How many months had it been since he received this thing?
Early July maybe? From what he could recall it had been more or less most of the year since he received his digivice. But unlike many of the people that had been in that trailmon station he couldn't bring himself to board one and go to the digital world proper.
In short he was afraid, afraid to continue and afraid to go into something he didn't fully understand. In fact he had spent most of his time to try to understand the few things that popped across the screen from time to time. There was a scanning option that was next to useless for him, there was a walkie talkie function that he could faintly make out whispering noises... and something called a 'HLB' that he hadn't been able to activate.
Most of the times that he had figured something out had been outside of his workplace. Well. Outside of his workplace on break at the very least, kind of like right now really. But this time his button presses and tapping didn't seem to do much.
Not much seemed to do much to his device now days. Other than giving him some LAT and LONG of the digital world where three small signals seemed to be clustered. He'd frown a little bit and shake his head, exhaling out through the near constant doctor's mask that he wore to help hide his face.
"Tch... Maybe going down to that place was a bad idea... now it only shows this..."
He'd grumble and lean back against the wall. Still pressing away at the device, occasionally slipping it in and out of his hoodies' pocket to give it another look. This was a constant and kept him sort of busy while he was obviously out on break.
Thankfully business was always slow at night, even more so with how the weather had been lately. Nippy, cold. Occasionally snowy but thankfully today hadn't been. It made it easy to just sort of rotate off of breaks with his co-workers. Most of which spent their time in the back room if there weren't customers around anyways.
Running a hand through his hair he'd stare at the device again. It giving an angry bleep when he thumbed a large button again. He'd almost flinch at seeing those three signals again. He still didn't know what that meant or what he was supposed to do with that information.
Would he ever find out? Would he ever be able to go down to that place again?

Her life had suddenly taken a massive change for the weird. It wasn't exactly bad, but she didn't know enough to determine if it was a good change either. All she was aware of was that there was a massive metallic looking egg sitting in her backpack. Large enough that atop all of the blankets and snacks she usually hoarded inside of it, there was barely any room for the egg. She couldn't even zip it together properly, the metallic shiny egg hanging out the very top and clearly visible if anyone even attempted to look.
Still, she knew enough about what it was to have a vague sort of understanding. She was Digi-Destined, or whatever the term was. A Digimon Tamer, apparently. The title itself didn't really intrigue her, more so the concept that caught her attention. An entirely digital world... A reality where everything was made out of code turned physical. A place where power knew almost no limits. It was almost like an anime, but Juliet did not even remotely consider herself a protagonist. This was just simply her new reality. A world where at any moment, a massive monster might drop in and shake her very core. And yet, the Digimon who was supposed to be her buddy was yet to hatch out of their egg.
The Digivice, on the other hand, was very intriguing. The bare basics seemed simple enough, but the more complicated functions of it were still lost to her. Regardless, she was determined to take care of the egg as best she could until it decided to hatch. Whenever that happened, she would be ready. But one thing she had learned right off the gate, was that they were apparently voracious eaters. Everyone she had met so far was always devouring her snacks left, right and center, and if her own Digimon was going to be just as hungry, she needed to stock up on snacks.
The local gas station was a perfectly fine place to grab all kinds of stuff. From chocolates to chips, sodas and even perhaps some pocky, even. She had to admit, she was a sucker for that kind of snacks. She wheeled herself in through the door, casually looking around as she carefully held her wallet in her hands. It wasn't like it would fit in the backpack as it was. Pushing further into the store, she began to idly browse as she examined the shelves for what she needed.
Of course, for any employees or even other customers currently shopping, the egg was plainly visible for all to see. She still had no real way to explain what it was if she was forced to, probably going to have to make up an excuse on the fly. That was sure to end well, right?

Honestly with this thing he wasn't sure what to think, all the beeping and buttons made him frustrated. It wasn't something that he was even really used to! But he took his time, that was the right thing to do here right? With how long he was taking he'd hopefully be ready and raring to go to... where-ever it was where digimon went! Well he knew it was the digital world but he just didn't have the guts to get on that train or go and see where these coordinates really went.
So while on his break him seeing that wheelchair bound individual made him pause. He'd blink a few times and frown as he could hear those through the employee entrance joke and tease one another. Knowing that there wasn't anyone in there to help her if she needed it. Biting his lip he'd step in after them, freezing at seeing that egg in the backpack he was given a few strange glances and thoughtful pauses.
Wait is that a digiegg?
He only knew the barest of the things about digimon. The whole egg thing wasn't lost on him sure but seeing one in public when the digimon themselves were supposed to be secret? Well he'd bite his lip and hurry after the woman quietly speaking up and taking off his coat in the same motion.
"Erm... Ma'am er... You know having that visible is bad right?"
He'd mumble and shake his head, looking around noting that some of the other customers were sort of going about their business like really nothing was wrong. In his hand with the coat his digivice was still tightly gripped, but there was nothing really indicating his status as a tamer other than that. Hell to be honest did he even really know the reason why they had to keep hidden other than what the tinkermon pandora had told him??

Juliet was just about to attempt to grab another bag of chips when she heard the voice. She nearly froze, slowly turning to look over at him. It was an employee, that was for sure, but just what was he referring to? Juliet blanked, her confusion quite visible on her face for a few seconds before she finally realized. Her egg. It was definitely visible, wasn't it? It wasn't like she could easily twist around and cover it up either. A nervous blush spread across her face as excuses immediately struggled to come to mind.
"I... W-well you see." She spoke with an obvious stutter before letting out a deep breath and trying to just relax. However, questions slowly began to pop into her head. How did he know it wasn't supposed to be visible? What did he even think it was if not a Digiegg? Her nervous expression slowly faded into a more curious look, slowly turning her chair around to look at him directly.
Her own blue eyes locking onto his own blue eyes, she blinked a little bit. Was it bad if she told other people? How many people knew about Digimon? It felt like she was meeting someone else who knew every other day, so why did she never learn until recently either? Weighing the options in her head, she finally spoke with a very quiet voice to hopefully not be overheard. "I... I assume you know what it is, right?" Her eyes finally drifted downwards to the Digivice gripped into his hand and let out a relaxed sigh. Slowly, Juliet reached into the pocket of her jacket and pulled out the soft purple device in return.
"I still... don't really know what I'm doing." Juliet would outright admit, brushing her hair back behind her ears. "I'm just so scared to ever leave it at home because it might... y-you know." She suddenly grew even quieter, miming with her hands as if an egg was hatching. Hopefully, he got the basic idea. It wasn't like Juliet was going to be able to answer any real questions with her mediocre knowledge of Digimon at all. "I was just, umm, I heard they eat a lot. And..." She offhandedly motioned to the shelves near her. "Figured that I should umm, store a bit."

It only took a moment or two for Lance to realize he should of been a lot more specific about what he was talking about... He blinked a few times and nervously shifted the coat to hanging over his shoulder the device still clutched pretty heavily in his hand. He'd tilt his head slightly and blink as they locked eyes. At her question however he'd dip his head in a small nod. His voice becoming rather hushed as he was pretty sure the other customers weren't in the same boat as the two of them.
"I do know what it is, I had one of them living at my place for a short time... Well. Not as an egg but you know."
He'd glance at the device that she held in her hand now. The soft purple device looked so strange in comparison to his. They were the same model sure but hers just seemed... so much more different. It was hard to really explain the feeling he got when he looked at hers and then at his. He'd frown quietly and consider for a moment what the other said. She admitted she didn't know what she was doing.
"I'm in the same boat. Though... Hmm."
He'd furrow his brow and look around; the others in the store seemed to be minding their own business now. At the miming of the egg hatching he'd blink a few times; she was right at the idea that they ate a lot. Pandora ate a lot when she was there and well.. storing would be a good idea.
"A breadmaker, some deep dishes for larger meals might be a good idea. Snacks will only take you so far uhm..."
Lance would scratch at his neck; figuring that the other would probably have this sort of stuff if he could manage it. Though he wasn't sure just how much she had to go with!
"Though... it might be different depending on what one you end up with... uhm... Any idea what it'll be...?"
There was a long pause and lance nearly face-palmed as he realized that he hadn't done something incredibly important. Though he had a name-tag with his name on it he would still give her a polite bow before introducing himself!
"I should of opened with this really.. I'm Lance! Lance Medinn."
He really hoped that she didn't know of his parents, that would make this so much more problematic if she did. But if she didn't well at least he wouldn't have to worry about living up to their prim and proper reputation!

Juliet immediately nodded as she listened to him speak. He had a Digimon living at his place at one point, but it wasn't his partner? Especially considering they left and he also said he was in the same boat of not knowing much, she could only assume his partner was somewhere. What else would happen, after all? Maybe he had just yet to find his own egg? She still didn't understand how this worked. Did everyone just get an egg to start with? She assumed that was the case.
At his suggestion of a bread maker or some deep dishes, her eyes lit up rather widely. Both of those sounded like lovely ideas. Being able to make something like stew might also be a wonderful idea, considering it would be very filling for both her and her Digimon partner. However, she doubted she'd ever just give up on her snacks. A little salty or sweet treat now and then always made that little difference in her appetite. "Right. I have uh, rice cooker at home, but it seems like everyone has one of those, huh?" She laughed softly, smiling a bit wider as she finally relaxed.
At the question of what it was, she simply shrugged. "I know it's uh, grey. The egg, I mean. But apparently, that doesn't mean much. From what I've been told, one baby can... can uh, 'grow' into many others." She continued to speak quietly, hoping that nobody else was even bothering to listen in even accidentally. It wasn't like anyone would really think much of it, an employee talking to someone like her who probably needed assistance. She didn't, definitely not, but the image would work for now.
When he finally introduced himself, she nodded and bowed softly immediately in response. "Juliet. Juliet Anderson. I uh, come from Scotland, in case me being a foreigner wasn't already obvious." Her smile grew a little bit wider. Having someone to talk about this stuff in person was an incredible relief, even if he was as clueless as she was.
Juliet carefully tucked her Digivice back into her jacket as she continued to speak. "Do you uh, have any idea what uh, yours is? Or are you still waiting?" She asked with an innocent expression on her face, completely unaware of even how becoming a Digidestined worked at all.
Right as she finished speaking, a strange noise suddenly echoed from behind her rather quietly. A soft, cracking sound that seemed to have no obvious source. Juliet, of course, was none the wiser facing forwards at her new ally. However, should Lance look he might even see the top part of her egg sticking out of her backpack gain a small crack that began to spread across the top.

Lance honestly wasn't used to having someone listen to him when he was speaking, at least not in the sense of taking advice. He barely knew better when it came to this sort of thing. So it made him a touch nervous; and with explaining about pandora and how she wasn't about anymore well.. that made it a little more obvious that he wasn't exactly too happy with her being gone. He'd glance down at his digivice and stuff it back into his pocket with a sigh. He'd give a small smile at the laugh and rubbed at his neck at the idea that everyone had a rice cooker.
"For me it was either the rice cooker or bread maker. And the bread maker was a thousand yen cheaper so.."
A small dismissive wave followed suit and she gave him a shrug at his query about what it was. All she knew is that it was grey and that it could hold multiple of them? He'd blink owlishly and lean to look at the egg curiously.
"That... sounds like it could be a handful jeez..."
Was he ready for that sort of thing? He didn't know. He just knew that when his eventually came he would hopefully be ready. Or when he went. He wasn't really sure. He still couldn't get the nerve to go down that elevator again.
"Oh! It's a pleasure to meet you Juliet. Just a little! I... don't uhm... Well. I don't hear accents very often here. Cause uh... night shift and all that."
He let out a soft chuckle and shook his head. Then he'd pause at her inquiring about if he knew what his was. He'd take a moment and take his digivice out. He'd shuffle through the information that was present and frown slightly.
"Well it says here That they're a Gabumon...? I don't know what that is but that's what it says. Uhm... and I guess waiting. Like. I've got these coordinates it tells me every-time I turn it on but I uh... I.."
He sighed a little bit and shook his head. Apart from the coordinates he knew would have to be in that place. It had a host of information regarding his partner yes, but it was all just simple words that he just really didn't understand without the context. He'd bite the inside of his cheek and blink quietly at seeing a small part of the egg gaining a crack. With that hushed voice returning he'd quickly direct her attention towards her backpack if he could.
"...Is it... supposed to be cracking?"

Juliet couldn't help but blush embarrassedly as Lance admitted he didn't have a rice cooker. She shouldn't have just assumed. If he was working at this store of all places... Juliet bit her tongue to silence herself. She should know better by now! Just because she was able to make do with what she had, others might still be struggling financially. She simply nodded her head in response, trying her best to understand. Life of the poor must be very different than what she grew up living with, not everyone had been blessed with a family like hers to grow up in.
She once again nodded in response as Lance mentioned he didn't hear accents often entirely understanding what he meant. Most tourists were only active during the day, and it wasn't like many of them had a reason to come to a gas station above all things at all. And even those that lived here who were foreign were small and far between. "Yeah. I can uh, understand. Sometimes it's hard for me to understand various Japanese accents myself."
At the mention of a Gabumon, her eyes raise a little bit. Now that was certainly an interesting name. She didn't even bother trying to imagine it, she'd certainly be wrong in any case. The moment he mentioned the coordinates and began to sigh, Juliet frowned a little bit. Did he not want to go to them? If it gave him a specific place, then surely that must be where his partner was. "Well... Why don't you just..."
She silenced herself as Lance continued, directing attention towards her backpack that rested on the handles of her chair. There was a crack. Chills ran down her spine as she simply stared, unable to tear her eyes away from it. That wasn't there before, she was sure of it. Juliet continued to stare for another few seconds when another crack seemed to form its way into the surface of the shell. "... Oh god, what do I do?" Words suddenly spilled out of her mouth on instinct, speaking just a bit too loud.
She quickly turned to face Lance once more, worry etched into all of her features. He surely didn't know what to do either but she had to do something. This magical moment was happening in public, in front of the world's eyes to see. "D-do you know anywhere quiet? Fast?"
