A Flower Laden Path [Eris/Mono][DFRP V-day event]

Though still early into the afternoon the festival was in full swing. The air was alight with the scent of various foods and spices that filled the stall laden streets. Games were already being set-up and vendors had begun hawking their wares of brightly colored ribbons, masks, and snacks. Above them strings of lanterns were threaded between flower laden branches their colors casting soft light on the faint pink and white petals tinting them in various shades of the rainbow. In the distance in one of the open areas the twinkling lights of a ferris wheel could be seen as it made it's slow steady rotation. The echoing voices of excitable digimon screaming out playfully as it descended their hands thrown up into the air in joy. It was an idyllic scene as groups of Mons and even a few humans wove their way through the streets in pairs dressed in traditional garb. Some together. Some as friends. But one Digimon sat alone. A tiny red Gigimon dressed in a pale pink and white kimono sat resting beneath the shade of one of the blossom laden trees. Her bright sky blue eyes watching the crowds with a sort of niave hope as she fidgeted with the carefully wrapped bento at her feet. Checking once and then twice that it was properly tied before adjusting the pink blossoms tucked behind her ears for what had to be the fifth time, the tip of her tail twitching with nervous excitement as she waited. Her blind date would be here soon hopefully. She'd asked they meet her under the first blossom tree on the street only she had to hope that her date wasn't really blind or come to think of it her directions would be terribly insensitive.

Monodramon stopped in front of the road that led to the festival, frozen solid. Of all the times to decide not to help him, why did they have to go and pick now? He turned to them like a broken sprinkler, even a little water on the forehead perhaps unconsciously to match. "You cannot be serious. I've never done this before! I mean I heard a thing or two, but what if I screw up?""Then you failed. And you will have another chance, in another time. Life is learned through failure." Was it just him, or did Rain seem to raise her chin a little higher than usual? Well, no matter she wasn't going to be of any help, so Monodramon made puppy eyes at Silence instead. The shoutmon simply gave him a thumbs up and a grin though. It felt like he was trying to say "go get her champ!" or something, if he actually talked. There was no hope for him, was there? Monodramon gulped and marched into the crowd. I didn't feel any love. It's like...all empty and soulless.Ever since Monodramon heard those words, he couldn't help but wonder what the fuss was all about. He found that, if one were to pay attention, they would hear the word being brought up surprisingly often. Digimon from all overwould "love" the sunset, "love" the beauty of cherry blossoms, "love" the taste of a good breakfast, "love" their families... And humans, humans loved too. Of course though, he wasn't so unaware as to not know "love" in many of those wasn't really... "love". Then again, maybe it was since he had no idea what it was supposed to actually feel like. He only heard tales. There was a single moment of light pressure, and then Monodramon found himself in the ground. His gaze traced the shining silvery feet right up to a belt, a chest and lastly an angry face with some kind of sunglasses on. A metaletemon. "EEP! I'm really sorry!" Monodramon immediately moved to all fours to beg forgiveness. The metaletemon just scoffed. "Just watch where you're going little digi." With those words, the metallic digimon proceeded towards his own destination. I got up, fortunately in one piece and kept heading for the first cheery blossom. He probably wasn't that far. He could see just after the curve was the old store where he found the pamphlet about the blind dates. For any digimon or human that wanted to give dating a try, they would get them contact with someone for a blind date. Monodramon's cheeks grew a little red, and he was tempted to cover his face as he also recalled that he asked if he would be required to bring a blindfold back then. At last the first cherry blossom came into view. Its shade was occupied by an unfamiliar but expected face, a little red digimon dressed in a beautiful traditional pinkish attire. She was looking around judging by the fidgeting of her eyes, and the way her tail was moving made monodramon pick up his pace, as clearly she HAD to be losing patience with him. "Hey. I'm Monodramon. Are you perchance... Eris?" Monodramon raised a hand and smiled nervously. Now, everything seemed to indicate this was, in fact, her, so he decided to move on, and so he bowed. "I'm really sorry for being late! I ran into some...unforseen circumstances."

The Gigimon smiled sweetly up at him all bright eyes and excitement as she took in the appearance of her date concern briefly flashing through those sky blue orbs at the sight of the Monodramon's bandages. "Yes I'm Eris! And you must be Monodramon?" She questioned her tone a little hesitant as she confirmed that this was indeed her date as she fidget slightly with her pink and white kimono before the tip of her tail twitching slightly with nervous excitement.
"H-here! I made you some riceballs and snacks in case you missed breakfast! I made too much for myself this morning so I thought it might be nice to share." She murmured nudging the handkerchief wrapped box forward.
"We can take a break here in the shade and eat and get to know each other if you like? Or we can forgo that and maybe play some games?" Eris suggest unsure of what exact activities her date would be interested in, but more then willing to seek out whatever fun there was to be had to entertain them.
"Um..." She trailed off her usually confident voice going shy and unsure. "Are you ok? Are you hurt? If your meant to be resting I don't want you to over do it just for a date no matter how much fun we might have." The little Gigimon inquired a small wrinkle of concern marring her brow.

"Monodramon is indeed my name." He responded. So, this was his date. She was red and rather tiny compared to how he currently was, and she carried a bit of charm in the way she spoke, the slight mixture of excitement and concern in her eyes and the way she dressed alike. Monodramon attempted to remember where the familiar shape of her body was from, finally reaching the suspicion she might be a gigimon, like the ones he saw back when he was still in the village of beginnings. He couldn't help but wonder whether he was being rude by remaining in his rookie stage, seeing how his partner came to him in her baby stage. He knew all too well the bitter pricking of seeing others flaunting around that they could reach greater heights than you. "Would you like me to devolve? I wouldn't want to be rude."Eris then whipped out something wrapped within a handkerchief. It seemingly had a mostly cubical shape, but it wasn't until Eris mentioned "rice balls" "snacks" and "breakfast" that Monodramon realized what the contents were supposed to be and his eyes glittered with anticipation, even before she directly invited him to sit down and eat with her. Oh, and also talk. Eating...and talking. There was another option wrapped in there somewhere, and it wasn't like Monodramon had actually missed breakfast, but how could he not be happy with being offered something yummy from the getgo? Eris was someone very nice indeed, from first impressions at least. "The first! I would love to do the first." Monodramon pretty much threw his hands to grab Eri's front paws, looking right into her eyes as he responded. Keeping that big bright smile that had quickly formed in place of the prior nervousness, Monodramon took a seat right next to Eris, leaning his back straight into the cherry blossom tree. "You seem to be really nice. Have you ever done this before? This "dating" thing? I hope I don't do anything to screw it up. Well, I WAS a little late... sorry about that."Before they could really get started though, something else seemed to be on Eri's mind. There was that concern in her eyes again, this time seeming to be winning out. "Something the matter?" Monodramon inquired. In turn, Eris asked him if he was hurt, and that he should rest if he was supposed to. Monodramon looked down, and stared at the bandages that covered his limbs. He raised a hand and with it touched the similar ones running over where his eye used to be or should have been once. Finally, he shook his head and flashed a smile he hoped would be reassuring to Eris. "I would be lying if I said I wasn't hurt. But it was a long time ago, for me anyway. I am doing much better now, so you don't need to worry about me. That is, unless, I am too unsightly to look at. I cannot deny the wonder I feel looking at you, and thinking about going on this date. Even more so now that you not only look well, but have shown to be kind too. And that's all the more reason I wouldn't want to ruin your date time if you don't want to spend it looking at me."

"Oh no! I can get a lot bigger if need be, but I have difficulty holding higher forms. Anything above a champ and it becomes a strain. Specially without the adrenaline of a fight to keep me going." Eris explained quickly reassuring Monodramon that his current appearance was perfectly fine and she felt in no way insulted or intimidated. Though that didn't stop her face from briefly morphing into one of horror at the thought he thought she might be implying that his injuries made him hideous to her.
"No! No! That's not it! I think you look just fine! It's just my family does a lot of fighting and my cousin always says that it's really important to rest and heal after the injuries of a battle." She elaborated hoping to make it clear that she didn't find him distasteful in any such way even as she carefully undid the handkerchief revealing a small blue plastic bento box covered with pictures of stars.
"Here. I wasn't sure what flavor you liked so I made a variety. There's plain, sesame, seaweed, plum, all sorts." The little Gigimon explained nudging the bento forward for him to partake of. "I sadly forgot to bring any drinks, but maybe we can pick up a fizzy soda or some tea at the fair." She added brightly hoping the food was to Mono's taste.
"And um. Well I've never been on a date either, but dates I believe are just sharing a fun and memorable experience with another so you can learn about and grow closer to each other. Anything more then that comes after." She explained aware that perhaps her view of things was a little naive, but in her heart of hearts she felt that such was the right approach to things. Maybe she didn't love Monodramon at least not in the romantic sense, but Eris thought she had enough love in her heart that she certainly didn't mind sharing it with a stranger that maybe one day they could become friends.

Monodramon sighed in relief. So it wasn't that she couldn't evolve, only that she chose not to for convenience, since apparently, it put a strain on her to maintain those more advanced forms. That at dispelled part of his concerns at least. Now that he thought about it though, she would still probably have trouble keeping up with him when he walked: his legs alone were half the size of her whole body. A idea, perhaps a silly idea but hopefully a good one, crossed his mind in that moment. He stood up and kneeled before her, gently stabbing into the ground to her right with his right hand's drills, and with his left hand's drills on the ground to her left. "This seems about right." He commented. Then realizing he started moving without even asking. "Ah, I apologize. You were saying?" Monodramon got back to sitting in his previous spot and the conversation moved on to his wounds and bandages. Monodramon still couldn't shake the feeling his bandages might've been bothering her, even if she insisted it was just because of her family's beliefs. Monodramon looked up at the blooming petals of the tree. Family. Dorbickmon did often make him rest, back when he was in the dojo. Though, he was barely allowed to participate back then. Nomatter how much he insisted. And now Dorbickmon had gone missing, so Rain and Silence had sought him out instead. Would they tell him to rest? He couldn't help but break out a chuckle. "Nah, Rain just tell me I'm not going at it hard enough if I needed to rest "just from a few cuts" hehe." With a grin still plastered on his face, Monodramon watched as Eris unwrapped what turned out to be a blue box with a cute little pattern, but the real goldmine was what was inside. Monodramon couldn't bent himself from bending the food and setting his eyes on the food like he intended to eat with them. Eris, in turn, explained that these were made in all sorts of flavors, and before she could even confess she'd forgotten the drinks, Monodramon had already grabbed a random couple of them bitten large chunks out of both. "Thish ish weawally good! Chiu made thish?"Eris professed that this was a first time for her as well, while Monodramon took another bite off his riceballs. She told him that she believes dates to be a shared experience to make them grow closer. This probably was how dates were connected to love, though Monodramon was still a little confused in how just spending time together would make people fall in love. Was that what she meant by "what comes after"? Well, in the end, neither of them were experts. So they would be better off just having fun, like she said. Monodramon threw in what remained of two riceballs and finally swallowed. He didn't quite pick up what the two mixed flavors were, but what mattered was they were beyond a doubt yummy. Well, truth be told ever since his trip to the human world he had abandoned any pretense of being picky about what he ate... but there was no point bringing it up now. "Now, I'll definitely have to do it. But first, we'll finish eating. And you also said you wanted to talk....Hmmm..." What was there for him to talk about? It wasn't like he lacked topics, but what would she want to talk about too? "Oh! What is your favorite place in the world? Err, I mean, worlds."

The little Gigimon flinched her eyes darting first between Mono and his right hand where he had stabbed just to her left and then to his left hand he'd stabbed into the earth to her right. The In-training digimon confused by the sudden motion and his mention of "This seems about right," as she pondered if the action was an implied threat or if he was merely measuring her, but then why? For now with a slightly hesitant smile she chose to assume it was just an odd quirk of his character.
"I'm glad you like them." Eris murmured, at least the draconic rookie seemed to like the riceballs quickly eating them in rapid succession as he spoke around a full mouth. Causing Eris to blink and once more smile awkwardly as she nudged the box forward forgoing her own portion in exchange for letting him eat his fill. She'd already had breakfast after all and could pick up more food during the fair. Turning his question over in her mind she found it secondary to the insecurity that had begun to creep over her during their interaction.
"I think if I had to pick a favorite..." Eris thought mind darting over her options, "I'd choose the Palace of Fallen Champions. My Dad takes me there sometime to visit the past heroes." She explained her smile shifting from awkward to gentle when she thought of her family, to briefly sad as she realized her Mother would never be depicted there despite her bravery. She didn't even know what her Mother had looked like.
"Umm..." The Gigimon began wincing at her own awkwardness. Vivian had always said 'um' was not a proper way to start a conversation. "You keep implying you'll mess our date up. Do you mind if I ask why?" She questioned softly.
"You, I mean," Eris stammered, "I can't see any reason you would think or want to do that unless you just don't want to go on a date with me." She explained sadly her little winged red ears drooping a bit in sorrow.
"Which I mean that's fine!" She added quickly realizing the dragon might take her words the wrong way like he had her concerns, "You don't have to go on a date with me. I'd never force someone to go on a date." Eris quickly corrected not wanting him to misconstrue her words once more.

"The palace of fallen champions? I've heard about it, but I've never really been there. It's that place with all the statues, right?" Monodramon wondered if that "him" that Rain and Silence kept trying to make him remember would be depicted in there. Wait... could Dorbickmon be there? Was he considered a hero? He sure did seem like one to Monodramon. "I think I'd love to visit it sometime though! There have to be so many amazing heroes and stories there, and I heard it was super well decorated too. I wonder how the food is like over there..."As Monodramon went to grab a couple more of the delicious treats the girl had brought, he realized that if he kept eating the way he started there wouldn't be enough for Eris herself to eat. He had had breakfast (though he certainly didn't mind extra food), so he grabbed two of the remaining riceballs and handed one to Eris. "Don't you want to eat too? They are really great. There was also something about taste and other people... I don't remember very well, but I think it was a positive thing." He smiled and took another bite off the riceball delicacy. Eris, however, seemed a little displeased, and voiced her concerns about Monodramon not wanting to go on the da- "Wait, no, no, no! Why would I want out? You have been so kind and so well prepared that I, I..."Monodramon stopped for a moment. Had he been acting wrong this whole time? He wanted to be considerate but... no, maybe he just wasn't properly thinking about it from the way she saw it. He rubbed his temples, trying to figure out the solution, but in the end of the day, he just couldn't grasp what might be going through her head. So, there was only one person who could help him here. Monodramon breathed in, deciding to face her with complete honesty today. "The thing is I...I'm not entirely sure what a date...is... " he confessed. "I do have a bit of a vague idea, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do something or not do some other thing. And, well, you've treated me so well, and you've shown up so pretty, and here I am, like this... I guess I am a little bit at a loss. I thought I was going to have help, but I didn't. So, that's why... but I want to have this date! Even if I'm not really sure of everything that entails, I want to have this date!" There was something refreshing about letting it all out, Monodramon found. Then again, his head was heating up so much from all the blushing, he wasn't sure how good that other ventilation might actually be. He cleared his throat, prepared to ask if she wanted to go as well, but he stopped himself in his tracks. That was not what she wanted to hear. He stood up, kneeled next to her and attempted to pick up the Gigimon. "My turn. Please allow me to treat you to something. Is there anywhere you'd like to go? Or anything you'd like to have?"

Eris wasn't entirely certain how to explain to the Monodramon that she didn't want to get to know or spend time with whatever face he felt like putting forward for the date. That being strangers the fact this was a date, even their first date, shouldn't matter. What should matter was getting to know each other. Something the Gigimon felt she was no further along in doing then she had been to begin with. However, smiling politely, Eris stepped back out of range of his grip as Monodramon knelt before her to pick her up. Latching onto that kernal of power within her soul the Gigimon concentrated and felt her form shift, briefly mourning that the data of her kimono wouldn't survive the change, before the light gave way and for a second a Black Guilmon X-antibody stood there, before her appearance quickly turned red as the holosuit kicked back into action. Perhaps her brief color before had merely been a trick of the eye. "I can walk on my own if that's all right." Eris demurred polite smile still in place, "I already ate breakfast so we can always get some more food later. So please don't worry about me Monodramon." She added voice light and friendly. "Please don't feel so nervous anymore. Why don't we go play some of the games to relax? Have you ever been to a fair before?" The Guilmon-X questioned with a curious tilt of her head. Hoping an activity might ease her companions awkwardness brought on by nerves.

Monodramon gave Eris a confused stare as she fled from him: "I wasn't going to hurt you! I just thought I might carry you for a bit, since your legs are, you know, so tiny like this..." It was only then he realized her intentions, as her body began shining, and morphing, and for a moment Monodramon thought he even saw some pitch-black thing, but it wasn't anywhere to be seen after a blink. He blinked a few more times and even rubbed his eyes to make sure he wasn't missing anything or seeing things, but stopped soon as Eris told him she'd rather walk on her own, and that she had already eaten too, so he shouldn't worry about her. Monodramon chuckled a little bit. "Oh uhm...is that so? Well, then please inform me if there is anything I can do for you, or help you with."He did nod vehemently, however, when she inquired if he had ever been to a fair before. "Yeah, yeah I did! It was back when I was traveling with Wisemon. Though back then I didn't walk around the festivals or fairs a lot, I just helped him run the stand most of the time until the fireworks. Hmmm, how about we start we some simple ring tossing? Or scooping gold fish? Wait, but if we scooped gold fish, we would have to carry it around. It's not like we could sell them off right away. Well, right toss will be my first suggestion then. What do you think Eris?" A big bright smile plastered on Monodramon's face. Then, he reached out a hand towards Eri's own. "Shall we hold hands? There seemed to be a lot of mons going to the festival too. We wouldn't want to be separated, right? Even if you can walk on your own hehe."

"I didn't think you'd hurt me. I just wasn't very comfortable at the idea of being picked up or carried without notice is all. Sides this way you don't have to worry about my size." Eris explained as she smiled with a flash of pearly white teeth her eyes half closed in a friendly gesture. She would however reach out to take his offered hand gripping his carefully with her talons as the two turned towards the festival.
"Why don't we get some festival masks and do the ring toss like you suggested? Then we could go play darts or um get some food or ride the rides." The Guilmon suggested as she padded forward wobbling only a little as she got used to walking on two legs as the pair padded towards the festival and it's festivities.
It wasn't particularly difficult to find a mask shop or a ring toss. Both were fairly popular and there were even multiple booths with both. The one Eris stopped at however had various kabuki style masks which she peered up at happily pointing out the various faces with amusement to Mono.

Note to self, Monodramon thought, ladies do not like to be carried. Now he knew, and smiled when she took his hand, as the two began to make their way up the road to the actual festival. "Oh, there are rides here?" He would definitely have to check those out. They seemed like so much fun, and he hadn't had a chance to before. But save the best for the end, as they said. "Have you ever been to one of these festivals before Eris? You seem to be quite familiar with what it has. Oh, and uhm, sure, let's do that!"For their first target, they came across a set of shops run by a group of ogremon selling kabuki masks. Eris herself seemed rather amused by the kabuki masks in particular, with all their strange faces and a weird beauty to them. Monodramon laughed alongside her, grabbing one of the masks for his own, a red one with a ver pointy nose and dark, thick frowning eyebrows. "Look Eris. I'm an angry puppet mon! Waaa! Waaa! Hehehe." Mask strapped on his face Monodramon raised his arms while deepening his voice for the supposed "angry puppetmon"'s lines. The store vendor laughed alongside him, a laugh which sounded a little forced, but as long as Eris was laughing too... Still, the inside of the mask had a weird scent. Monodramon sniffed a little, before taking out the mask and sniffing it again. He turned to the vendor. "What is this I'm smelling on the mask?""Ah, the masks were freshly painted you see, right before the festival. They should be dry enough by now, however I must apologize if the scent is a bother, since it takes a bit more to go away. It IS a brand new mask though, and the smell should away pretty soon. Or if you'd prefer, I can give you an older one too. Would you be interested?"Monodramon tilted his head. "Freshly painted? They look so old though..."The ogremon chuckled. "Hahaha, they are simply traditional. We have painted them in this manner for many generations, they're our pride. Hand-painted carefully, passionately and with lots of love.""With love huh..." Monodramon was lost in thought for a moment, before recalling he still had to get back to the date with Eris. "Oh, sorry, I'll maybe buy one later. Do you want to get anything or should we move to the ring toss now?"

Eris smiled at Monodramon's antics though she couldn't help cocking her head a little trying to see what he saw in the mask. She supposed it did look a bit like a Puppetmon with that nose, the realization drawing a small laugh from the Guilmon X. "It suits you~ I think that ones supposed to be something called a tengu. They're great martial artists if I remember right from the human world." She mused trying to remember all she knew about the mythical figures. At least she thought they were maybe mythical? The human world had many strange things.
"Oh look!" She called out spying a cat mask as she drew it down and stuck to her own face, the painted wooden mask sitting a bit strangely over her longer snout as she made a small meowing noise. "I look like Kitt now!" She chirped pulling it off with a smile as she handed a few bits to the owner to pay for it and tied it sideways on her head.
"I'll have to surprise my friend with it later." She chuckled before catching Mono's question.
"We can go do the ring toss now if you're ready." The Guilmon chirped her tail wagging slowly behind her as she turned towards the crowds trying to spot one of the games and chart their path.
"I've been to a few of these festivals actually. My Dad and I usually go to them as a family, but it's not bad seeing it with a friend." She added blue eyes going half closed as she smiled.

"Humans have martial arts too?!" Monodramon was genuinely shocked. He tapped his forehead, trying to recall where he might have spotted humans doing martial arts. He recalled some people in white robes doing a series of weird gestures. "So they weren't just dancing after all... If I ever go back there, I'll definitely have to check them out, their martial arts. I bet Rain and Silence would really love if I could learn anything there and teach them."Eris grabbed a mask painted like one of those digimon Monodramon had only found in the human world, and made that noise sometimes humans would use to talk to the digimon. "Kitt? Who's that?" Monodramon inquired, tilting his head as Eris declared that she now looked like the one in question. Maybe this "Kitt" was a tailmon? He did notice they were very similar to those digimon from the human world. Probably a friend of Eri's too, judging by what she said afterwards. As they started making their way to the ring toss, Eris brought up the fact that she often came here with her father. Fathers were like the "mommies" Unica told Monodramon about back in the human world, except the other gender or something like that. They were people that took care of them and really cared about them. "I'm glad to be able to live up to that person then. I'm sure your father is a wonderful digimon. Oh, we're here." A tengumon was nearly asleep guarding the ring toss. The rings came in various patterns while the box with the poles themselves was a little titled map titled "the spears of meggiddo". Monodramon placed some bits by the tengumon's lap and swiped away a few rings for himself and Eris, handing her half. Next, he turned around. "I'll be going first then."He threw once, it completely missed. The next time at least it hit the box. The third time it landed between the poles. "Ah, it's like a dream. You can keep trying and never quite get there, but still be getting closer." Monodramon smiled at his own comment. That line came out really smart-sounding, he felt. He was proud to have come up with it then.
