side as the humans talked. "Bo~ring~"
Morgan nodded towards Iki, his expression lightening into something less worried as he landed on the path again. "I am pleased to hear it. I am Morgan, this is my brother Roger." Morgan gestured to the Kunemon when he was named, although all Roger did was flop onto his side.
Hiroyo rolled her eyes at Roger's behavior and nudged him a little with her foot. "I'm sorry, please don't pay attention to him! He's convinced if someone's life isn't at stake then he'll die from boredom. I'm Hiroyo, it is nice to meet another human out here!" She tilted her head when he mentioned he was looking for something but her face immediately lit up with a smile when he mentioned Digimon Spirits. "Yes actually! I have a couple of friends who are Spirit Users, I'm presuming that's what you are?"

Iki smiled (oddly) and held up his green D-Tector. "Yes, I am indeed a Spirit User. Although I haven't found my spirits quite yet. So far there's only my sprite, Falcomon. I assume you're what is known as a Twin Tamer, then."
Falcomon looked in worry and a bit of frustration at Roger. "Perfect," he muttered. "Another Digimon who only cares about fighting, regardless of the many other methods a conflict could be solved."
Iki looked right at Roger. "By the way, Roger, Falcomon doesn't like you."
"WHAT?!" Falcomon's eyes went wide. "Why would you tell him that?!"
Iki shrugged. "Deal with it. You're already dead to begin with." He then turned to Hiroyo. "Like I was saying, I heard a rumor that the spirit of the Wing Guardian Angemon might be residing in the Village of Beginnings. Do you happen to know if there's a way in? It could just be a rumor, but I have to search anyways..." Flashbacks of that one night came throttling back to him. "I have to..."

"Yeah! Twins indeed! Even if they are fraternal." Hiroyo's smile grew brittle as she reached up to rub the back of her head, her speech oddly clipped as she managed to get past that awkward bit of acknowledging what she supposedly was as quickly as possible. Too bad meeting someone's Sprite spirit was also awkward! "It's ah, nice to meet you Falcomon!"
She paused as Iki looked at Roger, a grin spreading across her face. "I absolutely agree one-hundred-percent with Falcomon!"
Roger picked his head up enough to roll it around in a fair approximation of how he would if he had eyes. He clearly was unimpressed by the the sprite spirit's feelings. "Oh boo-hoo-hoo. He clearly hasn't got the spirit to even be reborn!"
Hiroyo squinted down at the yellow and black worm, her expression suspicious. "Was that, were those puns in that insult?"
"Roger and I actually recently came from the Village of Beginnings, about two months ago." Morgan was quick to butt in because he knew what the outcome would be if Roger got really started with the terrible word play. His voice was quiet and steady despite being rushed. "While I do believe they are picky about who is allowed in and out of the village, it is not as if they officially have a ban on visitors." The Fanbeemon was careful to stress that word. "They will, however, ban visitors on an individual basis."
"Like these two!" Hiroyo chimed in, pointing a thumb at each of the bugs beside her. "Apparently before I met them they were confined to the village for quite a while. With Roger being the way he is...well, you can probably imagine how he got himself banned!" She shook her head in disapproval and readjusted the strap of her duffel bag. She seemed oddly unconcerned with whatever it was Roger had done so it at least didn't involve death. "We are actually on the way to see if we can do some...community service to make up for the antics. We could travel together if you want? This path is suppose to go near there, it's just a matter of finding which little side branch goes to it!"

"It is a pleasure to meet you too, Hiroyo," Falcomon said, doing a bow. Iki then repeated what Falcomon had said, although he didn't bow. "And for the record, I did NOT say that I didn't like the Kunemon here! Never of the sort!"
"Yeah, Falcomon's glad you agree with him," Iki said with a straight face, causing Falcomon to sigh and sweatdrop. "And don't test us, Roger. We can still Spirit Evolve and- wait, what the hell did you say?" Iki was caught off guard by the terrible pun that came out of the Kunemon's mouth. "That... is a terrible pun."
Iki sighed after Morgan and Hiroyo explained their story. "I definitely believed that the Kunemon would be banned, but Fanbeemon seems... okay, as far as I can tell. Sounds like he was unfairly paired together for your Kunemon's misbehavior. And I'll have to decline your offer. I'm here to look for my Spirit, not to make friends."

Hiroyo rolled her eyes as Iki went from threatening Roger to catching onto the pun. "He's supposedly a fan of all kinds of fighting, including verbal ones! I don't know how this counts as a 'fight' but, well..." She trailed off helplessly as she gestured to Roger who was cackling to himself.
"Three points to me!"
"Yeah, no, I think you win by being the only one playing. I'm pretty sure all those fights have knocked a few screws loose." Hiroyo told the bug, nudging him again with her foot. It didn't seem to put a damper on the Kunemon's spirit however! She rolled her eyes at his behavior. "Fanbeemon is Morgan, and I wouldn't really call either of them 'mine'. Its more like, a mutually beneficial partnership!"
"Speaking of such," Morgan cut in with a loud buzz. "even if you do not wish to stick together in the village, travelling there together would be beneficial to you as well as us. There is strength in numbers and even the areas outside the Village are not safe from actually violent hooligans." Hiroyo listened intently to the bee, nodding along with what he said. It made sense to her!
"We'll get there pretty quick because Roger and Morgan have been there before, plus Morgan here can fly ahead to scout out the side paths so we don't take the wrong one. I'm fine with splitting at the village if you really want to, but how about travelling together until we get there?"

"Gee, I wonder who else I know who constantly gets into fights..." Falcomon mutters as he rolls his eyes. Iki decided to ignore him.
"I bet that Kunemon has gotten you three in some situations before," Iki says, crossing his arms. Then they brought up the "safety in numbers" saying.
Iki did have to admit that in an area like this village, there is strength in numbers. Plus, he did not know his way around the village too well, as he has never been here before. Iki then came to the conclusion that he had no choice. "Alright then, I'll follow you three only until I know my way around. My main goal is searching for my spirits."
Iki walked up closer to the trio, up to the entrance of the village. "My guess is that you haven't found your way in yet, right?"

Morgan's eyes narrowed for a moment as Iki said 'that Kunemon'. The Fanbeemon thought he was starting to pick up a pattern from the Spirit User, and he wasn't sure he liked it. Iki would only be with them temporarily so perhaps they could get through this encounter without incident. He was just glad Roger didn't seem to have caught on yet.
"Nope! I'm surprised this gate is here actually, and that we haven't seen anyone! I guess they probably upped security since a lot of weird things have been going on in the Digital World lately." Hiroyo apparently didn't notice anything, she was just happen to have someone besides the bugs to hang around with! Even if it was only for a minute. "You two said there were three guardians, right? A Swanmon, an Elecmon, and something else?"
"Jyureimon!" Roger piped in from his spot on the ground. He seemed quite content to just lay on the ground and not bother with getting up, at least until Hiroyo made him or until a plan of action was decided upon. "He's the top guy around here but he's usually in the middle of town. Sometimes there are volunteers too, but there should be someone. Don't blame me for you being blind!"

"If it were any other place, I'd say break in," Iki says, "but for a place like this, I doubt that that is a good option at all. Maybe if we can somehow alert to the guardians that we're here... if they themselves are here in the first place."
Then Iki stopped as he heard Hiroyo say something about strange things going on. "Hm? Weird things in the Digital World? Like what?"

"Yeah, I don't really want to break in. The guardians would probably assume these two are just here to play another prank." The red head sighed and lifted the bill of her cap to scratch her head. Breaking in was technically possible but as she had stated earlier, probably wasn't the best idea. She glanced over at Morgan who was watching Iki intently for some reason? Weird. "Hey, Morgan, do you remember any other entrances?"
The Fanbeemon snapped his attention to her and then leaned back a little as he thought about it. His memories from being here as a fresh and in-training were fuzzy at best, and any memories from before his rebirth were a lost cause. "It would not make sense to have multiple entrances in case of an emergency. Following this wall should take us to one."
Roger groaned loudly from the grass, clearly not pleased with the prospect of more walking.
"Yeah I suppose that would make sense. There might be someone at another gate." She turned to Iki with a smile, tilting her head when he asked his questions. She gestured along the wall and began walking. "I'll talk as we go! Recently we ran into a weird black spire earlier! We're actually on our way back from it. Some weird ring controlled a Rhinomon, and we and a bunch of other people and Digimon had to take it down!"

"Another?" Iki asked Hiroyo. He looked back down at the mischievous Kunemon and the soft-spoken Fanbeemon. "I just don't see that Fanbeemon pulling pranks, unless it was his brother that caused him to go through with it."
"Iki, I recommend you stop angering the Digimon," Falcomon suggests. "They don't look real happy with being accused of things... or you refusing to call them by name."
As usual, Iki ignored his sprite spirit. Iki decided to follow Hiroyo to the entrance, and then she brought up weird black spires.
"A control spire?" Iki asks, intrigued. "Yeah, I've seen a couple of those. They just appear randomly throughout the world, and these rings attach themselves to nearby Digimon, causing them to go berserk. Neither the rings nor the control spire go down easily, and they cause Digimon to revert to previous forms, and causes me to lose the ability to Spirit Evolve. I think it's best to stay away from those things..." Iki had no idea that Hiroyo had actually succeeded in destroying one...

Morgan was positive that he knew what Iki's problem was now. It was rare to find humans who were so anti-Digimon these days, most of the ones who so openly carried that kind of attitude were quickly dissuaded. Or at least they learned to hide it better. The worst part, however, wasn't Iki's words or actions.
It was probably Hiroyo's complete lack of notice.
"You'd be surprised! They're brothers so they are each other's best partners in trouble!" Her smile as she spoke was a little strained. She could appreciate sibling team-work! Just, she could appreciate it more if it hadn't been aimed against her so much.
"Ahaha, yeess! You would be surprised what Morgan[/i] will go along with when I'm planning!" Roger said. He rolled to his feet and straightened up, facing towards Iki. His beak was partly open in a smile that wasn't completely friendly. "Like when we took down the Dark Spire with the other digimon while Hiroyo stood and watched."
Morgan sighed heavily from his place in the air.
