"Digimentals, huh?" Alan repeated. "Yeah, I've seen their power, alright, but while I was told about 'certain objects' you needed for this, I wasn't told what they were called, so, thank you."
Both Alan and Levi took off their hats when Royland began to glow with the intense light of Armor Digivolution, then used their hats to help shield their eyes. It had been nowhere near as dangerous as being in proximity to the first Armor Digivolution they had witnessed, but they preferred not to talk about that, unless it was in lighthearted jest. The human and dragon then put their hats back on and each took a few seconds to appreciate Royland's new form, with Alan wondering just where he might have heard that reference before.
"That's pretty impressive, huh, Alan?"
"..."
"Alan?"
"I think I have a vague memory... The Chronicles of Narnia? Did they ride the lion in that?"
"Alan."
"Oh, sorry, yeah, I'll get on."
With that, Alan lifted Levi up onto the lion's back, while Alan took a few steps backwards, jogged up to Royland, jumped and threw his leg in the air at the last second, swinging it around to the other side to mount him.
"Onwards! To the training grounds!" cheered Alan, before joking quietly to Levi, "Training grounds.... slow game, huh?"
Levi snickered. "Yeah, it took us weeks to get to the combat tutorial."

Kazuya was surprised that Alan had heard of the digimentals before, even if they did know their name. But to be honest where their name important ? For all Kazuya knows this name could have been coined by a weird bored middle aged man, but it sounds cool and rolls of the tongue so that is their name now. But come on why focus on what the object is called when we can focus on what is more important, what it can do. "Thats good, I have heard nasty rumors about towers that block normal evolutions so you need to be equipped with one as soon as possible if you are going to explore the digital world." Kazuya warned as he recalled the words of Colin, Luke and Bellamy. "But I am rushing things, lets just step back and learn the basics of combat first shall we ?"
Royland laughed but this time unlike his small voice as a spadamon, Iceliamon had a very deep voice, this coupled with his very toothy smile made this ferocius beast look as friendly as Royland really is. "Bingo bingo, bingo! You got Alan, that was a classic scene. I love watching human movies, some of them have this thing about them that is so loveable, well some of them anyways." Royland said as he remembered some of the movies that were...bad just plain bad, but no need to remember the bad movies and just enjoy the good ones.
While everyone was on top of Iceliamon, Alan and Levi made video game references, it took Kazuya a couple of seconds to get it. The man then chuckled a little, while Roy was more focused on taking everyone there safely without having any one fall of him, this was the first time he carries someone besides Kazuya so he wanted it to be perfect. "This is indeed a slow game, my first couple of levels were cutscense, dialogue and lots of exposition. Heck Roy skipped the tutorial because he is new game plus now apparently."
Moments later the group would reach the training grounds, the place was militaristic and grand, it was filled with a lot of training equipment and an open area. Roy remembered the days were he trained in the camp of his mercenary band of warriors, their training was much harsher than this place can provide, its not a bad thing since the lion won't push Levi too far, at least not today, but if Levi became his pupil he will help him reach levels of power that will be beyond what most people can handle. But today he will turn him into a competent warrior, the lion lowered his body as he waited for everyone to get off him. Once they did Royland will run off to talk with Dinohumon "oh yeah, he needs to ask for permission. Royland told me that last time I was here, I think the owner is a Dinohumon." Kazuya added in order to clarify what Roy is doing to Alan and Levi.
After a little while Royland rushed back to the group, now he is back to his spadamon form. With a big smile on his face the spadamon gestured for Levi to follow him "Alright let's begin are you ready Levi ?" Royland said excited to begin the training.

The environment of the training grounds was intimidating to the two travelers, especially to the one who would soon be fighting within said training grounds.
"I know you said 'training grounds,' but for some reason, I was picturing a nice establishment with some natural lighting, sliding doors, tatami... but yes, the training grounds being outdoors makes far more sense."
While everyone waited for Royland to return from asking Dinohumon for permission to spar, Alan leaned down to check in with his friend.
"How are you holding up, Levi? You still okay?"
In response to this, Levi looked at the ground, then shuffled a bit in place. "Hold on," he said, before launching into a series of impromptu warmup exercises. These "exercises" were less actual exercise than they were random series of repeated motions, such as jogging in place, rotating his shoulders, and tilting his head left and right. The Veemon hoped these would help reacclimate himself with movement in order to "maximize training efficiency," or whatever wording might be used. It was then that the two saw Royland approach as Spadamon.
"Do you need me to hold your hat?" asked Alan.
"Hmm... I think so. Thank you," replied Levi, as he handed his ivy cap to his partner for safe keeping. Alan raised his baseball cap, put the ivy cap on, then placed the baseball cap back on over it. He then raised a finger in front of his mouth, smiled, and whispered to Levi. "Shh... I'll just keep this under my hat for now." This roused a snicker from Levi. A silly, irrelevant joke that helped lighten the mood, nonetheless.
Royland then asked if Levi was ready to begin. Levi thought for a few seconds before responding.
"Hahaha... nope." He took a confident step forward. "But that's exactly why I want to do this."
Beat.
"That's a yes," affirmed Alan and Levi, simultaneously.

Kazuya could not help but chuckle at Alan's statement, this place was indeed a bit rough and to the point, while it was not exactly easy on the eyes this place provides the necessary tools for Roy to start his lesson. "Well hopefully you did not expect a cool dojo, and for me to teach you the ways of the samurai as I pass onto you a secret technique passed down from generations." Kazuya said as he chuckled softly, he found Alan's slight disappointed in the place a bit amusing.
The raven haired man watched as Levi started to warm up, his exercises were simple really, but that does not mean it can't be effective, but no matter how physically capable and ready you are, without mental fortitude you will lose any battle before it starts. But Kazuya had some expectations for Levi, so far every digimon he met has had some capacity for combat so why would Levi be any different ?
After everything was said and done, Roy smiled at Levi as the training was about to begin. "Alright I am glad you two are ready, great display of courage and unity is important for human-digimon partner relationship. But its not everything, I just pray that you are ready to back up your words with actions. without further delay lets begin our training." Royland then clenched his fist as he raised close to his chest, he jabbed the air three times in rabid succession to make sure he is ready. Once that was over he began to hop from one foot to the other.
Kazuya was suprised and confused, he knew his partner was not a brawler, in fact he had his sword on his back currently. And Royland's gameplan is to manipulate the fight in both the mid range and long range, always making sure that he gets close enough to use his powerful sword, but far enough so he won't engage in fist fights. So his stance right now is odd, at least it was until Kazuya realized what Roy might have been thinking.
"Alright, lets see if you can stop my onslaught Levi." Royland said as he made a rather quick dash in to close the distance between him and Levi, get really close to the impish drake. Royland then immediately cocked his right fist and threw a punch aimed at Levi's face, he eagerly anticipated the next couple of moves.

Levi's mind raced in hundreds of directions as the beginning of Royland's "training" approached.
Oh, uh, we're getting right into it, huh? Wait, wait, it's okay, it makes sense: he's seeing where I am right now intuition-wise so he can pick out problem areas, and then give me pointers, right? Right? Wait. Is he going to try to hurt me? Who am I kidding; of course he is. I'd never fight back otherwise, so if he's not going to try to hurt me, he's going to do a damn good job of pretending he will.
Levi assumed his approximation of a battle stance: he raised both his fists and pointed his left foot forward towards the Spadamon. Then, keeping his left foot firmly in place, he stepped back with his right foot, placing it slightly behind him and forming a ninety-degree angle with his feet. His left fist was raised in front of his left shoulder, leaving enough room above his elbow to send his right fist between his left shoulder and fist if necessary, though tangling his arms like that likely wouldn't be a good idea. His right arm and fist were horizontal at his right side, set slightly back so that a quick jab was ready to be used. Beyond this, all he could do was stare straight ahead at his opponent and teacher, a weary wariness in his eyes.
Look, I shouldn't take chances. Whether he plans to hit me or not, the goal is to not get hit, and to hit back. That's important, hit back. One of the few things Alan said he can gather about fighting from video games, and I'm sure it can apply here as much as in any game: most fights aren't won without attacking. A purely defensive stance is tactically suicidal unless you're really confident in your defenses. That said... ugh, I still feel stiff. He's got the right idea by hopping back and forth like that, but I-
"Pretend you're okay, Levi!" shouted Alan from behind. "It's like he said; it's a mental fight as well, and I've never fought anyone before, but it's a safe bet that if an opponent sees you looking all sickly like that, they won't waste time in thrashing you! So... smile or something, or, or, I know!" Alan began to fiddle with his digivice, but before long, took a glance at Royland before immediately losing every ounce of energy he had just had, and putting his digivice away.
"Oh, I'm..." he stuttered, "I'm interrupting. I-I should let the one who knows how to fight teach before I start mouthing off to, uh.. s... sorry." Alan sat down on the ground, burning red with embarrassment, even though nobody had even expressed any disapproval towards him. He whispered a final "I believe in you, Levi. You can do this." before looking on silently with concern.
Levi turned his head while remaining in-stance to look at his partner. Alan... he thought, please don't cry. I made a promise to you earlier today, and I'm going to keep it. I won't let either of us die. The Veemon turned his attention back to his sparring partner with newfound determination.
Ever.
When Royland made his first lunge, Levi's response was to keep his left arm and fist upright, and move them in a swift counter-clockwise circular motion in an attempt to swat Royland's punch. He did not yet have a feel for how strong the white lion was, so he hoped that even if he couldn't completely stop the motion, he'd be able to knock the swing slightly off track, so it wouldn't hit his face. As he did this, he propelled himself to his right side, putting his head down, being careful not to hit his head on Royland's armor with how close the two were, and attempting a counter by means of a right-handed uppercut to the Spadamon's unprotected groin region.

Kazuya tried to understand what Royland was thinking, the man was no fighter but he spend a lot of time with the spadamon who considers himself a seasoned fighter, so figuring the motives of Royland should not be an issue to him. After thinking stuff over rather quickly and the man came up with one reason that he believed was right. By fighting Levi using hand to hand combat, Royland can help understand him and teach better, using his sword will not only overwhelm Levi it will not help him since he does not fight use one handed blades.
Kazuya continued to analyze the battle, he began to stroke his chin. There was something that bothered him about Royland's movements, they were fast yes, but they will also a bit standard and less unpredictable, Kazuya opted to not question his partner now and let him do his thing. The man's golden stare shifted towards Alan who is a little jittery, as he panicked around. Kazuya felt bad for the little kid, as he could easily relate to him in this situation. "Alan calm down, I know this might be a bit overwhelming and scary but you have the stay calm for Levi's sake. Have you ever watched someone solve a puzzle and feel like as a watcher the solution is quite obvious to you, well think of this battle as something like that. So stay calm and see what you can do deduce from Royland's attacks."
Royland however was quite shocked by Levi, the dragon managed to parry his punch and follow up with an uppercut.
(Crap I have misjudged Levi, he is not a complete novice. To think he was able to parry me that efficiently, but this is far from over. Lets see what he does in response, and I think he is gonna punch the armor less part of my body. I can dodge in time.)
Royland said as he put all of the force on his legs to jump back and dodge Levi's punch, the follow through of the uppercut swiftly grazed Roy's face. If Roy was just a little slower he would have been damaged severely, this was both a testament to Levi's strength and also to show his lack of control.
(Woah! That is one strong punch, looks like I picked a gifted digimon to teach, with a bit of discipline he might turn into a fearsome individual. But he is still a novice. I gotta teach him where he went wrong.)
Royland then took a massive step forward the distance between him and Levi was regained, he stared into the eyes of and gave him a terrifying glare. He once again cocked his fist this time the amount of force and speed was easily greater than before, if this landed on Levi's chest it will do some damage. Royland realized this and not wanting to hurt his friend the spadamon opened his fist to change from a punch to a palm strike, he will still teach a lesson that way and not damage Levi too much, granted it lands in the first place.

Levi knew not to get cocky because he parried an attack. Royland had referred to his own plan of attack as an "onslaught," so naturally, he would be coming back for more immediately afterwards. The only question is: how? He finished his uppercut as Royland dodged, waiting until his movement reached the point where he was standing up once more to stop. To his dismay, he ended his punch with one foot slightly above the ground, forcing him to stumble into a more stable position. Luckily, this hadn't taken enough time for him to be attacked again, but that doesn't mean he had too much time left before it happened. Royland sped up back to him. Surprisingly, the Spadamon's glare only served to make him smile and stifle a laugh. He wasn't sure why. Something about such a dead serious expression being on a normally cheerful digimon, he supposed. Knowing another attack was being wound up out of the corner of his eye, Levi continued to stare Royland in the face as he decided to experiment. He wasn't sure just how much raw strength his opponent had, so he made an attempt to clamp his arms down onto the wrist of the arm that would try to hit him, with his right arm above, and his left hand below. This way, he hoped that he could at least somewhat lessen the force of the attack, attack himself to Royland's arm, and even possibly surprise him. However, Levi wasn't sure what his game plan was beyond this, and he was aware of this lack of preparation, so he knew all he could do was continue to try his best.
Meanwhile, Alan was in a significantly better mood than he was but a moment ago. Levi's first move had caught his attention, and now he watched intently for his next moves.
No way... he's... he's... he's...
"So cool..." he whispered to himself, newly infatuated with his partner.

As the battle continued Kazuya oda got silent, getting absorbed in the background and becoming nothing more than a spectator, analyzing both Royland and Levi's moves. Trying to see how much of his experience is useful in actual combat, so I guess this can be called training for him too in a sense.
Royland was surprised that his attack was stopped in a decisive manner, it was so close to land, had he not changed the attack from a punch to a palm strike it would have landed. Even then those micro seconds of delay were necessary for the safety of Levi, so he does not regret making that decision.
(Nice, this kid is good. His reaction speed is on point, he has enough physical strength. Actually judging from it, he could throw punch that is stronger than me in this form. But that aside, he is still making some mistakes. )
Royland then immediately without giving Levi room to even breathe, much less think about what is going to happen. He used his free arm to hit one of Levi's arms with a swift chop, loosening the grip. He then placed his leg behind Levi and pushed him in order to sweep him and push him to the ground, without causing too much damage. Aside from the arm of course because Roy hit hard.

The one thing Levi did have time to notice, was that Royland bent his fingers out at the last moment. Well, it was nice to be assured he was being looked out for, and it was also good to know that Royland was confident a real punch would cause some serious damage, or at least pain. Speaking of pain, his right arm felt as if he had been waving it about in his daily hyperactivity and accidentally hit the handle of a drawer, if the drawer had been made of hard metal armor. He flinched from the pain before having his legs knocked out from under him, causing him to rotate to the right around where he was grabbing Royland until he slid off and hit the ground with a thud. He wasted no time in attempting to roll away as swiftly as possible. After a few turns, he pushed himself off from the ground- ow, weak arm- to get back on his feet before he took a quick leap backwards and faced Royland again. He stood leaning slightly forward, right hand balled in to a fist and pointing straight down, as his left arm grasped the spot where he had been hit. He kept a smirk on his face, even if one of his eyes was moistening, as if beginning to form a tear that would never fall. The fight didn't end just because he had gotten hit, so he kept a close eye on Royland, hoping he could buy as much time as possible for his arm to recover, he attempted to speed up the process by making a circular motion with his shoulder as he had done before the fight, but...
Ow... jeez...
It was just then that Levi had an idea, one he had been considering for a while, based on a conversation he and Alan had had while watching animated shows in their first week as partners...
"But what's with all the shouting, huh?"
"Well, they... they do it a lot, yeah, but when you think about it, it'd probably help a lot in a real fight. You'd be surprised by how connected mindset is to everything else. A fake smile could make you happier. A medicine you think will work might work better. By the same logic, pretending to charge up like that, or steeling yourself to ignore pain could actually help for a temporary boost if you find yourself needing it."
"Yeah, yeah, I see where you're coming from..."
"Of course, I've never been in an actual fight so don't quote me on-"
Alan and Levi had watched a few fights in the digital world from a safe distance. The idea wasn't entirely unreasonable, as he'd seen some digimon pull this kind of stuff before.
Here goes nothing...
Levi took a deep breath, pulling both of his arms into an "X" formation in front of himself, and letting out a shout as he yanked them down by his sides.
"HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
Spectators would have sworn they caught a glimpse of a faint blue area as he completed the battle cry. Every part of the Veemon pulsed with energy. His breath felt somewhat hotter on himself as he looked around to see if anything had changed. He moved his right shoulder in a circle, and found that not only had the pain dulled to near nonexistence, but he was moving more easily than before, slicing smoothly through the air. He didn't know if this was only a temporary effect of saved-up energy from not fighting at all, or if he could call upon this whenever he pleased, but at least for the moment, he had willed himself to be stronger. He returned to a battle stance and returned Royland's intense glare from earlier.
BATTLE CRY - The next attack is twice as effective as it would normally be. The effect wears off if an attack is not called within the next two posts.

Royland watched as Levi tried to get up, it was quite impressive that Levi still possessed the desire to continue on with the spar. But I guess he had to have this drive to continue and be better if he wanted to get stronger and maybe one day surpass Roy himself. The spadamon then assumed a stance that was very similar to that of a flicker stance boxers use, as he bobbed his upper body back and forth, getting ready to test Levi with an even faster jab this time.
Levi then crossed his arms, when Royland assumed it was for defensive purposes the lion almost stopped the battle to point out how flawed a stance like that really is. But then out of nowhere the blue drake let out a fierce cry, and for a moment there Kazuya could have swore that he saw an aura cover Levi. This made Royland look at his blade contemplating using it, but ultimately deciding it is a little too early for it. Just a little more and he might actually draw it.
"This is more like it, show me what you are really capable of Levi."
The knight smiled getting more and more excited as this spar goes on, even though this battle started to train Levi. The lion couldn't help but enjoy it on a more cathartic levels, as he tried so hard to not get carried away and focus on training his new friend.
Royland then dashed forward, not getting quite as close as before, as he attempted to play it more safe than before. And with a quick whip like motion his right armed aimed to do a very quick jab at Levi's face, if it hit the attack will do very little amount of damage and mostly disorient the dragon more than hurting him.

With Royland making his third attack, Levi began to notice what he thought was a pattern: Royland appeared to start his attacks with his right hand. Of course, so did Levi, so he was unsure how much help that would be. He kept it in a corner of his mind that he shouldn't expect his opponent to always use the same hand to attack. Not even if they were to be wielding a weapon in only one hand. Nevertheless, he avoided the jab more by expecting it than by seeing it by taking a quick step to the right. He immediately followed this with a step back to the left, except this time, he leaned his head in the direction to lower it so he could duck under the arm if it was still there. As he emerged on the other side, he reached his arm of slightly towards the section of the Spadamon's arm closest to his shoulder, then made an attempt to hook his right arm around the other one and pull tightly to draw it closer, immobilizing it, or at the very least preventing it from attacking. Hopefully, this meant he was now far away enough from Royland's left arm to not be attacked for long enough to deliver a left hook with Levi's free arm to the back of Royland's head.

Royland was shocked by Levi's superior movement and his drive to adapt, not only did the small drake managed to dodge Royland's punch but he learned from his previous mistake and restricted Roy's other arm. This actually came as a surprise to the lion knight and was enough for Levi to land his first hit on Roy, it was a very impressive hit that hurt Royland.
(Damn I have underestimated Levi, ok now is the time to truly evaluate him. )
The lion then immediately broke off Levi's hold, and backflip away to gain some distance from the blue dragon. He then gave the Veemon a satisfied smile, turning towards Kazuya and the two exchanged a nod. Royland reached for the sword on his back and took out his sword, swinging it in the air before taking a very aggressive stance, lowering his body to the ground.
"Well well, looks like you are better than I thought. Alright no more I will fight you with my real style, now get ready for the final round levi." Royland issued his final warning to the young dragon, his sword started to glow with a powerful light before engulfing in blue flames. Royland then raised his sword and swung it at Levi shooting out a fast projectile traveling horizontally, the distance was more than enough for Levi to dodge, but maybe thats what Royland wanted...
BATTLE LOG :
Move used : Blaze of Triumph : Spadamon concetrates his flame on his sword, before shooting it from the blade as a very powerful and fast projectile. Dealing massive amount of damage. (1 post cooldown)

The final round!? I made it to the final round with guesswork!? More importantly, I got my teacher to draw his weapon with guesswork!? Where do I go from he-
"WOAH!"
Before he could finish his train of thought, Levi saw Royland's blaze approaching, made a quick, high jump off the ground with the leg strength he took pride in, and landed right where he had been standing before to complete the dodge, then returned to another sort of fighting stance. He had briefly considered jumping forward to attempt a drop kick, but he knew better than to commit to a wide arc of a jump towards a sword-wielding opponent who had been watching his movements the whole time. That would have been asking for some manner of injury. At least, it would have been if Royland bore any malicious intent whatsoever. Levi felt it was safe to assume he did not. Not that it mattered. Royland's punches and swings were rather convincing.
The Veemon's eyes flicked about, trying to examine as much of Royland's position and movements and possible, whether it would help him or not.
"My opponent draws a sword and the first thing he does is shoot me with it. Huh," he spoke aloud, hoping no more attacks would come as he spoke. He supposed attempting to quip was a bit of a dead giveaway that he had no ideas, but even so, he felt a bit better after saying it. Eventually, he settled on this: he would remain where he was, trying his hardest not to flinch. Sure, Royland now wielded a sword, but that didn't mean he had to attack with it. While it was the most obvious threat, it was not the only one. He resolved to try his hardest to look confident, but he couldn't hold the façade together. One of his determined eyes twitched, and the Veemon almost seemed to lose his balance for a second before taking a wobbly step backwards. He shook his head, then reset to the stance he held at the beginning of the match, before Royland had made a move: feet at a ninety-degree angle. Left fist forward, right fist back. Eyes dead ahead.

DAMN IT, I always forget that projectile thrown from max distance can be avoided by a safe neutral Jump. Guh why must I forget, whelp never mind then I still have the advantage. Time to test Levi for real this time.
Royland then charged his blade with blue flame energy once more, Royland closed his eyes for a second there before opening them once again. The spadamon sprinted towards Levi, his body was low to the ground as his speed was frightening. The Spadamon looked like he aimed to hurt Levi, the aura around him was dangerous.
"Hmm to think Roy is this serious, well Levi is a very strong Rookie then. I am impressed but what is the limit of his abilities ? Sadly this is not a thing we will be able to see today, but to train someone and help him be better. That must be a good feeling." The tall man whispered to himself, rubbing his chin with his index finger. Perhaps Roy's generosity made him rethink his self gain values.
Back to the fight Royland was now near Levi his approach was so determined that he was ready to block whatever Levi had to offer with his own body, in order to perform what was his ultimate attack as a Rookie. The mighty blade strike, naturally it would have been fatal but Roy used the blunt side of his sword, but the flame will still hurt Levi. The swing was low but blindingly fast, it was a move not a lot of digimon can manage to dodge in point blank range.
BATTLE LOG : The strike of Eternal Glory : easily's spadamon's strongest, Spadamon uses his speed to get close to his targets. He then gives them a glare that is similar to a mighty lion ready to bite its prey, he then does a very swift swordslash. This is not flashy but it does do internal damage, the move hits so hard that most Rookies are unable to move as effeciently after being hit by it. (2 post cooldown)

Crap! thought Levi as Royland took his swing. This time, Levi attempted to jump over Royland to dodge, and also to try and place himself behind the lion again. The pure speed was too much for him, and though he began to leap into the air, the strike connected with the side of his leg, just above his ankle. If only he had pulled both his legs up into a ball, he figured, he might have been able to dodge it, even if he would have had a harder time sticking the landing, but alas, one leg hung lower than the other, and it was struck. He fell on his side to the ground in front of Royland, Levi wanted to will himself to get up again, but his willpower was severely outmatched by the attention demanded of him by the pain in his leg. Alan winced on the sideline. Levi sharply sucked air in and released, outstretching an arm in a weak attempt to do something, anything, because a real fight wouldn't end when he was disabled. He knew that. He'd have to keep trying to do anything he could to prevent from being hit again. He knew that the whole purpose of this training was to practice in an environment where he could make mistakes, and appreciated it, knowing a real malicious opponent would not be so kind.
Levi looked up at Royland with a weak smirk, signaling that, while he was still trying to recover, he was having a great deal of trouble with it, and hoped Royland wasn't planning on hitting him again any time soon.
