"Let's see..."
How did Syre find herself way out here in the woods? Well, with her recent ability to reach her ultimate form, Syre was given quite a bit more freedom from home, allowed to pick and choose, more or less, whatever mission she wanted to from the mission's guild. Of important note, this also included solo jobs, even if they were just errands to make a quick buck or two. And so here she was, with a leather bag strapped across her shoulder, kneeling down as she ruffled her claw through a bit of the forest's brush. She was looking for natural 'Ironroot', a blueish, rough plant that grew uncommonly in the forest's wilds.
"Warm soil, lively earth... still nothing." She gave a sigh, standing up, scratching the back of her head. All she had been able to find were a handful of bulbs near the start of the trail, but could that have really been all of them?
Oh, well. Standing up, brushing off her knees, she moved a bit further down the trail. "Maybe it does get choked out by the undergrowth. Right, next tree..."

Another hunt wasted.
It was getting more common the further out he went, that creatures were more flighty or were more suspicious of that fear that he put off. It made him clack his teeth in irritation, made him consider moving back further deeper into the woods proper where running wasn't as easy as an option for some. The data signals out this far were spread out pretty well too, making it difficult to mask his own amidst them all.
But then sometime later he was gifted with the feeling of a singal. All on it's own, poking around slowly as though looking for something. It was noticeably stronger than some of the more local ones and drew his attention quickly. Pausing with a frown on a tree limb he'd uncoil down and slowly slip closer to the signal in question.
Maybe a hundred or so feet off to his right?
Well it was a guess. Nothing really concrete, he didn't really do measurements. Distance was more in span of time traveled for him. He'd approach quickly and slide up the side of a tree. His 'physical' form melding into the shadows that collected there. Though he was still halfway out and a majority of his 'body' could be seen the wraithmon found himself looking at a feline of sorts.
Not a feline that he would see in this area, and it was much stronger than the average one he figured. But it spoke, something about soil? Earth? Nothing? So he followed after her when she moved down the trail; what was getting choked out by the undergrowth. Growling in irritation he wasn't about to let another hunter just have their way in his grounds.
With a wet sliding sound he'd fall out of the tree, his darkness splattering against the ground As he maintained his form for the most part. Slowly easing himself up on those hind legs and tail curling out from the shadows in lengths of two or three feet...
"...Hunting... Something...?"
His voice was tense, halting, short. It was smooth in a sense, but only after one was able to get past the blatant hostility that marred it. Perhaps not hostile towards Syre herself but more her presence in the area he considered his...

Syre didn't inherit much of her dad's ability to sense data, but as a Digimon, she was able to feel 'something' nearby.
Not when it was a hundred feet off, no: for the most part, Syre simply made her way peacefully down the path, her eyes drawn to the foliage, her ears standing at a rather neutral position. But when the Wraithmon neared, a Champion level signal, the BlackGatomon found herself more cautious, ready to use her claws or her saberk if push came to shove. Lo and behold, that many-eyed creature appeared.
But not in the way Syre was expecting! Instead of trying to ambush her, the shadowy Digimon made himself known. Briefly, the BlackGatomon grit her teeth, but no attack came from the shadow. Instead, it was a question:
'Hunting'?
"... No." Syre's answer was carefully calculated: she slowly reached into her bag, and drew forth a bright, blue bulb, holding it out for the Wraithmon to examine. "Foraging. Looking for these." The tone he gave suggested that he also wasn't looking for a fight - but he also wasn't going to take a bad answer.
Syre remained silent for a moment, before simply asking.
"Do you know where I could find more?"

She knew he was there?
Well maybe not the entire way, no. She wasn't refined like he was. Not something that hunted for every meal. Not something that had to stifle that breathing, stifle that aura of fear he put off. But when he got close enough his signal did all the work for him. That neutral position of the ears drawing the attention of quite a few of his eyes.
Ambushing this one would of been bad, he could feel the readiness. The power. Something... odd about them that he couldn't quite place. He'd approach slowly, sniffing. Shifting. Moving in ways that a natural body couldn't. No a way that a natural body wouldn't. His tail uncurled from the shadow slowly as he took light step after light step. Her answer however had him puzzled.
Foraging? Not hunting?
There was a quizzical head tilt and many of the eyes locked on the movement that syre brought to her bag. He'd stop moving the moment she did that; freezing in frame as in registering the bag properly for the first time. It could contain threats, an unknown as it was. But then that bright blue bulb was made known. Something he had seen before.
Then came another question, one that he did know the answer to easily. Drumming his fingers on his snout for a moment he'd lean down to sniff at the bulb, almost recoiling at the scent with a noticeably gagging sound. He didn't like the smell, he had smelled it before. The flock of biyomon's used this bulb to make their safety around their nest. Or at least the paste of this bulb.
"Yuch... Know where... two. Three? Maybe.... more?"
The wraithmon clacked his teeth together and sniffed at it again. The same sound coming out of his toothy maw before turning slowly a single arm coming across to point directly away from where she had been searching.
"Small... patch. Forager. Plant... tender."
There was a distinct pause and he'd tap at his chest, just a few inches from his large eye that swiveled up to look at the touch as though it was a foreign one before settling on syre again.
"They will... ask for trade."

Syre wasn't helpless, but she was out of his element. Compared to Shade, the BlackGatomon might as well have been walking blind through the forest, something that would have been unwise to begin with without the use of portals. This Wraithmon, however, seemed natural, like a skilled predator who had natural reign over this area of the forest.
Thus, the cat had to be very careful. As Shade approached, Syre would cautiously let him both observe and recoil at the scent of the bulb. "I'm not a fan of the smell either. Its a bulb used as food for machine-type Digimon." Which apparently also had a use for hiding one's scent from shadowy wraiths. To Syre's surprise, the Wraithmon was quick to help, stretching out an arm to an area deeper in the forest.
She would have thanked him and set off, if not for that last comment: a trade.
"No wonder these things are so rare... someone else has probably picked them clean." It made sense. She once more stowed that apparently repugnant plant back into her foraging bag, giving a nod towards the Wraithmon. "Thank you." With that - and a small bit of hesitation - she would turn and follow the trail the Shademon had set out for her.
That hesitation came for a particular reason, of course: she was nervous to expose her back to him. But Syre both realized the danger - and turned around anyway. Was she confident, clueless, or trusting?

Shade shifted and observed the one in front of him for a few long moments. She explaining that these were used for food for machine-type digimon. He'd slowly frown and consider this. It would explain the roughness of those that came through here from time to time and furthered the exploration of the forest in order to find them. He'd snort softly and shake his head slowly.
"Would... explain the metal ones."
They came time and time again, searching for something he never found himself. But the fact that they were searching for these made it obvious to him that he could just quickly direct them away from his patch of hunting grounds.
He could feel the tenseness of the other, the desire to move on and then she addressed the fact that someone else had probably picked them clean. Yes. The plant tender. A... a plant of some kind that moved on their own and cared for many types of plants in that glass house.
"Not... picked... moved."
His words were halting, stuttering and he'd shift slowly as she nodded at him. Stowing away that repugnant plant into that bag. To her maybe it wasn't so aggressive and that was why she could handle it but... She then thanked him and the Shade blinked slowly. She even went so far to turn her back to him where he found some of his claws unslinking from their dark grasps. He'd grab at a hand with a small frustrated sound before shaking his head.
"Forager... be careful. Tender is... Dangerous..."
He had tried to shirk the tender out of their home before, tried to force the plant like creature to move into a less mainstream hunting ground. But they had fought him along with many other predators away. He eventually settled in occasionally leaving them plants he found that were curious seeing as they had so many already. He had a question, one that he was trying to push through his head albeit slowly.
"If... not hunter. But forager... what... what else forage?"

'Picked', 'Moved'. Syre nodded in understanding, but the effect was the same to her: someone was controlling the supply, and it was making Syre's job more difficult to go with.
She figured that was the end of it - but, from the corner of her eye, she saw that shadow slip forward, and try to grab her arm! Syre pulled away, almost in fright, her ear flicking at Shade's words. Wait, the plant was dangerous? And Tender was her name? "I... I see." With a deep breath, Syre gave a nod, pulling her arm away as she continued down the trail, now with her newfound 'traveling partner'.
Just stay careful, Syre. At the very least, with him around, no-one else is going to mess with you. She gave a sigh, her ear twitching at that next question. What else did she forage?
... She did just say she was a forager, but this wasn't her typical trade. She could explain that to a domesticated Digimon fairly easily, but a feral one like this? How should she word it -
No, no, screw it. She just answered: "I'm not a forager by trade, but by circumstance. This is a job I'm completing to help set up a small Iron Root farm in a greenhouse back in Whitewater City. Next week, I might take a different job, to act as a guard or a fighter, or an explorer."
She said it bluntly, with little regard to the Shademon's apparent lack of language. But if she didn't spill it all out at once, she'd spend the rest of the afternoon entertaining his questions!

Shade hesitated a little bit at seeing her pull away, Tender was incredibly dangerous in his eyes and he wouldn't want someone else that was around his level or a little higher to be walking into something that was a trap. Not out of kindness or anything like that; but more because he was getting sick of having to help people out when he wasn't hungry. Even though he was hungry now he doubted he could find it in him to eat this one.
It was that smell. That oddness that put him off. Made him hesitate. Question.
And then the other sighed, twitched and considered his question. He'd furrow his brow slowly. She was not just a forager? Wait... no she wasn't a forager at all. It was a 'job' one that she... she was doing in some other place. The almost feral mon slowly scrunched his brow; his unopen eyes on his head seeming troubled for a moment as he thought about it.
"Forager. Guard. Fighter. Explorer."
Each name of a 'job' was listed with a heavy amount of curiosity and the wraithmon eased back a bit slowly rolling out another question. He could sense the other was in a hurry but he was starting to get even more curious now.
"....White...water city...?"
The concept of a city was dramatically lost upon him, the concept of a group larger than maybe a handful of mons working together was also lost on him. But the idea of one or two mons working with others or just one another made more sense to him. He'd harumph loudly and then drum his fingers on his snout.
"Help forger... with tender. Show...? Show White... Water.. city?"

It honestly depended what kind of Digimon Tender was. If she was a part of a city, she could be reasoned with and perhaps Syre could just buy the bulbs she needed. And if it turned out that she was too difficult to deal with, Syre could just make a break for it and try somewhere else.
It wasn't a big deal for her - so why was this Wraithmon being so intrusive? She gave a nod as he got through the occupations, the cat's ear flickering as he questioned the city. "Its by the ocean. Not like the wild, at all - Digimon there trade and buy what they need." Syre pressed on, figuring that might be the end of it -
... Wait, help? Wait, take him to the city? Syre barely knew him, or how he'd act, or if he'd get overstimulated and try to attack someone. The cat grit her teeth: "If I need your help." She gave a nod. "But when we reach 'Tender', hide first. I'll see if I can reason or trade with her."

The wraithmon didn't know what kind of digimon Tender was, or if that was really even her name. He just knew she tended to the plants and was aggressive to those that would come in for the reason of hunting. It was enough to make him wary of her and that was that. He didn't know the extremes syre was willing to go or what she would do in that scope.
He was being intrusive because of his curiosity. Not something that he got to do very often nor was it something that he could do with everyone. This one seemed less affected by his fear and appearance than most and it was somewhat pleasing to him that he could at least talk... even for a short amount of time.
The concept of trading and buying wasn't lost on him. He had run into traders before that explained it to him and he of course tried to trade things for things they had that they wanted. Smaller baubles or things that they wouldn't mind parting with. Even a few gemstones that attracted his eye but ultimately were difficult to move around. He'd dig around in his chest and huff a bit. He'd show syre the few gemstones that he had managed to trade from those merchants in exchange for some rare herbs he had in his cave. The largest of which was blue and roughly around the size of a baseball while the others varied in sizes... It was quite bright and even seemed to glow on it's own!
"Would... be good for trade in... in city?"
He had things he wanted, things he could use. Things he could press for. He knew of the thing called salt and how it was good for meats. Keeping them much longer. There were hosts of things he could get, but he didn't know what was what, or where was what. He'd slide those gems back into his body after a few long moments with a frown.
"Will... hide at edge of clearing."
The digimon shifted and drummed his fingers along his snout, before clacking his teeth and giving Syre a firm nod.
"Glass house... Tender's nest.... Will... She reasons..."
The wraithmon seemed a touch tense but slowly slipped into following the blackgatomon. But off to one side so that they could see her. It was more out of curiosity to see how this went than respect? Or perhaps he respected her desire to make sure this trade... 'worked'.

Shade was definitely an interesting one.
It was a bit grotesque to think of where Shade was pulling those gems out from, but as he asked his curious question, Syre took a moment to look over the stock. At first, she seemed awestruck by the pile of gems, but as she looked closer - especially at the larger gem - the BlackGatomon noticed a few things.
The perfection, the polish, and the odd damage that surrounded the 'baseball'. A mere tap of her claw was all that it took to prove that this bauble was fake - after all, who would bring real gems this far out to trade with a hunter? "Mm... the small purple one and the green one might be. The rest are just marbles."
A cheap and effective way to try and steal from this monster. But they pressed forward, towards a greenhouse, Syre returning a nod to the Wraithmon. Alright, cool, normal stuff! With the hunter out of sight, the BlackGatomon would step closer, and give a knock at the door - gently pressing her mission guild ID against the glass door from the outside.
Surely this 'Tender' was reasonable?

Shade blinked a little bit and looked down at the center bauble frowning quietly as he was told that the small purple one and the green one would be... but the rest would be marbles. So he had been taken advantage of by the traders going through here... But to be fair what he had traded them honestly wasn't worth it in the same respect so he called that simply even.
He'd exhale slowly and simply nod, deigning to follow after the blackgatomon and hiding when she got close enough to the greenhouse. He stared at the greenhouse with a mix of fear, longing and curiosity that couldn't be masked by the fact his physical body couldn't be seen.
Inside of the greenhouse it was a natural wonderland of different plants of all walks. Every single plant was cared for by a different type of positioning, myrids of lamps pointed at them bringing the light they needed at all times or with some of them it simply ate away at the light for them. Blinds covering several portions within the greenhouse to hide the more fragile plants.
Upon the knock there was a flurry of motion within. The tender making herself known immediately. A lilamon wearing what looked like to be researching glasses, a labcoat and several different utensils each meant for caring of the plants around her. Blinking boorishly she'd ease over to the door and open it up, seeing that the guild ID was present she had relaxed quite considerably compared to the first few seconds of her being 'visible'.
"A Guildy out this far in the depths of the forest? Why honey I didn't order anything yet. Unless you've got the soil from the last shipment..."
She sounded motherly enough and she was caring for the plants here in a controlled environment far enough away from the depths of the city. It was curious and would probably draw attention from someone that knew better... she'd sniff at the air and narrow her eyes leaning a bit.
"Mind if you come in first dearie? I can smell that eye monster around. Wouldn't want you gobbled up. He's been a real pain in my stem I'll tell you what..."

A tense response was probably expected - both for the fact that Syre was likely interrupting this poor Digimon's work, and for the fact that the Wraithmon she had met along the way likely already met this 'tender'. Thankfully, the Lilamon was much more articulate and 'reasonable' than the Wraithmon, Syre returning a nod to her.
"Unfortunately I'm not here for a shipment..." She would step inside, taking a moment to get the mud off of her feet, closing and locking the door behind her. If the Lilamon considered the Wraithmon a monster that would 'gobble Digimon up', Syre wasn't going to take any chances. "Actually, I was on an errand to find Ironroot Bulbs, to help supplement the greenhouse near Whitewater. I intended to just pick them myself, but everything looked picked through, and with the woods torn up as they were..."
She gave a sigh, shaking her head. If the Lilamon would allow it, Syre would withdraw the only bulb she had managed to pick, as an example for the tender. "Um... these kind," Syre would clarify. "Am I late for the season, or are they just that rare?"

"Pity that. I ran out of top soil for some of the rarer pieces. Had to suppliment from nearby stock... not as healthy as the soil I've been using but it's certainly full of nutrition...."
The lilamon mumbled a little bit and shook her head eyeing the blackgatomon up, down, side to side. She even went to poke and flash a light at the blackgatomon's shadow before relaxing visibly. She wasn't taking any chances that the shade had slipped in here. She'd tilt her head slightly and start tending to her plants as syre spoke about what she was here for.
"Ironroot bulbs? I've got a few of them in the nursery and a few older ones in the curtained off areas. Trying to see if I can extend their life by a margin of 10% after transplant. That would be because of the biyomons darling. They've been pickin' them up like mad!"
She'd lean and let out a surprised sound at seeing the only bulb. She'd lean to inspect it and if allowed would take it from syre, adjusting her glasses to look at it properly.
"Rare. Late in season. Being picked. A multitude of reasons. The biyomon have been using them to keep the shade away from their nests, they only grown in certain locations in the forest naturally. But rather than picking the whole bulb the Biyomon's have been picking up the top most fourth's. Best for pasting."
She'd slowly wave for the black gatomon to follow her to the back blinded off area where there were at least a dozen or more of the plant growing in different 'conditions' of lighting. While a few that were growing under normal conditions would be in the 'back'...
"I've got seeds that I managed to coax out of the older ones, some younger bulbs that haven't quite taken root dearie. How many do you need?"
The tone that the lilamon held spoke of something that she needed herself, but she looked unsure how to exactly address the issue...

It was easy to tell why shipments were so sparse in the area - look how cautious the Lilamon was! Syre gave a blink at that full, careful scan, though she didn't back away from it - even as that stick poked right into her shadow.
Shade hadn't followed her inside, and so the two could speak rather peacefully. Thankfully, the Lilamon did have what she was looking for. "Really, because of the Biyomon?" She tilted her head. "I guess the only thing it would be good for out here is as a repellent, but still..." To think the Wraithmon had this much effect on the forest, Syre nodding at their reasoning. And she followed right along, towards the light-controlled area in the back.
"Oh! Um..." She would just be allowed to take them? "Three or four - or, honestly, just the equivalent in seeds would work." Syre was undercutting a little, but she did already have that one-and-a-half bulbs in her back. But that tone was tense from the Lilamon...
"Something wrong? I mean, if its a burden to lose them, you don't have to..."
