10 a.m. Shibuya Train terminal. The elevator that goes down to the Ginza Line platform. That was the info that Yukiko had given to Chester via her phone. She was waiting, worried that he might get lost, or not come. It had been her idea to meet here so she could slowly induct him into the Digital World, but the closer the clock came to 10 a.m. the more her social anxiety made her doubt her own decision. Mizu, who was wearing her holosuit, tried her hardest not to giggle at her partner's silliness. "COme on, it's not like we asked him to come to some obscure back alley, this is the elevator to a busy subway line!" "I know, b-b-b-but he seemed so annoyed last time, w-w-w-what if my idea annoyed him even more and he won't come?" "Well, then I'll kick his butt for upsetting you, duh!" Yuki would've giggled if she hadn't been so nervous. For now, all she could do was wait.

Even though Yukiko had texted Chester the directions of exactly how to get where she wanted to be, even though Chester caught a train to be in the right place at the right time, the young man still arrived late to the party. Why? There was just one reason. "Shiro, knock it off," Chester hissed at the bear. It seemed he was hostile to almost every other human they saw. The only thing that kept him from escaping was a very short, very strong harness attached to a leash. "I'm sorry, Ma'am. My dog wouldn't hurt a fly, I promise." Chester put great emphasis on the word 'dog,' the best thing he could do to disguise the fact that he was lugging around a very reluctant, non-compliant, and physically strong bear.
Shiro continued to growl and attempt to get to a populated area to wreak havoc. Of all the digital monsters, why'd I get the bear who won't shut up and listen? Why couldn't I get the soldier lizard who's kind of a dork? Perhaps Yuki was able to hear the growling even before Chester managed to open the door and drag the polar bear into the elevator with him, even despite Shiro pulling very hard in the other direction. He only calmed down when the doors closed in front of him and trapped him. "So. How's your day been?" Chester than asked Yukiko with false casualness, "And who's your friend?"

Ah, he had indeed come, thank goodness! Yuki really did hear Shiro from far away, to the point where she ran towards the sound to quickly lead Chester and his unruly partner towards the elevator. "Ah, come on, in here!" Once they were inside, and Yuki had held her Digivice against the floor selection panel, she let out some held breath. "Aaaaah, ah, h-hi. My day's been alright, thanks for asking. Ah, this girl here? That is my partner, Mizu." The girl smiled, twirled, and dropped her Hologuise, winking as she revealed her true Betamon nature. "Hi, nice to meetcha~" "The reason she looked human until right now is because she wears a gadget called a Hologuise, which disguises the true form of a Digimon. Should you be willing to come with me to Terminus today, I will make sure you can get one for Shiro posthaste, since clearly, you could make do with disguising him..." She looked down as the elevator kept going down...-past- the Ginza Line station, down towards a large, open station, with walls clad in metal.

The assistance into the elevator was appreciated by exactly half of the Chester-polar bear duo. The IceBearmon even turned back to snap at Yukiko herself, but the young man holding his leash quite prudently pulled and kept it too tight for him to reach her. There was a brief battle of strength, though, which got Shiro's jaws uncomfortably close to Yukiko's leg. "I'm so sorry. Shiro! Back off!" He did, but it was clear he was very reluctant about it. Chester was so busy explaining himself that he didn't pay much attention to what Yukiko actually did next. "I've been calling him Shiro 'cause... I dunno what else to call him. He's only not-hostile to me, and he even takes a few verbal commands when he actually wants to. I don't get any of it."
The young man startled and backed into the shut elevator door when Mizu turned out to be a talking frog. "OK, first: I don't how how I feel about the idea of lots of you going around pretending to be people... no offense. But..." Chester looked at Shiro, and put one hand on top of the bear's head. That didn't stop him from angrily scratching at the elevator doors, trying in vain to pry them open. "...He definitely needs some kinda disguise. Hey, are we close?" The elevator seemed to be going for a long while now... too long. Below the lowest listed levels. "Yukiko? Mizu? You said we were taking a train..."

"Ah, Shiro is a nice name, even if a bit...on the nose..."Yukiko was well aware of Shiro's attempts to eat her shin, but after having seen the bear in action when he was still fully feral, this was not too bad. Mizu, however, was quite alert now. And Mizu also puffed up her cheeks when Chester noted that he didn't like her "being people". "Hey, excuse me that I wanna see the human world without having DATS or AEGIS after my sweet, wellformed rump! How rude!"The Betamon crossed her forearms. Yukiko giggled nervously and patted her. "Y-y-y-you have to excuse him, Mizu! He's a bit over his head since this whole Digital World thing was kind of thrust upon him out of nowhere, I'm sure he didn't mean it that way!"She remained miffed, though, even as they arrived at the bottom. "Ah yes, super close, in fact, we are here!"As they stepped out, Chester asked for a train. "Ah, fret not! It will arrive shortly!"And, indeed, within seconds, a train arrived!...a train with an eye, which looked the group over: "This is the train! Don't worry, it's just a Digimon, and the inside is like any other train!"She pushed one button on the door to open it, and, indeed, it was just a normal train. "It's weird at first, b-b-but you'll get used to it! Come on in, I can tell you more while we travel to Terminus, the main city of the Digital World!"

"Believe me, I tried asking for his name. I got the only digimon in the world that can't talk, so all he said was-" Shiro began to snarl and growl at the door that refused to open for him no matter how he scratched at it and beat it. Apparently, this was the response his Tamer expected, or at least wasn't surprised by. "-which I can't really mimic." The young man jumped back, startled by the little frog's big reaction to a little slip of the tongue. At least he had the good sense to know he'd done wrong, though, so he turned to face Mizu directly, kept his arms by his side, and bowed. "I'm sorry for offending you. I didn't mean it... and please don't bite me."
Shiro didn't give up on those doors until they finally clambered open, at which point he roared victoriously, reared up on two legs, and gave the door slot one last good, hard shove to prove his dominance before settling down again. That let him be calm at last, although he regarded everyone around him with suspicion. As for Chester himself... he was in awe. This defied everything he thought he knew about everything. "Something something Alice... something something rabbit hole." He needed a breath to collect himself. "And you're certain we'll be able to return the same way. Right?" Hopefully reassured, he and Shiro stepped on.
While looking for seats, Chester felt like he was shoved very hard from behind, hard enough that he instinctively grabbed at the larger person, Yukiko, to stay upright. He wanted to snap at the one who did it, but when he turned around... there was a huge wolf following close behind him! His stomach dropped. Fight-or-flight kicked in. The Garurumon (which he couldn't have known) spoke to him, "Pardon me, my fault," with a refined English accent and a genuine sense of sincerity and regret. That absolutely floored Chester.
"Er... no worries." The Garurumon seemed satisfied by that.
Lucky the group managed to find a little booth to accommodate everybody. "So, a whole city full of..." Chester glanced at the bear, who curled up on top of his feet and began to take a nap. "I still don't get it. This one of those 'see it to believe it' deals?"

Mizu huffed, and bared her teeth...to grin. "Hohohoh, think I'd bite you, eh? Don't worry, idiots taste bad. Besides, I don't bite people unless they're into that~" She then gave him a flirtatious wink...which was even more unsettling than her upset face.
Yukiko was glad to find the little place to sit down in peace, and to chat. She gave Chester an awkward smile. "S-s-see? Most Digimon aren't that bad! They're a lot like us, they got potential for bad and good, but a lot of them are just people who want to live their lives. That Garurumon was nice, wasn't it?" She nodded at his assertion about Terminus. "Yes, it's hard to describe Terminus. I surely was floored when I first saw it. Believe me, when you first see it, it will make your jaw drop. But until we're there, do you have any pressing questions?" Mizu was sitting on Yuki's lap, on her back, already snoring loudly.

Gulp. That was about the only response Chester could give to the Betamon's 'offer.'
On the train, he was able to come back from an awkward situation with slightly more sense and coherence. "Yeah, he seemed... well, about as polite as a normal person," the zoologist admitted. "Still, though... freaks me out. It feels like being in a room with a celebrity except the celebrity can't swallow me whole." The thought made Chester shudder. The same thought made Shiro expel a sort of amused chuff. "Don't you start."
Did Chester have pressing questions? "Where do I even start?" he prefaced with an anxious little chuckle. "Short-term to long-term, maybe?" The man took a second to put his questions in some sort of order. "Are we gonna have to go through some sort of Customs station? What's the local currency, and can I exchange yen for it? What's the rate? Is it actually legal to bring a 'holosuit' out of their world, or anything for that matter? What's-" He was interrupted by a very loud snore from Mizu, forcing him to speak up over her and start over. "What's a 'digivice' actually supposed to do? How's it work? I tried to open it, and even a hammer wouldn't scratch the thing. Who made it? How do I change the batteries when they run out? How is it no one's figured out how to get here without a digivice with all the nosy people in the world? What is the purpose of this partnership? Is it, like, some kind of evolutionary advantage or responsibility, or... why? How? How many other worlds are there? Are there humans bound to creatures from those world by strange devices, too? How many? How can we find out?"
Chester was almost hyperventilating by the time he was through. He needed some seconds of silence to calm down. "To answer your original query... yes. I have some pressing questions."

Those were, indeed, a lot of questions. Yuki blinked a bit, but nonetheless she took a deep breath. "Okay, one after the other... There is no real custom station, as possessing a Digivice is usually the best proof of belonging there. The currency is Bits, which, from what I have learned, seems to have a 1:1 conversion rate from Yen. Some stores even have machines that directly transform yen into Bits, so those who forget to convert can still buy things. Bringing a Holosuit is very much legal to bring to the Human World, as this is the main way Digimon can leave the Digital World without causing a ruckus. Anything can be brought out, really...but a lot of things only work inside the Digital World, like vehicle construction devices, as they require ambient data to construct the vehicle in question." She pushed imaginary glasses up the bridge of her nose once again. "As for the Digivice, it appears to be a machine far beyond technological limitations. It is more a symbolization of a bond shared between a human and their Partner. That might explain why you could not open it with tools, as only the breaking of such a bond could break the Digivice. Likewise, it does not require batteries, though extra modules you install might. Nosy people of course sometimes end up here. One of our club members has a girlfriend who got involved in the Digital World business solely due to accidentally finding and taking the train. But these people even finding out is very rare, as the whole Digital World business is usually not common or shared knowledge. Only those involved tend to know. However, there is always chance. As for the purpose of the partnership...to be frank, I am not sure, myself. We are still researching it. To some, it appears to be a call to a higher purpose, to other it's the acquiring of a powerful weapon, and to yet other people it is nothing but the fulfillment of a wish for a friend. The intricacies are still subject of our research, so I apologise if I cannot tell you much more. As for other world...well, the Digital World has a few smaller worlds hidden inside it on occasion, space folding upon space as Data congregates into shard realms. Beyond that...I do not know." She kept her hand on the bridge of her nose, then cleared her throat. "But yeah, I hope that clears things up a bit."

No customs? That sure made everyone's life easier. A perfect 1:1 conversion rate, though? There's no way that's true. If it is it's either close but not quite, temporary luck... or some weird sort of price fix. At least no one would give him grief for bringing a holo suit out of this place. They way he had seen the technology work, it sounded like something he was definitely going to need if Shiro was to live with him.
As Yukiko explained the digivice, Chester stood up, threw it on the ground hard as he could, and tried to stomp on it. No dice; it survived the onslaught. "Hmm." Chester sat back down. Man, what luck it was for him that the woman across from him was so knowledgeable on these matters, even more knowledgeable than most if her credentials were to be believed. This 'club' was truly intriguing. "Tell me more about the digital field club," he requested of Yukiko, "You're... scientists? I don't know if I mentioned this last time, but I'm a zoologist myself." He prodded his own digimon with a foot. He didn't stir. "I'm gonna have a field day with this one, I think."

Yukiko blushed, caught off guard by Chester's reaction to the currency. Fact was, she never really questioned the whole Bits to Yen ratio, she just took it at face value, but once you thought about it, it did seem weird...! "W-w-w-well, I dunno, I j-j-j-just take it as it is, it's convenient..."
She quickly jumped onto the question concerning her club to throw this blunder out of existence. "Ah, the club, yes! Indeed, we of the Digital Field Club are scientists, dedicated to researching the Digital World! ...th-that said, my friend Ayumi is a scientist, I'm just a bit of a hanger-on. She's a genius and spends most of her time here to go on all sorts of research trips. I mostly just research out of curiosity, since I am not a trained scientist. I can't even decide whether I wanna become a lifeguard or an aquarium worker..."

Chester noticed just how much Yukiko's demeanor changed as the subject changed to something she felt more comfortable with, and that was because he knew it was the exact same way. Funny enough it turned out to be a very similar topic, too. "So... you're saying people are already doing the leg work figuring out what exactly this all is." That was more of a question than a statement, but it probably showed in his face and tone he was mildly impressed. "Most of the time in books and movies the newcomers to the world are on their own and totally in the dark. So... that helps." He leaned forward with a little interest. "Well, since I'm in this either way, where can I find what they know? It sounds like I have a lot of reading to do." Just then Chester thought he might have a mutually beneficial proposal. "You know what? I have an idea. I'd love to meet this Field Club. If you can introduce me some time... I can get you a job."

Yukiko blinked at the proposition. "E-e-e-eh? J-j-j-j-just like that? I-i-i-i-is that even allowed?" She took a deep breath. After all, this was an -opportunity-, she did not want to let it slip away. "W-w-w-well, okay! I'll take you to the Great Moving Library as soon as we reach Terminus, alright? There, you can meet the club! The Library is out base of operation after all..." She scratched her head, and gave an awkward smile, as the train slowly came to a stop, having reached Terminus City. "Ah, s-s-s-speak of the devil, here we are!" Mizu grunted, opening her eyes. "Bleh, I wanna sleep mooore..."

"Well I happen to know the head of the aquarium department, Kiko, is kinda sweet on me. I hear she likes guys with foreign accents, and Seattle is definitely a foreign accent in Tokyo." Chester smirked as he tooted his own horn, showing no apparent shame for anything he'd just said. "So I'm sure I can make it happen. Quick question, though." Chester took a moment to anxiously tug on his collar. Apparently, that question made him a little anxious. "You called it the Great Moving Library. That's- that's just a fancy name... right?"
Clearly, Shiro shared Mizu's frustration with such a short nap. His Tamer was able to stand, but he couldn't walk as the bear was on top of his feet. "Hey, Shiro, we gotta go." A few tugs on the leash and attempts to lift his feet, though, didn't get any reaction except an annoyed growl. "We gotta-" With a big grunt and good tug, Chester was able to free his own feet from under Shiro, which finally made the ursine look up, yawn, and stand. "Finally." The young man was at last able to coax Shiro into following himself off of the train.

Both Tamer and Digimon gave Chester a Look for that statement, though Yukiko's was more in the vein of confused and embarrassed, while Mizu clearly didn't take it seriously. Better not dwell on it! "Uh, a-a-a-ctually, it's not just a name...it moves...on big treads...b-b-but that just means we can call ahead to get it to come to us for a shorter trip." "Yup, Miss Usako is great like that!~"
As Chester stepped out of the station, he got his first glimpse at the immense, futuristic Digimon city, with its crystalline architecture, overuse of neon and, of course, the countless Digimon running around, in all imaginable shapes and sizes. He could even see a Bearmon passing by on a nearby street, its bipedal and civilized look contrasting with Shiro's primal stance. "W-w-w-well, here we are. D-d-d-do you want to look around first, or d-d-d-o you want to go to the Library immediately?"
