"Quickly, now! Everybody this way!"
Not all was lost in the fire and chaos. It didn't take long for those who stayed behind to band together and help out with the evacuation of the forest. Several had already become heroes by lifting burning trees or tearing into fallen buildings to help those trapped within, but even beyond the physical heroics, several calm lines, led by an ultimate level Digimon, made their swift and efficient way out of the forest.
Unfortunately, not everyone could get out, but that didn't make them helpless. Though the sounds of combat echoed from all sides, the Wizardmon (X) leading this group stayed calm, leading his group into a relatively untouched thicket of the forest. On the outside, he constructed a transparent barrier, shimmering lightly in the light - a simple detection spell that would detect anyone coming through.
Inside? Well, things were understandably quiet. A resident Lillymon calmly moved to check on a group of Mushroomon and a few Floramon, the ultimate occasionally calling over towards a Tentomon to bring a small medical kit. In total, there were around twenty Digimon here - though only the Wizardmon, Lillymon, and a couple of Sunflowmon held a rank of Champion or higher.
For now, all was quiet...
"Sir," the Lillymon spoke up, "Are you sure we can hold here? It might be better if we try and make a break for it..."
"With this many, we'd just be drawing attention to ourselves. I'll hold them off if it comes to it... but right now, we just need to hold our position."
But for how long would that work?

This was it, the little evil bean has finally reached a potent level of power. No longer should he have to settle with pathetic yelling and dirty tricks, oh well maybe the tricks was still useful on second thought. Now where to start his master plan, the dark area? Nah too difficult, Terminus City? Too crowded and too many tamers! So where can you start then? Finally after a lot of pondering, yelling and getting hit by a plank he got an idea! The forest, there's nothing but trees there right? So it should be easy to claim it then.
Satisfied with his genius plan, the Devidramon flew to timberlands. Once in the forest he began yelling.
"I'm your new master prepare to bow before... Eh why are you running? I haven't done anything yet." Unfortunately for Devidramon, nobody at all paid any attention to him. Because an evacuation was in full progress. The Devidramon yelled angrily for attention but even then nobody noticed him.
"ARGH I haven't traveled all this way just to get ignored!"
Determined to seek out whoever was stealing his limelight, the Devidramon decided to fly against the mob of fleeing digimon. Fate would have it that this track lead him straight to a barrier of light.

Utter chaos. That's what this was. Whatever these Digimon were after, it wasn't worth the pain and suffering they were spreading to secure it. Toki dashed from tree to tree and kept his breathing to an absolute minimum. Discipline...control. Know no fear...he exhaled quietly and kept out of sight as he did his best to look for those straggling behind or trapped. He couldn't leave the Digimon alone in the current nightmare the forest had turned into.
Eventually he came across a crowd of Digimon fleeing and decided to follow them. He would come across a shimmering barrier with a Devidramon looming nearby. Inside the barrier was a group of Digimon who looked like they were trying to figure out how to proceed through this catastrophe. He approached the barrier, crouched down as he looked around for any sign of an enemy before softly speaking up "My name is Toki. I'm a Spirit User, and I'm here to help...what's the situation out here?" he asked.
While he was mentally prepared to do what it takes to help these Digimon, a lingering fear nagged at the back of his mind, but if he let that control his actions then he has already lost. He looked over at Devidramon "I don't know you, so I'm sorry if this seems demanding. We need all the help we can get out here. Something...terrible is going on out here and these Digimon need to be guarded here or escorted away."
After he said that, he looked out towards the barrier "Though if any of you have any ideas on how to proceed, let's hear them...though I don't think we have much time to think on it." he said. He wasn't used to this, but he had to keep calm and do his best to support these Digimon and help them feel safe.

Was the Devidramon being ignored, or was he just one of many things the denizens of the forest were running away from? Still, the troubled Digimon had unwittingly lured the Devidramon to their own hideout.
Naturally, once the barrier was punctured, the Wizadramon's attention was drawn in their direction. As Toki and the Devidramon made their appearance, the Lillymon had already taken a defensive posture, her flower cannon aimed squarely towards the demon's chest. "Oh, I have dealt with way too much today to deal with your shit - hm?"
"Now, now. This one's just an opportunist."
The Wizardmon's tone was calm and direct. Unlike some that cowered behind, there was no fear in the Wizardmon's voice, the sorcerer stepping forward towards Toki. He extended a handshake out towards the spirit wielder. "Unfortunately, what we know about the situation is pretty bare. From what we've seen, a few high-power Digimon have appeared and started something like a... 'wide area purge' of the forest, I guess? They've shown little interest in the civilians as it is... which is why sir winged dragon demon over there's probably not a part of it."
"And yet you're just going to let him stick around?"
"Sure, why not?" The Wizardmon shrugged. "What say you, Devidramon? I've got money, gold, time. Help these guys out and I'll make it worth your while."
As for the actual plan? "I'm stuck here, trying to keep the barrier established. What we need to do is secure a direct evacuation route, due south-east. I have word that they're starting to mount a good defense at the Trailmon Station in that direction. How's the situation look right outside?"

Strangely, the Devidramon did not seem to want to acknowledge the presence of Toki, while he seemly didn't hear Toki a brief groan in response to the introduction revealed that yes he did hear him. On the other hand, the Wizardmon was interesting enough to not only cause the Devidramon to stop by the barrier but the moment money was mentioned, he actually stopped and listened with a glee. Now this was a good offer, he was intending to face the rival who was apparently a dragon anyway but getting paid? That's even better and then he got an even better idea, if one dragon could cause such panic and destruction then it means whoever controls that dragon could demand anything. Devidramon grinned ominously and took out his hand. "You sir got yourself a deal" Like a sleazy used-car salesman he smiled and bowed out front, was his assistance really better than the rampaging dragon? Only time will tell. But for the time being, Devidramon was ready to join in on the Wizardmon's plans.

Toki glanced over at Devidramon and felt...nothing good from them. However, there were more important things to worry about than him. How were they going to get these Digimon out of here safely? "Okay, let's see what we have here...the situation's rough. Really rough. If we move we'll have to be prepared for anything. The southeast...we just have to assume it's not much better than the rest of the forest." he sighed a bit.
Though there still seemed to be an air of optimism "But it seems like we have a few strong Digimon here. I am Ultimate level myself, though I understand that we can't properly fight our way out with this many Digimon to escort. So let's think of what we can do to make this work. Let's start with abilities. Does anyone have any abilities that can obscure vision, lay traps, create distractions, or anything like that? I can move heavy objects with my Ultimate form, so I got that covered. What about secret passages? Old burrows or tunnels no longer used? Even if they're your own hiding spots, please...tell us. It could make a world of difference." he said. He hoped that stuff like this would be enough to get the group thinking about a plan of action.
"Whatever happens, I'll do my best to be there for all of you. Even with the chaos outside, we're still in this together. We have numbers...so believe in each other and we can get through this." he said in an attempt to keep spirits high "This will not go on forever...this will be your home again soon, I promise, but for now we have to survive. We have to push through."
He thought about other possible plans "The way I see it we have two options. We stay away from any sound of battle in the distance...or stay near battlefields. Hear me out. In the human world, at least in ancient times, people took advantage of a battlefield to escort civilians to safety, so that might work for us...however, who knows what kinds of abilities will be thrown out there. It could be a minefield for all we know. On the other hand, if we try to go through where it's quieter, we might end up walking into an ambush. There's no guaranteed scenario. What do you all think?" he asked. No matter what they did, it would be a gamble. Toki was no stranger to it, but that was only when his own safety was on the line. He never had to take a chance with an entire group.

"Glad to have you on our side."
A deal was made - the Wizardmon gave an amicable nod, like a businessman, not showing any fear to the Devidramon's tone at all. Begrudgingly, the Lillymon relented, pulling back her cannon as she gave an annoyed sigh. Right now, there were more pressing matters to discuss.
Like, for example, the spirit user's sudden barrage of questions. "Ultimate? Then where's your partner? And what do you mean that you're the ultimate?"
"Now, don't rush it, let's hear him out." The Wizardmon worked tirelessly to keep this high-tension group in line... but honestly, he was quite impressed by the level of detail that he went into. He wanted to consider the abilities of the camp, having them as active participants in the evacuation. "Quite the head on your shoulders, isn't it? My abilities largely lie in the support class. I can create several intangible copies of any Digimon here, but they disappear on contact and have no substance. And, as you've seen coming in, I can erect a static barrier to obscure data signals."
'Static', unfortunately meant that it wouldn't be useful on the move. "Well, nothing like that on my front..." the Lillymon sighed, though the Sunflowmon raised their hands. "We can throw exploding seeds - and the Mushroomon have their spores!"
Indeed, things were starting to click together! Though, at the thought of 'secret passages or tunnels', the group as a whole answered with silence.
"Maybe if we were protecting animal types, but the group here is largely plant-based. They wouldn't have had a reason to dig something like that."
Fair enough. The little call for confidence earned a murmur from the crowd, sounding somewhat more optimistic than before. The next bit, though... do they stick to battlefields or out in the wilds?
"Honestly, the second option doesn't sound too bad."
"What? Why would we run right into their arms!?"
"Now, now, calm down." The Wizardmon further explained: "The speed at which the attackers came in suggest they were trying to tear towards the north of the forest. In turn, that means they may be less likely to retrace their steps. If we go back through the area they've already beaten down, we might have a chance to slip away - and its not like they'd so quickly look in the same place immediately."
That seemed like a solid enough plan, but the sorcerer was short on time. "As much as we'd like to strategize, time is of the essence. Given your confidence in us, I'll let you take the head of this operation. We'll move at your signal."

Devidramon continued to show Toki as little respect as possible, forming a puppet with his finger and make it mimic Toki's speaking pattern all the while looking very inpatient. Words couldn't say how little interest he had in the speech. However whether he wanted to or not, the situation obligated him to respond with what kind of abilities he had to offer to distract and obscure vision or even lay traps. Devidramon giggled. "Well I can lend you a wig from my pawn shop, then we use you as maiden dragons love damsels." Devidramon spent a moment laughing at his own joke, in the meantime the other digimon got their turn to tell their abilities. Then he "woke up".
"Or I could release my smoke of darkness and engulf the area. It's not as entertaining but hey, I won't have to go home! The wig is still available if you want it." Devidramon allowed Toki to finish speaking.
"I got a brilliant idea, I'll say we stay near the battlefields. There's too many hiding places in the forest and I don't want to hit stupid trees. That's a waste of my power. And if I were to set one tree on fire then the whole forest will burn away fast. That's a waste of resources."

While listening to Devidramon speak in such a mocking tone was slightly exhausting, Toki was glad they seemed to be going along with the plan enough to explain some of their abilities to the group. He listened intently to everyone else and nodded his head "Yes...yes we can work with this. We can do this." he said and stood up. He felt a little nervous being put into this position of responsibility, but he steeled himself for the road ahead "Alright, everyone. I got some ideas here. But I'll talk as we go. Come on." he said as he started walking towards the south-east.
He looked around "So it seems staying near a battlefield and using that to cover our escape is what we've decided. We'll stay near the bushes and trees just so we have some cover and I know how to keep the enemy off our backs. Wizardmon, if we see enemies in the distance, create some illusions some distance away from us in a different direction. Then, Sunflowmon, is there any way you can throw or plant those seeds without them detonating for a short period of time? Like a mine. If you can, you can throw them under the illusions so when they go to check on them, they go off and create enough of a distraction for us to move on. Mushroomon can do the same thing with their spores. Then...let's see...hey." he looked over at Devidramon "I have an idea for that smoke. When we lay the trap, use your smoke and run in a different direction from us and the trap, then regroup when you're done. That can confuse throw them off our trail even more since they'll likely assume that's where we all went."
He was really hoping this would all click together. He continued his explanation "Then in between traps while everyone's recovering, if we come across trouble, Wizardmon can deploy a barrier to mask us for a small area...then we can do traps again afterwards. Keep it going in a cycle. We might have to get creative and swap positions and areas, but we'll figure that out when we have to."
He smiled at Lillymon "As for my partner? Well...my partner's a spirit. I'm a Spirit User, borrowing Digimon power to help fight. The reason I'm remaining as a human right now is because I don't have too many abilities that would help for traps or diversions...plus I'm smaller like this. I'll spirit evolve if things get rough or I can think of a way to use my abilities."

'We can work with this'.
Toki, it seemed, already had the head of a leader. Despite the situation, and despite his own fear, he didn't back down at the situation at hand - and more importantly, stuck solely to the positives. The Witchmon gave a small tip of his hat, as the group started to make their way south-east - Wizardmon directing the groups movements in the interim. "Sunflowmon, to the front. Lillymon, stay near the center, and keep your cannon at the ready."
"Yes, sir." She, along with the Wizardmon and the spirit wielder himself, would stick towards the middle of the group, the Mushroommon split in two, roughly equal groups on each side, the Tentomon buzzing at the rear. Toki still spoke plans, and the Sunflowmon answered: "Not like a mine, but they do only explode on impact. So they won't be that noticeable in midair?"
Otherwise, the right-side plant gave a nod. The Wizardmon, raising his staff to maintain his detection spell, gave a nod towards the Devidramon. "Then you're our vanguard. Maintain to the front of the group, and push through for any clearing. If you see a forest invader, try and overwhelm them straight away - the sound of your combat will be an alert to us, and if you get lucky, you might pick off a fighter or two easily enough."
The plan was coming together simple enough - stick to the battlefield clearings, and simply try and push through. The Lillymon, however, didn't seem to relieved to learn that their 'leader' was a spirit wielder. "Tch... I'll see what you do with that borrowed power when it comes down to it, I guess." Well, it didn't help with the rumors spreading out about some of the forest assailants being spirit users themselves.
They were about to approach that first clearing - however, the Wizardmon quickly issued an order to 'stop'. Off in the distance, the sound of a rattling chain - only a few hundred feet away, straight in front of them - faintly filtered through the sounds of combat. The Lillymon, carefully, peered through the foliage...
A Phantomon? Its presence clearly wasn't native to the forest, the ghastly reaper floating a few feet above the charred grass, deftly poking its sickle into the dirt. "Mmhmm... seems a few were burnt out here as well... I wonder..."
If nothing else, his attention seemed occupied!

For some reason the Devidramon had very little against being told by Toki to use the smoke, was he coming along or was there something he hadn't mentioned? "Yeees yes, whatever." Devidramon said to Toki dismissively while waving him away. Because right now he'd rather listen to the Wizardmon and by stark contrast he looked attentive and even nodded, he looked especially happy about hearing the word vanguard being used to address himself. He overhead the conversation with Toki and Lillymon, pathetic. To think that Toki would need supporting wheels just to fend for himself, no Devidramon didn't need a digidevice just to even the field, speaking of which now was probably an appropriate time to assume the form capable of fighting and for that matter release the gas he had mentioned. "Devidramon dark digivole to"
And so he started to laugh, the laughter got gradually louder and the more he laughed the more he glowed purple and black smoke lead out. And then he started to transform larger and larger and eventually...
"Mephistomon!"
As per the agreement, he flew up front and followed the group until they spotted a Phantomon who clearly wasn't a part of the forest critter. He lifted his palm up, the only thing he needed now was the signal to launch an ambush. Compared to the Devidramon, Mephistomon has less room for jokes but was all to eager to fight this Phantomon right off the bat.

He heard the tone in Lillymon's voice. Borrowed power...Toki actually smiled a bit at that "I'll do my best if it comes down to it. In this situation I hope I won't have to." he said. His top priority right now was to get the Digimon to safety. He had heard it all before, anyway. Digimon called him a faker. A pretender. It bothered him at first but now he doesn't care. He is who he is. Whether or not the abilities are 'borrowed' is irrelevant. If he helps others with them, then that's what matters. He looked at the Sunflowmon "With everything going on, I'm sure it would take them a good moment before realizing where the attacks came from, so you're good."
Toki raised a hand towards the now Digivolved Mephistomon "Wait...let's not draw attention to ourselves. They're distracted by something else...by what, I'm not sure...something about burnt grass, but that's not important right now...what is important is that they don't seem to be paying attention to anything else around them. The further we can get without resorting to combat, sneak attack or otherwise, the better our odds of getting through unseen. We'll go with the decoy plan if there's a patrol actually seeking us out. For now, just try to push through without being seen." he said. He took in the surroundings "Wizardmon, if you think it's necessary, cast your barrier between here and those trees over there." he said as he pointed across the clearing towards another set of trees and bushes. "Alright, I'm going through." He took light, yet quick steps from one tree to the next and gave the signal whenever Phantomon would have its back turned.
His heart was pounding. He was nervous about being seen, but even if they had the element of surprise, a fight they can avoid is a fight that doesn't cause any noise. The plan was more for pushing through a checkpoint or a group, not a lone digimon. Please work...if it didn't, he'd be prepared, but he just prayed for the Digimons' sake.

The Mephistomon preferred to follow his wallet then any code of honor, then?
Well, fine by the Wizardmon. So long as the demon type wasn't actively against them, he was at least an intimidating mantle for this crew - and to some, more trustworthy than the mere spirit wielder in their presence. Toki's confidence was enough to at least make the Lillymon not press the issue, the ultimate merely giving a huff as she slipped a bit further up into the group.
Of course, Toki had a point - even making a sudden Digivolution like that might cause a spike of power that drew the enemy to their location! Knowing the Mephistomon's mannerism at this point, the Wizardmon bolstered Toki's point: "Unfortunately, we don't really have the power in this group to simply take on all the problems here. Though if a few do catch onto you, maybe you can simply head off that group and try and create some distance for yourself."
Solve two problems at once! Fortunately - or perhaps not - it didn't end up that way, the Mephistomon now leading them through a quiet section of the forest. But it seemed they had a plan: dart from tree to tree, and try to slip around this single guard.
... Which might have been more feasible if they were trying to sneak one or two in, not twenty! The Wizardmon kept his barrier on standby, the sorcerer taking the lead as a few of the smaller Digimon would follow along. Three Mushroommon and the Lillymon would safely cut through the battlefield - before the Phantomon would take notice.
A wide swing of its scythe would shoot forth an arc of sharp flame, slicing cleanly between two trees - just as the Tentomon managed to slip into the next line of cover!
"Oho? And what do we have here?" The Phantomon gave a chuckle. "A few more recruits for the cause?"

That Phantomon didn't look tough at all oh how it annoyed Mephistomon that his golden opportunity for an ambush was ruined by the presence of a human. If he was the nominal leader of the party they would all have been attacking that thing by now, but now that element of surprise was gone. What's worse was that Toki's decoy plan had conveniently placed that human in a position where calling him out would work against the plan. Well at least the plan had placed Mephistomon himself on the battlefield which allowed him to take out his annoyance on the Phantomon as long as he steal all the attention from the forest digimon. And lo and behold the fight was deteriorating before it even started, first it turned into a "who has the loudest most obnoxious laugh?-contest and Mephistomon made a good attempt to win that one... In the most hammy way imaginable. Mephistomon completely failed to hear Phantomon out when asking about recruits. "You call that a scythe? That's the funniest joke I have heard in years." Mephistomon's hand was smoking and glowing purple as he filled them with dark energy, he then clapped his palm together in front of him fusing the energy together, when he did so the energy started sculpting itself into the upside down shape of the letter L. Then the mass took a more refined shape and eventually became a scythe. As amazing as it was to watch dark energy being sculpted perhaps it was an even better use of everyone's else's time to sneak away during the cinematic. And let the dark digimon compare sizes.
"This is a scythe!"
Father death: Gulfmon claps his hands together as a scythe of pure dark energy forms in his hands. Gulfmon can only have one scythe at the time.

Toki winced as the Phantomon spotted one of the last digimon to pass through. This could be bad...very bad. However, Mephistomon approached and attempted to provoke Phantomon. This was a golden opportunity, but could Toki take it? Was Toki doing well as a leader? Would it have been better to attack them immediately? No. He can't start thinking like that now. He had a duty to fulfill. These digimon needed him now more than ever. He looked over at Mephistomon and nodded slightly. They seemed to be of equal strength. If Toki spirit evolved now, it would just draw more attention to this area and leave the group at the mercy of whatever would show up as a result. They had to keep moving, even if it meant going on ahead without Mephistomon for the time being.
Once Mephistomon started a dramatic ability to summon a weapon, that was the time to move. He gestured for the group to follow his lead and continue moving through the forest. Hopefully it would work and Phantomon would keep their attention on Mephistomon. He talked softly when he was next to Wizardmon "I think this is the best course of action...the safety of these Digimon takes top priority." he said. He seemed more determined. That initial hesitance to lead was long gone. He would adjust and adapt the best he could.
He would move back towards the Mushroomon and Sunflowmon as they walked "With Mephistomon fighting, we've lost the smoke screen. Are you guys confident in your aim? Because we'll have to get creative. If we come across a patrol that needs to be distracted, once Wizardmon puts up the decoys, lob your shots at an arc to delay the detonation. It'll give us more time to move and make it more difficult for them to figure out where the shots came from. Okay?" he smiled at them and hoped to instill confidence in the group. They all had to work together to get out of this. Still, he looked behind him to make sure Mephistomon's tactic worked. Whatever Phantomon wanted with these digimon, Toki could not let it happen. From here on he would keep the number of digimon in mind. Sneaking large groups was incredibly difficult without a proper plan, something he hoped he had come up with.
