Lost in the Swamp [Cole/Invite]

Luke the Elecmon was normally very patient with his brother when it came to dealing with his little quirks and grievances. He could completely understand Bellamy's hydrophobia, given that it not only made his fire attacks useless, but he had nearly drowned once in an icy lake near Snowflake Village and eaten by a Gesomon in a murky river in Old Terminus. But in Luke's opinion, the Impmon's reaction to being told that their next journey would take place in the Backup Bayou was bordering on ridiculous.
It seemed that this was an area that was only recently rediscovered, and that brought a lot of curious eyes to the area, particularly the sunken ruins that were said to hold much lost treasure. It was inevitable that a team as mobile as that of Luke's partner Colin James would be hired to investigate the area. But with Bellamy's paranoia of meeting his death in a watery or muddy grave, this made things rather difficult. The first trial was to convince him to step down from the airship at the border of the bayou. The second was to convince him that he didn't need diving gear to survive as long as they stuck to the main paths. And the third trial was to convince him that at the end of the day he'd get a long, warm bath and massage rather than emerging from the swamps with his fur caked with mud. This coming from the digimon who wore the armor of Tenacity? Well, Luke supposed that Bellamy could get away with some weak points.
And so, the trio made their way into the area, making sure to keep to the dry solid paths that were thankfully clearly marked. Although Luke could understand Bellamy's insistence of a wash after this. The ground was quite damp, and after only a few minutes he could see that his own feet were quite dirty from the damp soil.
Their trudge through the swamp in the end, however, was rewarded after a while. There they were - ancient red stone structures, most of them half buried in the dirt. For now, the mud seemed to be abated, but, still, Bellamy held back.
"Buildings don't sink like that if there ain't quicksand or somethin' like that around" he said.
"...yes they do, Bellamy" Luke answered, trying to be patient. "But... wow, this is fascinating. I haven't seen anything like this since we visited that cave up in the north..."
"Don't remind me" Bellamy muttered, wanting to not have to deal with something like that again. "So, what we doin' now that we're here?"
"Look for an entrance of course" Colin reasoned. And this they did, looking around the various stone structures to try and get a proper feel of the place. "So what do you make of it so far, Luke?" Colin asked his partner.
"Well... it definitely looks like it used to be a big civilization" Luke said. "It's near a waterway - there" he pointed across the ruins to a large passing river, high reeds marking its bank. "But... seems like something happened that caused it to be abandoned, that's my take... these buildings, they're so weathered away it's like they got no maintenance at all. Something caused the digimon here to disappear".
"Huh, so all the more reason for us not to be here, huh?" Bellamy drawled. Luke ignored him for now, for he had seen something interesting.
"Ah! There's an entrance over there!" he said, pointing to what looked like some kind of temple. Curiously, the Elecmon approached. He should have done so more cautiously, as the ruins were protected by ancient seals. One such effect of the seal, it seemed, was to physically repel trespassers.
And not only 'repel' as in 'prevent entry', but 'repel' as 'physically repulse them at high speed backward for several hundred feet'. And thus, with nothing more than a gasp, the Elecmon was launched with a blast of yellow energy the moment he touched that door. For a few seconds he was in a state of utter shock as wind blew hard through his fur, the sight of Colin and Bellamy's shocked faces soon disappearing as he flew high over the swamp, then, once he realized what was happening, screamed with terror as the land below soon rose to catch him. For a moment he was terrified of landing in something fatal, but, for the moment, seemed to be spared by splashing down in a muddy pool.
Luke frantically returned to the surface, flailing his paws. For a moment he felt something slimy rub on him. He was so terrified that he let off an electric shock from his tail feathers by reflex, electrifying the water around him, thankfully removing whatever was there.
He broke the surface, then paddled the best he could back to the shore. It seemed he had landed in a small muddy pond - separated from the main river systems. Briefly, he looked down at his front, panting and trembling from the trauma of what just happened. His fur was filthy now, and wet too, making him look skinny and kind of pathetic. He shook himself dry as best he could, but then, when the adrenaline went, realized just how vulnerable he was. His partner and brother were a distance away now. And it seemed that he was alone, in his rookie form, highly vulnerable. But he'd take the chance, they could already be in the air looking for him.
"COLIN?!" Luke shouted at the top of his lungs. "BELLAMY?!". Here he was, alone in the swamp - damp and terrified.

The Digital World...is was still a strange place to the young man, but over the past week he'd gotten more used to it. Having enabled his Digiport days ago, the man could freely come too and from as he pleased without having to go through the...rough circumstances he and his peers had endured to get here originally. Cole Archer had gone through quite the week, from every day life knowing nothing of the existence of this other world and its inhabitants, to falling through a portal--meeting Tsukihikari as she was under attack by a huge monster he knew nothing of--and within a day or so finding out his older sister was trapped in the Digital World the whole nigh decade the young man thought her dead.
At least Cole was prepared now. That was a relief. The man had switched out his usual converse high tops for some boots--probably a good thing seeing as him and his partner Tsukihikari approached a swamp--and now had a couple hidden 'fanny pouches' along his beltline with his gear--his dark gray button up shirt covered it as well as the man's tattoo'd arms and shoulders, his sleeveless white undershirt covering the rest of his torso and carefully tucked under it was his sister's necklace. He'd walk with his hands in his pockets, ever alert for danger in this strange land--jade hues shifting about to keep watch and his ears open. Tsuki followed beside the man, eyes and ears equally open. She kept her cheery smile, stark contrast to the neutral--almost disgruntled look of Cole.
"Cole dear--we're entering the Backup Bayou. Best to keep sharp." Tsuki would inform Cole, looking around as the two followed a path. She'd sniff the air--bright blue orbs of the BlackGabumon blinking. "Someones been through here recently, smells like...three scents--two Digimon and another human..." she'd tell him, looking over curiously for the tall man's response. Tsuki's tracking skills did come in handy, paired with that nose--hard to get past her. Cole's jade hues glanced over to Tsuki. "Another human? I thought you said we was rare in the Digital World, that'd be what...the 4th? 5th? In a week?" Cole questioned. Tsuki nodded--agreeing it was strange. Coles hues turned back to keep watch, the man sighing. "Hopefully this one will be friendly..." he'd comment--a slight remark to his earlier encounter with one Iki Story.
They'd walk along the path, careful to stick to it, Cole unlike the group who came through just earlier wasn't in search of ruins--simply in search of something more urgent. Cole was on a mission, he needed to find his sister Scarlet...he needed to make sure she was safe. It kept him off his A-game, the man missing the first sound to echo through the bayou. Tsuki's ears perked up, and she stopped--Cole took a second to stop but he did as well, turning around to look back at Tsuki. "Hm?"
"I heard something." Tsuki said, she wasn't sure what it was but it caught her attention, the Digimon all ears now to pick up anything else. Another sound--this time she heard it much more clearly and could tell its direction. "...Bell...amy...hm--whoever it is sounds like they're scared...maybe we...should--...." she stopped herself before finishing her sentence, looking to Cole. Cole sighed, but nodded...he didn't like going out of his way to help others, especially when he had his own issues and goals to deal with...but the man still had a good heart under that thick skin. He couldn't not help...
"Lets go." Cole said, Tsuki nodding and quickly taking off away from the path, Cole giving chase as they would try to run through the muddy swamp. This slowed them down, it took a few minutes, but soon enough the pair would find a new path and pick up their pace. Tsuki sniffed, trying to see if she could catch the scent of anyone--human or Digimon--and with a small wiff she turned, adjusting their direction to the correct course. Cole tried to keep up with the Digimon, even being 6'2" with long athletic legs the man struggled to keep up with Tsuki's impressive speed for just a Rookie tier Digimon. After a few moments the two would burst into a small clearing, filled with a muddy pool. Across from them the two could see a figure--red fur dirtied by mud and soaked, and a frightened expression crossing the Digimon's face.
Tsuki and Cole halted in their tracks, unsure if they'd be attacked. Tsuki was quick to identify the Digimon--"Its an Elecmon. He looks scared Cole...I think it's the same one I smelled along with the human and other Digimon earlier..." she'd say quietly. Cole nodded and would slowly take a few steps to circle around the pond, Tsuki trying to grab his belt to stop him but her grasp slipping--Cole keeping an eye on Luke and making his approach very slow, even stopping after a moment. He took a nervous breath before calling out to the red fur'd Digimon.
"H-hey there...Was you who was yelling earlier? We're not here to fight or hurt you--we just wanted to make sure everything was ok..." Cole said loud enough for Luke to hear if their less then quiet approach hadn't already been obviously noticed--but soft enough as to not sound threatening or scare the Elecmon anymore then it seemed to be. He was nervous around other Digimon. Cole remained where he was, say 15 feet from Luke a quarter way around the pond Luke had just crawled out of. Tsuki would slowly step around, joining Cole. "Elecmon I heard someone calling a name, thats why we came. I'm Tsukihikari, you can call me Tsuki, and this is Cole--whats your name? We just wanna make sure you're alright dear, please don't fear us.." she asked, trying to keep the frightened 'mon calm. She gave Luke a sweet but concerned smile as she spoke soothingly.

Luke tried to calm himself through some deep breaths. Okay, he had to keep his head here. First off - the situation. He hadn't fallen far from Colin, and his partner had a radar function on his digivice to find him if they were separated, like it had worked finding Bellamy back in Old Terminus. So perhaps shouting constantly might not be that useful. Perhaps set off a lightning bolt every so often? Although... given his experience in the swamp so far, that might just summon trouble.
Second, huh... he realized that he had just swum for the first time. He always thought he'd be unable to and flail around like Bellamy, but, perhaps instincts took over in that moment? And at least he had received a soft landing too. And better yet, hadn't landed in a quagmire. While he knew the truth that it was impossible to sink all the way down - falling into it was a different story.
Luke took off the blue scarf he wore around his neck and sighed at its state, wringing it dry. Man, after this, Bellamy better let him use the warm bath first. He put the scarf back on.
The thoughts about almost certain rescue by his partner and brother calmed him, but he felt scared again by hearing something approaching. He was very vulnerable here. Should he hide? But where? He wasn't going back in the muddy water, that's for sure. But, before he could find a place to run from, it was too late. But the sight of another rookie level digimon and a human made him stop trembling. Hopefully they would be friendly.
The human approached slowly. Luke cleared his throat to speak, then gave a small wave. "Hi there" he said. "Yeah, that was me... I, uh, kinda had an accident and got separated from my partner and my brother" he answered.
Luke then realized that he had probably appeared so terrified that they thought he was in the state of a frightened helpless animal. Well, that had only been true for a moment, but Luke had faced worse trials than this.
"My name's Luke, and, well, thanks for your concern. I think I'm okay now" he said. "Just... got a bit of a nasty shock, you see".
Now that they were introduced, Luke glanced back at the muddy pond, thinking he could see something just under the surface. "Ah, maybe we could keep a bit away from the pond? I think there's something in there that we don't really want to meet" he said. "Also, uh, we should probably watch our steps, this place can be, uh, hazardous..." he scratched the back of his head nervously.

Cole was careful to be safe when around unknown Digimon, but as Luke would raise his hand...er...paw? To wave, Cole sighed a breath of relief. Alright, this Digimon seemed friendly enough. Hearing the Digimon speak of getting seperated from his 'partner' and brother would also confirm Tsuki's idea that this was one of the three she smelled earlier back on the main path coming into the bayou. Cole's shoulders would somewhat sink as he relaxed a little, listening to Luke introduce himself and somewhat further explain what happened. He'd nod after hearing about him having went through a bit of a nasty shock.
"Well its good you're ok Luke." Tsuki would say with a smile, as her ear towards the lake sort of burned and the smile dropped--about the time Luke would express his warning about the pond. Tsuki had the same feeling, blue eyes glancing to it and her beginning to push Cole a bit more over to Luke and away from the pond. Cole simply went along with it, the three coming to form a small group. "Yeah this isn't the place to be traveling alone in--I can agree. You said you got separated from your partner and brother right? They'll probably be looking for you, we don't mind stickin' with you until we can find them. Always safer in numbers, right?" Cole would say, offering the Elecmon a rare smile. Cole usually wasn't the friendliest, he could be an outright jerk at times...but no one could deny he had a heart of gold.
"Here, I know its not a towel but..." Cole said, slipping off his button up shirt, leaving him in just his sleeveless white top and revealing an interesting mural of ink running up his arm--across his shoulders--and to his back. He'd offer the shirt to Luke to use as something to help dry off and clean off some of the mud from his fur...wouldn't be the first shirt he lost in this place. Tsuki was keeping her eyes peeled, her and Luke seemed to have the same sentiment towards the pond and the area. "Maybe we should continue this discussion somewhere more safe, boys?" she'd say, glancing between the tall human and the red furred Elecmon. Cole looked back to Tsuki and sighed, nodding. He'd turn and start walking a good way around the pond and back towards a path he saw on the way to this spot--Tsuki motioning for Luke to follow as she tailed her partner. Question was would whatever may or may not have lurked bellow the murky depths would let them walk away so easily...

Luke found that being separated from Colin and Bellamy made him a little shy and awkward. Normally Bellamy would make some compliment or joke that'd break the ice and Colin would get down to business with the human, so, in their absence, Luke found he was a little lost for words for the moment.
"Ah, thanks, that's nice of you" Luke said at the offer of travelling together, at least for the moment. He glanced in the direction that he had come from, wondering if Colin had evolved Bellamy so they could search faster. If not, well, that would mean they'd be searching longer. And Luke really didn't want to be left alone.
He was surprised when Cole took off his shirt and offered him to use it to dry himself off. "Oh, gosh... you really don't have to..." Luke said. The bayou wasn't cold - in fact rather warm and humid. But still, the feeling of dampness and dirtiness was really uncomfortable. Eventually, Luke would accept the offer, taking the shirt and dried off the worst of the dampness, careful not to be too rough. Eventually his red and white fur was a bit more clean, but it would take a proper bath with clean water to get the rest of the muck off. The shirt, however, was now equally damp and dirty.
Luke couldn't help but notice Cole's markings. That was interesting. He hadn't known humans to decorate their bodies like that. Although the only humans he had seen without clothes was Colin, who would often return to his room from the shower with a towel around his waist. But it would probably be rude to comment.
"Thanks, and sorry... I'd be happy to buy you a new shirt later" he said, returning the garment. With his fur mostly dry, it looked like there was a bit more bulk to him as it fluffed up a little again.
With that done, Luke nodded and followed Tsuki and Cole back along the path, but not before something in the water bubbled behind them. Luke turned with horror and looked to see something rising from the water.
It was something with a mess of strange seaweed-like green hair, slimy green skin, and lugging along a huge spiked green shell. Luke gasped. Was that the thing that had touched him under the water?
"Oh my god... a Mori Shellmon!" he exclaimed. There was nothing else for it, he couldn't fight something like that, not in his current form. "Run!" he encouraged Cole and Tsuki, hoping they could outrun this thing on land. He leaned down and ran on all fours, desperately trying to get out of range.
"Grrr! You think you can interrupt my sleep by zapping me you little rodent?!" the MoriShellmon growled, then lowered his head with an expression of malice. "Swamp Shot!"
At once, he launched a high pressure blast of green water straight at Luke. Mori Shellmon seemed to be a decent shot, since it hit Luke in the leg and made him trip and fall down. This certainly wasn't his day. The only advantage to this situation was that he was small and light enough to be easily carried.

The young man handed Luke the shirt as the small group walked away from the pond, hearing the Elecmon mention he'd get him a new one. It'd prompt Cole to simply shake his head, he wasn't too worried about it. "Don't worry about it Luke, not the first shirt I've lost here. I got more at home--just toss it..." he said, turning and giving a shrug instead of taking the now muddy shirt back. Tsuki watched the exchange between the two guys, giggling a bit--unable to help herself. "Sometimes I think he's nicer to Digimon then he is to humans." the BlackGabumon commented towards the two, prompting Cole to look over with a confused look. "Huh?"...He didn't see it but Tsuki could, maybe it was just the man was so jaded with human life that he found himself being more friendly with these new creatures in his life.
Tsuki was seemingly about to respond when her ears burned, dropping in instant concern with the sound of something bubbling up behind them. She'd turn likely sync'd with Luke, eyes likewise filling with pure horror as they took in the seaweed like hair and thick shell of the Champion tier Digimon whom sprung from the pond behind them. "A-...ah..." she'd try to get something out but was at a loss for words--luckily Luke found the word she looked for. Run. Cole had not been paying attention nor was his human ears sharp enough to pick up the sounds behind them, the man would only take notice as he heard both Tsuki and Luke say something, the man blinking as the word 'Run' burned in his ears. 'Run?' he thought, turning around just in time to have Luke and Tsuki bolt past him on either side--as he turned he questioned what was going on--but it became quickly apparent what was going on. "A Mori Shwhat-a-mon--SH--...WHAT IS THAT THING?!" he burst out as fear filled his features. Maybe if he listened better he'd know. That inner 'gogglehead' was really starting to come out of Cole...
He'd almost stand frozen as he watched the large monstrous Mori Shellmon speak, angered words echoing through the bayou. Finally the 'fight or flight' feeling hit him, finding his feet the man turned and ran--decision made--long legs accelerating him pretty quickly, but at this point he was a good 20 feet behind the two likely even faster on their feet Digimon. Tsuki paralleled Luke, the nimble BlackGabumon was rather swift on her feet for only using two of them to run...despite having a total of six appendages, seven if you counted her tail--she was equally as fast as the quadruped Elecmon in this moment.
The echo of an attack being called out would prompt Cole to look over his shoulder--finding a blast of rather nasty appearing water flying his way fast. His eyes spread wide as he kept running, gritting his teeth. He waited for just the right moment--quickly tucking and rolling and letting the attack fly right over him before he sprung right back to his feet, never stopping his forward moment during the roll. He almost wanted to look back and tease the Mori Shellmon for missing, even smirking cockily a brief moment, but it dropped as he witnessed the attack fly ahead of him, landing a direct strike to Luke's leg, causing the Elecmon to take a rough tumble across the ground, coming to a stop. Tsuki had not noticed Luke was no longer beside her until she got about 15 feet ahead, suddenly she'd stop and turn to look at them--fear welling in her expression and voice. "Luke!" she cried.
But to her relief, even giving the BlackGabumon a faint smile, no sooner then she had cried out in fear for the digimon's safety, Cole had run up and on the fly grabbed Luke right off the ground--tucking the red furred Digimon to his chest as he grit his teeth and pushed himself to run as fast as his lengthy legs and adrenaline would carry him while carrying Luke. Luckily on two parts, Cole was no small guy--6'2" and 186lbs of nearly all muscle, and Luke was a rather light Digimon, able to be picked up by a child let alone a full grown man. So this didn't slow him much, the man just making sure to keep a good grasp of Luke as he sprinted--Tsuki continuing to run once the two caught up to her. "Is your leg ok?" Cole asked Luke between breaths, first glancing down to him, then quickly his jaded jade hues shifted back over his shoulder to see if any more attacks was coming their way, or if the Mori Shellmon was giving full on chase of the group. "The hell is that things problem?" "He's a Mori Shellmon--I've never met one that wasn't a grump." Tsuki quickly responded. All they could do for now is run, it was unlikely two Rookie tier could take on the Champion, Tsuki flat out had not been able to Digivolve yet, and Luke was out of luck without Colin around. Cole grit his teeth, hoping they could get away...or didn't run right into another equal threat.

Luke couldn't help but give a small smile at that gallantry. He'd drop it for now, but, he wouldn't forget a favor like this. Besides, their group had no troubles with money, being part of the PROFIT organization. Of course they'd be happy to recompense Cole for his generosity.
With Luke's sensitive long rabbit ears he of course overheard Tsuki's remark, but pretended he hadn't. That wasn't his business. But he could understand, some humans seemed to be more less intimidated by what they saw as small talking animals than other humans and tended to drop their defenses a bit. While he was of course no expert on the subject, it was simply an observation he had picked up.
The appearance of the MoriShellmon put all of this aside for now, for the moment Luke was running for dear life. When he was hit by the Swamp Shot, he instantly regretted not zig-zagging in his panic. But the damage had been done now. While on surface it was only water, it had hit him with such force that his leg felt numb from the impact. While not broken, he wouldn't be able to use it for a short while.
Then there was the fact that he certainly couldn't outrun MoriShellmon with just three working legs. The panic he had felt moments ago returned at once. Would his only choice be to stand and fight? How could he do that? Well, the MoriShellmon was hopefully weak to electric attacks so maybe he could make a stand... but thankfully it didn't come to this. He was picked up by Cole, who had dodged the Swamp Shot in the first place. Luke didn't struggle against the human carrying him. In fact he was surprised at how easily he could hold him - was he really that light?
For a few moments, Luke simply let himself be carried away from the enemy mollusc digimon, who thankfully figured out he couldn't outrun Cole and Tsuki, and seemed to think it was a better idea to return to his pond, grumbling all the while.
Eventually, the pursuit slowed down, and Luke found the breath to answer. "I can't feel it for the moment" he answered. Perhaps that Swamp Shot acted to paralyze whatever it hit? Either way, it made him rather worried now. He had taken a direct attack from a Champion level as a Rookie... and boy did that feel bad. Not so much the pain, just the fatigue. Rookies couldn't take much more hits like that after all. It was only thanks to Luke's constitution as a digimon capable of biomerging that meant he was probably still alive.
When it was clear the MoriShellmon no longer wanted to deal with them, Luke looked up at Cole. "...you saved me" he said. "Thanks... I... uh... don't know what to say, other than I'm definitely gonna get you a new shirt now". And furthermore, it seemed the paralysis of his leg was fading, now Luke could feel it, and all the pain accompanied by it. "Oh boy, I can feel my leg now" he winced in pain. Still probably not gonna be able to walk on it though.
That was the least of what Cole deserved. "But... are we safe now?" he asked - danger could still approach from any direction in the swamp. If so he'd admit what the beef was. "When I landed in the pond I felt something slimy, and I was scared, so, I let off some electricity to get it away. It worked, but it just pissed him off. Sorry for the trouble".
Luke then supposed he'd best add some more info. "I don't think I've angered anyone else here though". He hoped not.

Cole had checked over his shoulder while running, and to his relief he'd see the Mori Shellmon turn about and return to its pond back off in the distance--apparently it wasn't much for giving chase...maybe for now they was safe. But he still wanted more distance, turning to look forward as he kept going. After getting a bit further away Cole was slowing down as his legs screamed in agony, and he'd get his answer from Luke about the condition of his leg...didn't count great, the man was beginning to wish he had Cas with him right now--her paramedic and vet skills came in handy more often then not. After a good distance Cole's legs was trying to give out on him, finally the man almost stumbled, turning to fall back and let a tree just off the side of the path through the bayou catch his fall, him leaning back against the tree, head tilting back with his eyes shut as he frantically tried catching his breath.
Tsuki dropped to her hands and knees a few feet away, also catching her breath from the long run. After a moment he'd look up with concern to the other two, worried about Luke's leg after hearing he couldn't feel it. Luckily it wasn't broken, nothing staying off it for a bit wouldn't cure. Tsuki pushed herself back up, making sure to check their surroundings in hopes they was alone...and for now it seemed to be the case.
Cole was still breathing heavy as his ear burned with the Elecmon's words. He'd tilt his head back down and look to Luke as he looked up at Cole--the man responding between catching his breath. "Yeah I have a habit of doing that lately--I told you not to worry about it Luke. Besides...'saved' could be subjective in this situation...I don't know if we're just safe yet." Cole said, tilting his head back to let it rest against the tree again as his heart was still racing in his chest. Tsuki sighed looking up to the two boys. "I think we're okay for now...I don't smell anything around here or hear anything. Also, Luke, I know Cole is struggling to say it but he means you're welcome." she'd let Cole and Luke know, trying to answer both their concerns, as well as sort of excuse Cole's rather dismissive answer to Luke trying to thank him for saving him. She sighed, the man's actions showed kindness, now if only he could just work on showing that kindness all the time through words.
Shaking her head she stood up and would step up to Cole and Luke, about the time the Elecmon would explain what the deal with Mori Shellmon was, about how he let out a shock when feeling something slimy on him. Tsuki would chuckle softly. "Its ok I'm sure I would've flipped out and attacked too if I was in your situation, and it even...to an extend excuses Mori Shellmon's reaction, he probably was just trying to relax and you interrupted it. We'll call it a misunderstanding and not worry about it, okay dear?" said the sweet BlackGabumon. Tsuki tended to have that motherly Vibe at times, always reassuring others. Cole finally had been able to regain himself and glanced back down to Luke--who he still had clutched to him. "You gonna be able to walk Luke? If not don't push yourself too--I got ya' if need be..." the man would say, before looking to Tsuki. "Tsuki you think you can track Luke's friend's scent?" "We'd have to go back to the main path where I originally caught the scent, we're too far from it for me to get a wiff here..."

Luke gave a small smile at Cole's words. "Okay... I'll respect that" he said, deciding to drop the subject for now. "And, that's true... but, at least you took me from a near impossible situation to an ambiguous one, that sound fair?".
Luke supposed his brother would've scoffed at all this, but, it was altogether a different story when he was being carried by a big human like this. The urge to smart-talk kinda went down rather a lot.
Tsuki then mentioned that Cole was struggling to say that he was welcome. Luke acknowledged this with a smile. Yeah, he could tell how things were sometimes. He was familiar with this behaviour back in the old days, before he and Bellamy had been reconfigured as partner digimon. But he wouldn't say anything, that would just make things worse. Just recognize when was the right time to speak up.
Luke raised an eyebrow at being called 'dear' again. Yeah he realized he was kind of in a bad state at the moment, but, eh, whatever, he'd roll with it. "I probably can't walk very well at the moment" he answered. "I'd really appreciate the lift for the time being".
So, it seemed there was nothing else for it but to return to the main path. Luke would continue to gather his thoughts.
(OOC: Sorry for the small post, just I'm in a really off mood tonight).

Cole let out a sigh as his eyes shut, but he nodded with the agreement on their situation him and Luke would come to. "Fair enough. Better then back there with shell-head." he'd say...did that even make sense? The shell was on Mori Shellmon's back. Either way, Cole was feeling better now after taking the moment to rest, even if his leg muscles was burning from the run, he'd push himself off of leaning against the tree, making sure he had a grip of the Elecmon that should be comfy for him. He'd look ahead, spotting a branch in the path that headed the way that should go to the original path. "Maybe that way will get us back to the main path?" He'd motion with his head further down the path to the split.
Tsuki turned to look. "Maybe." "Better then standing here." Cole and Tsuki had a short back and forth, the two beginning to walk, Luke obviously along for the ride. They'd come up to the branch in the paths and turned, heading back the way they had originally come from...albeit, a good ways away from their original path. Tsuki looked up to Luke. "You said you have a partner and brother right? What they like Luke?" she'd ask, curious what company Luke kept. "Hopefully not gonna be another situation like with that one kid..." Cole grumbled, Tsuki's ears sinking as she thought back to the near fight Cole ended up in with a Spirit User...that could've ended badly.
"If they are anywhere as polite as Luke, I'm sure it'll be fine Cole..." she'd try to reassure the man before Luke could even have a chance to speak up for Colin and Bellamy. Tsuki would keep her ears open for any possible threats, and keep her nose just as sharp.

Luke was fairly comfortable being carried by the big human. It wasn't something he was very used to, mainly because Colin was smaller than Cole and he was rarely separate from his brother, plus Colin couldn't carry them both. But, somehow, moving along like this, his injured leg not supporting any weight, being left free to heal on its own, it was a pleasant feeling, making him feel less troubled about being separated.
Luke then considered the possibility of them firing a signal in the air to let Colin and Bellamy know where they were? But, perhaps that would be a bad idea, they could summon worse things than MoriShellmon toward them. But if Luke spotted a fireball in the air, he'd request to send one back. And since he had seen none, that was what they'd do.
The reeds on either side of the path grew high, the smell of the swamps around them becoming quite pungent, but not too overwhelming. Luke then paid attention as Tsuki asked a question.
"Well, my brother's an Impmon called Bellamy" Luke said, smiling. "He can be a funny guy, bit rough around the edges and can be kinda in your face, but he's got the biggest heart of anyone I know. And my partner, Colin, he's just great. He does his best, he's kind, he won't turn his back on anyone that needs help, and I'd follow him to the end of the world". He pictured them both standing just around the corner, Bellamy's face turning from worry to relief then cracking one of his jokes and Colin at once asking if he was alright. "I love them both dearly" he finished. And since Colin cuddled up to both of them every night and since Bellamy never made fun of him with malice and always tried to keep him in a good mood, he could tell they loved him back.
Luke then thought he might ask a question of Tsuki. "How about you? Have you made any other friends in the digital world so far? I might know some of them".

The trio would keep moving along the path, surroundings shifting as the reed grew taller and more dense. Tsuki scrunched her nose as the growing stench from the bayou...she'd make a note not to come back here after they get out of this. Cole and Tsuki both listened to Luke as he answered Tsuki's question--the BlackGabumon smiling at hearing how close Luke seemed to be with Bellamy and Colin. "Sounds like you do Luke." she said, agreeing to him loving his brother and partner/tamer. She'd giggle--"Even if you didn't admit it--its painted all over that smile."
Then the question fell onto Tsuki. The blinked, thinking for a moment. "Well obviously Cole here, we've only been around each other for a week or so but I can tell he's a big softy under that mask he puts up." she'd say with a chuckle, Cole glancing away from her and grumbling. "Not a softy..." "Yeah, thats why you saved Luke and now are carrying him cause he's hurt, right tough guy?" she'd instantly retort with a tease, making Cole hush as he kept glaring off away so neither of them could see his flustered look. "and well...I haven't really told Cole yet but might as well now since you asked--I have a brother of my own, Kokuyoseki--I just call him Kuyo though. Cole kinda reminds me of him, they both like to get in over their heads. Then since me and Cole met I also met his friend Cas, she's such a sweetie, her and her twins. If Cloak wasn't so touchy I'd just pick him up and snuggle him, such a cute Caprimon. Dagger is a goofball...they're good company. Then there was that guy we ran into a few days ago Cole kinda eluded to a moment ago. He wasn't as nice as the others, tried to start a fight without even talking to Cole...I'm not sure what was with him but luckily it ended without much conflict--just a wrinkled collar on Cole's shirt...." she'd go on to explain, bringing Cole's attentiion back over to her as she spoke of having a brother.
"Wait...you have a brother?" "Yeah, he's my twin." "Why didn't you tell me?" "I ah...heheh I just been so stressed lately I never had a chance to bring him up." Tsuki would rub the back of her head nervously as the trio continued on through the swamp. Tsuki would pass Luke's question to Cole--"How about you tell Luke what you think of your time so far here? He's new to the Digital World." she'd say to Cole, then directed the last bit to explaining to Luke Cole's newness to all this. Cole huffed a sigh and it'd be a moment before he'd actually talk.
"Well...Tsuki pretty much summed up how my past week has went since me and her met. That jerk we ran into a few days ago was just a prick, gonna come up and grab me by my shirt before saying a word to me? He's lucky I didn't feed him his teeth. Me and Tsuki have been getting along, Tsuki's about the only friend I have really." "Thats not true and you know it, what about Cas?"...This made Cole look off to the side, and Luke would feel just the slightest tenseness come to Cole's arms. He sighed. "...Thats a long story." "Well we got nothing better to do besides walk and talk right now. Besides, you two got along fine, why you being so...I don't know, quiet?" Tsuki's ears dropped down a bit as she looked up at Cole. He kept looking away from the both of them again.
"...I don't know what you want me to say. She saved me...I was attacked the day before I came here for the first time back in my world, I was literally bleeding out in the street. I still have the stitches in from where she sowed me up after scrapping my half-dead ass off the road...." his head would drop after this, but look forward--a glimpse of his features showed them full of guilt. "...and how did I repay her...I let her come with me when I got my D3, follow a little vague map to some crappy nasty part of town...we fell through a portal in the Shibuya River--which is just a trench full of trash mind you if you haven't had the 'pleasure' of being there, and when we came out on the other side we was here...I got us all to shore cause we popped up in an actual river funnily enough, and the second we got to shore we saw Tsuki being attacked by a huge dinosaur thing" "BlackGrowlmon" "Yeah, that jerk...Me, Cas, and the twins took cover in some bushes but Tsuki was slammed down right in front of us. I...I couldn't just leave her there to become food for that thing, so I ran out and grabbed her...I blew our cover..."...Cole's arm muscles begun to tense more--by far not squeezing Luke, but he'd surely feel the man's muscles becoming less lax.
"We ran but we became cornered...I...I put everyone's lives in danger...We was only saved by a random mysterious Digimon, called herself K...she was gone about as quickly as she appeared....but...it all was my fault...everything...from being attacked, to falling through the portal, to being cornered and basically dead meat...it was all caused by my stupid actions....I...I put Cas's life in danger...I got me and her trapped here in the Digital World for a couple days until we found out how to get out...I owe her my life and I repay her by nearly ending hers, all cause I can't keep my head straight and got us into deadly situations...then what do I do after all that? I snapped at her cause she was just trying to get me to calm down and not feel so guilty, but how can I not...and still after all that I go and hurt my hand punching the ground, and she's still kind enough to wrap it up for me...I was a jerk and treated her like shit and all I could do afterwords is cry and say sorry....how am I a friend of hers Tsuki? I haven't even seen her since we got back to our world, she probably hates me...and I wouldn't blame her, she should hate me...I deserve it..." by the time the man finished his rant he was starting to cry--tears formed in his eyes and begging to slide down his cheeks. He'd look back away from them, hiding his tears. Tsuki frowned and sighed, shaking her head. "She cared enough to wrap up your hand after all that didn't she? She still stuck around you that night and the next right? She doesn't hate you...she's your friend Cole..." the BlackGabumon reassured her partner, but Cole simply remained quiet. "...Sorry Luke, its been a rough week as you can hear...At least he felt comfy enough to tell you, thats abnormal for Cole."

Luke was mostly silent as he listened to Tsuki go over their adventures so far. He also kept one ear raised in another direction, just in case he heard anything coming. Thankfully there was nothing approaching, although he did a double take as Tsuki mentioned she had a brother.
"Really?" Luke asked, wondering where in the world he could be. Was this brother of her's a twin? Or was he more like a normal sibling, like Bellamy's children Finn and Gaz, or his friends Owen and Cion? "Heh, well then, I look forward to meeting him".
Luke was unfamiliar with Cas, Cloak and Dagger, so he just raised an eyebrow. "Interesting choice of names" he chuckled.
Tsuki mentioned that Kuyo was in fact her twin. "Oh, is that right?" Luke asked. "Sorry to interrupt you there, but, you're kind of taking a risk in going without him. Twins are weaker when they're separate" he sweatdropped a little. "I mean... if Bellamy was around the two of us could've handled that MoriShellmon, but, just me alone, no chance".
He then listened to Cole's story. It sounded like something that had been troubling the young man for quite some time and it all suddenly seemed to come out in a rush. "Wow, that's..." he tried to find a word but couldn't. Instead he sighed. "Don't worry, it's not your fault. You didn't intend for Cas to be in danger, at least that's how it sounds to me".
Luke smiled at Tsuki. "That's fine, I don't mind" he said. It'd take a lot more than that to make the Elecmon displeased with something. "And... uh... I'm not 100% sure, but, I think Colin and Bellamy might be nearby. I think I can feel their presence".
He had only felt the sensation once before - that was when he was separated from Bellamy and closing in on him. Just in time it seemed. Hopefully this would turn out to be true soon.

Tsuki would nod when she heard Luke tell her about the inherent weakness with twins while separated, the BlackGabumon rubbing the back of her head. "Yeah, but Kuyo likes to wander...I was living in a village near the Village of Beginnings, and he couldn't just stick around so he went off on his own adventures. Probably why I've had a hard time digivolving even though we've been in a lot of situations that it would've helped." she'd respond to the Elecmon about knowing about her being overall weaker. This also explained the length of time it took her to digivolve--it hadn't happened yet...but sooner then she thinks it will. Just not today.
Cole had made the overall mood come down, but hopefully it could be brought back up. He'd gather himself as they continued to walk, and within a minute or two had basically returned to his more neutral state. Finally breaking his silence since his rant, he'd ask about Kuyo. "...So does that mean my Digivice can help your brother Digivolve too?" "I'd assume so...Luke, what you think?" Tsuki would pass the question to Luke. Luke had more experience then them with this whole Digimon and Human partner thing with twins involved. As they went on Luke would mention possibly 'sensing' his brother and Colin, making the BlackGabumon blink.
She'd take in a good sniff of the air. "Hmm, I think you're right. I think I'm catching hints of the same scent I found on the main path...and speak of the devil." she'd point, ahead of them would be the main path. She'd smile and jog on ahead, coming to the path and turning back to smile at Cole and Luke. Her smile faded though...the scent of something else crossed his snout, the 'mon beginning to look around, ears going up. Cole blinked. "...Ah something wrong?" he'd ask. Likely this would tip off to Luke something was amiss too as they joined Tsuki on the main path. Everything should look familiar to Luke now--this being the path he'd taken in with Colin and Bellamy earlier.

Luke's worries settled down a little when Tsuki explained the situation. "Ah, okay. Yeah... if he's the wandering type I can see how that'd be a thing. Just I hope that he hasn't got into trouble, since the same applies to him as well".
As they continued onward in silence, Luke once again was drawn into his thoughts. He was thinking about how digimon became twins in the first place. In his case, it was because in their previous lives as two independent digimon, he had come to be rather fond of Bellamy, or simply 'Impy' as he had been known by then. And Impy had become fond of him in return, even nicknaming him 'Leky'. They had fallen together in battle and thought they'd never see each other again, but it seemed that they did, both of them bursting out of the eggshell in the Village of Beginnings together. And they had somehow become partners to a human. What was this about? Had something similar happened to Tsuki and Kuyo? While Luke was curious, he supposed that was too personal to enquire about further at this stage.
The silence was broken when they asked about whether or not Cole's digivice would work on Kuro. On this Luke had no doubt. "Of course. He's your twin, so he'd have the same data coding as you, so the digivice should work on him too" Luke answered. "Colin's digivice works on both me and my brother after all, and we're entirely different attributes on paper" he grinned. As an Elecmon he was a Data attribute, and as an Impmon, Bellamy was a Virus. Yet despite this, they shared a lot of other traits.
Tsuki then sniffed the air, detecting something incoming. Luke was momentarily excited, thinking that at any second he'd see Colin and Bellamy again. But... something was amiss. Tsuki ran ahead to see, but seemed to detect something else too.
Luke's long ears twitched as he heard the rustling of the reeds, coming from a different direction to the one he thought Colin and Bellamy were approaching from. "Oh no..." he breathed. "Tsuki! Watch out!" he yelled.
Then, all of a sudden, bursting out of the reeds in front of them, a large digimon appeared. Its head was armored with a thick shell. It had the body shape of a kind of ancient fish, but there were claws on its fins as well. And it glared at them with a hungry expression.
"So! Humans have returned..." he said menacingly. "Strutting around our world... changing things how you see fit... ooh how you disgust me".
Luke trembled a little in Cole's grip. He could tell at once how much of a disadvantage they were. Two weakened twin rookies against a Champion. But, he took a deep breath, remembering to be brave like his brother.
"So, what are you going to do about it?" the Elecmon countered. "Harm one human, and before long you'll have thousands retaliating against you. Think you can handle that, Coelamon?"
"Heh. Empty threats won't work on me, Elecmon" Coelamon jeered. "Look at you, letting that human carry you around like a stuffed animal. Pathetic. You dare even call yourself a digimon?"
Luke could tell this wasn't going to end well. He looked up at Cole, realizing that Tsuki couldn't digivolve to protect them. It thus fell upon him to return the favour that Cole had given him - to protect him from harm. And this was something he felt capable of doing.
"It'll be fine, Cole, don't worry" he said, then jumped free of his grip, landing on the ground. His leg had mostly recovered from the attack from earlier, but it still had a dull ache.
"Heh. Think your puny little sparks will work on me, Elecmon?" the Coelamon jeered. "Try it then, and once you're in my belly I'll deal with this human partner of yours".
Clearly Coelamon thought that Luke was Cole's partner. While that wasn't a particularly unreasonable assumption, well, he would be proven wrong regardless.
"Coelamon, you're making a big mistake here" he said, standing up. "Your options are this. Leave us alone, and live. Or stay here and follow through with your threats, and die".
Luke wasn't a digimon that said things like this lightly. His blue eyes seemed to glow with determination as he tried to stare down the fish digimon. Coelamon meanwhile smirked.
"Oh you are just adorable" he said. "Maybe I'll keep you as my pet instead?".
It seemed that it was no use. Luke thus had no other option but to step up to the plate. The Elecmon had tasted the power of Super Mega - biomerged with Colin and his brother. This innate power flowed strongly within him. Even if he was separate from Colin and Bellamy, he still had enough residual data from prior evolutions to do this. And thus he focused inward, glowing brightly.
"Fine then. We'll do it your way" he said, then data surrounded him as he began to glow and grow. This was the light of digivolution - Luke knew it would hurt, it would take all of his energy to do so, but, he had to. He knew Colin and Bellamy weren't far away. He only just had to hold out to stop this Coelamon hurting Cole and Tsuki.
"Elecmon... digivolve to...!"
At once, Luke's body grew almost double in size. While still shorter than Cole, he grew to his full height of 6 feet. His short stubby legs grew much in length and muscle. His claws extended. Leather armor formed over his chest and back, with tesla coils potruding from it in carefully aligned places. On top of this, a long metal spear formed in his right paw, seven feet in length, its bladed tip seemingly decorated with a collar of copper coils to enhance its electric ability. Then the light faded and Luke's champion form was revealed.
"...Teslamon!" he finished. With this show of force, Coelamon backed off a little, but still decided to remain and size up his opponent.
"We'll see how tough you are then..." he said, preparing an attack, but Luke was not playing around, he attacked immediately.
"Ark Lightning!" Luke cried, the coils on his armor bursting into life and at once cast a thunderbolt directly at the Coelamon, causing him to scream with agony. Given the murderous look on Coelamon's face, this would not go down well.
"Cole best take cover" Luke advised, deftly readying his spear to prepare for Coelamon's counter-attack. As for Tsuki, he wouldn't advise her what to do, she could hide or help, either he could work with.
