A whole year.
Honestly now that K thought about it, the two of them hadn't spent that much time together after becoming a couple. Sure there were some memorable times both good and bad. But they just hadn't the time with everything happening recently. From the D-reapers, to the spires to starting up the knights... K had been busy and she knew that Mikemon had been so as well but that didn't stop either of them from perking up when this time of the year had rolled around.
A hotel resort up on the windy crest near her home...
It wasn't a hard journey for either of them, a trailmon trip across the digital world. Comfy while speeding through the various planes and weather biomes that made up the digital world on the way there. It was a simple maybe couple hour trip from terminus at best. Apart from the few strangers on the trailmon it was almost barren. This time of the year people were often focused inwards rather than out.
The biting cold of the northern expanse was nothing new to her, so when she stepped off of the trailmon platform and that wind took her breath away she'd simply hike her collar up a little bit and crunch through the snow slowly. Not wanting to outpace her partner as she wasn't sure if he'd be okay in this sort of weather or not.
Fifteen? Twenty minutes later?
Well there was that lodge, well if you could call it that. The lofty peaks of the Terabyte mountain range loomed in the distance and the hotel's gentle lights were a bare spark. The sign of the hotel was probably the only thing that people could see for miles, minus the trailmon station or the various homes dotting the mountain range.
"Seriously the only hotel in this region and it's just..."
The white renamon shook her head, staring up at the flickering sign. The big dull letters staring back up at her. Well she thought they were a little dull but maybe that was because they were up so high. The hotel as it was known was simple put... one of the best hotels in the northern region, hell even the digital world. It was a practical paradise on the mountain-top. A world class resort that saw so many different sorts coming to it it might as well of been in whitewater or terminus.
Shaking her head again the renamon would step through the sliding doors, amused at how quickly they slid apart. With the overhang that went back for a good hundred or so feet it'd be difficult for the snow to get in but the distinct lack of digimon that were near the entrance had her a little guarded.
But that changed when she entered in the lobby proper. Vaulted ceilings, cozy fireplaces, chandeliers. A well dressed receptionist that was dealing with a gaggle of what looked to be human visitors. Many with partners of various strengths and makes.
Several staircases lead to a second level where she could see the peeking doors of the first 'first' level proper. This lobby was massive as it was grand, even a bar with a cheerful looking mon serving drinks to a few patrons. It seemed to be sectioned off from the main lobby itself and well... K could already tell that this place was probably beyond expensive which made her fidget a little bit. Stepping behind the line of tamers, digimon and otherwise noted individuals the renamon glanced down at her partner with a small smile.
"Three days up in the mountains in some Resort hotel. I don't think the K from last year would of even known what to do with this... Heck I don't really either."
Honestly the more the renamon looked around, the more this place seemed so damn... out of place to her. Well. She was out of place here, maybe. Well. Once she got into a hot-tub or something maybe she'd relax a little bit...

A whole year.
And a busy one at that. Three kids, Vander Tower, multiple affronts by a Wisemon trying to tear apart the Digital World? It was only natural that they could only spend the sum of a couple of months together, but that was something that the two accepted from the start. It also made this anniversary trip all the more special: three days of uninterrupted attention to each-other, ones that Mikemon carefully planned.
Stingmon was watching the kids. A friend in Terminus was covering his more pressing patients. Iko was briefly holding the helm at Vander Tower. And their reservation was all set up, in arguably the coziest hotel of the Digital World.
The Trailmon ride over was pleasant, and as the two stepped out in the biting cold, Mikemon didn't fare too bad with the weather. K had her cape, and Mikemon had his hood, carefully wrapped around himself as he kept up with the Renamon at a walking pace. A small walk later, and the two would reach the plainly named resort, Mikemon chuckling as K gave her comment.
They stepped inside, the warmth and the grand amenities laid bare before them. A well-staffed restaurant, a full gym and a masseuse, and anything they wanted a mere portal away. It was definitely a bit grand, but some of the patrons looked more gruff than expected, earning their take through missions and fieldwork.
As for Mikemon, well, he'd always wanted to try this place out. "Only the best for you, K." He gave a chuckle back, nudging carefully against her side. "Once we drop off our stuff in the room, it'll be just you and me for three days. I even managed to reserve the Couples Suite." The cat gave a grin, the two moving right up the line. Sure, K might have felt out of place... but once the suite was working for her, she'd likely melt right into place.

Honestly if K had been any younger she would have bet that she wouldn't of been able to handle something like this. Multiple days with another digimon that was her significant other. Uninterrupted attention to one another, that her husband had planned out quite carefully. She was glad that they could do something like this now that she really thought about it.
She was relieved with the idea of stingmon watching the kids, he'd do a good job and Iko wouldn't be stressed out just from being in the tower for a few days with the other knights or Oathgard. She'd tut softly at the idea of them having to deal with those for longer and found herself amused at the idea of the stingmon having to clean up after her kids for more than a week. He'd probably get frustrated at it.
She'd sweep her eyes around again, taking in some of the patrons that were just relaxing or chatting with their companions. She'd scratch at her neck and glance down at the mikemon as he nudged against her earning a wry smile.
"You're going to spoil me I swear..."
She'd shake her head, getting a grin and then perking up a bit at the idea of being with him for three days.... Wait he had managed to reserve the couples suite? She'd blink owlishly and feel her cheeks flush slowly as she put that together. Honestly she was already somewhat used to the idea of them being together but when it was gently hinted at in that sort of fashion she couldn't help but just thinking of all those good times.
"Mmm Three days of no worries, relaxing with one another... A glimpse into retirement in the far off future perhaps?"
There was a snicker and the renamon stuck out her tongue. She knew for a fact neither one of them likely would ever retire. What would they do with all their free time? But it did beg a question and she'd wring her hands quietly.
"I don't even know what I want to do first... You have any ideas?"

"Heh. Sometimes we need a little spoiling."
There would hardly be a chance for K to split the bills here, but that was hardly the point. Seeing K's flush face as he mentioned the Couples' Suite, Mikemon couldn't help but give a knowing grin in her direction... but yes, three days of bliss with his beloved partner. His ear twitched at that remark on retirement, earning a snicker back from the cat. With how long they had already been working, it was doubtful that they would just 'stop' after so long.
They would move along the line quickly enough, the doctor's ear flicking at K's question. "I have a few, but once we look over the schedule we'll get into specifics. There's nature walks, chocolate fondue, a trolley up to the summit, a massage parlor..." More than just being cooped up in the room, that was certain! Reaching the front of the line - and climbing up a small stepladder, made for Digimon of Mikemon's statue - he'd pass the reservation information to the Frigimon behind the counter.
A bit of banter later, and they'd have their room keys... ... And just one floor up, they would find their room for the next three nights.
Mikemon didn't hype up this room for no reason: on the far side of the room was a beautiful wide window view of the wild mountainside, behind an inch of clear, insulated glass. Curtains were available to filter out the outside view as necessary, and the room itself was very well-kept. With a small cooking niche off to the right, a gorgeous main room with a comfortable bed, and even a hot tub in their bathroom?
Well, it was quite cozy. Taking off his hood and hanging it in the small closet, the cat would stretch out his arms: "Oh, this looks much better than it did in the brochure."
Was it a bit much? Maybe. Did K deserve it? Well, Mikemon definitely thought she did.

"I'd say we both deserve it..."
Honestly K wasn't surprised if she couldn't split the bill here, if at all. She wasn't raking in the money with her knights, arguably she was losing it in many a different areas and was somehow still managing to keep it afloat. But that wasn't something she needed to think about right now. At that knowing grin she'd return it, somewhat shyly and sheepishly.
The line thankfully moved quickly as not only high class in terms of area, but also high class in terms of service. She'd blink when mikemon mentioned that he had a few ideas. She was curious to see what sort of schedule they could keep. Nature walks? Chocolate fondue... a trolley to the summit and a... a massage parlor. At the mention of the last one she'd shiver at the thought. She liked mikemon's massages so what would she think of those that had a professional touch to it? Well rather. Dedicated their job to something like that.
She'd quietly tuck her key away after the bit of banter into her cloak and give mikemon a small smile...
...And upon that floor up she'd find her eyes widening at the room itself.
A gorgeous window view that attracted the renamon's attention immediately. She'd timidly place a hand on it and stare outside for what seemed to be a few minutes at the very least. She'd flick her ears and slowly rub at her neck. There were curtains, a well kept center, cooking niches... a comfortable room and even hot tubs?
"Hmm... maybe once the knights get more into things I could do to get them rooms like this... Maybe not as grand though, I can't imagine they'd want to leave!"
The renamon managed a laugh and shook her head before turning to look at her husband. A big old smile sweeping across her lips before she'd move over to pick him up. Giving him what amounted to a huge hug!
"I think it was an older one right...?"

"Sleek and battle-ready, these kinds of rooms are not." He returned a small chuckle to K's idea. A few comforts might have been nice, yes, but it wasn't as if Oathgard, Iko, nor anyone else complained about their sleeping arrangements. Besides, she didn't have to match this level of grandeur.
That thought quickly passed, though. Plucked off the ground, Mikemon gave a smile, wrapping his arms around her shoulders in a hug. He gently pressed his head against her's, briefly seeing eye to eye, nuzzling his nose against her's before he'd pull back. "Mm, I think that was for the normal suite, so..."
Oh, like that mattered! This room might have been elegant enough for the whole trip, but Mikemon wanted to answer an earlier question! "We have a bit of sun left. How about we go ahead and take the trolley to the summit, for today? We might just catch the sun set behind Terabyte." Where they were, the sun was known to set around 3 or 4 in the evening, giving plenty of time for the resort to entertain by a firepit out on the back lot.
"Well, I know you've spent quite a lot of time out in these hills, compared to me. But it'll still be a stunning view."

"Mmm... no but they're definitely comfortable... well comfortable looking... Yet to test the bed."
The renamon let out a snicker and shook her head grinning ear to ear at the jest. She had the idea of maybe doing something like these for something else. Maybe as just a pet project of her own when she wasn't swamped with things. After all there would be some day in the future where time wasn't always pressed against her. It could be something she could just... entertain. She wouldn't match the grandeur for something like the knights. She didn't need to.
She'd return that nuzzling for a few moments and slowly set him down after their hug had gone long enough. Finding another loose chuckle splitting across her lips before leaning against a wall.
"I like the idea of that... would be a wonderful way of starting this trip..."
She'd hum softly and reach down slowly running her hand through his fur and curving it around an ear to give it a soft somewhat pleased scritch. She rubbed at her own ear after a few long moments and perked up a bit.
"I used to run up to the mountain peak to try to catch the sunlight and dance when I saw the moon rise..."
Oh those were bittersweet days of purity in her eyes. Days that she spent under the tender watch of her mother and father. After the following event of her leaving she did that one last time, in a sad spiritual way to appease her mother at the time. She was so much... more mystical back then. Rather than what she was now. It wasn't... wasn't really a surprise. She'd grin slowly and rest her forehead against mikemon's.
"But I wouldn't mind watching that sunset with you... I wouldn't trade it for the world..."

"Mm..."
He'd return that smile, and keep that hug as long as K wanted. It was still a bit awkward to be plucked up off the ground like that, after all this time - but if anyone could get away with it, that would be the one Renamon standing in the room, right now. Stretching his arms in a small yawn as he was set down, he returned a nod, purring as that claw carefully gave a scritch behind his ear.
"Oh? You danced?" Mikemon's tone was curious, not entirely sure of K's life in the north. Her tone was a bit nostalgic, and perhaps even a touch sad in remembrance - an emotion that quickly faded as she once more pressed in close to him. Mikemon would raise a hand, carefully giving a scratch under K's chin.
"Well, then we'd better get going." Raising a hand up, he'd stroke the back of K's arm, before stepping back with a nod. "Next trolley should be heading out in about ten minutes. If we head out now..." ... Then they would get there with a comfortable few minutes to spare. As they would approach and step out onto the back deck, a well-and-warmly-dressed Strabimon would open the door to the 'Trolley' - though, what Mikemon meant was a 'lift' or 'cable car'.
They would see the cable stretch all the way to a platform to the summit of the mountain, and as they would step in, be met with surprisingly comfortable seats at the center of the vehicle. Taking their seats, the lift would start to make its way up, and as soon as they left the deck, they could see the view of the snow-covered trails from the warmth of the car.
"Oh..." Mikemon blinked, a bit stunned at the view. He didn't come to the north often, especially not on a clear day like this. To K, the view might have looked 'typical', but to him, it was quite interesting. Stunning, even! "Amazing how much of this goes untouched."

The renamon sighed softly and shifted quietly. She remembered that night, those nights of her coming up to the mountaintop. It wasn't a dance out of enjoyment that last time, it was somber. It was mystical. It was something she couldn't explain, only that she could show. She'd mumble softly and her ears would slowly lower to either side.
"I... danced when the moon came up, when the sun went away... When... when my mother passed I danced. Let her know I was okay. My... Dad didn't understand but when he saw the lights from it he knew it was the right thing to do. It's... It's been a long time since I've done the motions but I think I could if I really wanted to."
She'd lean into that chin scratch and wiggled her ears slowly giving him a small soft smile. She'd dip her head in a nod at the mention they should get going. She'd quietly reach down, offering her hand for the mikemon to hold. It.. it wasn't something she did very often but she felt it was appropriate.
The renamon stepped spritely while they got to the trolley. She looked rather surprised to see a strabimon working here but that didn't stop her from grinning ear to ear. She was used to seeing them as mercs or fighters not trolley attendants. But that put her more at ease than anything She'd thank them and step into the 'lift' or 'cable car' looking around before taking a seat in th emiddle of the vehicle.
She'd watch out of the windows with a small slow breath as they slowly moved in the trolley. She'd gently place a hand on mikemon's and give him a sweet smile. It wasn't typical to her, she wasn't alone and at that mention she'd ease out a sweet breath.
"The freezing cold temperatures stop even the hardiest people. The mountains are for those that earn it and the plains are harsh. The frozen north is quite a breathtaking place... as breathtaking as it is dangerous."
The renamon leaned and stared out of the window. She knew which direction her home was in and slowly bit down on her lower lip. She could feel it from here, that tender place... where she spent her youth and her confused times in. Maybe... maybe after they were done here she could show her husband. Even if it was for a little bit.
"Every morning waking up with that view... to think our kids wake up to see the bountiful nature of the plains..."

"..."
So the 'dance' was something that K knew more how to naturally do, something that fit into the spirituality of her family. As she described it, Mikemon kept his smile, his ear giving a flick at the explanation. "Maybe sometime I could watch." He understood that it was a sensitive or at least a personal topic, so she didn't press much into it.
For now, he'd just take her hand in his own, and make his way down that hall. "Heh... I guess that's how you'd have to look at it. This place warns you pretty harshly not to go outside of the marked property." As pretty and breathtaking as it could be, the northern wilds had claimed more than one foolish soul who tried to climb up or hide out here.
For them right now, though, it was a calm backdrop - one where Mikemon rested his head on K's leg, resting against her lap. He looked on, wondering just what it was like for K to live out here, with her adopted parents. A millennium ago, this place would have simply been another rocky outcropping. "Mm. If they even have their blinds open in the morning." He gave a chuckle, knowing of Holly's more secretive habits, as well as Syre's desire to squeak out a few extra minutes of sleep, however she could.
"You've come out back here a few more times, haven't you? How's it feel to see the place a bit more, well, 'domesticated'?"

The renamon fidgeted, stared down at her hands. She remembered the candles, the burning sensation of her legs. The burning sensation and clutching nature of her chest. She remembered the flames as they went out one by one around her. The spiritual foxes that danced with her. She remembered the ageless ones as they passed her by. Dipping into those flames, wreathing around her. Giving her wamrth. It was something absolutely magical. Something she had to have her peace for.
And then mikemon asked her if he could watch. What could she say to that? She'd tug at her cloak and find herself blushing.
"...After.... After this. S-sure. I... When... I want to show you where I grew up. I can... S-show you there..."
The dance wasn't just something that she could explain, not something that she could perform just willy nilly. It was something more than that. It was far past spiritual. Spiritually speaking she wasn't the most connected, she wasn't the most powerful but when a fox spoke in her family... the spirits listened. She knew that she could teach siris, holly or perhaps even syre this as they were directly related to her but her husband wouldn't be able to do the same.
But the dances could last for days, weeks even... could she even do that for him?
"Mmm... yes... but I think in that danger in this place is also something you can't find in other places..."
The renamon leaned quietly, gently rubbing the mikemon's side. She remembered this place, the lack of cables. She remembered climbing through this area with her father as he called out to her to watch her step. His gentle touch at the end of it warming her greatly. She'd chuckle lightly and gently scritch at the mikemon's ears.
"Holly opens up the blinds to watch the sun rise almost every moment. She's really quiet about opening the curtains. She sometimes cries and and hides herself under her bed. 'Stupid Stupid Stupid cat...' It's... hard to listen to that without infringing on her privacy."
The renamon sighed and shook her head. She was more keen on listening in on holly than syre. Because with syre she felt she could approach her about anything, with anything and the youth would respond well. With holly and the things that had happened lately K was collecting herself again to be fully supportive.
"Hmm. Six times I believe. Excluding times like the mausoleum incident. Or that other week stint before the library. Seeing it like this... gives me hope that others can live a peaceful life like I could when I was a child."

As K would give a scratch at his side, Mikemon would return a slight nuzzle to that arm, clearly cozy as he lied against K's leg. He let out a small breath as K explained how Holly still watched the sunrise... as well as the unfortunate self-loathing that she had developed. There, Mikemon shared that sigh.
He'd told the fox everything before, of course. "She's going through a rough patch, and we'll be there to support her and help her through it. Where she is... well, its only understandable that she'd be confused as to 'what she's supposed to be'. Heck, I haven't a clue what would be best for her." But he was confident that, in the end, Holly would figure out what was best for her.
She'd been here six times, outside the times she was 'forced'? The cat blinked, sharing that sentiment - but before he could start speaking, that cable car approached and entered the top station, a quaint wooden cabin built on the side of the mountain. Stepping up, the cat would step out of the car, and past a small bar and sitting area, to the back deck.
The moment he stepped out, Mikemon would cross his arms over his chest, feeling a slight chill run over his body - but that feeling soon fell away as he cast his gaze towards the horizon. This was the top of this mountain, but Terabyte still stretched on in the distance, as if to try and scrape the sky above. Below was a picturesque valley, K and Mikemon high enough up to see those grays and whites merge to a gritty, pleasing blue, streams of light and shadow casting beautifully over the landscape.
"When you get all the way up here, you can see for miles... heh. Makes me wonder what the view's like waaaaay up there..."

K slowly ran a hand along mikemon's fur, quietly flicking an ear as mikemon spoke, his sigh already speaking volumes about how he felt. K closed her eyes and shared that small sigh, mostly out of worry and concern. She'd gently and firmly place a hand on his shoulder. Her tone however was stern; surprisingly motherly in the way she was addressing this. She had been thinking about what to do with her daughter for a long time.
"Get her out of that life. That's what we need to do, she won't be able to think in conditions like that. She'll be just ushered along doing what they tell her. The best thing for her is giving her room to grow and she can't have that room if she's... doing that. What we shouldn't be focusing on is the path she takes or the path she's on, but what the problems she's facing right now. The problem being that guild and the problem being her attachment to the ideas she's gathered. Out of both of us she idolizes you. Don't use that to your advantage, use that to help her."
K knew what she was talking about, if holly was left to her own devices people would just take advantage of her. That shademon had done so... what would happen if luminas sunk their fangs deep into her daughter's core? Shaking her head the renamon glanced out the window and as the cable car approached, entered and stopped at the station she'd Follow the doctor out of the car.
The wind and chill hit the both of them, but unlike the mikemon she was built for this sort of weather. There was a one, two, three moment of the renamon stopping, sweeping her cape around and gently blocking the wind from her partner's body while still allowing him to move on his own accord.
She'd exhale slowly, but unlike many mon's that would come up here...well... She was comfortable in this sort of environment. It showed, and it would keep showing as she stared at that horizon. They were at the top of this mountain but she could see terabyte off in the distance. She'd slowly look up.. and up... and up. She'd mumble softly and look down at her hands.
"I've... seen the view once."
She remembered the bitter cold, the freezing slashing winds. She remembered the climb, her paws and arms were sore. She remembered every struggle, every frozen body... She had even found a few friends there. Well. Travelers at least. She remembered getting to the top, she remembered looking out and being able to see for so far. So long... she remembered seeing those dragons playing and dancing. Those spirits that had followed her, seeking her passage. She'd exhale very slowly, sighing deeply and speaking in a mumble...
"It's... beyond breath-taking..."

K had a point: feeling that firm hand on his shoulder, he let out a long breath, carefully listening to K as she spoke. It was true: that guild, right now, was not the best influence on her. All they saw was her drive and potential - they couldn't, and never would, simply see Holly for 'Holly'. At least, that was the reasoning in Mikemon's head.
"Alright... alright. I'll do what I can. Whether she's a doctor, a teacher, or just someone who wants to help out mom or dad... we'll put her on the right track, and support her. And don't worry, I'm not going to use Holly, K." He gave a warm smile - just as the two would reach the summit.
Sheltered briefly by K's cape, he gave a nod of thanks, keeping a mental note to bring his cloak for trips outside like this. He adapted fairly quickly, and soon they were able to see the landscape before them. This was a height they could reach with a cable car, but Terabyte? Oh, that mountain was a completely different story, something that neither of them would likely ever -
... Mikemon blinked, looking over towards K. She'd been to the summit? He couldn't even imagine it, both the horrifying cold, the cutting winds, the trial it must have taken to force herself that far up. As she mentioned the view, the cat gave a smile.
"... God, there's just so much we don't know about each-other, even now." He gave a chuckle, shaking his head. "Guess that's what happens when you get as old as we are."
He let that thought fall into the silence, as the sun slowly started to slip behind that unforgiving mountain. The cat, well, he couldn't even imagine living out here in the practical tundra. But K had a good part of her life out here, hadn't she?
"... You ever miss it?"

K knew how it felt to be used by people, she knew how it felt for them using her skills for their own ends. She understood it so badly that she couldn't allow and wouldn't allow someone else to do so to her daughter. She'd smile down at the mikemon and gave him a cheerful pat on the shoulder.
"I know you won't Dear. But do be careful all right? She thinks so highly of you it'd be difficult to not end up forcing her to go one way or another by accident."
She'd hum softly and look around for a few moments longer. Glad that her husband was quick to adapt to this area. She stared out along the summit for what seemed to her to be an endless amount of time. She could feel this wind blowing against her, she could feel how it cut into her fur. Or tried to cut into it. She'd stare up and up and up... her breath shakily exhaling as she sort of zoned out for a moment.
"...It'd be lovely if we could just... sit down and chat about things like this wouldn't it...? And pft... I suppose! What I'm pushing... one or so thousand years? Maybe more? I didn't have a grasp of time all too well until the inn started up and even then!"
The fox placed a hand on her arm and continued to stare up further. She could feel that pull towards the peaks, she could feel that desire to climb and climb and... She'd jolt a bit and put a hand to her head.
"...I miss the idea of peace. I miss the idea of just... living. But... I wouldn't trade what I have now... I'm willing to fight so that others don't have to. You know that dear..."
