Hideo was scared stiff - he had no idea who was where, what was going on, why people were shouting, or if he could do anything other than stand. That was the first time he ever heard his partner swear, and then it was the second time she ever shouted at him. And yet, even after he asked what was going on, his partner was strangely silent, though he could definitely hear the pitter-patter of her footsteps on the dry cracked ground get closer with each passing moment, among all the other noises.
It was easy to remember that sound when for the past few hours, it was the only sound he could hear other than the wind and people's voices.
But why was she running to him, right in the middle of that fight?
She seemed to stop right in front of him. "Hideo, just stay right there. Don't move until I tell you to." She was definitely right in front of him, but she was facing away, as if she were focusing on something else. He could only assume it was whoever had been attacking them before, though she was really focusing on the source of her distress.
"Kuki, what's going on? What was making that noise?"
She didn't immediately answer him, taking a moment to keep watch on the champion that was now assaulting the rookie. "Hideo, that Keramon just turned into something even worse. It turned into a Meicoomon."
Of course, that didn't really mean anything to Hideo, who only responded with a skeptical look on his face.
"Hideo, those things are infamous for doing bad things. Remember when we went to the Primary Village? That place with all the babies? Meicoomon were banned from there for eating them. Even being near them can be enough to make you sick and go mad!"
...what? Hideo didn't know how to respond to that. Mae turned into something else? That was somehow sick with something that could be passed to others?
The other human seemed pretty intent on de-escalating the situation, giving Hideo some amount of hope that Kuki was just overreacting again. Yet, Kuki didn't back down, shouting loud enough so the others could (hopefully) hear her over the Meicoomon's gunfire; "Jodie! Just get away from there! If you don't get away soon, you're gonna be next!"
But that just sounded wrong to him. Admittedly, he hadn't spent much longer than an hour or two with her, but Mae didn't seem like someone that would become some kind of plague-spreading baby-eater.

The barrage continued, kicking up even more dust where the Hackmon had been. Was he even still alive? Mae didn't even know, nor did she care. She simply wanted it to cease to exist. To stop hurting her. And her friends. Even if Kuki was, admittedly, not the nicest from what she could see.
But at the same time she genuinely wasn't really herself. She was riding the adrenaline high of a lifetime and it was causing the rage of one hundred suns to fuel this cat. She was about to start walking closer to the cloud to maybe finish Hackmon off but something--someone patted her head.
She had forgotten about Jodie. The cat paused. "...I can't stop. Not until he's gone." The cat was talking normally--at least, she thought she was, but she was growling in actuality. Growling with a raspy, text-to-speechish intonation under her words. Kuki had a point. If she didn't get away, Jodie was in danger.
A lot of danger, considering that as the dust cleared, a -battered- but still living Hackmon slowly pulled himself to his feet, heaving for air. He seemed to be missing entire chunks of himself. Including his main arm. He said nothing, merely staring with contempt towards the party.

Jodie's expression turned solemn as the cold hearted answer was spoken by the Meicoomon. She didn't need to read minds in order to tell that she was still feeling hateful towards the Hackmon. She simply wanted this whole violent scenario to end. Kyupimon was thankful that in spite of her behavior, for now, Mae was not their enemy. She hoped it would stay that way.
"It's already over Mae, he can't hurt anyone as he is...please let him go... I don't like seeing you like this... I don't like the hurting..can we go back...to smiling and head patting?" Jodie asked as she embraced the furry Digimon before her, Kyupimon astonished that after all this she was still wanting a peaceful resolution. She wasn't sure if Mae would listen or if she would continue to let her rage consume her, but for now she obliged to her tamer's less than advisable desires.
"Please...Can you heal him..?" Jodie requested of Kyupimon, her eyes slightly swollen as she was crying, it seemed that her emotions finally caved in. She frowned slightly as she looked at Jodie...
"He was the one responsible for this, child, do you not think he should repent?" Kyupi asked telepathically to her tamer, looking worried at her, knowing in her mind that the chances of him coming right back at them after it were high.
"He...May have been... But forgive him please...I just...I just don't want anyone to continue getting hurt...please..." Jodie pleaded with somewhat distress. Kyupimon looked at Kuki who was extremely on guard before the Meicoomon, and rightfully so. With such a anger filled display, anyone would be. Even if their other allies were against this she would not disobey Jodie, mainly out of respect for her pure hearted request.
"Very well." She answered and turned to the barely alive Hackmon, a slight glare on her eyes as she looked at the weakened Hackmon, a cold and unfeeling glare.
She telepathed directly into the Hackmon's head, allowing nobody to listen to their conversation.
"You should be grateful that she is so pure hearted that she would even be willing to forgive you and ask me to heal you. However, if you chose to attack, this breath might be your last, child. Begone and repent."
She held her small hands up high and released her shining light that would envelop the target before her, the Hackmon and heal him slightly. This form did not allow much healing, but it would allow the Hackmon surely to make haste and get the hell out of dodge and maybe learn a lesson or two.

Embracing a rampaging infectious champion while it was in the middle of effectively tearing someone apart wasn't the last thing Kuki would have thought of to do at this moment, but it definitely was pretty far back there. And yet, Jodie seemed to think that was the best idea, completely disregarding her advice. The spider could only stare on blankly. "What?" was all she could muster up to say, a flat question whose answer she could only assume had something to do with stress-induced confusion.
With the brief pause in what he assumed to be gunfire, Hideo once again asked, "Kuki, what's going on? Is everyone alright?"
A sigh came from Kuki, but she finally gave him a clear answer. "Well, our Meicoomon friend here just tore the guy attacking us apart." A brief look back at her partner was enough to notice the concern written on his face. "He's not dead, if that's what you're wondering. I'm surprised that most of him is still together."
"Is he gonna be alright?"
"...dunno why you'd be so concerned about someone that just tried to kill us, but yeah, I think he'll live. I don't think he'll be moving for a while. Definitely not gonna be hurting anyone anytime soon. Not unless he can get someone to heal him."
Kuki turned back towards the others. It seemed like Jodie was intent on calming the Meicoomon, and looking at what she assumed to be the girl's partner, a Kyupimon. He was using some kind of ability - maybe something that would make the Hackmon calm down. Or maybe even to finish the guy off.
What she didn't anticipate was seeing some of the Hackmon's wounds heal up.
Her mouth (and eyes) went wide open. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" she screamed, causing Hideo to jump in surprise. "HE WAS JUST TRYING TO KILL US! WHY ARE YOU HEALING HIM, YOU DUMBASS?!"
She was too far away from either of them to actually stop the Kyupimon from healing any further, or to stop the Hackmon from attacking if it so desired (though she expected the Meicoomon to just attack it again if it tried that). And she still didn't intend to get close to that Meicoomon.
At this point, the only person she didn't consider an idiot or psychopath at this point was Hideo.
And herself, though she wasn't thinking of herself at the moment.

This was just getting more and more confusing. If she spared the Hackmon then he'd just go on to hurt others. Why couldn't Jodie see that? That's how it always was with Digimon. That's how she had viewed things. "...But why? Why should I do that if he won't do that for me...?" Furthermore, why was he being healed? She couldn't really hear what Hideo and Kuki were talking about until the latter started shouting...
...This was tiring for Mae. She felt like going to sleep...
Meanwhile, the Hackmon was...stunned. Why did the Kyupimon even bother with that? He was just about ready to die, either way. Maybe these people were actually crazy and weren't done with him yet.
...Oh god that was an actual possibility.
The Hackmon turned around and began to run away as though it had the fear of god put into it.

"Because....Because he can no longer fight right..? He could really...It wouldn't make you any better than him..." She spoke to Mae, not wanting the violence to continue any longer. However Kuki's shouting caused her to jump on the spot, squeak from worry.
Kyupimon internally sighed, expecting that sort of response from Kuki, whom so far had shown herself to be overly cautious and worrysome, all for the sake of her partner of course, so she could not blame her for the insults she threw at her. However Jodie was more or less jumpy from the loud yelling from Kuki. Was it so wrong to spare them? Understandably they were at fault but...He was clearly on the verge of death, did she mean to...Kill..? Jodie looked at Kuki with some fright in her eyes as she hugged Mae tighter, not quite noticing that she fell asleep in her arms.
Fortunately the small Hackmon managed to understand his situation and ran away as far as it could. Kyupimon sighed outwardly and turned back to look at Kuki and try and calm this overly paranoid spider.
"I ask that you please relax Kuki. The danger is over, the battle is over. There was no need to take anyone's live tonight. We are all still well." She telepathed the spider, her expression somewhat neutral but with some worry, hoping she would calm down as she was the only one who could help them get to whatever Trailmon was around to lead them out. She didn't even think about the insult she had thrown at her.
"I..I'm sorry I just...it went...far enough, it didn't need to go farther...I don't...want anyone to keep fighting and hurting....Please don't be mad..." Jodie whined with tears on her eyes, Kuki was upset, and she really wanted to ask if she really did mean to...End the digimon but was too scared to ask. Too scared to hear her say that she wanted to kill it. Too terrified of death, be it her own or anything around her.
"Everything ended. We should get going to leave this place. Staying longer would not be wise right? After we reach a safer place, we may go our separate ways." Kyupimon added, waddling back to Jodie's side who nodded in agreement. Jodie just hoped Kuki wouldn't come to hate her.
"Mae is asleep...H-Help me K..." Before she could finish asking Kuki for help, Kyupimon interjected. She figured Kuki probably wasn't in the mood to help anyone but herself and Hideo.
"Of course Jodie." She answered, Jodie flinched as she saw the small Digimon trying it's best to help lift the ball of fluff.
"...Ah..No...instead go heal Kuki.."
"Very well." Kyupimon felt like she got the idea, but despite that still knew she was the kind to be like this. She wasn't one to ever hold anything against anyone. Kyupimon hovered lightly from the ground and waddled towards Kuki silently and outstretched her hands to heal her as well. All this healing was starting to tire her out but she kept it tough. Jodie needed someone as the stronger emotional support she felt. She went right back to her side as she managed to get back up and hold Mae like a baby, letting her head rest on her shoulder.
"We should...uhm..."
"Indeed, let's make this a quick trip."

It wasn't exactly easy for Hideo to understand what was going on, but with everything quieting down (apart from his own partner), he had time to process everything and guess what was happening; they'd won, and they just let the guy attacking them - who was probably very badly hurt - run away, shortly after healing him a bit. But now Mae had become something that Kuki was even more afraid of than before.
Kuki kept going on, though it didn't seem like she was responding to Jodie's pleas to stop. "Not take anyone's life? That guy just tried to kill us! There's a big difference between killing someone who just tried to kill you, and attacking a group of people just trying to-"
"Kuki, stop it!"
Hideo just had to put his foot down, which actually was enough to make Kuki stop her rant. It was the first time he ever had to raise his voice to her, but she was going to keep alienating the others if she didn't stop; Jodie sounded like she was about to cry. "If he didn't want to fight anymore, then there isn't any reason to keep fighting."
"Hideo, if we just let him go, he's gonna attack someone else."
"You don't know that, Kuki."
A loud sigh from his partner. "Well, it's too late now. He's too far away, and I don't feel like chasing him." Though he knew why she really wasn't going to chase him down - and it wasn't just to keep him safe in case that digimon came back for more.
"Is Mae alright?" he asked. "She became something else?"
"Well, yeah. She evolved into a pretty bad digimon, even worse than the one she was before." A brief look on her partner's confused face was enough to remind her how little Hideo knew about this world and how it worked. "You know how I can go between this size and my smaller size? We call that 'evolving'. Well, she just managed to get a level above where I am right now. We usually get bigger and stronger, but she became...I'm not letting that thing near us."
"She just helped us, Kuki. She's not a bad person."
"She would've killed that Hackmon if Jodie over there didn't stop her. At least she's asleep now, but the way she changed...and that she hasn't turned back already..."
"She's not gonna hurt us."
She went silent, stopping that conversation before it could go further. She never did seem to like arguing with him, which worked pretty well when she started acting up like this, though he didn't need to be able to see her pouty face to know she wasn't in a good mood. He knew he was going to have to talk to her about not making so many assumptions about someone just because of what they are, but this wasn't really a good time.
He could hear the fluttering wings of something approaching them - and it was pretty easy to guess who it was. "You're Jodie's partner?" he asked.
"Yeah, it's another Kyupimon. Just like the one we met over in babytown."
He could hear an odd noise - one he never heard from the other Kyupimon. He didn't know what it was doing - no waves of calm running through him this time, but it did seem to get his partner to react. "Thanks, I guess. Just don't heal every one around you that looks hurt, especially if they were just trying to kill us. You already look pretty pooped."
But just as the flapping began to move away from them, Kuki spoke again. "Hey, tell your partner that we're still gonna show you guys the way to the Trailmon. Just...tell her not to get too close to us with that Meicoomon."
Was she quieter because she was starting to calm down, or did she not want to wake Mae up?
Hideo hoped the former. At least she was still willing to show them all the way back.
He then felt one of Kuki's legs brush up against his free hand, and he knew immediately to take hold of it. Just being able to hold onto something was enough to help him calm down - and made him realize just how shaky his knees were and how sweaty his palms had become. He'd been told so many times before that this world could be dangerous, but this was the first time he was ever in any real danger here. It had all been so hectic, so confusing, he didn't know what was going on or who was hurt or who was winning or why people yelled at him.
He hated it. Fighting here was even worse than the fighting between his own siblings. At least they didn't actually attack each other.
He'd just have to hope the walk back was peaceful.

It was hard to keep herself awake. Whatever it was she pulled took way too much out of her to possibly keep...lucid at this point in time. "I...Don't care...need to...stop him..."
The cat's words trailed off as her starry eyes shut. It was pretty clear that there was not more she could say, or do. She could only sleep in Jodie's arms, ears twitching with all the hubbub and arguing.
The walk back was peaceful. Almost eeriely so, given where everyone was. The land was dark. Scary. You could hear things on the wind like roars and screams and also people yelling their attack names. But strangely?
No one else came.
No one else came. The group had themselves as company for this walk. What would they do?

So in the end that was he intention after all...Kill or be killed. Was this really the sort of world she had entered..? Was she really that close to death? As murder the only way...No. She didn't want to believe it, she trembled at the thought that Kuki would so easily say something like she would kill him.. Even if you're being attacked with that intention, did that make it right to take someone's life? It doesn't.
As Kyupimon was healing Kuki she made a little comment to which she didn't have much of a reaction to, but still replied to it anyways.
"I was simply trying to prevent needless death at the request of Jodie." She replied, her voice sounding tired despite it all just being done through telepathy. She turned to Hideo and stared briefly at the child before smiling slightly and nodding.
"It is a pleasure to meet you formally now that the situation has calmed down. I am Jodie's partner." She replied to him with a soothing voice before fluttering back to Jodie and placing her little hand against her leg as she had stood up with Mae in her arms. She still trembled and seemed quiet. Kyupimon knew Jodie wasn't feeling very talkative, nor did she appreciate Kuki's harsh depiction of Mae...if she really was a savage, the nearest people around her, being, herself and Kyupimon, should have been the ones attacked first, followed by the Hackmon. But they weren't. Mae just wanted to protect them and herself... And to which, she figured Kuki simply wanted to protect herself and Hideo...This world suddenly seemed much scarier. She looked down at Kyupimon and stared with worry. Would she too have to...
"I will not do anything you do not desire my child." She replied, as if being able to read her mind.
"How'd you..."
"Just a guess." She replied with a smile which strangely enough had an effect on Jodie, allowing her to calm down, much like when she was holding the egg.
"Shiro...." Jodie smiled at her partner slightly as best she could, to which she had a surprised expression, pointing at herself.
"Me? Is that....my name?"
"Shiro...Nox. A white and pure night."
"You....flatter me...but if that is my name, then I shall accept. Shiro Nox." She smiled back sincerely...and Jodie smiled back at her.
"And they have still agreed on escorting us to the Train, once we get out of this island, we should hopefully be greeted with a different scenery..." Shiro told Jodie, to which she nodded slightly. Thankfully that was still the plan, but she still wanted to stay quiet throughout the travel towards it, still feeling a bit uneasy but with Shiro by her side not that much...
Shiro fluttered up towards Jodie's shoulder and saw Mae's head resting against it, she quickly placed a kiss on her nose after a pensive look spread across her face.
"Blessing Kiss..."
"What are you doing..?"
"Bringing her to salvation."
"Uhm...?"
"I'm trying to accelerate her healing as best I can." She replied, in a less enigmatic voice, Jodie giggling lightly as it really did seem like Shiro had been acting out the whole angelic thing.
"D-Do not laugh at my way of speaking. It's better this way." She pouted, she had to say despite having lived through a whole life previously...she was still a child in this form.
And with that they would finally continue their travels, Jodie with Mae on her and Shiro Nox fluttering and occasionally waddling beside her followed Kuki and Hideo in search for the Trailmon station which they encounter by pure luck not too far from the edge of this desolate wasteland...and with Jodie being oblivious to the fact she just entered a live being, she rests Mae on a seat and takes a seat herself.
"Des...Despite how this meeting went uhm...Thank you Hideo, Kuki. I mean it....I'll...repay your help one day...!" She told them, mainly her eyes on Hideo, still feeling like Kuki just didn't like her.
She soon would look out the window of the Trailmon and sigh...this really was another world.. "I will...protect you... no matter what. Jodie...Do not fear...for I am with you." The small Kyupimon seemed to be lost in her thoughts as she stared at Jodie.
-- END --
