The pen stroke continues...
To some k would be considered strange, a beast type not of their village that looked to lead them against such an endevour. The individuals that had met with her and the town guard had other callings. A certain knack for investigations that only humans seemed to have. She wished them well, but she honestly didn't know how well she could do this on her own. Leading just a small gaggle of individuals against a tower.
The initial promise of twenty four had been too many, so instead her human companion at the time had suggested a mere third of that force. It had struck a better cord with the leader and their advisers. But that didn't stop the climb from being somewhat frustrating or treacherous.
Everyone that had come on this knew what they were doing, as their village chief had told them about it. So many had offered to help that they had to cut down on who was going, too many individuals would of made it a far more difficult fight than it needed to be. Too many people crossing paths and the potential of hurt being outside of the realms of an acceptable nature.
Yawning in front of them was the mouth of the volcano, they would have to file in one at a time. The molten rock had long since hardened into a proper passage for them but that made it even more problematic. Two of them could fit with their wings and would have to fly upwards while another would have to face even a more ill climb as his body was far outside the realm of the passage and his vestigial wings wouldn't help keep him aloft. An agumon piped up, his deep blue markings along his face made him stand out from the two others that were with them.
"You really think we can do this outsider?"
"If you don't you won't have much of a home after too long. No one knows what these towers do when left to their own devices. Better safe than sorry."
"All right then."
It was slow going through this passage, but eventually they found themselves out on a ledge, looking far down into the volcano that they had come into. It was thankfully not a steep drop, they could slide along the sides if they were careful. The ugly nature of this place was apparent as the bare tip of the tower peeked out right in front of them. Gritting her teeth the renamon glanced around.
"where is the guardian Chief spoke of?"
"Closer to the base or in the air. One of you keep watch from here for the others. The rest of you with me."
The trio of agumon's padded after her, the last a particular Guilmon simply nodded it's head. She'd grit her teeth as they began their decent, sliding along the rooks and gently stopping here or there to make sure they didn't simply charge in blindly.
When a cracking rumble worked it's way throughout the volcano K held up her hand for the others to stop. They slid maybe a few more feet before managing. Five sets of eyes swept around but it was the blue marked Agumon that managed to spot them first. He'd point and cry out, drawing attention to the guardian and himself.
"There! A Lavorvomon!"
"Spread out! Wide enough to where it can't hit you and drag other's down! Guilimon! See if you can draw it's attention away from the tower till the other's arrive!"
She wasn't expecting this to go off without a hitch. But the fire that roared out from the guilimon's position and managed to slam against the Lavorvomon's thick hide did well enough as it responded in kind. It's own maw opened up and not only did the renamon find herself caught in a long winded blast, but she and the three agumon's were launched upwards. She felt her fur set alight and gritted her teeth as she landed a good twenty feet away.
The agumon's were thankfully less hurt than she and managed their own retorts. But fire against fire? It wouldn't do much...
"The tower! Not them! They'll just wear you down!"
She'd snarl in irritation and draw out her Saberk. It's blue energy rippling in agitation as the fight progressed. It was maybe another two or three minutes of dodging fire blasts from the Lavorvomon before the others crested over the mouth of the volcano. A line of fire reached out from the ground ridden digimon with the other two fliers peppering at the lavorvomon's hide with their own. It was an impressive display to be sure but it didn't matter much when it was met, overwhelmed and blasted backwards by an intense flame.
He must have an immunity or high resistance to fire... But at least they do too.
K slid down along the side of the volcano, throwing herself off of the side when a ball of flame slammed into a position she would of crossed into. This Lavorvomon was one hell of a contender. Being able to fend off no less than nine digimon for at least ten minutes now?
They hadn't even hit the tower once. Snarling in irritation she'd throw a wave of energy at the tower slamming into it's frame. The Lavorvomon didn't even hesitate, it's head whipped around and a gout of flame spat forth. It was met with thankfully several others that managed to slow it down giving her time to get out of the way proper.
But that didn't stop the attacks from the Lavorvomon, it just increased the consistency. One of the flier's lost a wing to a nasty bite when t he molten monster crashed into them. But for every attack they suffered the tower and Lavorvomon suffered as well.
Panting and dragging herself up, grunting as she felt one of her legs fail to respond properly K would sweep her eyes over the field. It wasn't until her eyes crossed over the tower she noted just how... pristine it seemed. None of their attacks had gotten past a rocky magma barrier that they had spent minutes dragging their attacks along. No wonder the only attacks that had gotten it to break were her own. The flames would just heat the rock up, melt it and it'd just shift into a different position.
She'd slam her hand into the ground and make another wide slash at the tower, her wave of energy slammed somewhere in the middle and that delightful cracking of the hardened rock was brought to everyone's ears. The lavorvomon's eyes whipped around and before the renamon could even react another gout of fire was spat her way.
She had no way to move, no way to really dodge out of the way. But that didn't stop her, another attack leaped from her blade and she'd snarl as that flame washed over her. Her saberk cracking and fading out. A single rookie attack wasn't enough to fell this damn thing.
She'd yell out in pain and find the rock underneath her give out; with a pained grunt she'd fall a good thirty feet into a dead cavern below. While the fighting above her continued. Laying flat on her back she'd stare up through that hole. Watching a few fireballs careen over it, and a few gouts of flame both from her companions and that guardian pass over.
She'd manage to slowly push herself up, glancing around in this dead place. It was the heart of this place, or at least that's what the tower sat on. A dead volcano for who knew how long. Gritting her teeth she'd slowly stand flicking an ear and using her saberk more like a cane than a sword. It would take more force than she had to kick herself out of this place.
...Hold there...
The fox froze and turned her head to glance around; blinking as a voice spoke out. It was quiet, almost like a whisper; but she heard it. She'd steady herself and open her mouth to speak.
"They're still fighting up there, I don't have time for this..."
You have enough time for a simple question fox. Why go back up there? You don't owe anything to them, you could turn around. Leave. Give up and head home.
"I said I'd help, that I'd even take care of this."
You merely said that, yet here you are. Down in the depths of failure.
"It wouldn't be the first time, nor will it be the last. But I won't stop."
Like a soothing breeze, a gentle warping reality of pureness. She felt that light of digivolution grace her body. She had never quite experienced it under the view of a tower, nor had she ever really understood what she was being given. Golden armor, black scales and a steel gaze looked up through that hole that the renamon had fallen through.
Perseverance is yours defender.
With a grunt she'd kick off of the ground with an explosive force back through the whole. She was greeted with the view of the Lavorvomon and the agumon locked in a fury of claws, teeth and fire. It left what the Lavorvomon guarded wide open. K's first strike with crusher brought a painful cry from the Lavorvomon as it struggled to turn it's head away from the agumon that bit deep into it. It'd still aim a gout of fire at the Magnamon-x but that mattered little as she avoided it deftly.
She followed through, using the distraction that the agumon provided, along with the allies as they staggered back up to their feet to drag the tower down down down down... When the tower finally crashed against the volcano's edge several voices all cried out in celebration. One voice called out in freedom and the last was simply just a sweet sigh of victory.
"How did you do that outsider?"
"Do what? This?"
"Yes. We haven't seen that form since ancient times. Since one just like it lived here."
A single claw came up to the Magnamon's face-plate, thoughtful was her expression underneath. Her brows furrowed and that tail swished to n fro. What answer could she give? Something tasteful?
"I said I would. So I continued forward. Something liked that. Lets clean up here and get the Vorvomon back to the village."
"Very well. Shouldn't take too long."
K looked around for a moment and stared at where that hole had been. Nothing was there now, no break in the earth and it looked as though it was simply smoothed over. She'd blink a few times, going over to that spot and placing her hand there. Her brow furrowed still, questions would remain unanswered... but a surprising truth stared up at her.
The rock here was unbroken; There never was a hole.
