*RRRRRING!*
The school bell signified the end of another day of studying in Shibuya High. Students were pouring out of the school's doors, making way to the cafeteria, to the bike stands, or towards the railway station. It was hard to recognize any individual faces in that crowd, but as soon as the stream split off into different groups, it was possible to notice five girls walking together, wearing the same uniforms and carrying the same backpacks. One of them was very tall, with raven black hair. The other was so short she looked almost like a 4th-grader. The third one was a bit taller, and had a dreaming, mesmerized look upon her as she looked at a bird. The fourth was hurrying everyone up and spouting nonsense about wanting to eat and play. And the fifth...
The fifth was Yomi. Taller than most, but shorter than the first girl. Wearing a pair of square-ish glasses with a thin metal frame. She kept Kaya from running off by holding her by the collar, preventing her from crossing the road.
"Let me go I wanna go lemme go please!"
"No. The red light is still on. You want to get hit by a car or something? Baka."
Eventually, the five girls crossed the road, and split up. Orihime and Chiko went to the left, where their homes were. Takeko-san, the tall girl, went to the right. Muttering something about wanting to see cats. It left Yomi alone with Kaya, to walk towards a little park, through which they passed on their way home, every day. It was a nice place, with plenty of shade, benches, and a water spring down the middle. As Kaya kept prattling on about nonsense, Yomi felt a soft buzz from her pocket, and pulled out her new phone. Immediately attracting her hand-grabbing friend's attention.
"Ohhh... is that a new phone? I've never seen it before! Gimme gimme!"
Before Yomi could react, the yellow-colored phone was snatched out of her heads, with Kaya starting to press all the buttons! Contacts, music, games, widgets, everything popped up on the screen at the same time, being turned on and turned off. The glass-wearing girl frowned and breathed into her lungs before yelling out:
"THAT'S NOT YOUR PHONE KAYA! GIVE IT BACK!"
"Just one second! Stop being such a grouch! Ohh, Kagura has two phone numbers? I didn't know~"
The two girls fought over it, with Yomi trying to snatch the phone out of Kaya's hands, while she kept laughing and pressing the buttons. Suddenly, the audioports of the device let out a weird, reverberating noise, as if several applications ran their sound files at the same time and glitched. The two stopped fighting, with Kaya looking a bit scared that she broke it.
"Wha? I didn't do anything! What's going on?"
"Gimme that! Stupid girl. You better not have broken it or you'll be buying a new one! Lets see..."
Finally wrenching the phone out of her friend's hands, Yomi started pressing buttons in a more orderly fashion, trying to close the programs or at least reboot the phone. But none were responsive, and the sound just kept getting louder. The screen went all sorts of colors, until suddenly it went black, with green numbers flowing across the screen. Kaya looked over Yomi's shoulder, curiously.
"Did you fix it?"
"Shush. I don't know. It's... doing something..." And indeed, it did! Suddenly, the darkness shot out of the screen and into Yomi's face! She did not manage to let out a gasp, before her entire body looked like it was digitized, covered in 1s and 0s, before being dragged into the phone in a blink of an eye! The phone then landed on the ground, leaving Kaya stunned and confused, as she blinked a few times.
"A... -are? Wha? Yomi?"
"Yomi?"
... ... ... ... ... ...
"YOMI?!"

Silence. Utter silence.
For the first few moments, perhaps Yomi would have thought that she was still floating through the void, at the end of whatever push and pull she had felt through the Digital stream, but where she had ended up was comparatively more boring, more mundane. When she finally came to, the girl would find herself face-down in the dirt, a blackish, soft, dry peat-moss. Perhaps she had landed in some sort of garden? Well..
... No. As far as the eye could see, in every direction, was the same dry-and-unforgiving soil. Light here was scarce, the sky above thick with dark and gloomy clouds, only a faint red glow piercing through the thinnest part of the veil. Aside from that? Well, it was silent: nothing to be seen within her eyesight, save a few rolling hills or stark, white, cactus-like trees that gave their own faint glow.
There was nothing to see, but occasionally, there would be something to hear, like a faint growl off in the distance - something as persistent ans a cackling insect in the woods.
Something was out there - but it would be like no beast or bird she'd ever heard of before.

"Uhhh..."
Yomi was lying on her chest and face, plastered across the dry, ash-ridden ground, her orange uniform being practically the only bright color in the palette. But even it was turning grayer and dimmer with the dust and the reddish mist hanging in the air. The girl felt dizzy, as if someone had hit her in the back of the head, real hard. Images were still blurry, but consciousness was returning to her. Eventually, her body twitched and moved, before she pushed herself up, and sat on the ground.
"Wha..."
It was hard to see without glasses, so she ran her hand across it, before managing to to find them. One of the lenses was cracked and one of the temples of the frame was bent. Must have fallen on them. Snarling, she straightened it back, before putting the glasses back on her nose. The expression on her face being angry more so than anything. "Did that little brat just knock me out somehow... When I get my hands on her I'm gonna... huh?"
It was only once the lenses focused the images in front of her, did the girl realize that... something was not right. Last thing she remembered was being in a park, and trying to fix her phone. This... was not the park. Not by a long shot. Everything looked dark, desolated... dead. Dust clouds floating in the air, blocking out the sun. More ash littering the floor, and leaving black smears on her clean uniform. Yomi blinked a few times, looking left and right, not really realizing what was going on. Next to her feet was her schoolbag, books having fallen out on the ground. She knelt down, putting those back, and brushed the dust off of her clothes.
"Am I delirious?" - the girl muttered, hearing strange, crickety noises around herself. One of them felt like it was under her feet, making Yomi look down and take a step back. "What... where am I?"

If this was just a case of delirium, well, that might have been an easier pill to swallow.
But no - unfortunately, through those cracked glasses, the setting that Yomi found herself in was quite real, that growl echoing once more in the distance as if to respond to her words. There would be no real answer, of course, not now, not alone in this dark and brutal area... but she would feel one thing.
The cold.
She was in an effective desert, the cloud cover up above thick, blotting out the sun's helpful rays, giving the land one of eternal night. And with it, came the whipping winds, peat moss carried through the air as howling winds carried forth their frigid temperatures.
She needed to get moving...

The blow of the wind made the girl shudder and flinch, almost making her kneel to the ground with its harsh, sudden force. It was so... cold. Like nearing winter already! But her school uniform was meant only for early autumn, at best! As orange and colorful as the autumn leaves. But there were no leaves here. Yomi brought her arms around herself and shuddered.
"D-damn... this is ... a very cold and scary dream..."
Her hand slowly reached down to one of her thighs, as she closed her eyes and delivered herself one of the harshest pinches in the history of pinches. Leaving a red mark where her fingers locked around the flesh. Yomi let out a stiffled groan. She knew that feeling pain in sleep was impossible. And pinching herself was a surefire way to wake up. She slowly opened one eye, then another, but...
Nothing happened.
The cold, desolated landscape was still around her, the strange noises like growling of a belly of a beast. And nothing, nothing in sight. She closed her eyes again, and pinched herself once more. Twice more. Three times more. Until the place she kept pinching was starting to become a violet bruise. No matter how hard she wanted to not believe it... her method wasn't working. Terror starting to creep up her back.
"This isn't right..." - Yomi muttered, picking up her bag, and running a few yards in one side. Then turning about, and doing the same in another direction. But no matter where she went, she was faced with the same picture, that refused to go away. The same, monotonous, hellish landscape. "This isn't right... THIS ISN'T RIGHT!"
She screamed. Her words rolling across the empty planes in an echo. It was so quiet, there was an echo even here. No sounds except the howling winds. The girl closed her mouth with her hand, tucking her head into the shoulders, as if scared that she disturbed the deathly silence of this... graveyard.
"I need to get out of here..." - Yomi muttered, before starting to run. Where? Somewhere... Anywhere really.

And run she would. Run, through this desolate, dark landscape, where she might only be able to see a hundred or so feet in front of her. She'd find that the ground had a lot less give than she might have expected, her feet sliding on top as she tried to sprint through that loose moss - but once she had a handle on it, she'd be able to make quite an impressive pace.
A pace to where, though, that remained to be seen. It would have been likely for her to just run off and find nothing, or perhaps simply slip into a small dune that she might not have been able to climb out of, but luck hadn't completely abandoned Yomi. She would eventually find a tent.
A simple cloth tent, with a smoldering fire-pit simply burning ash on the outside, but a tent nonetheless. Currently, it seemed as if its owner was out in the wilderness, a small red crystal cast lazily by the fire. The tent itself seemed usable, a small cot set up in the side - though it was clear this place had been used, recently.

Running towards nothing.
It did not help much in finding a way, except getting even more lost and losing some strength. But what it did help was clear out her head, a little bit. Yomi was not a bad runner, they ran around the school on every PE lesson. But she was a bit panting, as the air in here was very cold. She could feel a bit of sweat traveling down the back of her neck. Making her shiver. I'm gonna freeze to death... - the girl thought to herself. Maybe I could break this dream if I...
No.
Yomi shook her head. It all felt too real to risk it. If it were a dream, she'd wake up, eventually. If not... Well, it was either her doing something stupid, or the land killing her off. Whichever came first. It was then, when the girl saw something in the distance. Something that stood apart in this bizarre dimension of madness. Something that look like a tent. And a fire place. Yomi ran to it, a big, hopeful smile on her face. A smile that soon vanished, as she approached. There was nobody here. But what was there was a still-warm fireplace, and a weird red crystal next to it. Yomi slowly inspected the inside of the tent, and knelt in front of the coals, scrounging a bit of dry moss and grass from the ground. Breaking a nail while doing so, but not caring at the moment. Simply tossing it to feed the flame.
"This tent has to belong to someone... I'll just wait for them here..." - Yomi muttered to herself, before an idea came to her mind. She did have a phone before she ended up here! And there was something weighting her pocket. Another glimpse of hope, as the girl started rummaging her hands through pockets and try and get it. Maybe there was a way to call for help, or...
"Its... it's not a telephone."

No, it wasn't a telephone, but Yomi's D-Tector did serve some purpose. The screen showed a map of the area, a central dot representing her position... but it didn't do a good job representing the land's scale, or give her any landmarks to work with. No, there was just a numbered coordinate, something 'South' and 'East' - though the word 'Scanning' was right across the center, a pulsing circle radiating from around the dot that represented herself.
Useful? Right now, probably not, but it was something to look into. For about twenty or so minutes, she'd likely wait in silence, until there would be a rustle in the peat moss nearby. Whoever owned this camp was just about to return... but it wouldn't be anyone she would know, or likely would have expected:
"Of all my luck..." The wolf swore to himself, pulling over one last hill to get to the camp. Appearance aside, he had a bag slung over his right shoulder, and an iron, rusted pipe in his left. His tone sounded disappointed - but as he came to his camp, his eyes widened a bit at Yomi's sudden appearance.
An unknown face.
Who hadn't... stolen anything? Regardless, his expression tightened, showing his fangs to this lost girl.
"Slowly. Explain just what you're doing in my camp, human."

"Huh... useless..."
Yomi grumbled after fiddling with the strange apparatus for a few minutes. Pressing the buttons in all possible combinations. It gave her a map, sure, but the map told her only what she already was starting to piece together - that this was a middle of nowhere with nothing in sight for miles. Which meant the only potential for salvation lied in the owner of this tent. And the girl had to wait for him, or her, to appear.
So, she did something to distract her mind from the thoughts of impending doom. Gathering the dried up moss from the ground, and piling it together, before feeding the flame. It wasn't a very good fuel - it burned brightly, but the flames ate it up like paper. And there wasn't a lot of coal left either, only ash. Yomi managed to scrounge all the moss around the camp, in the meanwhile, in a desperate attempt to keep herself a little bit warmer.
Eventually though, someone would come. The strange device at her side bleeped, indicating that someone else was in the vicinity. Yomi was sitting by the fire, holding her hands close to the remains of burning moss, when it happened. She blinked and looked up,seeing a humanoid silhouette in the distance. A relieved smile appeared on the girl's face, as she waved her hand to the approaching figure. Finally, someone! Maybe they could help her out of here! Or... at least tell her where she is!
But that smile quickly vanished, instead replaced by a feeling of dread, as the figure started looking less and less human, as it approached.
At first, Yomi thought it was a suit of some kind. But the closer the figure came, the more apparent it was that it wasn't a costume. The claws, the fangs, the muscles underneath, the eyes... It looked real. So very real. She fell on her rear and crawled back, as the person... creature? Approached, and demanded to know what she was doing here. Making an emphasis on the word human. If anything made little sense... now it made even less. Yomi's head was starting to spin.
"I... I don't know... I'm lost... I saw a camp and I hoped to find someone to help... b-but I expected a human... But it's you... w-what are you? Where am I? W-w-what's going on?"
The girl's shoulders shuddered, as she felt a bulge coming to her throat, the glasses becoming foggy as her eyes watered. She was just confused, and out of here. And she was about to cry.

The figure was definitely not a human - in fact, to be a human in these parts was the most unnatural thing. The wolf gave a tense growl, at first thinking that he should jump and attack the invader of this camp...
... But, he noticed something off. Despite this 'thief' being here, his tent had not been entered, nor had his crystal been moved. Yomi's hands were stained a dusty gray from the moss below, simply desperately trying to feed the fire in front of her. Wait, was she lost, out here? The wolf grit his teeth, some of the tensity leaving his arms.
Until she spoke, that was. 'What are you'?
"What kind of question is that? Of course I'm not a human, you human!" He'd missed the point of that question entirely... but god dammit, the girl was crying, glasses fogging up, and here he was trying to scare her. It took a moment, the wolf gritting his teeth, before he shook his head.
Alright, fine. Opening his bag, he tossed the contents out in front of her: a number of white, faintly glowing branches, clearly nothing that she'd find in Japan. "If you want to stay here, then make yourself useful, girl." He pointed to the branches, then to the fire-pit, before pushing a box of rudimentary matches into her palm.
"Get it going."

*PTOINK*
The matchbox bounced off of Yomi's head before falling into her hands. It managed to distract her from the breakdown she was about to have, instead blinking and pulling off her glasses, rubbing it against the edge of her collar, before putting them on again. Matches. These were matches. She knew that. It was the second familiar thing she encountered in this strange and bizarre nightmare she had. Then, the girl looked at the Strabimon again, who looked rather frustrated with how confused and clueless she was. But she couldn't help it! Just one terrified girl all alone in probably the scariest place in the digiworld.
Having heard the instructions, Yomi nodded feverishly before crawling back to the fireplace, placing the glowing sticks in the circle of stones surrounding the hole in the ground. She brushed the match against the side of the matchbox a few times, feeling her hands shaking from nervousness, before finally, the scent of sulfur invaded her nostrils, and the fire appeared on the end of the match. The young girl carefully brought it closer to one of the sticks, and let the fire lick it. From it, it was slowly spreading out to the rest of them.
Yomi watched it in a bit of awe.
"W-will they last? They look so thin..." - the girl muttered, before, very sheepishly, trying to return the matchbox back to the strange... dog? Wolf? She wasn't sure what the creature was.
"I'm sorry... I did not want to offend you..." - Yomi muttered an apology. "I'm just... I've never seen anyone like you before. One day I'm going home from school, and then zapp! And I'm here. Wherever 'here' is..." - the girl tried to explain herself, and why she looked out of place. Not crossing gazes with the digimon. If he was an animal of some sort, Yomi knew it was dangerous to look them in the eye.
"If you're not a human... who are you?"

Would they last? "Tch. Of course they'll last. Blanchwood burns slowly, just don't breathe in the smoke."
Well, add an unfamiliar plant name on top of everything else that Yomi didn't know. But at least with a source of heat, things seemed to settle between the two somewhat. The wolf sat down, scratching his nose with the back of his hand, simply trying to warm up in the heat of this gentle, white flame. His ear twitched briefly at Yomi's words, the wolf giving a sigh. So she had just... 'appeared' here, then? "What, another one dragged in by one of those Digivice things? Ugh... long story short, you're in the Digital World, kid. And this is the Dark Area, so you've pretty much landed in the middle of !@#^ing nowhere."
He didn't put those words too kindly, the Strabimon looking towards Yomi from the corner of his eye. Who was he? "I'm a Strabimon. Cano, if you want a name." Giving another look towards the human, the Strabimon grit his teeth, and reached back into that bag - pulling out a piece of jerky, shoving it once more into her hands.
"Don't go crying on me. I've enough shit to deal with without you bawling your eyes out."

"Digital world?"
Yomi was simply parroting new things after him at this point. She looked around, before gathering a bit of ash in her hand and let it sip through her fingers. None of this looked digital in any way or measure. It looked very real. Some sort of virtual reality? But... those things were barely being developed, clunky as hell too. "I don't see anything digital about it..." - she muttered. But as Cano introduced himself, the thing inside of her pocket buzzed to life once more, probably catching to a familiar name:
"Digimon: Strabimon. Level: Child. Type: Beastman. Attacks: Licht Nagel, Licht Bein."
This sudden interruption in their conversation left an awkward pause between the two, as Yomi pulled the device out of her pocket. The small googly eyes at the buttons seemed to have been looking right at her. The girl scratched her head behind her back, not sure what to make of the comment.
"A... child? He doesn't look like a child. He looks very adult to me." - Yomi muttered, looking at the picture, then at the creature sitting opposite of the small fire again. Pulling her glasses down again, the girl brushed her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt, before being given a bit of food. It was very welcomed, because apart from a small water bottle, which was half-empty, the girl had literally nothing to survive on.
"Thank you, Cano~" - she said. Despite sounding rough, this... Strabimon seemed like a nice person. Well, nice enough to try and help her out so far. "You said there were other humans brought... here. Do you know where I can find them? Maybe they could help me get home!"
A gleam of hope appeared in Yomi's eyes again.

"You got wax in your ears, kid?"
The Strabimon let out a low growl, not quite a fan of having to repeat himself. Regardless, he wouldn't do much against the human in his camp - a strong word there, a bit of spite there, but he was overall tolerant. Though he might not have been a fan of humans, he couldn't raise his claws against the clueless.
Unsurprisingly, she was a bit confused about just what was going on. The Strabimon either missed or ignored that first muttering, but the second caught his attention. "Tch. Its just what the device calls us by our form, don't pay much mind to it, human." He waved it off. He'd given enough for the human to at least survive through the night, so really, his good deed for the month had been long done.
Which was why, when she gave that hopeful remark at the end, he gave a laugh! "Hah! I'm not cruel, girl, but I'm not your babysitter." He corrected her view: "I'm going to drop you off at a village nearby, and you can figure out what you want to do from there. Sorry, kid, I don't got the wallet to keep a pet like you around."
He gave a sigh, idly scratching the back of his neck. "Must'a had some shit luck to end up here first, though..."

"... Oh."
So quickly, Yomi's hopes were shot down. There were no humans around here. None that the Strabimon knew of. And he wasn't look after her either. It... made sense. It would have made sense in the human world too, but in this unforgiving wilderness, it made even more so. Everyone was out for themselves, and there was no reason for such a creature to help her beyond what he already did. Which was ... much.
"I... I understand. Thanks anyway... Once we'll get to the village, I'll ... think up something."
Something. But what? At this moment, the girl had no idea. What was this village like? Will it be occupied by creatures such as Cano? And, what would she do there? A human with nothing to offer and no place to go. The situation seemed... hopeless. Like being stuck in a foreign airport with a passport and wallet being stolen. Only worse. At least in a foreign country one was still surrounded by people.
That offhand comment about being shit out of luck nailed it well. Perhaps too well.
Yomi did not reply to it. Instead, she just sad by the fire. Bringing her knees close to her face and wrapping her arms around them. Sobbing quietly, not to disturb her host. Would be better to just leave her like that, for a while. Being dragged on by the winds of fate like a stick lost in a stream, the girl could only take what was coming to her. And hope to survive, somehow.
Maybe the village would not be as bad. Maybe. Her thoughts briefly came back to her parents and friends, who'd be missing her. Quiet sobbing intensified. As if she had failed them, somehow.
