There was always some kind of excitement to revel in while getting ready for a date. The anticipation of the unknown! The thrill of the chase! The rush of feeling young again! Sunny stopped in place at the last of these thoughts while she was heading out the door of her apartment. Was she really so old? There was an incredulous scoff at the question before she shook her head with a carefree smile. She wasn’t too old to date, and definitely not too old to try and find love!
It was a little past noon when she got to Cat Street. It had been a good while since she had last walked through this area, but it was easy not to stand out when cosplayers were a common sight here. She herself was dressed in a blue, long sleeved button-up blouse, blue jeans, and black heeled shoes. Her hair had been pulled back into a ponytail minus her bangs, which she kept parted to one side over her face. Sunny figured it was casual enough for a blind date, and wondered not for the first time today just who this Toki Akiyama person was.
A mutual friend had arranged the outing taking it upon themselves to play matchmaker for the two singles. They had been quite enthusiastic about the idea, and after being tempted by a day of innocent fun how could she refuse? Sunny felt it was a far better option over the usual drunken pick up lines she’d get working at a bar, at any rate. So, she walked into Koma Cafe with pleasant expectations. The establishment was still a charming little place. People milled about and relaxed in the cozy environment as she looked from side to side.
She had been told that Toki was a rather tall individual, with a ‘cool-looking scar’ on his lip. At first glance there were a few people nearly a foot taller than herself, but approaching each of them to get a good look at their lips would be unbearably awkward! With a worried hum the woman tilted her head to the side slightly with a nervous smile.
“Hmmm, maybe Toki will have better luck finding me?” she thought out loud as she tried to decide who to approach first. Strangely enough, she did feel the presence of another digital entity nearby. There were a few she had passed by on her way here, but only one other than herself in the cafe right now.

Toki stood near the post board for poetry entries and thought about putting up one his own, though for the moment decided against it. That wasn't why he was here at the cafe today. He was supposed to meet someone. A friend at the college had told him about a woman named Sung-mi Rey, or Sunny. He's faced giant skeletons with laser scythes, a rampaging dragon almost literally made of fire, and he has the ability to transform into various rabbit-like creatures at will. Yet this? Nothing prepared him for this. He had never been on a date before or even really thought about romance in his life. It's not like he wasn't interested, he just never had the chance to really consider it, especially with his prior mindset.
He took a deep breath and looked around. He was pretty tall, even compared to some of the other men in the cafe. His darker skin tone was also pretty easy to spot. He wore his hair in his usual low ponytail and was sure to get his best clothes ready, which weren't anything too fancy. Just a grey t-shirt beneath his black jacket and a pair of blue jeans. He looked around, trying to find someone who matched Sunny's description. He eventually spotted someone who seemed to look around. He approached slowly and gave a friendly little wave "Hello. Are you...Sung-mi? I'm Toki." he said. On the left side of his mouth there was a small scar that ran down his lip. Typically one would associate scars like that with thugs or potentially Yakuza tough guys, but his expression was sincere and friendly. "It's very nice to meet you. I'll admit I'm a little nervous, but let's try to have a good day, alright?" he said. The digital signature only got stronger when Toki approached. And that signature seemed strong. There didn't seem to be anything resembling a stuffed animal or another person next to him, so a holosuit wasn't involved.
Toki wasn't focusing on finding digital signatures, so he wasn't aware that Sunny was similar to him. "Would you like to sit down and get something to drink while we chat?" he asked.

It was just her luck that someone approached her! A particularly tall man with a.. a scar on his lip! She smiled at him and returned his wave as he introduced himself.
"That's me, yup! Nice to meet you too, Toki!" There was a pleasant expression on her face now that she had found her date. The woman was undeterred by his confession of anxiety. She chuckled softly and waved his fears away while shaking her head. "No need to be nervous, we're both here to have fun! You can call me Sunny, even!" At the offer of drinks she nodded.
"Sure! I'd love some tea while we talk. Would you like one as well?" She reached out to grab one of his hands, and took a couple steps towards the serving counter. She paused to jerk the thumb of her other hand towards the cashier. "Tell you what? Drinks are on me if you can tell me the story behind the scar? There's an enigmatic charm to it, and all." Lowering her voice suddenly she leaned back towards Toki with a smile. "And hey, if you're Yakuza or something? Just promise that you won't take any work calls while we're on our date, 'kay?"
Truth be told Sunny didn't feel like Toki was a gangster. Not from the sweet and sincere vibe he was giving off. The idea of dating one was amusing enough, but she'd rather leave that to tv dramas. Lightly, she gave his hand a tug as she started walking towards the counter again.
"So what'll it be, Toki?"

He blushed a bit as he was lightly pulled towards the counter. "Oh, just some green tea will be good for me." he said as he made his order. Already she seemed very pleasant and energetic. Talkative and curious as well. He laughed at the notion of him being Yakuza "Haha, no I'm not Yakuza. Nothing of the sort. My life's definitely full of excitement though. The last year I've been...busy, but I've been enjoying every part of it." he said. He wasn't sure if she knew of the Digital World, so he kept his mouth shut on that for now.
However, her question about the sky made him frown a bit "Ah, this...it reminds me of how I was growing up. My parents run a dojo up in Ishikawa and I grew up learning Karate. For the longest time I only cared about getting better at it and didn't really make a whole lot of friends. During high school, some thug confronted me for being so aloof and arrogant. He pulled a knife at me and slashed my lip. I responded by sending him to the hospital. That...kind of opened my eyes. I could have killed him if I wasn't careful...and...I hated myself for it. It took a long time to forgive myself and I promised to change for the better. So here I am in Shibuya to start a new life and learn how to be a little more outgoing and enjoy life as it comes to me. It's been good for me." he said and ended the little backstory with a smile.
"To be honest I'm surprised you asked about it. Not a lot of people really bring it up, not that I mind you doing so, Sunny." he said. He wondered what kind of tea she would order. "This place is pretty nice. I don't come here often, though maybe I should and try reciting some poetry...I don't really think I have much noteworthy in my scribblings, but who knows?" he said. Nervous as he was, he seemed rather upbeat and optimistic. Very calm, too. "What do you like about this cafe?"

A green tea for Toki, then! True to her word the woman pulled her wallet out from her pocket in preparation for covering the bill as Toki got into his tale. Her expression betrayed her surprise, but she was neither afraid nor judgmental about what he had said.
"Oh my.. It's good to hear that things worked out for you, though. " She paused for a moment to glance at the cashier to put her order in. "I'll have an oolong tea, please!" She paid for their drinks with a thoughtful hum "But, that's pretty cool. You really did give it your all, didn't you? Training to the point where you could seriously hurt someone, and learning the control to prevent the worst case scenario. So, I think you should be proud of that too, y'know?"
While their drinks were being made Sunny took Toki's hand once more and started leading him to an empty table. He talked about poetry, and that made her glance to the wall where people often posted their work. Sunny suspected that he was just being humble about his own writings, but her thoughts were interrupted when he asked what she liked about this place.
"What's not to like?" she answered with an easygoing smile as she looked back to him. She took a seat at an empty table, and gestured for him to join her. "I work at a bar, and while I love it there.. Kuma Cafe is a refreshing change of pace. I don't come here often, but the peace is nice. I can focus on my thoughts here, and the soft murmur of strangers makes me never feel like I'm never alone, even if I'm thinkin' on stuff."
She leaned back in her seat with a chuckle before shrugging her shoulders.
"That made sense to me in my own head, but.. if anything this place makes a good tea, too! And you should totally pin something to the wall. If you work as hard on poetry as you do for martial arts, I bet you'd do really great!"

Toki honestly felt a little guilty that she paid for both of their drinks "I feel a little bad, so let me know if you want me to pay you back, okay?" he said. Soon, Sunny gently guided him to a free table and he found himself really comfortable. His nerves settled a bit and he allowed himself to enjoy the day. He sat across from her and smiled as people around them enjoyed their own conversations. He was honestly a little surprised that she was more supportive and encouraging of his growth as a person. "Proud, huh...? Yeah, I suppose it is something to be proud of, especially with things that happened recently." he coughed a bit "Uh...nevermind, it's nothing." he chuckled nervously. "A bar? Can't say I've ever been to one. I hear it gets pretty rowdy and I try to avoid big groups of people. I'm really glad you enjoy the work there, though. Me? I think I'd prefer working in a place like this. It's a very calming atmosphere for sure, and the people seem really supportive of the creative thoughts of others."When she seemed a bit worried that what she said didn't make much sense, he wanted to reassure her "Oh no, I understand completely. Sometimes the thought that others are close by is enough to bring some peace of mind, if only for a little while. The best inspiration can come from staying in places like this or doing a bit of traveling."At her encouragement to actually post something on the board he looked a little flustered "O-oh, I don't really have too much. I mostly write haikus and such. Maybe I'll try another style at some point, but...hm..." he thought for a moment before he pulled something out of his jacket pocket. A small notebook "I have some written down here if you'd like to read them?" he asked as he offered it. Inside were a few simple haikus that Toki had written up during his adventures. A Moonlit Legend Passes on the old secret To a true balance
-----
Moonlit Grace gave way to light
A grand tale closes
The new moon rises once more
-----
Tales of happiness
And tales of utter sorrow
Bring all together. He ran a hand through his hair nervously "Some of these...well, they're important to me. They may seem strange, fantastical and alien, but I relate to them on some level." once more he didn't want to bring up the Digital World. He didn't know if she even knew about it. Then other thoughts started to bother him. If she didn't know, would he just keep it a secret forever? No, how could he? But how would she react to such a place? He tried his best not to worry about it. "Heh...um...what do you think?" he asked. It wasn't often he shared his work, but in a place like this and given the situation, he figured now would be as good a time as any to do so. He was quite excited to know what she thought.

He was sweet to offer to pay her back for the drinks, but she waved off the idea with a carefree gesture and laid back expression. Even on her humble paycheck two cups of tea were hardly a bother. Even then, money wasn’t the focus of this meeting anyways. They were on a date! In the very least she was glad that he seemed to be relaxing a little more. Toki even eased up enough to hint at having gone through some troubling times recently, but held off on disclosing the details. The slip made Sunny tilt her head to the side a little in question, but she didn’t pursue the topic.
It didn’t surprise her that he liked calmer scenes to frequent, and she patiently listened to him talk. A place like Koma Cafe suited Toki, but that wasn’t a bad thing. They both agreed on how beneficial such a place could be to the mind. When he mentioned traveling she nodded in support of the idea.
“Traveling does refresh the soul, doesn’t it?” she asked rhetorically as she sent a nostalgic glance out to the nearest window in the cafe, thinking about her own adventures in the digital world. Or misadventures, if you asked Aurelia about them. The thought made her realize how strong the digital presence she had felt earlier was. The woman had been trying to ignore it to focus on her date, but... She looked back to Toki as he offered a notebook to her. It was a compilation of his poetry, and admittedly her curiosity was piqued. Sunny carefully took the notebook and opened it.
“Haikus, huh? I’m not as graceful with words, but I love reading them.”
She flipped the book open to a random page, where three haikus were written. She wasn't sure if they were a set, but they all sounded related to each other. The themes resonated with the woman, though. With her, as well as her spirit companion. Surprise appeared on her expression as she reread the poems in search of a meaning between their riddles.
“Definitely reads like something out of a fairy tale, yeah,” she answered softly, but not in a mocking way. Her eyes were still glued to the words on the page as she continued. “It.. it really does hit home, though. Not too long ago, a friend promised she would tale me to the moon one day. Maybe I’ll see you up there, too? That’d be one big leap for Yakuza everywhere!” Sunny looked back up at Toki with a smile as she handed his notebook back to him.
“..but hey, if I really do see you up there.. maybe we could get another drink in Terminus after?”
Deciding to roll the dice, Sunny chanced looking like a fool. Although, she supposed she could just blow everything off as a joke if her hunch was wrong. In any case, she was committed, now!

He smiled softly as she read through his work, glad that she seemed to be enjoying them. It gave him a little more confidence in them and his abilities as a creative writer, which he honestly really needed "It means a lot to hear that, thank you." he said. He leaned back and appreciated the atmosphere. The smell of tea and baked goods filled the cafe. It was comforting and inviting, so he took every chance to relax and take in the environment here.
Then she began to say something that surprised him. A friend that promised to take her to the moon...then one day meeting her up there one day. His first thoughts went to her wanting to be an astronaut, but as she continued talking, everything made sense to him. Especially when she mentioned Terminus. His smile brightened "I think that plan sounds pretty good. This is kind of funny, actually...what are the odds this blind date would lead us to meeting another who's in the know, as it were? I love it there. Truly, I do. I've been through a lot, but I've met so many wonderful friends. That place has changed me for the better." he said with a slight nod. His hand pressed against his chest slightly. The scar still ached, but it wasn't debilitating.
"How long have you known about it? How'd you learn about it? I...hope it was kinder to you than it was to me at first. Though the only reason it wasn't to me was because I'm a little too reckless for my own good and spent my first day helping someone find their...friend, who was lost." he said. "Still, I'd love to hear about what you've seen or who you've met. Maybe we have mutual friends out there."
He chuckled nervously "Sorry, it's just always so exciting to meet someone who's been there and what kinds of journeys they've had...this is honestly a relief for me, since this saves me a lot of explanations. I would have told you about it if you didn't know." he said. He still looked a little guilty about something "I'm lucky a lot of those close to me are familiar. But sometimes I worry for everyone's safety..."
He shook his head "S-sorry I'm rambling on about myself. It's a bad habit. I'd love to go there with you someday, Sunny." he said. Despite him feeling like he stumbles over his words a lot, he kept his optimistic outlook and wanted to make Sunny feel comfortable around him, especially since they both travel the Digital World. The data signature that was with Toki seemed happy for him as well, that he's met such a kindred spirit through chance. He wished Toki the best of luck in the friendship and hoped for a chance to meet Sunny face to face as well someday. "I spend a lot of my time in the forest over there. Especially after what happened there recently. I want to be there for them, you know?"

A quiet breath of relief was released as Sunny leaned back in her chair. She was glad that she had been right about her hunch, and Toki seemed excited at their shared knowledge as well. The man was even a little more energetic and confident now that the digital rabbit was out of the bag. He had a lot to say initially about the digital world, and from the sound of things he had way more experience with it than she did. When he apologized for rambling she shook her head with a chuckle to ease away his apprehensions.
“You’re fine, really. It’s all still new to me so I like hearing what experiences others have had so far. I haven’t had the chance to talk to another person about it yet, though. I mean, I’ve seen other people on the other side, sure, but I’ve mostly been exploring with my digimon as a guide. I can see how dangerous it can get, of course. Even with those bad vibes lurking in the shadows though, it’s really hard to stay away from there, isn’t it?”
Sunny stopped to glance up at a waitress setting their tea down on the table. Two cups, and two pots. She thanked the woman before the waitress left, and then held her hands around her cup to enjoy its warmth. Staring down into the steaming liquid Sunny chuckled again.
“I haven’t had much in the way of bad experiences yet, but my partner is a scrappy little mon so I guess it’s just a matter of time. Gonna have to take it one step at a time though like always!” Glancing back to Toki the woman shrugged with a cheerful smile, her optimism getting the better of her.
“I’m not there to cause anyone trouble, and that seems to have worked for me so far. Has something happened in the forests there, though? I hear a lot of things walking through Terminus, but they don’t all make sense to me yet.”

Toki smiled warmly once the two of them were on the same level about this whole Digital World business. He thanked the waitress once she brought them their drinks. He poured his green tea and similarly enjoyed the warmth of the cup in his hands. He laughed softly when she said that it was difficult to stay away from the Digital World despite the bad things that could happen "It really is hard to stay away. It's...actually one of the reasons I keep coming back. They're special to me and I want to do everything in my power to protect them and help them grow."
She mentioned her Digimon, but he didn't see one with her "Your Digimon...are they not here right now? Or...are you like me in that regard to? My Digimon's a spirit of one from a long time ago. I've been helping him reconstruct his memories with every totem I find. He's amazing, I'll have to introduce you when we have the chance. I'd love to meet yours too."
He took a sip of his tea and sighed happily "It's good it's been a positive experience for you so far. We should cherish the good times. One step at a time...definitely the right way to go about it." he said. His smile fell a bit when she asked about the forest "The forest...well...it's a long story. Something attacked and was trying to destroy something really important along with enslaving a lot of the Digimon there. I helped escort a lot of the survivors to safety and got...hurt in the process. They were all safe, though." he touched his chest slightly. "Then, without considering my own well being I ran back into the forest and joined others in repelling a huge threat called Megidramon. We won but...not without loss. But it also provided a new start for the forest." he said. It would seem a bit much to go into detail about the Sovereign and such right now, especially in a place like this. They might be relatively along at this table, but it was still a lot of stuff to talk about.
"There's danger, no doubt...but so much beauty. So many wonderful people to meet. I'm glad you get to experience that too. I want to help our worlds co-exist. I think that's my calling." he said. He seemed confident. An ambassador sort of job...he felt it was what he had to do.

Toki heard his phone go off and reached into pocket to check the messages. "Ah, no...something just came up, Sunny so I have to get going in a few minutes. I'm sorry..." he said as he took his time to finish his tea. "This has been great though. I've enjoyed our talk and our mutual...interests." he said with a laugh. "Yeah that...fight took a lot out of me and other people, so things have been super busy for me and my friends while we try to make sense of everything." he sent a couple of texts back as he spoke.
He smiled warmly "Don't worry, I'm fine, though. I've been through a lot but I'm not going to let that keep me down for long. If I gave up...that'd be one less person out there doing good things for people, and I can't let that happen, you know?" he said. The tea was relaxing, so he was calm. Things have been stressful, so the chance to spend time with someone and just have a casual conversation was really refreshing after so much combat and pain.
After his tea he stood up and stretched "Well, I should probably get going, Sunny...I had a great time and I hope you did too. It was nice to share stories of the adventures we've had so far and what you've wanted to do." he said. "Oh and...no matter what you do, or how difficult it might be to reach your goals, just do the very best you can and one day you'll get there. We've both got long lives ahead of us, so we just have to go out there and take chances. I really hope you get that chance to go to the moon one day." he said to encourage her.
He took out a piece of paper and wrote down his number "If you ever need anything, feel free to give me a call, okay? I'll do everything I can to help out." he handed her the paper and turned around "I'll catch you later, okay? I'd love to talk again soon." he said. He stepped out of the cafe and paused for a moment to look back. Sunny. He'd have to thank his friend for introducing them. It was an experience he'll treasure as he goes forward in life. With that, he began his trip to the terminal. There was more adventure to be had.
