... Hmm. Their garden wasn't doing quite as well as they hoped it would be doing.
In the midst of the dank marsh, a masked figure in a beautiful floral robe was tending to what appeared to be fields of mushrooms growing within the murky soil... her toils towards making sure they had plenty of nutrients to grow off of ever difficult.
She adored mushrooms... It was fascinating how they could grow off nearly anything organic. Not even the deceased bothers the humble cap, for that is just a bed for potential prosperity. Of course, she was not merely growing them for no purpose... these particular varieties made for excellent ingredients for brews from which she could pawn off to the locals.
Oh... How her life has become so drab. She missed the days where she could be on the road, playfully teasing and tormenting those that seemed fun to her. But alas, she was sentenced back to this form and must now regain her strength. An audacious task, but a do-able one with time.
For now, the Masked Witch idled in her gardening... humming a tune as her twin tails peeked from her dress.

There was a second digimon in the area who liked mushrooms a lot less than Tamamizu, however. It wasn't a matter of any emotional response to mushrooms, of course; mushrooms had never hurt her. This digimon's only problem with mushrooms was that they tasted absolutely dreadful! Frankly, every plant in this Yggdrasilforsaken swamp tasted awful. That meant there wasn't really a worse possible place for her to live. What else was she supposed to do, though? Her slow little body wasn't exactly meant for travelling long-distance. Keep it together, Cathy. Remember the plan:
1) Eat as much as possible
2) Digivolve into something that can fly
3) Profit
Too bad the only meal present at the moment were some absolutely disgusting little mushrooms. They were nutritious, sure, and almost certainly safe if they were being cultivated by some Renamon, but still... yuk. Oh, well. Dinner time. From the tree she was perched in, then Cathy shot string out of her, er, rear that stuck fast to her branch. Then, she began to slowly lower herself by letting out more of the thread until she was just over the mushroom. Sneaky, sneaky. Sorry, lady. A digimon's gotta eat, and a caterpillar digimon's gotta eat a lot. No wonder Tamamizu's garden wasn't doing so well. It probably didn't help that there were hungry Wormmon hoping to chow down on her crop, and Cathy was one of them.

The process of growing mushrooms might appear simple enough, but it took plenty of skill to make sure they all had the proper conditions to grow... You had to make sure they had moisture and materials to decompose, but fortunately light was not a thing you would need. If anything, light and heat was generally a problem since it could dry things up.
You also had to avoid pests.
The Renamon X's eyes behind the mask glared as she spotted one particular mushroom's cap doing very poorly... it clearly having been nibbled on by some marshland creature, even the stalk and roots having been either damaged or uprooted. No good. No good at all! How was her yield going to properly grow if they keep on being tampered with? She needed particular sized DigiShrooms for her alchemy. The fox's humming paused as she finished covering up the soil of one particular mushroom... her ears twitching.
"... Hmm. No good. Some critter it seems has been eating my poor wittle mushwooms." she solemnly spoke... to no one in particular, and though her back was turned from where the one Wormmon was busy eating... her tails were flicking about somewhat excitably. "... Hmm. Maybe I should consider growing something else? Perhaps some tomatoes? Or maybe eggplant?"
... She wasn't quite as oblivious as perhaps she was letting on now. But its fun to ramble.

Shoot. Cathy had competition? That was no good! Besides there being less to eat, it also meant that this gardener was aware of her pest problem already. As the Renamon spoke, the Wormmon froze mid-bite, trying hard not to make a single sound. Come on lady. Move on. I only ordered dinner for one, she silently demanded of the gardener. The caterpillar digimon didn't think that was going to happen soon, though, so she tried to take another approach. I guess I'm getting takeout. Cathy began to grab at the mushroom with two of her stubby little claws, and when she thought the had a good grip she began attempting to pull it out and climb back up the thread with her other limbs. If it worked, she would get herself all the way back in the tree she had originally dropped from, and if it didn't... well, it wouldn't have been the first time she had to defend her meal.

When it came how Tamamizu saw the world, it operated primarily on a give and take style system... You take what you have earned, give what you feels others deserve. Now... She might have been a rather nasty woman in the past, she WAS however a reasonable one... At least for those willing to negotiate. She loved chatting with people after all.
Thieves however were a rather... touchy subject for her. After all, she might have been willing to offer some of her crop to those interested if they just asked. Alas, some folk seemed to think it was okay to merely take what was not theirs.
How naughty.
The Renamon X briefly flexed her claws... her ears perched up, surveying their surroundings. Honestly, little Cathy here might have gotten away if she just retreated without risking for the shroom. Unfortunately, that tiny, insignificant sound of soil being disturbed was enough to give away their position.
Sigh... I suppose I will need to relocate this patch to somewhere more hidden... Or perhaps invest in some chain-link fencing? Tamamizu mused idly to herself, not paying much mind overall to the Wormmon's presence initially... at least before whipping around as several sharp leaves materialized by her. "Diamond Storm!" the vixen yelled as she sent forth a barrage of knife-like leaves forward, aimed at the thread that held the grub attached to the tree... and attempt to cut it cleanly!
Tamamizu has used Diamond Storm to attack the thread holding Cathy attached to the tree.

"Gyah!" Cathy knew she messed up as soon as the crunch of the mushroom being plucked when the Renamon's ears perked up. For that reason, she started trying to forget silence and instead climb fast as she could. She got surprisingly more time than she had expected, in fact, since the Renamon wanted to make a performance out of it, but Cathy was still too slow to make it back up that climb. The only real thing to take a little solace in was that she was also too slow to get in the path of the attack, meaning the only thing that got sliced was that thread.
Still, it still hurt. The Wormmon didn't have the reflexes to shoot another one and get it stuck before she plummeted to the ground like a stone. "Ow..." the poor caterpillar whined while still clinging to that mushroom for dear life. "That hurt!" Cathy looked almost like she wanted to cry. She flashed Tamamizu the best puppy-dog eyes that a caterpillar could pull off... just before declaring, "String Snare!" After she did, she raised her rear like a scorpion and shot out a new string, only this one was aimed right for the Renamon. The sticky thread she tried to drench the gardener in was her last-ditch effort to make an escape, though she had to wait and see whether it worked before attempting to flee. Tamamizu's Diamond Storm cut Cathy's thread and made her fall.
Cathy attacked Tamamizu with String Snare.

It actually was not a easy task to actually get Tamamizu mad... The vixen held an oddly perpertual glee and ethusiasm towards almost everything and everyone, yet there were certain berserk buttons that no one like to be pressed. Cathy was coming close to actually pressing one of those with her attempts at thievery, the only saving graces being that it was fairly inconsequential a theft and that they were cute as a button.
However... They had to be taught a lesson. A potentially painful one.
Tamamizu's own history with fighting was large enough to fill a very large book... but her current lack of power meant that the gap between her and others was less stark (or worse, more stark in favor of the opposition). She was not exactly fearing for her life right now (after all, this little larvae was not exactly winning awards for intimidation anytime soon), but she was a tad bit too slow for her own liking reflex-wise... No time to dodge the barrage of silk that proceeded to cover part of her, gluing her to the ground.
Despite this... the fox giggled girlishly. Oh, wasn't this getting exciting? The fox stared at the grub beneath that face-obscuring mask, but she was amused. "Playing hard to get, hmm ~ ? I wonder how fast those tiny legs can run, little thief?" the Renamon X playfully spoke... though she was doing her best trying to break out of the silk that was binding her.
Tamamizu was hit by String Snare and immobilized, she working on breaking out.

That tone of voice really, really bugged Cathy. This fox seemed to have her pegged from the very start, and it frightened her. Come on! All she wanted was to not starve! So what if her last meal was a mere half hour prior? Caterpillars have big appetites! Now it seemed she had walked into something from which she could not run away. Tamamizu had a point: Cathy was not a fast runner, only a fast climber. She suspected this fox would have her in her claws before the little worm could take three steps in any direction. Forget the mushrooms now! She just wanted to escape alive! The only way to do that, though, was clearly to incapacitate the gardener.
"Leave me alone! I wasn't gonna hurt you!" the little caterpillar tried to demand. Instead of turning and fleeing like Tamamizu probably expected, though, she instead followed up on her last attack with another. "But now I have to! Toxic String!" Cathy sounded truly remorseful as she declared her attack, but apparently she wasn't remorseful enough to call it off. More string shot out of her, but this time it was a more pink/purple hue as opposed to the white of the string from earlier. That was because this variant was covered in a toxin instead of the chemical that made it sticky.
Cathy attacked Tamamizu with Toxic String.

Oooh, the little caterpillar was going to actually fight now? How exciting! When was the last time she got into a real fight? Alas, a shame that it was not something a bit grander... Rookie levels fighting against one another did not share the same level of drama and intensity as higher levels. Life was a show after all, and she adored putting on a performance!
The Renamon X's form appeared to burst to flames briefly... managing to burn away the leftover silk to free herself, her kimono now completely gone and revealing the vixen's bestial form as they took to all fours. Not a second to waste! Even a little thing such as this Wormmon could pose a threat after all!
Unlike little Cathy here, Tamamizu was a bit quicker on her feet... enough to assist her in sidestepping out of the way of the noxious webbing as they skidded across some of the soil of their makeshift battleground. "Perfect! Fight back! Show me your will to live!" the beast Digimon spoke gleefully, her eyes obscured by the mask gleaming with excitement as she dashed forward to the larval Digimon. "Soul Scar!" they called out... aiming an open palm strike on Cathy. If successful, she'd sink her claws into them... before YANKing something incorporeal from the bug.
Tamamizu breaks out of the leftover silk from String Snare, evading Toxic String. She is retaliating with Soul Scar.

Problem! Problem! That's a problem! Right about then, Cathy, though, would be the perfect time to digivolve into something with wings and fly away. If only there was even time to try! That crazed bwitch was blowing a little pest control problem way out of proportion! Oh, this wasn't how this was supposed to go at all! Why couldn't Cathy have digivolved into a Patamon or DemiDevimon or just any rookie digimon with wings?
The Wormmon didn't think she could get out of the way in time, but at the same time that ability looked like an unpleasant one to get touched by! At least she only had a split-second to panic before she would get creamed. In that moment of panic, she resorted to her string again. This time she shot the hardening kind, only instead of at Tamamizu she completely covered herself in it. This created a hard shell just a moment before actual impact. Too bad for Tamamizu, the shape of this hasty cocoon was covered in sharp little needles that had hardened by the time it contact seemed almost inevitable. Those were gonna sting. More importantly for the caterpillar, though, she would be safe. Too bad her shelter would distintegrate on contact, but at least she was spared from that nasty-looking move. Tamamizu defended herself with Chrysalspike.
Chrysalspike: This digimon hastily envelops herself in a cocoon using material she spits out, which is covered in small needles as an extra defense. This cocoon nullifies one ability that targets Wormmon and, if the target touches it, deals a little damage. The cocoon lasts one post before distintegrating. Cooldown: 3 posts.
The duration of Chrysalspike ends this turn. String Snare must cool down: 1 post remaining.

Tamamizu's approach towards fighting was style over substance... Every little bit of movement she made was like a dance to her, and even her attacks were merely part of a performance. Everyone was an actor in the stage of life. Even battle was just a performance, and both actors were doing their best to outperform the other.
Her paw was painfully stabbed by the surface of the defensive cocoon, pricks of digital blood trickling off the Renamon X's paw as it collided with the barrier. It did not dissuade Tamamizu though... While the pain earned a small grunt from the Rookie level, but soon devolved to they letting out a cheery giggle... their muzzle able to briefly be seen under the mask as a wide, maniacal grin was plastered on her face.
Pain was a welcome thing... It was a sign of life. One who cannot feel pain is not truly alive. In a way, inflicting pain was a blessing in disguise... A gift she was all too eager to share!
She did not hesitate backing off from the Wormmon... If one attack didn't work, try again! She aimed her other paw... becoming wreathed in vibrant, multi-colored flames that intensified as they crackled on her finger tips. It drained at her essence, but her attack's power grew from the tinder added! "Power Paw!" she yelled... slamming the flaming paw directly at the cocoon once more.
Tamamizu took recoil damage from Chrysalspike. She has burned away some of her health to empower a Power Paw aimed at Cathy once more+

It worked! It worked! I can't believe it worked! I definitely felt that on the outside of the shell, and it sounded painful, but it didn't touch me! I'm fine! It worked, it worked, it worked! Cathy sure was happy about her panicked little escape working out better than she had expected it to. The Wormmon silently cheered inside of her impenetrable fortress. This is perfect! I'll just wait inside of here until she gives up. Then when she leaves, I'll- The caterpillar didn't get to finish that happy thought because it was interrupted by that shell she was so proud of quickly crumbling to dust. It seemed it was only made to withstand one impact, and instead of standing firm and harming the attacker, this time it just yielded like a polite driver.
The Wormmon was hit hard by the bigger, meaner fox digimon's attack directly, and boy did it hurt. Heck, forget about the attack! If that didn't do the job, the distance she flew to slam right into a stubborn tree trunk sure did. The caterpillar was momentarily dazed and, for a moment, it seemed she was down for the count. There was no playing possum this time; this was sincere agony just from the one attack. However, the will to survive is a powerful thing; the pitiful worm managed to get her many feet under her and stay in the battle... though she just about wanted to cry, too. Heck, tears were already forming in the corners of her eyes. "J-Just let me leave!" she sobbed before becoming a U shape so she could shoot more thread. "Toxic String!" Again, the sickly purple string launched itself at this crazy, homicidal fox. It only made sense she would try ranged attacks to keep Tamamizu at bay if letter her get close punished her like that.
Chrysalspike crumbled away, and Cathy was hit into a tree by the powered up Power Paw.

Rookie levels might be among the bottom of the food chain regarding Digimon that could actually fight, but just because they were not as strong as even Champion levels did not mean that battle between Rookies couldn't be violent... and unfortunately for Cathy, Tamamizu was more than happy to retaliate with violence.
The vixen seemed to tilt her masked face at the bug's pleas for mercy slightly sideways as they watched them tumble helplessly... a mocking expression despite the majority of their face being obscured. "Leave? Oh dearie, I cannot just let you leave yet... What is there to stop you from returning in secret?" the Renamon X spoke with that high-pitched and giggly voice... though soon adopted a more menacing tone. "No... Thieves have to be taught an important lesson."
Still... She was forced into an evasive stance as Cathy fired off more string in a attempt to repel off their attacker, something Tamamizu was forced to react with a series of hand signals. "Kohenkyo!" she yelled, seemingly vanishing in plain sight with only a few leaves drifting lightly in the air. Cathy might be able to catch a faint yellow blur seemingly jump right over that venomous string shot of hers... and the shadowy figure of the beast man Digimon in the air close to her, more glowing leaves materializing behind the vixen.
And to add salt to the wound? The leaves were set alight with blue flames as they aimed at their target. Tamamizu was fighting extremely recklessly, tapping into her own life force more than she probably should have... but she was in the moment! "Diamond Storm!" she manically yelled, firing off a close-range barrage of the lit leaves.
Tamamizu has used Kohenkyo to assist in evading Toxic String by leaping over it, aiming a close-range Diamond Storm empowered by Soul Siphon (at the cost of some health).

Kohenkyo - Renamon X vanishes in a swirl of leaves, stealthing her for the turn and granting her a large speed boost provided she can keep moving. "Wh-what?" The larva digimon managed to spring backward about a foot as she witnessed Tamamizu's ability. Too bad it wasn't the diamond storm attack; that was just her reaction, shocked and confused, to watching leaves help make the fox disappear before her very eyes. That was almost a relief, but this caterpillar wasn't fool enough to believe that this witch of a digimon had simply run off. No, she knew the digimon would strike from the shadows; the only question was where and when...
The answer turned out to be 'right in front of Cathy' as well as 'very, very soon.' Heightened in awareness due to her, well, situation, Cathy saw her attacker coming just a split second ahead of the strike, even if it was nothing but a yellow blur that served as warning. Cathy's defense wasn't exactly a graceful dodge or stubborn block. It was just a yelp, "Gyah!" followed by a swift duck, head covered by her two front legs. It was a great surprise, then - at least to Cathy, that this rather desperate maneuver actually worked; the blades sailed right over. "Did that- oh! Oh, thank Yggrdrasil!" Cathy exclaimed when she actually opened her eyes.
Of course, she wasn't much safer in the long term. She still had to strike; not even one of her purely offensive abilities had struck a hit. Now, however, it seemed opportunistic to hit; the digimon was close. Could that make evasion more difficult? One way to find out. Cathy sprang forward as far as her little legs could carry her, which was embarrassingly short but just close enough to try and get her mouth parts for a bite attack.
Cathy evaded Tamamizu's Diamond Storm by ducking under it.Cathy attacked Tamamizu with 'Pillar Nip.

When it came to this fight, Tamamizu had to give credit when it was due... The little Wormmon was resourceful. An admirable trait actually, being able to focus in the face of danger. And what a face she hoped she was presenting.
Of course, Cathy's successful dodge was accidental... but hey, Tamamizu didn't need to know that. Then again, was it a good thing the larva was earning Tamamizu's respect? Even as Tamamizu was painfully bit in the leg by the desperately fighting bug, she grew only increasingly ecstatic.
This Wormmon was a lucky lil' girl! She just HAD to get to know her!
While unable to exactly dart away with her leg clamped painfully by Cathy's mandibles, it wasn't like she wanted to run away right now... She was a close-range fighter at-heart after all. She smirked as she flashed a hand signal, her eyes dilating beneath that mask.
It won't hurt much longer little one.
"Killing Stone!" the fox screeched as they leaned onto the larval Digimon... their form shifting as their skin hardened into stone, she taking on the shape of a statue with a regular fox sculpted into it. However, the statue's narrow eyes gleamed red... noxious fumes pouring rapidly outward in a attempt to engulf her attacker, nearby plant-life wilting at the exposure to the deadly gas.
Sigh... She was going to have to rebuild her garden after this, wasn't she?
Tamamizu was hit by Pillar Nip, but has retaliated with Killing Stone.
