Adventure through the Bayou [Armor Hunt] [OPEN]
|
Post by Owen on Apr 14, 2018 7:51:40 GMT
OOC: This thread may turn into an Armor Hunt if I feel there's enough energy in it (and people agree), so, keep that in mind. Otherwise it's just a whimsical adventure for the time being.
Also, my other characters, Roy and Rex, will be present as NPC's.
Owen the Gaomon couldn't say that he had heard of the Backup Bayou before, but, now that he had heard of it from tavern gossip in the Eastern Timberlands, he simply had to check it out! After all, what sort of adventurer would he be, letting other explorers swoop in before he did?
Lately it had been something of a goal of Owen's to explore the digital world, taking in its wonders and thrilling in adventure. After all, he had to set a good example to his little Offmon son Logan. Why should he have all the fun with his tamer while Owen just randomly loafed around?
By now, Owen had somewhat improved his flying skills as MachGaogamon, but still preferred walking around in his Gaomon form. Mainly because it was much less energy to do so, and while he could stay in his Gaogamon form for longer periods of time, well, being functionally bipedal was sometimes preferred. That plus it was the only form where his khaki safari shirt would fit.
But... of course Owen didn't want to go into the Bayou alone. And so he had sent a message to friends he knew as well as strangers, he didn't really discriminate. Unfortunately Tadao and Logan couldn't come since they were tied up on Earth (plus Owen didn't think a place full of swamps was suitable for his son, despite how awesome it would be to adventure with him).
And so Owen was approaching the great misty valley where the bayou was located. It looked almost creepy on the approach, what with morning mist still descended over parts of it, but, his tail wagged as he sighted some interesting old mudstone ruins through his binoculars. A perfect place to look! He might even find some treasure there, or otherwise something useful. The possibilities rolled through his mind. Something that protects from the effects of control spires perhaps? Those things were showing up around the world in a rather worrying degree. Or even...
"Hello there!" a voice from behind him said. Owen almost jumped with shock, then turned to see two digimon approaching. Both of them were in their rookie forms and didn't look threatening so he smiled back at them. One was a Veemon and the other a Guilmon. "Ah... sorry to bother you, Mr. Gaomon, but, you asked for travel companions for the swamp didn't you?"
"Rex, no need to ask him that out of the blue" the Veemon scolded his companion. "Sorry about that. I'm Roy and this is my brother Rex". Owen didn't mind.
"Gudday! I'm Owen, nice to meet you" he said. "And yeah, that's right, don't worry". The Guilmon seemed somewhat carefree and blunt while the Veemon seemed nervous and reserved. Both of them wore matching brown travelling cloaks.
"Ah, right..." Roy said. "You see... we're kind of wondering if you could help us. We're hoping to get across to Whitewater, but, we can't really get there other than to cross this bayou..."
Really? That was confusing. "Is that right? What about taking a Trailmon?" Owen inquired, that was how he normally travelled before he could fly.
"We can't really afford to" Roy admitted. Owen understood this, the light hearted Gaomon didn't mind helping them across in this matter.
"Sure I can. But... you do understand this is meant to be an exploration trip, right?" he asked them. Rex nodded enthusiastically.
"Yeah, we do! Ya see, we're scouts from El Doradimon, and when we heard there's a newly discovered area in the digital world, we thought we had to go check it out!" he nodded at his brother. "Even if Roy doesn't like the idea of walking through a swamp. It's our job to take a look too!"
"I see, that sounds great!" Owen said, wow, he didn't think he'd meet up with digimon from El Doradimon. Scouts no less. "Well, not to worry, you two'll be safe with me! I know everything there is about adventuring!" he assured them.
Indeed, Owen was wearing a backpack that was full of what he hoped would be useful tools for getting by. He wondered if anyone else would turn up here.

"Are you sure you feel well? I can give you another water bottle if you need it." "I can assure you I am -fine-! Don't worry about me!" Ayumi and her partner were traversing the morning mist of Mist Valley, to follow a call for explorers. It was a trek to a swamp, and after their adventure in the desert Solomon had gotten -quite- worried about his partner's well-being. He had packed a lot of drinks and snacks to keep her fed and healthy, and also so she could free up her own backpack for tools. As the head scientist of the Digital Field Club, Ayumi saw it as her duty to go out and follow this request for exploration, especially with Yukiko going out to Sunken Elysium all by herself! Solomon's worry was nice and all, but she's not made out of cotton wool!
As they traversed the misty valley they soon spotted three Digimon at the place that was mentioned as the meeting place. Were these the explorers? "Ooooooy! You there! Are you all here for the Bayou exploration?"

An adventure in the bayou? As Adrian hadn't explored this section of the Digital World yet, he and Shoutmon just couldn't say no! After trucking through the area known as the Eastern Timberlands, they eventually met up with the group, which consisted, so far, of one human and four Digimon.
"Hey there!" Adrian greets the group. "This is the group for the bayou exploration, right? Anyways, my name is Adrian, and this is my partner Shoutmon."
"It's nice to meet you," Shoutmon warmly greeted the others in a nice, albeit brash voice.
Just for some light studies, Adrian scanned the Digimon currently present: a Gaomon, a Veemon, a Guilmon (thankfully not the same one that got angry at him, Adrian thought,) and a Monodramon. All neat, interesting Digimon that Adrian was glad to have seen up close!

Owen heard the others approaching, and was pleased to see two humans would be accompanying them. That was wonderful, Owen always liked hanging around humans. They usually seemed rather fond of him, mainly because of his resemblance to the "dogs" they have back on Earth, whatever they were.
Roy meanwhile was a little more careful, the Veemon glancing up at them with curiosity. He had grown up on an isolated society on El Doradimon after all that was raised to shun humans, but, he didn't believe that was all true. Some... might be though? He didn't know, but would never act out against a human that had done him no harm.
Rex meanwhile gave a cheerful wave, the Guilmon so far hadn't met any human that seemed like a threat, so he treated them all nicely.
The humans seemed like they were at the age that they could look after themselves, which was also neat. And Owen saw that their partners, Monodramon and Shoutmon seemed to be dragon types, leaving him as so far the only beast digimon on the trip. Not to worry! He could get all these dinosaurs through with his know-how.
"Gudday!" he said to them. "Yep, this is the trip to the Bayou alright! Whole new area out there and we'll be the some of the first ones to go through it!"
He was obviously excited at the prospect, and proud to be one of the first too. "So then, if we're all ready, let's head down there and take a closer look. I saw some mudstone ruins down there a little while ago, they're about a mile ahead, shouldn't be much of a problem crossing over there. And after that, we'll see if we can get all the way through to Whitewater. But first... introductions! I'm Owen, this is Rex and Roy".
"Ah, before I forget, how's your evolutions looking? Everyone fine just up to their Rookie forms? Or can ya go a bit beyond that?"
"Uh... we haven't done so yet" Rex answered, the Guilmon having something of a faint Irish accent, one he shared with his brother. Owen glanced at the others.
"How 'bout you lot?" he asked. "If you haven't, that's fine, I can reach Ultimate in a pinch!" he hoped that was reassuring.

"Hey there!" Adrian greeted the group of Digimon, the ones that seemed to be unpaired with any human. The way he talked seemed typical for a teenage Japanese male. "I'm Adrian, and this is my partner Shoutmon."
"Heya!" Shoutmon greets in a loud, boisterous voice, extending an arm for them to shake. "It's great to meet you."
Then he heard the Gaomon Owen ask about digivolution forms. "Uh, yeah, Shoutmon can go to Champion level at the moment. I also have a special trick up my sleeve in case we need it." Adrian then pulled out his card holder. "You see, I can use these cards to power up Shoutmon in various ways, in case we come across something... not so friendly."

Ooooh, Owen, Rex and Roy, how anglophone these names were, she was delighted! Ayumi shook the hands of everyone, one by one. "Nice to meet you Owen, Rex, Roy, Adrian and Shoutmon! I am Ayumi!" Then she struck a silly pose. "But, you may also call me Yumiel, archangel of technology!" The Monodramon by her side sighed. "And my name is Solomon, I am pleased to make your acquaintance." He bowed. His voice was emotionless and robotic, as if someone was using a text to speech program. The bow lent at least -some- credence to his words. "So, we are all here for exploration? That's awesome! More people means more findings! Say, would you guys be ok if I add your findings to our club database? I'd definitely credit you properly, of course!"

So, the human with the Shoutmon was called Adrian, eh? "Champion and a card user eh? Noice stuff" Owen said, giving a grin. However this confused Roy.
"Cards? What do you mean by that?" the Veemon asked. Owen turned to explain.
"Basically some humans have a digivice that lets them power up their digivice with cards" he said. "They're called Odaiba Corp Duel Disk Systems".
"...uh, I don't think that's true..." Rex began, but supposed it would be best for Owen to be corrected by one of the humans. Hopefully the self proclaimed Archangel of Technology.
Owen flashed a grin at her, but the grin faded at Monodramon's robotic delivery. "Struth, Microsoft Sam, turn down the enthusiasm a bit will ya?" he joked, and would have patted him on the back had he been closer and/or knew him better.
"Sure, you can use whatever you find here for your databases" Owen grinned. "Not like I own the place. Anyway, without further ado, as the saying goes, the biggest journey starts with a single step. So..." he took that first step... and regretted it.
"AGH! OW! GAH! SUNOVA! BUH!" Owen yelped as this "step" involved underestimating just how slippery the downward slope into the bayou valley was. And given that he had bare feet rather than hiking boots, failed to catch onto the friction of the damp grasses and lost his balance rather quickly, falling down the steep hill for about fifty feet before he managed to come to a stop.
"Well, this is going off to a good start..." Roy remarked, being sure that he and his brother used their large claws to keep a grip on the hill.

Adrian was caught off guard by the fact that the Gaomon said "noice." He only ever heard talk like that with his online friends. "Uh, yeah, I guess it is," Adrian says, not really knowing what to say. Adrian was then going to explain to the Veemon what his cards were about, before Owen spoke up first.
Then he called them Duel Disks. Both he and Shoutmon fell over anime-style after he said this. "They're called D-Arcs," Adrian groans as he gets up. "I have no idea where your friend got that first name, but it was clearly stolen from a show in our world, 'Oh-Gi-Yu!'"
Shoutmon's smile also faded when he heard Monodramon speak up. "Gee, you just sound super excited about this whole thing," Shoutmon said to the Monodramon, joking and being sarcastic with them. "Better calm down before you accidentally lay a DigiEgg."
"Club Database?" Adrian asked Yumiel. "You're part of the Digital Field club, too, right? With Haru and Miyu?" Clearly, he had already made friends with members of that club.
Adrian and Shoutmon were both ready to go... until Owen slipped and fell down the slope into the valley. The two of them just watched Owen fall (most likely painfully) down the slope, with big anime sweatdrops on their heads.
"...he's gonna get us killed."
"Yep..."

Ayumi looked offended for a moment. "Hey, it's not his fault he sounds like tha-" She was stopped by Solomon himself, who raised a claw and shook his head. "It's ok. I admit it is weird, but I cannot help it. It's how I was born. It's how I exist. I am at peace with it." Ayumi shook her head, too, then turned to Adrian's mentioning of the club. "Yes! I'm one of the leaders of the club, in fact! Small world, that you know Haru and Miyu! I hope we can gather a lot of info on this trip!" The mentioning of the Odaiba Corp thingamajig turned her attention elsewhere again. "Eh? I know nothing about this stuff, but that sounds like something out of a corny anime..." She shrugged, and turned back towards the more.
Just as she turned to walk on, she watched Owen slip into the bayou. "...Oh dear." Solomon called down the hill. "Are you ok? Are you hurt?"

Roy and Rex were somewhat better at dealing with the slope than Owen was, the two of them maintaining a controlled slide down the steep gradient. At the bottom they found Owen already standing, brushing wet grass and soil from his fur and tunic. The ground was rather more wet down here, but still fairly solid.
When asked if he was okay, Owen gave a grin and a thumbs up as though he had totally meant to do that.
"Now what I just demonstrated there was the defensive roll" Owen said, attempting to stand with the same professional pose as he had before, as though nothing had happened. "It looks a bit clumsy, but, if you find yourself falling out of control down a slope, the trick is to keep a control on your momentum while not risking breaking any bones from trying to stop it too strongly".
"Owen, you're talking to a tree stump" Roy pointed out. Owen blinked, realizing he was still a bit dizzy from the tumble. Rex meanwhile giggled a little at how entertaining this trip was so far.
"Okay, just give me a moment..." the Gaomon said, sitting down on the stump. "Ah... there should be a gentler slope around here!" he called out to those still above. Indeed there was, about fifty feet away. Once the party was together again, they'd be ready to proceed onward through the marshes.

After Owen presented the obvious dangers of the steep slope, Adrian was definitely more cautions. In fact, he was practically climbing down the slope, like what Rex and Roy were doing.
Shoutmon, however, was a bit less cautious. He slid down that slope on his own to feet, like he was snowboarding down it. He cheered as he went down, and eventually front flipped out of the sliding towards the bottom, and landed amazingly. He struck a confident pose.
"Showoff," Adrian called out to him just as he was finished climbing down the hill.
"Aw, shut up," Shoutmon told his tamer. "That was awesome and you know it!" He then witnessed a disoriented Owen talking to a stump. He couldn't help but laugh at him for that - it was too funny!
Adrian and Shoutmon both waited for Ayumi and Solomon before continuing with the others, just in case either one of them slipped and fell, too.

Solomon was relieved to see Owen alright, and let out a little, monotone chuckle when he watched him talk to a stump. "He appears to still be disoriented. Shall I help you down, Ayumi?" Ayumi rolled her eyes. "Come on, Solomon, I'm not a weak girl, I can do this by myself!" She proudly went to the less steep hill, and made her way down, without any issue, too. Solomon watched, and descended the hill with the help of his wings. He only wants to be nice to his Tamer, but it seems he is a bit too over-eager.
Once at the bottom, Ayumi took a look around. "My word, this place is fascinating! Where shall we go first?"

Once the party was down the slope and ready to enter the marsh, Owen had recovered from his little episode and was back to his normal self, his tail pointed high with confidence. "Alrighty then! If you'd care to head this way, I'm sure that we'll able to find something that'd be pretty valuable to your research organization" he said. For the time being, his pathfinding abilities seemed to work fairly true, the Gaomon using his sight, smell, hearing, memory and instinct to lead them on a safe path through the marsh to the first waypoint.
The path was a little bit damp and slimy, but with no hazards. Either side of the path were high swamp grasses that grew through the quagmire. But for the time being the path was safe.
Eventually, the path would lead them to what Owen had seen before - an assortment of mudstone ruins. There were two piles of rubble that seemed to be collapsed buildings, but, there was a third structure that still seemed to be standing.
"Aha! Just as I thought, this region seems to be a place of significant historical value" Owen said. "If I'm not mistaken, this seems to be an ancient waystation that directed land traffic through the marshes".
Roy and Rex, who were following, were inclined to believe this. The dragon brothers took a closer look at the waystation, and saw that there were symbols carved upon it. Owen noticed too, and of course had to push his over-indulgent confidence into things.
"I think I know this language too, remember it from my old Recon days" Owen said, reading the inscriptions in the ruins. "It's describing some kind of place to stay, the... Y-M-C-A? Apparently it's a venue of pleasure for digimon to have fun and hang out with humans..."
"That's... not what it says" Roy said, sweatdrops increasing by the number. "These symbols... they look similar to one of the languages they taught us on El Doradimon. I'll see if I can translate".
Owen simply nodded and allowed Roy to inspect the ruins. The Veemon pulled a notebook from a pocket he wore around his waist and scribbled down some things. Rex meanwhile proudly turned to the group to explain.
"Back home on El Doradimon, Roy's always felt confident about dealing with languages" the Guilmon said. "He can understand at least 10 variations of our digicode language". Not that Rex knew, but, "digicode" was simply the raw digimon version of various human languages, with different symbols replacing the letters that humans would have been familiar with. And Roy was simply well versed in the 10 most common variations of it. Eventually, the Veemon came up with a translation.
"It says something about welcoming us to a long forgotten realm - a place that rewards those who tread forward with conviction" Roy recited as he consulted with the inscriptions and his notes. "So, basically, it's saying that if we continue forward to the next waystation, we'll... get some kind of reward, I think?"
"Hm! Just as suspected!" Owen said, brightly. "Thanks for the translation, Roy. It just goes to show that if you look hard enough, you can find so much information from such old dried out abandoned places, and this may just be one of the few left in this area" he gently patted the ruins in which Roy had been translating. "Now then, how about we-" his speech was momentarily drowned out by the sound of the ruins collapsing, much to Roy's despairing shock and Rex's bemusement. As the mudstone structure fell and shattered, Owen stared at it with shock, before venturing to continue. "-how about we head this way to where it seems to be pointing?" he asked, pointing to a further path through the bayou.
"...oh my god" Roy muttered, clasping his face with his hand, but, supposed that curiosity would propel them forward.

"Next time, be careful with your steps," Adrian tells Owen as he laughs. "Although that last slip-up definitely gave us quite a bit of warning. So on second thought, keep doing that!"
"Ugh, this path is disgusting," Shoutmon complained as they walked. "My feet are getting all slimy and dirty!"
"Suck it up, buttercup," Adrian says. The group then stumbled upon some mudstone ruins, kind of like the ones he and Shoutmon explored that other day...
"...the YMCA?" Adrian muttered as Owen claimed to know what the strange writing meant. He was now starting to doubt this Gaomon's skills in ancient cultures... "That is the second thing you have stolen from our world."
"Wait... you're from El Doradimon?" Shoutmon asked Rex and Roy.
"El Doradimon? What's that?"
"It's a huge city on top of a huge Digimon!"
"That's like having a big city on top of a blue whale..." Adrian says.
"A what? Whalemon?"
"Forget I said anything..." Adrian payed attention to what Roy was now saying. Something about a reward at the end... "Like, what kind of reward?"
"Is the reward food?!"
"...of course you'd say that," Adrian says, with a "-_-" expression on his face. That expression only got stronger when Owen chipped in. Oh, he's one of THOSE types... great. Just to prove his point, Owen knocked over a sculpture just by patting it.
"You... should just stop touching things," Adrian says as the group continues on.

Ayumi was delighted at so many things to look at! She plucked samples of swamp plants and kept them in little vials with corks, she took some swamp water samples, heck, she even took photos of the trees! When they came upon the ruins, she almost squeaked from sheer excitement! Real, genuine ruins! They must be of immense historical value, just as Owen said! "Oh! Oh! So much history, and we're barely in! This trip was already a great idea!" As she fussed about the ruins, Solomon watched as Roy translated the old runes. "My, it is quite impressive that you can read such old scripture. Could you tell me about the language? And about this ElDoradimon you mentioned?" Before he could get an answer, Owen caused the ruins to collapse. Ayumi let out a squeal of sheer anguish. "N-n-n-no! The ruins! I w-w-wasn't done cataloguing them!" She hastily tried to scratch together remains and fragments, while Solomon patted her, trying to keep her from crying. "There, there, perhaps there will be even more to find in the direction the statue points towards."
