Whitewater had been a place that Mae had stopped by in rather frequently, but not for this purpose. She had signed up for this...blind date thing, and it directed her to the front of the Caritas. The Meicrackmon, not wishing to be actually seen in that form, opted to don her new holosuit. That of an older version of the young girl she once posed as. Yet wearing a hat and a dress, and with much longer hair. It was safe to say this was definitely something you'd see in a club. Or preparing to go to one. "Hm. Maybe it -was- a scam..." The starry eyed woman uttered idly, checking her D-Terminal for anything new. People came and went from the entrance and Mae herself simply paced around some. She seemed...annoyed at something. "Why did I sign up for this?" John thought as he walked through Whitewater, looking at the directions he got off of Tamernet. "I've never gone on a date before, much less a blind one, what was I even thinking when I did this?"
[One night, at 3 am]
John is lazily browsing Tamernet, and sees the signup for blind dates, he stairs at it groggily and gives it careful consideration. "...Eh, alright." He shrugs, and begins signing up.
[Present day]
"Oh, right. Dang it tired me!" He said as he pinched the bridge of his nose, getting some odd looks from others passing by. Looking around he saw the different couples, both human and digimon, who where enjoying the holiday. Seeing them like this he started to think about his situation differently.
"Hmm, maybe this wont be as bad as I thought, I mean I can't avoid getting into this kind of relationship forever, I've been in japan longer then any one school semester back in the USA, perhaps this time my location will stick." Thinking this, and with a newfound confidence, John continued on towards the meetup spot for his date, thinking back to before he left as he walked.
[That day, back in his room.]
John was pacing back and forth in the living room, nervous as all heck, Runa was in her renamon form playing Puyo Puyo Tetris, "Calm down, your uncle will be here." She said as she was working on stage 5-9.
John was clean as he had taken a shower half an hour ago. "That's not what I'm worried about, what if I make a fool of myself, what if they decide to ditch me, what if we really hit it off and it turns out I have to move back to america and continue my dad's fruitless search for mom. What if-"
He continues on as he sound of Runa failing the stage for the 20th time in a row plays, with her ear twitching in frustration she gets up and puts a paw on his shoulder, making him stop his rambling. "Listen, your overthinking this, what's gonna happen tonight is you are gonna have a good time, meet someone new, and depending on how things go, get a friend or girlfriend, that's all."
Runa's words calmed down John, just in time as a knock on the door was heard "Now if you don't mind, I need to concentrate on this stage." Runa said as she jumped over the couch, getting ready to fail for 20 more attempts, at least. John power walked to the door, opening it to see some delivery person holding a box and a clipboard. "Sign here please." he said, after he left with it signed, John took the package and walked to his room as Runa had failed for the 22nd time.
John opened the package on his bed and saw a black dress suit with a black bow tie, bag with 1000 bits, black shoes, and a note inside. "Hey John, sorry for not being their, work came up and I needed to take care of it, I sent the tux through an instant service along with some bits for your date, I hope you have fun. Uncle Dan."
[Present day]
As he arrived at the destination, the Caritas. John, who was dressed in his new suit, and bits in his wallet, saw his date, who he thought was rather attractive. He was still unsure as to if she was his date, so with slight hesitation he walked up to her. "Uh hi, I was wondering if you're my date today? I was directed to come here, but I'm not used to this kind of thing." He said, looking a bit nervous.

Mae was genuinely considering opening a digi-port back to the Great Moving Library, finding some anime and spending the night watching it before a voice had actually caught her attention. "So it wasn't a scam after all..." She mused. The woman turned around, and John would be greeted with what might be the single most unsettling pair of eyes one can ever see.
Well, that's mainly because they were Meicoomon eyes.
And immediately, Mae recognized this person. This was that guy from back when she met dad. You know, the same dumbass that overturned her cardboard box and also saw her Digivolve just to punch someone in the face. "...Oh. John. It's you." The lady adjusted her wide-brimmed hat. "Ah...fancy seeing you here, I suppose."
There was another brief bit of silence from the lady, before... "...And no, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing here, either. What's a blind date? Er. What's a date, I mean."

John froze as he looked her in the eyes, making him feel a mix of disturbed an intrigued at the same time, but he didn't show it. What did make him show surprise was hearing the voice of someone he knew. "Oh hey it's Mae, the one who I... Oh crap."
As he thought this, he couldn't help but cringe at remembering his bad first impression he made to Mae and Kappy, and now he didn't have Runa to keep him from making a fool of himself, but he decided to push past this embarrassment and stay calm. "Oh Mae, nice to see you again, although you look different this time, it's interesting that we where to meet again like this."
John once again was surprised by Mae, when she asked what a date was, he had to think a moment to come up with an answer. "Well... When two people like each other in a romantic way, they go on a date, it's a way for them to get to know each other better and show that they want to spend more time together, possibly the rest of their lives if it gets that serious. A blind date is where two people can meet someone new and maybe get into a relationship if they choose to, I guess that first step is null in our case, heh."
John chuckled a bit, rubbing the back of his neck, hoping that his explanation was enough, his attention was briefly drawn to the building they where in front of, after looking at the sign he turned to Mae. "This is the place right, you okay with us going inside since we're here?" He asked, motioning towards the entrance. "I personally don't want this suit to go to waste, and I'm guessing you mae be hungry as wall as I am?"

"Of course I look different--that's what a holosuit's for, you dunce! I didn't have one that time!" The hatted lady seemed...was indignant the right term to utilize here? Uncertain.
The woman put a finger to her chin. "Romantic...The definition of that is conducive to or characterized by the expression of love. So what amount of love does it take to make things get that serious? In fact, what is 'that serious?" She mused, before she quirked a brow. "It's not really blind if it's someone you know, yes. I didn't -know- who I was getting so the first step is still present in some way, shape or form. And yes, this is the place. I thought dates just go to this club to do whatever."
...
"Also, that pun was bad. You should feel terrible."
....Wow, Mae really, really, undoubtedly SUCKED at this date thing. Like, legit, she had zero idea how to be nice to her date or anything. "...But yes, yes, I am hungry. And I don't feel like hoping something tries to kill me so I can eat it instead."

John mentally face palmed himself at his holosuit remark, "Right out of the gate I make a fool of myself, I hope this isn't a consent with our meetings." He thought to himself, luckily for him he had an opportunity to do the thing that usually calms him down, snark.
"Hmmm I don't know about how much love, but if I had to guess I'd say about 80% love, and as for what I meant for 'that serious' was marriage, although that could have meant anything, could have been talking about introspection for all you knew... Which come to think of it could describe marriage in a way."
As Mae continued on, John realized something, "Wow she is really bad at this dating thing, like worse then me, well considering she didn't know what a date was until now, I guess I can't blame her." After thinking this, he continued on his snark.
"Well, 'whatever' is a way to put it, but none of that is anything I've done before, so let's start with a nice dinner for now." John enters and hold the door for her. "As for that comment on my pun, I'll take it as a complement." when they got to the front desk, John walked up to it and said, "Table for two please." the receptionist nodded and told them to wait a moment as they got one ready. As they waited, John decided to start some small talk, "So how have things been with you and Kappy, Mae?"

"...The heck's a marriage? Is that that thing Dr. Mikemon and K do, according to my source that's definitely not their daughter?" One had to remember that this was someone who barely had any parental involvement in their life, if at all.
"This whole thing has...way too many what-ifs. What if the love isn't real. What if the definitions of serious are different for both parties? So nebulous. So many possibilities. Kind of hurts to think about, admittedly." Mae entered the nightclub and waited for John to make the appropriate arrangements, before she looked a bit taken aback at his question.
"...So, uh. That's a bit of an awkward question. Turns out he...may or may not be my father. I also have not seen him since that day. At all. No trace whatsoever. It's like he was a ghost or something..."

"Ah, well marriage is a ceremony where two people pledge to spend the rest of their lives together, there's a lot of different traditions surrounding this event depending on different factors, religion being one of the most common. There are people who would want to go with something really extravagant, others would want something simple, but I personally don't have a preference, as long as the girl I choose to marry is happy, I'll be happy. Although, with my life..."
John trails off, his eyes stare off in the distance before continuing on another topic. "Love is very complicated, there's no one kind of love really, there's platonic love, where you can love someone but your just really good friends, or your related to them, you could love someone for years but one day find you no longer do, or there's love at first sight, which I think is just someone attracted to someone based on looks alone."
"there are other kinds but we could spend all night discussing them all, and we'd still wouldn't be done. In the end, the best kind of love is one that's built on a friendship, something that takes time to develop with someone, at least that's what I think."
John was surprised to hear that Kappy was her dad, his left eye slightly twitching when Mae told him he just left. "Really? That sucks, I mean after meeting you again he just up and leaves? If he is your dad, then he better have a good reason for leaving you like that." He said with a hint of venom in his voice.
As he finished, The receptionist returned with a Terriermon who led them to a table, lighting a candle that was in the middle, then leaving menus for the two of them. "You're waiter will be here shortly, we hope you enjoy yourselves." He said before going to another table. "Well while we wait, do you have any questions for me?" John asked, handing the question asking to Mae.

...Yeah. Mae got what she was expecting with that explanation. She had an answer but how was she gonna make sense of any of that? "...Human traditions continue to perplex me. I think if I were ever put in that situation I'd just ask that my partner leave me alone a lot. It'd probably be better for both of us."
There was one thing that Mae understood perfectly, though. "Ohoho, yeah, I have seen some people confess something like that for other people when having only met them a grand total of once. Plus, Kappy told me this story of his old tamer getting flirted with by this incredibly annoying swordsman. That he also threatened at swordpoint." ...speaking of.
"In his defense, if I were under mind control for who knows how long and suddenly freed? I'd...disappear for a bit too. You don't know what you did during that time. Besides. I've lived with basically no one for a long time. I'll do so as long as I continue to exist. And believe me, Digimon are potentially undying."
Did she have any questions? "The more sassy would retort with "I have a lot of questions, first off, how dare you," but I actually have one. Did they seriously name a sandwich the Monte Cristo? Because I want one." For the uneducated? A Monte Cristo was definitely not a reference to a particular book, but a ham and cheese sandwich. From America.
Might strike some chords of familiarity. Might now.

John found it a bit odd that Mae would ask that of a possible future partner, even more that she thought it would be best for them, "Is she an introvert? Hmm I think I'll hold off on that question for tonight, seems like a personal subject, plus a really weird question to ask someone." After deciding that in his head, John continued with the conversation. "Oh, that's why? Huh, I guess I made an assumption, sorry I guess hearing that he left touched a nerve for me."
John was glancing at the menu when he heard her mention the Monte Cristo sandwich, bringing memories that he had forgotten. "Oh heck yeah, that's a good sandwich, when I was 10 my dad took me to this restaurant in Settle Washington, and it was the best sandwich I had at that time."
John brow furrowed, "I remember Dad was really happy, like more then usual, which for him are few and far between these days, I don't quite remember what it was that he was so happy about, but I think I have an idea." Before he could continue, a Flamon walked up to them with a notepad and pen, "Hi, I'm Flamon, and I shall be your waiter for this evening, what can I get you two to drink?" He asked.
John jumped a little when their waiter walked up to them, before turning to him. "I'll just have a water, with a lemon if you can." After the waiter took the their drink orders, he smiled at them. "Okay I will be back with your drinks shortly, and then I'll take your food orders if you have decided." He said and turned to leave the table

Good thing John didn't ask that. Mae had no idea what the hell an introvert even was. "Yeah. Might be for the best. Might be for the worst. Don't know. Don't care." The actual reason was more an OOC reason than anything, but nobody needed to know that. "Oh, so it's...from America. Yet Monte Cristo's around France...Did someone name it after that, then?"
...John seemed really fixated on his dad. Huh. "What...would that be?" Mae inquired before the Flamon came up. "Oh, uh. Spyritus." She said, with a completely straight face, before she burst into a chuckle. "Oh, no, I'm not actually suicidal. Just absinthe, please." For a moment, it seemed like Mae had decided to order 96% vodka from hell.
Thankfully nobody did that. Instead she went for...alcohol still. But not the crazy vodka. "And to eat I'll have the Monte Cristo."

John shrugged, "I guess, I think my dad said the dish was based on another french sandwich, I think it was called Croque monsieur?" The Flamon came back with a tray that had a glass of water and a lemon slice, a bottle with green liquid, and a empty wine glass. As he put them down and poured some of the drink Mae he order for her, before turning to John. "Are you ready to order, sir?" he asked. Thinking for a moment, John decided and answered. "You know, I'm feeling a bit nostalgic, I'll also have a Monte Cristo." The waiter nodded and walked away with the trey.
At Mae's question to him, John tapped his finger on the table for a moment before answering. "Well it's a bit of a sore subject, but my mom left us when I was 5 years old, just did it one day without a word, she left a note saying that she would be back in less then a year but she never did. Dad's was, for lack of a better word, determined to find her, so he sold the house and took me along with to find her, His job was a architect, he designed buildings for construction workers to use, so he was able to keep his job and search all of the United States for her."
John took a sip of water before continuing, "Now the reason as to why he was so happy then, was that he felt he had finally found her, I remember he told me 'our search was almost over' and decided to take us to one of the more pricier restaurants to celebrate, that was the happiest I've seen him that I can remember."
"How we traveled was that we went from on state to the next, my dad would spend the time in a town and show people he got to know a picture of us in a group photo and see if anyone recognized her." John sighed as he squeezed the lemon slice into the drink. "But in the end the person who he thought was my mom just had her name and similar looks, that someone mistook for her."
John dropped the slice in the water and stared at it as it floated down to the bottom, "After that he started to get his hopes up less often, until now he's just aimlessly drifting from place to place, as if he's on autopilot, dragging me along and putting me in a school while he searches the town we're in for a season, before moving on to the next state."
John grabbed his glass of water and took a sip, placing it down before looking at Mae, blinking for a moment. "...Oh sorry, didn't mean to ramble like that or bring the mood down, this is just the first time this has come up with someone since I came to Japan, and I guess I got a little carried away."

"I'm unable to confirm or deny that at the moment. I'll probably write it down when I learn of it." Mae replied, offering but a simple shrug.
She had some pretty simple responses to give towards John's explanation of his story. Responses that were, admittedly, given upon imbibing an impossibly strong drink. Like, dang, Meicoomon were resistant to things like this but it hit her. "My honest thoughts on this matter are exceedingly simple. I believe your mother is an asshole and your father is the slightest bit naive. It seems like his search left a slightly negative effect upon you." Another sip.
"It's also pretty much impossible to bring the mood down further. From what my visions tell me, my entire lineage is full of assholes. Like, you'd think it'd be just my dad but what little I see of my mom tells me all that I need to know. Quite honestly, I'd be glad if I never met either of them, it kind of repulses me to the fucking core to even catch glimpses of them. ...Honestly, I feel like there's a good takeaway from this. Moms...are assholes. Like dragons. But not as bad as dragons. So, what, are you going to move away again?"

John tapped his chin, "I'm not sure about her being an a-hole, I'm wanting to hear from her why she left in the first place before I decide on that, although I am angry at her putting dad through this. As for my dad, I kinda agree with you on his search being a fool's errand, but I never could bring myself to tell him how I felt, I cold tell he really did love her, from what he talked of her she meant the world to him, so it's possible something happened that's kept her from calling all these years."
He took a sip of water as he finished that sentence. "Your family sounds like they're a crazy bunch, in your situation I agree it's better to avoid them completely, some people need to cut out certain people from their lives, although I'm not sure what you mean by visions."
Taking a sip he almost chocked on his water as she asked if he was moving away. "God I hope not, my dad isn't with me in Japan, he's actually still looking for mom back in the USA. You see my uncle won the lottery and offered to pay for my schooling in Shibuya, he got me a dorm, he's giving me an allowance, even got me this suit and gave me some bits for tonight."
John said this with a smile on his face. "He actually knows about digimon and gave me my digivice the first day I got to Shibuya, although he refused to tell me anything about it or this world, although I gotta say, it made the first day of school very interesting because of it."
John sighed happily as he remembered that day and the times he had after it. "I've not been spending that much time exploring this place as I'd like, most of the time me and Runa have been in my dorm playing games when I'm not at school and she's not running around on rooftops or hiding in bushes and alleyways, heck I haven't even gotten her a holo suit yet, I feel we should have that by now." He said before he took a sip. "But I plan on changing that, she and I are getting out more and just seeing what this world has to offer, we're gonna get stronger too, lot of powerful bad guys out their and we need to be ready for them if they come at us."

"Oh, come on! You said she left with no warning or explanation and just left a letter. That seems like the sort of thing an asshole would do!" Quite honestly, the father had some questionable tastes. Hmph. Mae took another swig of the vodka. "Super easy to avoid my own family, honestly. Just don't go where you have visions of them."
Wait, was his dad seriously still doing that? "Sheesh...Wait, you...got your...That sounds pretty sketchy. I'm no partner or anything but just giving your nephew a digivice the moment you get here's kind of..." Skeezy? Was that the right word? Though, the slightly inebriated cat had to at least give a fair warning to the young man.
Especially since the fox wasn't here to do that herself. Sheesh, had to do her job for her, huh? "Be careful with how you proceed about that. The 'bad guys' are fucking horrifying. The last thing I fought was a nuclear dragon that threatened to scorch a forest into nothing. And it incinerated the actual heck out of a god-empowered Super Mega. So yeah, if you're going to do that? Be ready. Be very ready. Don't be an idiot. And don't bite off more than you can chew."
