"...Who between us that got the big idea to go here again?" a teen asked his partner. His pants already dirtied with lot of the bayou's mud. Unfortunately for him, he's not going to get out of this place anytime soon. It's dark, and what's worse, there's no trails in here. Ilbert unfortunately still cannot access his higher form, hence creating the case where he would be absolutely useless in here should he accidentally get inside a bog. Moreover, the fact that he's too huge as a Trailmon definitely doesn't help.
"We didn't," the blue lizard Digimon partner answered. "We're just here because we're... you know... we're trying to train and suddenly..."
"Something just strike us... where were we're heading to?"
"Spartan Training Ground. That's like... still far away from here... possibly about two to three days walk. With flying though it would be eight hours or so... but yeah... I digress... uh... do you still afraid of ghosts, Aniki?"
"...Well, Digimons not so. I can punch them, right?"
"Right, you can punch them... But really, I wouldn't know where we are... and or some reason, our map function kind of disabled in here... what's the big idea anyway?"
"No idea, but sounds like some jamming ability or something. Can you evolve... uh, like before?"
"No, that's the thing. I don't feel like I can evolve at the moment."
Losing memories, losing the bond that they have built over the years already a punch in the gut, and at this moment it felt like they're stomped on the gut and pressed hard by the perpetrator. What could a small child stage do in this sort of situation? Nothing, at most, he can fight back a bit, but honestly, not being stronger kind of blows, really blows...
"...Is there is any dark tower here I wonder..."
"...Who knows? What's even Dark Tower?"
"...It's a long story," with a resigned sigh, Valt decided to end the conversation there. It's time to press on.

The next stage of Colin's adventures would take him back to the Backup Bayou. A curious place, namely because of all the mysterious ruins and oddly isolated villages of natives in the recently-discovered region. Colin always wanted to explore here in full. It was his duty as a newly-recruited AEGIS agent after all.
What with PROFIT dissolving upon the disappearance of Yuu and Mana, Colin had accepted his sister's offer to act as an agent of the organization made to protect against threats from the digital world. As a compromise, Colin mostly acted as the organizations Digital World operative. With the strongest digimon of AEGIS as his partners and having the mercenary Daedalus acting as swift air transport, Colin's job was to scout around the digital world and home in on threats that might endanger Earth or other humans living in the digital world. And, well, even if it wasn't in his job description, there'd be no way in hell that he wouldn't stop to help other digimon too.
So, after landing on the edge of the wetlands and disembarking from the Heliodramon, Colin and his partners began their walk into the marshes. Along with the 15 year old were his twin partners Luke the Elecmon and Bellamy the Impmon, dressed today in their leather shoulder armor; and also present was Bellamy's daughter Gaz the Gazimon, who was excited to go on adventures with her dad, uncle and, well, she supposed Colin was kind of her partner too, in a technical way anyway.
"Yeesh, the ground's pretty soft here" Gaz remarked as they entered the wetlands. Colin was so far looking at his digivice for signs of something they could investigate.
"Yeah, it's almost like this place is a big stinkin' swamp" Bellamy said, sarcastically, looking very unhappy about being here. "If we're lucky we might even not drown at the end of the day, wouldn't that be nice?"
"Heh, easy there, dad, I'm sure we're gonna watch our step easy enough" Gaz told him. She then hesitated. "Um... though... what do we do if, you know, bog pit, fall into, that happens?"
"Well, you could always try the Bellamy-stroke" Luke advised Gaz.
"Huh? What's that?" Gaz asked.
"Get so indignant about getting wet that you just pout, fold your arms and sink to the bottom" Luke joked, making Gaz snicker and Bellamy glare. "But it's true though! Colin's been trying to teach you how to swim, you just don't wanna do it. And now you've got the diving gear program, so, not like you can drown or anything".
"Bah, kiss my ass, Luke" Bellamy scoffed, although he wasn't really angry since that was kinda true, but, eh, he just didn't like it in the Bayou. Too smelly and dirty for his likes. But, he didn't refuse point blank to be here because of the huge amount of treasures and interesting things to find in here, he'd just let it be known that this wasn't his first choice of locations to visit.
"Don't worry, Gaz. Just activate the diving gear program like we've taught you, then we'll either pull you out or you can swim out of it if it's thin enough, or climb out if you can't".
They were exploring for most of the day, finding relatively mediocre objects of interest. Seemed that there just wasn't much out there today. And, all too suddenly, the sun began to set.
"Eh, I think we're done here, let's call Daedalus" Bellamy said, wanting a shower to wash the mud off his feet. Colin attempted to do so, but... something was off about his digivice.
"Huh... there's no contact" Colin remarked.
"WHAT?!" Bellamy yelped. "Are you serious?!"
"Yeah... the map function's gone too..." Colin added, frowning. This wasn't good. They... couldn't be lost here for the night could they?
"Can we evolve at least?" Luke inquired, also looking serious. Colin checked, the card slash function was also still active.
"Yeah, you can" he said. If not by card then by digimental. "Huh, the radar function's active too. It's detecting another digivice nearby. Maybe they could help us?"
And so, Colin and his partners proceeded carefully through the swampland. Bellamy conjured a fireball to light their way once the light faded too far. The furred Impmon was scared, but, he had to be brave, for his daughter at the very least.
Then, eventually, Colin homed in on the contact and was within sight of them. "Hey! Hello there! Are you lost too?" he called out. There was a very muscular young man, and a Veemon as well. Luke and Bellamy gave puzzled looks at the Veemon. While they couldn't remember, they had the feeling that they met this one before. Colin, meanwhile, had his eyes fixed on the human.
"...Ryouta?!" he gasped, almost dropping his digivice in shock. "Is... is that you?!"
Gaz was kind of confused about all this, so she'd simply observe for the time being. She simply raised her paw, made a peace motion, and said "yo".

Honestly, Valt wasn't sure what they're supposed to d at the moment. His instinct told him that it's probably wise to climb up a tree, then try to find any sort of lead... Well at the very least they're still able to see the sun, thus they can find their way out... well, hopefully. If he recalls it correctly, some locals unfortunately doesn't speak the common language. Hence, he can't really hope to talk with them. Still...
"There's no tall trees here..."
"Sadly, yeah. It's a bit too close to each other too, don't you think?"
"At times like this I wish I could be XVmon you know? Help a lot, but... yeah... what caused this disturbance I have no idea. At any rate... if this is work of some dark tower... me might have better time running away than... you know, fighting whatever guarding the thing."
"Guarding? You're saying as if..."
"As if it's place of importance? Fully made to deter us or something? Because that's the theory... sorta."
"Oh crud. Me and my big mout-- Hey, looks like we're not alone."
"Ahoy!" Valt greeted the newcomers, but then his smile sank. Oh God... how to explain this... He really don't want them to meet at this state, but... here they are. They need to explain something.
"...Uh... yeah that's me... a..."
"These are... friends, you see. You don't need to try to know them or try hard to recall it, just... stay neutral alright? I'll explain the situation. Hey pals!" Valt approached Colin, purposely, he seem to order Ryouta to take a little steps back. After all, this situation is really that super complicated.
"...How to say... uh... hi I guess first and foremost, long time no see... looks like you guys are healthy and all that jazz, heh... Looking sharp there, Bells and Luke. I kind of want to meet you in better situation, but looks like we don't really have much of a choice do we... Name's... I'm Valt now. As you three can see, I'm a Vmon now, and... well, about Aniki, how to say this... He's at the moment... I wouldn't call it amnesic, but... how to say... a lot of happening that happened in Digital World... doesn't seem to exist in his mind... a lot of our friends are like that, so... it's like... he's losing two years of his memories you see... So it would be appreciated if you could understand the situation and not... ask him too much."
His tone, it sounded like... resignation, slight panic, but most of all, a feeling of sadness that Ryouta even have to forgot about the newbies he tutored to enter the Digital World.

Colin continued to stare at the two individuals in front of him. Ryouta confirmed that was his name, but, he didn't seem to recognize them at all. Then the Veemon looked like he was trying to do some damage control. That was when the trio knew something was really wrong here, so remained silent while the blue dragon approached them to explain things. Then the Veemon explained things. From his words, this was actually Ryu, but, it seemed he had come back with a different form, and his name was Valt now. Bellamy made a small whimpering noise at the back of his throat, his green eyes moistening a little, but he held his emotions in check for the moment. Then Valt explained that Ryouta's memories weren't all that... well... stable for the time being. Colin made his understanding with a nod. "Yeah, of course. Gosh, thanks for telling us that, we'll try and be easy about this" he assured him. Then turned to his partners. "Right, guys?"
"Yeah, I understand" Luke added. But Bellamy, the Impmon was still frozen in place. Then, somewhat suddenly, he walked forward, then wrapped his arms around the Veemon, drawing him into a hug. Tears were falling freely from his eyes. He wanted to say so much, but at the same time, didn't want to overwhelm Ryouta with all this information, so it was all he could do to let his actions speak. Ryu was still alive! Yeah, he was Valt now but he remembered them! Bellamy had been so distraught that day over the Everfalls. Seeing Ryu die... it hurt. It had hurt for so long afterward. And that Ryouta disappeared as well, he thought he had failed utterly and entirely. So much so that he had triggered his evolution to Super Mega, but, he remembered little of that afterward. But... now he was back. He was alive! One of the digimon he most respected in the whole world. Eventually, Bellamy recovered, letting the Veemon go, wiping his eyes. "S-sorry... just... I remember... things" he apologized, retreating backward until he was at Colin's side, looking a little ashamed at losing control of his emotions again. He took a deep breath, turning around to calm himself. "Well... uh... heya, guess we're both kinda stuck here, huh?" Colin asked Ryouta. "Would you know what was going on?" he asked with curiosity. Then realized that he had left a bit out of this.
"Ah, sorry, I forgot to introduce ourselves" he said. "My name's Colin James, and these are my twin partners Luke and Bellamy. Nice to meet you" he spoke, trying not to notice how hollow it felt to introduce himself to someone he had known since the start of his adventures in the digital world. He then heard the sound of throat clearing. "Ah, and this is Bellamy's daughter Gaz" he added.

It's hard, and Valt understood that. "...Heh, did you cried when I died, Bells? Thanks for that..." gently, the Vmon pat his back. "...It's OK, just let it all out. There's no need to hold back right now... yeah, don't worry. I'm right here now and I'm fine. As long as the bond of Digivice still bind me with Aniki I'll return no matter how many times I have to be reformatted. It's alright Bells."
On the introduction Ryouta just smiled sadly. "...Something in me supposed to say that I knew you, or there's a vague memories of being friends with you, but sadly I don't feel anything like that at all... I... I'm really sorry. I know it sounded very mean, but... I really can't help it. Admittedly you're not the first one who got this sort of treatment you see... It... happened to several people already... all of them said they knew me, how I helped them and all that stuff, but... I don't remember any of it. It felt like the "me" that you guys knew are like some sort of superhuman to me at the moment. I felt like I'm just a normal guy who got blessed by some nice gene... but... well, how to say this... All I know is that I'm not really 'normal', but if somehow talked like how I fight with creatures bigger than me daily, that's like stretching my belief a bit too much..."
Still, as of what does he know... "...Well, all I know is that Valt cannot evolve. We were going to look for some sort of railway to get Ilbert to get us out from here, that was the plan, but... I don't think Ilbert can evolve either... So... yeah. Well, I have no idea what is happening here either. There supposed to be some mechanism called Dark Tower here. Maybe if we could escape its range, or if we can destroy it, we could get out from here finally?"
"Thing is, while flying I don't seem to find any of such structure," Valt added. "It's not too hard to find something like that, but I didn't find any of it, even from far away."

Bellamy nodded through his sobs. He remembered little the moment after Ryu was slain. He had evolved, lost control, and the next thing he remembered was falling into the sea as an Impmon. He would have drowned had it not been for Luke to rescue him a moment later. Luke and Colin, he corrected himself in his mind. Apparently he had evolved to Super Ultimate and lost control in his rage, but the rage was too much and he lost energy, so Colin evolved Luke to rescue him.
The Impmon had been inconsolable for days afterward, but it was through the efforts of his twin brother and their friend Cion that he had recovered enough to function, that night on the Network Plains.
But now Ryu was back. Yes, he wasn't quite the same, but, Bellamy's tears were through joy as well as grief. It was a lot for him to process, but, after his tears ran dry, he couldn't help but smile at his friend and mentor. "Once we get outta here we should totally hang out sometime" he said.
Colin meanwhile forgave Ryouta with a solemn nod and smile. "That's okay. We can start again if you like" he said. That was all he could do really. All in all, Colin knew that Ryouta was a good person at heart, so if they had been friends before, they could be so again.
Then Ryouta mentioned that there might be something of a dark tower in the vicinity. "...Dark Tower?!" Luke repeated, eyes wide. "But... we can evolve still, can't we, Colin?"
"You can, but only to your Armor forms" Colin clarified. Luke acknowledged that fact. Well, thankfully their armor forms would be enough defense for a night in the bayou, or at least enough for them to get out of its range.
"Huh, yeah, Daedalus didn't see anythin' in his sweep of the area today either" Bellamy remarked. Since Dark Towers tended to be massive structures at least 100 meters high, they were fairly obvious.
"Maybe it sank into the swamp?" Gaz suggested. Colin and his partners glanced at her. "You know, whoever's buildin' them might've put it on some muddy ground, it rained, then, sank faster than dad doing the Bellamy-Stroke".
"Don't freakin' call it that!" Bellamy snapped at his daughter, but Colin and Luke hid their snickers. Still though, that theory might be onto something?
"Can't rule out an underground tower either" Luke added, noting the ruins in the area could possibly hold something like that.

"Heh, hanging out would be nice, but before that we gotta get out from here, alright?" Valt reminded. But either way... "I have no idea, it's just a theory. Either some underground dark tower, or you know... pieces of it. I have no idea if it's still intact or not, though. But come to think of it, you guys did quite a lot of information gathering right? Do you guys know whether pieces of dark tower can have effect of the original one?"
Starting a new one is a bit awkward, but either way, Ryouta offered a handshake. "Noguchi Ryouta, although I guess you already know that. I seem was your mentor back then, but this time around I'll be depending on you heh... Sorry about that."
And it looks like that even Daedalus didn't saw anything while they're flying. "...Then, most likely, an underground tower after all?" Valt mused outloud. "...But just how deep is this for the tower to be able to reach this far? And then where would be the entrance be?"
"...So about this dark tower..." Ryouta subtly asked
"Ah right, basically as we said it inhibits evolution, but at the same time, it also enslaved Digimons. This is just what I heard, but normally Digimons that enslaved by it are unwilling. So if the tower gone down, so will the control on the Digimons... This might be just a theory, but apparently the control is in form of magnifying the Digimon's deepest desire. Their ego, turn it up to 11. That's how it works."
"...Uwah, sounds scary..."
"...Well that's the gist of it... So what should we do? Should we just evade, or should we look for the tower?"

"Ugh, yeah, true there" Bellamy agreed. Hanging out in this goddamn swamp at night was the last thing he wanted to do. But Valt did raise a point that made Colin and company consider that.
"Well... we did encounter a dark tower before" Colin began. "However, once we managed to make it collapse, its power disappeared, so, if this is a broken tower we're talking about, it shouldn't have any effect anymore".
"But Colin, don't discount what the tower's made of" Luke interrupted. "It's... a substance with energy. Remember what Owen told us?"
"Oh yeah, right" Colin remembered, when Owen had told them of a lab in the Sunken Elysium that apparently researched this. The Gaomon had told them that the dark towers were made of a substance called "black digicite". Perhaps something like that was active here?
Then Ryouta accepted the offer to start again. Colin returned his handshake with a smile. Colin was somewhat taller than he was when they first met, so it felt a little more comfortable this time around. "No need to apologize" Colin replied, gently.
Valt then raised a point about the position of this tower. Logic had it that it was indeed underground, but, where was the entrance? Given that he lacked heavy drilling equipment, in addition to the fact that one of his partners had a mortal fear of drowning in the bog, Colin was a little limited in the options at hand here.
Valt then described the effects of the tower, then, the question was raised whether or not they should investigate.
"Frankly..." Bellamy began, loudly. "I can think of an infinite amount of things I'd rather do than look for a dark tower in the bog in the middle of the night, complete with guardian, so, I propose we get outta here first, then we can launch an investigation". He paused before adding "...in the morning".
"Well... as much as I hate that the dark tower exists here, I agree with Bellamy" Colin added. "The entrance is probably one of the ruins around here, which we're not very likely to find tonight".
Luke gave a nod to this logic from his brother and partner.

They're true. Best to return next day for investigation. However, it still bothered him why this thing is not really in here, up on the surface. If pieces of it won't work then surely... it's underground, right? At least he doesn't see anything out of ordinary when he was on the surface, which means it must be underground, or hidden in some sort of cave. But it's unlikely for this place to have any sort of cave. Underground passageway perhaps? But either way, Bells is right.
"Come to think of it, does our digivice came with automap function?" Ryouta asked "Or that somehow muted too by the dark tower? If that's yeah then wow..."
"That... I never think of that... Can we perhaps use it to find the shortest way out?" Valt offered an idea.
"Well... let's try anyway..." Ryouta takes out his digivice. The said Digivice is not the old one that he have when he met with Colin the first time, but a pure white one, and smaller in size too... The white Digivice barely have any detailing, and simply lines and "DIGITAL MONSTER" in digimoji surrounding the screen. It's the so called D-1. Had it been canon, this might be a downgrade but it doesn't seem that Ryouta minded.
"...Hmmm... Come to think of it, I never tinkered with this stuff...."

Ryouta mentioned the automap function. Colin looked at his own digivice for confirmation of its functions. It was slow to load, and that frustrated him, but, gradually, enough information seemed to be gathered from the map to provide useful information. Colin noted that his digivice was a different model to Ryouta's. The "D-Arc" model to be precise, one with additional functions, such as ability to use cards.
"So, it seems from here, the main interference is from the southeast" Colin explained from what he saw, given that information from the northeast was at good quality while at the opposite end of the map, all he got was garble. "I guess if we want to get out, we go that way, but if we want to investigate further, we go the other way?" Colin asked unsurely. "Um... Luke, can you help here please?"
"Sure thing" Luke said, approaching him to look at the digivice's information. The Elecmon scanned the information on the screen carefully. "Yeah, it looks like it's pretty much what you said, although..." Luke narrowed his blue eyes. "There's a signal nearby too... looks like it might come from another digimon".
"Are they hostile?" Bellamy asked, horrified.
"No... uh... seems like... they're just a child level, like us" Luke said. "We should probably check them out. A child level by themselves probably won't last long in this area".
As much as Bellamy hated that excuse, he had to agree. "Yeah, let's check 'em out" he said, shivering. If it was another digimon in distress he hoped they'd be freaking grateful.

"Well at the moment to get away from the interference as soon as possible seem to be the best way to get out of it, so I agree that we should head that way," Valt answered. Ryouta meanwhile tinkered with his Digivice and found out that instead his mapping function is in his D-Terminal instead.
"Well, that's that... Hmmm... A child level..."
"This pattern... it's kinda an SOS Signal isn't it?"
"I guess we'll know what's wrong once we're there. I think we all agree to go there... let's go."
With hastened steps, Ryouta decided to hurry up. Somehow part of him felt there is something really bad about this... Trap? Perhaps, but none of that matters at the moment... because soon enough he saw a small blue Digimon on the ground.
"...Holy shi--"
Several particles floating on his sides... Data, blood data. It felt like the Digimon is in critical situation. The Digimon is lying prone on the harder part of the bayou, but surrounding that small area are swamps. It's clear that whoever responsible is using this Digimon as a bait to lure in weaker Digimons.
"...Oy oy oy oy, this is not supposed to be like this!" Valt muttered under his breath. "Hey, Luke, do you still have any healing abilities? If not we might need to cover it with something... This is really bad!"

An SOS signal? That sure drew their attention. "Yeah, let's do that!" Colin agreed, and they would make progress through the bayou as safely as possible. Then they saw the digimon in question. A child level, data rising... he was slowly dying. Yet there was hazards all around him. A trap indeed. Luke turned to Valt as he was spoken to. Yes, Luke did have healing abilities, but in his armor adult form...? No, he didn't have that. "...I can heal in my Armor Adult form" Bellamy said instead. This surprised them. Normally Bellamy was the attacker while Luke was the defender, but, it seemed their armor forms had different roles in mind for them. "Then that's what we gotta do" Gaz concluded. "Dad, do you think you can heal him?""Only if I get close enough..." Bellamy admitted. "But those swamps... unless I can fly I can't get there!""Well then, it's settled" Luke stated. "Colin, please armor digivolve us. Once we do so, we'll have more options". Colin gave a nod in response, then drew his D-Terminal and D-Arc. "Digiarmor Energize!" he called, invoking the digimentals he had obtained so far. The Digimentals of Compassion and Tenacity. Both of them spewed forth from the matrix of the D-Terminal, and reacted with both of his partners. "Elecmon armor digivolve to... RedLekismon! The Archer of Compassion!""Impmon armor digivolve to... BlackGatomon! The Hunter of Tenacity!"
"Alright, here we go..." Colin said, then turned to Ryouta and Valt. "What should we do next?"

"...But I can't evolve to my armor adult stage..." Valt dejectedly announced. Shit. he's supposed to be the senior here and now he's a liability? Homeostasis, what kind of cruel joke is this. Still, unless he can fly? Ryouta suddenly tapped what looked like a card holder on his waist. The deck unraveled like a magician spreading the deck into a disk. Ryouta tapped it once again. The card that came out is...
"...Wing of Light. Let's assume we can still use our cards, then what should we do?"
"...I think I can try lifting Bells, but even then I'm not sure how fast can I be..."
"...OK, so... the plan is I'll slash this card... Bells should be light enough, right? Let's assume that Valt can lift him and toss him there, but I think he'll be targeted by the approaching enemy. Luke, I don't know what you can do, but I think if it's related to lightning, you might could snipe any Digimons that try to approach them. Is this plan good enough or do you guys have other idea?"
"Whatever it is, I'll trust you guys. I'm the liability here, so..."

So, seemed like the plan was to fly over the muck, eh? Bellamy shuddered at the thought, but, still, he just wanted to get this over.
"Yeah, alright, I should be light enough to carry..." he said. He weighed about the same as a Maine Coon in this form after all. A little weighty, but enough so that a V-mon of all things should be able to hold. "Although if we fall in, Colin, diving gear, right away!"
"Okay of course" Colin promised, he understood how dangerous the bogs were around here. And on top of that there was the problem of enemy fire. Ordinarily Bellamy would've "nope'd" the fuck out of there right there and then, but as BlackTailmon he was somewhat braver than normal, a testament to his Crest of Tenacity.
"Luke, what's your options here?" he asked his brother. "Thunderbolt, Rain Lance, what else?"
"Well... I do have cards too" Colin said, indicating his own card holder. "There's some long range attacks I can help you guys use too".
"Alright, although if you decide to use the Armadillomon one to turn me into a brick so I sink to the bottom I'll kill you" Bellamy growled, but there was no substance to this threat, he just disliked this situation and was taking it out in his speech. With that, he turned to Valt.
"Whenever you're ready, pal, let's help that poor digimon" he said, bracing for the actions that were to come.

"Alright, let's do it!" SLASH!!Ryouta tossed the card to the air and for some reason it stagnated midair and rotating rapidly until the youth grabbed it again. He quickly slid his digivice diagonally downward while pulling the card diagonally upward.
"Card Slash!!"
Sparks flew out from the card reader, almost like a power awaiting to be unleashed. The card slowly deciphered by the card reader, sending flow of data to the Digivice. The moment the bottom tip of the card fully scanned...
"Wing Guardians - 021, Wing of Light!"
The light shot out to Valt. The Digimon's back immediately glowed and is now equipped with light wings similar to those of a fairy. He's not feeling fabulous however. Whatever the case, he's now ready.
"Sorry, I'm not Coronamon, Bells, but for now this must do," Valt joked. He quickly grabbed the Impmon now Black Tailmon in secure chest hug. The dragon took flight, but before he could fly for long, suddenly something blazes past them, nearly hitting Valt had the dragon did not suddenly changed his trajectory.
"Fuck that was so fast! Bells I'll drop you right now. I'm counting on your cat reflex!"
Before the other Digimon could return Valt tossed Bellamy at the small piece of land where the Dokamon is. Their enemy soon revealed itself to be.. A Blade Kuwagamon!
"...Shi--, no wonder!"
