A looong sigh ensued. Well, talk about foresight! Given how Chie apparently despised every other member of her family, it was only logical that the answer to that question would be her mother or a relative she didn't know about. Weeeelp. Hopefully, two wrongs would make one right. "Was she a good player? Sounds like an... interesting game to teach your kid, if you ask me."Two outcomes; either she had just something done something horribly wrong, or maybe they could get some actual conversation about the game or... something else; which one happen? It was a coin toss, more or less! Amelie's eyes went back to the board; she spent almost a minute analyzing it. What was she going to do? Didn't help that her opponent had called her... younger than her? A faint pink hue began to become obvious on her cheeks. As always, flattery got the best of her. "I-I'm actually... seventeen, you know?" Considering Chie had made clear that she had dropped out of school, that meant that she probably was older than her possible age range. "How old did you think I was?"In a flash of insight, a small, satisfied smile began to pull at the corner of her lips. The brunette picked her queen and moved it straight towards H4. "Check."

Chie wasn't feeling very talkative about her family now that everything was laid out on the table clearly. However she decided to end a a relatively happy note. "My mother taught me in hopes that it would help me socially develop instead of stay in a kitchen all day. Unfortunately first student to ever be voted out of Chess club doesn't help, and no one in my family could play."
As Amelia mentioned her age, Chie couldn't believe her. Checking her over once again, true she was tall, but that doesn't always equate to age. Chie had her pegged at fifteen, but she couldn't believe she was older. "Yeah, I thought you were fifteen for a few minutes. Just great skin condition I suppose? Nothing wrong with looking a little younger."
Nuzzling out of embarrassment she focused on the Chess board for a solid minute and a half, gritting her teeth. There was a way out of check, but that would bring only to checkmate next round. A pointless struggle, Chie figured that Amelia realized it. Reaching two fingers onto the top of the king, she tipped it over realizing it was a pointless struggle to do otherwise. "Zugzwang. Good Game Amelia."

Well, at least that had ended up in a bit of a happier note? At least she had salvaged the topic a bit, even though she couldn't but ask a simple question. "Why were you voted out from the chess club, though? That sounds pretty rude unless you did something bad."
Not to say that the whole conversation had... actually given Amelie what she thought was a good idea! Now, she just had to see if Chie was up to it or not. But first, she had to address the deal about her age. For some reason, Chie talking about it so liberally made her feel very flustered, but it also felt nice, in a way.
"F-Fifteen? Well. That's pretty... interesting, in a sense. And uh..."
Yeah, better to just let her words trail off; no need to keep on adding awkward remarks! Otherwise they wouldn't be able to finish the game, even though that it was pretty much over. The teenager had seen that she only had one move available and that the inevitable conclusion was checkmate in Amy's favor. It wasn't much, but the outcome made the brunette to feel pretty satisfied.
"Good game! I really enjoyed it." Her words were truthful, and the smile on her face showed she was being genuine. "I'm sorry for this game to not be as relaxing as you expected it to be. And, uh... in order to compensate, I'd like to treat you dinner, if you'd like! How does that sound?"
In the end, Amelie had concluded that Chie needed more friends, and that she wouldn't mind being one of those! Well, as long as the raven-haired girl didn't mind her awful timing and remarks about how her life was pretty bad. But... her intentions were good and that's counted, right?

The subject of leaving a chess club was an awkward one to get at. It was not so much to say she was a bad player, she was just on a bad team. "Oh, yeah, just I was asked to take a dive during a tournament for betting reasons, the principal couldn't punish me directly but the chess team also sympathized. It was a rather large bet. Also only girl on team so I took it out of context."
As she reset the chess board, Chie couldn't tell if Amelia was flattered or embarrassed at her guess to her age but she decided to discontinue that line after seeing Amelia try to draw it out and forget it. Chie laughed a bit internally at the awkwardness of the whole situation, and kept that in mind if she wanted to induce any reaction out of Amelia. Any reaction she needed.
However the prospect of dinner was one Chie did not expect so soon. Not like she had anything better to do tonight. Do wanted so desperately to object, but he held his tongue, he knew that after recalling every brutal detail of her life, he couldn't even begin to take Chie away from anything she wants. Chie mentally shrugged and figured it couldn't be worse than anything she experienced recently. "Sure, why not.

Well, that had been a pretty interesting story. Amelie nodded at it. "Take a dive, huh? I can't believe anyone would do that at a high school level chess tournament, but that's me."
Honestly, anyone trying to ruin a sport as noble and ancient as chess with the filth of bets deserved anything coming at them. That was utterly disgusting. Pity Amy herself had no power to rectify that situation. Otherwise, she may have done one or two things about it. F Well, at least Chie had accepted their small outing! She began placing her pieces back on their original positions, standing up as soon as she was done.
"What are we waiting for, then? My cooking is probably not as good as yours, but I think it's overall enjoyable!"
It's not like she was going to be evaluated to get Michelin stars or anything of the sort, right? "Alright! Let's go!" [Exit Thread]
