There was so much for her to do still.
The paperwork for this place was threatening to overwhelm her even though that there was barely a soul living here. She had managed to get a few cooks, some cleaning individuals and even was seeing a few people trying to use this place as a safe haven with their own homes destroyed. The tower on it's own was large and a safe bastion but there wasn't enough room for too many people. But if they were able to grow, able to expand and get more... Get more people to back them then perhaps they would be more than just a simple force.
The shutmon shifted and looked over the few stacks of data pads she had to go over. A few of them were just licences and things she had to sign to get it so the construction crew could finish the touches here or there. One of these were a contract for the individual that she had 'hired' as well as looking over to get one of her friends a permanent job here as a transport mon. But it was taking time, it was slow and she wasn't exactly sure how to go through it. There were more things associated with it than she thought.
Flipping through a few of the pads one such pad drew her attention that had several old messages from an old contact of hers. Telling her about how things were in several different locations. He had some connections of his own and he was trying his best to keep her informed but he was getting stretched thin. Swiping through the data she'd frown and shake her head placing it aside.
There was another thing that had her on her toes for today. She had sent Oathgard the message that vander tower had been completed. That the coordinates for him would be following suit after they moved the tower to a more appropriate position. It took a little bit of finagling and a little bit of hope that the thing wouldn't dip out of the sky but they managed to take a good position far enough from rosewood that they wouldn't be overbearing.
She needed to get someone that would be able to steer this a lot better than she would and would be willing to do it often. She might have to consider hiring someone next to the shopkeep that she intended. Pressing a button on her desk there would be a brief moment before a small holographic projection popped out. Several more read outs gave her information about their location and any breaches from the movement. Sighing she'd swipe and tag another setting which gave her a ringing sound. She had maybe four seconds of silence before she spoke.
"Joseph do you read me?"
"Yes Miss K."
"Any problems ground-side?"
"Some trees were damaged when we moved, I've spoken to a few of the locals around here. They were more scared of a moving island than anything. One of the tree's damaged is a rare sort so they're worried about that too."
"So we need an altitude adjustment."
"Yes Ma'am. Fifty feet should clear anything, we dipped in too low when the air pressure changed."
"Get those trees fixed and get back onto the island. Once you're up here make the adjustments, we should be much higher than we are."
"Yes Ma'am. How high?"
"Minimum three hundred feet. A thousand if you can figure out the winds."
"That might take a while ma'am."
"It's fine Joseph. If there's one thing we have it's time."
With a weary sigh the shutmon leaned back and shook her head. There was a lot of finagling that they'd need to do for this place. Without a constant presence of someone that was an engineer or magician the island would be in a constant state of flux. She couldn't expect any of her knights to constantly look after it so she'd have to consider someone else for it.
"Joseph."
"Ma'am?"
"When you get back up here, I want you to also make a few calls. See who we can get assigned here."
"Last time we spoke Ma'am, Shopkeeper, Guard, and a transport were the ideal ones."
"We don't need a guard. That's why we hired him. So we need a shopkeeper and engineer type. We might have to scrap getting a team transport and stick with a personal stand in."
"Of course ma'am. See you soon."
"Stay safe joseph."
The shutmon turned off the holographic display, promptly ending the call. Closing her eyes she'd sigh softly and shake her head. There was so much to do and so much that she'd have to address. The last of which was steadily becoming more of a problem.
"Going to need to figure out finances... maybe get trade routs with the major cities established and see if we can get some guards there... wipe out bandits... eugh... I hate asking for money for simple jobs but we can't tackle the big threats or wisemon without funding."
The shutmon gave a glance at the timestamp on her last call and frowned. It was just past midday and she was still not even close to done with anything she wanted to do...

It was, perhaps, the lowest-flying island that Oathgard had seen, but K had at least made good on her promise. Flying so low over the Eastern Timberlands, it wasn't hard to track the position of Vander Tower - clearly, this was only a temporary measure. Right now, the approaching Angemon figured that K was likely buried in the administrative hell of paperwork:
Contracts. Procuring a license to occupy airspace. Occupancy fees. Damage from the take-off. Environment analysis. This, and many more, would be among the papers on the Shutmon's desk, the innkeeper probably dealing with far more than she had ever in her own line of work. And, unfortunately, the troubles of bureaucracy weren't going to end there.
Just as she was done with her most recent call - perhaps given just enough time to frustratedly grip at her sinus - she would hear another knock at the door. If beckoned inside, she'd be met, face-to-face, with the only untested member of the club. The angel would give a nod: "Impressive enough that you managed to have all of this organized... I pray you've managed to keep a running list of all the contracts you've signed off on to get this place running?"
If not, this was going to be an economical nightmare - Oathgard might shield her from Luminas, but the tax man was another story!

The shutmon shook her head; there was a lot that she still needed to do. The island itself wasn't flying high enough not because it couldn't but because they were still unused to maneuvering it. There was some damages they'd have to deal with and once Joseph would be back she'd have them up in the air. The Angemon was right to figure that K was buried in administrative paperwork. But was it a hell for her?
No. No it wasn't. It was something she was willing to deal with and push through.
She was used to a lot to keep her inn running certainly but a lot of it didn't cover what she had to deal with here. The occupancy fee's were manageable as long as they kept to the same location. The take off damage was... something she was working on. The Environment analysis itself was something they'd need an expert for and she wasn't sure how to even deal with that.
Of course she was leaning back in her chair, rubbing at her muzzle with a frustrated sigh. There was still so much to do that she couldn't rest. She was the sort that maybe... if she needed to she could use something much weaker than this to take care of herself. At the knock the shutmon spoke quietly.
"Enter."
Upon seeing oathgard she felt her hackles twitch and her cape that draped over the chair she was sitting in shifted ever so slightly. Not out of a defensive reason but out of surprise. She hadn't expected the angel to be here so quickly.
"There's a lot of work that goes into running certain things; organization is something that I can deal with. The running list of contracts that I've signed off on isss..."
The shutmon leaned and ran her hand over the desk, the holographic display popping up, sliding to one side and flipping around. A slowly scrolling list was now on display rather than the weather report and location of her one individual she had control of within the region.
"It's a growing list for certain, we've got a lot of support because of all the things I managed to do before hand. I've earned a lot of trust with a lot of the right people. Made a lot of friends in the right places. Be something for long enough and people want to see you soar. Now it's just a manner of keeping aloft."
The last sentence was a mutter and the shutmon shook her head, leaning tiredly on her arm while staring quietly at the Angemon. She... didn't mind him being here even if he was with luminas. He represented a few things she could use and a long list of things she couldn't if she wanted to keep luminas safely on the wing.
"But... even as it is. Even with everything, it's nice to see another face that I recognize. You didn't have trouble finding this place."
It was less of a question and more of a statement. To k staying up for long periods was in her nature; she wasn't so much tired from a physical sense as more from the frustration of going through things she wasn't used to. But once she did get used to it well... this would be less of a problem.
"Anyways. I've got patrol routes for you to go over when you're on guard duty. You can pick your times, routes, assign your own routes whatever. But I'll need to know what you do pick so we can keep this place tight. We've got some civilians, some other contractors and such coming here. They'll be on a list up in your room. Figured you'd want one near the communication hub."

That tense, was she?
What Oathgard saw so far made enough sense - the typical reaction for someone bogged down by such paperwork. Even their 'watcher' could respect that these were just hoops that K had to jump through. Heck, even for the Angemon, this was quite the extensive list!
"My, aren't you popular." That comment wasn't said with a positive nor negative tone, a flat matter-of-fact tone, considering the size of the list. K, of course, seemed well aware of her position - it seemed like she was intent on making everyone who had put faith into this place proud. He simply gave a nod at that reference to a familiar face, and on seeing the patrol routes, started to look through them.
"I'm familiar enough with this sort of work - any of these will work fine, though I'll get something final to you once I have a good eye on the property. Honestly, though, that's not what I'm here to talk to you about, today." The tone shifted, the Angemon's voice a touch more serious, as he closed that folder shut, and looked at the Shutmon, square in the eye.
All he had to say was one thing:
"Island 8-C." His vision narrowed, under that visor: "It turns out your file isn't as thin as I'd hoped to see."

The shutmon turned the holographic display to watch the list scroll on by. Some were friends, some were as close as family, others she had met once or twice. Some she had just hired through contract or owed her favors and were willing to help her. A large chunk of them put their faith into her and were willing to just help. Her icy blue eyes flicked to the angemon as he made a comment referring to the list. She'd tap her finger quietly and sigh.
"I just want to give people hope again Oathgard."
The shutmon said simply; she wasn't really sure what else to say about it. There was much that she could say; she had to work through her friends, her family, her favors, and hire those that she couldn't. She used everything for this place. Made promises to people she could see, people she couldn't. There was so much to this place. One such promise was that of a home; that of safety. Things she could give.
"Good. Then I don't really need to explain it out to you too much."
The shutmon paused a little bit however when he said that he wasn't here to talk to her about this. She'd stare back at the angemon; she couldn't meet his eyes as they were hidden but that didn't stop her from guessing where they were simply. Then something she had hoped wouldn't surface did. There was not surprise on her face, not anger, not fear. Just a soft resignation. Leaning back she felt her cloak shift and her hands found themselves on the arm rests.
"I suppose it's not. What do you want to know?"
The shutmon was more surprised that they hadn't addressed this much earlier. That they hadn't sent someone after each member that had gone into that island. She could feel her core shiver a bit at the idea of them going after her husband. If they did that... well. She wasn't sure what she could do. So she simply resigned herself to talk at this point.

Interesting...
She didn't try to defend her actions - or even deny her presence there? The Shutmon's reaction didn't necessarily surprise Oathgard, but it was definitely one that he didn't expect. She simply gave a calm acknowledgement, asking just what he wanted to know on the topic. The angel, tapping his finger on the desk, considered that question.
"... I've followed your trail long enough to know that you aren't a fool." The Angemon led with that: "But assaulting a Luminas prison is something only a fool would think of. Once you've crossed that line, you're subject to our own laws and regulations - even the legal objections of Terminus and Whitewater don't extend to such an outright crime. So."
He gave a sigh: "Knowing that both of those are true, I simply have to ask: why?" Ah - did he not have that detail on his report? "Why would you and your husband go so far?"

Why should she bother to defend her actions? Why would she even deny her presence there? They knew and they would just simply pass judgement on a liar. The calm acknowledgement, the gentle question. She didn't so much fear the fact that she had been there or how she had been there. Just... she feared more for her husband than anything.
He spoke of how he knew she wasn't a fool, that he had been following her long enough to know that. She'd flick an ear quietly; looking somewhat tired. She'd clasp her hands and look to the floor. There were longer moments still and her ears flicked again and again. He lead with some strong stuff and asked even harder questions. She'd close her eyes and slowly sit up.
"I'm not a fool. I knew the repercussions of if we got caught. If we got found out. What could happen or what would happen. I don't fall under terminus, whitewater, or any real citizenship. No laws wouldn't protect me. Their influence wouldn't help me. Only my own. For all intensive purposes Oathgard I don't have a citizenship anywhere. So what do you do about that? I suppose you go with what you can."
There was small pause and an honest sigh before she spoke a simple two words.
"Why indeed."
Her eyes would shift from the desk and floor up to Oathgard. There was.. a strange sadness there for a few long moments and she'd eventually resign herself to leaning back in the chair.
"Because if I didn't go that far. I would of died. No rebirth. No second chance. A simple but pointless death."
She'd close her eyes and sigh.
"I had three cores in my chest. None of them were mine. We needed a fourth to break a loop. We had one option that required a slow build up and time I didn't have. So we looked elsewhere."
The shutmon rubbed her muzzle and again another sigh escaped her.
"Jesmon. Examon. GraceNovamon. I don't hold the former two forms because of some natural selection or anything. I hold them because of the fact that they were two Royal Knight cores. Locked in a data loop with a third core that instigated everything."
The shutmon rubbed her temple and stared at the Angemon.
"GraceNovamon told us about how to break the loop; thinking we'd go with her. I chose to go with Jesmon instead. A choice I do not regret; these symbols and.. well. Cloak are not for show either. Anyways. Once we learned of the island, once we learned of what was stationed there we took it. We went through the fight so that I could live. "
The shutmon stared up at the untested knight.
"GraceNovamon escaped because of what happened in the Dark area. Jesmon pieced my husk of a body together, code by code line. We used that core to stabilize me and slowly pull in the other two cores to form a proper core of mine. So the prisoner. This. Pride. Took upon itself into my bosom a pair of former royal knights. Mixing together to make something else entirely. A form untested by time, a being untested by time. "
The shutmon slowly stood, her icy eyes glowing quietly.
"She's still learning. She's still growing. Eventually once I cycle through her enough. There won't be a difference between her and me. And If Luminas finds to interrupt that, well. It's fine. I'll come back or I won't. But that's the thing Oathgard."
She'd clench her hands; looking down at them with a small smile.
"I get that chance. I don't just vanish. I get to help the world get back something it sorely needs. And if I fail, if I get lucky. My next of self will do the same. And the next. And the next."

Oathgard asked for an explanation.
He just wasn't sure how far K would go to explain it. Her first comment came with the most weight: that she knew what she was getting into, that she knew that her life was forfeit if they were ever caught - or possibly, even questioned. The only reasoning she could have given for this was a grand one...
... And a grand reason, she did give: to save her own life. The Angemon looked on, scanning each change of expression, hanging onto every word with his own, stoic tone. She was a strange creature, or at least she used to be - a simple 'average' of two cores and a frightening Digimon, and on their reasoning and efforts, that led to them claiming Pride. Claiming a former demon lord, to simply use as a base of a core for herself.
"Hmph... Dr. Mikemon is quite the frightening doctor if this is true... but considering the weight of your words, I have no reason to doubt what you are saying." K did all of this to ensure her own survival, even her own immortality. This process explained so much as well, how an average innkeeper turned to such a remarkable figure.
For several moments, he held a tone of silence.
"... You are very lucky that this Wisemon is a worse threat than you." He gave a sigh, shaking his head: "That spirit of Pride was there as a prisoner for his own nefariousness, but since I haven't sensed an ounce of the Lucemon's own power from you, I have to assume the process did more than we ever managed on our own. However, the totem had value beyond that. Your own existence, for example, was created on that value."
What did that mean for them, right now? "Our deal hasn't changed. After listening to all of this, well..." he sighed. "Its only going to add to the punishment for breaking the contract that you have no intent to break."

K knew what she was getting into explaining this. She knew the weight her words would have; that she could of spun any lie. Spun any tale and any trick in the book. but lying here, lying about what they did or why they did it would only lead to a poor end. They claimed it for themselves, for herself. It was... something that she would never forget and would never regret.
"It's true. Every word. There's no point in lying. Dr. Mikemon is quite litterally one of the best doctors in the digital world. One that is sorely needed."
The shutmon folded her arms and quietly stared at the Angemon as he spoke about how lucky she was. How that the wisemon was much of a worse threat than she was. She'd simply snort.
"He's a threat to everything. Plain and simple."
The shutmon shifted and stared quietly at the angemon; she'd slowly sigh and shake her head as he also admitted that he hadn't sensed a single ounce of the lucemon's own power. That it was... probably something else. The process of course had been painfully slow hadn't it? But incomplete. Perhaps with so much data from two other cores... Lucemon's was drowned out and forgotten.
"Tell me the value it had. To your people. Make me understand Oathgard. Don't dither around in words. Understand though, you have an ally. Regardless of whatever contract exists. Even without the contract; Luminas is a force I want not under me. Not against me. But with me. Even with the crimes I committed to them; based out of need. Why I don't argue it. Why I don't fight against these... charges."
The shutmon stretched and thought about it quietly staring at the Angemon for a little bit longer.
"Tell me Oathgard. The simple gift of being pardoned from all crimes I've committed against Luminas when I succeed. Begs me another question."
Her ears would flick and she'd run a small finger across the desk.
"When it's over. When he's dead. What next?"
The Shutmon leaned on the desk, her eyes staring quietly at the angemon.
"When he's dead. When the reapers are gone. When the spires have crumbled. When the orbs are back to resting. What. Next? When Silence sings to your city. When the threats are gone. Not because of just us. But because of those that stood together. What is Luminas going to do? I don't need an answer now. I don't want something half baked or half assed. But I need to know one simple thing."
There was a small distinct pause.
"Can we trust Luminas?"

"'Sorely needed' is a matter of opinion..."
The words were barely muttered, but the tone was clear. There the cat was, a genius and skilled doctor, wasting away his time with kids and their childish science club. What could they perform that this world's scientists hadn't done already? His own bias blinded him to any potential that group may have had.
Well, that was a thought for another day. Right now, K had several questions regarding the value of Pride's core. Considering his answer for the moment, Oathgard relented. "The power came in both its potential and its possession. For the former, it was possible to entirely power that island base - and several more - with Pride's data structure, without the core knowing we were even performing such a siphon. As for its possession, Pride was truly a leader of those in the shadow. Our possession of such a core provided a bit of assurance - who would want to be responsible for the death of their leader?"
That aside, K's next question provided a bit... naive. What was after Wisemon? What was after these threats? Could she trust Luminas?
"If you could trust us, would have you needed to establish the knights at all?"
His answer, despite the wording, was surprisingly calm. "I am but an agent assigned to this job, K - assigned to see it through, through either the execution of the Wisemon, or yourself. Our mission is still to protect the Digital World, but our methods will often differ."
He gave a pause, himself. "Even Luminas started like this: a few righteous souls, wanting to save the world from the threats around it. And from those thoughts, a nation banded together to uphold the morals of those precious few. It might not be the same..."
The angel gave a chuckle. "... But that may be a future for you. To have your name both held upright and used in vain, in the same conversation."

The shutmon's ear flicked and swiveled at the mutter. She could read into that more if she really wanted to but she felt like there was really no point in addressing it. He wouldn't know the lofty heights that humans and digimon that weren't attached to any major group could do. Their own restrictions different than that of any country and of any place. They would step in places none would dream of and take risks most wouldn't.
"So with his removal many a resource was also taken; both in the physical and mental sense. Hmm."
The question that followed suit was something that didn't catch the shutmon offguard. She'd simply lean against the table staring at Oathgard.
"Trust doesn't dictate the actions that lead up to this point. The knights were inevitably going to be organized, built and such. They weren't built for trust. They were built for Hope Oathgard."
She flicked her ears again and let out a small sigh.
"Of course. I know that. I didn't figure you to have the same methods as I or anyone we recruit; you were raised differently. In a different place."
The shutmon gave a distinct pause as the Angel spoke about how Luminas started. How that a few righteous few had been the rise of a nation; wanting to hold the morals of those few. Silence persisted as he continued. That something like luminas may be a future for them. The shutmon opened and closed her mouth thoughtfully and eventually took her seat again.
"...I am unaware of how luminas started, grew and became what it is. I somehow doubt that this... group will grow in that same regard or that my name will be used in such a way."
The shutmon gave a thoughtful pause and stared up at the angel; there was a small chuckle and the shutmon leaned back sighing sweetly.
"But let's not get ahead of ourselves Oathgard. If you could; put in a request for information regarding wisemon. I don't want originals I want copies. And if they're not willing to share long distance and require a more physical presence. I'm more than willing to jump through whatever hoops needed for it. For someone such as he a more extensive dossier is needed than a few locations and the paltry information that I personally have about his abilities. Which are only a distinct few. If we can also get information regarding allies of his; enemies of his that would also be appreciated. You're an agent assigned to see this through; but you've got connections and I'd be foolish not to use them or not to listen to advice you'd pass through to me."
The shutmon exhaled a little bit.
"I would appreciate any information you can get us regarding the D-reapers, Elemental orbs and Spires. Tell me what they need for it or what they want from me for something like that."
The shutmon placed her hands on the arm rests to the chair. There was a few long moments of her simply mulling over something.
"Luminas wouldn't go through all this effort and take the risks they have with someone like me if they weren't expecting a large pay off of sorts. I understand my contract but I can't help but shake the idea they may want more than just that."

The knights weren't built for trust, but for hope?
"Hmph. I pray those that join you see it the same way."
That aside, the Angemon would, once more, listen to the wolf. In particular, in regards to her request for information. She seemed to put a particular amount of weight in being part of the process to retrieve the documents - though Oathgard simply returned a sigh of his own. "It goes without saying that you are barred from requesting those records directly. Anything you need, I have the authority to provide via a copy. The vast documentation you require will take about a week to process."
His response was administrative, fitting of his Luminas tone. As for her last part?
"I cannot say if that is the case - I do not have such detail. All I do know is that this is your only option going forward. That it lines up with your current goal is only a happy coincidence. Now, if that is all," he would stand, "then I shall review these patrol routes, and return the best one I can manage."

"If they don't. That's fine. My ideals don't have to be others. Our mission still is the same."
The shutmon shifted in her seat and quietly rubbed her neck frowning just a little bit. She had expected being barred from the information as a whole; considering what happened while she was marked. She'd close her eyes and sigh shaking her head slightly.
"It makes sense to me considering what happened while I was... A week? Really? That's... rather surprising but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth."
Some old human saying; something that probably wouldn't make much sense to someone who had never left the digital world on it's own. She'd scratch her muzzle curiously and stare up at the angel as he stood. He didn't have the details of that? So his only vested interest was that contract and the wisemon's demise... It was something interesting to think about. That they would keep an agent of their own in the dark; or perhaps they didn't know themselves? Something to consider for sure.
"Understandable. That is all. For now. If I get any more information of those that are going to be coming onto the Island or staying in vander tower you'll be the first to be informed."
The shutmon swiped her hand on the table and the holographic display popped up again. She'd quietly pick a data pad, swiping it across the display so that the information was splayed out on a larger surface that she could pick and choose what to look at. She was going to have to get back into work faster than she'd like but there wasn't really stopping her from pouring over these documents and sending them to the right people. Cracking her neck she'd make one last statement to oathgard.
"Let me know if you need anything."

"Bureaucracy is bureaucracy. Whether you agree with them or not, it does take Luminas a while to move."
Out here, away from 'home', Oathgard could speak just a bit more openly about the faults of his homeland. Still, it seemed that the conversation was starting to wind down: K knew her position, and neither of them fully understood Luminas' intent in all of this. It didn't take long for K to get back to her records, that holographic document appearing right between them.
The Shutmon was going to be enormously busy over the next few days. The Angemon found himself staying for just a moment longer than he thought he would - enough to hear that last question.
"... Same to you."

"...No you misunderstand Oathgard I'm surpised that it would take so little time. When I was running my inn out of the eastern timberlands it would take months or years for me to get anything done even when I went to the larger cities."
She'd snort a little bit and run her hands along the holographic display, focusing in on several segments of the current document. Her icy blue eyes flicking between one or another. She was aware of just how busy she'd probably be, and she honestly didn't mind it. A faint lul of course would be something she'd appreciate.
She blinked a little bit and simply just nodded at what amounted to a rebound of her same question. So would she fall into the strange course of paperwork digital and physical.
