It's said by many that the Network Plains were, in fact, among the most peaceful of the regions one could hope to find in the Digital World. Thus far, for the most recent traveler (to her knowledge, at least!) this was proving to be true. It was calm. Quiet. Empty with the exception of a city way over there to the left but really, it felt...empty. Which was why the Keramon thought it perfect to stop and rest. Even a weird aberration needed to stop and rest sometimes! She picked a clear spot, unslung her pack and started pitching the lil' tent contained within it, humming a merry tune to herself. To passerbys, the sight of a Keramon of all things deciding to camp in the plains was a very odd one. Yet her work was real quiet. Very quiet. Wakako Mozume

When it came to the Digital World, the Digital Core was the most comfortable locale for Wakako to travel in... for a number of reasons in particular. First of all, the Network Plains were where her home was... Did the Moving Library count as a home? Well, kinda... but it was the place she lived primarily at. Second of all, the Digital Core was just kinda a safe place in general. Even with her spirits, she felt comfortable sticking to around here if possible.
The Spirit Wielder was in their Chromiamon form; the carbuncle-like Digimon hoisting a bag of belonging as she casually walked amid the open plains... She was heading back to the library from a small venture from Terminus City for supplies, carrying both fresh ingredients in the bag and even a few imported copies of manga from the human world she bought with some of her spare money. Digimon books were okay and all, but she felt comfortable with something from her own world... even if in a way it only made her miss it more.
The human-hybrid took a moment to seat herself on a boulder amid the plains, attempting to catch her breath from the long walk... Though soon caught sight of a rather curious sight. A strange blue... thingy, pitching a tent. She didn't really know how to describe the Digimon, but they did catch their interest long enough to cause the girl to briefly wonder who they were... Another traveller? Her ears twitched as she hopped off the rock, taking the time to slowly walk towards the strange-looking Digimon... a curious, but overall unhostile look on her face. "...? H-Hello?" they quietly asked, unsure what to make of them... she just hoped they were not hostile. She hated fighting.

Mae was blissful in her lonesome working, yet she wasn't very aware that there were others, at least one, present. She had managed to pitch the tent half-way, before Wakako's greeting had caused the Keramon to jump up, with a very mortified "EEEEEP!" When she landed, she promptly flattened herself and covered her head with her hands.
She didn't seem hostile. Just startled. And scared. Mae did not remove her hands from her face until she very, very slowly began to turn around, peeking through a moved finger before she quietly asked, "Oh...Hi, what are you? I've never seen you before..."
Fear was slowly giving way to curiosity, and the Keramon slowly rose to her full height before revealing her face and looking the Chromiamon over. "Woah, you've got jewels! Are they magic? That's so pretty!"

On closer inspection of the mysterious Digimon, Wakako had to admit they were more stranger up close than they were at a distance... Their long spindly arms were longer than even the tentacles that hung from their collar as they floated; their face looking like some kind of art project gone wrong. More curiously though was their reaction towards her, they looking absolutely terrified of her... Were they more scared of her than she was scared of them? The Chromiamon could not help but sweat awkwardly at first... though fortunately they seemed quick to recover from being shocked.
"O-Oh! S-Sorry, did I scare you? I-I didn't mean to, I was just curious who you were!" the human hybrid swiftly apologized as she bowed her head, a bit embarassed about her presence. At the same time, the Digimon seemed... nice? They didn't seem to be acting mean towards her (what a relief), if anything soon becoming interested at the pristine gemstones that adorned her body, causing the Spirit Wielder's eyes to widen slightly. "Oh! I-I think they're magic! I'm not really too sure... Its hard to really say whats magical or not I feel here in the Digital World." she quizzically responded, briefly palming at the ruby embedded into her skull... it sensitive to the touch.
The Chromiamon felt at ease at least around the stranger, though she was now unsure if she was being rude or not staying around here. She... wasn't too good at the whole "making friends" thing, but this Digimon seemed nice... Maybe just saying hello would do? "Umm... My name is Wakako Mozume... I-I was just coming from Terminus City actually... I-I hope I wasn't interrupting anything." she meekly spoke, patting at the bag that was slung around her shoulders.

"Oh, oh! Who am I? Bahaha! I'm Mae!" Mae was confused. Why were they bowing? "I was scared but then I realized you weren't one of the people that's out for my head, eheh, so...you must be nice! And when in doubt...Always assume magic or something real weird. I mean, I dunno how I eat data. I just do."
It was quite evident this Keramon was a chatterbox when provoked. Mae reached out to haphazardly tap at the ruby. She -also- had no idea if she was being rude or not! Then again, she had very little actual social interaction! "Oh, oh! Terminus! I was heading there but I decided to take a nap here so I was pitching up a tent and stuff. Hmmm...Wa-ka-ko...wakawakawaka?" She proceeded to open and close her mouth repeatedly.
Like a yellow tac-eating monstrosity from the 80s. "...That's a nice name."

Wakako actually was thankful that it was just a misunderstanding it seemed, Mae here merely caught offguard. It was never her intent to scare anyone, so it was a weight off her shoulders knowing that Mae wasn't freaking out at her. What did they mean by people out for her head though? Did people want to actively hurt this Digimon? Why though? They seemed nice, so why? "No, no! I wouldn't want to hurt you! I hate fighting... Its my least favorite thing about this world. I only fight when I have to." was quick to speak apologetically, not at all having hostile intent.
Mae was however... interesting to say the least. She wasn't sure how to react as the Keramon proceeded to poke at the gem on her head... she flinching reflexively at the Rookie level's hand touching the ruby. It WAS a bit sensitive, but she didn't want to seem rude or anything... Instead, she just meekly took Mae's hand and gently pushed it away. "I-I hope I don't sound rude, but try to not smudge it... Its hard to keep it polished." she politely spoke, smiling warmly at the very least... even giggling as Mae seemed to take delight in pronouncing their name. "Th-Thank you! M-My mother gave it to me... It roughly translates to peace."
The Chromiamon's expression soon turned pained, their ears drooping. She did it again. She just had to remind herself about them... her parents. She missed them so much... Wakako grew quiet as they struggled to find something to say.

Woah, this was...startling. Someone that didn't want to hurt her? Someone that also didn't really like fighting? "Oh, so that makes two of us. Yeah, fighting's...I don't like it. I'm apparently good at it but I really don't like it. Hurting people makes me feel bad." Which was why this whole hunting thing really bothered her. The Keramon shrugged. "Thanks for not hurting me though. I might have a healing factor but golly does it hurt sometimes."
The gem actually -was- part of the weird carbuncle thing...Huh. But it smudged ea-- OH NO. "Aaah! I'm sorry if I smudged it!" Oh dear, did she have a cleaning cloth on her? Waka didn't seem upset, though...Was it nothing? Possibly.
"Mother...I don't think I have a mom...Do I...? Hm...Where does my name come from...?" The term mother made Mae a little uncomfortable. She had no clue who the other parent was. Sure, she knew her dad. Her dad wanted her dead. But...Who was the other? More importantly, though...Why did the Chromiamon look hurt? Mae kept quiet, before she slowly inched a little closer. "...Are you sad? That's okay. I get sad sometimes too but then I eat a lot of smores and feel happy again later. What's got you sad? If you are, at least..."

There was actually something kinda nice about meeting someone who also didn't seem to want to fight if they had to... With how aggressive Digimon seemed to be at times or battle-happy, it was honestly nice to see someone who held the same opinion. "W-Wow... Thats actually really nice to hear. I-Its hard for me to relate to most Digimon because everyone just seems so... comfortable I guess with the idea of fighting." the Chromiamon mused, smiling lightly at this kindred spirit.
Fortunately, Wakako wasn't the type to get easily miffed from what others did usually... and it was clear Mae didn't mean any harm. "I-It's okay, I should have been a bit quicker." the rabbit-like Digimon briefly spoke, she reaching for the wool-like fur around her neck and plucking a piece off... she polishing the ruby gently.
Wakako's mood had sunk somewhat at the topic of parents as a whole, partly because of being homesick. It didn't feel good being stranded in an unfamiliar world like this, away from her real family... Not that people like miss Yukiko or Sho were bad, its just... she genuinely missed her real mom and dad. For a moment, she was just a bit lost in thought... only snapping into reality as she realized Mae was talking. Mae... didn't have a mom? She actually found that a touch hard to imagine... Then again, Digimon aren't exactly born like humans; they hatch from eggs... but something has to lay the egg, right? Or no? It was hard to wrap her head around that conundrum.
The human-hybrid briefly wiped her eyes, they slightly moist as she tried to push her own worries back into their corner where they belonged. "I-It's okay, nothing you did... I'm just a bit sad because I've lost my mom and dad. Its been almost half a year since I have last saw them..." the carbuncle softly spoke, letting out a glum sigh. She couldn't help but lightly smile at the mention of smores (those did sound really good right now), giving the Keramon a slight nod. "I-I... I'm trying to find a way home... I want to go back to the human world."

Was this world really so violent? Mae found herself...not having much of a hard time believing Wakako's words. She had been at the pointy end of aggression, more than once. It was, however, hard to tell if her smile was genuine or forced. It seemed more the former. More importantly?
It seemed like Wakako really was sad. Super sad. Sadder than Mae. How was that even possible? Furthermore...Human World...Home...Things clicked quickly for the Keramon. "Oh, you're...I've heard of those like you. Humans wielding ancient ghosts to turn into Digimon...So...You're...stuck here...?" She mused, before she inched forth to offer the Chromiamon a reassuring hug. Well, at least she was trying. "I don't know any ways to that world, but the least I can do is offer food and someone to talk to...I don't really have a home to go to either. Though, I can say that the ground's my home as a result!" She felt like she had expertly avoided talking about her parents. Which was good.
They scared her.

Mae might have been a silly-looking... but they were actually really keen it seemed! They actually figured out that she was a Spirit Wielder? Well, she supposed mentioning the human world was a big hint at the very least... The mention of ancient ghosts to turn to Digimon, it was all true. Normally she tried to hide her identity to strangers... but she couldn't help but feel like she could trust this one.
As the Keramon reached out for her, the Chromiamon's form shimmered as it dispersed into rings of fractal code... leaving behind a small, defenseless child perhaps shorter than the Keramon. It.. was actually a bit embarassing to show her true self once more... How long has it been since she has left one of her spirit forms? Two days now? She had not considered how long it has been... she has just not seen a use for it. She returned the hug, trying her best to keep her emotions bottled up. "... This is the real me. I... I don't belong here." she softly spoke, her tone low and disheartened.
She didn't expect for Mae to know anything... No one did really. It was just something she had came to expect as something normal to expect. Still, knowing that they at least wanted to help in spirit... It did cheer Wakako up slightly, enough for the white-haired girl to smile. "Its okay, Mae... I'm just trying my best. I-I think we all just have to when we're facing problems we don't otherwise know how to deal with. Baby steps... Baby steps." she spoke, her mood already recovering slightly. "Y-You are a very nice person..."

Admittedly, Mae had heard quite a bit about these...strange humans. So, meeting one, being able to identify one, -and- be correct was...shocking to her. Even more shocking was the Chromiamon dispersing to reveal an actual human, not unlike the nice one Mae had meet a few months ago. Yet...This one was younger. Smaller. More fragile. Scared.
Mae felt some strange sort of kinship with Wakako. The kind where you realize you're familiar with how someone might feel about their situation. "I think that's what matters. That you're doing your best. I don't really know how to handle my own situation either...You're super nice, too!"
She really didn't belong here. Why was she here? Why did the ghosts do that? Mae let out a noise as she slinked back and released Wakako from the hug. "...Smores. I should get to those!"

It wasn't perhaps the safest thing to drop her guard down like this... but Wakako felt safe here with Mae. They might have looked funny or creepy, but she had no reason to believe they were a mean Digimon... There was something about them that really spoke out to her. She lightly smiled as the Keramon tried to comfort her, it offering just a slight bit of help. All of this was daunting, but she was trying her damn best to make the best of this! They both were it seemed... It made it just a little easier for Wakako to empathesize with this Digimon just a bit more. "Th-Thank you... I... I'm trying my best too. I guess we're both trying to make something out of our situations, huh?" the girl awkwardly laughed, not completely comfortable with the topics at-hand... but it was clear she was at least making an effort to improve the mood.
It didn't take long for Wakako to be released from the hug, Mae seemingly offering to make some smores... Holy crap, when was the last time she really had a smore actually? She remembered her class in school making them once... and she once tried to make some in her home's fireplace.
... That didn't go exactly well admittingly. Best to just forget that incident.
Still, she couldn't help but want to try and lend a hand! She was a bit sore from walking, so maybe it would have been alright to stick around for a bit? "Is... it okay if I could help? I-I've not made smores in a long time." the white-haired girl quizzically asked as she took the bag around her shoulder, she pulling out a fresh bar of chocolate that she had bought back in Terminus. "I-I had a little chocolate on me... Its probably a little melty now, but I suppose it'd be fine?"

When you were told as a little creepy crawly hand thing that you should always do your best, those words tend to stick with you all throughout life. "Mmhmm! I think we both are. It's...strangely reassuring knowing that you're not alone in the world, huh?" And in a world like this, being alone was terrible.
Yet at the same time, being alone was also something Mae was used to. She gave that same grin that she had been giving this whole time, yet, this specific one...It felt earnest in nature. "A little melty's fine!" The Keramon chirped as she released Wakako from the hug and set about preparing the most vital parts of the smoresmaking process.
First, a camp fire. This was accomplished with some sticks that were within Mae's bag and a weird can thing that Mae had no idea what it actually was but it made fire.
In actuality, it was a lighter. A very reliable lighter. "Hey, could you get the crackers from my bag?" She asked of the little human as she tended to the flames. "A-And the marshmallows too. Sorry for thrusting that on you but you can start putting them on the sticks too."
There was really no order of operations here. Just...decisions. What should be done first?

There was something actually really nice about meeting someone who seemed to have a lot of the same problems as you... Not to mention just kinda having that same healthy mentality of just trying to look on the bright side of things and try your best every day. Positivity was such a necessary thing these days, and it was probably the only reason Wakako had not driven herself absolutely loony. If anything, she was just happy that she might have just made a friend. "It is! I... I don't really have that many friends, but you seem nice..." the girl smiled, even managing to let out a chuckle... her mood clearly improved.
There was a hint of excitement in her body-language as she hurried to the Keramon's bag as Mae tended to the flames, noting how silly it looked seeing this doofy-looking Digimon fiddle around with a lighter that looked so small in their large hands. "My mom never let me play with lighters... Not after I accidentally set on-fire the carpet." the girl briefly mused, managing to dig into the bag... finding a package of marshmallows! Not completely fresh it looked like, but still soft and definitely edible! With what sticks were left (a few looking charred on the ends from previous fires it seemed), Wakako began working on sticking marshmallows onto them one-at-a-time. "This reminds me honestly that I've never really gone camping before... I mean, before I got stuck in the Digital World. I guess at times it kinda is just one big camping trip, but a little more dangerous... isn't it?"

Mae looked pretty happy. For something that always had a smile on her face, at the very least! "Oh, well, uh, I don't have friends! Apparently I don't deserve them or something. Oh well. Uh, you're really nice too, though. So, that makes me happy to call you my friend!" Holy crap, who hurt this creature?
"Oh...Burnt carpet kinda smells bad. And fire's real dangerous to mess with if you're not resistant to it, so maybe your mom had some point? And yeah, the digital world's probably one big camping place for you humans. I wonder if there's anyone who actually views it like that?" She mused aloud. "Mmm...Questions for later! You can start holding them over the fire for a few seconds. That always works!"
