It was a pretty straightshot through the forest to the camp; there were a line of lights leading straight to it for those that were interested and for those that would of been hired. Blue in color these lights stuck out even amidst the darker sections of the 'forest' section of this place. Making it easy to find where the camp would be.
The camp on the other hand? Well it was less a camp and more like a fortified position with rather large walls, electrified portions of these walls and a few guards most noticeably all of them being robotic in nature in some fashion or another. Whether through enhancements that took over most of their bodies or just plainly being robotic.
A pair of Andromon's stood by the heavily fortified entrance, their servo's whirring and aching as they turned left to right in a strange sense of union. Plenty of digimon in two's or threes wandering on the walls above them. Over the walls themselves the barrels of a Machinedramon could easily be seen along with a small part of it's head from time to time as though it was locking on some far away target.
Out of place so to speak was a Mastemon who sat on the edge of the wall, dangling her feet over the side of the wall. Childish in proportions and wearing that ridiculously oversized lab coat she'd be taking what was amounting to her lunch break. Biting into a sandwich while staring out at the forest. Behind her, somewhat off to the right stood a HiAndromon. Though unlike the mastemon he was actually doing work; swiping through camera nodes and checking on the guard patrol routes on a small interface on his arm. If anything got through they'd know, and if anything started following the route proper... well they'd know that too.
"When I said camp I meant a few tents, not whatever this is."
"This is a camp. Heavily fortified and ready for an assault in case of the crystal-digimon's expansion to this... 'meeting point'. One side is forest, the other side is jungle. If the group fails, we have several other locations picked out for camps much like this one."
"Right if they fail, you don't have a bit of faith?"
"It's illogical to think that it will be a clean cut victory. At worst they buy us time, at best they succeed and we take down the camp."
The mastemon sighed and shook her head still tending to that sandwich... it'd probably be the only thing she would get to eat today. After all if this group failed the next one would be less likely to succeed. But with the big guns here they would at least be able to stop it from pouring out into the forest behind them for a time.

Um...
... Were these the coordinates for a camp, or a highly secretive military base? As the BlackGatomon made her approach, and turned the last corner in the thick of the woods, she expected to see a few tents, maybe a posted guard or two - but not a stronghold like this one! It gave her a moment of pause, wondering if this whole situation was something that was going to be over her head.
Right... calm down, Syre, you're not gonna be here alone. Straightening up her shoulders, a single bag slung over her left arm, she'd approach that fortified wall - stopping a good distance away, in sight of the Mastemon and HiAndromon that sat above.
"Um... hi! My name's Syre. I'm here to help deal with a... golem infestation?" Syre tried to make sure she understood the basics of it. "Oh, and my dad wishes you well out here - wants to follow-up with your research at some point, actually."

Mae knew this forest strangely well, foresight excluded. She knew she had accepted a request to help a camp with their research, so where was the camp? The Meicoomon, shrouded in blue as she was, descended from a tree to find...That's not a camp, that's more a fort than anything.
"Wow, I think I need to step my camping skills up if that's what a camp is." The cat mumbled. She glanced around and noted the presence of individuals both atop and in front of the wall. Naturally, she opted to approach, her ears catching bits of Syre's talking. She didn't really offer anything upon reaching the wall. She just stayed quiet.
Kind of like she was just there!

When Quill was offered the chance to take on a mission on behalf of the 7/71st in the Server Woods, he jumped (or flew, rather) at it. It was rare for him to end up in that area lately, and after having been away from his home for so long, it would be nice to stop and see how the other Bird Digimon he previously lived with were doing. Even though his time with them had been cut short by his own ambition, it didn't mean he couldn't appreciate the care they had given him!
However, his time with his makeshift family soon drew to an end, and he had to continue on through the woods to rendezvous with his fellow mission-takers. The blue lights dotting the forest helped guide his way as he reached a ridiculously fortified...camp of some sort. Assuming this was his destination, he took stock of his surroundings and offered a salute to the guards.
"Hello, there," he began. "I am known as Quill, and I have been summoned on behalf of the 7/71st to assist in your query." He tried to speak with as gentlemanly a tone as he could, though perhaps it just came across as silly or condescending.

The HiAndroidmon frowned a little bit as a line of his light nodes lit up and one of the camera nodes alerted him to the approach of an individual matching the mission sign up roster. Scrolling it over he'd read over the name of the individual and a few other lines of generic information. Shaking his head a little bit he'd eye at the mastemon who was still enjoying her sandwich.
She'd perk up a little bit at seeing the cat appear a good distance away from them, but still well within talking range all things told. The mastemon tilted her head a little bit and the HiAndroidmon paused briefly before shaking his head.
"Syre's listed on the individuals in there?"
"She's the first to sign up. Listed as a blackgatomon."
"All right! It's basically a golem infestation. We'll go over everything once everyone's here and in the camp. Your dad? Could you be a touch more specific? I've had to explain my research a lot lately. And... hang on."
The mastemon blinked and leaned slightly to the side to see the Meicoomon approach the camp. They didn't seem to say anything other than just sort of stand there. She'd shoot a look at the HiAndroidmon who frowned down at the Meicoomon.
"Mae presumably."
"Hmm. Not very chatty?"
"Seems so."
The the next individual that arrived was someone that seemed to of followed the blue lights. Each node had notified the HiAndroidmon and the mastemon gave a little grin when he introduced himself. The two guards when saluted shared a slightly bemused look but returned it with a simple nod. It would be better if they didn't salute considering their hands were practically guns.
"Well a pleasure to meet you, Name's chalice this is X-003. I'm the host of this mission as you all are aware and he's the tactical know it all. If you'd step through the gates and enter the 'building' to the left of the Machinedramon we can get started on explaining everything."
X-003 would open the heavily armored gate by punching something on his gauntlet before trotting down a stairs out of immediate view. Chalice herself would float down from where she was enjoying her lunch. Still eating the sandwich as she went. She'd land lightly on her feet before looking the group over; she'd nod in satisfaction before floating over to the building she had spoken of earlier.
Inside of the camp was an actual buzz of what you'd expect a military camp more than a research one. A repair station was next to each 'building', a few of which had robotic digimon hooked into them and some were being attended by gaggles of bickering rookies. However their bickering ceased when the machinedramon turned it's large head to look at the group through the gate. Shining red eyes shifted from each, a multiform external eye-socket with many individual eyes replaced it's left most eye. A gentle whirring as it's jaw unlocked as though posing to ask a question but it hid a much more deadly intent. Chalice very quickly addressed the huge robotic digimon.
"They're the mission group, uh. X-003?"
"Add Individuals to personal database, register data signatures and return to over-watch."
"UNDERSTOOD."
The deep grating voice sounded more like a meat grinder than anything proper. The huge robotic digimon locked it's jaw and turned it's head back towards the zone that would be considered 'hostile'. X-003 let out a sigh and shook his head trotting into the building that chalice had told the others to enter. She'd quickly follow suit and would leave the group to either oogle the camp or follow in their footsteps.
There was quite a lot going on here, and certainly they had time. With the amount of digimon here, the amount of fortifications and the demeanor that most of the robotic digimon kept? They were thinking about long term before the mission had even started in proper.
Inside of the building proper was a hub of terminals, displays and a map of the entire forest. With all the healthy bits represented by a cheerful green and a soft blue indicated the portion that was being taken over by crystals.
Chalice was sitting quietly in a chair going over something off to one side. A few quick inject syringes that she was carefully pouring a colorless liquid into. It smelled oddly sulfuric and she'd grimace a bit as the scent was overpowering.
X-003 was standing behind the map proper and seemed ready for the group whenever they came in. There were plenty of seats, drinks and a few sandwiches that he would gesture to. A last meal of sorts if this mission went sour...
"Sorry about X-004. His programming is extremely strict."

"Hm? Mae, why you so quiet?"
Syre was honestly curious - she'd seen her around the Library plenty of times, maybe even once-or-twice thinking she was Holly or Tawna, before she got used to her. Still, it wasn't much to get caught up over, as Syre gave a brief nod towards Quill. Indeed, his tone was a bit posh, but at least it got the point across.
More pressing, of course, was Chalice's question. "Hm? Oh, my dad, Dr. Mikemon. He said he was in the group that discovered - well, no, re-discovered your lab in the first place."
That aside, they weren't doing much good on this side of the wall. Syre gave a nod, stepping back just a bit as the doors slowly grinded open in front of them. After a moment, she'd nod to the rest of her group, leading the way on in past the gate - and towards the building next to the Machinedramon. Within was, well, somewhat of a 'machine war colony', if Syre had to describe it in just a few words. From the grating Machinedramon (from which Syre kept her distance) to the rest of the base, well... she wondered how this just sprang out of nowhere! Led inside, Syre's eyes widened slightly at the number of displays here. That, and the few sandwiches laid out for them - something that seemed almost out of place, considering the rest of the setting.
"That's, um, quite alright." Syre gave a nervous nod towards the HiAndromon. "But is all... this really necessary?"

"Oh, I wasn't really sure if we were allowed to speak or not." Mae scratched the back of her neck. "Hi, I'm Mae." She told Quill, and the guys up on the ledge. As the briefing began (and temporarily halted so they could move into the building), the cat followed Syre and Quill in. "So...Just your run of the mill infestation?" Good thing they had a lot of pest-cleaning on their side.
Once within the building, Mae found herself staring, gawking almost, at the terminals and technology. This was a lot of stuff for her to take in, but it didn't take all too long. "...So. Miss Chalice, what's the rundown on this infestation, if I'm permitted to inquire?"
She had a boatload of questions at the ready.

Quill took a quick stock of his teammates. Two...cats. This would be interesting for him, but he was at least used to being around Skye in the past, so hopefully he wouldn't be too nervous around them. The BlackGatomon was named Syre, and the other cat was a Meicoomon who seemed to be called Mae. He made a mental note of their names, and hoped not to mix them up! That wouldn't be very gentlemanly.
"I regret to inform that I was sent on this assignment by my CO without a proper explanation of the details," Quill said, piggybacking on Mae's question. "Receiving a summary of events would be most helpful."
Thinking back, he wondered why Owen hadn't given him any details. Perhaps he was hiding something? Or perhaps he had simply forgot. There was a numerous amount of possibilities afoot!

"Your father was that mikemon? Huh. Yeah. After this I'll see if I can get into contact with him. Have a few ideas in the works he might like. And... No not exactly. If it was a general run of the mill infestation there wouldn't of been such of an aggressive response from this group. Nor would I be here."
Inside of the building of course X-003 would simply bring up several little holograms of varying digimon known to be in the area. Along with several that were not that had ugly growth's of crystal on them or were completely overtaken by crystal as it were. X-003 would stare at these holograms for a few moments leaning slightly as syre addressed him.
"It was deemed necessary when X-000, X-001 and X-002 failed to return from their scouting trips in this area to check for something else completely unrelated. When we arrived in the local area not even a week prior to this we found their 'husks' on the edge of the crystal infection. They're part of the reason why the infestation is so bad in the first place we feel. If left alone we summarize it could take the entire forest and then continue spreading to others."
Chalice on the other hand blinked a bit and glanced at X-003 who sighed and just gave her a nod when Mae inquired about the infestation. She'd finish putting that liquid into their 'syringes' before turning to face the group. With Quill piggybacking on the meicoomon's question in a fairly polite manner the Mastemon gave a small wave of either of her hands.
"The whole run down? You see those three Garu' type digimon? The weregarurumon and it's two buddies? Fully overtaken with crystal growth from conception they are natural golems. Designed to fight the Red plague and remain in stasis when not; now they're returning to their more primal instincts."
The mastemon leaned a little bit and dragged one of the holograms to her staring quietly at the individual for a few moments before returning it to the hub when it flickered.
"Those three were ones I worked on, but they've been modified by someone. Limiters removed, their crystal density has been changed. They're more aggressive than their former counterparts and if my theory is correct operate in a pack mentality. They likely were placed in this location... a month ago at the most with it being maybe a two week period at the least? The overtaking growth of the plants indicates one of two things. A plant like digimon has been taken, or a large enough individual has been crystallized and is effecting the local wildlife."
X-003 sighed a little bit and tapped something on his arm which brought up three separate andromon's. One of them looked a little healthier than the others, a little more whole as it were.
"Which brings us to what we want you to do. We want you to destroy each and every single crystalline digimon in there. We've already collected samples from the area and have a single crystalline digimon in stasis. Chalice's job in this is to try to keep you all from being infected, thus the doses she's cooked up for each of you."
"Simply put, just call it anti-crystal-doses or ACDs for short. They will completely purge your system from any infection that you may of been privy to. The crystal digimon prefer to overtake their targets with crystal and add them to their group. Large digimon are harder to infect, while smaller digimon not so much. So if you keep to larger forms they'll struggle to overtake. I'd highly recommend against using rookie forms, In training forms, or Fresh forms."
Chalice would after a few moments start handing out the syringes to each member. Three per person; the syringes would be small enough to where they wouldn't be a burden but large enough to where their contents weren't in question.
"We've done scans of the region itself, To sort of get a vibe of how many targets there is. But it's hard to know how many are there exactly; as they don't share the same data signals as digimon do. Once you go in there's no way of telling how much you're going to have to fight. So don't take risks if you don't have to."
"And the scans have given us a few nice bonus'. There are about ten lower powered signals and one very powerful signal in the crystal portion. If they're locals they could be of some use to you in some way. We haven't been able to make contact with any of them. The largest signal seems to be halfway from the center and hasn't moved in the last three days so it's likely to be hiding."
The mastemon took her seat again and X-003 pulled up the map of the crystal section. The list of locations of the 'data signals' popping up as red dots on the blue backdrop. The largest out of them all was a deep red and stood out easily.
"Normally the crystal garu are about 1/4th the durability of their normal counterparts. But they seem to be faster and hit a little harder because of it. So a champion would be about as durable as a rookie, a ultimate as a champion, so on and so forth. But because they've been tampered with we don't know their combat prowess exactly. So just treat them as you would any other combatant. And for the love of the sovereigns DO NOT load any of them. Their data is incredibly infectious."
"And the doses won't purge crystal data from inside like that. It'll... slowly crystallize you from the inside out. Mind first, body second. Still. There's quite a lot about this situation that we don't full yknow, which is why we're being so careful."
Chalice folded her hands and sighed a little bit, X-003 grimaced a little and pulled up the coordinates of all the signals for the group. The top one being the largest signal. He'd highlight a path to the center of the crystal portion of the forest.
"Which comes to our last point. We have several low scaled beacons for pinpoint strikes from X-004. Clusters of enemies that are too dense for you to deal with, or larger scale threats you cannot take out on your own he will deal with. We have one large scale beacon. If he uses it he has to power down completely for a few days and I would recommend not being close to where you planted it."
The Hiandromon would gently slide forward five low scaled beacons and the larger scaled beacon. The low scaled were colored blue and the large scaled was colored red. The HiAndroidmon would lean on the hub and swipe all the data to the side in a collective list for everyone to sort of read over at their own pace as needed.
"Any questions?"

"I'll pass your message along, then."
Her reply was simple enough, and it wouldn't take long for everyone to get inside. Quill was eager for information, Syre pulling up to take a seat. And... well, it was a good thing she did, because there was a lot to take in at once.
Crystal Digimon, mostly Garurumon and their evolution line, had been somehow separated from Chalice's work and made feral. Unlike the ones in the laboratory, these also seemed to somehow have the ability to infect Digimon, both from raw data and physical contact. It had already taken a bite out of their forces, so now they relied on mercenary work to handle the matter.
That was the 'short' of it, anyway - but as Syre picked up those three syringes, she couldn't help but feel a touch nervous. "After we make an injection of this, how long will it remain effective? I mean, it will purge, yes, but does it offer any temporary immunity?" Tying those carefully around her left glove, she'd listen to the rest of the instructions.
About how these monsters were glass cannons. About how loading was dangerous... and about how they were being handed airstrikes. A total of six, to split between them. After a moment's hesitation, she took two of the normal ones: "Quill, you have the most advantage in eyesight between us. Take the large beacon for yourself."
Quickly squaring away that argument - she hoped, at least - the cat gave a short nod towards Chalice's request for query.

As Mae viewed the holograms, they reminded her of something she wasn't all too comfortable with remembering. It reminded her of the last time she had visited this forest. Confronted that which hunted her.
Dad.
Altogether, it was clear what the specifications for this mission had been. Don't underestimate them despite the lowered durability, don't load them, and try getting the help of the locals, too. Mae was kind of thankful that Syre had been willing to take charge to some degree. "...Any idea what I should do? Keep to providing fire support? Mei clone assistance?"
She was also pretty willing to take anything offered to her, if any.

Quill was a little worried about this crystal infection business. It seemed dangerous, but so did this "Red Plague" that the others mentioned. It seemed that the Digital World was seeing a bit of danger lately which, while bad in general, at least meant that Quill and the rest of the 7/71st would be able to find work. He was excited to make his big mercenary debut!
Syre suggested that Quill take the largest of the beacons. He graciously accepted, and put it in his satchel. It was a good thing he had brought it with him, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to fly while holding onto the beacon!
"Thank you," he said. "I'll provide as much support from the air as I can, once we are ready." With no further questions, Quill was ready to head out and complete his job.

"It's a short time, as it'll be actively combating crystallization. I'd say ten minutes at most at the first injection? Five at the second, and a minute at the last? But these are guesses at best, so the times might vary."
"Just do what you want to, set up how you want to. Move forward how you want, there's just the three of you and what we can provide to you. Don't forget the major data signal it'll likely be a huge help to you if it's friendly."
Chalice sighed a little bit and rubbed her neck, honestly she wished she could come up with an immunity to this outright but all she could manage with the resources on hand was a temporary blank.
X-003 Seemed to watch the group for a few moments and noting who took what the robotic digimon slid the rest of the smaller beacons to the meicoomon. If the bird was carrying the big one perhaps the meicoomon would be better suited to carrying the remaining three. Chalice blinked a bit and trotted over to another terminal pulling out a small black case from it. Three green lights shone brightly on the side and she'd pop it open.
Inside?
Well there were three earbuds. With varying sliders to make sure they fit snugly in or around an ear of whatever mon decided to wear them. There were even clips if a digimon lacked a physical ear.
"These long range communicators will be how we'll be keeping touch. Once locked they'll be tuned to whatever they're set to. So they'll respond to only the 'hosts' voice. It connects to one of the major terminals here. So just give us a ring if you need anything."
"Just remember to be careful."
If the group had no more questions or concerns the 'meeting' would retire. All that was really left would be leaving the base and heading into the forest proper, which would of course not properly start for a little bit. Which gave them plenty of room to get properly ready...
After all? Once they were in the crystal forest their job would get a lot harder. As eyes felt like they were watching the group from every direction. That natural feeling of danger permiating from every length of crystal, every step bringing a firm crunch of broken lengths of rock. The wind whistling through the tree's making the entire place sound hollow and like wind instruments...
Elsewhere?
Well eyes were watching them, but they weren't friendly. But in this place where scents, sounds and even the very air seemed turned against the three? How would they find the difference between what was sentient and what wasn't? But it wasn't as though their job would get any easier with just waiting around.

Reduced effectiveness after each use, huh? The BlackGatomon bit her lip, but gave a nod towards Chalice - and gave an added tip to Mae. "If you could lead with the clones, actually, that would be great! If we tie up the crystal creatures with an entity that can't really be infected, it'll be easier for us to deal with it at a range."
Aside from that, it seemed that there was one more bit of tech - an earbud and a mouthpiece? Syre gave a nod, quickly slipping in her own. "We'll be careful, no worries..." ... Oh.
Oh, dear, what had they gotten themselves into? Though they had a nice bit of instruction at the start, it was quite clear that they were among a den of wolves - likely quite literally - as the three would make their way through that dense forest. Even the bark and the leaves here glinted with a sickening sense of beauty.
It just felt off. Though the three may have blended into a normal forest, right now, Syre felt like she was sticking out like a sore thumb. She kept close to Mae as they progressed, gritting her teeth.
"... Any ideas? Because we're nothing but a stone's throw from base and it already feels like we're being hunted..."

"The clones themselves don't last very long and they're...prone to wanting to explode. Leading's a good call, but I'd need to deploy them when we actually catch sight of our targets. The good thing is that I think they'll blow up if the golems even touch them." Mae noted as she slipped in the added gear.
Once they had entered the forest proper...Mae felt the eyes on her already. The cat thought it prudent to keep her eyes peeled. "...I agree with that sentiment. We may wish to digivolve if need be--I think our original plan should still work." She replied towards Syre. "...If we relax and think clearly, I think we'll be good." With that, the cat revealed a bright red claw that she quickly pierced herself with--something to trigger her evolution into Meicrackmon. The normal one. Quicker and less painful.
"I lead, right? Just...making sure." The now-ultimate level cat inquired, taking a cautionary step forward and peering around.
