Haru was far different from when she first visited the Digital World... A little less naive and more appreciative of the little things in life. When she had first become entangled in the vast web of the Digital World, she had treated it as an escape from real life. After all, it was a glimpse into a world more fantastical and idealistic than her own... what wasn't there to love? Still, now she knew better. This world had darkness and sadness, just like her own world.
The Digital World wasn't an escape... it was another aspect of her life now. Balancing one with the other was key, even if both their own perils. Whereas the human world's perils were more artificial (liking paying rent), the Digital World's perils have been a more visceral not quite like anything the girl has ever experienced. She didn't regret spending any time here... Digimon and the Digital World have as a whole enriched her life in a way that helped fill the void she once had as a person. For that, she could never desire throwing it all away.
Today, Haru was wanting to relax... and what else could be more relaxing than interacting with some newborn Digimon? The girl was relaxing amid the peaceful landscape of cribs and stationary eggs, bottle-feeding a Moonmon in her lap milk, Tawna in her Meicoomon form close by the girl's side innocently watching. She wasn't used to babies, ESPECIALLY Digimon babies... but one of the Swanmon caretakers had kindly helped show the proper way to gently hold and feed one. The small blob-like Digimon was soon enough peacefully sleeping, Haru sure enough rocking it in her arms.
"... They look so peaceful." Tawna softly spoke with a gentle smile, staring at the In-Training Digimon with a look of interest. She rarely had ever seen Fresh or In-Training Digimon, so this was a new experience. Strangely, much of her memories before Haru were foggy beyond some of the most intense ones in her previous life as Raguelmon. She... remembered hatching here, though not much else. Still, she felt at ease here in this land of new life.
Haru let out a slight giggle, rocking the creature in her arms. Maybe it wasn't a human baby, but it did make her feel a bit motherly just caring for the creature briefly. She idly wondered if she'd ever want to be a mother...? She never had the experience of caring for Tawna as they jumped into her life as a Champion level, but it was still an intriguing thought in its own right. Soon enough, she got up and began to tuck the Moonmon to bed in one of the many cribs situated in the village.

The Village of Beginnings was quite the idealistic place, one without a real parallel in the Human World. Apart from having the appearance and feel of a giant nursery, where the floors and buildings had the occasional feel of an actual trampoline, it was truly the main source of life in the Digital World. Several Swanmon made it their duty to both protect and endear the children here - even the one that walked by, giving a chuckle as she carefully scolded Haru:
"Oh, careful there, my dear! You have to hold this one more upright." Her wings would slip around, carefully moving Haru to better cradle the Digimon in her arms. "Otherwise, he's liable to just slip right out of the arms. There we go..." With a chuckle, she'd take a step back at her work, before shooting a small glance towards the Meicoomon. Briefly, that smile left the avian Digimon's face, giving a small tilt of the head, before she gave a shrug, and stepped away. The exchange lasted only a second - perhaps too fast for Haru to notice - but maybe Tawna was used to a dirty look or two.
Well, maybe it wasn't without reason. In such a peaceful and well protected place as 'The Village of Beginnings', not much stood out, and provided a young'n wasn't shrieking its brains out, one could hear a pin drop on a nonexistent concrete surface, from miles around.
As such, a curious sound would slowly fill the air, coming from the shadows of a nearby trampoline house. At a glance, maybe it sounded like... an engine? Something grinding on a grate? No, no, there was a certain rhythm to it.
A purr.
And it wasn't coming from Tawna.

Haru was very compliable to the Swanmon's wishes, letting out a slightly apologetic laugh. It was tricky to hold the lil' blobs due to their lack of limbs, so it was different from Digimon to Digimon. "Oh! Sorry!" she softly spoke as the Champion level walked away... though Tawna's expression seemed to wince slightly.
Why did it feel certain Digimon seemed to dislike her? She wasn't as bothered by it in the past, but it felt more noticeable that others seemed to avoid talking with her or looking at her all funny. Was it happening more frequently, or was she just becoming more aware? She didn't know, but opted to simply shut her eyes briefly as Haru finished tucking the baby Digimon to bed. Of course... her solemn expression twitched awake at the sound of purring, her ears perking up.
"Mmm? Whatcha purrin' for Tawna ~ ?" Haru softly teased glancing her partner with a smile on her face... though one that waned as she saw that Tawna seemed surprised too.
"Thats... Thats not me." the Champion level spoke, though seemed to briefly calm down. She was just getting too jumpy... they were in broad daylight, nothing was going to jump on them here. Still, she was able to hear it nearby... glancing at the bounce house.
Haru while seemed a bit surprised to hear that the sound wasn't from Haru, she wasn't too bothered. It must have been just a Nyaromon that had maybe sneaked out of its crib during naptime! Expectimg purely just another one of those rotund yellow-furred In-Training Digimon, Haru soon enough began to casually walk towards the sound, taking care to not go too fast in case she scared what she thought was just another baby Digimon. Tawna was not far behind her, the maine coon Digimon keeping close.

Of course it was easy to have one's guard lowered around here - why not? The Village was protected on all ends by robust guards, just far enough beyond the horizon so as not to scare or unsettle the newborn Digimon. The Swanmon were also more than capable enough in their own right. so even if a tyke managed to run off, well, they'd still be safe, and they probably wouldn't get very far!
As Haru casually walked and turned the corner, she'd see a rather interesting sight - another Meicoomon, one that might even make her double-take and make sure that the other maine coon was still following behind! The purr was much clearer, radiating warmly from her chest, as she had her arms wrapped around another Digimon - a Nyaromon. At a mere glance, well, maybe the scene would look cute: the smiling cat was giggling, her arms hugging around that smaller feline Digimon, a hand scritching at its back. Oblivious to the human watching, the feline gave a nibble, pulling right at the Nyaromon's ear.
At a glance? One might not think twice.
At a second glance? It would look very much off. Underneath that yellow fur was a Nyaromon in distress, tail frayed out with fur as it desperately gripped around the Meicoomon's arm. One of the coon's claws gripped right around the smaller digimon's mouth, desperate mewlings unable to carry beyond the bouncy castle - and a decidedly red tint stained the Nyaromon's yellow fur, several scratches already dug deep into its sides.
Despite all this, the Meicoomon herself simply casually flicked her tail behind, nonthreatening in pose towards the two onlookers.
"Mmm.~"
Completely oblivious, in fact - the Meicoomon there was simply enjoyed its catch!

Haru for a moment physically flinched spotting the form of a very familiar-looking species of Digimon curled up in the shade. She had to actually double-that Tawna was still by her side, but no... it was actually another Meicoomon! How bizarre to see... she actually had never seen another Meicoomon in the entirety of her time spent in the Digital World, so it was bizarre to finally see yet another besides Tawna! She couldn't help but smile seeing the thing nuzzle the Nyaromon, their purring absolutely adorable to witness. She actually bent down on her knees to be more on the Champion level's height letting out a slight giggle. "Heh ~ How are you doing? Are you playing with th-"
It was then... she saw the red-tinged fur on the Nyaromon, the gashes on its body, and it's eyes. The eyes of someone desperately calling for help, but unable to say anything.
Haru's pupils shrunk to pricks, the blood draining from her face as she cupped her mouth... holding back a scream. She had a look of sheer horror on her face, stunned speechless as her heart began beating rapidly within her chest, her eyes drawn to the poor In-Training.
She... No, this couldn't be... Could it have been? Not here... Not here. She came all this way to the village to AVOID things like this! The girl was in a complete state of shock, a shiver running down her spine as she refused to believe what her eyes was seeing.
Tawna's reaction was less severe, though the feline Digimon's breathing went silent... she staring at the other Meicoomon as if they were a mirror, and back to the helpless In-Training. She could tell that Haru was in absolute distress over this...
But why wasn't she herself?

It was just, perhaps, a few moment's hesitation... but that span might have marked one of the biggest regrets of Haru's young life.
As both kind words and muffled screams were presented to this strange feline, the Meicoomon seemed completely ignorant of Haru's presence - or perhaps she simply thought that the words of a mere human weren't enough to stop her. Nonetheless, as the tamer stood stunned, the feline simply moved the process along. Looking down at the panicked Nyaromon, she gave a chuckle, and a small lean back of her head...
... Before diving right forward, her fangs effortlessly slipping into the hapless in-training's back. Her scream only echoed out for a fraction of a second, before her frame dissolved into a mass of red data - a color that lasted only for a moment, as it had effortlessly turned blue, loaded directly into the Meicoomon's chest.
Mere feet away from the tamer. Heck, maybe she'd even feel the data pass by her face.
Only afterwards would the Meicoomon even notice Haru, and with a curious tilt of its head, it would simply try and move to walk around her... before she would lock eyes with Tawna. Her eyes widened, expression brightening as she gave a warm chuckle:
"Mei! Mei! Another Mei!"
Her tone wasn't that of malice or aggression - no, these were the words of a child who had found a fond playmate! She gave an excited giggle, running on all fours to playfully circle around the other Meicoomon!

Haru had always been a slow-thinker... Her mind didn't move fast normally, she always needing at least a couple seconds to process information first.
She wished she had not dawdled.
She didn't know why she didn't do anything... She SAW the look on the Nyaromon's face, yet she JUST let it happen. She for a moment just thought to herself that this had to have been a misunderstanding... It just HAD to have been.
It wasn't.
It was too late to do anything before she saw the poor creature killed and its body turned into data, absorbed by the second Meicoomon... If she had just did something... Anything, that poor baby would be still alive. She tried her best to avoid vomitting, the callous sight far too much to handle. She knew Digimon could be killers... but this was a special level of vile.
Yet at the same time... a confused look of horror soon replaced the girl's face as the second Meicoomon reacted in a manner that was... unbefitting its cruel deed. As if they were a child, they cheerfully raced around Tawna as if nothing happened. As if a murder didn't just happen just now. She... had heavily mixed feelings right now, unsure if she was to be angry or in disbelief.
Tawna's eyes did widen slightly seeing the fresh killing of the baby Digimon, but was more baffled how quickly they had jumped from "predator" to "playful kitten" the moment they noticed her. It was a little offputting frankly that this individual had just cannibalized a helpless In-Training Digimon, the same species as her own... Something just felt decidedly off by their gleeful fondness directed towards her, especially so quickly after the killing. If they had not stumbled upon them in the act, the tone of this would have greatly differed.
Tawna gave Haru an apologetic look, sighing slightly towards the other Champion level. "... What are you doing here?" she calmly spoke to the fellow Meicoomon, earning her a sharp look from Haru.
This wasn't going to be fun... is it?

Yes, if the motions had just been a few seconds apart. If Haru and Tawna had not witnessed the act that had just happened, Tawna might have just been awkwardly trying to push away an overly friendly Meicoomon, while Haru chuckled in the distance. But as it stood, this wasn't the case.
The tamer's presence continued to be entirely ignored by the cat - she wasn't important, not in the face of another Meicoomon! The cat simply continued to slip around, giving occasional steps forward, before jolting back and circling around in the opposite direction. She seemed more like an energetic kitten than a menace, genuinely happy and curious to see another one of her own kind around. Only one glance was shared to Haru - a passing look over the shoulder, given right when Tawna shot a look to her tamer.
Those words drew her attention right back. And at them, the Meicoomon stopped, confused, tilting her head. "What am I doing? Silly - the same as you!" The feline then moved to the edge of the castle, peering around the corner, before looking right back to Tawna:
"Chase off the birds! I'll give you half of what I get!"

There was an unsettling air to the situation right now, one that even Tawna was unsure how to define quite correctly. This stranger was by all means non-hostile, but at the same time has proven themselves to share the same, dark pragmatism she had.
Why did it feel almost comforting seeing them...? She knew Haru was horrified, but she couldn't bore ill intent to the Meicoomon. "... That is not what we're doing friend." she politely corrected their statement, an almost casual tone to their voice. She too glanced away from the bounce house, but only let out a sigh against the offer. "I have no intentions fighting with the Swanmon... You shouldn't either. Its too dangerous." she calmly spoke with a tone of indifference to her fellow feline, though making quite clear that she didn't condone the Meicoomon's methods.
Haru... couldn't believe what her partner was doing. The one thing she almost wished they snapped and attacked, and it was the time they aimed a more social approach. She managed to stand up, but clearly her face was having a difficult time displaying her anguish. "... Tawna." she managed to softly mutter, unable to bear looking at that... murderer. It ate a baby... and it was all her fault.
Tawna could only tilt her face down, unable to even look at her tamer now... The Arkadimon was a horrid ordeal, but this was a whole new level of awful. Still, she couldn't harbor wrath towards one of of her own kind... in a way, they were like a mirror to her... in more ways that she wanted to admit. "Haru. I beg of you... let me talk." she softly pleaded to her tamer, causing the girl to tense up. Sure enough, she turned her attention to her fellow Meicoomon, a solemn look on her face. "... Do you even know the full-consequences of your action? If you try to continue this... your life could be in danger." she asked the Champion level, though sadly tilted her head... as if expecting one particular answer.
Haru felt absolutely betrayed... Why was her friend trying to talk to this... this monster! It was as if they knew just what this fiend was thinking... yet, why? Why did this have to happen?
Nothing about this was right.

Well, wasn't that curious! "You're not? Then why are you here?" The Meicoomon, more confused than anything else, simply gave a disappointed turn of her head. Honestly, this other Meicoomon was starting to seem quite strange to her - what made Tawna act like this? As Tawna continued to speak, though, a bright light of realization flashed into the Meicoomon's eyes. Yes, she realized:
Tawna simply didn't have enough data yet! "Its only dangerous until we're stronger than them!" Her response was paired with a chuckle, truly thinking that Tawna was just being silly, and perhaps even a bit of a coward. It was just natural to the Meicoomon: if you couldn't handle a threat now, you could handle it later. It might just take a few more 'notches' on the belt to get there.
Like this, the Meicoomon thought that she was giving a convincing answer to her new friend. 'Come along', she thought, 'let's hurry and make those fears of weakness melt away'! They had a lot of easy data to round up - and then they could go after the Swanmon, and then the surrounding guard. The plan was foolproof, in her mind - but Tawna's last point didn't match anything that was said before.
'If she tried and continued this'? She tilted her head: what else was there? "You strange." The somber expression on the other Meicoomon was absolutely foreign to her - and at that realization, the Meicoomon would pad on forward. She didn't attack - she'd merely try and poke at Tawna with her paw.
"Did something happen? Maybe Mei can help! Let me look!"

"What my friend and I wanted to do doesn't matter now... Your more important." Tawna deadpanly spoke, the emotion in her voice having drained out finally. Emotions were too much for her to even feel now... She could relate so much to this Meicoomon, but she wasn't sure how much of that was a good thing now.
"I don't need to be stronger than them... I already am stronger than them..." the feline boasted, though her expression was somewhat pained. If she were a less wise individual, she'd have happily agreed to assist her fellow Meicoomon... and she'd have certainly been able to. The Swanmon here were strong she imagined... they had to be to make sure no predators would try scooping up an easy meal.
Predators like Meicoomon and her.
Haru was deeply disturbed and frustrated by the nature of the conversation... just the way that the two Meicoomon so casually conversed despite how chillingly vile they acted... It was truly alien. As much as she wanted to scream and tell them to leave, she couldn't manage. She still could not understand why Tawna was so willing to try and convince this Meicoomon to stop. They weren't listening to reason... So why bother?
She felt awful... She was having her own mentality turned against her she felt... but there had to be an exception! It killed that baby, and it was willing to continue!
Tawna solemnly shut her eyes. It was just like she thought... The classic lust for power, the same lust she once had. If anything, what Meicoomon was saying was purely naive... but they needed to learn. They needed to learn there was more to life than just an endless pursuit of power. She felt their paw touch her, she giving a pleading look to Meicoomon. "There's more to life than just power... I was like you once, but I have changed... Or at least tried to."

Why was the Meicoomon important? More than any other of Tawna's points, that first line just earned a confused and curious tilt of her head. "... But that doesn't answer..." No, no, this other Meicoomon wasn't going to answer her.
More interesting to the Meicoomon was the next point: her ears stood on end, and she gave an elated smile! "Oh, so then we can skip up to them! I'll catch up to you real quick, don't worry!" She would let Tawna boast - but if she was telling the truth, then she could start with more substantial meals already! Well, provided the other coon would cooperate.
Which seemed far and far less likely each moment. Indeed, the Meicoomon was naive, but she had quite a curious nature about her: a mere touch at Tawna's frame proved useless, as the other cat had no idea what to look for in this sort of thing. But there was definitely something off, from at least her perspective. But there was one word she did understand:
Change.
There was a variable. And the Meicoomon wanted to know what it was: for the first time...
... Her eyes met Haru's. "Is this what made change?" Regardless of Tawna's answer, the Meicoomon would start to approach, padding right over in the tamer's direction, a curious-yet-disappointed look in her eyes. Was she really taking Tawna at face value?
Or was she thinking of Haru's value as another meal?

Tawna just let out a mildly annoyed sigh towards the Meicoomon's misguided ethusiasm. Was she always that dense as well...? It felt like she was a different person back then... "You are missing the point... Rushing to gain power is pointless, and you will eventually plateau. What will you do then, when you cannot grow any stronger?" she asked, bringing up a somewhat old question from a while ago back. She had to readjust herself to thinking like a beast once more, and it was leaving her questioning much about herself as a person... No, as a Digimon.
Haru didn't like this... this mockery of her friend one bit. She wasn't sure if she could ever see even Tawna the same way again... just the way they almost seemed to relate to the Meicoomon disturbed her. She REALLY didn't like the way they were looking at her, she flinching as she took a somewhat fear step back. "Wh-what are you looking at me for?" she finally spoke up, not in the least bit comfortable around this... this monster. No matter how cute their visage was, all she could see was the fearful look of her "... Do you not even feel guilty that you killed and ate that Nyaromon? I-It could have been another Meicoomon when it grew up..." she questioned the creature, unable to relate to them. Considering Tawna's In-Training level was a Nyaromon, that could have been likely... right? This thing seemed awfully trusting of Tawna, just because they were a Meicoomon.
What... What were Meicoomon even now? She wasn't even sure just what to think now if that were the case. She softly pulled out her D-Arc from her pocket, holding it close to her breast as she began scanning the second Meicoomon... Hoping that Tawna would keep them busy a lil' longer.
Tawna for the first time in the conversation's course seemed to have her mood sour, she squinting at Haru being called an it. "... She is not a this. Her name is Haru, she is a human and is my best friend." Tawna corrected the Meicoomon, standing between Haru and Meicoomon somewhat defensively. Maybe Haru didn't agree with her now, which she expected... but this did not soil her desire to protect Haru at all costs. "Do you know what friendship is like? Do... Do you even have a name?"
Haru is using the Digital Field Club's Super Scanner to scan Meicoomon.
Super Scanners: The scanners of the Field Club are much stronger than the scanners one can find in the stores. After a post of thorough scanning they show up to five of its attacks, alongside its prior and following digivolution levels. Any information gathered with the scanner is immediately sent back to the database back at base. The scanner can access this database and show any info desired once it has been saved.

Well... well, that was actually a question - one that boiled down to 'why was the Meicoomon seeking power at all'? The feline gave a chuckle, figuring Tawna as just her 'silly self' for another few moments: "Oh, that's easy! I'll..."
Her tone came to a dead stop, a red tint entering her cheeks from embarrassment. Briefly, the feline would sit down, crossing her hands, thinking as hard as it could at the question at hand. Heck, one could almost think that steam was coming up from her head. "I... guess I'll know when I'm stronger?" Even now, she seemed unsure...
But her curiosity in Haru was far greater than that simple question. She'd step quite a few yards forward, up until Tawna would step into her path - the Meicoomon's head even bumping against the other cat's leg! "Nyah... I look because you made this one different!" Shaking out her head from the bump, her ears flicked at another interesting question. Did she feel guilty? "Guilt? Guilt is feeling... when data left behind, right?"
Tawna managed to interject another question: what was friendship? What was her name? The coon blinked blankly in Tawna's direction, tilting her head. "You not friend?" Her voice even seemed a little sad at the tone... but if anything, Tawna's words were slowly starting to chisel through whatever shell was here. If they had a little more time-
"Haru! Tawna! Where are you two at?" Echoing from around the bouncy castle, the Swanmon's unfortunately-timed call reached their ears. "Visiting time is over! I need to take you two back to the gate!"
BIRD! Hearing the delicious sound of a distracted Swanmon, Meicoomon seemingly forgot entirely about Tawna and Haru's existence, and instead made a beeline to the bouncy castle. Left uncontested, it would start to scale the wall, climbing upwards, attempting to greedily sneak a peek around the side. The stinger on its tail gave a twitch, the predator in pursuit of its next target.

In a way, Haru felt conflicted just watching this Meicoomon. What they had done was absolutely despicable, but the more she watched them, the less they seemed evil and more genuinely misguided. They... they in a way were like a really messed up kid, one whose parents never tried to set straight. While her heart was aching, she at the same time was finally starting to understand why Tawna seemed so keen on trying to convince the creature to change... As if she went through this same exact process through her. "... Is her being different a bad thing?" she managed to mutter, trying to follow through with Tawna. Maybe... maybe like Tawna, this Meicoomon could change? "Guilt is when we do bad things that we shouldn't have... Tawna's done bad things too once." she added on, glancing at the scanner results... which gave her some serious worries now.
For a moment, Tawna's deadpan nature seemed to drop as it almost looked like as if maybe... just maybe, her words were reaching out to the cat. For the first time in the conversation, she smiled lightly at their innocent responses. "No... But we can be friends. We jus-"
The voice of Swanmon suddenly called out to her and Haru, causing Tawna's pupils to dilate as her fur stood up on its end.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, nononononono!
She had for a moment felt she came so close to connecting with the fellow Virus-influenced coon, but now their attention was drawn towards Swanmon on the other end of the bounce house... and she recognized the kinda stance they had as a sort of hunting mode. "N-No! Calm down!" she desperately called out, she swiftly jumping onto the bounce house as well and aim to try and constrict her fellow Champion level in a attempt to restrain them from going any further. "This ISN'T what you need to do!" she desperately spoke, unable to give up on her fellow species member just yet.
Haru could only flinch at the sudden reactions from both cat Digimon, but she instantly realized the problem was escalating. Oh god, that Meicoomon wasn't thinking of attacking the Swanmon... was she?! As she saw Tawna try to jump up to try and get the Meicoomon down, Haru shook off her shock to run around back of the bounce house, hoping to catch the fowl Digimon and warn her. "S-Swanmon! W-We have a problem! G-Get the babies to safety! Please!" she desperately called out to the avian Digimon, running up to her with a sheer look of panic.
Oh god... she had to tell her what happened, wasn't she? This visit to the most peaceful place in the Digital World wasn't going well at all. She... she didn't want anyone else to die. Not here...
Tawna has jumped up to try and pry Meicoomon off the bounce house and restrain her harmlessly.
Haru is trying to alert Swanmon that something is wrong.
