Desmond did not expect that hug from Calliope. The blond tamer had both arms on each side of the lady's body in the air without touching her. His eyes widened and his jaw dropped a bit. He heard her voice asking him for the real reason of why he had tears in his eyes. Part of him wanted to say that it was the ankle but she wouldn't believe it. He knew that he was a terrible liar, he never been good at lying. He didn't know how to feel right now. They just met a few hours ago and so far, she has been good and kind to him. It would be egoist of him to not be sincere with her. Both hands formed a fist on each side as his muscles tensed for a moment. He was trying to stay in control of his thoughts, but he didn't find a way to do that. He closed his eyes and his head sank on her shoulders. He took a deep breath and then, he released everything. Both arms fell on his side for a second before hugging her back softly. He would then begin to whisper.
"I... I just feel like..." He wasn't sure how to say it. He wasn't sure why he felt that way. He has never been that vulnerable in his whole life. He was a good student, didn't have many friends and he was more than okay with that. Now that he was with his partner, everything changed. He had to protect him, but it was the Digimon that protected him. Was he really that weak? That powerless? He didn't want to feel this way. He was no hero, he is just a welder that worked every day because routine made him feel safe. Now, he had nothing of that. Just a stranger in a strange land. And now, he felt like he was making Calliope's life harder. She had a goal, find her brother. Himself? He just was wandering around for no real reason. Maybe deep inside it was his escape. Conflicted emotions were making his eyes tear up again. He was only extra weight on her shoulders.
"You... I'm just... Just... You will never find your brother if you have to take care of me all the time." He then managed to whisper. And he let go of the hug. "I'm just slowing you down..." He moved his head to be able to look at her face and wipe his eyes with his sleeve. "You are a good person, Calliope." Taking a deep breath, he tried to smile. "You don't need to stay with me..." And he looked away from her eyes. He would stay silent for a little bit before speaking again. "Sorry. I'm a mess right now. I do want to help you. I really do." Lifting his eyes to face hers, tears began forming again. He knew how pathetic he was right now. And he hated himself for that. "But how can I help you when you are the one that is constantly helping me?"
"I'm... Erm..." Was he going to say it? Hesitation could be easily seen in his face. He would bite his lip, his eyes looking up and down like he was avoiding her eyes. "I.. You know... I kinda of..." He paused and took a very deep breath. His left hand slowly moved to move a strand of hair away from her face and then brush her cheek. That might not have been the best move he ever did but right now, he wanted to tell her something that was in his mind. "I like you." He said shyly almost inaudible while his cheeks turn red. Staying silent for a moment as he held his breath hoping that she wouldn't be freaked out but his sudden confession. "I mean, you have been nothing but kind to me and, and... I mean, I did nothing for you and we don't know each other and..." He couldn't find the words to finish that sentence.
Meanwhile, DemiMeramon was now hiding behind Sandmon. He didn't really understand what was going on. He never saw Desmond cry before. He wanted to go hug them but he was doubting himself. "Psst!" He whispered to the other Digimon while poking her. "What is going on? I'm confused." And he kept poking her another second or two before making himself as little as possible. He would sometime peek from behind the Sandmon but would go back hiding after a second. "What should we do? What should we do?" He whispered to her.

Calliope didn’t know what else to do or how else to help, a hug at the moment just seemed like the best course of action. Besides it’s hard to avoid answering a question when your being held hostage by the person. Still gripping on to him she sighed “please just be honest” she waited listening to the silence of the blond tamer as the two Digimon stood of to the side quietly. She was just about to give up and let go when he suddenly tensed up. “Desmond?” she quietly stated trying to get his attention once again. And once again she was met with a bit of silence. Calliope turned her head towards him when he simply let his head fall on her shoulder. She lightly softened the grip she had on him knowing he gave up in trying to hide it from her.
Sandmon stepped a bit closer to see was going on before walking back when Desmond finally made the motion to hug her back. The girl listened quietly as he tried to begin his explanation. Hearing he was trailing off looking at him she tried to figure out what happened. He was different from when she first met him and she wondered what happened to change him so fast, she hoped it wasn’t something she said that upset him. For a moment she was thinking it might have been the digital world that was getting to him but it seemed ultimately unlikely since he seemed rather unfazed by some things. “just trust me Desmond I’m here to help not to judge” she smiled softly trying to help him get his thoughts clearer. She didn’t know very much about the blond tamer but she knew enough that the way he was acting was to be of concern to her. She could tell he was starting get upset again, trying to wrap her head around the situation before Desmond once again started to explain himself. She froze a bit when he said she wasn’t going to be able to find her brother if she constantly had to take care of him “huh?” she stuttered out trying to figure out what suddenly brought this thought to his mind. She moved her arms to her side when he broke the hug, she had a pretty stunned look on her eyes as he looked at her.
“your what…” she didn’t understand why he was being so hard on himself and referring to himself as a burden to her “t-that’s not true Desmond!” . she placed a hand on his shoulder when he was wiping away tears and referring to her as a good person. None of what he was saying was making very much sense to her. Calliope tensed up when he suddenly that she didn’t need to stay with him. Her face tilted toward the ground seemingly unable to look him in the eyes. She remained silent as he apologized to her. The girl didn’t seem to have anything to say, or she really didn’t want to say anything at all. she looked back up at him when he asked how he can help her if she was consistently helping him, once again she remained silent to his question not saying anything to confirm or deny his point. Her eyes focused on his as he was trying to admit his feelings unbeknownst to her. Seeing him hesitate she straightened up a bit trying to figure out how he was going to end that mixed up statement. She remained still as he moved her hair and brushed her cheek, her face dusted a light pink color. His next statement internally startled her, she had to fight back the feeling to let her jaw drop right then and there. Her blush darkened a bit as she mentally confirmed what he had just said. Her eyes went back to the ground as she was in thought. She let him finish his thought before compiling her own.
Sandmon watched the whole Scene play out before her only turning around to address the small fire ball when he poked her. Sandmon turned around and looked at DemiMeramon while he asked what was going on “I’m not sure it must be a human thing” she didn’t know too much about humans or their strange personalities. Sandmon watched as DemiMeramon peaked out before simply hiding behind her once again. When he asked what they should do she waved her arm nub at him to hush down a bit “I don’t know but we probably shouldn’t interrupt them” turning back to them she watched as the scene continued.
Calliope was quiet looking down, she eventually shook her head and sighed before saying “your right Desmond… I don’t need to stay with you” she ran a few fingers through her hair before continuing on “but just because I don’t need to stay doesn’t mean I don’t want to.” She finally looked up at him and smiled “your not slowing me down in finding my brother, if I went off by myself I would probably get lost and injured.” She chuckled a bit “I’m not staying out of pity or an obligation to help you I’m stay because… well I like you too, and I like being around you” it may be silly for her to say that to someone she just met but the whole point of meeting new people is to learn more about them and get closer. “you have helped me Desmond, think about it: you pulled me out of the bush, you stayed when Allomon attacked, and you even ran out in front of Allomon when he attacked me… you can’t say that’s not helping.” She stood up and brushed off her knees before extending a hand to Desmond “now come on, we’re heading to the forest and I’m not leaving you behind”

Desmond's eyes were glued to her face as Calliope spoke. She told him that she was staying with him not because she pities him. She was staying by choice and that made the blond tamer feel much better inside. He didn't know what to expect, to be honest. She could have left him here and go on her own way. But she didn't, she stayed with him. Not knowing what to say to her, he just listened and stood silent. He would just do that until she stood up and brushed her knees. "Thanks." He then said after a long moment of silence. He looked at her hand for a second before moving his left hand to grab hers. A small smile grew on his face as he used her to stand up. And almost fell down instantly because of his ankle. With all that talking and emotions, he actually forgot that his ankle was in a bad shape. Going back to a sitting position, Desmond sighed and let go of her hand. "I might need a second here."
As soon that he sat down, the DemiMeramon peeked from behind Sandmon nervously. He was like hiding from the two humans for like a child that did something wrong. He poked Sandmon once more as like he didn't have her attention already. "Hey, hey." He would whisper from behind while still poking her. She was fun to poke because she was still a bit squishy. "Should we go help Desmond?" The fireball wasn't sure if they should go see their tamers now that they seemed to be smiling. He also heard them saying that they liked each other but he didn't quite understand why they seemed hesitant to say that. To him, it was clear that they liked each other, What he didn't know was that Desmond was more than just liking her. The blond tamer had deeper feelings that the DemiMeramon just couldn't understand.
Taking a deep breath, Desmond extending his hand to Calliope. "Round two?" It was easy to see that he was feeling much better now. Emotionally at least. He would wait for her to help him get up and this time, he made sure to put a little pressure that he could on his ankle. He kind of awkwardly hopped on one leg and then placed his other hand on her shoulder for support. "I think it's getting better..." He then admitted. Maybe not as much that he wanted it to be but he could feel that it didn't hurt as much now. He did few hops on his good leg, almost falling on the first one, before getting steadier. He didn't want to put any more weight on his ankle. Once they get into the forest, they could try to make something. But they had to get to the forest first. "I think I'm ready..." He slowly said before going from looking at the ground to looking at her face.
"Psssst." The Digimon was still hiding behind Sandmon. "I think they are moving. "Should we be moving?" He asked with yet another poke. He had no idea that he was most likely very annoying to her. If she would to go closer to their tamers, the DemiMeramon would follow while using her as a shield. The Frenchman would wait for Calliope to start moving before doing the same. He had his left arm over her shoulders for support and would be looking at the ground to not lose balance. He would look at her from time on time and smile at her if she would look at him as well. Desmond felt much better now that he told her that he liked her and that she too liked him. Sure, it was just a like and not a love but he didn't want to ruin their friendship by using that word. He was content with just like for now. But, every time that he would turn his head to see her, she was more beautiful with each look. He had a budding crush on her, it was easy to see. He hoped that she didn't feel awkward because of that though. "Are you okay, Calliope?" He would ask while they went toward the forest.
It wouldn't take them long before reaching the large trees of the forest. They could hear the wind making the leaves dance above them. Desmond wasn't used to forests, he never went camping before or just walk inside a forest. Well, he has never been inside a cave neither so it was all new to him. He didn't know exactly how to feel about all this but after taking another look at Calliope, he knew that it was going to be alright. "Should we go in?"

Of course Calliope wanted to find her brother but she wasn’t just going to leave Desmond behind to go off by herself, it wasn’t in her nature nor did she feel okay leaving him behind. Calliope shook her head when he thanked her “there’s no reason to thank me.” She gripped on to his hand ready to help him to his feet seemed to not want to get up. She almost fell over when he dropped back down, giving a sheepish grin she rubbed the back of her head with her free hand “ah, s-sorry it slipped my mind.” Welp that could have gone better. She released her grip on the blond tamer before nodding in agreement “in hind sight probably should have waited” fortunately he didn’t seemed anymore hurt than before. Hearing him say he needed a second she nodded “of course take your time.” The human looked back at the two Digimon and smiled.
Sandmon Smiled widely at the human everything seems to be better now. She turned and looked at DemiMeramon who was hiding behind her “I think everything is handled now.” Looking back at the humans her attention was once again caught when the Digimon poked her “hm?” Sandmon thought for a moment when he asked if they should help “lets see how far they get then we’ll act.” She approached closer to the humans.
Calliope gave a thumbs up when Desmond asked to try again “alright round two” she smiled. She stretched readying herself to try and support him from falling. She brightened up when he said he thought it was getting better “good that means it’s probably healing up a bit more.” She held on to his arm to keep him a bit more steady while he hopped on one foot. The girl softened her grip upon hearing he was ready “alright.”
Sandmon watched as the humans got ready to get on the move, she listened as DemiMeramon tried to get her attention. She nodded regarding to them getting on the move “that’s what it seems to be and unless we want to get left behind we better start following them.” The little Digimon began following after the humans.
Calliope didn’t mind being rested on it made it easier and faster for them to move rather than having Desmond try to walk himself. The girl returned his smiled as they continued on their way to the forest. Calliope was glad everything was alright, she was still confused why he was so adamant on thinking he was a burden to her. But she’s glad she was able to convince him otherwise, even if he didn’t think so she thought he was a really good person. She was dazed off as they continued walking until she was shocked back into reality by him asking if she was okay “huh? O-oh yeah I’m alright” in all honesty her back was still sore from colliding with the rock wall but she was going to deal with it another day, right now they had more pressing matters at hand; the approaching forest. She gazed at the forest when he asked if they should go in. only a moment after she smiled at him and nodded “yeah lets go.”
