How do you apologize for something like this?
It was frustrating to the meicrackmon, frustrating to the point to where she had locked her door and had curled up on her bed barely fitting into it as it was. Her tail hung out, her legs sat at an awkward angle and just made it more painfully obvious that she was being forced to grow in one fashion or another.
She didn't like how she felt when her sister was underneath those waves; she didn't like what she had to do to try to free her. But what if she hadn't done that? Would her sister still of gotten hurt? Would she of gotten hurt more?
Questions she couldn't help thinking about, she'd drag her fingers along her face and let out a small exasperated sigh. She didn't know what to do about this; she never encountered a problem like this. It hurt to think about; hurt in her chest and in her head. Made her think of all sorts of different things. Ranging from simple things that they should of asked more about the spot to that they should of gone prepared for a potential problem.
But why would they go somewhere inherently ready against something like this? Why would she of had to think of a problem like that before it even came up? It was the sort of thing she didn't think about; it wasn't something she ever had to and it was starting to gnaw at the edges of her mind a bit more than it should.
She felt her stomach growl and the meicrackmon sighed before sitting up, rubbing at her eyes. She could feel her fur being stiff and unresponsive around her face. She had spent a few hours crying while up here; she still didn't know if syre was okay or not and was very afraid to ask.
"Mei... What should I do..?"

"K, I need you to look after Syre."
"She and Holly went fishing. A Seadramon got to her and got her arm. Yes... yes, I know."
"I've restored her arm but its a wireframe for now. She's also on a lot of antibiotics."
"Take her temperature every hour. Let me know if it goes above 101."
"Thank you. I'll check on Holly..." It was only about ninety minutes after the two had made their way back to the Library, but in that time, a lot had happened downstairs. Mikemon put all of her attention on Syre - telling Holly to go right on upstairs. He didn't say it to be mean - he just couldn't have any sort of distraction while he worked.
But, in hindsight, it probably soured the MeiCrackmon's mood even further. He had sent her upstairs without even giving her a hint as to Syre's condition - and without telling her how proud he was of Holly. To act so calmly, to carry her so well, to try and defend a sister despite her own dislike of fighting.
Largely exhausted from tending to Syre's condition, Mikemon gave a careful knock to Holly's room - and pushed it open, gently, to find the MeiCrackmon sitting on that pathetically small cat bed. The doctor blinked, taking a brief look around the room, before giving a nod towards the younger sister. "Syre's going to be fine. She'll be hurt for a while, but nothing permanent. Now..."
He calmly stepped forward - and sat right next to the MeiCrackmon, resting his hand right atop one of her gauntlets.
"Tell me what happened."

Ninety minutes of her just simply sitting there, ninety minutes of her wringing her hands, curling and uncurling on her bed trying to fit. Trying to feel okay; but that fear and raw gnawing of emotion at the back of her head wasn't making it easy.
She didn't know anything with how syre was right now, being told to go upstairs right away had only increased the worry she held. She had reached out wanting to help; wanting to do something but what could she do? She had no training; no medical experience. Sure she had read a few of those books that were in Da's office but she didn't understand them.
If she had freaked out while out there Syre might of been worse off; the best thing she could do was just carry her to someone that could help. It wasn't something she was expecting to have to do or think about but her mind had moved much more rapidly about it at the time than she had really anticipated.
Ears perked and swiveled when there was a knocking on her door. Raising up her head she'd stare quietly at her father. She'd nervously wring her hands and sat up a little bit. The bed more like a chair than a proper bed. She looked out of sorts about this whole debacle.
"So sis is going to be okay Da?"
Worry laced her voice and she sounded a little hoarse. Probably due to all the crying that she had been doing earlier. At that hand on her gauntlet she'd blink and turn her head to look at her Da that took a seat next to her. Rubbing her head she'd sigh and gesture quietly to where earlier that day she had been sitting.
"Well... When I was reading some of your books earlier Syre came by to see what I was doing. After talking for a bit we decided to go fishing together; cause she hadn't before and I figured it would be a good way for us to spend time together."
The meicrackmon shook her head a little bit grumbling quietly to herself.
"We asked Stingmon to use his Fishing stuff and went to the pond over the hill. Everything seemed to be going fine at first, up until our first bite. Something small got eaten up by a big snake looking digimon with some helmet on it's head. It got really mad and started thrashing so I had to cut the line. Then after that it tail smacked us into the water... and uh..."
The meicrackmon rubbed her neck a little bit exhaling slowly. It was still a bit of a right mess in there wasn't it? She'd have to take a few long moments and rubbed her temples quietly.
"I don't know how to swim Da so I panicked and Syre helped me get to shore. Even taking some ice attack making sure I didn't get hit by it. But when I got to shore she got dragged under by this big ol fish thing. And... and... I got really mad; turned into.. this and threw some lightning into the water. I got lucky and hit the big snake I think because after that she was launched out of the water. She started clutching her arm like right away so I took her back here..."

Holly outgrew that small cat-bed pretty quickly, didn't she?
Honestly, that thought was the furthest one from Mikemon's mind right now. Syre's question was answered with a confident nod. "Your big sister will be just fine. It'll just take a few days, alright?" He gave as positive a look as he could muster, as he calmly asked what had happened - from Holly's perspective. Syre and Stingmon had given their accounts, of course.
Holly... well, honestly, she told her account rather well. She was grumbling, she was nervous, she was crying, but she got through it. They went fishing. A Seadramon attacked them. Holly panicked - Syre helped her to shore. Syre got caught - Holly helped her get back up. Everything made sense, it matched most of what the BlackGatomon had to say. All the while, the Mikemon carefully gave a pat against the MeiCrackmon's gauntlet.
As soon as she was done talking, as soon as the Mikemon took that information in, there was only one thing he could do.
He swung his arms around the MeiCrackmon, giving the best hug that he could.
"You did good, Holly." Mikemon made sure to say that first. "You were scared, but you did what you had to, to get Syre back. You were angry, but you grabbed Syre and ran instead of fighting the Seadramon. And you brought her right back to me."
Holly didn't lie. She didn't hide anything. She did what was best for her sister.
"So don't worry. Dad's here, alright?"

Holly wasn't really even thinking of her bed, she wasn't thinking of that as a problem either. She maybe once she had calmed down a bit would just change back right? That's how it worked? Or was she stuck like this? The Meicrackmon eyes shifted a little bit to look at her father with a soft somewhat frustrated sigh.
"All... All right..."
She'd sniffle and rub her eyes with her hands seeming still somewhat out of sorts. What else could the meicrackmon of told her father? Other than what really happened? She was no fibber, she was no tale spinner. There was no point to that after all. It'd just make people not trust her in the slightest. She wasn't aware of the accounts that stingmon gave or that her sister gave. She simply told it as her memory permitted.
At that hug the meicrackmon jolted a little bit; not expecting that or the praise that followed suit. She'd reach for a hug for a moment and then just hug her Da somewhat tightly.
"My head was goin a mile a minute Da I... I knew if I stayed to fight the big ol fish she would of just got hurt more. I still don't know all that happened, my head is sort of blurry about some of it. Like turnin into this and a few other things... I was just so... mad."
She didn't really remember her flailing in the water, barely keeping herself afloat. It was a panicked mess in her mind and then there was just the simple clarity that her sister gave her.
"All right Da... I just... I feel so bad about it..."

What else could he do, but return that hug? Plucked up in the MeiCrackmon's arms, he let himself be Holly's support, firmly held in the new champion's grip. "Of course you were mad. The Seadramon put your sister in trouble - who wouldn't be mad about that?" Mikemon's words remained calm...
... But, unfortunately, this couldn't be all doting for Holly. Not now, not when Mikemon's eyes were opened to a new, terrifying reality. "Now, Holly," Mikemon started, "You did the right thing... but obviously, you weren't prepared. You didn't know what to do, right?" As much as he praised her, the fact that she through a lightning bolt into the water proved problematic. What if that worked? What if the surge was strong enough that it left both the Seadramon - and Syre - paralyzed under the water?
Holly didn't know, but what she did was incredibly dangerous! "It won't be right away, Holly. But I am going to teach you. Teach you how to swim, and how to fight." He gave a slow nod, making sure that Holly understood. "I'm not saying you have to like fighting - but you have abilities and powers you can defend yourself with. You need to learn how to use them effectively, and the risk that comes with using them. And..."
He gave a smile. "I'll get you a new bed. Do you want Siris' old beanbag chair, for now?"

"But getting mad about it didn't feel right, it felt all wrong. Twisty wormy, stomach grumpy sort of way..."
The meicrackmon sighed a little bit and stopped hugging her Da as tight as she had been a little bit ago. She didn't want to squish the fluff right out of him! That'd be mean; that and she didn't quite know her own strength at the moment. It had been a little awkward opening the door as she was trying to figure out how actual hands worked too...
She felt her ears flatten against her head as this started to sound a lot like a lecture coming up. But instead of a lecture it just turned into a statement followed by a quick question. She'd blink and look down at her hands. She still remembered the crackle of energy from the bolt of lightning, how it felt to throw it. She didn't know where she was drawing that energy from or how she could control that long term.
"No Da... I panicked and just... My body sort of moved on it's own."
Then he spoke again, her ears flicking a bit when he said that he was going to teach her. There was a moment where she was going to ask what he was going to teach her but he answered that before she could even voice it. She looked a mix of panicked and worried about both of them honestly.
"How to swim? Like... Like how syre knew how to? And... And Fight? But... Da I... I...Right okay... I just. I don't like hurting people and the only reason I even... did any of that was because sis was in danger..."
The meicrackmon started to smooth down her fur nervously and fidgeted. She didn't know what sort of abilities she had in this form. The lightning bolt was something new, she could also got that strange tingle from time to time if she banged her toe or head on something. Like her body was just healing the pain away.
"I uhm... Sure Da. It'd probably be better than what I have right now. Da... how do you tell what a form can do? I didn't really even know what I could do as a meicoomon, much less this."

Of course Holly was nervous - both about how to swim, and even more, how to fight. As the MeiCrackmon gave her response, however, Mikemon shook his head.
"Its not about learning how to hurt others, Holly. Its learning how to protect. Both yourself, your sister, and this family." He gave her a confident smile. "You said that you 'panicked', that your 'body moved on its own'. And that you had an uncomfortable feeling in your stomach. That's because you didn't know what to do."
It was that simple, really! "And I bet now you're thinking 'What if I did the wrong thing?' 'What if I hurt her more?' 'What if that Seadramon came after us?'" It, truthfully, could have been a lot worse! "But if you learn how to defend yourself, you won't have to ask so many questions. You'll know that you did the best you could, you know?"
He gave a smile - and one last point. "They're techniques and moves that we're able to use, naturally. We have them for a reason - and its up to you to decide how to use them. Now."
The doctor took a step back. "Are you feeling a little better?"
As for that last question, he simply gave a chuckle, tapping his right sinus - referencing his eyes. "Don't worry. Dad's able to see nice and deep into a Digimon's data. I'll know just how to get ya going!"

"...Fight not to hurt but to protect? I don't know if I'd ever be strong enough to protect you all."
The meicrackmon fidgeted a bit; she wasn't really sure how she could protect the others. They were stronger than she was right? Well they had to be, she knew without any doubt that her parents were but... She was pretty sure her siblings were.
"R-right... Well... I had never done something like that so..."
The meicrackmon paused and slowly nodded her head as the mikemon pushed forward a lot of the questions that were on her mind. On her mind during the last hour or so. Past all the sobbing and quiet curled mess that she had been privy to.
"Right... Then I should try to learn but it's... still gonna be really hard I think. I don't think I'm much of a fighter."
Holly sighed a little bit and flicked her ears as mikemon brought up his last point. He called them techniques and moves; that they were able to use naturally. So anything that she did use out of reflex would of been... well. Was completely her. She'd dip her head in a small nod and then blink. She'd place a hand on her stomach and sigh.
"Bit hungry Da, bit worried. Can't stop thinking about it. It just was so... unreal."
The larger cat blinked and then tilted her head slightly. She wasn't sure what he meant by that but she wouldn't argue with him. But that did give rise to another question.
"What do you mean by that Da? Being able to see deep into a digimon's data? How do you do that? And you will? Well... Should we do that now or save that for later?"

"You'll do just fine, Holly. Don't worry."
Of course, Mikemon showered her with encouragement - and at the very least, Holly seemed to understand why he was making her do the training. Giving her a confident nod, the doctor would get back on his own feet. Through it all, it was no surprise that Holly was hungry, the doctor returning a nod.
"Then we'll go down and eat. Ma made roast chicken tonight." He gave a chuckle - returning the blink at her curious question. "Hm? Its something I've practiced... its just about 'looking at something a different way'. But we'll save that for later." He was completely wiped after treating Syre, after all!
"For now, let's go downstairs and eat. I'm sure mom wants to see you as well."

"I'll try not to Da."
Honestly that was something easier said than done; she still didn't have a firm grasp on many things. But at least she had someone that was willing to teach her stuff; and the Meicrackmon figured that these two things were simply just drops in the bucket. Flicking an ear and watching her father stand she'd follow suit though wobble a bit as standing too quickly made her a touch dizzy.
"She did? I don't think I've had that before!"
The meicrackmon bounced a little bit in place blinking owlishly as he explained out that whole being able to see deep into data thing. It was just a way of looking at something differently? That raised more questions but with the dismissal that he brought she'd have to hold off on them for now.
"Okay! You don't think she's gonna be mad do you?"
Another thing that the meicrackmon didn't know was her mother's temperament. Sure she seemed calm most of the time that Holly had seen her but that didn't mean anything when push came to shove about certain topics. As far as holly knew she was a team leader, her mother and a pretty darned good cook. There was that smile that she seemed to always have here though; perhaps she just enjoyed being near her family? The few interactions that she had with her mother were fairly tame too... So why was she worrying?
Downstairs inside the kitchen K had after all been a blur of busy movement. While roasted chicken was the main part of the meal there were other parts that she had to include based off of taste. She knew a few things that went well with it and a few bits that her husband liked. A frustrating part was trying to figure out what her daughter liked; as she hadn't really spoken out about favorite foods past fish. This would be the first time that holly would of had roast chicken so she had to make sure to make a bit of a good impression with it.
Holly on the hand nervously stepped into the kitchen where K gestured towards the sink; thinking her mother mad the meicrackmon flinched and took an awkward step back.
"Wash your hands you two, Mikemon could you show her how to set the table? Dinner should be ready here in a few minutes..."
Her voice sounded rather chipper; even with the fact that syre was in the other room having to deal with her recuperation. Flicking an ear as a timer went off the renamon would shuffle out of the room rather quickly; she had been checking up on syre every so often to make sure she was comfortable still. And of course to figure out what to feed her eldest daughter...

"Heh, its good! Mom really knows how to cook, you know."
He took Holly's positive attitude and tried to knead it along. This was the Holly that he wanted to see, of course: happy, bouncing, and curious. But something was definitely lost that day, a something that made itself apparent when she asked if K was going to be mad.
Mikemon gave a blink, and shook his head. "Not mad, no. But she's been helping me out with everything downstairs, so if she's a little 'tired', well, listen to what she says, alright?" Simple enough, though he was a bit concerned about that worried tone in Holly's voice...
... Well. Right now, at least he understood.
And yes, K would be quite the busy fox right now - between handling Syre, the rest of the family, and the cooking, it was easy for the fox to have her hands full! As Mikemon led Holly on down, he blinked as the cat took a step back.
Er... right, setting the table! "Er, right! Wash your hands and come along with me." Unfortunately, the shorter Mikemon would have to make a bad showing and stand on the chair to do so, but he'd show her the basics. "Plate in the center, and forks on the right. The smaller one goes closer to the plate, like this..."
K had quite the thorough set of silverware there, didn't she? In the other room, Syre gave a blink, slowly turning just her head to face the door. "Oh... hey mom... time for my temperature again?"
Syre wasn't in the best shape right now, of course, but she kept a smile - even as her left arm, below the elbow, was nothing but a purple wireframe. She would turn her head as K pressed the thermometer into her ear - revealing the cat was the same, steady, just-a-little-hot temperature as she was before.
"T-thanks for spending the afternoon with me... and s-sorry if this is taking away from your time with the team..."

"Really? Maybe she can teach me!"
Holly didn't know what else her mother knew how to do, she didn't know about the inn and the few times that they had spoken had been about pretty small things. Maybe her mother was trying to figure out how best to share?
"All right Da. Hopefully she can get some rest then... well. Both of you. Cause... yeah..."
The meicrackmon's ears flicked a bit and she'd sigh quietly. Hopefully tired was the least of Holly's worries when it came to her mother. She didn't want to risk her being made or disappointed in her.
Just how could she not be worried? Well. Not about just that.
As far as having her hands fully K was in full tilt trying to keep up with everything. Flickign around from place to place, timers dinging and the like. When it came to the chicken she practically had poured over it; trying to gauge if it had been ready.
"All right Da."
Washing her hands was something that the meicrackmon knew how to do, after all they didn't want to get the food icky from other things. She'd quickly wash and rinse her hands. Drying them off with a towel before easing to stare at her father as he showed her how to set the table.
It didn't take him more than one showing for her to get it. It was pretty simple! But they didn't need more than five places right? Well with syre it'd just be four... She still hadn't met her brother but she wasn't going to dis-include him from the placements.
"She seemed... oddly happy."
In the other room K gave her daughter a small smile and gently took a seat next to the bed. She'd dip her head in a nod eyeing over the left arm. It looked somewhat painful and she had to wonder how a simple bite from a seadramon led to this. It must of been far more powerful than it led on.
"That it is dear... Don't worry."
She'd of course check the temperature; it wasn't worrying as far as things went. If it had been too much higher they may of had a problem but... Thankfully that was the case. Flicking an ear she'd lean forward to give the blackgatomon a small rub on the top of the head.
"I'm glad I was able to spend some time with you, circumstances aside. The team comes second Syre; I made them all to protect my world remember?"
There was a soft chucken and K leaned to give her daughter a firm somewhat careful hug avoiding pushing against that wireframe before sighing softly.
"What do you want to eat Syre? Some soup? I don't know if you'll have the energy to eat the Chicken but I can get you a piece if you want."

"You mean mom?"
Helping Holly to set the table - or, really, just making sure that she followed the instructions - the doctor gave a small chuckle towards the MeiCrackmon. "Don't get me wrong, she didn't like what happened today... but I think she's just proud of you two, is all. Now c'mon, let's finish setting these up so its nice and ready when mom comes back."
And no, they didn't need more than five sets... when it was just the five of them, anyway. But with the Library, there was always the chance for it to become substantially more! Syre, meanwhile, gave a light groan as she felt that click in her ear again. She never liked it before, and didn't like it now, but her complaints about the device were limited to a mere sound of discomfort at the moment.
"Mom..." They were her world? Oh, Syre couldn't help but give a bit of a smirk at that, returning that hug as best she could with one arm. What did she want to eat? Honestly, it was only because K said that, that Syre realized she was hungry at all!
"Um... just... soup does sound good, actually. Maybe a thermos?" It seemed better than trying to handle a bowl at the moment! She gave a pause after that, and just asked a simple question.
"... Is Holly doing okay? I mean..." She tried to find the best words to explain it: "I... never meant to scare her like that..."

"Yeah... she seemed. Not what I was expecting."
The meicrackmon finished rather lamely; flicking her ears a touch as she set the table. At his explanation she'd simply nod looking down at her hands as he said she was proud of all things. She didn't seem proud, happy yes but proud? She couldn't figure that out. But she wouldn't argue the fact.
"I can't really blame her... but all right!"
The meicrackmon perked up and well it wouldn't even really take long to set up five places. She didn't know how busy this place could be and honestly when it came down to it she probably would be okay with it. Even if she wasn't well that just meant more people for her to meet over a dinner!
K knew how it felt to get one of these things jabbed in your ear; she didn't much like it herself and wouldn't blame syre for not liking it either. She'd give syre a small smile and chuckle quietly before tilting her head slightly.
"Would be easier to eat considering, it'll just be a little bit before it's ready."
The renamon paused at the question and let out a small sigh. Was holly doing okay? Well judging from how she flinched, seemed a touch nervous... she was probably more worried about the repercussions than anything else.
"She seems to be doing okay, a little nervous but I think that'll change once she gets settled I think. It was a bad situation and the both of you handled it really well; you did what a big sister should when around their littler one. Scared or not I can say she's proud of you and I know I am. Now just rest up okay? I'll be back in a bit."
The renamon smiled a little bit and ran her hand over the top of syre's head before standing up. Sighing sweetly when at the door; looking back at her daughter.
"And when you're feeling a bit better, you and holly can play some board games together. How does that sound?"
