"That's...Actually kinda rude...Did he at least apologize or...?" Naoko trailed off. It was slightly on purpose, as she could see Otohime was still seething. The hug was as powerful as it was rare, as it seemed to calm Ryuko down. Naoko pulled away after a bit. Old ass arcade game was exactly the combination of words needed to pique Naoko's interests. "That last one sounds cool but you might need to tell me a bit more about it than just old arcade game. Like...What's it like? Where in the arcade is it? Does it have two player stuff?"
It now hit Naoko she might be asking too many questions. Oh dear. "Er...Actually? Lead on. Il wanna see it for myself."

Back in the corner, there were a few vintage machines, but most were of 90s games like Street Fighter or Final Fight. This one, though, appeared to be a genuine original Pac Man machine from 1980. It looked weathered, but well taken care of. The screen had some burn to it, but everything was still visible. Otohime patted the machine's side. "'ere it is! Dunno why it's so special just cuz it's old as fuck, but last time I kicked it because I died in the game I had to spend the night in a cell, so clearly this must be some sort of important stuff! Maybe ya can enlighten me!"

"...Ryuko that's one of the original Pac-Man machines. It's really old so it's probably really fragile, so it was probably illegal to kick it or anything..." Naoko was actually sort of shocked to see something like this. Well, not shocked but surprised. "Can't just kick one of these things because you died..."
Even though she was known for throwing the controller sometimes. Only sometimes. "...That also kind of sucks to hear. You doing okay?" She actually decided to check to see if the game was able to be played with two players. Maybe this would be something interesting to play with her newfound friend.
Granted, she had never played two player Pac-Man before.

"Eeeeeh? Illegal? Just because it's old and fragile? Well, makes sense, kicking old people is also illegal. Safe for my teach, he's not fragile at all!" Otohime looked the arcade cabinet over. It certainly didn't look as stout and robust as her teach! "Uuuuh, dunno if it's two players, dude, but hey, we can play one after the other! You go first, then I go! And the one who does better wins! She cracked her knuckles, put a hand to the back of her head, and made her neck crack, too. She looked more like she was getting for a fight. "Aight! Ready set go!"

"Yeah, it's also kind of arcade property too, so kicking it would make that vandalism if it had broke..." Naoko nodded and looked at the cabinet before looking back to Otohime. The idea of taking turns...That made sense. That actually made a lot of sense. "Sounds good. Uh...I'm gonna warn you now that I'm not too good at this sort of thing but...well, we're here to have fun, soooo..." She trailed off before she fetched some coins out of her pocket, put them in the machiiine and started playing!
And more than a few minutes later, Pac-Man's death wail could be heard as Naoko stepped back from the cabinet. She had gotten...not too far but she felt like she did okay. The girl looked over to Otohime with a smile. "Your turn!" It was a giddy smile. She was enjoying herself!

Otohime watched excitedly as Naoko played, even cheering her on. She was utterly delighted at her score, even if it was not that big. "Hey man, that was great! As long as you had fun, dun matter how good your score is!" She rubbed her hands as it was her turn at the machine. The coin slid into the slot, and she began playing! ...and she pretty much missed the point of the game. She ignored power pellets, retreaded ground, and played catch and keep away with the ghosts rather than focusing on collecting everything. So while she ended up playing longer than Naoko, her score was significantly lower. Nevertheless, she seemed cheerful. "Hah, that was fun! Your turn!"

Naoko found that her capabilities at Pac-Man were...outclassed by her friend. But at the same time, there were aspects of the game that Otohime just did not understand whatsoever. Yet it was quite fascinating to watch. "It was fun. Both playing and watching you go." She smiled, it now being apparent that Otohime's cheer had been rubbing off on her this entire time. Anywho, she cracked her knuckles and decided to take another go at the girl's behest.
This time, she actually decided to take a few pages from Otohime's book, playing a little like she did but mixing it with how she had been playing earlier. This had mixed results! Namely, she ended up playing ALMOST as long as Otohime had, but had a little bit of a higher score to show for it. What was more noteworthy was Naoko actually getting into the game, and making cute little pew pew noises as she eventually managed to eat all four of the ghosts at once at one point.
Inevitably, though, she lost. "...Oops!" She snerked as she stepped back. "That was...more fun than I thought."

The sukeban was all smiles, too. "Yeah man, havin' fun is all that matters!" She had one more go at the machine, herself, and once again lasted long, but her score was even lower than last time. That didn't seem to matter anymore, though. As long as her friend had fun, she could stomach a bad score! "So, wanna play some other machine? Or do ya wanna go somewhere else? We got this really great dagashi shop around, an' we gots a tiny shrine for a local kami 'round here up on a hill, that's a cool an' quiet place too! or we could jus' go back home an' eat melonpan!"

This was definitely a good idea. Yep! Naoko was actually pretty happy she had come here, quietly cheering Otohime on despite her hilariously low score and...unorthodox method of tackling the game, really. When the girl's turn, or what turned out to be the final one, had ended, Naoko found herself going for a bear-hug, the kind Otohime was prone to give.
That question was a pretty good one. Unfortunately, she was kind of at a loss on where to go or what to do next. However, one of the words that Otohime mentioned struck her interest. She was hungry and she did like melonpan... "...That last one. Let's do that last one. I'm kind of starving." Her mind had been set!

"Aight, then it's settled, let's go back home and eat some melonpan! My teach sometimes makes his own! But usually he just buys it at the bakery down the street!" She put her hands to the back of her head as they walked out. Jiro followed them at a distance, a nonpresence as ever. It was easy to forget he was there at all, though Otohime always stole a glance backwards to make sure he was still there. Once back home, Otohime threw open the front gate. "Yo Teach, we back! We want Melonpan!" The old man called back from the garden. "What's the magical word?" Otohime rolled her eyes. "Pleaaaaase?" "Good, I'll be with you shortly. Sit down in the living room, please." "Aight, come on Nao!" She then ran into the living room.

Shoot, Keiji made his own melonpan too? Homemade goods were always something worth writing home about, no pun intended. So, they departed with Jiro in tow! ...Naoko wasn't sure what he had been doing the entire time her friend and her had been goofing around in the arcade but she was sure it was productive. Jiro was a good little guy from what she knew.
When they had returned to Otohime's home, Naoko had opted to remain silent. Couldn't go making an embarrassment of herself verbally all the time. It was good that the teach had decided to give them food, though. She actually was kinda hungry. Naoko did not run to the living room but she did follow Otohime in...after changing her shoes.

The living was, of course, rather traditional in decor and style. A kotatsu in one corner, being misused as a TV table during the warm months, and a low, traditional japanese table surrounded by four kneeling pillows in the middle. The floor was tatami mats, the door was of paper, and incense slowly burned away on the windowsill, giving the room a pleasant aroma. The only thing remotely modern was the television, and even that was just the latest CRT fashion from the early to mid 00s. Otohime and Jiro were sitting next to each other on one end, with Otohime patting another pillow right next to her, motioning for Naoko to sit there. Eventually, Keiji entered the room, holding a plate of fresh melonpan. "You are both lucky that I made some melon pan earlier today. They were supposed to be for the Yokai Hunter meeting tomorrow, but I can just make some more." He set down the plate, and had a seat at the head end of the table, Masaki leisurely wandering in from the garden to lay down on his side a distance away from the old man. Keiji then turned to Oto and Nao. "So, how was your trip to the arcade? Did you have fun?" "Yeah, we totally did, right Nao?"

Naoko made a beeline for the pillow. After all of that physical activity earlier, it was a relief to be able to sit down and chillax for a while. "Yokai hunter...?" She asked Keiji as the man returned with -food.- She nabbed a piece of melon pan and chomped into it, chewing and swallowing before she grinned. Holy crap, this was actually really good! "...Thank you for giving us some, Madayoshi-san." Anyways...
"Yeah. We had a lot of fun at the arcade--Your daughter's really good at DDR, which is...well, I'm impressed. Like, super-duper impressed. Plus we had a blast with the Pac-Man machine, too!"

The old man nodded. "I cannot say I am familiar with any of these arcade games, they all happened after my time." He sipped some tea. "But, I am glad you two had fun together. And I am very glad that you two get along so well." Hm? The girl asked about the Yokai Hunters? "Ah, the Yokai Hunters are a group that a friend of mine founded about 30 years ago. We are a folklore club that researches old stories of the Tokyo area and note them down for coming generations. Occasionally we also get permission to explore old, abandoned, haunted places." Masaki scratched his head and giggled. "Hehehe, the old man sometimes is as adventurous as his child!" "*Ahem* Perhaps. But it is nice to spend time with my friends. And occasionally we find these "Digital Monster" yokai, which is always fun."

Was it bad that Naoko couldn't really peg where Keiji's...time was? Must have been long if he hadn't been around for the age of Pac-Man...Anywho.
It turns out that the Yokai Hunters were very...eerily reminiscent of the Field Club. Huh. Seems great minds do think alike. Even if they were also years apart. "So...You're like a mixture of historians and ghost hunters? That's actually kind of neat." It also provided a good reference as to where Otohime's sense of adventure came from. "You've found more than one of those? Uh...I know Masaki's right over there, but what others?"
