Jiro bowed again. "A-a-a-ah, y-y-yes, I s-s-see, s-s-sorry, I won't apologise again! And I'll try my best to not faint again!" He gave a nervous smile. Then he looked thoughtful again when they were asked if they were forced to be here. "Eh? Ah, n-n-no, I w-w-wasn't forced to be here, Ryuko-san just asked me to come along, s-s-said I should get to relax too if we're forced to..." Otohime sat up again, crossing her arms. "My old man insisted I go and relax after we spend 5 days in a row raisin' a roof and the skeleton of a new house over in Nerima. I told him I don' need relaxation, I can go on for 5 more days, but he kept sayin' "A young woman needs to take it easy now and again." She said that last part in a stereotypical old man voice, then groaned. "Fucker probably thinks I'm weak or somethin', even after I threw him into a wall during trainin' once."
Well, it was pretty hard to argue the logic of somebody who was apologizing in order to never apologize again, but that was probably sounder logic than whatever Ryuko had used until now, so Amelie could definitely discern the boy as the smart one of the duo, even if it wasn't obvious enough. Resisting the urge of the calling the proposal to come along as 'asking for a date', the brunette adopted a thinking expression.
"Oh, so you really were forced to come." She remarked, but it wasn't like that piece of information was really important or relevant to the situation at hand. At least not in comparison to the love Ryuko's 'old man' felt for her. "You know; if I didn't know better, I think your dad just wanted for you to have some fun between working sessions. Overworking yourself at any age can be really dangerous, you know?"
In all honesty, she was a bit surprised that she had been so adamant at just... being out a night and relaxing in a bathhouse? Then again, there was probably something silly like her pride or the like at stake. "Besides, it's common knowledge that resting a bit between major tasks yields more or less the same performance than doing it all at once. Even if you don't feel tired, your body does when exerted for long enough."
Otohime blinked. Then she turned to Jiro. "Uuuh, can you translate that from Nerd?" "She says you need relaxation and rest to work as best as you can!" "Ah, humph! Guess the old man was on to something after all! Better relax then, so I can kick his ass at carpenting!" Otohime promptly slid into the water and let herself drift on the warm water. There was a bit of an awkward silence until Jiro spoke up again. "So, uh, m-m-miss Amelie. Wh-why are you here? I-i-s your job hard? o-o-o-or do you have stress elsewhere? If so I h-h-hope it will pass soon!"
At least Amelie had to admit, the duo was pretty good at the combination of both brains plus brawn. She was glad to have Jiro as an 'interpreter', so to say, and ended up smiling at Ryuko getting what she meant. Win-win!
"That's the spirit! I'm sure you'll kick his ass if you rest enough; better to enjoy yourself while you can, amirite?"
The boy's own question caught her a little by surprise, however. Thus far, the brunette had been the one to ask the question instead of disclosing the answers so... this was a pretty strange turn; she seemed thoughtful for a second before finally deciding to... go with the truth, more or less.
"Well~, if the accent and the fancy-sounding name aren't enough of a clue, I'm not really a native; ki~nda moved to Japan... a little less than half a year ago, I think? In order to attend college and those kinda things. I can say I've been getting used to the Japanese way of life little by little but it's still... a bit harsh at times, you know? Sides, this is the first time I've been to a Japanese bathhouse, and I was told by a friend they were quite relaxing so... no harm in trying, I guess."
She could definitely say they lived to their reputation. "Why are you building a new house, by the way? That sounds like something pretty fun to do."
Jiro nodded along asd Amelie explained where she came from.
"Ooooh, a non native, that's cool! I h-h-h-hope you enjoyed Japan so far!" The drifting Otohime raised a finger to point at Amelie. "Haha, gaijin." This wasn't an attempt at insulting, that much was clear from her voice. It was likely a joke...but it wasn't funny either. Jiro just looked at her, then shook his head. "S-s-so where did you come from, then? France?"
Otohime looked up, then laid her head back down into the water. "Well, ain't that obvious? People gotta live in 'em. That's why they hire carpenters. To build house skeletons. We got hired by some rich family that moved in from Sapporo, and they wanna have a big ol' traditional house. Since my old man is one of the few to still know the olden and traditional technicks alongside the new shit, they got him to do it. And since I'm his apprentice I gotta help him."
Well, that was that; she went there. For a second, Amelie was totally unable to register what Jiro was saying or any further conversation; instead, her face was getting progressively redder. Not from embarrassment or bashfulness, it was an emotion that Amelie seldom felt, and that, in all honesty, was... quite strong.
Almost unconsciously, an open palm flew directly to Ryuko's cheek. The brunette had a few buttons that could be pushed in order to make her truly angry, Gaijin was certainly one of those. Not an instant afterward, she fully emerged from the bath and made her way towards the changing room. The teenager wasn't all that concerned about anyone taking a peek at her uncovered body, and knew that the bathhouse's staff would soon be present when the gossip of a fight happening inside the baths spread, so it was better if she just made herself scarce.
Way to end a day, really. The next steps would be fairly easy; drying up, getting on her clothes and exiting this place.
Still, why she felt so frustrated at the moment? The girl could feel the tears welling up in her eyes and her fists balling unconsciously as she entered the changing room.
Time seemed to slow down as Amy delivered a nasty slap to Otohime's face. Jiro put his hands to his mouth in shock. And while Otohime was still winding down from the surprise, the girl had already left. Eventually the girl got up, rubbing her cheek, fuming in anger! "What the -fuck-? That fucking bitch! Slapped me for no reason! I'm gonna knock out all her teeth!" She ruched for the exit, but Jiro held her in place. Any other person, she would've beaten too, but her lil' buddy was safe. "M-m-m-miss Ryuko-san, no, please, calm down!" "The fuck should I calm down for!?!? That bitch hit me!" "Y-y-y-you saw her before! She would not have done this without a reason!" That got the raging sukeban to hesitate. "Whassat even mean???" "I-i-i-i-t means you must've done something that caused this!" "Whaaaaat? Oh fuck no! Then I gotta find out what it is and apologise! Thanks to tellin' me, lil buddy!" Otohime now rushed into the changing room, and called out when she saw Amy. "Hey you, wait!"
It was frustrating. Beyond belief, in all honesty; both at how gratuitously that word had been used and at her own attitude about it. Amelie was better than that; she knew it. Still, that anger that had boiled on her insides hadn't subsided, and now she was just staring at the folded tower in front of her. Sure, her body now was more or less dry and she was wearing enough clothes for her modesty to not be that compromised, but she still had to put on most of the actual outer clothes.
Of course, her reverie had to be broken, and by no more and no less than the person who had roused most of what Amy was feeling right now. Lest to say, if Gazes could kill, Ryuko would be dead where she stood at that precise moment.
Amelie ignored her words, buuut... she didn't make a gesture to leave the changing rooms. It was fairly obvious how angry she was and it'd take her more than a 'wait!' for her to talk again. Yet, apparently... it seemed that she was willing to listen.
Or maybe the brunette just didn't want to get out of the changing room in underwear. That'd be just a little too embarrassing.
Otohime actually recoiled from the glare she received from Amy, something one would not expect from a delinquent. "J-j-j-jeez dude, you're so mad still!" She scratched her head and looked at Jiro. "What am I gonna do now? I dont wanna make her madder!" Jiro, who was hiding behind her, thought for a moment. "A-a-ah, apologising would be a good first step!" "Oh, yeah, that sounds good!" She then turned back to Amy. "Uuuuh, look dude. I got no fuckin' clue what I did wrong, but whatever it is, I'm really sorry, ok? I'm still kinda new to this whole "Talk To People Rather Than Punching Their Face In" stuff, so I sometimes do bad things. Like, can you tell me what I did wrong? So I dont do it again?" While her language was still rough and unrefined, the desire to make up was sincere, and evident from her body language and tone.
Otohime would have to seize the moments she had if she wanted to tell Amelie something, given that she pretty much would hear until she got the rest of her clothes on. Her skirt was already up, and that meant her time was running out.
Well, an apology was a good first step, but... not having a clue of what she did? The brunette exhaled, still irritated even though Ryuko's words probably were true. She really didn't know? Geez.
"You really didn't know?" She just refused to believe it, yet the seed of doubt had already germinated in her mind. A simple gesture or confirmation would make her follow with her words. "Gaijin isn't a nice word. It's both degrading and insulting, and nothing any foreigner wants to hear in any kind conversation. I'll admit I may have overreacted, but I just... dislike the word. A lot."
At least that much managed to calm her down a bit, not to say that the strange sensation of something fuzzy rubbing against her leg was oddly calming. Wait... something fuzzy!?
Amelie looked down, and to her surprise, she found... a small dog (maybe a puppy?) leaning against her. She looked at Ryuko, a bit incredulously.
"What's a dog doing in a bathhouse? I thought bringing pets was forbidden."
Did he even have an owner? He didn't have a collar or anything that identified him. So weird.
Otohime looked genuinely surprised to hear that Gaijin was such a bad word. She turned to Jiro. "Buddy did you know that word was super bad?" Jiro's teeth jittered in nervousness. "N-n-n-no, not at all, honest!" Otohime turned back to Amelie and...performed a bonafide saikeirei, the bow expressing the most deep-seated regret. She looked down at the ground, her hands on her knees. "I'm so sorry, dude! I thought it was just a silly word you can call foreigners! I don't fucking care where someone comes from, all that matters to me is if you're a good or a bad person! Honest, I swear! Please, I'm sorry! You can punch me again if you wanna if that helps you feel better!" This apology was completely sincere, despite the rough speech. She held the bow until she noticed the dog. Jiro yipped and hid at a distance behind a pillar. Otohime actually knelt down. "Holy shit, a little dog! Hey buddy!" Even if the human looked scary, the dog could still feel that she was sincerely friendly and very positively disposed towards it.
There wasn't much Amelie could do in the face of such a sincere apology, in all honesty. Somebody going out of her way just to apologize was probably way more than what the brunette had requested, and frankly. Even if Ryuko seemed to be pretty rough around the edges, she seemed to be, deep-down, a very nice girl.
A bit embarrassed at the apology, pink managed to tinge Amy's cheeks for a second as she did her best to wave off the apology, or at least the more formal side of it. "It's fine, I guess. Just be more mindful of it next time and we'll be good." The blush became a little more intense as soon as the girl offered to punch her as an apology, and a wave became a way more awkward reaction. "N-No need to! I know that wasn't a very good first impression, b-but I'm not really a violent person. Sorry."
After that small episode was over, a small smile managed to pull at the corner of Amy's lips as she knelt a bit later than Ryuko in order to see the puppy up close. The dog seemed to be as clueless as them, even though his disposition was genuinely happy, as demonstrated when he began to lick the raven-haired teenager's face.
"Seems like he's a pretty good boy." Amelie was nothing short of amazed at the unlikeliness of this event but still couldn't resist to pet the adorable animal. "How did it get in here? I guess I should ask in the reception."
The teenager herself wasn't sure about it, but since they stray animals were pretty much nonexistent in Japan, she could imagine the dog's future not being very bright if he didn't have an owner. And that's kinda why she had to act fast, she guessed. As long as no one noticed him, she had to get changed and hopefully do something before the Little Guy was discovered.
Oh well, at the very least he seemed to be pretty entertained with Ryuko, and gazing a bit curiously at Jiro. He began to inch closer to the boy, and seemed ready to jump directly on top of him with all his probably-insignificant mass.
Otohime wiped sweat off her brow, she seemed relieved. "Oh, thanks dude, I got this really terrible knack for gettin' people mad at me. Some time ago I woulda not care, but the old man and Jiro here both told me to keep tryin and be nicer!" She even pulled down her medical mask to smile. Surprisingly, her mouth and teeth looked perfectly fine, safe for missing one teeth in her lower jaw. She really seems to wear it solely because it's cool.
Once she discovered the dog was all chill, Otohime wasted no time petting it. "Ooooh who's a good boy? Whoooo's a good boy? Izzit you? 'Course its you!" She smiled, but looked a bit worried when the dog got closer to Jiro. "Hey, leave my little buddy alone!" Jiro was frozen in fear. He'd never seen a dog in person, and his first encounter with one was already scaring him half to death!
Talk about embarrassing! Amelie's face was in an interesting place at the face of such heartfelt apology, even if in the end she managed to compose herself. She took a deep breath and finally managed to speak.
"No need to thank me, really. Can you take care of the dog while I get changed? It'd be a shame if somebody entered the changing room and began screaming or something." She was still pretty sure that animals weren't permitted inside bathhouses, something that made Little Guy's a mystery on itself. How had he managed to get in here?
Even if that person seemed to be Jiro himself! The small dog seemed to be way too menacing for him, but, for some reason, he seemed to find in Jiro a playing partner over Ryuko or Amelie. Why could that be? Amelie herself couldn't think too much about it, but at least she had gotten pretty much fully changed.
But that wasn't before the dog managed to affectionally rub his face against Jiro's leg. Just before trying to climb on top of him! Hopefully that wouldn't be seen with any kind of hostile intent, because, in all honesty... the puppy just wanted to play.
"Sure thing! Hey, hey doggo, come here!" The still-nude Otohime knelt back down and tried to get the dog's attention...but he seemed more interested in Jiro! The disguised dragon began to breathe faster in terror...and as soon as the dog tried to climb on top of him he fell over backwards, unconscious. The doggo ended up on his belly...his dragon belly, as his hologuise shorted out from the impact. Otohime was quite shocked. "Aw shit! Uh, n-n-n-nothing to see here! Everything is ok!" The sukeban tried to shield Jiro from Amelie's eyes, unaware that the girl was in with the Digimon crowd, too.
