"Actually, not that long ago, your mom wasn't good at all at this sort of thing."
Mikemon gave that little bit of information up, showing that she wasn't the only one who had to go through this sort of thing. It was true: despite her vast age, only the last few years of the Renamon's life had been spent with any sort of battle experience. For Holly, she'd actually have a leg up on the opportunities that K had. It was just a matter of refining the basics.
... Though Holly seemed to have trouble with something this basic. She'd dent the plank with her first swing, and feel a sharp pain through her hand. Over and over, using her regeneration to bridge the gap - up to the point of sheer frustration. As she would reach that point, however, Mikemon would rest a calm hand on her shoulder, a patient smile on his face.
"You're hesitating." The doctor would remind Holly of her primary issue here: "When you tried to strike me earlier, your hand slowed down before it would hit me. Its why I was so easily able to grab and throw your arm, Holly."
Giving her a pat on the back, he'd give her the key tip:
"Don't hesitate. If you have to: picture the plank four inches lower than it actually is."

"R-really? But she seems so tough..."
Holly blinked a little bit and looked down at the plank, biting her lip in frustration. Did her mother have to go through training like this too? What sort of life did she live to have it to where she even had this option? Was it peaceful?
Staring at her hand as it healed up her father reminded her that she was hesitating. Her hand had slowed down before she hit him, and that was why she was so easily thrown. Patting her back and giving her another tip the cat's ears flicked a bit. She'd frown slightly and stare at the plank for a few long awkward moments.
"Makes sense..."
The meicoomon closed her eyes and let out a frustrated exhalation. She'd see that movement of her Da's in her head, him splitting the plank apart. Here she was stopping before the plank, not using the force to carry through. So if she followed suit...
Rubbing at her hand the meicoomon stared for a few long moments, it had healed again and she could feel the small tinge of hunger in the pit of her stomach. Brushing that aside for the moment she'd do as her father said.
Four inches lower.
She'd close her eyes, exhale slowly and.... Give it another go with a resounding sound of the plank snapping apart. Though the meicoomon didn't stop just at the plank her paw ploughed into the ground and Holly grunted and pulled her hand out of the dirt dusting it off. She had thankfully avoided splitting her hand again but that didn't mean it wasn't tender...
"I think I used a little bit too much force though..."

That's my girl...
Holly was frustrated, she was hurt, and she was likely uncomfortable - but with Mikemon's one bit of advice, Holly understood what she had to do. A single strike was given without hesitation, splitting both straight through the plank and even a few inches into the dirt below. Covering his eyes from that cloud of dust, 'dad' would walk up, helping Holly's arm off of the ground.
"That's quite alright - at least now you understand where your hesitation was." He'd give a smile, a light green aura surrounding that battered arm, already starting to mend the wounds that had split open and started to form. Heck, even that gauntlet itself would start to stitch together. And as he healed her, Mikemon would speak:
"Holly... I know you're not used to it. But there will be times in your life where you'll have to fight. I know you want to be kind and think the best of people. K does that too - but she's still strong. She still knows how to fight... and knows what to fight for. And that's not an answer I'm expecting for you to understand now."
He'd pull his arms away from that mended arm, resting a confident hand on her shoulder. "To do what is right, despite your own fears. Bravery."

Holly stared down at her arm, flexing her paw as she felt her own regeneration... Oh? She'd look up at her dad as he helped her get out of that ground. Well he said what she needed to do, what she needed to understand about it too. It made sense when lined up and it would be easy to do again. She felt that light green aura surround her arm. Her regeneration stuttered and stopped as it was mended by an outside force. Her eyes widened a little bit as her gauntlet was mended too.
Even going so far to explain out what she'd need to do in her life, times that she would have to fight. She still could be kind and think the best of people... Her mother already doing that, and even going so far as to fight for things. Could she give an answer to that? Here? Now? No. She couldn't. She furrowed her brow a little bit, her untouched paw coming up to her mouth in a thoughtful manner.
She'd look up at her dad when he rested that confident hand on her shoulder, telling her about that single word. She opened and closed her mouth unsure what to say but simply just sort of absorbed that in. Slowly but firmly she'd give a simple nod. It was a soothing splash of water against her frustration that was eating away at her earlier.
"What's next?"

What was next?
Mikemon gave a soft smile at Holly's eagerness, but really, they were approaching their limit here - especially with the Meicoomon's inexperience. Her frustration was already starting to mount, and if they pushed it that much further, well...
"For now, lunch." He gave a laugh, followed by a short step back. "You're doing well, to start off. From now on, you'll be joining Syre in her morning exercise, to keep your senses sharp and to improve your movement and your reflexes. As it happens, those that aren't used to fighting can't really jump right into it all that easily."
He'd give a nod: "You'll learn how to shift your weight, improve the distance you can run, and learn to be more efficient in your movement. Once you have a little bit more experience, I want to see you do more of what we did second today - practicing on sneaking up on a target. For now, though?"
Mikemon grinned: "Class dismissed."

Holly gave a small tilt of her head as her Da gave a soft smile at her, she didn't really know what that entailed but when he brought up lunch with that short laugh she frowned just a bit. She wanted to keep going honestly but... She'd sigh and give a nod. It'd be hard to get into a mindset over and over right?
"Okay! That makes sense. I figure that we'll get to my Meicrackmon form another time then?"
The meicoomon scratched at her nose and blinked a few times as he explained how that she would learn how to work with her body more. Weight, distance that she could run, more efficency in her movements. He wanted to see what she could do with a little bit more experience. She'd nod her head slowly as he also said that he wanted to see her sneak up on a target again. It made her grin a little bit at the mention of lunch and she'd bounce a little.
"I think some soup or sandwiches would be nice!"
Her bounce in her step, her sort of cheerful demeanor and all that was back in practically an instant. Like a switch she could just flick she'd even go to give her da a hug. More gentle than not and less forceful. She understood why he was doing this just... it was hard to really get into it and she couldn't blame him for this sort of stuff.
"Is ma around today or is she off working?"

"Mm. We'll get there soon enough, don't you worry."
It seemed that Holly was starting to get used to it - well, starting, at least. Training aside, Holly likely hadn't been pressed to do physical training all that often, and with it being now five times a week (once with Mikemon and four times with Syre), she was going to have her plate full for a bit. "Mm, soup and sandwiches? I do think we have some left over - ah!" He returned Holly's hug, briefly, and started to lead back to the Library.
"Mm... Ma's out working on the base today. She'll be back sometime around seven or eight, I think she said..." "Huff..."
A few days later, well, Holly would have been set into Syre's routine long enough for her to get used to it. The first day might have been somewhat a mess, with Syre trying to help Holly along, but it didn't take long for the Meicoomon to get used to it. Case in point, as they reached the end of their running course - a long, winding path around the plains that circled back to the clearing where they started - Syre found herself resting her hands on her knees, catching her breath. Slowly, she reached down to take off her weights, a simple cuff that she wore above each ankle.
"You've... gotten a lot better at this... already..." Syre gave a nod, taking a seat as she rested her back against a hill. "You holding up?"

"Okay! I just thought to ask."
The meicoomon smiled a little bit and sighed afterwards; past this training she had not been doing any sort of physical training really. Past little things she did here or there. She was okay with having a full plate, it gave her something to do rather than mope around the house. The brief hug made her smile and she'd flick her ears at the basic agreement to have soup along with sandwiches. As they headed back to the library she tilted her head at her da's answer.
"Okay!"
"Mei?"
The next few days were interesting for holly, the first one she struggled along as she was sort of out of place she felt. But it really didn't take her long to get used to it, the timing and the pace. Though she was still working on her personal endurance even with this winding running course.
The meicoomon was just a little bit smaller than her sister so when they stopped to 'rest' she'd skid to a halt and almost fall flat on her face only stopping herself by using her hands. While she had gotten a lot better at this in a short amount of time there were some things she was still learning.
Stopping for example.
"Well I've had a good partner to practice with! Uh..."
Honestly the meicoomon wasn't breathless, she was a little achy in some places but that was normal. She'd stretch a bit and let out a long winded sigh. She'd follow her sister's example placing either hand on her 'knees' and staring off in the distance as she talked.
"I'd say so! I'm sort of wondering what else da has in store. He always seems to have a plan or something in mind."

"Heh! Careful, there!"
Catching her breath, Syre would stifle a chuckle just as Holly skidded to a stop. On the first day, she actually might have fallen flat on her face - but not today. Holly was getting better, and fast, already able to keep up with her older sister! Well, okay, Syre was more tired out than usual with her leg weights, but Holly's improvement was still quite notable.
"Oh, I don't know... I'm really just running the course as dad told me to." The cat needed a few minutes off her feet, at least. Letting those strained legs cool off, she gave a nod as Holly mentioned that she was keeping up. "Mm! Apparently he has you doing... I think he called it, 'stealth practice', or something?" The cat tilted her head. "Its different from the 'ranged' stuff I do, it sounds like. How's that been going, made any headway by yourself?"

"Going just a smidge too fast..."
The meicoomon gave her sister a small smile and shared in that chuckle; on her first day she was hardly what you could call coordinated in any fashion. It was amusing to see how she had gone from that to this. Holly herself wasn't practicing with weights yet, but she figured her dad would probably do the same thing to her eventually.
"It's still easier to do with others than by yourself though right?"
The meicoomon tilted her head a little bit and she'd snicker at the idea of calling that stealth practice. He hadn't called it anything when he introduced her to it just put her through the paces or such.
"Well you've got ranged stuff to work with, I don't... All my stuff is closed ranged. As far as headway? I've been practicing a little bit with the moves I have but as far as the stealth it's hard to practice on people. Cause you don't know if they notice you or not as if they do they don't really react cause everyone sort of knows me. So it's hard to gauge what's what."
She'd furrow her brow a little bit and scratch at her snout. Mulling it through she'd flick an ear, the mention of ranged stuff on her mind she'd of course inquire.
"What about your ranged stuff? How's that going?"
Holly still had plenty of energy and spring to her step, she was still moving even while seated and seemed to be thinking about something... likely the training her da had put her through!

"Oh, its definitely easier running with you than it would be by myself." Syre gave a nod - this stuff was much better in numbers! As for Holly's stealth practice, the BlackGatomon gave a curious tilt of her head. "So you don't know if people notice you or not... because you're supposed to be there, anyway? Hm, I guess I could see how that's a problem..."
What to do about that, though? "Maybe I could wear one of those red things around my arm for you to try and pick off, back at the Library? It would train me to stay alert, and help you with your training as well!"
Honestly, it seemed like a pretty decent idea! Giving a smile towards Holly, the BlackGatomon would mull over that 'ranged stuff' question. "Pretty good, getting pretty consistent with moving targets. Right now its a matter of figuring out how to use it effectively in mid-range. And, 'sneaking' a bit, I guess - people know how to dodge what they can see, I guess?"
True enough! Standing up, Syre would give a nod, her ear flicking to something in the distance. It was enough for the cat to take a glance over the next hill. "Huh... you hear something?"

"I'm glad you think so!"
The meicoomon beamed a little bit and flicked her ears slightly as her sister laid out the situation for her again. Giving a firm little nod she'd perk up at the idea of having Syre wear a red handkerchief around her arm for the meicoomon to pick it off of them. It would help both of them to practice different things and Holly gave a firm nod of her head.
"I like that Idea! It works out really well for both of us!"
The meicoomon bounced a little bit and tilted her head slightly when her sister talked about her ranged practice. It made sense to her that people would know to dodge things if they could see it, even with the smallest of hints her Da was able to. So other people that were more serious about this sort of thing in a fashion would likely want to do the same. Something to consider for the future of course.
The meicoomon stood up with her sister and stretched a little bit. At her sister's query the meicoomon's ears strained and she'd turn her head to briefly scan their surrounding s with a furrowed brow.
"Not really no?"
Whatever sound her sister was hearing the Meicoomon didn't; it made her question a few things immediately and she couldn't help but frown. Was it her da testing syre for something or was it something that the meicoomon didn't notice entirely? It made her flick her ears this way and that...
"Hmm..."

"Mm! We'll start when we get back, then!"
It seemed that the two had a plan - how well it would work remained to be seen, but it was a plan nonetheless! But her attention was soon split, at that mere potential noise in the distance. It was probably nothing, but Syre was going to check anyway. With a quick flick of her tail, her ring appeared with a flash of white light. "I'm just going to take a look right over the hill, Holly. If there's anything, we can portal on back."
That was reasonable enough, of course. But just as Syre would slip over the hill, out of sight, that presence would come much closer. In fact, the shadow of the hill itself would have a bit of a darker tinge to it - and then grow dimmer.
But there was something. A presence, slipping through the grass - snaking through and trying to reach the Meicoomon's own shadow!

"Okay! Might be a good idea to rest a little though before we get started."
The memicoomon followed her sisters eye line and frowned just a little bit her ears flicking a few times. That quick flick of the tail and that ring appearing in that flash of white made the meicoomon pause. Just what on earth did her sister think was right over the hill?
"Okay."
She felt her own guard raise and her eyes kept simply scanning around with a small flick of her tendrils she'd watch her sister slip out of sight. But that didn't stop her from turning her head slowly. The meicoomon could feel something's approach and she felt her eyes narrow a little bit.
Just what was she feeling?
It was hard to place really, but it was this... odd sensation. This thing that yawned a presence to her. It wasn't friendly and the meicoomon's eyes flicked to the spot where she felt this presence from. Her eyes narrowed and her body vanished from the spot she was standing in re-appearing a good ten feet away body poised to fight. What was this that she was feeling? This danger that was just right in front of her.
Was it something she could interact with? What sort of mon was she dealing with here? Was this even a mon? Her claws slipped out of her paws and she'd stare in irritation at the spot she felt this presence from the most. Her pupils dilated and spun a bit, her flat tone followed suit sounding oddly analytical.
"...Either you're the sound or someone else was."

"Oh?"
Oh, indeed. As soon as Holly flickered away, putting herself in a stance to strike at the presence she felt, that same 'presence' gave an audible, curious response, now maintaining a fixed distance away from the Meicoomon. Perhaps the feeling of danger would slip away, as the creature would make itself known:
Look, I said might. But the Shademon's eyes seemed at least somewhat amicable, giving the best nod that it could towards Holly. "You were on guard, but your sense of perception is quite impeccable - ah, forgive me. My name is Iris. I've been keeping watch over the fields for the last few days, on patrol. Though, to be honest, I've been tailing you for the past few days."
Er, right, like that didn't raise any red flags. "I know this is sudden, but would you be willing to hear me out?"
