She could feel the churning of her stomach as she witnessed the tar like river grow closer and closer...
Suddenly, wind blows. Not coming from forward, left, back or right, but below her. Jodie, who had closed her eyes just before impact, and could swear she felt the disgusting mass of garbage and the smell in her head, now opened her eyes to see herself falling. Falling into another distasteful place...She screamed and cried, the tears flowing out as she was full of confusion, fear and the like. Who wouldn't be? A desert like ground met her body as she crashed onto the floor...Somehow, she lived....was the fall not that long? But she felt like she had been falling for much much longer....But that didn't mean her body was aching heavily right now. It was all hurting... She curled up unto a small ball, holding herself as she weeped,, not having enough time to tell her surroundings as she was sharply breathing...
And eventually she opened her eyes once more.....There was nothing.
A whole lot of nothing.
She slowly scrambled to her knees as she looked around desperately for her bearings but not a single thing was in her field of view, all but the barren ground and the dark sky. No noise but her heart beating and whimpering...
What happened? Where was she? Why did this happen? Was this some weird nightmare?
And suddenly....She felt something against her back suddenly....it made her scream, yelping out sharply as she scrambled away from the spot on all fours and turned around...It was an...egg? It was a HUGE egg, none like anything she's ever seen...an emu egg? In this place? Where was this even???
She slowly crawled and got herself up, her legs trembling and threatening to give out as she only hoped this was a nightmare and she would wake up soon....and yet she feared pinching herself because she could feel how real this was....and didn't want to confirm it.
She slowly took the egg in her arms and looked around once more...She noticed her clothes were different...she wasn't in her school clothes..it was a black overcoat with a white buttoned shirt on her...and a long and white skirt.
She decided to walk in one direction...hoping maybe she could end this crazy nightmare by finding the exit or something... She wondered if the egg was important but she took it anyways, thankfully her back pack was on her back too...she VERY slowly walked... her body still ached.

What a horrible night to be in the Dark Area, really. Mae knew there were some things to be more than wary of in here, but she was really only passing through to pick up some stuff she heard grew around this part of the world.
If it could even be called a part. At least she had her INCOGNITO MODE ready and everything! And no, incognito did not mean a holosuit. Nope, it meant a silly mask (that looked like a tengu, really) over her face and a cloak to obscure her incredibly long and lanky arms and...wire body.
Being a Keramon was tough business! But then! BUT THEN!
A human! Just up ahead! "...WOAH." It was a really lost human with some weird backpack that looked a bit like hers. Mae wondered if they required aid!

Jodie continued aimlessly for what she felt had been an eternity...and yet only had realistically been about 10 minutes, not knowing what direction was the right one. All that was accompanying her was the egg in her arms, the sound of her footsteps and nothing more. There was even no wind...Was this some sort of weird limbo...did she die when she fell..? She started to tear up at all the different possible things that could have happened and unfortunately because of her distressed self, all those thoughts became dark and upsetting.
"Why...Why... was I...?" She started to weep as she fell to her knees, hugging the egg all the harder in order to seek some sort of comfort.... She started to sink into her despair and couldn't even notice the strange tentacled being approaching her...
All that was coursing through her mind was wanting to go home, wanting this all to just be a bad dream as her motivation started to plummet in this strange wasteland that felt as if she had been abandoned all of a sudden...
"Cast your cares....unto me...And I will sustain you..."
"Eh...?" She whimpered in surprise, only to notice that nobody was around to say that...was she starting to hear things..? And then she saw it...the weird monster coming her way with a wicked smile. She was just about ready to run...if it weren't for the fact that she was scared stiff.

Hideo did not like this place. It was probably the worst place he'd been to in the entire Digital World so far.
Everything just felt dead, from the dry trees that would chip off a little every time he touched them, to the dusty ground that he felt like he was destroying every time he poked at it with a stick. He couldn't feel the sun at all, and there wasn't a single soul out here besides him and his partner.
It was just so lifeless. He thought they were the only two ones in this entire area, and they were already heading out to leave.
That was, until they heard a scream. And Hideo insisted that they go investigate - one part out of a genuine desire to help, another because he was just so bored of this place that he wanted something to do.
In just a few moments, his partner guided him over to where the voice came from, though stopped a decent distance away from them. "Looks like it's some human girl with an egg, and a Keramon...ugh, those mons don't really have a good reputation for a reason. She definitely doesn't seem to happy to see one."
"Is it doing anything bad to her?"
"Well, it's just staring at her. Menacingly. It's only a matter of time before a Keramon goes off and tries to eat you."
"We should go over and help out. Maybe it's just trying to help her, but she's scared."
The spider sighed. "Alright, but I lead. You follow."
Hideo nodded, and let her walk ahead of him, though he still had a firm grip on one of her legs. He followed along until she stopped, assuming they were close to the girl and the Keramon.
He waved with his free hand (though this simply meant he was waving a stick in the air with a closed hand), an attempt to show he wasn't here to cause trouble. "Are you alright? Did you just get here?"
His partner stayed silent, instead keeping an eye on the Keramon, and making sure she was between that digimon and Hideo.

Man...Humans really were kind of pathetic. They got all stiff and spooked whenever Mae neared one. She couldn't quite understand why this was the case. "Hi, um, are you okay? You look like you saw a ghost! ...Which is probably normal considering we're in spookyville...Ummm...Did you just get here?"
Mae was trying her hardest to seem friendly. She was well aware she didn't look that way at all as a Keramon but she still had to try. Then! More people showed up! A lil' kid and a...Hm. A spider! Aww. That's actually kind of cute. "...Yeah, what they said!" They seemed friendly.
Hopefully that would remain the case. Mae sort of...hoped both humans were friendly. The world was a very unpredictable place.

Too many things were going on for Jodie to process, her eyes figuratively spinning into swirls of confusion as the creature that approached her spoke to her, apparently in a less than threatening tone than what she expected, but regardless she was still full of a strange mixture of emotions, relief, confusion, fear, curiosity. Then another voice, she turned in the direction of the sound and noticed the rather large and pink spider with a...child behind her?! Was that child a victim..?
"Cast your anxiety onto me....my child..." She heard that same voice in her head...and as if by miracle, she could feel her emotions stabilize from the disharmony of feelings to something more controllable. Jodie didn't know who's voice that belonged to...but she was grateful as it allowed her to take a deep breath and a deep sigh of relief... She held her egg tighter and slowly turned back to the Keramon.
"I'm...." She was about to answer... but noticed their wording... 'Just got here', as if this was a regular occurrence....
"Y...yes...Where...Am I? She asked meekly, not particularly aiming the question at either one, just hoping an answer that could solve this whole issue. Maybe this whole "Isekai" Experience was just a quick trip and she could make it back home without any worries....?
"Is this....Limbo...or something..?"

They could both tell pretty quickly that this girl was very, very new to this place, even before she directly told them.
It was unfortunate that she had to show up here of all places, but it seemed like where you got dropped off really was completely random. Hideo had to count himself lucky that he was placed somewhere that had some amount of life in it. He didn't know what this place looked like, but if it looked half as dead as it felt, then she had good reason to be terrified.
It didn't help that the Keramon was calling this place "spookyville", but apart from that, it didn't seem to be causing any harm, despite what Kuki was implying. Didn't stop her from keeping a few eyes on the other rookie.
Hideo kept a smile, though when he tried to get closer, his partner blocked him off. Evidently, still keeping him away from the Keramon. "I'm not really sure what Limbo is, but I'm pretty sure that's not what this place is called. You're...not exactly on Earth any more. Everyone calls this world the 'Digital World'. This place might look spooky and all, but it's not the only place here. This world actually has all different kinds of lands, and most of them are a lot nicer than here. You just got unlucky, coming here first."
Kuki glanced at the girl. "We're the creatures that live in this world. We're Digimon. Short for Digital Monsters. We can look like a lot of different things, like angels or spiders or..." She looked back at the Keramon. "...that. That egg you got there, that's what we're born from. Some of us, like me-" She pointed to herself, pride written all over her face, "-get paired with a human, who're our partners. My guess is if you found that egg already, then it's going to be your partner. Try to take good care of it."
"You won't be stuck here, though. There's a way back to our world - a train you can take. And it can also bring you all over this world. Nicer places." He didn't mention that these trains were also digimon - this was probably a lot for her to take in at once, and he didn't want to overwhelm her any more.

"I dunno what a Limbo is either! But it sounds weird!" Mae stated, glancing to the child. Well, he seemed more knowledgable than the girl. The spider must have helped. A textbook tamer-partner duo, really. Yet the spider kept the kid away from her.
...She didn't really blame her, she'd stay away from herself too if she could. Even then, the more important thing was keeping the girl safe. That was the right thing to do, right? "I think there might be a line running through here. Maybe...Um. I don't take them. Maybe you two know?" She pointed towards Hideo and Kuki. "...I'm Mae, um, it's nice to meet you. I wanna help."
Thankfully the duo handled the brunt of the explanations. Mae was, in all honesty, a bit of a dumbass when it came to explanations.

Not exactly on Earth? What? How did that happen? All she did was fall into a dirty river and suddenly she's in some weird world of darkness and talking monsters? If it weren't for her already assuming she was dead, this would have given her a much bigger shock than what it did just now, but it was still a big shock nonetheless. She stared at the large spider and child, with a very worried expression on her face, and then turned to the tentacle monster.
"Digital...World...Like...Computers and Internet...?" She asked in disbelief, that sounded unbelievable....but how?! She landed in trash, not a computer! Then she continued listening on to the spider after the mature sounding child finished.
"Digi...mon...?...What...?" She was still clearly having a hard time to understand what they were saying. But one thing was for certain. She could take.... A Train?! That sounded so easy and....anticlimactic...But she could go back home, safely...but now came the other question...
"W-What do I do....with this...? I'm too young to become a m-mother...Can I bring it out with me..? What should I do..?" She asked, sincerely wondering how she could take care of this soon to be born child, she wasn't fond of the idea of having to leave it aside....She wondered if the kid before her also had to take care of...but wait, how could the spider be that big...and him look so young? How old was this kid? She just started to tremble slightly as her head just started to overflow with questions...and suddenly the tentacle Digimon introduced itself.
"A-Ah....J-Jodie...I'm Jodie....Could you help guide me to the station...?" She asked with a small smile, despite the appearance, this little monster was very polite.

It definitely seemed like the girl was overwhelmed by all of this. Which was to be expected - she had no idea where she was or anything about this world. "I could get into all the details, but to keep it simple, you're in another world. Yeah, we're influenced by computers and internet and whatnot, but we're still living sometimes-breathing creatures just like humans."
Were the situation less tense, Hideo would have laughed at the prospect of someone thinking that they'd be their partner's parent. He could never think of his relationship with his partner in such a way - to him, they were just close friends that were together a lot. Nothing familial about it.
He recalled that conversation he had with another tamer, while relaxing on a hill one day. "Well, we're supposed to keep them hidden from people that don't know about them. Not everyone likes the idea of talking monsters walking around with them, even if they're harmless and cute." He honestly didn't mind it; heck, he would've loved having digimon around even before he knew what they were. "If I walk around town with her, I just have her turn small and pretend to be a stuffed toy. It's pretty convincing, from what I've heard."
He nodded when Mae suggested they get Jodie to the train station. "Yeah, we know the way back to the train!...though it's gonna probably take longer to get there than it took for you to come here. It was like that when I first fell into this world." He didn't remember how long it took him to get back that time - he was too overwhelmed by everything to have kept track. "It shouldn't take more than an hour to get there...I think. We'll gladly take you there, Jodie!"
But he didn't want it to sound like he was leaving the Keramon out. "You can come with us too if you want, Mae!"
That made Kuki wince, though she did not object. Out loud. If Hideo really wanted to take that digimon with them despite her telling him to be careful, then so be it. But she wasn't going to be happy about it.

Jodie was clearly in a whole lotta shock. Not that Mae could really blame her for that. With all that had sorta just happened to her? She'd likely be in a similar state of mind were she in a similar situation. "...I've never been to the human world. But...That sounds super covert. It appeals to me." Speaks to me. "...Also, there's...no biological relation between humans and Digimon that I know of. I know humanoid Digimon exist--Very much so, but...No, that's not your biological kid. More like a...friend to raise? Nnngh..."
...
"...Think this'd be my first time going there to the station, I dunno...I know they exist, but I've never been to one. Never had the time..." Wait, were they genuinely inviting her to come with? Mae seemed to light up with a genuine happiness, vastly unlike the forced cheer that most Keramon have. "Aawwwwww yeaaaaaah!" She seemed entirely oblivious to Kuki's general disdain for her.
That, or she was trying to ignore it. Hideo was nice, though. Maybe what he just did just earned him a friend for life?

So they were in an alternate world...and judging by his wording this means there are other people, humans, here, with Digimon..partners as they put it and can travel to and from this world to the normal one and have to keep these creatures a secret....apparently they can shrink to look like plush toys? Just what exactly...She was getting a mild headache just trying to make heads or tails of this whole situation. But one thing was for certain, she had to find a way to get back home...and thankfully these guys could guide her.
"T..Thank you! I mean it....I...just hope it won't be hard to explain why I got home so late..." She sighed, somewhat bothered by the idea of having to explain...or rather figure out a way to explain the egg, the time and such.
She smiled at the strange tentacle...Digimon, and figured that it was a lot less scarier when she tried to get to know it, it seemed really amicable after all. She gave her a small pat on the head out of affection as she saw her beam up with a smile.
"I hope you too can be my friend at least." She smiled at the Keramon.
She seemed a bit more light hearted despite the confusion from this whole event, she even had started to think this all happened as part of some weird prophecy to save the world like in those anime she's seen.
"Uhm...by the way..how come you're here? Don't you have to go back for school and stuff...?" She asked sincerely, wondering if the people who were here....were they living here? What about their real lives? What then?

Slowing down with all the explanations seemed to do wonders to help the girl calm down. Good - maybe they'd have better luck keeping her calm if they gradually explained everything.
"You won't really have to worry about being late...not unless you're here for a really long time." He once again recalled that conversation he had before, regarding time alterations. "Time works differently in this world. Being in this world doesn't take up as much time as being back in our world."
"It's a seven to one ratio," Kuki mentioned, aware that her partner had probably forgotten the exact time difference, "Every seven minutes or hours or days here is only one in your world. So you got a lot more time than you think. We've been here for a few hours, but less than an hour passed in your world since we came here."
The exact time that had passed, she didn't really know how to calculate, nor did she care to. She just enjoyed being able to spend time with her partner. Just as long as his parents didn't find out, they could keep coming here.
That also didn't account for the time it'd take her to get from Shibuya station to wherever she lived, but that wasn't any of Kuki's concern.
Hideo didn't mind being asked why he was here, his persistent smile ever standing. "I'm here because I wanted to get a decent idea of everywhere in the Digital World. Even though I heard this one was kinda spooky and...not that alive, I still wanted to know...to be honest, they weren't wrong."
Also, he was told it was generally a bad idea to come to this place, because of how dangerous it supposedly was, though he'd yet to run into any trouble, out of some combination of luck and cautiousness. Best not to mention that, right after calming the girl down. "And like Kuki said, I got plenty of time to be here. I try not to spend an entire day here, so I've just been coming around to see the sights."
This elicited a small grin and a chuckle from his partner, which was enough for him to realize what he said. "Well...maybe not see, but I got an idea what this place feels like. I don't really like it."
Anyways, it seemed like they were all in agreement for where to go. And that Keramon still hadn't done anything bad - more points towards proving Kuki was wrong to be suspicious of her. "Alright, me and Kuki can lead you guys there."
The pink spider nodded, still not-too-pleased by having to escort three people there - even if that Keramon was being petted by the girl, she still didn't trust her. "Yeah, yeah. I'll get all three of you there."
She took a few steps, which Hideo wouldn't react to until the leg he was holding onto tugged twice, even though she would've been in right his line-of-sight - if he had any. He didn't expect to start moving already, but he was more than willing to follow her. "Try not to fall behind - I'm only holding his hand."
She'd still make sure she was between the Keramon and Hideo.

Admittedly? Mae didn't know a smidge about how time works in here compared to there. After all, there was a rather alien phrase to her. Esoteric in nature. Mae let out an 'Ooooh...' noise at Kuki's explanation. It sounded like she had learned something. Then Jodie pat Mae on the head, which only made that smile grow! "Yeah! I'll be your friend!" It'll be great!
Then Mae looked towards Hideo. "It's okay, I don't really like this place either--Not used to it, really...Think I'd rather be elsewhere." She did not get the joke about sight. "Oh, I won't fall behind. Promise!"
She liked to imagine she was good at following people. Given she was following Kuki and Hideo right now. She also made sure to stick close to Jodie.
Yet, in a manner that tiptoed the line of unbeknownst and...sort of known? Something was shuffling along far behind them. Something angry. Something that wished to harm. That something began to break into a run...

How convenient, she thought to herself, that time would be dilated like that...If anything this world seemed less scary and more like a really convenient way to study for a test or prepare for things... Obviously not here though, with how they explained, this place was dangerous. But thankfully her first encounter in this new world were three kind souls. She had to make sure to pay them back somehow...Maybe try and make them cupcakes?
"T-Thank you so much...I...I...really, thank you...I'll make it up to you three one day..I promise!" She spoke sincerely, smiling at them sweetly with a pure expression.
With the time explained, now she could understand how this kid could possibly come by here on his spare time, like after homework or while his parents weren't around. She still hoped this kid wouldn't be neglecting his normal life too much, it wouldn't be healthy if he started to become so negligent to his life.
And now thanks to them she would be able to go home without a hitch. She felt really thankful to them for this. With that they begun to move, Jodie looking around them as they walked, wondering if there was anything more than just deserted wasteland to see....and as far as she could see, nothing was in her sight, which made her just a bit more scared enough to hug her egg just a little tighter...
But nothing could anticipate what was lurking in the metaphorical shadows, coming straight for them. Finally she would learn why this was called the Dark Area.
