Leaning against a tree on the outskirts of the bayou, yellow eyes stared down at his phone. While it had no reception now, the message was still up on his phone, directed at a certain teal-haired man that he had met a few weeks prior. After prior adventures, and Junjo's obvious curiosity toward spirits, the teen had finally decided to take advice from his mercenary and reach out for assistance during one of his hunts.
Was it a bad idea? Almost definitely.
Yet, something had compelled the redhead to invite this specific person along. Was it just a random thought? Some sort of intuition that Junjo would be needed? Or was it that 'destiny' type thing that had been implied weeks prior? Perhaps, some strange 'fate' wanted the duo to make this hunt together.
Either way, Asher wasn't going to refuse to bring someone along, if his head was insisting it. Even if, given prior spirit's actions, it was likely a terrible idea to bring the inexperienced along.
Occasionally, a small 'ping' would arise from Asher's pocket, as if his D-Scanner was afraid of being forgotten. Soon. An edging feeling, a crawling under the skin. The power of whatever was within the marsh couldn't be detected. An implication that it held little strength in comparison to the monsters that the teen had already collected. Yet, there was still an itch that needed scratched. The urge to retrieve the item was eating Asher alive. Something within wanted the totem that surely hid within the land.
In an attempt at self control, he made sure that he wasn't even alone while waiting for his friend to arrive. Alongside him, a Meicoomon stood. Unlike her human, who avoided focusing on his surroundings in order to maintain sanity, she kept an eye on the land. And the sky. In the distance, she could see a Tinkermon zooming away from a Peckmon. With any luck, the duo was playing, rather than the bird seeking lunch. But, Whiskers could only attempt to pretend that there was no omen involving a spirit user known to have a pixie, and one wielding a bird.
Perhaps, fate was truly a force behind this meeting.
Would Junjo feel the call, too? More importantly, would he answer it?

Roaming around the digital world by himself was never as fun as when he was with Asher, but Junjo had been trekking through the strange terrain all the same. Ever since he discovered the truth about spirits, he had been on the hunt for more. Soaking in what he could with his sponge like brain.
There was a hunger for knowledge he wasn't going to try and explain. His solo adventures over the past few weeks had given him the courage to roam about freely, though he was still cautious to not encounter any super strong digimon if he didn't have to. After all, Sprixiemon was just a Rookie level, whimsical as it may have been!
Part way through his journey in a strange, candy themed forest, his phone buzzed. It amazed him that he was able to use it here, at least with other humans in the Digital World with him. "Asher-kun?" He muttered to himself and felt his cheeks buzzing as he read the text. It was an invite to somewhere he hadn't gone before. A new adventure!
His fingers tapped away at his screen. "I'll be there soon!" He replied before shoving his phone back in his bag.
It took sometime for him to arrive, even with the use of Sprixiemon's wings. But eventually he found himself n the edge of the swamp. "So this is it, huh?" He already felt uncomfortable as it was hotter than he would've liked. He removed his cardigan to reveal his light colored t-shirt underneath and wrapped the sweater around his waist.
"Asher?" He called out in hopes that the red head would hear his call and reveal himself. He walked a bit further in, looking around at the seemingly decayed nature left there. It looked as though this land used to be lush and beautiful long ago, but now, it might as well have been a graveyard, a reminder of the beauty that once was.
"Asher-kun?" He called out again, placing his hand above his eyes to block out the sun as he peered around the swamp.
[WC: 392/1000]
He decided to sit at the base of a large and withering tree, taking a rest for a moment. As he sat with himself and listened to the sounds of the Bayoy, something pinged in his subconscious. A feeling of connection to this place. "Odd. . ."

Whiskers should have looked into purchasing boots for this endeavor. While the cat certainly didn't enjoy wearing shoes of any sort, she had to admit that she wasn't enjoying the feeling of squishy earth in-between her bean-toes. Head lowered to stare at the digits, letting out a tiny sigh. This would be solved so easily, if she were to digivolve. But, the feline had to admit that she wasn't entirely confident in her ability to do so. Could Whiskers even digivolve? After all, she hadn't since...
Oh.
"He's here." He's here.
An emphasis on creepy vibes, Whiskers and Antylamon had chimed in simultaneously to notify their human of an incoming entity. Junjo.
Asher had already long departed a zone where he would have received Junjo's message, so he had simply been banking on the thought that the teal haired man would be available for this endeavor. It seemed that luck was on his side today! Or, maybe it really was fate. If fates were really a thing, that was.
Pushing away from the tree that he had been resting against, the redhead turned, and began walking. Whiskers followed at his side, curiously. While she could easily guide him toward the scent of a new human in the bog, it seemed that he had his own compass. Was this the synchronization of spirits and humans, properly displayed? As the feline couldn't hear Antylamon's announcement of Junjo's appearance, she could only be left wondering how Asher knew where he was heading. Digimon did seem to hold quite the heightened senses in comparison to humans, didn't they?
Granted, not even Asher realized that this was a merging between himself and his demons.
But, Junjo was a fairly easy being to spot, once they got closer. One hand lifted from his pocket, to raise it in a waive. "Junjun!" the teen announced, to catch the other young man's attention. While it didn't seem that Asher had heard his friend's call initially, surely Junjo would hear Asher, now that they should be able to see each other!

The heat was really getting to Junjo, but luckily he managed to bring a lot of water along with him on this little journey of his. He hardly ever thought to do this when he first starting traveling the digital world, but being without Asher's expertise and wisdom left him to be a bit smarter about things every time he entered this realm.
He slipped the water from his bag and chugged half of the bottle. Crystal clear liquid running into his mouth and satisfying him for now. He practically squeezed the life out of it when he heard Asher calling him. How terrible the angle must've been that Asher was getting to see now!
"O-oh! Asher-kun!" He put the water back in his back haphazardly and hopped up, dusting himself off and waltzing over towards the waving red head. He waved as he approached, closing the distance quickly enough. He wanted to hug Asher, but that would be a bit awkward, wouldn't it?
He looked down at the orange thing next to him and blinked. Had they met before? "There's a digimon following you. Did you know that Asher-kun?" What was he saying?! Of course Asher knew that! Asher knew everything in Jun's mind! His cheeks turned a little red as he thought about it now.

If only Asher followed his own advice. The redhead never actually brought a waterbottle or... much of anything when he ventured into the Digital World! It seemed that the teen was better at giving advice, than to actually follow it! That, and Asher didn't like to carry bags of any sort. Maybe it was 'manliness' or just laziness, but he didn't care much for them!
But, let's face it. It was mostly laziness and an inability to keep track of anything, ever.
Of course, he didn't mean to startle his friend! A small chuckle escaped from his throat, only to be cut short with the acknowledgement of a Digimon following him. Cue actor mode! Eyes slowly lowered to look at Whiskers, visibly (and a little over-dramatically) recoiling at the sight. "Oh my God!" He shouted, feigning panic, "I'm being stalked by a weird cat... thing!"
Remaining frozen in his recoiled stance, the redhead waited for some sort of response from the feline. Instead, she slowly blinked in the direction of her human, with a less-than-enthused expression. Giving a dramatic pause, the cat finally responded with, "Mew are the most ridiculous hyooman I've evfur had the dispurrleasure of working with." Granted, Junjo's naivety was pretty close to ridiculous too! But, Asher had filled her in on his newbie status, so she was going to let it slide for now! The Meicoomon turned her attention to the teal haired man, before stating, "I'm Whiskers. I live with Ashpurr."
Finally regaining his usual composure, Asher ran a hand through his red hair to draw it out from under his glasses. "She says she keeps me safe, or something. She's alright."
"I mostly keep him safe from being stupid," the cat added, bluntly. Humans were so dumb sometimes.
Yellow eyes rolled in response to the feline, before the actor spoke up. "Anyway. My Digivice is going crazy about something in this place. So I thought it'd be fun to invite you to help hunt it down with me." Reaching out, the redhead rested his hand on Junjo's shoulder, while flashing a smile. "What do you think?"

Junjo stared in shock for a second as Asher acted, albeit not all that wonderfully, as though he hadn't known the cat digi was there the entire flippin' time! He chuckled nervously as the "scene" played out.
"R-right. Um, Hello Whiskers." He was sure that a name like whiskers wasn't a legitimate Digimon name, but he wasn't going to get into that now.
He watched Asher's fingers comb through his hair. "How forward." He laughed before the topic was shifted.
He looked down at his digivice and nodded. "Mine too." He said before Asher's hand rested on his shoulder. He looked up and turned a deep red. "Yes. Okay. Let's investigate!"

"Hello," Whiskers commented, after a moment. As if sensing the questionability of her name, the cat added, "Whiskers is my hyooman-world pet name. If you'd purrfur, mew can call me Lottie." That seemed more normal, right? Not that many people in Whisker's life called her by that name anymore! But, she certainly wouldn't mind an old name resurfacing!
Meanwhile, Asher was completely ignoring the scarlet shade that his friend was turning! "Great!" Grinning, the redhead gave a gentle pull at Junjo's shoulder, before turning to walk in a direction that was making the digivice light up and ping at a much faster rate. "It must be pretty important if both of our digivices are picking it up, right?"
After all, when he had gone to collect Kinkakumon, Elliot and Isaac hadn't picked up a signal for it! Maybe, this was much bigger than just a totem. Or, maybe, it was something that needed to be shared? Could totems be shared?
Or stolen?
That was a scary thought.
Continuing into the swamp, Asher made sure to keep close to Junjo in the case that the bog swallowed one of them. It may have been a good thing! Considering, a ways in, bubbles began to surface from a muddy puddle. Soon, a strange, fishy monster rose from the depths. "What're you humans doin' in this place?" The Coelamon started, voice rasping from its time spent in solitude. "Nobody tell you this place doesn't welcome your kind?"
Before anyone -- including Whiskers -- could try to answer, the Ancient Fish continued on. "This area will eat you alive, if you don't leave soon. It has a way o' doin' that. Nobody leaves once they enter this far." Blue eyes seemed to dull as it spoke, tilting its body a bit to the side. "There's a tale that the bog, itself, is guardin' some ancient warriors from times past. It don't let anyone come in here to take them away."
Of course, the term that was used about warriors had caught Asher's interest. "What kind of warriors?" Asher managed to get a word in, only to receive a glare from the fish.
"I may be old, but I ain't that old!" Coelamon hissed. Who would dare accuse him of being so ancient to walk among these dead folk?! "They died in this land. Wiped out half the place in the process. And anyone in it. Don't know what they were doin'. But it cursed this swamp."
And, another warning. "Means you should get out now."

Junjo didn't much like the variant of Lottie any better. It still felt stiff and weird to him to call a Digimon by a Human name. Not that he wouldn't if she asked, but it was so bizarre for him to think about. After all Digimon were WAY cooler than Humans anyway!
He followed along behind Asher, as to be expected, letting the redhead guide his way through the grey and drudged up swamp land. The trees were brittle and dull, sparsely scattered throughout. And occasionally a big bubble would pop on the surface of the water that made Jun crawl in his skin.
"Must be." He mentioned as he felt something pulling him. He felt like he did before. Like when he found Sprixiemon's totem. Energy alive inside of him. Except this time he wasn't being lured by shiny fairy lights.
Suddenly a voice that scratched the ears made itself known. A Coelamon. Jun had seen one of these before actually, albeit that one was slightly different colors and much more friendly as Beach Digimon tended to be.
"Ancient warriors?" Junjo mumbled. That had to be Spirits. What else could it be. He listened to the Digimon's cryptic warning and folded his arms into his chest.
He puffed out his cheeks. He didn't like being threatened, especially now that he was a bonafied adventurer who only admitted he was scared 50% of the usual time. And he really didn't like the creature taking any sort of tone with his red-headed friend!
"Well, regardless of the legends, its up to us to decide whether we go through with it or not. Not you." He decided, nodding his head to Asher as if to say 'I got this'. He didn't really have anything other than a fierce need to protect his friend, that and a sadness that came with looking at the swamp for too long. Seeing that it had been ruined in such a way really yanked his heart in every possible direction.

It was strange to think that humans struggled to process that Digimon could have normal names like everyone else. But! Whiskers didn't really care what she was called at this point. As long as it wasn't Mister. She at least identified enough as a female that she wanted to keep things that way.
Whiskers seemed to jump every time that Junjo did, strongly disliking the popping of mysterious bubbles. Ugh. She hated swamps. They were wet! And slimy! And gross! And some of these bubbles were practically her height! What if one popped in her face?!
Not that this was her largest concern, when the Coelamon was just so creepy! If it had lips, it would clearly be snarling at Junjo. Instead, it just gave out a hiss of anger. "Are you really that dense?" The fish monster rose further from the ground, as if to show its full size. Which, being a champion, wasn't all that intimidating in size. Its full appearance, however?
As mud slid from its body, scales were obviously missing from the creature's body. Scars cut deep enough into its coding that it was clearly permanent, and portions of the plating on its back and flesh were discolored. Feet never became visible, but the way his body oozed in the mud, one had to wonder if they were truly present, or if he was somehow merged with the swamp itself.
Not wanting to step in, after seeing Junjo attempting to handle the situation himself, Asher let the teal haired man respond for himself. Seeing Junjun standing up for them was a rare sight, so he certainly didn't want to discourage the scenario! Though, if the Coelamon felt it would follow through with its next statement, Asher would make sure that Junjo wasn't alone.
Despite being at its full height, the Ancient Fish didn't move forward to try to further its intimidation -- almost as if it was bound to its current location in the swamp. Maybe, the group was on too solid of ground for its sludgy feet to traverse. But it made sure that the threat was known. "I live here. It is my choice," the fish boomed. "Git out before I make you."

Junjo just couldn't believe the nerve of this fish-mon! So the guy lived there? Well he should've said something sooner! And even still:
"That doesn't give you the right to be so rude! Especially when you didn't mention that prior to trying to warn us away!" He huffed, thrusting closed fists down at his sides as he leaned forward.
"We were drawn to this swamp, and it can't be a coincidence. If you'll just let us look around for a bit, we promise not to wreck anything. But your threats are falling on deaf ears bub!" He insisted, standing up straight again and crossing his arms into his chest. He really didn't want to deal with this, especially if the creature decided to attack, but he wanted to look good for Asher, of course.

"Gives me every right, human," the Digimon gurgled. But, neither of the young men were backing down. And, with its strange binding to its current spot, could the 'mon really do much?
It seemed that he was, at least for the moment, reluctant to resort to violence. Most likely due to whatever restrictions were in place! "Touch anything, and you'll regret it," it warned, eyes lowering to look at the small feline in the group. "In my day, Digimon were better than tying themselves to humans," the fish hissed.
To this, Whiskers tilted her head. "Cats eat fish, mew know." If the Coelamon didn't know that the Meicoomon resorted to feline instinct on a near constant basis, now it did! And, everyone knew that cats liked fish, and something titled "Ancient Fish" sure seemed like it should fit the bill!
After another moment, the old fish creature let out an annoyed grunt, before sinking into the swamp again. Surely, he didn't intend for this to be the end of their little 'talk', right? There had to be more!
Except, after a couple bubbles popped on the surface of the muddy ground, it seemed that the monster was completely gone.
In its place? An uneasy feeling of someone watching them.
"That was pretty good," Asher chimed, once the fish was clearly gone. "It was like you weren't afraid of anything," he grinned, patting Junjo on the shoulder. "And, now we can actually find some things!" Time to get to the point of this trip, after all!
And, time for some more rapid beeping. Both young men would suddenly hear their digivices ping, trying to alert them to focus on their goal here! If either of them looked to their Digivice (which at least Asher would surely be doing), they would see a little arrow appear on the screen, pointing further into the swamp.
As long as Junjo would begin his trek into the direction that was guided, Asher and Whiskers would easily follow. Well, honestly, Asher would probably go that way anyway, but he didn't want to seem rude by leading too much!
Especially when the direction looked awfully ominous. A thick fog loomed over the swamp. The further they'd walk, it seemed the more of a marsh the area became, coming halfway up their shins, and surely destroying whatever shoes either teen wore. At this point, Whiskers would make a point to get tucked into Asher's arms, so that she didn't drown in the mucky liquid. Still, that feeling of being watched would only intensify, and soon, it would seem like the fog was thick enough to cut with a knife.
Luckily, the D-Tectors would keep doing their job wonderfully.
If they had gotten this far into the swamp without any issue, though, perhaps paranoia would be setting in. Was it the thick mist that caused it? The dank, earthy smells that floated through the air? That unsettling silence, outside of the occasional pop of a bubble in the distance?
Was it their minds playing tricks on them, when they heard a splash behind them?
Footsteps? Or just more eerie sounds?
"We should be getting close," the redhead would state, trying to break the discomforting ambiance with speech.
While Asher was keeping close to Junjo to avoid losing him, he continued trudging forward, only willing to stop if the teal-haired male did also. Was that another splash?
Would Junjo turn around to try to spot anything in the fog? Or was he going to continue forward blindly, like his redheaded friend?

Success! That mean old fish had retreated for now, allowing the tamers and their kitty-cat friend to move forward in the swamp. Asher had even honored Junjo with a firm pat on his shoulder. The teal haired tamer straightened up and nodded his head rather sternly. He wanted to show Asher that he was tougher than he looked!
They continued through the marsh, the fog thickening and the waters seeming to rise as they trudged through the icky swamp. "Ghhh. . ." Junjo complained as mud got into his shoes. He really wasn't cut out for all of this dirt and whatever else might be in the water.
His digivice was still pinging, as it seemed Asher's was as well. He glanced behind him as he heard a splash. Initially he thought it must've just been that Coelamon trying to scare them off. He shrugged off the noise and continued following Asher's bright red head of hair like a beacon in the darkness.
But after a moment, there it was again. A splashing noise directly behind them. "Wh-what was that?" He finally turned around, hoping that nothing scary was waiting for him. If it was, well he would just have to give up this whole macho guy charade and hide behind his favorite Ginger.

Sure, the 'old fish man' had retreated, but what else was waiting for them in the swamp? Hopefully, they weren't going to find out! "Yeah, I think the mud is inside my shoes now," the redhead responded to Junjo's groan. At least, he would hope that it was due to the disgusting experience and not due to something more severe! "I think I'm going to have to throw them away before I even get inside my house." What a shame. He had kind of liked these shoes!
At least Asher's hair apparently could play the part of Rudolph in this scene. Though, surely what was noticeable for another human in the fog, would be noticeable to anyone else, also.
If only they had kept walking.
Hearing Junjo speak, and seem to stop, Asher shifted to look over his shoulder, with Whiskers already beginning to climb up his arm to peek over as well. "It's probably just creepy ambiance or something." It had better be, at least. It wasn't like either of them could see much of anything in this fog! It was a wonder that Asher could even tell where Junjo was standing at this point!
The only thing the two teens would see was just some sort of slimy, green bush, giving an occasional wiggle near Junjo's feet as if there was a current within the swamp.
What would be felt however, might make Junjo wish that he had just been hiding behind Asher the whole time! Unless the teal haired man had begun quickly moving again, he would surely feel something sticky working its way up his left shoe. Nothing small, either! Anyone that looked down would surely see a large, sludgy hand begin to lift from the swamp, reaching up to try to grasp onto the poor spirit user's leg! Surely, if Junjo didn't react, he would be swept off his feet and dragged into the disgusting mud in no time!
But, at least someone was already reacting! A gunshot would pierce through the fog, while Asher let out a gasp from a sudden shift in the weight that he was holding. Where a Meicoomon had once been held easily, a nun in a cat-hat was now draped across his shoulder, gun pointed at the hand that was trying to take hold of Junjo. "Move! Meow!"
While the weapon had clearly struck the hand that wanted to collect the spirit user, it hadn't fully stopped it! A deep groan gurgled from within the bubbling swamp, still trying to reach out for the leg it so dearly wanted to take hold of.
It didn't look like it was just a scare tactic from a creepy old fishmon. But it hadn't actually hurt anyone yet! Was it a better time for fight? Or flight? The digivices were still pinging! Would Junjo want to try to outrun the monster in the swamp, or 'take care' of it first?

At first Junjo didn't see anything out of the ordinary, just a bush that wiggled a bit with the current. But then as he stood there he felt something slithering along his foot. He screamed as the grip tightened.
"Ahhhh!" So much for being brave. A loud shot echoed through the air, and there in the place of the cute kitty, was a new being, still cat themed but much different looking.
She didn't have to tell Junjo to move twice. He bolted from his spot in the marsh towards Asher forfeiting any facade that he was indeed a warrior of valor and not cowardice in this moment.
"Wh-w-what the hell was that?!" He muttered, peering over Asher's shoulder and moving with the redhead if he needed to.

The bush would shuffle with the creature moving to try to continue grabbing at Junjo. As it did, the bush would rise, acting like a hat on top of the leaf that covered the monster's head. "That's bigger than mewsual," Whiskers uttered, as a large Frogmon began to lift from the swampy depths. How it ever would have fit beneath the liquid that only came halfway up either teen's shins would be beyond them.
The amphibian was easily the same height at Junjo. Except, a lot wider. And froggier.
Yellow skin could be seen as muck dripped off of its flesh. Leaf-like wheels began to whir to life on the creature's back, buzzing while slime from the bog flew off of them. Still, it didn't speak. When mouth opened, it only gave off a strange ribbit-esque gurgle. Perhaps, it had been in the mud for so long that the thick liquid was trapped in its throat, to create such a terrible sound!
"Well, that sounds disgusting," Asher mumbled, lowering the Sistermon from his shoulder, and turning to properly face the frog. And to shield Junjo, it seemed!
And, as far as Junjo's question? Luckily, with a knowledgeable companion like Whiskers, Asher didn't even need to scan the thing with his digivice! "It's a Frogmon. Normeowly, they're champion level, and a lot smaller!" 'Frogmon' didn't sound like a very creative name for a frog, to be blunt. But, Asher wasn't going to argue with the thing! Couldn't frogs eat some pretty big bugs?
Could this one eat them?
Another gunshot was fired, but the frog only gurgled again, leaning forward. "It's like he doesn't care," the cat-girl mumbled, tilting her head and getting a better aim, "Exile!" Now, a much larger blast came from the gun, in the form of a ray, rather than a bullet.
And, the frog staggered. But, after only a second, it was already advancing on them. Rapidly.
"I don't think he's a champion," the feline stated, turning on her heel and shoving Asher's chest. "Go, go! Nyat a champion!"
"But I'm able to reach Ulti--"
"Junjo and I can't!"
Right. That would put both of them in danger, wouldn't it? Giving way to Whisker's pushing, Asher reached to grab Junjo's hand, and began pulling. "We need to find the spirit," he mumbled, trying to hurry the teal haired boy along with him.
If Junjo waited any longer, he'd see the frog's long tongue escape, to lick its mouth.
If he waited any longer, he would be dinner.
