"We don't belong here." Kotemon said, trying to pull Duffer away from the mall, unaware they were already nearing the comic book shop. The digimon wore its "human" disguise with the overly long jeans that covered its legs. "We need to go back to the digital world, this place will only bring back traumatic memories that we both know you're not ready to face."
"You saw me during the date, Kotemon! I broke down over nothing, I made myself look like a fool in front of a stranger and anyone else in that restaurant. I'm 18, I shouldn't be afraid of something from two years ago. If I'm going to live on my own like you want me too, I'll need basic supplies."
"And we're going to the Android's Dungeon comic book shop because...?" Kotemon sighed, unsure how Duffer had regained most of his abilities in such a short time from his coma, possibly more given how easily the boy drug him along. "The digital world is filled with monsters and dangerous crap, the first step is to know they enemy." "THY enemy." The digimon corrects. "Whatever. I lost most of my supernatural self-defense items when the human world declared me legally dead, so I need to restock from the back of comic books again too." "And if you run into either of your human families?" "We tell them the truth." Duffer said flatly. "WHAT?! You can't just expose them to several bombs like that! You have to ease them into it! And I'll remind you they still think I'm a murderer and kidnapper!" "Well I can't stay in the digital world forever, Kotemon. There might be weird side-effects, I'm already having nightmares about binary and I don't even know how to read it!"

"Haru will be okay, right, Adrian?" Shoutmon asked from Adrian's Digivice as they explored the mall once again. The very same mall they met Haru in. "Sure, the damages will be healed, but..."
"They'll be alright, Shoutmon," Adrian responds, trying to calm his digital partner. "They've been partners far longer than we have. I'm sure nothing bad will happen."
"Alright then..." Shoutmon says, "And what about my memories? They're still scaring me."
"I promise we'll find out what's going on, okay? You're my partner and my best friend... it hurts me to see you in pain. Especially now with all this crap going on... Come on, let's- AAAAUGH!" Adrian didn't get to finish, as he ends up tripping over Kotemon. Groaning in pain, he looked back to what he tripped over.
"Augh, my arm... are you okay?" Adrian asked the "human," but after a closer inspection, he realized it really was a Digimon in disguise. "...really? That's your best disguise?"

"That is just nonsense an heresaAAAAGH!" Kotemon fell over under the boy. "Kotemon, you alright?" The boy turned and helped his digimon up. "Yeah, yeah, fine... Why don't you watch where you're going yo-" Kotemon noticed the boy's digivice, frowning. "Oh, another tamer. Grand." The boy and his digimon offered their hands to help him up.
"Well, the costume works enough for people to not notice him, but I dunno if that's just because he's too short to be noticed anyways." "Or you could have bought me a holosuit." Kotemon said, annoyed. "Of what, a leprechaun? You're too short to-OW!" The digimon had struck the boy with its training sword. "Apologies for Duffer, he's an idiot and thinks that comic books are a great source of education. I am Kotemon, his teacher." "Speaking of comics..." Duffer glared at Kotemon. "We're on our way to the comic book shop, you wanna come?"

"Adrian, I heard yelling. Is everything alright? Do I have to come out and hurt someone?" A rather loud voice called out from Adrian's Digivice, as Adrian grabbed Duffer and Kotemon's arms to get pulled up.
"No, no, everything's good," Adrian reassured his partner. "I was just clumsy and tripped over someone, that's all. Actually, I ended up tripping over a Kotemon... wearing an extremely funny disguise."
"Another tamer? Geez, they keep getting more and more common every day!"
"Anyways," Adrian says, turning his attention back to the human and Kotemon, "that was my partner, Shoutmon. When we're alone, maybe you guys can properly meet..." Although, he didn't expect him and Kotemon to get along well at all; their personalities were VERY different.
"And he isn't wrong," Adrian says about the education from comic books. "A lot of my education is from movies and video games, so you should probably strike me too."
"We'll have issues if you actually do strike him," Shoutmon threated from the Digivice.
"Shut up, Shoutmon... hey, you don't look like you're from around here, Duffer."

"If my disguise is so "funny" how come it's worked for the past 3 years?" The digimon countered. "I'm sure he and I'll get along. No idea about kotemon though. So you're name's Adrian? Isn't that a girl's name?" The boy asked, incredulous. "And well, I come from Minnesota. That's in America!" He pauses again. "I wonder what they're doing over there? I could'a graduated by now if it weren't for all this..." He mumbled, solemnly. "Duffer, focus. Don't break down again, you need to make some new friends. What kind of movies do you like Adrian? Duffer loves horror films, right boy?" Duffer perks up at the mention of his favorite subject. "Yes, I love 'em! I was on my way to get some horror comics, actually. I dunno if they still sell them though... but this is the only comic shop in town that imports American stuff so it's worth looking into, right?"
"What movies do you like?" Kotemon asked, hoping to lead the conversation along. "I'm not really into video games, more into baseball myself. Not sure how I'm supposed to get back into it though..." He admits. "I doubt they'd let an 18 year old high school drop out play in the pro leagues or the kids' sandlots." "I can teach you how to play a few digital world sports if you need too." Kotemon said, before motioning back to Adrian. "How about you, you have any sports that you two can bond over? Duffer's last human world encounter has left him..." "I did get her number, Kotemon." "And she got your bat and a glass full of your tears." "...Remind me to buy a new baseball bat." He sighed.

"I'm not saying it's inefficient," Adrian tells Kotemon. "I'm saying you look a bit silly in that disguise, especially the jeans." Way to go with the first impressions, Adrian.
Adrian's veins started throbbing with anger as Duffer asked if Adrian was a girl's name. "Last I checked, it wasn't... and I wouldn't bring that up again if I were you."
"Can't believe that I'm saying this but... calm down, Adrian," Shoutmon said from the Digivice. After calming down, Adrian continued the conversation.
"Oh, you're from America, then? I've wanted to visit there... what's it like?" Then he was asked about movies and sports. "Oh, I love all kinds of films. Action, comedy, horror, musicals... not too fond of pure romance or dramas, however. And as for sports... yeah, not really my thing. Played baseball when I was thirteen but didn't like it too much."
Adrian (and Shoutmon) sweatdropped when Kotemon described how Duffer's (apparently) date went. "Uh... sorry, I guess?"
"Hey Kotemon," Shoutmon says, trying to bond with the Digimon. "What kind of things do you like? I personally love eating food and playing music. Do you?"

Kotemon glared at Adrian's statement of him looking "silly".
"Oh, America's a lot like Japan really, more people speak english than Japanese though uh... the food's a lot simpler and less noodle-y. More types of people, I guess, not sure that's the right way to phrase it but..." He coughed. He smiled at the mention of loving horror films though, Duffer's face lit up. "Oh man, oh man, finally! What's your favorite horror movie? I like Werewolf from the 70's, it's about this drifter who comes into town around the same time a werewolf starts killing people and-" Duffer would go on and on about this made for TV film from the 70s nobody actually cared about.
Kotemon smiled at the shoutmon's question... I think. You know, it's hard to tell with the mask and all. "I am Kotemon, Duffer's teacher, partner, best friend, and full-time caretaker. I enjoy fighting, teaching, learning, reading, and... I suppose I could be interested in music. What types do you enjoy?" The digimon asked, hoping to branch the subject.
"Me and kotemon were gonna go read some comic books, you wanna come?" "I think they prefer it if you buy them, Duffer." Kotemon corrects. "Same thing..." "It's really not." "Come on, Kotemon's buying!" "I doubt they take bits, Duffer." The digimon pointed out. "We'll never know until we try!" Duffer grabbed Kotemon and began running to the store... before tripping a few steps before the shop. Kotemon tried pulling its hand away but obviously, it went down too.

"Not all of Japan's food is noodly," Adrian tells Duffer, a bit offended by that statement. Not as offended, though, as when Duffer said there were more types of people, implying that everyone here looked the same. However, by Duffer's reaction, he knew that he didn't mean anything by it, and he let it slip past.
Then Duffer went on and on about some obscure movie from the 70's. "Umm... I'm not too big of a fan of horror movies before the 80's. I really like that one movie from last fall, about the clown?"
"Hi there!" Shoutmon greeted Kotemon. "My name's Shoutmon, and I'm Adrian's partner. I also enjoy fighting, but I really like video games too. As for music, anything with an upbeat tune, or a catchy melody is my favorite kind of music. I don't have too much of a preference when it comes to genre, though. Do you have a favorite food?"
Adrian smiled at how Shoutmon and Kotemon did seem to get along, despite Shoutmon being IN the Digivice. "Yeah, let's get going to this comic book store. Once we're there, maybe I can actually let Shoutmon out to meet you properly."

"...Oh, it's, uh..." Duffer looked depressed. "I've been in a coma for a while, actually. So I dunno what you're talking about." "It's a bit of a long story." Kotemon said, patting his companion on the back. "But that's why we're here, isn't it Duffer? You said you wanted to catch up." The digimon reminded him. "So uh... buck up! That's a thing humans say, right? Buck up?" Kotemon returned to the conversation with Shoutmon. "I prefer classical, soft and easy listening, smooth and calming pieces, haven't heard too many human songs I'd say I enjoy though. My favorite food would probably be a-" Kotemon didn't finish as Duffer pulled him/her/it with him to the comic book shop where the aforementioned trip and fall occurs.
Kotemon carefully stood back up and helped Duffer to his feet, sighing. "You've been doing that a lot more recently." The digimon pointed out. "Perhaps your sense of balance has been affected. The doctor did say there might be some brain damage." Its tone grew worried. "Oh god." Duffer said, worried. "Will I have to go back to that wheelchair?" "Nah, nah, I'm sure they make medicine or something for that. Just try not to hurt yourself and we'll visit the doctor again soon." His partner reassured, but Duffer didn't seem to find comfort in these words. He carefully entered the comic shop, looking around at all the manga, anime, cartoon, comic, and movie memorabilia before turning around and waving at Adrian to join them.

"A coma?!" Wow, Adrian had no idea that was where the conversation would turn to... At least it makes sense why they were going to the comic book store, kind of.
"H...How long were you in that coma? Because a lot can happen in one year, let alone how long you were in it."
"I prefer up beat and happy songs myself, but I love all kinds of music! Your music type is very nice to listen to as well. And hey, we were talking!" Shoutmon yelled after Duffer had pulled Kotemon away. Both him and Adrian cringed when they both fell over, with Adrian immediately helping the two of them up.
"Haha, reminds me of this Gaomon named Owen," Adrian laughed. When the coast was clear, he decided to let Shoutmon out, though he was careful about who was around. Adrian pressed a button on his Digivice, and then out of it came a red dragon with green headphones, looking like he was held together by nuts and bolts.
"Finally, I'm free..." Shoutmon sighed with relief.

"Two years, it's been 6 months since I got out though, and I feel pretty good... other than the loss of balance and a few things I uh... don't think are worth discussing right now." Kotemon nodded at Duffer's words. "A lot of weird things happened back home I guess... Japan still seems mostly the same though." He said, smiling.
"Thanks." The two said at once as Adrian helped them up. "Owen? That's an odd name for a digimon." Duffer said. "Probably got it off of TV, a recent trend is for celebrity digimon to name themselves to differentiate from members of their own species." The mon explained. "Which reminds me, I should give you a name!" "Yeah no." Kotemon answered, annoyed.
When in the safety of the comic book shop, Shoutmon made his grand entrance, much to the confusion of the two. "So how come we're doing this here instead of like, a bathroom or something?" "Kotemon, that's rude. Nice to meet you Shoutmon." Duffer offered his hand to the weird blend of robot and reptile. "Maybe you guys should buy one of those human costumes... or do what kotemon does and pretends to be my little brother!" "Despite the fact I'm at least 20 years older than you, Duffer." "You were an egg when we met, don't be applying your reincarnation thing to our relationship." The boy frowned at Kotemon again while the armored Digimon shook Shoutmon's hand. "Now... where's the American comics?" He began looking around the series of books and magazines that had been set up.

"Yeah, nothing ever really happens here in Japan..." Adrian says, slightly sarcastically. "Unless you count the various Digiports that keep showing up in Shibuya lately."
"Eh, that's just an average day here," Shoutmon shrugs, before the two of them couldn't keep it up and both just started laughing.
"Owen isn't a celebrity though," Adrian corrects Kotemon. "I know a lot of Digimon with human-like names. Agumaru the ToyAgumon, Tawna the Meicoomon, Rex the Guilmon... I could go on, but I'm not going to." Adrian chuckles a bit. "Although I do prefer Digimon that go by their species name."
After Shoutmon made his entrance, he pouted at the two's reactions. "Human bathrooms disgust me. I don't know what you guys do to them, and I don't want to know." He still happily accepts Duffer's hand, however.
"Or..." Adrian suggests. "We can say he's already wearing a costume. Like a child pretending to be one of those monsters destroying Tokyo. From the movies, y'know? Not the... ACTUAL ones that are appearing now. And if you're looking for imported comics, there's literally a section right there."
Adrian pointed at a sign that clearly read, in English, "Imported Comics."

"Give me a break man, Kotemon doesn't like it here in the uh... human world." He whispered the last two words. "Not since the accident at the mall... I'm glad they brought this place back though."
"I don't think Agumaru counts as a normal name..." He motioned to the bored looking guy at the counter. "...What's a meicoomon?" "It's like a Gatomon but fancier." Kotemon explained.
"I don't know what happens in your guys' bathrooms, they seem just as bad." Duffer countered. "I've seen digimon traveling through those things like subways, man. I've seen digimon come out of stalls others JUST USED." "Duffer shush. As for Shoutmon's uh... costume, he just seems a bit too real, I think. He's too metallic and scaled to work as a halloween get-up." Kotemon poked the mon's gut to emphasize this. "If he wore something that covered up his bolts and tail, I believe he'd be better at blending in, like me." Kotemon boasted gladly, crossing his arms and closing her eyes while Duffer wandered over to the imports.
"Come on, come on, Tales from the Underworld... I love that one, a big body count, death themself laughing and making puns about how people got to his domain, at least one big twist per issue..." He dug and dug through the racks, frowning. "They probably put them up higher so they can't scare the kids." He backed up, then smiled as he saw a few issues just out of his reach. "Alright kotemon, I'll need your help!" "No, you need to read less of those comics anyways." Kotemon said, annoyed. "...Shoutmon, how about you help?"

"Yeah, you're right," Adrian tells Kotemon about the too real comment. "Maybe I could stop at the clothing store next door, pick up a couple of basic things for Shoutmon to wear... make sure he doesn't get into too much trouble while I'm gone please?" He asks before he heads out of the comic store to head to the clothing store.
After Adrian left, Shoutmon rubbed where his gut was poked (which kind of hurt) as Duffer asked for help getting some comic from the top of a high shelf. "You want some comic from up there? You got it," Shoutmon says.
He takes a few steps back, his eyes locked on where Duffer seemed to be reaching for. Then, getting a running start, he jumps up as high as the Tales from the Underworld comics are and grabs onto the shelf. "Aha, did it!" Shoutmon boasted. He grabbed the issues for Duffer and dropped them to the ground before his hand slipped and he began to fall. "GAAAAAH!"

Duffer gasped as Shoutmon made a leaping jump, barely making it onto the shelf where his prizes lay. "Dude, careful! I was gonna have you climb on my shoulders! ...That was a cool jump thou-" He cut himself off as the comics began falling. "No!" The boy began scrambling to collect the comics before they could hit the floor and became damaged. "Careful, careful! They probably have a break it/buy it policy!"
The shelf cracked audibly as Shoutmon lept onto it, the digimon slightly too heavy for the thing to hold. It groaned in vein as a warning it wouldn't hold much longer if the mon stayed on, and thankfully Shoutmon fell... right onto Duffer. Kotemon rushed over to help its tamer, pushing shoutmon away. "Duffer, Duffer, you alright?" The digimon asked, frantically helping the boy to his feet. "Yeah, my back hurts but I'm good..." "You idiot." Kotemon said, glaring at shoutmon. "Of all the stupid, irresponsible-" Before kotemon could continue, the shelf finally fell down, collapsing on top of the import comics and scattering pages and pages everywhere. Kotemon was quiet now, unsure how to respond as it pulled papers from its mask. Duffer frantically began trying to clean up but unfortunately the bickering had drawn the ire of the man on duty.
"What did you do?!" The cashier shouted, horrified. "Do you know how much all that cost!?" "I can explai-" Duffer began. "Get out! Get out and never come back!" He shouted, picking up a broom and began shooing them away. Duffer ran, carrying the comics before the cashier could notice.
