Some time ago, long before K even left the inn. Long before she reached her current power. Her life was all that simpler. During an ancient and forgotten war; a little help can go a long way...
"The sky is as dark as it was yesterday Miss K."
"Not a surprise to hear, Were you able to get some wood chopped?"
"Yes Ma'am, where should I put it?"
"End of the bar, away from the fireplace. Did you see anyone today?"
"No Ma'am."
"More's the pity I suppose."
The renamon shifted and leaned over the counter watching her hired worker take the armful of wood that they had chopped over to where she had specified. She had hired them on just a week ago and already they were helping out around the place enough to make it easier for her to get things sorted out. Everything was getting cleaner and cleaner by the day; which made the few customers they had gotten in the time he had been here much happier.
She watched the male renamon for a moment before getting back to her duties as innkeeper. There wasn't much that she could really do that wasn't already taken care of at this point. The beds were made, the stove was ready and raring to go. Now they had wood chopped enough to last them the next couple days even if they got a customer.
With the war going on, customers had been very scarce. Roads were dangerous to travel and it was not a surprise to see from time to time a large group of war ready digimon. In fact just the other day she had served a group of virus types that were heading towards the front. Which she had been told was getting closer and closer every day.
Recently however, the sky had darkened considerably. Turning a black color that made it very hard to distinguish from night or day. By all accounts it should be day right now if her time keeping was correct. She'd shift and look at the clock that ticked behind her; the hands of this old clock were worn in comparison to the rest of it but thankfully that didn't change the use of the damn thing.
"What did you say your name was again?"
"Silver, Ma'am."
"Silver. Check the shingles after your done with the wood, then get some water drawn from the well. I have a feeling we're going to have customers soon. Maybe a storm too. Once you're done with that let me know and I'll get your lunch started."
"Yes Ma'am. Thank you Ma'am."
K watched the other renamon quickly get to what she had told him to do. He was an efficent worker that surprisingly had been late to signing up for the war effort on either side. They doubted him immensely and he was left to wander from what he had told her. So why wouldn't she hire someone such as him? It gave her more room to work on things within the inn. The rooms now were clean, the kitchen was clean and they had managed to get the compost bin filled up. She just hoped that she wasn't forgetting anything....

To run a business in a time of war was to run a risk.
K knew this quite well, at this point: one of the few reasons that her inn still stood was that she remained as neutral as possible in this conflict. At times her guests were angels, and at times her guests were demons - but when she was busy, well, the stories that passed were always flavorful. With the skies darkening every day and a looming fight on the horizon, the Renamon was right to sure up her stores:
No later than five minutes after Silver had drawn from the well, would the sound of shrieking bats fill the air. At this point, this frightening sound would be nothing more than the foretelling of a rather familiar patron - a Myotismon, by the name of Wing. But this time, he didn't come alone: as the bell at the front of the door rang, the stately vampire would stand off to the side, letting in a pair of Musyamon, a single Sorcermon, and no less than six Impmon pouring into the front room.
"Hmhm. Pardon us for the short notice, madam." Wing gave a chuckle and a smirk, stepping right up to the front desk, leaning over the counter with a weighted elbow. As always, he offered a single flower to the Renamon, a warm nod given straight to the innkeeper. "It turns out they needed my own mercenary group this time - though I must say, is it good to see you're still here, darling? Tell you the truth, half of us thought we'd simply have an empty building to make as our last pit-stop before the front line."
That aside, he gave a smile. "I trust my boys are welcome?" Flirty as his tone may have been, that was a very thinly veiled threat at the end.

K knew quite well it was a rare thing to find a neutral location for people to stay. She knew the leves of war and the problems it brought; she knew the sorts that would come and go. She cared little who stayed in her inn as long as they kept to themselves and didn't cause trouble in her establishment. It was a long fight to keep herself this way; to not give in to one side or the other.
Upon Silver's return she'd direct him quickly to put the water where it'd be needed most and then went about her business tending to the bar. Her ears flicked however when she heard the shrieking of the bats; she'd glance at Silver and gesture for him to go into the back room. The younger renamon blinked but did as asked. She had no doubt that whomever arrived would want food; and if it was the returning customer she figured it would be.. Well. He'd likely want food and drink.
A slight brow quirk and the renamon placed her hands on the desk, watching as the Myotismon and his group came in. It would be the busiest she had been this month; even the small group of angels that passed through here didn't amount to much. She'd give a small small to wing as he greeted her.
"Short notice or not, You're business and company is welcome."
She'd of course gingerly take the flower, taking a moment to appreciate it before putting it quite firmly into a small vase that was filled nicely with water. She'd likely see if she could grow out the roots later, as she was trying to cultivate a few bushels for better appearance of the inn.
"Not a surprise considering your power and skill Wing. It's nice to still be here trust me; people need a place to rest their heads. Is that the case with several other stops? Empty halls? How close is the front now days?"
The renamon dipped her head in a nod at his question. Why wouldn't they be welcome here? they had done nothing to make the renamon desire them to be out of her inn or out of her sight.
"Of course, Menu's are still on the tables, Casks ready to be tapped and food ready to be cooked. I don't think I know any of your merry band either."
She understood the threat quite well, but with such a gentle disposition she was able to take it somewhat well. In fact it didn't seem to even bother her that much. Though she did have to ask...
"Staying the night or just passing through?"

"Heh. A charmer as always, you are."
The Myotismon gave a smile as the Renamon took the flower in hand, and in that familiar ritual, placed it neatly in a water-filled vase. Should any have kept, the fox might have had enough for a rich, dried bouquet. As the vampire spoke, the rest of the group had already made their way in, sitting themselves down around several tables. Very quickly, the once quiet inn filled with boisterous chatter, several braggart tones and immature gestures shared between the Impmon and one of the Musyamon. The Sorcermon kept to his own table, idly reading the menu, while the second Musyamon had taken it upon himself to bury his face deep in the menu.
"Heh. If you're not on the front, guess its good to have a place to keep your head down - but alas, you're the only place active for miles. Bark Town's completely cleared itself out, and if I had to guess... well, hun, you're only about eight miles off of the action." He gave a chuckle, as if not concerned with that fact in the slightest!
And of course, K played right along, at the very least 'acting' like the gracious innkeeper to this 'merry band'. "Mm, to tell you the truth, the lot's only here so I can be hired. Skilled as I may be, the Captains are demanding larger groups to shore up the sides... ah, but I'm boring you." Whether he was or not, the vampire would reach into his sleeve, pulling out a small bag, as that last question graced his ears.
"That depends, are you willing to humor spending the night with me?" The comment was said at least half earnestly, silence held just long enough as he'd give his actual answer: "But yes, we'll be here through tomorrow or when the Captains call. Now..."
Reaching into that coin purse, the Myotismon drew three coins, solid gold with the print of a Rosemon atop the surface. In times of war like this, paper currency and bills held little purpose - he'd rest the coins on a small 'tipping' scale on the counter, allowing the Renamon to get a proper measure of their weight. "I'm sure this will suffice with the lot?"

"Me? I wouldn't think so normally but I'll take your word on that."
The renamon chuckled softly; looking somewhat surprised at the compliment. Perhaps she was being coy or perhaps she was just really unsure. Her ears flicked and the renamon glanced at the others that were now making themselves at home. She'd tut a little bit and figure that there would likely be a couple orders from each of them. No doubt something that would make them worth having here for the night; they would pay incredibly well as Wing usually did. Even if she didn't normally serve virus types she likely would of made an exception for this merry band.
"Not a surprise on that I suppose, Bark town always was a place quick to empty when trouble reared it's ugly head. Really now? That's a lot closer than I would of expected."
She'd tilt her head a little bit as Wing continued to talk. He certainly was making the conversation interesting; he had skills that would of course make him coveted in a sense. But he was simply a single mon, having a group of digimon would make it easier to get hired as a merc. Hell that would normally work with most job types. There was a moment she looked somewhat hesitant up until the bag was shown.
"I wouldn't say boring me. Would be the first real conversation I've had all month."
The renamon would shrug and then pause a moment as the Myotismon flat out flirted with the renamon. There was clear uncertainty and exasperation. She'd rub her muzzle and sigh softly.
"You know I can't do that Wing..."
She'd quirk a brow when he gave her an answer regardless; her expression turned from the somewhat uncertain to clear surprise as the three solid gold coins were place in front of her. She'd frown slightly and start to weigh them out; sincerely surprised with the weight of them. She even took the moment to inspect both sides of the coin and even tapped a claw against it. Satisfied she'd dip her head in a nod.
"For room, Food and of course Mums the word that you were here."
The renamon hadn't really been expecting this; the sheer level of payment that the other digimon provided her would be more than enough for this period of rest and even more. Gold was a rarity to say the least and she wasn't really sure how on earth she'd be able to really spend all of it. Even with the group that he had brought in... Lord.
"Just let me know if you need anything. Got a worker now so service will be a tad faster than what you're used to."

Indeed, the Renamon wasn't looking at an easy group here - most of them would have an order in due time, and the entire group would be rambunctious and rowdy. Even after they would all turn in for the night, both K and her help would likely have two or three hours of cleaning, just to try and bring this place back to a respectable state.
"Mm, and its threatening to slip even closer. With the town empty, I wouldn't be surprised to see it off the map in due time - whatever they left behind is just provisions for the war, after all. That includes every nail and board." The Myotismon gave a chuckle, half-teasing the Renamon with the idea that her inn might end up in the same state, should she not be here to keep a close eye on it.
Of course, as the Renamon had done several times before, she turned Wing down. It was to the point where he just gave the traditional 'tut' and laughed it off. Of course, one of those three coins was enough for the entire group, and with that bit on the top, their safety was secured. Her okay was given, and Wing turned to the 'merry band':
"Order as you will, men! Rest up, be full and merry, for tomorrow we head off into the front!" The group responded with their various hurrahs, and soon enough, the calls would come from around the inn:
"Hey, over here!"
"Two shots of Devi-Bomb!"
"Bring on the mead!"
And for a while, the room would be rambunctious, busy, and taxing. Silver would likely be dragged right along in this, for those first couple of hours... but no sooner than that, did something loom over the horizon:
The sound of a heavy bell. The calling sign for a march of angels. At first it was muted, but it slowly picked up - Wing, sitting across from the Sorcermon, gave a 'tch', looking to the innkeep: "If I have the Wizard here restore the front room, think you can keep hush, you two?" The Impmon and the rest, aside from Wing and the Sorcermon, already started to scurry towards the back...

K was used to all sorts in her inn, she just wasn't used to it being severely busy. It wouldn't be the first time she had dealt with it being messy however; as when goblinmons and their ilk came through here they liked making a mess of things.
"A pity really, they had a really good bakery there. Hopefully they leave some of it for the people that manage to come back, but I won't cross my fingers."
She knew the implications of what he had said; she had of course at a time literally fended off individuals from taking apart portions of her inn just for use. The renamon shook her head a little bit and raised a brow to the tut. Was he really expecting her to say yes after all this time? She'd of course hurry to get their drinks when called out; and would take orders as they came.
Silver was much less helpful at taking orders as he was delivering them, cleaning up and keeping things maintained. He of course tried to be friendly to the virus types; but he was incredibly nervous around them. They would of been the first ones he had really seen other than the occasional gazimon.
The sound of a heavy bell made K freeze amidst the activity and silver almost dropped the platter that he was carrying but managed to catch it with a soft sigh. K dipped her head in a nod and glanced at silver.
"Get the extra food elsewhere, I'll get the incense set up to mask the smell. Don't worry wing it wouldn't be the first time I've done this."
"Yes Ma'am, Of.. Uh. Course Sir."
"Mum's the word Silver, We don't divulge patron information of whether their here or not. Hop to it."
"Y-yes Ma'am!"
Silver was quick to hurry off, looking somewhat sad that he'd have to get rid of the extras. It wouldn't be the first time she had to burn food or something like that, quickly she'd set out some incense and even went about cleaning her little area; with or without the Wizards help.
"Also wouldn't be the first time Angels have been through here either..."

"Ah, we'll leave it to you, hun."
The Myotismon gave a smirk, a solid pat given on the Renamon's shoulder as he moved on towards the back. The Sorcermon, silent even now, simply stood up and raised his staff. The chairs were quickly set into place, and at the very least, the few broken glasses scattered about the floor were neatly deposited away in the bin. With the 'structure' of the room left orderly, he tilted his hat, and moved off to the back...
... Which left K and Silver a good six or so minutes to get this front room into shape. The incense would do a decent enough job of hiding away the scent of food, and with just a little bit of creativity, the two might manage to clean up just in time. Though, their new guests would have much less 'respect' than her current patrons.
At once, the front door would whip open, a fierce armored hand almost managing to tear it right off of its hinges. The bell above rang once, before snapping right at the cord, clattering uselessly against the ground, a MagnaAngemon stepping boldly into the room.
"My, my... certainly such force isn't necessary in this establishment, sir?" With a chuckle, the sole Digimon accompanying the angel - a Wisemon - gave that simple remark as he floated on in. The angel seemed to ignore the comment, instead taking a brief look around the room. Incense in the air, at least one of these foxes looking like they were out of breath...
Yeah, that seemed about right. "Well?" His gaze leveled right on the innkeeper. "Where are they?"

"All right."
The renamon shifted a bit and made sure for the most part not to rush herself on the cleaning bit. There would be little reason for her to do so after all; being winded would just make her more suspicious of course and she didn't want that. Silver on the other hand? Was runnign around like a maniac and the poor boy slipped a few times scurrying to clean up small bits he really didn't need to.
They had a few precious minutes before the front door whipped open; Silver flinched and K found her brows raising slightly. She noted with a certain level of distaste that her bell that allowed her a certain level of knowledge about customer entry snapped off of the cord she had it attached to.
She idly scratched her ear and noted that silver was a nervous mess nearby this angel. She'd shake her head with and lean on the counter before sighing. The angel looked her way and she'd meet that gaze head on; if anything she simply looked tired as she had been up since basically the crack of dawn making sure things today would of gone smoothly.
"You're going to have to be a little more specific Sir."
She'd scratch her ear and glance at silver who was trying to make himself look as small as possible and failing. While he didn't know much about Virus types he certainly knew enough about these holy ones to be fearful of them.
"Silver dear, take a breather I don't need you passing out on me. If you're not used to the work we're going to have to have a talk later"
"Y-ye-yes ma'am!"
The other renamon slowly sat down on one of the bar stools near the entry to the kitchen. The Innkeeper gave the two a quick once over and let out a small sigh again.
"seriously boy, I ought to just have you deal with the inside and me the out at this rate..."

What was this scene they were trying to set?
Despite the obvious disheveled state of the front room, the innkeeper acted calm, as if she had nothing to hide or be worried about - while her assistant visibly cowered at the sight of the two. The MagnaAngemon gave a moment of pause, looking over his shoulder to the Wisemon with a nod. The cloaked Digimon gave a nod back, and soon stepped off - to that same booth that Silver sat at, sitting across from the help.
"First week on the job, lad? Strange to see an able-bodied one like yourself still tread the sidelines." Even with the angel's intensity, the Wisemon somehow still managed a somewhat kind, playful tone: he leaned forward, resting his elbow on the desk, idly examining the fox in front of him. "But I guess not all of us are up to that level of grit... making up funds for your family, then?"
"Hmph." He'd leave the sorcerer with that angle - but as K pressed for information, the MagnaAngemon stared right back down, a glare hidden behind his visor. "Oh? I've been following a trail of blood and agony trying to track down some damn Myotismon and his flunkies. A trail that somehow led cold out in these woods, one inn in sight to take shelter for the night, to not risk the forest beasts..."
His tone leveled, as he rested his palms against the desk, staring eye to eye with the fox.
"You're saying you know nothing?"

Silver's reaction to the wisemon coming over to his booth was somewhat expected. As the other digimon sat down, the renamon seemed to shrink away from them. He knew what angels were somewhat like; from a mix of stories and personnel experiences. They had been the military to turn him away for some reason and of course he had no where to go so he came here...
"well uh... I tried joining the military but they sort of turned me away."
Silver shot a glance to K and she'd simply shrug. She had no qualms about him telling them personal stuff; or what the reasons for him being here was. In truth she figured they'd try to get him to talk about it in some fashion or another. But she could see something darker in purpose; they were likely trying to cozy up to the renamon to get him to speak as he was already flustered.
"My mother and sister yes, they uh. They have kind of a hard time without Dad around. He's uh... Part of your guy's army I think."
The innkeeper shifted a little bit noting that the MagnaAngemon seemed a little miffed that she was still dodging his questions or providing answers to him that he didn't trust.
"It's the woods sir, despite everything do you expect people to be able to be tracked? Aren't Myotismon's known for their trickery and deceitful nature? I can assure you that my inn hasn't seen much in the way of customers."
The renamon shrugged a bit and gestured to a book off to the side where normally customers would sign in and pay. It was a simple system one that could be easily manipulated. However when the angel put his hands on the desk and stared at her eye to eye the renamon simply quirked a brow.
"Even if I did know anything, I'm not allowed to divulge any information pertaining to my customers. It's part of the reason why I even get any out here in the first place. Do you know how distrustful people are of a single building in the middle of nowhere?"
There was a soft but somewhat irritable huff that escaped from the Renamon. It was frustrating to have this angel in her inn; he was ruining the vibe that she had been trying to give this place.
"But I'll tell you what. You have any wanted posters or the like? I can easily post them in a place where people will see them and if someone happens to know where they are it's not hard finding where your army is isn't it?"

"Turned ya away, eh? Guess you couldn't cut it as anything higher than a Renamon, then." The Wisemon's tone was still rather casual, warmly speaking to the help in a rather informal fashion. He worked for his sister and his mother, while his father fought in the war? "Mm, we have many a skilled fox in our ranks, so I can't say if I've seen any bit of him. Though he fights with the valiant light in his heart, so he's at least with our hearts, right?"
That was all well-and-good, but the innkeeper was still playing evasive. Not a single word - in fact, a simple declaration that she wouldn't have told them anything, even if they did know. The MagnaAngemon grit his teeth, idly tensing his hands into fists. She even spoke of some half-going-along-with the requirements - but what would wanted posters do if people were already suspicious of the building?
But it seemed that words weren't going to get them anywhere. With a sigh, the angel shook his head. "That's how it is, then?"
"Oh, if we're talking about posters..." The Wisemon muttered, pulling a heavy tome out of his cloak. "My, sorry about the size, been quite the affair so far. But if you could just look through these last few pages for me, and tell me if anything's familiar?"
The Wisemon's tone seemed innocent enough - but if Silver agreed, and the Renamon broke open that bind to pull the book open, he'd feel a harsh torrent of wind - trying to pull him right into the pages of the tome itself!

"Y-yeah. I uh; haven't found my stride so I can digivolve yet..."
The younger of the two renamon seemed to relax just a little bit. as the conversation continued into familiar ground for him. He'd dip his head in a nod as the other spoke about skilled foxes in their ranks. He seemed somewhat happy to hear this information even if it was severely round about.
The problem being with playing evasive is that there was a certain level that K could and would get away with. This was not one of them after all; the problem with this was that they had indeed been here and the larger problem was that she couldn't give away any form of information no matter how trivial. Her offer of course did nothing for the Angels and she could see that; it was somewhat frustrating to say the least.
The sigh, shake of the head and the statement that the Angel made only led to one thing with K. She could feel her blood run cold and she'd stiffen a little bit. That was the resolve of an angel that would do anything to get his information. There was a soft moment where she considered stepping away but what happened next made that go out the window almost immediately.
Silver of course was unaware of the sort of things that the wisemon or his angel companion's were truly capable of. He'd simply dip his head in a nod and of course broke open the binding that held the book shut. Even going so far as opening it. Unfortunately because of how he was sitting, mixed with a certain level of 'relaxed' he wasn't expecting the harsh torrent of wind. The latter of which had an easy time pulling him into the tome. The only thing that he could manage was a yelp before becoming such.
The renamon's expression darkened considerably when she heard that yelp; she could already assume what they had done. She was no stranger to the angels. Nor what they would do to get information; she had hoped they'd take her excuses and leave. She'd clench her hands and grit her teeth before looking up at the angel; there was a considerable fire in her eyes for a moment before it quickly was smothered.
"You're certainly not making this any easier on me."

All it took was an instant - as soon as Silver opened that tome, even moving to peer over the pages, he was simply pulled right into the book, its blank pages starting to be scrawled with a sudden movement of ink. Plucking the tome from the table, the Wisemon snapped the book shut, once more bringing his binding around the cover:
"So sorry, there, kid, but that's the breaks."
Of course, the innkeeper was angry, a brief flash of foxfire in her eyes as she stood, almost defiant of the MagnaAngemon before him. The angel didn't flinch, knowing that what the Wisemon had done to the assistant. "Hm. I'm sure you understand by now, innkeeper. My aide has your subject's life in his hands - that much is clear already."
So what was his point? He leaned down over the table, staring to the fox: "And all he has to do is read those pages, to know exactly what's gone on here in the last few hours. So answer carefully: if you say they aren't here, and the book says the same, we'll let you both go, nice and easy. If you fess up and say they are here, we'll simply make our way back - but keep your help as 'payment' for your delay."
And of course, the third: "But if you say the Myotismon isn't here, and he is? You can go ahead and join your 'help' as another chapter. What will it be?"

The fact that the other renamon had been added to the book did little to change the renamon's mind. She'd grit her teeth and flick her ear in annoyance. The renamon rubbed her muzzle and glared over at the wisemon; the only reason the angels could even get away with something like this is because their reason was 'just'. She hated that sort of thing far more than anything about those that came from Luminas or their lands.
"Crystal."
The innkeep gritted her teeth and clenched her hands, returning the stare that the other gave her. No matter what she did Silver was gone; if they opened the book and found out they'd just add her too. If she admitted it the poor boy was going to be subject ot the angels and their whims.
Then of course there was the final ultimatum; if she said that they weren't here and the Myotismon was here. She would be added to the book as another chapter. A very long somewhat boring chapter; as most of her life now had been this innkeeping business. She shifted a little bit and let out a soft sigh.
"I can't tell you anything. Even if they had been here I cannot say anything about them. Either add me to the book; release my help or just leave. It won't change what I can say and what I can't."
She really hoped that she wouldn't be added to that book; she figured she would never see the light of day again if that was the case. She also figured that silver would be in the same boat regardless of how she really answered.
