You know, she couldn't really blame Kenny's own reaction to Helvetica's origins... Digimon truly were extremely alien to humans like her and Kenny, and there were bound to be weirder. "Ah they're nothing. This really is only the tip of the iceberg of weirdness... but hey, one thing at a time man. One thing at a time." she ended up mentioning, figuring that any conversations about Spirit Wielders would be for way later.
All things considered, Akari felt relieved she was able to at least give someone like Kenny a bit of a better leash on this whole Digimon thing... It took her some time before she got all the answers she needed immediately, not to mention get into a life-threatening situation or two... Still, they both actually had much to learn about being tamers; she just figured it wouldn't hurt to help someone around her level out as well. He seemed like a nice guy actually... a rarity frankly these days.
Well, yes... she would be scared for Helvetica's livelyhood, but at the same time there was something inherently off about Helvetica... something that told her that this was a non-issue. Still, it probably would have been weird to say something like that around Kenny or even Helvetica for that matter... Guess a little harmless lying wouldn't hurt.
"Of course I would be afraid... I put a lot of my faith into her, and I feel it is my duty to help care for her... help her grow strong enough to be able to protect what we desire." Akari ended up responding, silently musing about the dangers of this role... This was not an anime, the consequences were very real if something went wrong. Helvetica was strong, but not strong enough. "At the same time, I can't rely on her for everything... We both need to put our all into this partnership. If she is putting herself on the line for my sake, I also have to for hers... it is only fair that way."
It was only about then Akari noted how quiet Helvetica was being... only to realize that the small seed had actually fell asleep in her lap. "Oh gee, guess we tuckered her out... She really is like a kid honestly. Poor things needs to sleep and eat all the time." she idly mused as she slipped the sleeping Yuramon back in her pocket. She supposed it was getting to that point where she would need to get moving again; Xenica was wanting some books from the local library... something about nazca lines? Still, she supposed it was a good idea to keep an eye on Kenny... he seemed like he could be a really useful ally if they could help him along as a tamer. "Hey, Kenny? You care if I can say a word? I need to get going, but if you have questions you can call me with this number... I'll try to answer them as best as I can. If you could, maybe also give me a holler whenever Mallimon DOES Digivolve?" she ended up asking, taking out her cell and pulling up her contacts for Kenny to add her number.

Kenny just felt a twang of relief when Akari told him what basically boiled down to 'none taken', which was always good. She had a point. Digimon were pretty weird, and this was just the beginning. "Yeah, you're right. Let's just take this one at a time, as you said." He chuckled lightly. Frankly, all this talk about DigiTama, werebeasts, Digivices, Rookie levels, Champion levels and all that were weird and hard-to-comprehend enough; God, Buddha and Arceus willing, he'd be able to wrap his head around all this as soon as possible.
As Akari expressed her feelings towards Helvetica's safety, he looked at his Mallimon again. Akari seemed quite gung-ho about wanting to do good for Helvetica herself. Despite their little back-and-forths between each other that he and Mallimon witnessed, there seemed to be a warm tinge that radiated off the duo. Like a baby penguin relying on their dad for warmth. "I understand, man. I honestly want to do good by Mallimon myself. She's a good kid... dust bunny... monster... baby werebeast thing." He remarked, stroking the Mallimon's soft furry hair, "Lord knows, she seems pretty keen to impress me and do good by me, so you do have a good point there." It seemed that having a Digimon would come with quite a bit of sacrifice on both ends. He wasn't exactly sure if he was ready for it just yet, but if the Mallimon was going to do everything in her power not to let him down, then he would have to return the favour himself. Not that he was going to complain about that.
It had occurred to Kenny that he and Akari had talked so much that Helvetica fell asleep. As Akari remarked about Helvetica as she put the baby alien back in her pocket, a small thought came to his head once again. Not big, but still; for being baby aliens who could vocalise full sentences and talk about some admittedly dark shit at times, Akari was right; they were still like kids. He felt the Mallimon yawn a little bit as she slowly slumped into his lap, like if she just transformed into live putty and was now starting to melt in the hot summer sun. It was then Akari popped the question; she had to go now, but before she did, she asked him to take down her number, mainly just in case the Mallimon digivolved.
She was right. It was getting a little late. Already his mind was formulating on how he was going to explain this to his dad. But best let Akari not know. Maybe at a later time? "Sure thing." He replied, looking over at the phone and taking her number. Even when she cited herself as not exactly being the biggest beacon of Digimon knowledge, she was quite the boon today trying to comprehend all this. "That reminds me, I gotta give you my number too." He opened his own contacts list to show his number for Akari to take down herself.
"I'll be staying around here a little while longer." He pulled his backpack off his back and zipped it open again. Quickly moving some stuff around, he put the Mallimon inside, the Blaziken plushie squishing against her soft body, and zipped it mostly up, only letting out a little gap to let the Mallimon say goodbye and see Akari off, "But sure, I'll make sure I'll call you when Mallimon digivolves. I mean, you've been a great help today, thank you." He smiled at the blonde teen. He wasn't lying, but for someone who claimed to not know much about these Digimon, she seemed to know a lot more than what was to be expected.
"Thanks for everything today, you two! You guys are great!" Mallimon squeaked from inside the bag. Granted, Helvetica wasn't likely to hear this because she was... you know, too busy being asleep and stuck in a pocket, but hey, it's the thought that counts, right?

All things considered, Akari was pleased that Kenny seeming accepting of Mallimon… Might have helped he had someone to talk to about this, unlike her who had to learn about Digimon the hard way. It wasn’t easy putting your trust in a stranger, but that was something vital she felt if either of them were to be successful tamers. Maybe it was corny to say, but perhaps a bit of mutual trust and care would go a long way? ”I think you two will do just fine. Hey, gotta start somewhere.. right? Beats being attacked by giant spider women.” she chuckled, taking a slight jab at her own first experiences as a tamer… it however was her best attempt at least reassuring him that things will work out eventually.
Heck, maybe one day they’d both be pretty bigshot tamers? The world was limitless if you had the drive to make a mark on it.
Nonetheless, it was fortunate that Kenny at least open to the idea of they trading numbers… It was perhaps for the best after all. People like them needed to stick together; it wasn’t something they could entrust to just anyone. ”Good thinking.” she commended him, taking the time to add his contact as well. ”Take your time. Shibuya has much to offer. I’d offer some pointers, but it’ll have to wait… Unfortunately, hospitality is a trait people forget a lot these days.” she ended adding, smiling demurely. Someone has to step up to that plate at least… it was a rare side of Akari to be so warm and humble, but here she was not needing to cultivate the image of her being a strong, independent woman.
It felt nice.
”It was a pleasure to meet you little one… Don’t cause Kenny too much trouble, though don’t be afraid to bite his fingers off in his sleep.” she ended up lightly joking, unable to help herself from laughing from the absurdity of it. Still, she did had to get going… as far as her parents knew, she was still at the library. ”Alright you two, take care. Keep in touch with me if you have questions or news.” she warmly spoke as she got off the bench the pair of tamers had been on, making sure briefly Helvetica was tucked nice and comfy in her pocket before leaving the quaint, little landmark.
Plenty of room for them all to improve… She’d have to work on that sometime. Helvetica was going to need more data soon...

'Giant Spider Woman?' Well, after all the really weird shit (yes, it was helpful, and she was more than likely telling the truth here, if her sincere tone was anything to go by, but let's be honest with ourselves here) that Akari, Helvetica and Mallimon told Kenny today, giant spider people weren't exactly out of the question. Still, it was nice that she had quite a bit of faith in them. "Heh, thanks man. " He said, sharing that same chuckle with Akari (although Mallimon just blinked inside the bag). Even a dead goldfish could figure out Kenny was no stranger to dark humour himself.
After Akari took his number, hinting at what Shibuya had in store for him, she commented about hospitality being quite the rarity nowadays. "Well, at least I know somebody here today didn't forget." He said, looking at Akari. Granted, the conversation did get into some dark topics, especially the sort of stuff any sane person would logically not say in any other conversation that didn't just happen to be this one, but it seemed Helvetica was pretty used to it, all things considered. But she was right. Shibuya was big, and boisterous. And considering he and Mallimon were new, at least they could get the chance to learn together.
It was at this point Akari said her farewells to the newfounded duo, making a quip about 'biting off his fingers' in the process to the Mallimon, as she departed, presumably back home, her last sentence coated in a warm tone. While this woman was quite brutally honest at times about a lot of things, and had quite a dark sense of humour (she wouldn't be out of place in Australia then), she actually seemed to be really nice and helpful. This woman was really polite, and seemed really keen to keep in touch with the duo.
After what happened today, that feeling was mutual.
"Bye, Akari!" Kenny waved, "Don't worry! I'll catch up with you soon!" Even if his upcoming work schedule and the time needed to learn more about Shibuya and Mallimon more personally would have something to say about 'soon', he knew he would have to make sure. If she was willing to help the first time around, she would be an excellent help for when the bedraggled dust bunny digivolved to her Rookie form.
With Akari gone, Kenny just sat on the bench a little while longer. He needed to get something out of the way, before he had to set off himself. He needed to get home soon. Dad did want to see a movie with him. He started to pull out his phone before a voice interrupted him.
"Hey, Kenny!", Mallimon's voice called from his bag. He looked down, her eyes beaming.
"Akari was really nice today, don't you think!"
"True." Kenny pointed out, "To be honest, I didn't think I'd get any help today. I mean, if it wasn't for her, I bet you'd still be humping my foot right now." That elicited a few chuckles from the newly forged friends. Even Kenny had to admit that got him giggling himself, now that he thought about it.
"Oh come on, I wasn't humping, I was hugging!" She protested jokingly.
"I doubt that, man, you don't even have any hands." He teased her, lightly nudging her from inside the bag.
"Stop teasing me~!" The Mallimon bemoaned from inside the bag, before both burst into laughter. Funny how friendships could be formed that way. Sure, that Mallimon was weird, but they seemed like the two were a perfect fit for one another. Even if they didn't know it at first, they just so happened to come from similar backgrounds, both coming to Shibuya to start a new life, but neither knew they would be starting it together, learning about each other more in the process and getting another new friend on the way.
Man, God, Buddha and Arceus had a strange sense of humour, didn't they.
After both calmed down after that fit of laughter, there was still something aching on Kenny's mind. He needed to get this off his chest too. He never brought this up to Akari, but hey, better late then never. Pulling out his phone once again, he went to call his dad. The Mallimon watched in curiosity as his phone ringed. The tone stopped. He picked up and set the phone to speaker
"Hi son!", his dad said, "How's Shibuya been so far?"
"It's been great, dad." Kenny replied, "I saw some interesting landmarks, got to check out a few stores, and even made myself a few friends today. I honestly think I'm gonna like it here."
"That's good to hear, son. Mind telling me about your new friends?"
"Uh, yeah. I met this really nice girl named Akari today. She's really nice, and helpful and polite. I could get her to meet you sometime." Kenny recounted to his dad. "And..." He paused for a bit.
"And... what?"
"And I also made friends with this little creature. She's a 'Digimon', so to speak." He added a bit more nervously, "and she wants to come live with us."
"Hold on a second, a 'Digimon'?" Dad was starting to sound a little concerned at this point. "I've heard of them earlier. Aren't they a little dangerous to be around?"
Immediately, Kenny had to jump to the Mallimon's defense, "No, no, she's fine, she's fine." He added quickly, "Me and her actually became friends pretty quickly. She says she even wants to protect me as well."
Suddenly, Mallimon piped up from inside the bag, "He's right! And when I become big and strong, I'll be able to protect you and Kenny and your friends and..."
His dad sighed, causing the Mallimon to stop,. "Kenny. I think we need to talk when we get home." He said with a tone of concern in his voice. "I know you seem keen on taking care of her, but I'm just worried about your safety. I don't know if you should let her stay with you. I... I don't want to lose you, that's all."
"Sorry dad," Kenny muttered, "I'll see you when I get home, yeah?"
"Yeah, bye Kenny." His dad hung up.
At this point, the Mallimon looked a little down on herself. Kenny had to say something at this point to her. After all, they did just meet and he did gain her trust so...
Kenny sighed lightly, "Don't worry, man. If dad won't let me keep you, I'll at least find a way to give you a home. Y'know, as close as humanly possible." He patted the Mallimon on the head, "I'll make sure."
Mallimon's eyes beamed again, "Thank you."
"Heh, no worries." He grinned, "that's what friends are for, right?" Cue a light squeak of approval from the Mallimon. Then something stuck the young man. "Hey, that reminds me. You don't really have a name, right?"
"That's true, yes." She pointed out, "Some tamers prefer to name their Digimon. It gives a sense of 'uniqueness' and identity to us." Truth be told, she wanted a name. Anything would do. Hopefully, it would be something unique to her.
"So, I guess you want your own name, man?" He told the Mallimon with a grin. Hey, Helvetica was a nice name, and she had her own sense of self, so why not?
"Yes please!" She squeaked happily inside the bag.
Kenny chuckled in responce, "Heh, OK. How about," he thought for a few seconds before answering "'Skadi'?"
"Skadi? That sounds cool!" She chirped happily. Kenny wished he had the fraction of optimism that she had. It seemed quite infectious. "I love it! Thank you, Kenny!"
"Well, that's settled then." He smiled at her. "For now on, you're officially Skadi. Skadi the Mallimon!" Picking up his bag and hooking it on his shoulder, he asked, "What do you say we set off now, Skadi?"
"I'd love to!" She squeaked in joy. With that, he closed the bag completely, and set off from the bench himself. So that was that, then. A couple of people who were new to Shibuya happened to meet each other on their very first day, and with the help of a resident from here, helped them to learn more about each other. Both were expecting quite a change in their life, and you know what?
Both were ready to take on life, Shibuya, and everything they were going to throw at them.
They just needed to deal with something first...
