"I still don't understand these... How does Da read stuff like this?"
The meicoomon frowned a bit and turned a page of one of the many medical books she had found lining the walls of the office Mikemon had. She didn't understand half of the words in here or any of the procedures that they spoke of; nor did she even understand the basics that came with them but honestly Holly was bored and wasn't sure what else she could do.
She didn't want to go fishing by herself nor did she want to wander around the library as she got a bad vibe every-time she left the living space that the family had. Not because of anything that happened but just... her gut feeling said not to leave so she just simply followed it. Call it instinct or something but the smells outside of the home were far less friendly than she liked.
Crossing her little legs on the bed she had the meicoomon turned another page; frowning a little further as a diagram of a digimon she had no idea about was the centerpiece of this page. Just what kind of operations called for stuff like this? She wasn't really sure but she wanted to know more about what her dad was doing. It was kind of hard to understand what a team leader did without hearing about them from her mother whom had the air of being somewhat busy. Though she didn't seem to mind the whole smiling, chatting and talking bit when she was here.
Another thing that Holly didn't understand is how her mother left; she never heard the door open and every so often she'd get the heebie jeebies for a second before they went away. She wasn't sure what was going on but she also wasn't sure if her mother was the source of it.
"Meeei... Maybe I should ask Syre? She might understand this better than I do..."
Then again where was her sister anyways? She didn't know the sort of schedule her siblings kept after all. She didn't know what they did during the day past the fun stuff that syre talked about. Like those card or board games! Putting a finger to her mouth she'd turn the page and furrow her brow further as the book seemed to go on about something to do with 'cores'...

Well, another day done in the Library!
Whereas Holly was still trying to fit in, Syre had already found a good routine for herself: a period to study, a period to help out the guests, and even a bit of time outside to practice a bit with Siris. Overall, it was just another day in the books... but what about Holly?
Syre hadn't actually thought of her all that much during the day, opening the door up back to their shared quarters. The cat slid a bag off of her back, stretching her arms out in a tired yawn as she stepped into the room... before seeing the Meicoomon with a book. One of dad's thick textbooks!
"Heh, afternoon, Holly!" A smile was put right on her face, as she stepped on up, and looked over her shoulder - the confused expression on the cat's face told it all! "Hey... I know you're doing your best to try and learn how to read, but this is stuff even I have trouble with. Did you already go through the books dad gave you this morning?"
Or were the children's books too simple?

The meicoomon grumbled a little bit and turned the page again; a swath of words she didn't understand referring to a diagram of yet another digimon she didn't know. It was some type of dragon digimon with large wings; one that she hadn't seen before. Scratching at her head she'd turn slightly however when the door opened up.
"Afternoon Syre! Done with your stuff for today?"
Her confused look stayed and she'd look down at the book when Syre addressed it. With a small sigh she'd nod; those books had been short and somewhat uneventful. All of them seeming far too simple for her; they weren't really a good read and she didn't enjoy them past the second or third time she went through them.
"There's not much in them, a few sentences a page and most of the pages are taken up by images. It didn't really take long cause I kept on wanting to know what happened next. So I thought Da might have something in his room that's more... than that? But I picked this big one cause it looked like it might have a lot! Which it does but it's... a lot of stuff I don't understand. Some of it I do know, like what mons the diagrams are of. Though there's a lot of ones I don't know."
The small digimon shook her head a little bit and stared up at her sister looking somewhat baffled by the older siblings admittance that she had trouble with this sort of stuff too.
"But you're super smart Syre, a book like this shouldn't give you trouble!"

"Mhm! Just got done, in fact!"
The BlackGatomon gave a smile, an arm around Holly's shoulders as she would peer over at the book. Her ear twitched as Holly spoke - the children's books were too easy for her? Already? "Hehe... I think you're a little smarter than you think, Holly." She gave an encouraging chuckle, but shook her head: "I mean, I can read the words that are on the page, but that doesn't mean I understand what the book is trying to say! But, listen, if you want something to read that's up your alley, you should check out the fiction section of the library."
Syre gave a wide grin! "So many things to read, and all of them are stories! Much longer than those big 'cardboard books', too!" The older sister gave a nod... before giving a blink.
Wait...
"... Have... have you been by yourself, all day?"

"That's good!"
Holly split her features with a large smile and the younger digimon blinked a little bit as the other peered over her shoulder at what she was reading. The meicoomon blinked and turned to look down at the book when syre addressed the fact that the meicoomon was smarter than she thought. She went further still to explain that she could read what was on the page but that didn't mean she understood what the book was trying to say to her. The meicoomon frowned slightly however when she suggested checking out the fiction segment of the library.
"I... I would but every-time I leave the house to go to the other segments I can't help but feel Like I shouldn't. Stuff doesn't smell as friendly as I thought it would. I don't really know how to explain it better than that..."
The meicoomon however perked up a bit and grinned ear to ear as the other explained out to her as the other explained more about the fiction books. How they all were larger than the cardboard books she was reading earlier.
"I'm going to have to ignore my gut to go take a look at these but I think it'll be worth it!"
The meicoomon however blinked a few times when the other asked her if she had been by herself all day. It took another few moments to realize that she had spent most of the morning reading which had quickly developed into her finding this book... in which...
"Mei... I think so? I've been sort of pouring over this thing trying to make heads or tails of it."
She'd pause and set the book down looking up at her sister; ears flicking and twitching a bit.
"From everything in this and the other smaller books I read I guess I lost track of time. But there's some stuff in this that while it doesn't make sense I.. kind of understand. Because it all starts the same sort of way, explaining something about a core and then when it gets down into the functionality or specifics I lose it."
The meicoomon shook her head a little bit and briskly closed the book looking somewhat frustrated. She had a very basic understanding of what cores were and what they were supposed to represent from the little bits at the front of the book but even so it referenced another book she had trouble finding.
"I also saw some books that had Da's name on it. I thought they were diaries so I didn't touch them!"
It took the meicoomon a few moments before blinking and realizing she was still talking about this before addressing the earlier question again.
"Should I not of been by myself? I wasn't doing anything bad I promise!"

"It doesn't smell as friendly?" Syre gave a tilt of her head - what did she mean by that? "I mean, it is a library - so a lot of strangers have looked through our books. Maybe its just the number of smells that are throwing you off?"
Syre was just guessing, but that made the most sense to her. Aside from that, though, Holly seemed quite open to checking out some better books, Syre giving an encouraging nod towards her sister! "Mm! I'm looking forward to it!" Aside from that, though, Holly confirmed one of Syre's fears.
She'd been left alone, inside, all day. While dad was at work, while K was off at the base. She gave a blink at that - missing the part about her reading about the cores. Just how used to being alone was she? "I mean, you don't have to stay up here in the room all day. Let Stingmon know and you can go outside - heck, he'll accompany you if you want to check out a city, or something. And of course, I'll go with you when I can!" She gave an encouraging nod... and a laugh, a few moments later!
"No, no, dad wrote those books, Holly!" She gave a chuckle - and shook her head at the last bit. "You're not in trouble, it just seems boring! I mean, surely you need to get some fresh air, or something? Um..."
Just what could they do?
"How about... we go fishing?"

"Maybe... I-I'm not really sure."
The meicoomon scratched her head and let out a small sigh. She didn't really know how to explain it very well if at all. She'd wriggle her ears and stare up at her sister curiously. She was looking forward to it? That brought a small smile to her face.
The meicoomon blinked a little bit and looked down at the book again with a quirk of the brow. She didn't want to really be a bother to her parents at all; she had seen K for a few minutes this morning along with Da and that felt like enough? They both seemed to have a lot on their mind but there was still... a lot that the meicoomon was trying to learn so perhaps she missed something.
"Stingmon? I haven't met him yet I don't think. City? What city? You will?!"
The meicoomon blinked a little bit that smile turning even larger than before; as far as geography was concerned she was practically clueless. It was another thing that would of course be addressed in all due time but as far as it went the world was very small to her at the moment. This room, the village and the rest of the library just seemed so large to her. At the laugh the meicoomon blinked owlishly and tilted her head. Did she say something funny?
"Da's a writer? I mean I could go for some fresh air, it's starting to get stuff in here-"
The meicoomon froze at the suggestion to go fishing. There was a few moments and the meicoomon was almost practically alight with excitement bouncing in her seat before turning around to bounce in front of her sister the book forgotten on the floor for the moment.
"Yes yes! We could go fishing! There's got to be some creeks and stuff around here right? If this stingmon you talked about earlier knows where the fishing stuff is we could! I don't know if Ma or Da picked up anything for us though..."

"Of course I will! And Stingmon's nice, once you get to know him!"
Sheesh, Syre's little sister still had a lot to learn - which was to be expected, for a mere week-old Digimon! Of course, Holly was always a bit much to handle, with her jumping from one topic to the next...
... Until that topic settled on fishing. The light in Holly's eyes was immediately noticeable, the Meicoomon bouncing excitedly a moment later, Syre taking a step back just from the sheer energy of the cat! "H-hey now, careful! We still have to get out there, of course... and they haven't, but I'm sure if we ask, we can borrow Stingmon's line..." And ask she would, though not directly. Reaching into her glove, Syre shot a message down to the insect - who quickly returned the go-ahead for them to go out and have a good evening. "Alright, wait out front, Holly, I'll be right out to meet you." It wouldn't take long at all: Syre soon stepped out of the front of the Library, resting a fishing line over her shoulder and a tackle box in her left hand. She'd give a nod, and lead on, towards a nice lake - one that wasn't too far from the Library, just enough to put it out of sight over the hills.
The day was nice, calm, and clear, Syre soon taking a seat on the grass next to this large pond.
"Don't exactly know what the catches are like around here, but I've seen a fish or two jump from time to time... give it a try!"

"I'll have to talk to him then! I've never met a Stingmon before... And okay!"
Of course there was a lot that she had to learn, she was only a week old after all! Though she seemed to be doing all right for the moment. Smiling wide the meicoomon tilted her head a little bit as her sister had to take a step back from her as she bounced with excitement. She had to realize that her older sister just didn't have the same level of energy as she did. The smaller mon tilted her head just a touch further and wriggled her tendrils softly.
"Sorry! Okay where do we... Mei?"
The meicoomon leaned to look at what her sister was doing before slowly nodding at what her sibling told her to do. She'd of course have to take about five or so minutes to properly find herself at the front. She had gotten a little turned around at one of the stair cases but that was her own fault as she decided to go up instead of down thinking that she was lower than she really was.
Out in front of the library the Meicoomon sat quietly, looking around with a barely veiled awe. The world was such a big place! She couldn't even see everything and she kept turning her head this way or that way. The Meicoomon quickly followed her sister smiling from ear to ear. She'd of course take a seat next to her sister when they managed to get to the large pond.
"Well it's a lot bigger than the one at the village I'll say that! So the catches might be bigger too! Think if we catch a good one Ma or Da will cook it up tonight?"
She looked curious about this particular question; she wasn't sure which of their parents did most of the cooking. Then again it was hard to tell between a doctor and a team leader. Neither seemed like they would be terribly into cooking... Maybe that was something the meicoomon should look into?

Poor Holly... there was just so much that she had to catch up on!
And, unfortunately, Syre might not have been the best at doing so. She loved her sister, of course, and wanted to help her out, but the two were just on such different gears. One was bouncy and energetic, while the other just wanted to sit down and play a game... so what middle ground did they come to? Well, fishing, of course! Seeing Holly's excitement, Syre couldn't help but give a smile: she set out a blanket, and offered both the lure and the tackle box to the Meicoomon.
This, of course, was one thing that Holly would know better than her!
"Mhm! Mom will cook it up nice, if we get a good one!" Syre gave a chuckle, watching Holly set herself up at the edge of the pond. She'd caught fish before, after all - and Stingmon's line wasn't too different from the one she'd used before, anyway!
"Lemme watch, I wanna see what you do!"

Of course with how much there was for Holly to catch up on also meant that she would be so much more ready for things when she finally did!
Even if her sister wasn't the best at doing so it was nice to see a bit of effort put into it. She could feel the love from her sibling and her parents; but considering everything she was more attached to her father for some simple reasons. She might be bouncy and energetic; but who was to say how long that would stay around? It might change later down the line as she got older or when she even digivolved!
She was glad that they were able to find some middle-ground for the moment; the Meicoomon scanned the area and tilted her head just a little bit. Her excitement was overbearing sometimes but that didn't stop her from addressing the location and comparing it to the creek or pond that she had fished in back at the village.
"Good! I don't really know what's good for eating but hopefully she does!"
The meicoomon was a busy center of motion, one tendril popped open the tacklebox, the other addressed her line making sure that there weren't any immediate tangles. She had gotten a few of those before and was frustrated with it. A few mons had told her how to deal with it at extreme arm distance. She'd look over the bait she'd have to use and hummed quietly. Slowing down just a little bit as she also tried to pick out what she wanted to have at the end of the line.
Eventually she settled on a medium sized lure with a slightly larger bob. If they caught something they'd want to see it move more than anything else.
"There's a bunch of stuff that was at the village. I had to run around and grab more stuff there but this box is really useful! If we wanna catch something bigger I think we should use these? Cause there's four of us right?"
She'd flick her ears a little bit and grin up at her sister; going over the bob and the lure for her sister again. She had to work the bait on and would of course once they were ready would cast the line an impressive distance! She'd keep an eye on the bob while her head turned to look at her sister.
"I kept on over throwing in the creek and getting it stuck in the trees on the other side... don't really have to worry about that here at least! Oh... right uh. If it's too big I'm going to need your help sis I'm not that strong..."

This was Holly's time to shine!
Really, it was - Syre knew next to nothing about this hobby. Sure, she knew about bait and the lure and the line, but nothing about how to use them or catch anything. All she could do was listen to the 'expert' - one who probably didn't know how to descale a fish as it was! Regardless, Syre looked on in interest, peering over those tackles as Holly picked through the lures.
What she used would matter in what size of fish they would catch? Tilting her head, Syre gave a nod. "Um, yeah, sure!" She decided to act as the encouraging sister, even if she didn't know much about the hobby at all. But did Holly really know how to fish, or...
Oh. Syre gave an impressed whistle as that lure dropped dead-center in the lake! "Heh... sounds like you had quite the arm, there!" The BlackGatomon gave a chuckle... and a blink, at Holly's next words. "Um... sure, I think I can help... but I thought you could catch fish up to your own size?"
Just how big of a fish did Holly think was in there? Still, with that warning, Syre watched that bob ever so intently...

Honestly as far as things went Holly knew the bare basics of fishing.
She knew the general strength of simple lines, that they could catch something about her weight without much of an issue. That the lures dictated the size of fish you were trying to go after. That the bobs were the things that you watched and the bait had to be on the hook else you would never catch anything. She was far from an expert but she had been doing it practically nonstop for a day or two. Out of her three days of being in the village that seemed like a long time to her.
But it was coming to the point where things seemed far longer to her now; that she had a lot more time on her hands and a lot in front of her. She'd flick her ears a little bit and smile at her sister. She figured that was the case with the lures anyways; she wasn't really sure why you would use a smaller lure for larger things.
Truth be told the meicoomon had the faintest of inklings of this enjoyable pass time. She knew so little about it but all of it was simple enough to where it felt like she knew a lot about it.
"Well... the creek wasn't very wide. I'll have to show you sometime when we get the chance! Maybe when the village isn't so uptight..."
The meicoomon let out a small chuckle and then she'd nod a little bit at her sister.
"Well I can! But if we catch one bigger than that I'll need help! That and this isn't my rod, I don't want it to break... Cause I think stingmon would be really mad at us if that was the case..."
The little meicoomon looked a little uncertain there and quietly stared out at the bob waiting for it to move. Waiting for it to do anything at all....

Sure, Holly's understanding of the sport was simple, but from Syre's perspective, she might as well have been an expert - and once the BlackGatomon caught up to her sister, since the Meicoomon wasn't terribly far ahead, it was something that they could enjoy together as sisters!
As excited as the Meicoomon was before, simply sitting by a creek, chatting with her sister, was undoubtedly a relaxing experience for the Gatomon. No caverns to explore, Minotaurmon to attack, D-Reaper to rescue spirit totems from... just a relaxing day next to the lake, looking down into the calm water as that bob floated gently in the middle. Holly's words earned a nod from the cat: "Mm. Don't worry, we'll be careful - oh!"
Oh, there it went! The bob moved once, before being pulled underwater, the top of Stingmon's line diving down at an angle! Holly, if she got a grip, would be able to get an idea of the size of the fish - something the size of a trout, only about half of her size or so! "Heh!" Syre stood close by - if Holly asked for help, she would, but she'd likely be able to handle this on her own!

Holly bounced a little bit and beamed at syre as they had to wait for the fishing rod to do it's work. It was absolutely nice that they could do something together like this. Something that they as sisters could share. Even if she had been far ahead with the fishing she would of taken time to explain, and she figured that syre being smarter than her would of learned it easily!
She hadn't adventured herself. She had experienced the caverns, the minotaurmon's, the D-reaper trapped spirit totem... She had only her time at the village and the time with her family. She cherished it, she loved it. And even though that her mother and father weren't here right now... Well she knew they'd be around more and more as time passed. They wouldn't be busy all the time.
"Mei? Me-Mei!"
The meicoomon let out a surprised sound and with a surprising amount of firmness started to pull the rod and drew her hand back to the reel. slowly and firmly reeling it in. It wasn't very big but that was okay; they didn't need to always catch big things! It still was a frustrating pull but she didn't mind the idea of something being smaller than her.
"W-wasn't expecting something this quickly! Musta... got something's attention!"
The exertion was obviou but it didn't stop her from reeling and carefully watching the line as it pulled taught. She'd ease up here and there but keep on her pace.
"So even if we don't get something big... is it okay to eat them?"
The meicoomon after all had been getting food from the fridge or the pantry in the library but at the village she hadn't eaten a single fish she had caught. She had tossed them back and had eaten whatever the swanmon had given her. Mostly meats and some really tasty thing that made her skin tingle.
