Journey of Answers (Adrian/Rebecca/Leith)

Well, as far Leith and Veemon could tell, no details read aloud so far meant anything to Shoutmon. At least, he hadn't said they did yet, and they definitely didn't mean anything to the metalhead and blue demidragon themselves. "I think you wanna skip ahead a little, Shoutmon," Leith suggested, "There's gonna be a lot of filler and not much meat if I know anything about writing journals, and I do."
"Goddamnit!" Shoutmon then shouted so loud that he didn't need to use the comms to make everyone else hear it.
"Shoutmon?"
"Aw, fuck," he lamented more softly but still picked up by Leith's comm function, "Nothin'. We're fine. I just, uh... dropped something."
"Well don't scare us like that... shit."
Shoutmon huffed but let that scolding go. He had more important things to worry about. He wanted that fruit. So, he jammed one foot's claws into the rotting trunk and put all his weight on it while one both hands tried to grip it, causing him to quickly but safely slide down to the ground. Then, he pent down again to pick up the apple. "Slippery little fucker, ain't you?"

"You skipped to the end?" Shoutmon asked Leith. "You're one of THOSE kinds of humans, huh? Well I think there could be more in this journal that you missed."
"He has a point," White Wolf told Shoutmon. "I mean, you could skip ahead just a little bit. We don't have all day."
"Fine, fine, fine..." Shoutmon groaned. He would then skim read throughout this journal. It told the story of a Floramon soon to be Lilamon named Lia, who was remarkably unable to perform attacks. She had only one friend: a Digimon named Omni, who Leith knew would eventually become RedMagnamon.
The two Digimon seemed to love each other so much. There are stories of the happiest memories in Lia's life, such as her first date with Omni. It all seemed so genuine...
Then he read the ending that Leith read. He... didn't know what to say.
Back with Leith's Shoutmon, the swordsman could not believe he easy it was to trick this Digimon. He would continue to coax the Digimon with this apple until he was into position.
"Arrow of Artemis!" A sparkling ice arrow would then immediately head for the Shoutmon. If it hit, it would send him flying back into a tree, where his lower body would freeze to the tree. Basically meaning if it hit, he would be trapped.

Before getting trapped, though, Shoutmon had managed to get both his hands around the apple. His mouth salivated at the sight of it. "Yeah! Fuck you, fruit!" he taunted it as he savored his victory.
"You wanna run that by me again?" Leith instantly demanded as if a flip had been switched from calm to offended.
Shoutmon gulped. He had forgotten about the digicomm. "No, not you, dude! Like, a literal fruit! This stupid apple!" Before Leith could decide whether he believed that, Shoutmon just suggested, "Just turn off the comm thing unless you wanna hear me chowin' down through your speaker." Well, that was good enough for Leith. He killed the comm and got back in the moment.
"Guys, that's touching and all, but you still haven't explained something: who's RedMagnamon?"
While the comms were dead, Shoutmon intended to snack away; apparently, lookout duties and even the expectation of hostiles took a backseat to Shoutmon's belly. Unfortunately, just before he was about to take his bite... he got shot. "Bitch!" he cried, successfully becoming frozen to the tree. Shoutmon's only apparent grace was that he had managed to keep his grip on the apple through it and even broke the string on it. So, while frozen to the tree, Shoutmon angrily took a bite of the apple and, while chewing, yelled out, "Who's the fucker who wants a fight, huh?"

"RedMagnamon is who I used to be in my past life..." Shoutmon explained. "A month ago, Adrian and I were in Terminus seeking answers about my 'new memories.' As we were talking to them, this Grademon and Knightmon came out of nowhere. They nearly killed us, just trying to get after me."
"They're acting on orders from his previous life's final wish," Adrian adds on. "I don't know what they plan to do, but if that battle in Terminus is anything to go off of, it can't be good."
"So you wish to learn about your past life in hopes that you can avoid hurting others?" Gabumon asked.
"Yeah. Exactly. I need to know as much as I can, and studying this journal can help me do so." "Oh em gee, I cannot believe you fell for that," The culprit, a Dianamon, laughed as she, Grademon and Knightmon walked up to the trapped dragon.
"Many thanks for turning off your comm," the Grademon added. "That makes it so that your usefulness has been dried up."
"Con you remoind me wha da brain washer don't wohrk on Shoutmons again?" Knightmon asked in a very thick accent.
"Not here, you moron," Grademon scolded while pushing the Knightmon away. He would then face the Shoutmon again, taking his apple away from him and smashing it to pieces. "Hope you said your goodbyes."
All three of them would then hop away, running through the trees before running back to the rest of the group, leaving Shoutmon there without his apple.

Veemon gasped loud enough that it was noticeable, which is why Leith out of concern for his friend asked him, "Veemon?"
"I'm fine," the blue digimon stubbornly and fairly convincingly insisted.
"Come on. Be real." Veemon was non-responsive. So Leith crouched down to be on his friend's level before whispering, hopefully out of earshot, "Vee, I'm with you. You know I am. But you're way better at this stuff than I am, so you should know what you would tell me if our positions were switched." Veemon's body language suggested he did know: he'd tell Leith, were he watching someone having the same struggle as he was, to watch and learn from how they take it if talking about it was really out of the question.
So Veemon compartmentalized as best he could. "Your... your previous life. It sounds like he - you - they fought humans here. But... why? Why did... why did 'you' do that? Why did 'you' tell others to hurt people?" For both his own and Shoutmon's sake, Veemon tried to make clear he knew 'you' was a very different person.
Speaking of Shoutmon...
"Fuck you, then! Fuck you sissy-ass bitches!" Shoutmon shouted after his captors. It almost didn't matter if they could hear him; he was shouting for his own sake. His fury sure didn't help him break free from the ice, though. "Wait... duh." Since Shoutmon's upper body was still free, he summoned his mic stand and started using it like a club, trying to beat the ice into submission. "Sh-sh-shit.. That's-s-s-s c-c-cold... S-Stand S-S-Smash!"
Stand Smash: This digimon uses his microphone stand like a blunt weapon and beats the opponent with it to deal blunt force damage.

Finally, things were set into place... The three Ultimates stood in a tree, a distance away from the rest of the group where they could see them, but the group couldn't see the Ultimates.
"Got it ready?" Grademon had asked Dianamon. In response, she pulled out a strange looking box.
"Got it... although you may want to cover your ears or something, or else you're gonna fall under this thing's spell too. And we can't have that can we?" And so after covering their ears, Dianamon would then activate the device.
The device would send a peculiar signal towards the group. It would start messing up any Digimon's brain in the area, causing them to essentially be under mind control. However, due to Shoutmon's natural headphones (same went for Leith's Shoutmon) they were the only Digimon not affected.
Sadly that wasn't the case for the rest of the Digimon. Agumon and Gabumon would suddenly scream, holding their heads in pain.
"Guys! What's wrong?!" White Wolf would ask with worry. Suddenly, the two stopped screaming and looked up. All life from their eyes would be gone.
"Now, seize them. Including the red one," Dianamon would say into the device's microphone. Suddenly, Agumon would pounce on top of Adrian, and Gabumon would jump on top of White Wolf, essentially holding them into place. Would Veemon find a way to resist the signal?

"Y-y-yes! Alright! It's working!" Shoutmon excitedly cheered, "That's definitely a crack!" But then he held his microphone in front of his face and frowned, showing his true feelings. "Too bad I'm trying to crack the ice, not my mic..." Shoutmon thought, then, maybe he had another move that could help? And once he did that, he smacked himself in the head with his mic. "I'm a frickin' idiot," he scolded himself when a new idea came to him: Shoutmon held his microphone in front of his face, looked down at the ice, and shouted through it, "METAL SOUL!" Shoutmon held the "Soul" part of the scream for as long as he could, gradually lowering in pitch until it became a hardcore death growl. As sound came in one end of the microphone, fire shot out the other, engulfing the ice and (hopefully) melting it... else frustrating Shoutmon further.
"Wha- guys!" Leith desperately cried out as he tried to pry Agumon off of White Wolf. However, before he could even touch the dino digimon, Veemon pulled him from behind so hard that Leith fell onto his back. "Veem-"
"Run!" Veemon was only very weakly able to growl that before he was completely gone. Leith didn't even get a chance to move, let alone run, before Veemon managed to flip Leith over on his belly, hold his wrists to the dirt, while sitting on Leith's shoulders with his knees. Despite his smaller size, he was easily able to restrain the physically weak Leith.
"Wh-what the hell is this?" Leith shrieked, obviously frightened.
Metal Soul: This digimon bares its soul through a scream into the microphone, which causes the mic to blast a stream of fire at the enemy.

It was a rookie attack trying to face off against an ultimate attack, yet still, the Metal Soul was doing its job of melting the ice. However, it would take quite a while to have the ice completely melted enough for Shoutmon to get free Back with the rest of the group, it was not going so well. Veemon, Agumon and Gabumon had turned against the humans and were holding down Leith, Adrian and White Wolf respectively.
"Hey, what are you guys doing?!" Shoutmon asked, seemingly not affected by what was happening to the others. He was going to start fighting, but suddenly he was grabbed by Knightmon with both arms. He tried to struggle, but the giant knight was too much for him.
"HA! Well, that was totes easy!" Dianamon had laughed. "Your little friends are under our control. They don't even care about you anymore!"
"What the hell did you do with the other Shoutmon?!" Adrian growled at the Ultimates.
"Oh him? He came right to us to tell you where you are."
"Bullcrap! He wouldn't do that!"
"Oh, yes he would! He went on and on about how he was jealous of your little Veemon friend here, got tired of being the second fiddle. Guess he just hates you now."

"OK, first off," Leith grunted, finally giving up his struggle, "Fuck you." Then he paused. "Just wanna get that out of the way. Second off, seriously, fuck you." At this point he recognized a threat to his life and began to act accordingly. That was why he was able to breathe in deep to steel himself in preparation to assault Veemon. All he could move was his head, so he flung it backwards straight into Veemon's head. His only reward for that, though, was a return headbutt that definitely hurt Leith way more than Leith had hurt him. "Ah, damnit! Jesus!" From a digimon for whom headbutting was a highly damaging ability, Leith didn't have a chance. Good thing his hair was so long, else the bleeding from the back of it would have looked a lot worse. It was a surface-level wound but still extremely painful. Leith was definitely subdued now.
Still, he had the will to growl, "We've already seen you can control digimon somehow! If Shoutmon gave us away, it was under duress or influence! I know my own partner!" But his voice crack and tears betrayed him; he was much more afraid than he wanted others to see.
Meanwhile, Shoutmon kept up his attack. He knew it would take too long, but it was the only thing he'd seen that made any progress at all!

"Dats wot da Shoutmon whaz sayin' to yus," Knightmon replied with his thick accent.
"Yes, those were the words your Shoutmon friend used to describe you. I believe the exact words were 'Fuck you, sissy-ass bitches.' Real... wonderful words you humans have, huh?"
"Besides, haven't you noticed that your Shoutmon friend here hasn't been affected? Shoutmons can't get controlled by this device, their headphones block out the signal. What your Shoutmon friend told us what exactly what he thought, sweetheart."
"So what exactly do you WANT from us?" White Wolf growled as Gabumon held her down.
"They want me. They're RedMagnamon's henchmen. They want to revive him."
"And now we have you. And our work here is nearly done. But first... well, we can't let you humans live now, can we?" It took a long while, but finally the ice Shoutmon was trapped in gave way. He was finally free! However, those goons would most likely be with the rest of the group... he'd have to play it smart.

"It's about damn time!" Shoutmon grumbled as the ice finally began to melt and crack. Once it seemed weak enough, he cut his attack and instead began to simply bash the ice some more with his stand. That seemed to be enough to crack the ice more and then break it, finally liberating the red dragon. "Ah, shit. Leith! Tell me you hear me!" There was no answer. "Of course... he'd say something by now if he could."
Shoutmon once again ascended to the trees, thinking that would give him the best view and make himself the hardest to spot, an unusual show of acuity for this digimon. The sight he found was not a welcome one. "Oh, man... I need Leith's help if I'm gonna digivolve, but I can't get close!" Then, a sharp inhale. Inspiration. "Oh... but I can go the other way." Shoutmon then devolved, once to Gigimon and again to the fresh level Zurumon.
Meanwhile...
"...OK, I'll admit it: that is absolutely something he would say," Leith reluctantly acknowledged, "But you know what I think? Nggh!" The grunt was one of pain. "I think if that was true he'd be here, rubbing it in my face like he loves to do!" Leith sniffed, then, like he was holding in snot... and instantly regretted that. The young man damn near wanted to vomit from the stench he'd just inhaled. He wasn't alone either; even Veemon, though well and truly focused on his job, clearly smelled something awful. "Oh, fuck... s-stop that! Jesus!" he cried at the goons, thinking this was some form of torture. What he didn't know was that this was Zurumon's Play Foul attack.
Play Foul: This digimon breathes out a noxious gas that smells worse than a bucket full of skunk spray. In terms of actual damage, however, this attack stinks as much figuratively as it does literally.

"Let's just get this over with already," Grademon growled as he walked up towards Leith. He would pull out one of his many swords, and hold it over Leith's head.
"Wait!" Shoutmon cried out. "I'll come quietly, okay?! He and his Digimon are just bystanders in this, please don't kill them!"
"We're going to take you either way. Might as well execute some humans while we're at it." As Grademon began to raise his sword, that's when he began to smell the horrible Play Foul attack. "Oh dear god, what is that stench?!"
The others smelled it, too. Agumon and Gabumon didn't react much to it, but Adrian was making a disgusted face, and White Wolf looked like she wanted to vomit as well. Thankfully, this caused Knightmon to loosen his grip on Shoutmon just to cover his face.
"Thanks for freeing me, metal-for-brains," Shoutmon taunted the big knight as he summoned his staff. "Bellow Blaster!" His scream energy would then target all three brainwashed Digimon holding down the humans.
"KNIGHTMON, YOU IDIOT," Grademon yelled at his comrade.

It seemed Shoutmon's gambit worked... sort of. But now he had a new issue: he was a baby digimon. Of course, being a baby didn't stop him from cursing like a sailor. "Fuck! Come on, guys, break..." Unfortunately, that would be the extent of Shoutmon's help for a while. He had to focus on getting back to a combat-ready form. So he was forced to trust his friends as he digivolved to Gigimon.
The combination of the smell and the sound was enough to get Veemon off of Leith; the blue digimon couldn't cover his nose and ears at the same time, but he futilely tried. That was the opening Leith needed to elbow Veemon in the side to get him off, then get himself to his feet. Leith then tried to give both Agumon and Gabumon a good kick to free Rebecca, but after he did Veemon tackled him and knocked him down again. "Veemon! Don't do this!" Leith pleaded.
Fresh Zurumon digivolved to In Training Gigimon.

The Bellow Blaster attack didn't make Agumon or Gabumon let go of Adrian or White Wolf, but luckily Leith was there to kick them off anyways, allowing the two to make an escape.
"Glad you're still on our side, Shoutmon," Adrian tells his partner as he gets away from the scene.
"I really don't want to do this to you, guys..." Rebecca tells Agumon and Gabumon as they both try to pounce on her. Rebecca tried to fight them off with everything she could, but she was still having difficulty. Meanwhile, Shoutmon noticed that Veemon had tackled Leith to the ground. He hated what he was gonna have to do next... "Rock and Roller!" Using his mic, he would then smash Veemon right in the face. "I'm so sorry, Leith. About everything."
"No... NO! NO!" Grademon growled in response to the events happening around him. He turned to his other two comrades."WHAT'RE YOU TWO DOING STANDING THERE!? KILL THEM ALREADY!"
"Why don't my little minions digivolve for me?" Dianamon said easily into her device. Suddenly, Agumon and Gabumon began to glow and change, forming into GeoGreymon and KendoGarurumon.
"Ah fuck..." Adrian groaned.

"No... no, this can't be happening!" Gigimon could only watch in absolute horror as the melee went on while he was helpless. His only solace was that the strongest of their foes were abstaining from the fight. But how long could he count on that? Apparently, it was long enough for Gigimon to summon the energy to become Shoutmon, but he could only pray it would be still longer than that.
Veemon had a fist ready to clobber Leith, but Adrian's Shoutmon managed to save the day this time. Veemon really got clobbered so hard that he flew six inches before landing on his back. That was when Leith seized the moment to beg again, "I need me friend, Vee! We're gonna die without you!" For a moment it almost looked like Veemon was lucid. When he recovered from his momentary stun, he seemed horrified, scared... but despite hat, he still grew white wings out his back, followed soon by an elongated horn, bigger muscles, longer limbs, and... well, he had become ExVeemon. "God, no-!"
"Critical Crunch!" ExVeemon bent down and came uncomfortably close to biting Leith in half, but the young man managed to roll over first. As Leith stumbled to his feet, he almost swore he heard the dragon whimper.
"We can't keep this up!"
As Shoutmon found himself in rookie form again, he summoned his own mic, for he witnessed that the other Shoutmon's sound attack had seemed to weaken the hold on the others. "Hey! Other me!" Leith's Shoutmon called, giving away his position, "Together this time! Let's live up to our names!" Shoutmon then held his mic before his mouth and screamed, "Gutteral Growl!"
Gigimon digivolved one stage to rookie Shoutmon. ExVeemon attacked Leiith with Critical Crunch. Leith avoided ExVeemon's Critical Crunch Shoutmon used Gutteral Growl
Critical Crunch: Attacks with a powerful biting technique.
Gutteral Growl: This digimon turns on his microphone and screams into it at maximum volume to deal sonic damage against any opposing digimon who hear it.
