How long had it been?
Just how much time had passed since Satoshi and Gabumon had followed that fake signal into the Spyware Caverns? Digimental be damned, it honestly felt like the duo had been lost in those underground tunnels for months. The extra form was certainly not worth the physical and mental damage. The trials and tribulations they had endured were unspeakable, barely able to be recalled in detail due to the trauma.
As Satoshi sat in the lobby of the local Inn in Snowflake Village, he wondered if the two of them would ever be the same. He honestly thought that he had lost his mind after being in there for so long. He could barely bring himself to do anything else.
Gabumon, meanwhile, was either totally unaffected or very good at mentally blocking out his trauma. He was currently in the middle of attempting to hit on a Renamon that had appeared in the lobby. It clearly wasn't working, but it didn't mean he couldn't try!
Seeing Gabumon act like his normal goofy self did help Satoshi feel a tiny bit better.

Sophie James was in something in a state of shock at this moment, only able to sit and stare.
Since her little brother Colin had told her that his former organization, PROFIT had been dissolved due to the disappearance of its leaders and offered to help her with AEGIS, she hadn't suspected in the slightest what forces he had available here.
First of all, Colin had apparently biomerged with his twin partners, which had somehow changed his biology so he actually had red eyes now and they weren't contact lenses.
Secondly, Colin had hired and befriended a digimon that was essentially a mechanical dragon airship that could fly him and multiple passengers anywhere in the digital world in great comfort. Honestly, at this stage, she was glad there wasn't a thirdly, because the first two were hard enough to absorb as it was.
"...can you imagine if mom and dad knew about this, Colin?" she asked her brother.
"Yeah... I'd rather not to be honest, Sophie" Colin answered, a little uncomfortably. Sophie felt a little abashed at that reaction, but understood it. Colin had explained to her in full when he pledged his cause to AEGIS that he had never revealed the full extent of his power in the digital world because if he did, somehow she and their parents would take it away, and cause a power vacuum in its place. Sophie really had no choice but to accept that point, in exchange for Colin putting his whole effort into AEGIS on both worlds. It had been an uneasy truce, but, as brother and sister that were rather fond of each other, both of them having digimon partners, they had come to accept it.
And so, for Sophie and her Leomon partner Lantis's first outing in the digital world together for a while, they would embark on Colin's airship mercenary, "Daedalus", to fly on a routine mission to investigate the world around them. However, not long after, Sophie noted something on Daedalus's sensors.
"There's a digivice signal there, in "Snowflake Village" the young woman remarked, looking at the visualized map. She looked to her own digivice, then realized what it meant. "...Oh my god, that's Satoshi's"
"Who's Satoshi?" Bellamy the Impmon asked, who was sitting in the main lounge suite in the middle of Daedalus's cabin concourse. He was present with his brother Luke and Sophie's dear partner Lantis.
"He's an AEGIS agent, missing in action for months now..." Sophie said. "Colin, we have to land and check up on him".
"Alright" Colin said at once. "Daedalus, let's land in the village, seems serious".
"Very well" the Heliodramon replied, descending. Sophie was a little bit unhappy that her little brother was dealing out the orders here, but supposed there was no helping that. Him entering AEGIS in full brought a whole lot more power and infrastructure to their mission here, so, it was just something she'd have to deal with for now.
Daedalus shortly landed on the icy plain outside the village. Colin, Sophie, Lantis, Luke and Bellamy were sure to dress up heavily in the rising winter winds to protect themselves from it. From there, they entered the village inn, one after the other.
Colin, Luke and Bellamy held back to the side for a little while, before Sophie and Lantis approached the lost agents.
"Satoshi, Gabumon... it's been so long" she said, more out of relief than anger. "What in the world happened to you two?"

As Satoshi sat in the lodge, he stared at the fire. The things he had seen in the caverns played over and over in his mind. Unspeakable horrors, the kind that would stick with a person forever. The danger and fear of death that permeated his very soul during his absence caused him and Gabumon to become even stronger than before, but the cost to his psyche may have been too great.
He barely registered Sophie's presence until well after she had spoken to him. His eyes were fixated on the fire, as if they were trying to burn away the memories etched in his brain. Where they had once been so sharp and clear, it was clear now that they were hazier and distant.
Finally, he was able to process that the figure beside him was, in fact, staring at and speaking to him. "Soph- I mean, Commander!" He stuttered, quickly getting up to salute his superior. Was that the right thing to do in the situation? He could barely tell anymore. What else was he supposed to say?
Gabumon looked over to see Lantis accompanying his Tamer over near Satoshi, and decided to rush back over to join them. "Hey, guys!" he spouted, informal as always. He still seemed to be in healthy spirits. Satoshi looked over at him, still wondering how he was managing to stay so positive after what they had been through. Was he just faking it?

Sophie was startled by the fact that Satoshi seemed to take a while to respond to her. His vacant expression, his distant gaze... was this trauma? And more importantly, was this a sign that Satoshi had been hurt on the inside as well as the outside?
Fortunately, Satoshi still recognized her, and she returned the salute. Good. So he hadn’t forgotten everything.
Lantis meanwhile noted that Gabumon seemed to be in at least moderate spirits. But still, the fact that Satoshi seemed to be somewhat out of it concerned him. That and the fact that they had not reported back in all this time.
“What in the world happened to you guys?” the Leomon asked, looking on with concern.
Meanwhile, Colin and his partners watched on with apprehension. No wonder Sophie had asked them to fill in some missing agents’ positions, if this was the current state of AEGIS, what hope did they have in fulfilling their purpose? To protect Earth from threats from the digital world.
Bellamy was more willing to put this down to a coincidence, but Luke wasn’t so sure. He at least hoped that Satoshi could recover from whatever had held him up all this time.

Satoshi became distant when Lantis asked what had happened to the two of them. It was still too fresh, but he couldn't just say nothing. He and Gabumon had been missing in action for way too long to not give a valid explanation, but when he tried to open his mouth he couldn't find the words to express their trials. Thankfully, Gabumon spoke up and attempted to cover their tracks. "We've been...searching for...something and we...lost track of time!"
He was obviously skirting around the whole truth, but Satoshi had to at least give a light smile at his attempt to explain their absence without worrying the others. It also helped him calm down a bit, and finally gained the composure to speak. "We were a bit lost for a little while, but the important thing is that we're back and ready to continue our work!"
As Satoshi thought about it, he wondered if he really was ready to continue his work with AEGIS. He could barely focus long enough to have a conversation with Sophie, how could he be expected to do his job?

Sophie and Lantis couldn't believe that description, but noted that Satoshi and Gabumon seemed to be a little shaken here, so she wouldn't press them on it. Immediately she suspected the reason why - perhaps they had been lost in the Spyware Caverns?
Well, they indicated they might be good to return back to work. Sophie thought that the best option would be to perhaps keep them on base at AEGIS HQ for the time being? Just to keep them doing basic work. The residential facilities there would be open for their use after all, and as far as she knew, Satoshi's specialty was computers and researching data. He could safely do that back home.
"Alright, well, I'm willing to allow that, just as long as you stay on location at AEGIS HQ for a while, just to make sure that you're both safe" she said. She then realized she had neglected to tell them the news of the others here. "Ah, by the way, I don't think you've met. This is Colin, my little brother. He and his partners have signed on to also be AEGIS agents since their old group was dissolved".
"Yeah, don't remind us" Bellamy grumbled. But still though, he liked the feeling of being an agent digimon. "The name's Bellamy, this is my brother Luke. Nice to meet you guys!"
So then. Sophie supposed there was little else to do but to take Satoshi back home and brief him on things. Perhaps this could be done aboard Daedalus? Yeah, there were probably too many here to fit through a digiport.
"Are you fine to travel at least?" she asked. "We can board Colin's mercenary Heliodramon to talk some more in a more secure setting".

Sophie's words made Satoshi's eyes light up momentarily. He had seen a bit of AEGIS HQ before his disappearance, but had completely forgotten that it had residential facilities! There was no way he still had an apartment to go back to, considering the amount of time he had been missing. He also wondered if John had moved out, or if he was even still around.
"I can agree to that," Satoshi said. Hopefully that meant he wouldn't have to worry about rent!
After that was cleared up, Sophie introduced Satoshi and Gabumon to her little brother, a Tamer named Colin. He had two Digimon with him, an Impmon and an Elecmon. "Nice to meet you as well," Satoshi said, still managing to give a warm smile, no matter how fake it was.
Gabumon, meanwhile, had a strange feeling about this trio of partners. Their presence physically did not match the feeling of power he got from them. Perhaps he was still on edge after their ordeal, but these guys had to be way stronger than they appeared. In lieu of actually saying hello, Gabumon gave the Digimon an understanding nod.
Sophie asked if the two of them would be able to travel, and Satoshi nodded. "We should be fine," he said. "I wouldn't mind getting home as quickly as possible." He felt like he was completely on auto-pilot when he spoke, but it still was at least a little comforting to see a familiar face.

"Alright, then the arrangements will be made" Sophie replied to Satoshi, giving a nod. "You're a member of AEGIS so don't worry about paying anything, it's all part of your commitment. So you're free to live in AEGIS HQ as though it's your home"."Really...?" Bellamy asked, scratching his chin. Lantis chuckled and clapped a hand on the Impmon's back, almost making him stumble. "Yes, Bells, that's open to you too, so long as you behave and keep the place clean" he said, then there was a playful look in his blue eyes. "Just don't get too rambunctious if you invite Coronamon there too, okay?" "Heyy, we're perfectly discreet!" Bellamy snapped. "And like that's any of your business anyway, kitty-boy!""As the chief digimon agent, yeah, it kind of is my business" Lantis said, folding his arms and assumed a lofty expression. "So, um, on to more palatable subjects..." Sophie said, loudly. "Colin, I believe we're ready to board Daedalus now"."Alright then" Colin said, inserting the digimemory chip into his D-Arc. From there, a giant digimon was summoned - a red and white mechanical dragon, with a passenger cabin as his insides. From the main lounge, there were six individual cabins, each complete with a double bunk bed. There were also kitchen, operation, bathroom and various miscellanous facilities available on board. Sophie was pleased with this, Daedalus was an excellent employee digimon for AEGIS. Of course, she wouldn't forget her manners. "Hello, Daedalus, we've boarded with two friends from AEGIS here" she spoke. "Ah, most excellent" Daedalus responded through the intercom. "I assume Terminus will be our destination then?""Yes please" Colin would say. And so, once all were boarded, Daedalus would take off, beginning a journey south to the city. While they were travelling, Sophie sat down on the sofa, looking at Satoshi with a curious expression. "So... are you absolutely certain you don't remember anything?" she asked. "Just a fragment of memory would be useful here. I'm... worried, Satoshi. Bad things seem to be happening in the digital world. That an agent like you just went missing like that and lost your memory... I don't like it".She hoped at least this might invoke something, but if not, she didn't know what else to say here.

Satoshi and Gabumon were a bit shocked to see an entire Digimon appear from a single memory chip. Satoshi, even in his shell-shocked mental state, made a note to himself to study up on that later. The Digimon itself, named Daedalus, was extremely large and spacious. He seemed like a very useful partner to have!
Gabumon boarded the ship, and took a minute to process the interior. It was much fancier than he had originally expected. As he watched the other Digimon go about their business, he kind of...stood there. Normally, he'd be joining in on the shenanigans, getting in the thick of it all and being his normal boastful self. However, something in his mind was weighing on him, but he wasn't quite sure exactly what. Sure, the two of them had been through a great ordeal over the last few months, but that didn't seem to even register to him currently.
Satoshi took a seat on the couch, and as he did, Sophie began asking him more questions. "I..." he began, but before he could, his voice broke. "I can't..."
Noticing his Tamer's clear discomfort, Gabumon stepped up. "We were trapped in the Spyware Caverns for a long time. When we were in there, trying to escape, we saw some things. Things that I'm still not comfortable describing."
The mere mention of it sent Satoshi into a horrible flash of memories. The trail of carnage and destruction as they reached the deepest part of the caverns, the distinctly human remains that were still there, and that Digimon awaiting them in the center...it was too much to bear. Satoshi covered his face with his hands and hunched over, attempting to shut out all senses.
