Oh, c'mon, what was this? An action and a ritual to summon some sort of ethereal weapon?
This Mephistomon was full of openings, openings that the Phantomon simply couldn't ignore. As the demon began his own 'summoning', the specter already made a move to counter, spinning the ball on the edge of his chain in a tight circle, before swinging it out as a flail, aimed right for the Mephistomon's side. Mid-flight, that small metal ball would become surrounded with fierce dark energy, a practical giant spiked ball on the end of that chain, aimed to hit the taller demon in a large sweeping motion!
"Quality over quantity, my dear Mephistomon!"
At the very least, however... ... Mephistomon had completely drawn the attention of the Phantomon away from the group! Behind the scenes, the rest of the group had largely abandoned trying to subtly move from tree to tree, moving on a sprint to follow Toki's orders. The Wizardmon gave a nod to the impromptu group leader, the Sunflowmon giving a nod. "Its the tools we've had all our lives, we'll be able to use them-"
"Look alive, Toki."
As they would come to another clearing, Wizardmon would motion for the group to stop. Here, well, there wasn't a second adversary standing in their way - but the state of the flattened ground was clearly different. Even at a glance, one could see several glowing runic impressions on the ground, either red or purple in color - and surely, there were several more hidden in the brush.
Whatever they did, Wizardmon didn't want to openly test. The Sunflowmon was the one to respond:
"Landmines..."
Phantomon uses 'Diabolic Star'!

Why yes it was, after several bad experiences including a fallout in the park, Mephistomon has finally came up with a workaround for how others always try to shoot him.
And the best part was now the mission actually encouraged the use of great dramatic shows as it meant getting every assets civilians out of the way. One clue would be that Mephistomon didn't look surprised by the attack, not at all. But lo and behold! When the large metal ball chained to a smaller ball? Reached the demon he catched fire and disappeared into nothingness at the blink of an eye. What a paper tiger, one single hit and he disappeared from Phantomon's sight, but if someone such as Toki was to watch the battle, a split-second later Mephistomon had somehow placed himself right behind Phantomon and before anyone had any chance to react, Mephistomon swung his dark energy scythe with the intent of cutting Phantomon in half through the spine.

This was...complicated. A minefield was before them and it looked like there was no reasonable way across other than through it. He thought about it for a moment. Sunflowmon and Tentomon can fly...maybe if they carried them across the field...no, if would be a catastrophe for everyone involved if they were anticipating that and forced them into the field. There had to be an approach that would make it simpler to cross.
A slight smile crossed his lips "Looks like we're not crossing that field with those mines there. So..." he pulled out his Digivice "We're going to set them off. I hopefully have a way of dealing with these mines, and I can do it with my Armor Champion form so I can avoid releasing too much energy. Here's the plan. I'm going to set off some of these mines and if enemies come to investigate..." he pointed at Wizardmon "Make illusions of injured Digimon to make it seem more plausible. That will hopefully draw them closer or at least close enough." then he pointed at the Mushroomon "If their eyes are visible, throw your spores at their eyes to disorient them." then finally at Sunflowmon and Lillymon "Use your attacks to try and stagger them towards the rest of the mines. They'll clear the rest for us if all goes according to plan. With any luck, the enemy will end up incapacitated and the way will be cleared. It's a bit...intense, but it's the best plan I got."
He created a single line of data around his hand and brought it to his digivice. Hopefully he was right and Armor Champions don't release that much energy to track upon digivolution "Spirit Evolution...!" he floated above slightly, data circling around him as he forms into his Armor Champion form "Gargomon." the gun-armed Digimon landed and looked towards the field, and towards the brush before he planted his arms against the ground "Ready everyone...? Step back and stay hidden. Let's show them what we can do." he said. He took a deep breath and the guns around his arms revved up before thumping into the ground "Tremor Rounds...!" a wave of energy traveled across parts of the field and rippled along the surface. The wave rumbled over several of the mines ahead. Toki swiftly rushed behind a tree to try and get cover before anything happened. Once more he was betting a lot on a plan working, but this was the best plan he had for this situation.

Well, out of eyesight, maybe.
But c'mon, where else was a Mephistomon going to show up but in the most opportune place to attack? Though the demon might have said 'magic before might', the Phantomon did manage to respond, raising the pole of its scythe to directly clash with the blade of the demon's conjured weapon. This had the effect of pushing the Phantomon away, like a ball off a tee-ball set, but he soon managed to catch himself in midair with a dark cackle.
"I mean, if that's how you want to play!" The Phantomon raised his palm not even a moment after, a dark aura swirling fiercely below the Mephistomon, quickly spelling out 'death', in Digital Script', in a large, glowing purple mark. And if the demon was caught in its light, those same letters would start to take hold, swirling right up around the demon's legs.
If the bull wanted a fight with enchantment, the Phantomon was willing to oblige! If any had stuck around, perhaps they may have drawn a correlation between the Phantomon's attack and the marks on the ground before the group - but, alas, they had to work with what they had to work with.
The individual orders that Toki gave were easy enough to follow: create clones if need be, and attack at range if any sort of enemy did manage to show up. "Cannon at the ready, then."
"Mm."
"At your lead."
Orders understood, the group watched in light awe as the human took a far shorter - but far more powerful - form as that of a Gargomon. It wasn't the most impressive form, but that was hardly Toki's intent - the vibration would shoot out, the rest of the group staying hidden as the gunner triggered the mines at a distance.
Had they been simple explosives, this would have been cut and dry. However, those mines caught in the vibration pulsed brightly at once - powerful, ethereal chains whipping out of the five closest, intent on lashing out and catching the Gargomon as they tried to make their retreat!
"Tch!" The Lillymon had a clear shot, two of the chains reflected with one blast, and the Sunflowmon managed to bury a third with a well-timed seed - which left two more for the spirit wielder to deal with on his own!

As of now the fight was completely meaningless, because in hindsight Mephistomon has already won. Toki and the forest digimon should by now be away from the Phantomon. And if Phantomon was to tattle? Who cares, Mephistomon wanted to face the dragon so having someone unwittingly becoming a messenger would only ensure that the rest of this adventure won't be boring. Now all that was left to do was to exit the stage on a high note, but first he had to deal with an odd attack. Large digiscript, spelling out "Death" fell from the sky. The best Mephistomon could do to minimize damage was to squeeze tightly in the center of the letter AKA E even then he was far too wide a fellow to not get hit by the corners. He felt fine so far, little did he notice same digiscript had appeared on his legs. Well time to leave before he wastes all his resources on some random henchman. "That was too cheap" Mephistomon then opened his loud mouth and blew out what turned into a huge black cloud and waved his wings to direct said cloud towards Phantomon. Once convinced that he was no longer visible for Phantomon, he will then try fleeting the area by flying fast close to the ground in the direction Toki went. Now remember that there were things Mephistomon didn't mention? One of these things was that while his gas worked exactly as advertised, it was not just a smokescreen it was in fact a weapon, an acid that immediately killed the wast surviving plants in the area, not that anyone could see it right now. Mephistomon was betting on Phantomon assumed this was just a distraction gas with no other purpose than blocking the view.
Despite attempts to minimize damage, Mephistomon was still hit.Mephistomon used "dark cloud"

Toki grit his teeth as the chains wrapped around his body, but the quick thinking of his allies made short work of three of the chains. Still, there were two left latching onto him and he did not want to figure out of these things had any debilitating effects to them. He aimed his weapons at the chains...he had just enough firepower to take care of both "Gargo Bullets, Overheat!" the guns spun up and fired rounds into both chains with enough ammunition to shatter both of them. And with that, Toki was free. He stood up and stretched "Well that didn't go as expected...thanks, guys..." he wiped his brow.
He turned around, then back at the field before he sighed "Okay, looks like we're not getting out of here so easily. I'm sorry for leading you guys in circles, but the other Digimon was right from the start I think. That Phantomon...I hope I'm right, but that Phantomon is in charge of this area. I just spirit evolved, made several loud noises, and triggered several traps. But...I hear nothing coming after us. Either they're very quiet and biding their time, or the enemy left this area to Phantomon alone. Good news is, he's one target. Bad news, they entrusted this place to him for a reason. Everyone...I've been cautious because I was scared you would all get hurt if I didn't. Now I see...that it was disrespectful of me to do so. We might be escaping, but that doesn't mean you're all defenseless. You're all strong and brave, forced into a situation no one ever wants to find themselves in...but together we can get out of here."
He heard something in the distance rapidly approaching from the direction of the fight "...Find a place to stay out of sight. Avoid any mines...but those of you who want to fight...find places away from those who can't fight and stay hidden. When Mephistomon and I attack, add to the assault with your own abilities. Keep him guessing where you're coming from and don't stay in one place for too long. Now..." he concentrated and his data began to shift "Slide Evolution...Lagosmon!" Toki became a large rabbit-like Digimon, its brown-furred visage looking noble and stalwart "...let's show them what happens when they mess with your home. We may have to leave this place behind, but it isn't forever. Let's make it as difficult for them as possible on our way out."

What, fog? Like that would even slow the Phantomon down!
"Like I'm letting someone I've marked so easily get away!" The Phantomon chuckled, readying his scythe. Even as that gas approached, the Phantomon had little concern, simply giving a sideways slice of his scythe towards the base of the fog. It was the same as his first attack, a sharp blade of flame, but used for a different purpose: convection. Suddenly met with a hot span of gas underneath, the entire cloud quickly billowed upward, correcting the Phantomon's visibility as he simply rushed after the Mephistomon!
"C'mon, show me how fun you can be!" If it was Mephistomon's intent to stall and outrun the Phantomon before reaching the group, that would greatly backfire. Toki would manage to free himself from the chains, but it came at a cost, as the entire woods might have known their position at this point.
Still, Toki calmly kept his cool, and revised his directions: ambush the Phantomon. It didn't take long for the Wizardmon to spin through the words of that order: "Lillymon, take a sniper's position in the canopy. Sunflowmon, you two stay nearby. I'll hide close on point as well. Everyone else, double the distance, but keep an eye on the center - we may need to rush an ambush at the end."
"Putting a lot of faith in him, are we?" Tch... not like it mattered. The Lillymon took flight, hiding up in the thick of the canopy, as the Sunflowmon blended into the foliage. The Wizardmon took a different approach, simply standing next to Toki, his appearance becoming transparent with a flick of his hat - his still visible shadow blending right in with Toki's own.
"Be ready. Its a specter type - he'll be tricky to hit, but he won't be able to sustain too much damage if you get a good blow in."
At that? Well, the first figure they'd see break through would be the Mephistomon, a good twenty feet in front of Toki. The Phantomon, well, he'd be here soon enough!

In a near distance, Mephistomon could hear chains shackling. This was a good sign that Toki and the forest digimon were ready to fight. Because right now the Phantomon was chasing after him, he glanced around mid-flight and followed the sound. It was easy for Mephistomon to spot the upcoming ambush since he knew whom to look after, a shadow there a humanoid shadow over there, now just to buy some time and to show that specter how fun he can be. Half-ways there (10 miles from Toki) he tossed his own dark energy scythe after Phantomon, making sure that it would spin with the blade in dangerous proximity to Phantomon.[/div] "Oh I can be real fun, my weapons are expendable so do me a favor and drop dead." Phantomon was most likely to dodge the scythe but at least he couldn't wield it since it was made of dark energy, true to his brag he had plenty of dark energy to spare. Knowing this he used the distraction his scythe would cause to lure Phantomon into the clearing. He didn't have to worry about the landmines since he was airborne at the moment. Then near the center he stopped to face Phantomon. Mephistomon planned to join in with Toki, dark energy flowed in his right hand into a sphere. He wanted to time it so that when Toki attacked, a beam of dark energy would shoot out from his right palm towards Phantomon. Mephistomon tossed his dark energy scythe in-between regrouping with TokiDuring Toki's interception of Phantomon, Mephistomon will attack with Shadow beam in conjunction with Toki

Toki kept a calm and focused mind. He knew time was of the essence and that Phantomon had to be taken out as soon as possible. This meant not giving them a chance to breathe or plan, as that was clearly what this Digimon was skilled at. He could do this. They all could do this if they coordinated well. He smiled softly as the other Digimon took their positions, ready to contribute to the battle.
Once he saw Mephistomon dash forward from the trees, he listened closely to any noises coming from behind him. If he was being pursued that quickly, he had a plan to cause some early lingering damage. Toki had a reason to believe Phantomon didn't know about him in particular and definitely not about his Beast Spirit, so hopefully that would aid in the ambush. He counted to himself. One...he raised his fist into the air. Two...he slammed his fist into the ground. Three..."Stalagmite Fortress!" he called out as earthen spikes started to shoot up from the ground near the trees. They pierced between the foliage and gaps between trees at varying heights. It was Toki's hope that Phantomon would be so focused on chasing Mephistomon that it would fly right into the suddenly appearing spikes. If they did, not only would it cause a significant amount of damage from the outset, but they would suffer from a bleed effect for some time afterwards.
Toki stood back up and brushed off his hands. He took a deep breathe and exhaled to keep himself steady of mind before he assumed a combat stance. He was ready "Looks like we're doing this your way, big guy...don't give him a chance to come up with any sort of plan." he said to Mephistomon. He wanted to apologize for not allowing him to fight sooner, but now wasn't the time for that. Toki had just now taken advantage of the element of surprise they hopefully had. With any luck, they wouldn't see his attack or the other Digimon attacks coming.
----------
Toki begins battle by using his ability Stalagmite Fortress around the area Mephistomon came from.
Stalagmite Fortress: Upon placing their palms on the ground, an area of their choosing erupts in a barrage of earthen spikes. Enemies caught will be damaged and suffer bleed damage for 2 turns (2 turn cooldown.)

"Being dead ain't all that bad! Why don't you join me?"
Was this his attempt at witty banter? As the Phantomon was the pursuer in this fun little chase, it indeed took little effort to avoid that scythe - a mere flick to his side as he barely lost any momentum. Heck, he was easily gaining distance through the woods, slipping around the trees like an agile specter. It wouldn't take long for him to catch up... "Any moment now..."
The Wizardmon counted down in his head, right alongside the Lagosmon. Heck, everyone here seemed to wait on baited breath - and just as that scythe wielder came into view? Well, it wasn't just two targets firing down on him!
"Flower Cannon!"
"Nature's Barrage!"
"Greater Impact!"
"What the - tch!" Like it or not, he was caught! Pinned down by that practical circle of spikes, the Phantomon found himself caught by the cloak - his form shifting somewhat by the Wizardmon's enchantment, before being buffeted by the combined efforts of the four firing Digimon! He grit his teeth, just about ready to howl in pain...
"Grr... THAT'S IT!"
There was no flash of light, no flare - just a single swing of his right hand, as he pulled back his cloak. Regardless, his new form appeared right in their midst...
... And with it, the implanted runes on the Mephistomon's legs sparked a brilliant violet. That didn't matter to him, though: one swing of his scythe was all it took to cut through that stone wall, the Phantomon's form attempting to skirt right up to that troublesome Lagosmon. Should he get in range, that troublesom scythe would be poised to try and rip him in half -
Well, no, that's not what this scythe did. If it struck, Lagosmon's physical form wouldn't take any damage, but it would be quite the out-of-body experience:
"Ghost Reaper!"
Phantomon is heavily damaged by the combined assault. In desperation, he kicks up to mega level.
The runes on Mephistomon's legs are now glowing. (2/3)
MetalPhantomon uses Ghost Reaper, bypassing physical defenses to attack at Toki's spirit directly!

Mephistomon's improvised strategy turned out to be a indisputable success, now Toki could see with his own eyes how effective, albeit underhanded and ruthless, surprise attacks and ambushes can be. On a lesser note, Phantomon had set himself up for the perfect punchline. "What the - tch!" Phantomon said.
"You see, buddy? Ain't I hilarious?" Mephistomon just had to bring up how Phantomon a moment ago had told him to show "how fun he can be". Apparently, this was Mephistomon's answer. It also helped Mephistomon to know that his teleportation ability was more or less ready to go again in the event Phantomon decided not to tolerate being humiliated so thoroughly. Toki had just came up to Mephistomon about how they're doing his way now and that they shouldn't let Phantomon do any funny business... While Phantomon digivolved to mega.
"Why thank you, but I can't stop... that from happening." Mephistomon said indicating MetalPhantomon sudden cutting through the stone wall like melted butter. But he could do something else now that MetalPhantomon was only focused on Toki and had a large red cape. While MetalPhantomon was attacking Toki, Mephistomon made a green fireball appear in his hand and proceeded to hurl it after MetalPhantomon's back with the intention of setting the cape on fire. Mega or not, this type of flame won't be put out very easily but strange as it sounded the fire would disappear immediately if it was to hit a teammate.
Mephistomon the comedian threw a ball of hellfire after MetalPhantomon aiming for his back and the cape.
Mephistomon has no intention of causing friendly fire (no pun intended) and will negate the fire if it would happen.
Cooldown: Hell fire (0/2)
Duration: Dark cloud (2/4)
(Actual) Hell Fire: Throws a large green fireball. The flames burns on any surface but does not spread. The flames can only be extinguished by a holy attack or if Gulfmon decides so. (cooldown 2 posts) If Gulfmon is absent or knocked out, the fire is also extinguished.

Toki looked on with an eerily calm expression as Phantomon digivolved into MetalPhantomon. Mega stage...alright. That didn't change the fact that there were those that needed Toki's help, so he stood his ground without even flinching at the more powerful Digimon's presence. MetalPhantomon was angry. Good. Anger leads to mistakes. Anger leads to desperation. Exactly the kind of thing Toki needed to take advantage of in order to get more hits on them.
As MetalPhantomon rushed at him with that scythe, Toki didn't back away or even have a look of fear at the ominous attack being swung towards him. They were swinging with such force...at the last possible moment, Toki would attempt to leap up over the scythe's arc. He did a single front somersault in the air while tucking his legs close to his body. Once more he waited for a moment before executing an attack. He would allow Mephistomon's attack to go through below him before kicking his legs downwards with bone crushing force "Terra Kick!" The attack, along with dealing more damage, would hopefully slam MetalPhantomon into the ground to leave them open fore more attacks from the others.
He used the force from the kick to land back next to Mephistomon, where he noticed the runes "What are...?" he muttered to himself "...Wizardmon, anything you can do about those runes on Mephistomon...?" he asked. He knew staying to close to each other would put them at risk for certain attacks, so he made sure to space himself away from Mephistomon appropriately. Hopefully Wizardmon's magical knowledge would come in handy...if not, he would hope Mephistomon could handle whatever happened.
He looked over at MetalPhantomon, his expression still calm and determined. While he was a Karate practitioner, his father had friends who studied or even taught other styles. Aikido and Jiu-Jitsu stood out to him. Use the enemy's force against them and take advantage of their movements in order to bring them down.

"Flighty little ass!"
For the MetalPhantomon, there was a distinct advantage in using a scythe made of energy: its weight. Instead of it being a lopsided weapon like an axe, it behaved much more like a pole-arm in his grip: as the rabbit moved for that axe kick, the phantom subsequently raised his weapon to block, shunting his frame against the ground but avoiding the direct hit to his head.
Of course, just because his focus was on Lagosmon, didn't mean that the rabbit was his only adversary. That emerald flame quickly overtook his cloak, as a second Flower Cannon managed to hit his temple, causing the bones of his spine to slightly rattle. Was this already starting to get to him? But if he was surrounded...
"Havoc Storm!"
Then might as well try this trick! At that declaration, the electrical sphere the Phantomon rested on gave a fierce pulse, a radiated blast of electricity sent out in all directions! And, much like the 'toy' that the sphere represented, an 'arc' of lightning would strike out towards each target, like a fierce whip of electricity. The Lillymon grit her teeth, forcing herself to keep grounded against the tree, even as the bark started to burn on contact.
The Wizardmon, unfortunately for Toki's wishes, opted to raise a personal shield around himself to block. "It would take too long for me to get rid of a mega level spell. Mephistomon, grit your teeth and be ready for it to explode!"
Explode? Well, yes - 'Death's Curse' had finally run its course, and though it only managed to ensnare a single leg, the runes implanted would give one more spike, and give a powerful, magical detonation at close range. It would be a heavily damaging blow - enough to make that leg tattered and 'out of phase'.
And, just maybe, it would provide sufficient distraction for the electrical blast to connect!
'Death's Curse' detonates around Mephistomon's leg! Phantomon uses Havoc Storm, discharging the electricity stored below to perform a short-range electrical attack in all directions, the discharge drawn to hit surrounding targets.

Mephistomon was getting ready to move on and celebrate the victory. He even got that sweet feeling of getting the enemy on their nerves to the point of making then yell loudly. Even his green fire did the work it was supposed to and after a short break to "reload" he could always throw more. But now was too early to for that, Mephistomon found his moment of glory interrupted by not only a wave of thunder but also a conversation about how that tattoo on his leg was about to explode! "Huh?!"
He instinctively lifted his knee up as if he had stepped in a turd. Now he was angry, even though he wanted to end the fight there and move on that edgy cloak thing had planted what might as well be a bomb!
Mephistomon was going to be hurt badly, he knew it and he knew who to blame and that's when he decided that if he was going down then Phantomon is definitely going down with him too! Electricity travels fast and to avoid self-harm the only way such an thunder-pulse could possibly work well was by moving the electricity away from yourself. This meant that the one place that wasn't electrified was right in front of Phantomon once the attack was released. A normally absurd difficult place to arrive in one piece but not when you can teleport and besides some static was nothing compared to the pain Mephistomon would soon feel. So he disappeared again and showed up right in front of Phantomon abusing the one window and then tried to kick him in the crotch area with his leg that exploded that moment. Was this fight going to end in a tie? A large explosion obscured the battlefield so no one knew for sure.
Angry at the Phantomon, Mephistomon used Blink to teleport into the eye of the attack and kick the skeleton in... whatever a skeleton had down there.Due to Blink, Phantomon was within range of the explosion, pending results.

Toki's worries only mounted at the news that there was nothing to be done for Mephistomon at this point, especially once it was revealed to be a time bomb. He grit his teeth as Mephistomon warped close to MetalPhantomon to catch him in his own explosion. A solid, if not extremely risky, plan. Toki was all too familiar with those sorts of plans. In fact, this gave him an opening. The horrible energy that was now crackling through the air pinned the others down, but while Mephistomon launched his surprise attack there, Toki steeled himself and rushed headlong into the electrified air.
He winced and gasped out in pain, but the fact that the others were pinned down...the fact that Mephistomon was heavily damaged. A fury welled up inside him. His allies needed him right now. His allies needed this battle to be over. He clenched his fists and charged through the field, taking the damage from the electricity head on as hard stone wrapped around his arms and legs. Through the chaos of the ensuing explosion, he would suddenly leap through the smoke and debris, fist aimed directly for MetalPhantomon's jaw "Dance of the Mountain King!" he shouted as he would attempt to connect the hook. If he did, MetalPhantomon would be in serious trouble. Toki would unleash a barrage of heavy punches to his ribs, followed by a devastating uppercut against his jaw again. It would wrap up with Toki leaping into the air for a dropkick to send MetalPhantomon flying towards a tree and wide open. Each blow felt even more powerful than anything else that Toki had attacked with so for, like a calm rage had taken over and his attacks were even stronger for it.
He staggered away slightly, the Mega Level attack doing a bit of a number on him. He couldn't do that again, but he hoped this risk by both him and Mephistomon actually paid off and did significant damage.
