Alan stared at the transformation taking place before him, with one eyebrow raised and his mouth agape. "Absolute necessity." This was, doubtlessly, exactly what the tamer had asked for.
God. Digimon are so awesome.
The two of them found themselves deeply touched by Toki's words. Friendship. Strength. Bravery. A desire to keep each other safe. A desire to see each other succeed. They were sure that Toki was not mistaken when he said that these were traits both the human and the dragon already possessed. However, digivolution still felt like something that never happened the first time on purpose, perhaps because one has no idea what it's like until they experience it once.
I can't possibly win this matchup... thought Levi. But that's the point... I just have to... change to a stronger character!
On the signal, Levi began to charge towards the enemy, but Alan quickly put a hand out in front of him. "Hold it. We get the first blow no matter what, right? So I hope you don't mind if I test this out real quick..."
Alan raised his digivice put to face Abaddon, and activated the improved scanner he had purchased some number of weeks ago.
"I've been wanting to see how this works, you see."
Improved Scanner - If given a post to clearly scan a digimon, you learn their name, attribute, type, and family, along with a quick description and two of their signature moves.

Y'know, Toki really did remind Abaddon of someone. It was odd. These were concepts that were foreign to him. The BlackGrowlmon simply lay in wait for the Veemon to act....Only to be caught by surprise when Alan decided to scan him.
Such a scan would reveal the following.
This Digimon's name was BlackGrowlmon. It was undoubtedly a Virus-attribute Digimon. It was a Demon Dragon that belonged to four families. Dark Area. Dragon's Roar. Nature Spirits. Nightmare Soldiers. Some said it was considered the 'natural' form of Growlmon, and was said to have a natural similar to that of a feral beast. Perhaps that could be Abaddon's problem with holding back?
This particular BlackGrowlmon hailed from the Dark Area, too. And two signature moves? Exhaust Flame and Plasma Blade. The former a purple stream of fire, the latter an attack involving heating the blades on the lizard's arm up before striking out at an opponent.
"Did it work?" The lizard uttered. "I think we should get this show on the road."

Toki sat down and crossed his legs, not really saying much else given the situation. This was Alan and Levi's time to shine, so he would respect the rules of the battle that were set. He saw Alan scan Abaddon. Gathering information on an opponent was always a good first step, so he nodded slightly. This brought back memories of spars back at the dojo. Only instead of human opponents practicing karate, it was a super powerful beings with abilities only heard of in fiction. Still, it was fun as long as no one got too hurt.
How casual Alan was about stopping the fight to test the scanner was a little humorous and he laughed a little, covering his mouth with a large hand. Abaddon was patient, though clearly wanted the battle to be underway. At least he didn't seem too angry about this. He could sense how nervous Alan and Levi were and wished there was a way he could make this easier for them. Right now, however, it seemed their greatest foes were themselves.
He took this moment to appreciate how beautiful the plains were now. When he last saw them they were in shambles due to some recent catastrophe. To see that it has recovered brought hope the spirit wielder's heart that even the most difficult of hardships could be overcome with enough time and effort. Now he was here, helping others better themselves and become stronger. He couldn't ask for much more right now. A smile crossed his lips as he observed.

Indeed, the tamer and the partner were afraid. Afraid because the first strike had been given to them. Afraid because they had to be the ones to make the first move, to decide that this battle was a risk worth taking. Of course, it wasn't even that much of a risk - they had Toki watching over it, after all. Levi had almost managed to make a move, but Alan's intervention killed the mood. Not intentionally, of course, and know they knew more about the enemy, even if it wasn't enough to really change anything. The dilemma that faced the two of them now was thus: how could they bring themselves to start a battle they knew they weren't equipped to win?
Somehow, Alan thought, somehow we have to convince ourselves that, champion or not, we can win this, and the desired result should follow. Think... think... is there a precedent for winning against these sorts of odds? He could think of some sort of example, though it was one he loathed to use, as he knew it was foolish to put complete trust in it. It was all he could try.
Alan leaned over to Levi, still looking up at Abaddon, and occasionally swallowing hard. He whispered:
"It's like a boss battle, Levi. The opponent is clearly far stronger than you. The opponent has more health, and does more damage. So use that impressive leg speed of yours to dodge and weave, dodge and weave, and whittle away. Higher damage means nothing if it doesn't connect. You can do this. Just remember what Royland said. Remember to be on the offensive. You got this."
Though he tried to hide it, Levi cracked a smile. Just as Alan had thought, it wasn't a perfect rationale, but it was something. It was a mindset that allowed him to do something other than be frozen with fear, so without so much as a battle cry, he rushed up to the large, burning dinosaur, made an attempt to get behind him, spun around, and threw a Vee Punch.
He... realized Alan, probably should have done a battle cry to take advantage of getting the first blow, but alright.
Vee Punch - Swings both of its arms in circles, striking the opponent.

Abaddon tensed up. He could pretty much tell both of them were scared out their spines right now...probably? They seemed so small right now. Felt like he could just snap them in twain. Though, he had to focus on the Veemon. C'mon. As Levi circled around him, he found he had to move so that the Veemon didn't just get a free shot on his backside.
Something that...kind of worked? Sure, the Veemon still hit him in the back, but he made sure that the strike wasn't SQUARELY in the back. Abaddon's forearm blade began to glow with heat--like it was one of those experiment videos, before he swung his arm down for the Veemon.
This was Plasma Blade--one of the moves Alan had just scanned. "C'mon, runt, I barely FELT that!" That's a lie he kind of felt it but it would've been worse if he let that hit him SQUARELY there. But hey, taunts work with riling folks up, right?
Abaddon is hit by the pawnch. He retaliates.
Plasma Blade: Abaddon charges the blades on his arms and his claws with heat before he attempts to slice at the foe with a vicious blow. One turn cooldown.

Naturally, as Abaddon promised, Levi's first attack connected, producing... what appeared to be the expected result, which was to say, not much. That's fine. They expected this. What they had to worry about now was that they were all out of promises. The Veemon immediately began to look around for the next sign of attack. There! The blade was heating up. Plasma Blade! While he was anticipating an attack in retaliation, and would have gotten out of the way regardless of whether he saw an attack coming or not, it was nice to at least know what he was dodging. He quickly leapt backwards, though as he did, the heated blade swung uncomfortably close to his face, nearly sharpening his nose horn. After being shaken up by that close call, he hit the ground on the opposite side of Abaddon to Alan with a backwards roll, managing to stand up at the end of it. He couldn't let himself be shaken so easily, he decided. He dodged the attack, and at the current moment in time, that's what matters.
At this point, the BlackGrowlmon began to taunt the Veemon, boasting that he barely felt his punch. Heh. Clearly. However, Levi had a method by which he hoped to be able to fix that. Here, in his second battle, just as in his first, he clenched his fists and let out a battle cry, instantly giving his body a rush of what he could only assume was emotional energy. This action may or may not have produced a slight blue aura around Levi. Nobody, not even Levi, could be sure, but at the very least, he felt like there was one there. Perhaps now he'd be able to get his opponent to feel something?
Levi throws himself backwards to narrowly dodge the attack, then shouts to gain power like he thinks he's an anime or something.
Battle Cry - The next attack is twice as effective. Zero times two is zero, however, so this will not help with attacking enemies higher than Champion level. The effect will wear off if two more posts are made without calling an attack.

It turns out, rule number 1 of Priere's Guide to Friday Night Fisticuffs was still as true as ever. While Abaddon's blade didn't strike quite as true as he would have liked (it narrowly missed, too, something that was a bit insulting to the gargantuan, ebony dragon,) he still felt like he had the advantage at present.
As long as he had that, then the purpose of this spar was still capable of being fulfilled. Such was how it be sometimes. Abaddon noted that Levi hadn't taken the opportunity to throw another attack, so he decided to mix this up. This was an attack that the scanner DIDN'T pick up. Something he made himself.
"Blackburner!" The name could use some work. But, Abaddon whirled towards the direction of the dinosaur before he spat out a black fireball towards the little blue monster. If it struck him, he'd end up feeling as though his insides were on fire, allover! Better move quick!

Levi figured that his Battle Cry would give his opponent another chance to attack. Furthermore, while the scanner did describe some of Abaddon's moves, he knew it didn't describe all of them, and he knew it didn't show him what they looked like. All he could do was watch for what he thought was coming and try his hardest to not get hit by it.
"Blackburner?" A fire attack? The large black dragon turned to face him. Most likely a breath attack. Of course, all of this logic was intuition that didn't actually have time to form as coherent thoughts. If fire was about to come out of Abaddon's mouth, then he would put his head down and charge forward, so the fire would miss him. He was tiny. At the very least, he could count on that.
"Vee Headbutt!" shouted the Veemon, beginning to charge forward into the BlackGrowlmon as quickly as he possibly could. Fortunately, he could feel the attack sail past his neck. Unfortunately, he could feel the attack sail past his neck. Had he stumbled? Had he faltered? Probably. No doubt his nerves were getting to him. He continued his called attack without slowing down, but he was becoming increasingly cognizant of a problem he had in combat. With every attack that missed him, or every attack that barely hit him, his imagination would go wild. No matter how hard he tried to push it away, he couldn't manage to disconnect what did happen to what could have happened. In his attempts to take combat seriously, the perceived stakes kept pushing down on him. Royland had pretended to be about to finish him off as a joke, but even after it was revealed he was just kidding, he had burst into tears. And now he was fighting a champion. And now his neck stung like hell. But he was still intent on finishing this attack. It was an important attack.
Meanwhile, Alan was made too nervous by not having a visual of Levi, so he quickly strafed around at a safe distance until he could see what was happening with the both of them again.
Levi's neck is grazed by Abaddon's Blackburner.
//The battle is slowly taking an emotional toll on Levi.

Toki's eyes narrowed slightly at the exchange and he kept a close eye on Levi as he charged towards Abaddon. The hesitation, the stumbling, the worry. It was all clear on his posture and approach. The conviction he had to follow through with the attack was impressive, but that doubt would make going for consistent, confident attacks far more difficult. This doubt must be what was keeping Levi from fully realizing his strength.
Once Levi's attack connected and Abaddon reacted, Toki would shout "Stop!" with a raise of his hand. This was but a temporary stop to the battle. "Levi. You're stumbling. You're hesitating. When that attack soared over you, you let your confidence falter. It didn't hit you. Even if it did, you can't change what happened no matter how hard you think about it. Don't worry so much about what could have happened. Focus on the now. Focus on reacting. That doubt is holding you back from what you can truly become. Trust in your instincts. Trust in yourself. Most importantly, trust that your friend is here to support you. This fight is for practice. If you wish to stop, let me know, but I know that deep down, there's strength waiting to be realized. You just have to believe in yourself the same way we believe in you."
He looked over to Alan "And Alan. Keep an eye on your friend's behavior. Are they faltering? Encourage them. Tell them to press on or fall back depending on your judgment. This isn't just their fight. It's yours too. They need your support. Your willpower to add to theirs. You two are so much stronger than you let yourselves believe. Now..."
He raised his hand once more, and swung down "Again!" to signal the start of the battle once more. He hoped he had gotten through to them. Maybe he was too direct, but nothing can be done about that now. He had to trust that his words meant something to Levi and Alan. Once more he watched the battle intently.

Did he actually duck? Abaddon had to keep a closer eye on that, and he was promptly greeted with the Veemon sailing forth to slam directly into him! Okay, that one had actually hurt! Perhaps the battle cry did something for the smaller lizard, something more than what the BlackGrowlmon could see.
It was good that Toki had called the fight to a pause briefly. Abaddon had remained largely silent for the majority of Toki's speech. He had little to add to it. He had never had a tamer, this stuff was...largely alien to him. He did have something to add, though. "...That one had actually hurt. You're onto something. Now just follow his advice. See where it takes you."
Okay, he honestly didn't mean to make that sound as ominous as he did, but he did mean it. If they followed that advice? Perhaps it'll clear the block along the path. With the resume of the battle, Abaddon decided to NOT mix things up, opening his mouth to fire off an Exhaust Flame.
Straight from the Scanner. Textbook Growlmon. What would Levi do when confronted with a fireball being bellowed at him at high speeds? Duck again?
...Then again, that was probably pretty viable--this move wasn't a complete mystery to the duo!

The small blue Veemon raised one eyebrow in confusion, and lowered the other slightly in mild irritation. His head was built for the impact of a headbutt, so it wasn't in pain, but it was throbbing nonetheless. Everything Toki was saying was true! One hundred percent, undoubtedly true! But they were words, weren't they? Words, he thought, what words are important here? Instinct, he says. Instinct? Trust my instinct? Instincts? Do I have those things? He searched himself. All I want to do right now... is run, or else cry. All I want to do right now is jump into Alan's arms... I thought digimon were supposed to have some kind of Combat Instinct or something, so why do I hate it?
Alan looked between Toki and his partner when he began to be addressed. He found it a bit hard to make eye contact with Toki, not because of his current Antylamon form, but simply because he felt bad about not doing anything for Levi to this point. What could he do for him?
"You two are so much stronger than you let yourselves believe."
Yes, this was correct. It had to be. But even now, hearing them from someone else, still just words, even if they were truer now than ever before. Hm. Surely he couldn't merely dismiss them. He liked the sound of those words, after all.
The battle resumed.
"HEY!" Levi kicked off of the ground for a jump straight into the air to dodge the fireball. When he landed, he began to rapidly tap his foot. "I'm... thinking!" Some of his resolve had returned to him, but he was still unsure. No matter how much he felt like running away, he couldn't bring himself to do so. Perhaps that was his instincts at work?
"Levi! Look over here!" shouted Alan, prompting Levi to break from his own thoughts and turn around. Once he had his partner's attention, Alan would draw his hardlight baton, a thick line of light protruding from his digivice. He would bring it up to his chest, swipe it down to his right side, then point it forwards. "Our battle, he said. I'm here for you."
"Hah. Are you making a symbolic gesture, or are you planning on hitting him?" Levi turned around to face Abaddon once more.
"Don't make this a challenge, 'cuz I'll do it!" half-joked Alan. "That power boost thing you do is pretty cool. Can you get me another one?"
"Sure thing! HUNH!" In an instant, the faint translucent aura had returned to the little blue drake, surprising even himself. He had thought he had only been able to achieve this as some kind of desperation move, but he had called upon it on command. Kinda like- maybe those two champions were onto something after all. By the way, what had he been upset about?
Levi leaps out of the path of Exhaust Flame, landing in the same place.
//Emotional damage to Levi healed by Alan.
Battle Cry - The next attack is twice as effective. Zero times two is zero, however, so this will not help with attacking enemies higher than Champion level. The effect will wear off if two more posts are made without calling an attack.
Vee Headbutt is ready for use.

So the Veemon was figuring out that an easy way to avoid his fireball-based attacks was to leap over them. This was no big deal, it just meant that Abaddon had to try a little harder. He had to go for some melee attacks. The BlackGrowlmon bounded forth with impressive speed for his size, as his arm blades heated up again. As Levi powered up again, Abaddon would bring his arm down in an diagonal swing. The heated Plasma Blade would be -hot- to the touch if it hit, so it was likely in the best interest of the Veemon to move fast and hit even harder.
Of course, Abaddon had to keep the pressure up. He hadn't forgotten the true purpose of this battle, had he? No. No he had not.

The moment Levi's focus came back from powering himself up, a heated blade was barreling through the air towards him at a frankly impressive speed. It didn't matter, like he was going to let that thing hit him, right? He threw himself under the blade in the direction it was coming from to dodge, figuring that if he dodged earlier in Abaddon's swing, he'd have less time to adjust. The moment he finished dodging, he attempted to ram his opponent once more with another powered-up Vee Headbutt - with confidence this time!
"Alright, Levi!" cheered Alan. He felt a little bad that he wouldn't have remembered to do this without Toki's advice, but he'd be remiss not to offer support when Levi was not only braving this fight, but doing surprisingly well.
Though he was no longer letting those fears control him, Levi still had his doubts and worries. He hadn't forgotten the point of the battle either. Wasn't the whole purpose of this supposed to be putting him into an unwinnable battle scenario, or more accurately, one that was unwinnable for a Veemon? Then again, he supposed, his opponents only one level higher than him. It was as Alan said - perhaps it could be seen as a tough boss. Still - should he say something? Maybe the digivolution would activate if he allowed himself to forget about it- fit it into the natural flow of events rather than worrying about finding a way to trigger it. Gathering his boldness, the small dragon voiced some of his fears- in the form of a taunt.
"Come on, big guy! I thought I was supposed to find a Veemon couldn't win this battle and digivolve to compensate! Somethin' like that! You don't wanna go giving me the wrong idea about power levels here, huh?"
I wonder if that was too much?
"Uh... that might be too much, Levi!" projected Alan, glancing nervously at Toki. He wouldn't be surprised if even now their interpretations of how this training was supposed to work would be way off-base. Their reasoning seemed too... underdeveloped to be correct, and they were pretty sure Toki had already told them that the goal was something more, but neither of them were certain at the moment.
Levi dodge's Plasma Blade and follows with a powered-up Vee Headbutt.
Vee Headbutt (Cooldown: 1 Post) - Knocks down the opponent with an intense headbutt. This move is powered up by Battle Cry.

"Abaddon!" Toki called out before he stood up. He sighed a bit, eyes closed. Slowly, he opened them and said something swift and to the point. "Take a break." he walked towards the designated battlefield. "We're making progress, but something's holding you back. I'm not sure what it is, but it's time to get a little more involved. Levi. You're strong, taking on a Champion level as a Rookie, but our goal was to get you to Digivolve and break that barrier holding you back. If a Champion won't do that...?" he took a deep breath "Slide evolution..." his form shimmered and changed into that of his Beast Spirit form, Lagosmon. The brown furred rabbit Digimon opened its eyes and stared him down "Lagosmon." A massive scar trailed along his torso.
"You still don't see how incredible you are. The potential you have within yourself to push forward and grow. To break those restraints holding you back from the power I know for a fact that you have! This isn't something you just wait to happen, you two! It's something you need to want! Something you need to grab for! Alan! Feel for it in your soul. Reach for the power in yourself and your digivice. Levi! Resonate with his feelings and support him!" he stomped on the ground "Earthen Bastion!" he shouted as walls of earth surrounded him and Levi in a makeshift cage match "And show me what you can truly do!" he shouted, possibly in the most aggressive tone he's used for them before he rushed at Levi in a swift, powerful leap. He pulled his leg back and kicked at Levi with a powerful roundhouse kick "Do not disappoint yourselves!" still, even with the intensified training session, he was more worried for them. He wasn't impatient with them. He just knew they were impatient with themselves.

Toki tags in and creates an arena for him and Levi with Earthen Bastion.
Toki attacks Levi with a heavy roundhouse kick.

It was honestly good that Toki had decided to step in himself, because that comment actually angered Abaddon a little bit. The BlackGrowlmon let out a menacing hiss at Levi before he reluctantly stepped back to allow Toki to take the stage. And as the wielder digivolved into Lagosmon (good lord, that scar seemed like it had a story behind it,) the champion devolved back into Rookie as he watched the walls of earth rise.
He had a bit of an idea on what to do with this. He looked to his claws. Then to the walls. And he ran towards them and began to climb up the wall using his claws as instruments to aid in this. Once at the top? He simply watched the next part of the spar take place.
