Does a dragon like shiny things? (Carlos/private)

Sleeping in the great outdoors was never an issue for the dragon who more often than not found himself preferential to a night spent in the slumber in the cool dry drafts of the digital world with the sound of it’s macrocosms as his lullaby - he had to admit, human beds were cozy, but there was just something mysteriously sentimental about nesting in lush grass. “Was I born in the forest in another life? Couldn’t be, dragons are mountain dwellers are they not?” The thought rang in Simba’s head as he shook the sleep from his lanky form and instinctively went to go look inside the hollowed out long dead tree he’d been resting in front of, arching his torso over the small entryway on top, making sure not to wake the sleeping human and rabbit curled up tightly together inside like infants - unfortunately the tree wasn’t quite big enough for three averaged sized lifeforms and so Simba had volunteered to slumber outside to act as a lookout - while he could have easily fit in with them as a hackmon, the dragon decided it was more practical for him to remain as a champion in case any unwanted company came their way. “Can’t disturb them just yet.” Leaving the duo to remain in lull, the dragon padded off in a sort of sotto voce pattern towards another part of the forest. “If cats can climb trees, why can’t I?” Using his fronts claw as as a grip, the dragon punctured his blade shaped back legs into the bark of the tree, shifting his weight into his forelegs to pull upwards, once again taking advantage of his strangely shaped back limbs, this time using his tail as a lever until he reached a top branch large enough for him to sit on. “Well that wasn’t bad, I am kinda out of breath though.” But gaining endurance for this kind of thing would come with time right? “Now to see if I can jump.” After taking a second to recover Simba glance around for another branch within reasonable leaping distance. “This should work, ah!” Unfortunately, the dragon’s back legs were very good for climbing but not flexible enough for jumping it seemed - spring back as much as his stiff legs could, Simba dove and dove but evidently hadn’t been able to put enough horsepower into the leap it seemed as he nearly seemed to fall in mid air, flailing to grab onto the branch which seemed to be just out of paws reach. Apparently he had an Angemon on his shoulder that day because the dragon managed to somehow pull himself up to the bridge. “Well, that wasn’t smooth but I guess the pretty landing comes later.”And despite that he’d grown up significantly within these past months, Simba was still Simba at his core. “Ouch!” He’d stepped on something spiky on his way back to the tree, looking down to see a grumpy (and tiny) looking Budmon under his paw. “Be careful, you almost squashed me like a fruit! Dumb big digimon never look where they’re going....” He couldn’t help but find it hilarious that something so small and adorable looking could get so angry. “Heh sorry…” The funny moment ended rather quickly however when the dragon smelled something foreign in the forest approaching and naturally his tail went up to stand in a J shape, body language which said he was alerted and ready. Upon returning to the dwelling, he could see the human and the rabbit were still asleep but something was approaching the site, what he didn’t know, but for now Simba would wait in a nearby tree branch to see just who this arrival was, settled on his launches, his red hood having been pulled up by earlier’s romping. What had driven the duo of a man and his impmon partner to leave the relative safety of their base of operations when they should have been resting? In one word, boredomn. In another, curiosity. Both came into their every day life hand in hand, one being the emotion that ruled over most of the days following their recovery after recent events, the latter as an escape to the former.
Because one such boring day the man noticed his digivice going haywire, marking a spot a good distance away from the Library where a small scale disturbance was popping up. Not big enough to be something particularly game changing if left unattended, but it was hard to ignore. So of course, the best course of action was to sneak out of the place and start looking for the origin of that signature without warning. It was either that, or spend another day reading and doing pretty much nothing of worth in the Library.
It didn’t took them much more than some minutes of flight via Devidramon to reach the general area of their destination. The two of them made their way deep into the forest, unsure of what to expect, but not particularly nervous over it either, at least not while they were still ways from the exact spot.
It took them a good deal of walking in circles and semi circles to find the zone, but eventually with some perseverance they managed to find it.
The first red flag was how there was nothing noteworthy to say about the area with the disturbance. No bizarre glitches in the code, no weird anomalous entities, not even an odd rock. All there was to be seen were trees and more trees. The only really thing that popped out was a rather large looking fallen tree trunk. Having very little else to actually inspect, the man slowly approached it, noticing first that it was actually hollow…and then that there was something inside.
With the utmost care, the man took a peek into the hollowed out stump, and what he found there was…unexpected. Really, how else would you describe the sight of a pale, white haired girl sleeping alongside a Lopmon inside a hollow tree? It was such an odd find the man was rendered speechless for a moment, as he took a step back to let his partner look and make sure he wasn’t imagining things.
Dio’s eyes widened with plates at what he saw in the tree, before he asked, “Just to be sure, humans don’t come out of trees, right?”

Living in the city Talia had become acclimated to sleeping with the sound of police sirens and garbage trucks on the regular - throw that in with the fact she was still in recovery and what do you get? A very heavy sleeper, that’s what. Tohru however, being part carnivore, had ears that could detect the disturbance of a single blade of grass - therefore the sound of Devidramon’s wings flapping reached her auditory senses far before the duo were even ten feet from the ground, and if her dragon side gave her strong senses, her leporid side endowed the instinct to know how to act for exigency. See, being a half breed wasn’t all bad! Tohru remained still even as Carlos and Dio approached the tree and as they spoke, a flag of familiarity seemed to go off in her head, and any heightened instincts and adrenaline ceased. In fact, so much so that the thought of how she was going to explain to the boy that his mate was in a different body had yet to cross her mind. “I think that they do if they’re Wood Nymphs, but this definitely isn’t the time for a greek mythology lesson.” The rabbit somewhat abruptly popped her head out of the tree’s opening as she spoke. “Also good morning, Carlos and Dio was it? It’s been a while, I don’t know if you remember me, I’m one of Talia’s twins.” The first time they’d met she’d been a nameless moonmon, the second there was more arguing among the humans as opposed to actual talking and about 5 minutes before her human stormed off referring to the man as “Science Slut”, whatever that meant. “Simba? Are you here?” Her brother was supposed to have been on watch but it wouldn’t surprise Tohru in the least if the dragon had gotten distracted chasing a butterfly and run off. “Over here, sis, ah!” The dragon had gone to jump off his branch but nearly slipped in the process before jumping down far less gracefully than he’d wished. “And I’m the other, but last you saw me I was a little dragon.” Now he was about the size of a great dane, standing just a few inches above Carlos’s waist while on his haunches. “Eh, don’t let him fool you, he’s still the same little fraidy cat on the inside with longer legs and a newfound ego.” The rabbit climbed onto the back of his neck, flopping her head over his nape, making her ears hang down the sides of his head. “Am not! You’d be proud, I accidentally got pricked by a Budmon today and didn’t run away!” Hard to believe considering this was a dragon who ran away from geese. “I was wondering where you went, you were supposed to have been protecting Talia you know - oh...” The slipping of the name reminded both twins about the subject at hand that had yet to be discussed. “Ok, there’s a bit of a situation at hand, Carlos.” “A weird one that won’t make any sense so feel free to freak out.” “She’s okay though, ish! Also, what is a Science Slut?” Simba was a bit too immature to understand what had happened between this human and his human so there was no sort of grudge of course (and Tohru didn’t care because she wasn’t one to get involved with her humans love life but yet curious enough to inquire about the strange jargon), but yet the dragon stood staunch between the tree and the other duo, as if wary of the boy having potential to take away his partner. A somewhat familiar voice suddenly addressed the two, and the duo were soon confronted by a small rabbit looking brown digimon, who presented itself as one of Talia’s partners. Carlos nodded, those two were quite a difficult bunch to forget about, to say the least.
“Yeah, I remember you two, Tohru and Simba, right?” He mostly remembered them both as small blob creatures not unlike Dio’s pagumon form, but the last time he had seen Talia they had already evolved into their rookie forms, though he hadn’t had the chance to really talk to them that last time for…obvious reasons.
The big eared lopmon was soon joined by a rather larger dragon creature, who Tohru was quick to confirm as being her own twin.
"Simba? Wow, you two sure grew quite a bit since last time." Carlos said with a smile, before chuckling a bit at Tohru’s comment. "Yeah, don’t worry. I know a thing or two about egos." He looked down, giving Dio a side glance, to which the imp merely replied with a groan. While reunions were all fine and good, the fact these two were here however already made some alarms shoot off inside Carlos’ mind: if they were here, that meant Talia had to be around, right? He figured it was probably better to ask directly about it.
“Right, about that, is Talia here? Cause if so I kinda…wanted to apologize to her.” He admitted, scratching the back of his head awkwardly. She had been right in being angry at him, and now he knew it all too well, he had been lousy at keeping communication with her during the past months. That said, the twins’ words only helped to make Carlos even more anxious.
Situation? He sure didn’t like the sound of that. Was…Talia in any danger? Before he could press them for questions, he found himself a bit stumped by their own query. What did science slut meant? Quite the…tricky question that was.
"That's...let's say not the kind of word I should be teaching you..." He said, blushing ever so slightly, did Talia really think that lowly of him? Dio however didn't seem to mind as much, but rather found himself really, really amused by those two words. It started as a small snicker at first, but grew in intensity until the imp found himself lying belly side up on the floor, laughing his heart out.
"Science slut! That's brilliant!" The imp proclaimed, barely able to breath since he was laughing that hard.
Carlos simply sighed, rolling his eyes but ultimately choosing to ignore the imp, there were more pressing matters right now. Like...figuring out anything that was happening.
"Guys slow down, I can't freak out if you don't tell me what's going on first."

“And you’re still small, Dio!” The dragon couldn’t help but tease the imp just a little, patting him on the head as he did so. “You’re small when you’re a hackmon too silly.” Tohru reminded him, cringing at his apparently forming ego, or was it just digi puberty? “I share the sentiment, you got this one who thinks breathing fire makes him Joe Cool and the other one who thinks knowing how to use a computer makes her cool.” Between scaly boy and the tech dork, someone had to be the level headed mom here right? For a minute, Tohru remained silent at Carlos’s question, coming to the conclusion that there wasn’t going to be an easy way to explain this no matter what. “Yeah, she is…- wait a minute here, how come he gets to know what a Science Slut is and we don’t?!” Tohru said, pointing at the pathetic imp laughing on the ground, getting completely distracted from Carlos’s rather paramount question. “Yeah, just cause he’s a Dark Vader or whatever doesn’t mean we should excluded!” The dragon had meant to say Dark Lord but between those Star Wars marathons and forgetting what Dio called himself since it had been a while created the pseudo Dark Vader title. “Well, all of it started when the three of us went to go help a fellow tamer who’s partner had been corrupted…”Between the influx of new voices jumping back and forth between loud and soft pitches all within the same circumference, the white haired was pulled from her deep slumber, her movement being opening her eyes as she laid still as a Tussaud wax figure, even her facial expression a middle-of-the-road detached one, almost as if she was pondering something. “A second chance isn’t always promised, so why am I not beholden of this rare opportunity?” The first time Talia woke up, the first event consisted of her bursting into tears which had seemed to flood nonstop for days, the woman unable to be consoled by anything except the cuddles of the rabbit and dragon. Tears had turned into fits of irrational anger spurred on by the horrible foreign feeling like a plague eating away at her system, a fury much of which the twins had the unfortunate pleasure of being the center of for the sole reason they were her only nearby companions. Eventually the aggravation and cries had turned numb, eventually giving the girl a deadpan, zombie like state of mind. “And...things got messy, and something had to be done fast, or else…” Listening to his sister narration, Simba lowered his head a little in a stance which screamed guilt, his tail lying flat on the ground. Upon hearing the voice of Carlos, she wasn’t sure whether to be ecstatic, overwrought with grievance, or terrified of what the outcome could be, and with every negative emotion that was pumping its way through her synapses at the moment, the only scenario she could see was her old boyfriend rejecting this new change. By this time, the woman had lifted her head so she was partially sticking out of the hollow tree, watching and listening, biting her lip when she saw Simba’s body language. “It was inevitable and there wasn’t anything that could be done to prevent it.” The sudden “newcomers” tone was strict and matter of fact as she tried to make eye contact with the dragon as she spoke, attempting to reassure him that this situation was by no means his fault. “Be it digital or human, the world isn’t a gameboard with turn choices.” Carlos Rey

"Hmph, I'm sure I'm taller than you in any of my other forms!" The imp spat back at the dragon, annoyance in his tone hiding the fact he was lying through his teeth. Even his tallest form was usually considerably smaller than most digimon of that level, much to his dismay. But Simba didn't need to know that.
"That sounds like her, alright." Carlos laughed in response to Tohru's comment, since he knew for a fact Talia had quite a bit of an ego herself, always happy to let him know how better she was at anything computer related than he was.
At any rate, it would seem finally the twins would give him the explanation he was looking for...or at least it seemed so, before they clearly got annoyed by Dio actually understanding what a "science slut" was. Though Simba's comment was enough to make the imp stop laughing at least, but not in the way Carlos would have wanted.
"Hey! It's Dark Lord, not Dark Vader or whatever that is! Get it right, you flea bitten fool!" The imp said in annoyance, shaking his fists in quite the dramatic way. Carlos could only facepalm at this whole scene, were they really gonna have this discussion now?!
"Guys please! Let's focus on what's important, I can tell you what that means later." The male tamer said, pinching the bridge of his nose as he let out an annoyed sigh. This was a serious matter, not a time to teach two kids about creative insults. But as Tohru recounted their tale, Carlos' expression went from annoyed to confused to worried, all in the span of a couple seconds.
But before she could even elaborate properly something else caught his eye, as he noticed the girl that had been sleeping just close to them had finally awoken, and. Even if Tohru had not finished her story, it was clear to Carlos and Dio what was happening. As soon as the white haired girl spoke the two of them froze in place, eyes widened in a look of complete befuddlement. The impmon didn't move, but the man didn't waste any time and, while slowly, he started making the way towards the girl. The girl he now knew for a fact, could only be...
"Talia..." Her face, her eyes, her entire being looked different, sure...but he could have picked her voice apart from a crowd of hundreds. Her dulcet tone of voice was not something he could easily forget, nor something that he ever wanted to forget. The thought alone of that voice had guided him through incredibly dark times, even those where Talia had not been around for. But what had happened to her?
The man would kneel close to the pale girl, one hand reaching out to gently caress her cheek, both trying to offer his support and as if to make sure what he was seeing was indeed a real, tangible thing. And then he asked her a question. A simple, honest question filled with nothing but the utmost worry and care for the individual in front of him.
"...what happened to you?"

“Not as tall as Tohru when she’s Antylamon I bet though!” Oh great, he was dragging her into this? The twins had only met the imp a few times but Tohru knew if this kept up they could be here for hours debating with the tiny dark lord. “And you’ll always be the youngest out of us no matter what,” she said, teasing her brother a bit, who seemed to dramatically sink to his paws when he was reminded of such. “I c-can’t help that though! Hey wait, I can’t get fleas, I’m a dragon!” Tohru patted him on the head. “And we won’t hold it against you, sound good?” Besides, she’d have one less thing to taunt him about if that wasn’t the case. “Try not to take him personally, you know how teenagers can be!”
She agreed though as she turned her head towards the now awake woman, wondering if she should give her away by using her name but felt in that moment that it wasn’t her place to do so. “Welp, good morning sleeping beauty, did you rest okay?” She worried more often than not about the woman’s mental wellbeing more than she did physical, as she knew from experience that physical scars were much easier to mend than cerebral ones were, but that didn’t stop Tohru from wishing she could use her power to fix them. “Very much so, thanks to having you two to hold of course.” The bunny blushed, flattered by her compliments which she quickly shrugged off. “Well, it does get cold here at night and we need to keep our body temperatures stable…” Talia chucked at her reaction - leave it to Tohru to deflect sentimentality with practicality? “It’s a long story.” At that moment she resisted the urge to snark about him being too busy with his science club to have time to listen and despite the utter sadness that thought put into her, knowing he would likely leave her eventually to go back with them, she knew this wasn’t the time for discussing such things. In fact up until this point, the woman had been filled with nothing but contempt and utmost spite for the man before her but yet looking into his warm brown eyes made that feeling of fury impossible to hold onto and at the same time it made her want to run away instead of facing the truth - but the fact she was still inside the log made that a bit difficult so instead she started to panic, feeling too frazzled to be able to be able to get out properly, and as a last resort, did something she usually hated - asking for help. “Before I say, can you do me a favor? This log is easier getting in than out of...ehehe.”Once she was free, that fear started up again and she glanced towards the woods as if pondering running away but she was quickly distracted by a head rubbing her hand, looking down to see Simba affectionately nuzzling her to which she affectionately stroked the top of his head, a part of her wishing he’d go back to being a rookie so she could pick him up but part of her also appreciated how majestic and noble baohuckmon was. “It all started when the three of us went to go help someone who was in trouble but when we got there things were far worse, and it turned out to be a case of a corrupted digimon…”

Dio, clearly not patient enough to keep dealing with Simba's somewhat cocky attitude simply threw his hands in the air with a huff. It was never fun to be reminded time and time again about his size. Though at the very least he found some respite thanks to Tohru driving the dragon's attention away from that subject.
Didn't keep him from angrily mumbling something about some lizard face being smugger than he was or something to that effect.
Meanwhile Carlos didn't waste any time in approaching the girl in the log, wordlessly reaching out to help her out of the wooden "hideout". In any other situation, he would have probably taken the oportunity to tease the hell out of her, the proud and stubborn Talia for needing to ask him for help, but...it just didn't feel right. Not only because it wasn't right to do so in such a situation but...he couldn't help but feel an odd disconnection to the girl in front of her. Deep down he knew it was Talia, sure, but it was incredibly difficult to take in just how different she was now.
The imp was clearly as confused as his tamer , trying to inspect her more closely...well, as close an inspection as a digimon below her waist could do. "I don't get it, weren't you blonde?"
That rather blunt question only earned him a (relatively) light slap on the back of the head from Carlos, which truth be told hurt his ego more than it hurt his head. "H-hey! What did I do now?!"
Carlos ignored his indignant partner's protests, focusing his full attention to his significant other's recounting of the events, though it didn't take him long to sigh, pinching the bridge of his nose again as he did. Corrupted digimon...could that be in any way related to the corruption he encountered in Old Terminus all that time ago?
"Corrupted digimon? Talia, that's..." He'd stopped himself from saying anything else, knowing full well that telling her that she should stay out of trouble would be not only impossible in the Digital World, but also rather incredibly hypocritical coming from him. "...so what happened next?"

“Don’t worry about it.” Smiling, the woman bent down and gave the imp a scratch on the head before gently scooping him up in her arms holding him as she would a small toddler. “I remember how spunky you were as Pagumon! It’s good to see that hasn’t changed.” Seeing Dio be coddled by his human, Simba couldn’t help but make an expression that was akin to that face an empty handed kid makes when they see one kid get a fancy looking whipped cream topped treat from a coffee shop, so much so that the reverted down to his hackmon form just to compete with the kid devil for the woman’s attention. “I know, trust me, it’s more than what you’re probably assuming.” It was her line of work to risk her life, but could she really risk letting him know that? The dragon was stopping from going to paw at the woman by a light pull on his tail retaining the distance between them as Tohru reminded her brother of the situation at hand. “Let her speak first, I promise you’ll get a hug later.” Childish and impatient, her brother wasn’t too strong when it came to self control, and the rabbit knew this wasn’t a time for her human to be interrupted. “The digimon was the partner of a human who had another partner as well, twins like I do, and when the three of us arrived, it was apparent that the corrupted twin believed we were intending to harm her human, and became highly violent, to the point of beyond reasoning with.” As she spoke, Talia subconsciously petted the top of the imp’s head, using his cuddles as a security blanket of sorts to keep herself at a standstill while rehashing the events that lead up to this present - feeling self conscious and embarrassed in front of her boyfriend as it was, it was almost ironic how the imp in her arms probably had no idea he was keeping the woman from being further humiliated by becoming emotional in all of this. “What have the two of you been up to since we saw you last?” She’d pondered asking about the science club but was worried it would open a whole different can of worms so instead made sure to give an inquiry that was far more neutral - that and she wanted to give her significant other a chance to take this all in for a minute. “S-sorry...I know this is all kind of sudden, I wasn’t expecting I’d see you again to be honest.” Why seek her out when he had an entire group of women to choose from after all? “At first, the tamer wanted us to try and help her bring her partner back to normal but it quick to see what had happened was incorrigible, and so the plan changed to defeating the corruptee to the point where she would revert to a digitama, but it just seemed like the more we fought, the harder and stronger they got…” Knowing her tale was getting close to the ugly part, anxiety started to build up in her chest, making the girl squeeze the imp like a scared child holding a teddy bear for comfort. "H-huh? Hey, stop! The Dark Lord is not a mere stuffed animal to be hugged!" The imp protested outraged as he was suddenly lifted by the girl. What was it with taller females lifting him up like this? First Bloom, now Talia, was it all a huge conspiracy to annoy him? It sure felt like it!
Funnily enough, any kind of resistance that Dio might have put over being hugged like this stopped the exact moment Talia began gently patting his head, the small imp stopping his struggling as he relaxed, letting himself be cuddled by the girl's emprace, his tail even waving a bit back and fort like that of a content cat. If there was anything Carlos could say about his partner its that he was at the very least consistent: he had always been very easy to handle with the right amount of cuddling. Specially by Talia, almost as if the egomaniac had a soft spot for her, apparently he still had fond memories of being a Pagumon in her appartment and being spoiled with all manner of tasty treats. Well, hopefully her own partners wouldn't get too jealous over the attention Dio was getting.
"You always had a way with kids, didn't you?" The man joked with a small laugh. Alas, it was not to last as Talia continued her tale, her story getting progressively darker the longer it went on. So much so it was clear it made Talia rather uncomfortable to think about, so Carlos was quick to reply to her question as if to help her momentarily distract herself.
"Us? We've been all over really. Went to a lot of places and met too many new faces to count. Oh and Dio digivolved a couple of times. You should have seen him, he didn't stop smirking for a full day." He of course casually avoided the subject of his partner and himself nearly dying on multiple occasions, not wanting to make the girl feel even worse.
And yet...he could easily guess why his significant other would ask such things. After all, who had pretty much dissapeared off the face of the earth as soon as he found the digital world and never made any attempts to contact the human world? He knew he only had himself to blame for whatever she felt about him...and maybe for whatever had happened to her. "Talia, why wouldn't I want to see the girl I love again?"
He sighed, before gently placing one hand on the pale girl's shoulder, trying to comfort her. "Listen, it's ok. I can tell this was hard for you, you don't have to give me the full story yet if you're uncomfortable."

“Of course you aren’t. You’re a delicate living thing who should be treated as such. But you definitely are a good cuddle pal…and a fabulous lord at that.” Talia had never really considered herself the maternal type at all but she did find she was particularly fond of digimon, feeling a bit of a sympathetic and protective connection to them, one that had seemed to increase after her accident? Or was that just the data part of her talking now? “Don’t ever change okay?” Part of her job was to make sure digimon like Dio could continue to have such an idyllic outlook on things, to show them that not all humans held wicked intentions. “Me? Hardly, I just find an enjoyment from surrounding myself with digimon, besides you’re not a kid right Dio? He’s the bravest Dark Lord there is!”She omitted to respond to him mentioning meetings tons of new people and new places, resisting the urge to make a comment about how he’d yet never managed or tried to find her in the process. It was a seemingly semi automatic thought pattern she wasn’t proud of yet that couldn’t seem to go away while she still held harsh feelings towards the boy for his error. “Heh, the twins have made it to higher forms also - Tohru just evolved to ultimate recently and becomes what I can only describe as...the easter bunny influenced by heavy metal. And what you see here is Simba’s champion form - he hasn’t quite made it to the next stage but I know he’ll get there soon enough.” Giving Dio a chance at freedom she put him down to input her affection on the twins, plopping down between them ready to finish her story if Carlos wished. It was however interrupted by a remark that made her do a ‘really? You’re pulling that now?’ kind of expression and as opposed to answering him directly, the woman nervously whispered into Tohru’s ear. “Well you did sort of cut off contact with her so she doesnt know if she can believe the love thing, but with time she could again.” Hopefully the human didn’t take it personally - being around her human required lots of patience sometimes! For a few minutes the woman sat in silence while simultaneously giving headpats to both Tohru and Simba, wondering just how things would go if she continued on. “Eventually we got the upperhand but as I said, it was like cutting off an arm and watching three more grow in its place, and just as things started to go well there was an accident...I thought it was the end for me but...the tamer I had been helping had something up her sleeve. In essence, instead of watching my life flash before me and passing on, my fate was to wake up in this body.” Actually, death might have been easier compared to the aftermath of this complicated card she’d dealt. “But I wish it was that simple.”

Why was it so easy to utterly disarm the imp through simple and gentle gestures like hugs? It was hard to tell, but the best way guess Carlos had was just how that was something Dio had barely experienced before. The gentle and protective embrace of someone that cared for his safety was probably not something he came across a lot in the Dark Area, so it was only natural for him to freeze up like a deer in headlights at such a moment, his cheeks even glowing with a hint of a blush as if he was ashamed of himself over reacting so...immaturely at something this simple.
"I-I'm not delicate!" He'd stammered back, trying and failing to preserve some of his pride somehow. "...I am quite fabulous, however." He conceded, somewhat defeated but not completely saddened either by her words. Far from it, he was actually starting to enjoy himself with all the complimenting, a small smile (or was it a smirk?) forming in his lips.
"That's right! I fear no one." He replied happily, while Carlos obviously rolled his eyes a bit, but otherwise kept quiet.
"They sure grow up fast, huh." he smiled while patting the impmon's head, much to the latter's annoyance.
After the imp was finally released he'd simply quietly go back to his tamer's side, not saying a word, though it was clear as day he seemed quite pleased with himself right now. Unfortunately Carlos couldn't really say the same, grimacing a bit at the Lopmon somewhat harsh words. He knew they weren't undeserved, but they still cut deeper than any knife could.
"That's...quite a lot to take in." He said once she was done recounting her harrowing experience, the man simply shaking his head. Truth be told he wasn't quite sure what else to say, this situation was so far removed from anything he had experienced prior, he simply didn't know what to even say. "Are you feeling fine? Anything hurts?"

Smiling as Dio said he didn’t fear anyone the woman couldn’t help but pick him up one more time so they were making eye contact. “You should keep it that way - living life is important and it shouldn’t be halted because of fear - keep that in mind for me okay? And don’t worry because if you ever do get scared, you have Carlos at your side, and you have me and the twins too and no matter what happens, we’ll always be here for you.”
She was poked by Simba while setting the imp down again, the dragon looking up at her with begging eyes that were particularly reserved for things like sweets and pork cutlets and in this case, being allowed freedom to explore the forest once more. “Taliaa, could I please please go play?” Well luck behold! The request came in perfect timing because the woman was hoping to have some time to sit down by herself with her boyfriend - not that Talia considered the digimon a burden or anything but rather she was looking forward to a bit of sentimentality? As in the carefree but loving couple they’d been back before all of this had started. Heck, maybe they could even get to a modified version of that place?
“Sure buddy, why don’t you take Dio and Tohru with you too?” Talia couldn’t help but emphasize while mentioning the rabbits name hinting that she wished to be alone with the human. It was a request that would fly over Simba’s head faster than a red tailed hawk chasing a vol but in Tohru’s head would catch the target right with its talons. So much so that the rabbit let out a bit of a deep sigh as if to say ‘the things I do for you’. That included apparently having to babysit both an obnoxious dork lord and her little brother. “You guys can ride on my back too, hop on!” Tohru climbed on first, making eye contact with the imp. “You coming? After all, royalty doesn’t walk right?”
And once the trio was trotting off Talia sat down in the grass, patting the spot next to her to invite the man down. “I’m a bit weak and tired and...I don’t know, uncomfortable? But no, I don’t have any real pain.” She sat quietly, pausing from her story to let Carlos process much of what he’d just heard, and even went to rest her head on the man’s shoulder. “Heh, do you remember the day we first met at my office when your band came to do a demo? And I told you in the breakroom those cookies were for staff only and you thought I was serious?”

Dio simply looked in silence at the pale girl, somewhat taken aback both for being picked up yet again and just how...sincere her words at him were. It was kind of surprising to him but it really felt like Talia really cared for his well being, almost as if he were just another partner to her.
Perhaps because of this, perhaps just sympathy for her situation he didn't took offence by being grabbed again but rather just...nodded in silence a bit. "I will remember that."
With that done he would just quietly return by Carlos' side, visibly still thinking about what she just told him...not that it would last long however, as the man was quick to turn to the small purple demon. "That could be fun, why don't you go with them, Dio?" He said, clearly wanting to give himself and his significant other a nice, calm moment for themselves.
Dio however, wasn't exactly thrilled that he was basically being forced into a glorified nanny duty with the other two. "But I..." The imp opened his mouth to speak, but closed it just as quickly. He could tell by Carlos' puppy eyed glare that he was supposed to leave the humans alone. If that's what they wanted, there was really nothing he could do about it, was there? "Tch, fine!" he said, throwing his arms up in defeated annoyance.
"You bet your sorry behind I don't, now give me some space!" He replied to Tohru as he climbed on top of the white dragon, not really feeling like putting up with her sass. Geez, if these humans wanted space so much they could just say so.
As soon as the trio of mons left the white dyed man sat on the grass next to Talia, a sigh of relief now that they were on their own for a while. How long had it been since they had a moment for themselves? Too long ago, that was for sure.
"Well, at least I'm glad it doesn't like...hurt." He nodded, not quite sure how to take her answer, but content he didn't have to worry too much. Despite this he couldn't help but chuckle a bit at her comment. He sure as hell remembered those days.
"Do I ever...you looked so uptight and proper in that officinist like outfit of yours. Way better than the dork thinkin leather vests looked cool at least." He chuckled, blushing ever so slightly as the memories came back. It was hard not to feel just a bit embarrassed looking back at his younger self.
"Heh, if I think hard enough I can still taste them. Those were some damn good cookies. You never told me where you got those."

“Awww, do you want a velvet mat too your majesty?” Knowing the two foot dark lord he would probably say yes but Tohru couldn’t help but make fun of his whole gimmick. But to be honest she wasn’t sure which was funnier - seeing Dio get mad when she didn’t take the overlord thing seriously or when she made a joke about it that flew overhead and fueled his ego. “If they don’t walk, do they fly instead? Cause you don’t have wings like a bird!” Simba had always wondered what being able to soar in the air was like, but alas he’d not been born a fowl or a jet which was fine by him - birds couldn’t breathe fire after all! “Also you shouldn’t take it so personally, humans are weirdly flip floppity like that. They wanna be alone and 5 minutes later they want you with them and then in another 5 minutes they want you go to away!” If only they could be more standard like digimon! But it made Tohru wonder - were digimon really all that simple in their emotions and thoughts? As far as expertise royalty and her brother went, besides what he’d seen in disney movies, the dragon didn’t know much about it meant to be royal aside really from that they wore crowns and bossed people around - the rest was a bit intangibly contextual for his little kid mind. “Any place or direction in particular I should go, Tohru?” The question pulled the rabbit from her existential thoughts leaving her to pause until later. “Lets just explore! Just no water, I doubt his royal highness wants to get his hair wet!”
Talia debated not telling the boy out of pure shyness that she quite liked the leather vest on him but hey when you had a near death experience what reason was there to hide secrets anymore? “Well I mean I thought you were handsome and tall and pretty nonetheless, leather always looks nice on a man, even in the form of a dorky vest…and then you found me at the festival in that Madoka cosplay and then I was worried you saw me as a weirdo or something.” Being there was that whole nerd culture stigma thing but little she did know, the musician might have even been more of a dork than she was. Along with his bandmates who were basically a bunch of big kids. “I made them, silly. Why do you think they tasted so good?” You definitely couldn’t get that homemade flavor out of a box. “Since I was the office newbie at the time I wanted to make something to kind of impress my coworkers, and I guess I did for you too unexpectedly?” Part of Talia was enjoying this conversation and another part was feeling somewhat bittersweet with the knowledge that she might have to say goodbye in the future, if she could even muster the courage to do so.
