"What, is that the best we can do?" Leith growled while looking at Niko but addressing Bellamy. He didn't seem satisfied with releasing the girl, so even after Niko sniffled and nodded he still didn't release her. Unfortunately, he didn't have a better idea. Before taking his foot back, though, he crouched and hissed, "Earlier, while your friend was busy with those two, I tried to get Veemon to go for you - end the threat instantly. His mercy is the reason you're still alive, but now you're at mine." By this point he was putting so much weight on her that she was having trouble breathing. It almost looked like he didn't want to step off at all despite - and perhaps even because - of that fact, but then he glanced at his friend lying in the dirt. "...if I see you again, I can't guarantee he'll still be so understanding. You'll hope the cops find you before we do."
When Leith finally released Niko, she didn't even get up. She just gasped for air. The boy remained tense and jumped back when Niko suddenly rose to her feet like when she attacked him. This time, though, she sprang forward, scooped up her partner, opened up a digi-port, and escaped to the real world through it. Only now did Leith finally relax a little, at which point he was panting as if he'd been the one who just ruined the local landscape. "Oh, boy... Bellamy, that was actually pretty sweet." After wiping some sweat with his shirt and moving his dischevelled long hair out of his eyes, he went on, "All of you guys, actually. Like I said. I'm not drowning in money, but I owe you bigtime either way. Somehow." After looking off where the digi-port had been a moment, he briefly rambled, "I actually thought I'd regret doing nothing, but funny enough, I don't. Weird."
That was the moment when a ball of light materialized in the air in front of him. This was something he'd seen before: the little ball of light fell slowly enough for Leith to pluck out of the air, and when it fell into his hand it became clear what the little machine was: a D-3, specifically a crimson red D-3. But this was something he'd only seen happen to others, not himself. "What the-!" The young man's eyes turned wide as dinner plates. His teeth gritted. "How is-?"
Bzzzzzzzt! That was the only sound it made when it touched Leith's skin, and simultaneously a word appeared on the new digivice's screen that looked very troubling: ERROR. But before Leith could ponder it, the digivce became light again, then flew through the screen of his old D-3, similar to how TV depicted a Pokemon entering a pokeball. "Colin, guys-!" Then in the same manner that the odd red D-3 appeared to become a part of Leith's black and blue model, something else shot out - something bigger. This was a digiegg, one that was a solid red, the same shade as the D-3... and it fell much faster than the new digivice. Leith had to bend down to catch it before it hit the ground and hesitated to stand back up once he had it. "I- but, guys-?" Leith gave Luke, Colin, and Bellamy all a look of confusion and shock, non-verbally asking them how what just took place was possible.

Bellamy simply gave a stare back at Leith. In a previous life, sure, he wouldn't have minded bringing a decisive end to this dispute, but, that wasn't his life now. He had learned the value of mercy and forgiveness, lessons learned across two lifetimes. Those were things he had reluctantly accepted, and they had transformed him from a spiteful, lonely little wretch to a digimon with a loving partner, brother, fiance and children. He was not going to be one who would deny these things to others.
While he knew Colin and Luke would be disapproving of the way Leith was making it hard for her to breathe, well, he at least understood he'd be a bit pissed off about being tricked and attacked, so said nothing, but if she fell unconscious he would intervene. Fortunately she didn't, and heeded his advice and left the scene at once.
When it was safe, Colin and Luke approached too, both still a bit startled by what happened. Luke had an answer for Leith's quandry though. "Well, you did the right thing I think" he said. "You had the right to defend yourself and you granted her mercy where it counted. Hopefully that'll be enough".
That was the word, 'hopefully', but he was sure this was the only good outcome. Killing someone who was acting irrationally out of grief was not something that Colin or his partners were willing to do.
Then they were distracted by the appearance of the light. It seemed to be floating toward Leith, and to their surprise, it turned out to be a second digivice, only this one was colored red. "What the-?" Luke asked, astonished. Leith already had a digivice, why was he getting a second one?
Then what happened next astonished them further. The two digivices... they seemed to be combining. Leith asked what was going on, but Colin had no answer. "Er... I've got no idea. When it comes to digivices they usually end up doing their own thing sometimes" he explained. And then a digiegg appeared. This surprised them all.
"Well... that's sure somethin'" Bellamy remarked, the Astamon folding his arms. "Although... digiegg appearin' in front of a human outta nowhere, that usually means that it's your partner". Bellamy glanced at Veemon. "I got no idea what the story is, and I bet he won't remember much either, but, I reckon you should look after that egg. The digimon inside could be a link to his past".
Colin and Luke had no objection to this advice, so they watched Leith for how he would respond.

"I thought you said you and Luke were twins." After glancing at Luke conspicuously, he added, "Not identical twins, apparently, but twins. So if he's my partner, but I've got a second egg..." Leith looked down at the egg just then, expecting it to hatch on the spot like Veemon had. It didn't. "...I thought I was going somewhere with that, but apparently not. I guess we'll just work it out. Somehow." Again, he glanced at Veemon, only this time it was for a more practical reason. "Alright, now I've got an issue. I've got two hands. I can't carry Veemon with one arm, but I also know I'll drop this egg without two hands. Could one of you just carry this to the train?"
"I'll do it." Leith inhaled sharply, startled when Veemon revealed he was then standing behind Leith with a steadiness that didn't seem fitting giving his ordeal, but nonetheless he was there and even took the egg before Leith could offer it. "Where's Niko?"
"Not here, which is the most important thing. But are you OK?"
"I'm gonna be." Veemon looked down at the egg with an expression too tough to decipher. "Don't forget I was your partner before this digimon." At first Leith was a little taken aback by the jealous command; that didn't seem like Veemon. Could he have been mentally shaken by the events? Leith wouldn't have blamed the blue digimon, but then he showed his hand; he was smirking the same Leith did whenever he made a wisecrack.
"Who're you again? I can't remember." Veemon's smiled disappeared from his face as quickly as Niko had disappeared through her portal. "OK, don't even scold me: I instantly regret that one." Again, Leith brushed his hair out of his eyes and looked over his shoulder at his other companions. "Alright, I'm not gonna make you deal with me much longer. Let's find a Trailmon, catch our breath, and go home." He shrugged and then added, "We're going home, anyway. I guess you guys still have stuff to do. But, uh... yeah."

"Well, yeah..." Luke began. "But, we're not exactly sure how it happened to be honest. I mean, in our previous lives we were really close friends and then..." he tried not to reveal too much, given the pain of what happened. "Next thing we know, the two of us are rolling out of the same egg in the Village of Beginnings, what happened in the meantime, we've got no idea".
"Like Colin said, sometimes data and digivices just do their own thing" Bellamy added.
Leith then asked if they could help carry the egg, but it seemed that was redundant given that Veemon had recovered enough to walk. "Okay, if you're sure..." Luke said, worried Veemon might drop it if he was hiding his fatigue.
It seemed that their job was done for now. Since there was no more hostile parties in the area, Luke and Bellamy felt it was safe to de-digivolve back down to Rookie again. They did so with flashes of light, both of them looking a little dazed at how suddenly the battle had occurred.
"Well, guess that's what we'll be doing now" Colin said, supposing there was nothing else for it. "Yeah, we'll be heading back to the City, we still need to fix Bellamy's holosuit. Oh, wait, Leith, want to exchange D-Terminal details? Just in case you need a hand, or you have a job, or... just wanna talk I guess". He would understand if they didn't want to at this stage.
Supposing there was little else to do, the trio would return to the Trailmon platform, board the train that would carry them back to Terminus City, then part ways for the time being.
